Matt Strawn is expected to step down as Chairman of the Republican Party of Iowa soon, sources tell NBC News.
The exact timing and reason for the anticipated resignation is unknown.
Questions were raised about Strawn's continuation as Chairman of the GOP after the final Iowa Caucus votes came in earlier this month.
Mitt Romney was declared the winner of the caucus by 8 votes during the wee hours of the morning on caucus night. After the certified results came in nearly two weeks later, Rick Santorum pulled ahead of Romney by 34 votes.
The switch of winners was not the full extent of the discrepancy -- there were also 8 final precinct numbers missing.
The Party originally sent out a press release on Jan. 19th congratulating both Romney and Santorum without necessarily declaring a winner. Later that day, however, Strawn went on an Iowa radio station and began to change his tone on the subject and leaned towards saying Santorum was the winner.
Because of the confusion, the Iowa GOP was forced to send a press release on Jan. 20th stating: "In order to clarify conflicting reports and to affirm the results released January 18 by the Republican Party of Iowa, Chairman Matthew Strawn and the State Central Committee declared Senator Rick Santorum the winner of the 2012 Iowa Caucus."
One Iowa State Central Committee (SCC) member who had not heard about the possible resignation of Strawn told NBC News, "I certainly hope it isn't true. He's the best chairman we've had in Iowa as long as I've been active in politics."
The SCC holds their quarterly meeting next month.

The Tea Repubs are best at telling lies. They would lie about their mother if it benefited them politically.
We've never trusted Republicans with election results. This was just a case in point, and it was a Republican election only.
I'll be so happy and bet Obama will not get a single vote today...I hope the trend continues...
big if you would get your head out of your azz..you could think clearly
those who would vote for obama are the ones that need to get their heads out of their asses and/or sand. Enough with the warmongering Presidents already, let's be done with it and bring the troops home! We can't afford another President who just wants to spend, spend, spend until theres nothing left for America!
Only one candidate worth voting for in 2012- Ron Paul!!!
That's right Prohibition doesn't work ! Ron Paul 2012 ! ......on a 3rd party ticket ! .....because he has a better chance at the democrat nomination than the GOPeaParty nomination !
BTW----President Obama is trying to reduce the size of our military.....the GOPeaParty is trying to prevent this.
big, please tell me you're kidding.
GOP, Stands for Grand Old Pigs !
Obama's pork size rising debt will give us all massive financial cholesterol......
Ever wonder who those "low information voters" are? Well, I think we've found one, somewhere in Alaska. This one actually thinks that a President can spend money without Congressional appropriations, or that he can refuse to spend money that Congress has appropriated. Back to civics class....
GOP stands for Grand Oil Party
If he is the "best" chairman, then what was the worst like?
Probably the most important caucus he would ever oversee, and he screws the pooch. Probably at the behest of his superiors, and then he voluntarily takes the fall.
Now that is what I call taking one for the TEAM!, it really sucks being an establishment republican and doing what the bosses want these days....
Kind of makes you wonder, if they had gotten it right from the start and announced Santorum as the winner, would that have caused Huntsman to win New Hampshire. The narrative going into New Hampshire would have been a lot different if Romney hadn't won Iowa. I think people would have started giving Huntsman a second look a lot sooner then they did. Huntsman had a surge, but it was too little, too late.
Either one Dr Paul or Santorum winning Iowa would have given both Paul and Huntsman a serious boost in New Hampshire. Mitts would have been playing catchup and his win if he did win would have been much smaller.
Newt's one giant leap for mankind is putting the Tea ReTards on the moon.
The Teabaggers are on their last leg.
And so are all those food stamp recipients , unemployed and underemployed under Obama..
Bush still has the record for the most food stamp recipients.
Dont confuse people like big bendover in alaska with the facts...hey, isn't alaska the most welfared up state in the country? Don;t they lead in food stamps, medicaid, federal welfare, subsidized air and ship fare, a payoff each year from the state...where does the welfare end? When?
@rick, don't know if they actually lead, but they're up there -- and you can see why --- just read bigbenalaska's posts.
.
ooops
"Go New England Patriots"....oooops
big, that's the only intelligent thing you've posted on this board, today.
Mr. Strawn has better uses for the GOPERS. He has done so well as the chairman, I assume he will be promoted into the responsible position of handling the vote count in the 2012 elections.
