Jon Huntsman's father Jon M. Huntsman Sr. gave Our Destiny PAC, the Super PAC supporting his son's candidacy, a total of about $1.9 million of $2.7 million contributed to the PAC since October, according to a new FEC report.
That accounts for 70 percent of all the money the Super PAC received.
Jon M. Huntsman contributed $1,887,039.90 of the entire $2,680,289.90 that the PAC received. His final donation came 13 days before the New Hampshire primary, ahead of the last minute ad buys made on New Hampshire's WMUR.

Obama's sugar daddy is billionaire currency speculator and socialist George Soros...you wont hear much about him from the Obama reelection team at MSNBC.
Each Koch brother is worth more than Soros and combined they are worth almost 3 times what Soros is worth so what is your point?
It seems to me that all the candidates have a sugar daddy or 2. Do you expect any of them to discuss who they are and what they expect in return?
That accounts for 70 percent of all the money the Super PAC received.
Not really that much money......Obama has around a billion ready to start spending....
Would you be so kind as to give us the source of this revelation?
I believe the name you are looking for today is Priorities USA Action...they must also report to the FEC today.
quit complaining about the spending the campaings are pumping into the elections . The "interesting" part is the economy is being stimulated.
An improving economy does not help the GOP!!!!!!!!!
IF THE GOP WANTS TO WIN THIS ELECTION, THEY'D BETTER QUIT ARGUING AMONGST THEMSELVES AND START CREATING AND PROMOTING U.S. ECONOMIC "FAILURE" AGAIN....AND SOON!!
Sugar Daddy is meaningless in an election with Romney. Romney's wealth is greater than all presidents combined going back to Nixon...times 2!
What's really, really sad is to think that all the millions and millions could be divided up and given to every person over the age of 50 with the requirement to retire and buy a home if they don't already own one. This would open up jobs to younger workers, inject the economy starting with the housing industry, and alleviate government resources for unemployment and other safety nets currently under strain.
So all you 1%ers out there, how about holding a convention like you did in Aspen, only this time pledge to make a real difference and use your vast wealth to do good. THEN I would vote for you, Romney or Huntsman or any of the rest of the 1% candidates. Otherwise, what a waste, what a friggin' shameful waste!
Talk about Daddy Warbucks!
Although compared to Willard the Wealthy, that is considered pocket change!
What have you done today to earn your $57K?
I'm so shocked that Huntsman's dad contributed to his Super PAC. Seriously, what else would we expect?
check our US debt clock for Illinois. wow! 1.8 million food stamp receipients, not to mention the debt they are racking up. Interesting numbers. they need a community organizer to get their crap together.
Buck,
1.8 million food on food stamps while Willard "Mitt" Romney puts his money in Swiss bank accounts and Bahamanian tax avoidance investments. What a true patriot!!! Mitt didn't even want to pay for Seal Team Six.....I guess he figured the rest of us worker bees could pick up the tab for him....Wait until we all find out that the thousands of jobs he "created" at Sports Authority and Staples don't even pay enough to get people above the poverty line. That's why they need food stamps....
Maybe the GOP should rename itself the "Thanks Daddy Party"
Just change the GOP acronym to "Grandpa's Open Pockets"......
At least the money came from his family - not some big corporations.
"In the 1960s Huntsman Sr. partnered with Dow Chemical (DOW, Fortune 500) to produce Styrofoam egg containers. Dow lost interest in the business plan, but Huntsman saw a big future in packaging for an emerging fast-food industry. Burger King and McDonald's were their biggest customers...."
http://money.cnn.com/2010/06/16/news/companies/huntsman_family_dynasty_full.fortune/index.htm
No wonder GOP candidates are wanting to eliminate government regulation of industry....
The "Our Destiny" PAC may not have a candidate, but they can still try to stop government regulation of the Huntsman family's polystyrene business. Our Destiny indeed.....
MkeMike, A million thanks for that information! Another good reason to buy eggs in cardboard containers and other foods in recyclable containers. And didn't the House go back to the use of Styrofoam in their lunchrooms? Why? And who removed the solar panels from the White House? Nothing progressive from the GOP of know nots, ever.
Phinephancy, I agree at least we know where the money came from.
Man now that's some cash!
Looks like he got his allowance cut off after New Hampshire.
Turns out if Huntsman's dad had Willard Romney as his financial advisor he chould have invested his money in Swiss bank accounts and Bahamanian investment companies like Romney did.
Tax avoidance when your country is fighting two unfunded Bush wars and dealing with an economic downturn caused by the lack of GOP regulation is very patriotic....
Romney's wealth is twice as much as 8 previous presidents wealth. Wouldn't you just know it Romney is pushing for tax cuts for himself as if he doesn't have enough money already. Not only that Romney wants to increase your taxes to pay for more tax cuts for himself.
Meanwhile Romney has signed on the Ryan plan which kills medicare with his voucher plan. Then he goes to Florida and promises to protect medicare and social security. Well he also promised to protect a woman's right to choose and you know he now is pushing to overturn Roe v Wade and wants to push Catholic doctrine of no birth control on the entire nation.
You really think he will keep his word to the seniors any more than he kept his word to women?
Be sure and vote for Gingrich to annoy us liberals.
The common thread for the GNOP - they all lie!
Just think what $2M would have done for GOOD.
Small compared to the $17M+ Romney's spent in FL for all negative ads!!! Disgusting!
Why is this even a story on FR, since Huntsman is no longer running. It has always been well known that the Huntsman family had around a billion dollars and the father was willing to finance his son's campaign. Jon knew he wasn't going to get the nomination and declined his fathers money.
