In a warning sign for Mitt Romney that the long GOP primary fight may be hurting his image with the general electorate, the latest NBC/Wall Street Journal poll finds that independent voters have sharply soured on the Republican frontrunner in the last month.
In fact, Romney’s negative ratings with independents have jumped 13 points since December.
Last month, Romney’s favorable/unfavorable split with independents was 21 percent to 29 percent. In November, 22 percent of indies viewed him in a negative light compared to 21 percent who gave him a thumbs up in the NBC/WSJ poll.
But in the latest poll, released last week, Romney’s positive score was essentially unchanged at 22%. His negative score, however, jumped to 42 percent with independents, his highest recorded negative rating in the poll with the crucial voting bloc.
The cause could be the race's recent tough rhetoric and widely-viewed debates since the early voting contests began in Iowa and New Hampshire at the beginning of this year. The GOP race has come into sharper focus for a wider electorate, curious about the candidates – and wondering who will emerge to face President Barack Obama in an election year in which the country’s economic situation is uncertain.
Since the last poll was conducted, Romney won, then lost Iowa narrowly; he won decidedly in New Hampshire then lost decisively in South Carolina; and there have been eight nationally televised debates, including two in the run up to this contentious GOP primary fight in Florida.
Romney seems on track to win by a solid margin in Florida tomorrow, but as Marist polling Director Lee Miringoff said, "If Romney locks up the nomination any time soon, he's going to have to pivot quickly to win back independents."

No one wants Malibu Mitt either ! His whole act is a total scam! He is attempting to buy the presidency of the USA .
He is attempting to buy the presidency of the USA
So that he can load it up with debt, send its jobs overseas and cash in on the "savings" and assorted management fees? Oh, come on now, that is just conjecture. You don't have any evidence, other than Romney's career in business, to base that on!
TO: nisl who wrote:
You got that right nisl, and that's exactly what the "Jobs Cremator" is supposed to be judged on, his past record! Romney has a record of liquidating businesses and shipping American Jobs Overseas, that is how he made his millions, and THAT is exactly what Mitt will continue to do!
Just like Republicans still can't put together that their 2 OIL MEN, Bush and Cheney, overthrew the Government of the 2nd Largest OIL Producting Nation in the world, BECAUSE they were/are OIL MEN and kept with their past history of drilling oil, which is exactly what they did in Iraq. There were NO Weapons of Mass Destruction, just OIL.
Obama / Biden 2012
Let's get real here. Gingrich's past as an immoral, aldulterer, and failed politician of the past is very relevant to a future potential president...not that it will matter to die hard Republicans anyway. Anyone that thinks we should be investing in a moon base in today's economic slump should have his head examined. I would love to see Obama debate this overconfident has been, but it's not going to happen because Romney will beat him. Regardless, the Republicans don't have anyone without major flaws to attack so Obama will get another 4 years of the party of "No". It's a lose/lose scenario.
Income inequality will be at the center of the next election. Romney the corporate raider has no credibility on job creation. Romney the poster child for the richest 1% that paid an effective tax rate of only 13.9% has no credibility on fair taxation. Romney the "corporations are people" advocate has no credibility on rulings like Citizen's United, regulation of Wall Street, and putting an end to corporate welfare.
The Do Nothing obstructionist GOPers think they can use the poor economy to win in 2012, but most voters know the poor economy is because of the failed policies of the Republican Party. Add to that the crazy-arse overreach at the state level (and Birthers trying to keep President Obama off the ballot in Georgia, again -- really?!), and pitiful presidential candidates, good luck with that Teapublican douche-bags.
We need to reelect President Obama and give him a congress that will work with him. Obama/Biden - 2012 -- Amen!
Anyone that thinks we should be investing in a moon base...
...or war-mongering, or destroying programs for seniors, and giving the rich and corporations more tax breaks instead of reinvesting in infrastructure, education, and technology should have his/her head examined.
"Restore Our Future," haha (snort) hahaha. That's an even more outrageous claim than "Country First" last time around. Whoohoo, Newt just announced he will go all the way to the convention as the "Reaganite" versus the "Massachusetts Liberal." OMG!
This is the critical sector of the electorate that will reelect President Obama. Mitt offers nothing but sacrifice and hardship for the middle class and the poor, and fabulous tax breaks for the wealthy.