The GOP will not leave any stone unturned, unless one of them is hiding under it.
I really hope they don't see the need to add the phrase "The Food Stamp President" in our children's text books..
It would apply to George W. Bush. Fine by me.
thats ok big...if we want to look at a rich clown..we do that also huh
And don't forget the facts that people could register AT THE CAUCUS SITE and did not need a PHOTO ID! An obvious case of massive voter fraud!
After reading and hearing about how frantic Iowa was about Ron Paul possibly winning the state I could care less if Iowa is suspended from presidential voting privledges period.
my mom always said be afraid of the boggie man..he always gets what he wants..but i guess the other boggie man found out.what the other was doing.
please don't step down...you have not reach sins capacity ..to be unforgiven..this was a small sin to the republicans.. lies means truth remember
My mother always said to always tell the truth because lies are harder to remember. The GOP has been changing their positions and flat out lying so much for so many years that they are imploding all across the nation. Just look at the top of the ticket. This is a party that has acted with extreme rightous indignation at any human failing by a Democrat, immediately calling for resignations. Now the top of their ticket is a guy who has had 3 wives, cheated on all, was censured by and forced to resign in disgrace from the U.S.Congress and from the Speaker's position at that. The Entire Bush presidency was built on lies by a draft dodger. They've got Republican Congressmen picking up men in airport bathrooms, favors sold, and the list just goes on. This party needs a wake up call and I believe it's coming in the next election.
Vote Republican - They create jobs (overseas) and Prosperity (for the 1%)
It's interesting that the 8 lost precints were areas noted to be won by Ron Paul. It is even more interesting to note that days before the caucus, the GOP were saying that they would not allow Paul to win......Hmmmmmm? Can we say "fraud?" I haven't crunched the numbers but I'm willing to bet that Dr. Paul could actually have won Iowa. Interesting that we don't see those healines. Imagine what other truths Main stream media is keeping from the masses.
If you are content with how things are going in this country, then you are likely part of the 1.6%. If you are not content, then you need to vote for change. It's not Mitt Romney, It's not Gingrich, and its surely not Obama. Ignore Ron Paul at your own peril, it is you and I who will have to survive the next 4 years of consequences!
There were only slightly more than 120k total votes cast in Iowa. Anyone who is unable to get such a small count correct deserves to be replaced.
or investigated for voter fraud, doc.
IOWA, REPUBLICANS AND PIG MANURE
When Democrat-backed JoAnne Kloppenburg emerged from Wisconsin's Supreme Court election with a small lead last year, conservatives were quick to claim the election was within the "margin of fraud" and cite baseless allegations. The same thing happened when close elections favored Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) in 2008 and Washington Gov. Christine Gregoire (D). And then there's their endless allegations that Democrats or ACORN were about to steal an election.
Somewhere Strawn was quoted as saying " The real number of votes is irrelevant because this is just a caucus vote,
and beside that the Iowa GOP isn't interest in exact numbers....."
More disingenuoscity & self victimization by those whose trademark IS those 2 commodities !
WELL DONE GOP....and burnt crisp like TOAST...
He's the best Iowa can come up? This is typical of the GOP vote count abilities - if it doesn't match what you want, just keep counting until it does. Those evangelicals don't care what's right as long as they are not wrong.
some thin deff not right in Iowa vote, from what i saw on the street Paul was outnumbering others 10 to 1 his signs were everrywhere,he had a soilid ground base that worked over Iowa for months. romney and newt bearly even campain there and sanc was there for about a month. Paul should have won that by a landslide, but they couldn't have that. there facts that votes where counted incorrectly and that voteing machines had no record of being zeroed out before counting, and that many others had broken seals on them. and officeals saying that these dont really count that there only caucuses? these are really where you get to pick your next pesident. are we going to just let the party laeders pick there own candidat,? or are we going to get a chance to vote for them? are we going to let super pacs and there brain dead pick our leaders? this crap has got to stop cuz we just keep geting two sides of the same coin at election time. wake tfu. early exit polling showed ron paul leading early on then the lights went out in a few precints and suddenly romney pulling ahead? and the media totally disgracefully puting paul down and leaving him out at any and all times. i want to spit in their faces if i ever run into them on the street. go ahead google voter fraud in SC and in Iowa you'll see
