WASHINGTON: “Senators voted 28-21 to approve a bill to legalize gay marriage in the state. Four Republicans crossed party lines and voted with majority Democrats for the measure. Three Democrats voted against it,” msnbc.com writes. “The measure now moves to the House, where there is enough support for the bill to pass. Gov. Chris Gregoire says she will sign the bill if it makes it to her desk, Seattle TV station King 5 reported. Legislators debated the measure for two hours Wednesday night at the capitol in Olympia before voting.”
The Seattle Post-Intelligencer: “The Washington state Senate, in an historic action, voted 28 to 21 on Wednesday night to legalize marriage between same-sex partners.”
The Seattle Times front page: “Historic vote clears way for same-sex marriage.”

Yep, people are starting to wake up to the idea that equal rights means exactly that.
Actually, the people of Washington has voted this down twice now, this is an attempt by a lame duck governor, who suddenly "Seen the Light" to pass this through the legislature before the next election.
The Opposition has the votes to throw it out of the legislature and make it a referendum to the people which looks like it will go down to defeat again.
The Front runner in the governors race is a moderate republican this year and it is beginning to look like the citizens will break the democrats hold on the states legislature for the first time in 36 some odd years.
It makes a good news story but it is not the reality here in Washington State.
The argument really centers around calling it "marraige" Homosexual couples already have civil unions with all the legal rights so encumbered, so it is really a battle over the word marraige here and nothing more.
Good for Washington.
But it's time to get this done nationally. Repeal the Defense of Marriage Act.
I am excited that my state is finally waking up to do the right thing! I agree biweeler--needs to be done nationally!
"We have met the enemy and he is us!" Pogo by Walt Kelly
I have been married for nearly 55 years. My marriage has never been threaten by gay people. Why would it, I feel more threaten by CROOKED POLITICIANS! I'm very glad my state voted this way.
Republicans do not want to regulate corporate mergers (or marriages, since corporations are people), just private, personal mergers. "Get big government out of the boardroom and into the bedroom." The SEC may be renamed, Sex and Eroticism Control and the FED, Find Evil Doers.
Gay Marriage is a ploy by the republican/tea bag party to distract the country from the real issues thats at hand. If we as a country stay distracted minor issues like this nothing will get done. Let alone who know what gets by that we don't know about, because these issues take the spotlight from the others. Planned Parenthood & NPR are other issued to distract us from real issues. Another ploy to distract us as a country was a day spent on the "national motto". Just another distraction from what really wrong here in America.