Romney needs to be interrogated about his religion and polygamy, his ancestors going to Mexico to evade the laws of the land (returning only because of Poncho Villa, not love for the US), women's rights, racism against blacks clear until 1978 (1978!), etc., and ALL this is only about religion.
Not just the unethical and often ruthless profiting by Bain, which included sticking the taxpayers for pension plans, but also Bain lobbying to keep a 15% tax rate on capital gains -- All of which Romney still profits from handsomely.
Remember how Ross Perot looked good on the surface? Then we realized what a wacky nut the guy was? This applies to Romney and Gingrich (and even more than Ron Paul despite what the GOP establishment would have folks believe). I just want to know why "nuts" including Herman Cain, Donald Trump, and the rest of the clown show end up with so much power and money, while sane people with real merit have had their lives destroyed by the likes of these charlatans.
Save our nation from the hands of the GOP/TP and throw all of the Teapublicans out--and all the incompetent CEOs while we're at it. May the American workforce regain it's proper place in this country, the American workforce that is the real engine of our economy and prosperity.
Ro-money is just the plastic "vampire capitalist" candudate. All but the right wing-nuts can see through him as nothing more than a corporate shill. He is the 1%'s candudate and they are welcome to him. Obama "Four more Years" 2012!
My postal vote will be for Obama or Romney. I'm happy with whoever the Bildebergers and Bernanke want. Being originally from Florida, I know its affluence and I know the money is going with Romney. There is no choice.
It's going to be better in his second term, jerry. He won't need to worry about re-election then, and he's older and wiser regarding his impossible ideal of bi-partisanship in Congress. Add to it that the American public has had their eyes opened by the Republican's circus-like nomination process, and it's going to be a better situation the second time around.
In his second term, Mr. Obama will be able to carry out his initiatives. After his State of the Union Address, a CBS poll found that 91% of Americans agree with his ideas for the country.
The haters won't go away, but people who are truly open-minded, people who truly want what is best for this country and for our future, will exist in large enough numbers for us to make some real progress in Mr. Obama's second term.
TruePatriot, I disagree with this part of your comment. I don't believe Romney should be held accountable for the tenets of his religion or for what his ancestors did. He was born a Mormon. Most people are born and raised into a religion over which they have no say.
I do think we need to evaluate a candidate for how his/her religion might influence policy. Separation of Church and State must remain inviolable in this country.
With this, I totally agree. When Congress tried to reform the tax law, Bain's lobbyists were leading the fight to keep the 15% tax rate in place for people like Romney.
We Americans need to be more educated, more open-minded, and more involved in the political process. Otherwise, we let this happen to ourselves.
Fortunately, the middle class worker has a champion in our President. Re-elect Obama/Biden in November!
The fact that one of these candidates could actually become president, despite peoples obvious lack of trust in these candidates, goes to show you how money can get you whatever you want in this country.
The problem with democrats (the ones in office, not the morally sound good person that is voting democrat), is that even with government regulation to prevent personal greed from impacting U.S. citizens, most government officials are bad greedy people anyway. Government is corrupted.
Republicans however, would leave our fate to the greedy rich few, that have already infiltrated our government anyway. Not saying all republicans are bad people, but this is what they want, and it's insane.
Hate to kill the optimism, but arent we screwed either way lol.
How is that different from obama and his billion to buy the presidency?
sonmanvb - Fire to fight fire, thus self defense. The Corpwhoret SOTUS (five corrupted justices) have said let the money speak. Negative ads for the rest of the campaign. Won't that just be so entertaining!
I think we should keep obama so we can keep our jobs czar jeff imelt from GE. ...... wait a minute, he shipped out ?????? jobs. My God, msnbc attracts a hateful audience.
HAHAHA!
Poor Willard the Wealthy, always the bridesmaid, never the bride!
You would never know Romney was losing independent support from all the
conservativeer, I mean independent posters here (oops, I forgot it was impolite to out conservative posters posing as independents).Willard doesn't even know how much money he has. He says some where between 150 million and 200 plus million.