I could have supported Huntsman and considered him more electable than Romney.
sfcret,
This story indicates the power that the wealthy, and the corporations that they run, have in the political process, and the fact that they have the resources to dismantle government regulations on themselves and their companies to the point where they put the rest of us in danger. SEE MY POST ABOVE.
The fact that Jon Huntsman is no longer in the contest, does not preclude his family business from investing their profits in purchasing another candidate that will protect their interests. Their interests include manufacturing dangerous chemicals and leaching them into our food supply....get it?
MikeMike, Quit seeing conspiracies behind everybody with money. I am sure that there are plenty of millionaires into the democratic campaign chest also. Obama's campaign says they need to raise a BILLION dollars to win reelection. Get a life and think for yourself. Anyone who buys the garbage in most of the advertisements with out checking them out shouldn't be allowed to vote.
MkeMike,
I don't happen to have a problem with you comments in your post. Tax avoidance is a condition of the tax laws that Congress writes for those who probably contribute to their re-election funds. If the leadership wants to even the playing field for everyone, why not have a simple tax rate for everyone - to include who currently pay no taxes?
As for commenting on the wage earners, why are you so envious of those who takes risks and earn income? Shouldn't we all strive to be in that 1% category?
And when you are critical of millionaires, are you critical of just those Republican millionaires, or is it OK for those Democratic millionaires to support the current Progressive Runp-Ranger in charge?
PAC this PAC that. YOU add up all THEIR Monies and YOU are still voting IN for these DEVILS in red suits to PROTECT ONLY THEIR INTEREST and Their MONIES So they can BRAINWASH you again like sucker voters in herds are on the next CAMPAIGN TO THE TOP.
BUT YOU on the other hand will get nothing, Guaranteed !!!
I can think of many much better things to do with all that money than to waste it on a campaign that had no chance of success from the beginning. There are children going without meals in this country, the richest in the world, there are senior citizens who must do without medication because they simply can't afford it. There are people who once were living the American Dream of home ownership, a good job, a couple of cars, quality food on the table etc. who are now receiving food stamps living in a dingy appartment and using one old beat up car to get around because they lost their jobs a few years ago. The way those rich guys are throwing their money around it reminds me of a feudal king who comes into a village throwing coins to the peasants and gets great joy in watching them scramble to pick up as many as they can.
baldeagle11,
You heard the GOP response to that in the first debate....."let them die"...........these people are worse than feudal kings. At least feudal kings kept the money in their own castle. These GOP guys send it to Swiss banks and Bahamanian tax avoidance investments....
Boring article.....folks give big bucks to politicians and later come to collect favors for their big bucks. So what else is new - been going on since the beginning of time.
How about an MSNBC story on the proposed ideas the Republicans have developed during this campaign? All we seem to hear about is the negative stuff between Mitt and Newt. There are interesting items being talked about that never appears reported.
Can't wait to see which Republican is nominated and the basting he will provide to the Presidential Rump-Ranger.
winemaker,
Yes, I would like to see a complete expose' of the money that GOP candidates invested in Swiss bank accounts and Bahamanian tax avoidance investments while the US was fighting two unfunded Bush wars and experiencing the worst economic downturn since the great Depression due to the fact that the GOP weakened regulation on the banking and investment banking industries. I'd like to hear why they think tax avoidance is patriotic? And why they think that only us middle class worker bees need to pay for Seal Team Six and roads and sewers and bridges and even elections.....
Yep MkeMike,
I actually have no issue with a story on how ALL candidates, to include Obama, channel their personal funds. And I would also love to see MSNBC do an expose' on the Obama background. It's impossible to see any information on him prior to Chicago since he has spent millions to seal any background records.
Why shouldn't anyone take advantage of the tax laws written by members of Congress? Perhaps you should look into various proposals written by various members that would tax ALL citizens, not just those who earn wages. With a reorganization of the tax laws, fairness can be found, which should make liberals happy since fairness is a part of Progressive thoughts. Take taxes from all classes of individuals not just those who earn top dollar for the risk they take.
Now who paid the greater dollar in taxes, Buffett at his tax rate, or his secretary at her 35% ratge?
Tell me MkeMike, why is it the role of government to be big and take the country out of the depression we are in?Is big gov. better than one who is fiscal?
winemaker,
While Romney SAYS that he wants to help America and Americans, he DOES what any unpatriotic, greedy, immorally wealthy GOP candidate would do....he sends his money to Swiss bank accounts and Bahama tax avoidance investments. He does this why we are fighting two wars, started by a Republican President, for which funding was never approved by US taxpayers. He also sends his investments overseas, while we are in the midst of the worst financial and banking meltdown in world history, caused by a Republican party that refused to regulate the banking and investment industry.
US government expenditures represent less than 1/5 of our total GDP. We pay less taxes than most countries in the civilized world. Our government is not that big. While it isn't necessary for our government to take us out of the depression, it is useful that they supply a safety net for average Americans, and use what tools they do have to prime the pump and get things rolling again.
Wealthy people should pay more in taxes and a higher tax rate, than poorer people. We used to have a progressive tax system, which means that each additional dollar earned is taxed at a higher rate than the previous dollar. This encouraged people to earn more to have more, and work harder because marignally, each additional dollar was worth a tiny bit less. Since Reagan, that is not the case. Warren Buffet pays a lower rate than his secretary, who still probably makes about $100,000 per year. If you wish to return to the days where the wealthy make the rules and pay only what they wish, then vote GOP and let them continue to drain the US Treasury and siphon the extra money they get to keep to banks in Switzerland, Dubai, and the Bahamas. If you want a fair progressive tax system, then don't vote GOP.