HaHa Job1, the actual amount is supposedly around 250m, but hey, being off by 50-100m is no big deal. It is probably some loose account sucking down Mai Tais in Tahiti. You know how hard it is to keep track of those darn
kidsdollars.RedDev - who can't get by on $57K per day?
Right?
It must be painful when cleaning day arrives and he has to part with $5 for the maid to clean the 30,000 square foot mansion, or pays the gardener $10 to mow those 2 acres of grass. Darn, if he weren't running for president, he could hire those illegals even cheaper.
Romney wants to be POTUS so bad...because he has everything else. Gingrich wants to run for POTUS to profit even more from speaking fees and book sales. Neither charlatan is running for sincere reasons and neither deserve to hold the highest office in the land, not remotely. Away with you both, be gone!
TrueP,
If sincerity is a campaign issue, Dr Paul beats them all, same with integrity, and honesty.
Do you mean it's not Romney's turn, Feisty?
Whatever will Mittens do? Maybe he can console himself by rolling around in his cash like Scrooge McDuck.
Independents are too smart to vote for Obomney. Had enough of that kind of change thank you. I want someone who is actually different from the clown we currently have in office.
If Mitt says Obama's health care sucks Obama will say I fashioned it after yours, Mitt was for Obamas bailouts and TARP and said he supported Obama's decision to strip American citizens of their most basic constitutional rights you can now be thrown in jail indefinatley without charges filed against you, without a phone call and no lawyer all this is in the NDAA Obama passed making us the biggest hypocrites in the world since we have demonized other countries for decades for doing the same things to their citizens. Not to mention he signed the patriot act twice after he said he would get rid of it in his campaign promises. They are both for big/expanding government too, So why are you Obama lovers so down on Mitt when his plan is to continue Obama's agenda, which is just a continuation of the Bush agenda?
The problem for Obama is that the middle class can't exist without investment from the 1% to create jobs. Government can't create a middle class, only private industry can. Look at the USSR, there was no middle class there, look at China prior to them allowing one percenters to invest in their country and create jobs, look at Europe where the policies that Obama wants to duplicate have virutally destroyed the middle class and are in the process of creating universal poverty the same way that central govermnent control did it to the USSR and to pre-capitalist China.
Bureaucrats can't even manage the post office, yet Obama is trying to tell you they can manage healthcare, the auto industry, and tell you what type of light bulbs to buy. It is ridiculous. There is no way this country or the middle class in this country will survive another 4 years of Obama and his socialist policy. He thinks he can do the same thing that has been done in Greece, Italy and Spain, but somehow when he does it it will have different results. Doing the same thing and expecting different results is not the definition of intelligent behavior, it is the definition of insanity. What amazes me is that so many of you will buy the lie that the government can solve your problems, hopefully there aren't enough people who aren't capable of seeing what is happening to Europe to elect Obama again. ANYBODY but Obama in 2012.
Romney is a good man and no amount of Religious bigotry (which is the same thing as racism-it comes from the same place in the mind and the heart) can change that. The fact that he was extremely successful and he is willing to use his experience to help fix this broken country is a good thing. Sorry but experience as a politician and community organizing is not what this country needs.
If you want to compare religion, then lets look at the Reverend Wright and the hate that he teaches and compare it to what Romney has been taught by his religion. Lets shine the spotlight on Obama and his religious upbringing just as brightly as you want to shine it on Romney. I will take a Mormon who believes the consitution was an ispired document over an Obama that teaches America is a country which should be hated anyday.
The guy is about as likable as acne, that is his real problem.
I can say with 100% certainty that independents were always going to dislike Romney. You know how I know that? Because EVERYBODY dislikes Romney.
Bet those independents also don't like the idea Romney pays a lower tax rate than ordinary working folks. People don't care how many millions Romney has or how much he makes but they do care that the system is rigged.
... familiarity breeds contempt
Not only that the system is rigged, Jody, but that Mittens rails against the "European socialist welfare state'
.......but finds that same economy/banking system great, when it comes to hiding his millions in various accounts.
...they do care that the system is rigged
The system has been rigged for a long time. I ran across something today I thought you might find interesting. From Wikipedia:
The explanation of the 1969 Act prepared by Congress's Staff of the Joint Committee on Internal Revenue Taxation described the reason for the AMT as follows:
"The prior treatment imposed no limit on the amount of income which an individual or corporation could exclude from tax as the result of various tax preferences. As a result, there were large variations in the tax burdens placed on individuals or corporations with similar economic incomes, depending upon the size of their preference income. In general, those individual or corporate taxpayers who received the bulk of their income from personal services or manufacturing were taxed at relatively higher tax rates than others. On the other hand, individuals or corporations which received the bulk of their income from such sources as capital gains or were in a position to benefit from net lease arrangements, from accelerated depreciation on real estate, from percentage depletion, or from other tax-preferred activities tended to pay relatively low rates of tax. In fact, many individuals with high incomes who could benefit from these provisions paid lower effective rates of tax than many individuals with modest incomes. In extreme cases, individuals enjoyed large economic incomes without paying any tax at all. This was true for example in the case of 154 returns in 1966 with adjusted gross incomes of $200,000 a year (apart from those with income exclusions which do not show on the returns filed). Similarly, a number of large corporations paid either no tax at all or taxes which represented very low effective rates.
Jody - have you been watching Bill Moyer's new program on PBS. He discusses in depth just how much the system is rigged. I really enjoyed the last program with the former CEO of CitiBank. He too, agreed that the marriage of Wall Street and the Banking system was disastrous. I found it very enlightening that he identifies with and supports the message of OWS.
RedDevPS,
I love that Bill Moyers has a new program. I saw part of it last Friday evening.
And regulation/enforcement of finacial institutions are too little ,too late even with Dodd /Frank in place.
Looking forward to the next segment.
Jody--not only does he pay such a low rate relative to those whose income is earned, his tax plan would lower the taxes on the 1% while increasing taxes on the lowest earning Americans. And this is supposed to make independents like him?
I don't think most people fully appreciated how rigged the system has been since the Bush tax cuts came about, lowering taxes on interest and dividends to 15%, along with capital gains. Most people don't have a lot of that income so they wouldn't know about how it was taxed. Plus, it isn't obvious from the return how the tax is calculated (for those who have someone else do their returns or even on Turbo Tax).
NorthStar - you can catch back episodes on his website. Just google PBS Bill Moyers. Well worth the time to watch - enjoy!!
RedDevPS
thanks!! I will do...
Love Bill Moyers, thanks for that info RedDevPs.....always enjoy your posts...you too Northstar hope all is well with you.
Gingerbread Mamma,
I am doing fine. My cold is gone.
Hope you have a plan for Wed to celebrate the peace and quiet that will once again be yours.
I wish Bill Moyers would do more, he's the classiest Journalist out there, but he doesn't always hang with the corporate media point of view....
You know, I'm in the process of revising my opinion on OWS at this time, Not that I thought it was wrong in the first place, but that it was misdirected, more on this later....
I salute you for your willingness to re-examine this issue, Egilman. It's heartening to know that not all minds are set in stone in this country.
Right it was Bush who rigged the system. It wasn't Obama who invested 500 million dollars in a company belonging to his friends that EVERYONE knew was going to fail, I guess that must have been Bush as well. Get a clue. Government is corrupt, it doesn't matter who is in power unless we can get people to shrink the size and influence of the federal government, it is going to take several election cycles where we through out incumbents who tell us they are there to reduce the $16 Trillion in debt that Obama has created the bulk of until they get the message. The 1% don't have $16 trillion to pay this back, I know I sure dont, yet Obama wants to keep raising the debt ceiling and spending more, Throw all the bums out, starting with Obama.

There is a strong possibility that he is actually a robot, and not a friendly one
Talks like Ward Cleaver
Brags about being unemployed while collecting 20M/year for doing nothing
Is the reigning world champion in free form pandering
Is so devoid of ideas he often just quotes the lyrics to America the Beautiful
Says things like the following, "I believe in an America where millions of Americans believe in an America that’s the America millions of Americans believe in. That’s the America I love."
Phony creepy laugh
Worried about getting pink-slipped!
Corporations are people
One gets the feeling that Romney changes into a suit to relax. After the release of his taxes he became a poster boy for what's wrong our tax system. He is supporting for-profit colleges, including one who contributed a nice chunk of change to his campaign......and on and on and on. ; )
I like immigrants. I have some in my family.

Romney called Barack Obama a "lifelong politician".
Community Organizing is pretty much politics, these community groups are mostly funded by the government so Romney is right. Obama has only done two things in his life, community organize and hold political office--lifelong politician.
Said it before, say it again...you can't make 40+ million in 2 years in the form of returns and dividends and then talk about how sour the economy is. Money is still moving Mitt. If it weren't, you wouldn't be pulling in that kind of cash. The economy is sour for everybody...except those with the heavy green backs.
People want to lump Buffet and Romney together. The difference, in my opinion, is that Buffet gives voice to the inequality and unbalanced playing field tilted heavily towards the Haves. Romney does not.
Nobody is mad at your money playa...handle your business like you need to do. But don't insult me with phrases like you're unemployed as well, or that you've been worried about a pink slip before. That's flat out bull crap and insultive. I also find insultive your statement that you didn't inherit anything from your Dad...that you've worked for what you have.
The latter half of that statement may well be true, but the first half I have issue with. You didn't pay for the schools, camps or any other institutions you went to. Your education (and a darn good education to boot) was paid for by Parents who loved you and were able to provide that to you. In my opinion, for you to casually dismiss what they provided for you in the beginning tells me all I need to know.
Hears what I hear, the President speaks about what his Mother and Grandparents did for him to provide him his education. Romney speaks about what he did as works of his own hands.
Worlds apart.
So true...and such a profoundly simple way to distinguish Obama and what he has accomplished from Romney and what he inherited.
I got a feeling the other camps will be dropping some more bombs on Mittens before the re-pube primary's are over. Then he has the Obama camp to contend with. I think Mitt would be better off hiding under a rock.
For an interesting take on who Mitt is or isn't:

Diane,
Thank you for the link.
Great article.
i am interested in his experience in his church as bishop and other leadership position. As the article stated, it is not about theology or even Mormonism but real orgainzing expereince. Mormon communities are set up like small cities with all sorts of rules, procedures and political and social action for the benefit of its members.
But Romney never speaks about that part of his past work expereince.
when the catholic church excommunicates you, most say oh well, and get on with life.
When the Mormon church excommunicates you, you leave the state, leaving your parents and family behind, never to show your face again, never to see your children again, you give up everything you thought was solid in life.
There is a hell of a difference.
Mormon (Church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints) communities? There aren't any. Name one. There are some smaller cities in Utah that are predominatly LDS or mormon but they don't have any special rules, they live by the same laws that everyone else in the state of Utah or whichever state they live in does. Where do you people get these crazy ideas?
If you want to know what mormons believe get a copy of the Book of Mormon and read it. You can get a free copy by contacting any mormon or going to www.mormons.org or www.lds.org. Judge for yourself before believing something someone who doesn't actually know anything about the Church Romney belongs to tells you. The Church has one of the most successful and sophisicated welfare and humanitarian aid organizations in the world. Because of an all voluntary clergy (Mormon local church leaders like Romney was serve for free, he also didn't accept any salary for turning Bain or the Utah Olympics around either-he did that for free as well) the Church has a lot of money to use helping others and they do a much better job of this than the federal government does. The only group I would say that does it better is the Amish, but the Amish limit their good works to their local communities, the Mormon church spreads it's money all over the world whenever there is a catastrophe and a need.
Allen,
Well said.
It reminds me of Obama statement in one of his books. There is a different view of our country from the windows of a private jet at 30,000 ft and view from the ground among the neighborhoods in the city , suburbs, small town.
"Romulian Romney" is the GOP "Speculator and Chief!" This very Economically Evil" Romulian is a "Bain Trained" CEO economic vulture. The "Romulian" has off shore accounts in Bermuda, the Caymans, and in Switzerland. It is appearing that the "Romulian" has NOT reported these accounts to the IRS. Who hid his funds into thees offshore accounts?? Why did he hide these funds in the offshore accounts?? How long has the "Romulian" hidden his unearned money in offshore accounts?? Why would the GOP "Speculator and Chief" ever want to make the US Tax Codes fair?? This "Romulian" believes that Corporations are people! Really?? He loves to fire people! He likes to put "Profits Over People!" The "Romulian" is not Presidential at all, and the "Romulian" would be "Politically Pulverized" by President Obama. That is fact! The "Rumulian" is still collecting a paycheck for Bain Captial, and he does not even know what a pink slip looks like. That is fact! The "Romulian" knows what the Middle Class is struggling with! Really??? Now that is the cruelist joke of all that the "Romulian" can pull on Americans. The "Romulian" has presented NO jobs plan. No plan for fair trade. No plan for reducing our deficit fairly. No common sense with Foreign Policy issues. NO plans for much financial regulations. No plan for ending the "Brainless Bush" Tax Cuts. No plan for anything that helps 99.9% of Americans. Only the top 0.06% of Americans will do very well under the GOP "Speculator and Chief."
You forgot to mention "If someone came to me about building a space station on the moon I would say "YOU"RE FIRED." Or the way to get rid of illegals is by "self deportation" in other words it seems this is man with a heart of stone, and yet a naivity that's unbelievably crazy.
he is knowing in the ways of money, he is naive in the ways of real people
At the time Williard said that he paid and effective rate of 15% l said to myself pinochio will soon catch up with him, wallah the truth is that he paid exactly 13.9%. l am sure by the time he shows about 12yrs prior the bottom will leak open after our DNC demands to see what Mcain saw and dump him as VP and settled for the daunce from Alaska.
Romey paid out 42% of all his earnings in 2010 to the government or to charity. So what if the government only got 15% of it, the government wastes most of the money we send them anyway. If bureaucrats actually had a clue how to run ANYTHING most people like me wouldn't mind sending them money. I don't like my money being wasted, I like to see people like Romney keep what is theirs, the government doesn't have any right to it. It is especially good when someone like Romney gives more to private charities than he does to the government, private charities use the money wisely and it actually benefits the people who need help, Obama just hire some more bureaucrats and hopes that some of the money trickles down to those who need it. But it gets eaten up by the bureaucrats and their friends and by those who can easily obtain it fraudulently because government bureaucrats are clueless when it comes to actually running anything.
Yep, that's true. I said that independents aren't going to vote Mr. Romney anyway because he basically said "I'm going to cut taxes for job creators (meaning himself) and change the tax code so everybody pays into it" In other words the poor are going to see there taxes go up and the richer people in the United States go down. I don't think independents want to give Mr. Romney more money then he already has ladies and genetlmen.
Romney wants to close tax loopholes for the rich, Obama doesn't. Why is that do you suppose? Could it be that Obama wan'ts to raise taxes on the rich, but not on all the rich, only those that aren't his supporters? Do you think maybe he wants to leave loopholes for his rich friends like Sorros and Buffet to enjoy? The way to raise taxes on the rich is not to raise the tax rate it is to revise the tax system and close the loopholes that all the lobbying by rich coroporations and people like Sorro's and Buffet have created for themselves 0ver the past 20 years by buying congressmen, senators and presidents.
You people are so gullible. you believe all the lies you are being fed by Obama and his propoganda buddies in the media. Take an actual look at the real world, see how things get done, vote for someone who wants to change the tax code, close loopholes and create a fair tax. In spite of all the loopholes the 1% still pay more than their fair share of taxes, if you add up all the taxes the bottom 95% of us taxpayers pay, the 1% pay more than we do. What we need to do is eliminate the special treatment of some of these 1% by getting rid of the loopholes they have purchased. As a group they are already paying far more than their fairshare and we need them to have money to invest in creating jobs for a middle class in this country so we have to get rid of the government regulations that make investing money in China and India more profitable for them. This is a global economy, the US competes for the one percenters investment dollars with all the other countries in the world. Obama is making it difficult to invest here, he wants to penalize them for making money here. What do you think will be the result of that type of policy? Can any of you see what is happening in Greece, Italy, Spain, and France. Perhaps you should take a good look around and get a small dose of reality.
Now in the final hours before the Sunshine state rains on someones parade, the candidates are firing huge bunker busters at each other.....Will Myth Romney remain the King of comedy or will Rootin Tootin Newton make a last stand....or.....Will Obama school the fools and win 4 more ??? stay tuned ...same BATTY time...same Batty channel !!!!! Who will it be.... Mitt the UNDECIDABLE FORCE or.... Newty the IMMORAL OBJECT ????
Since Gingrich and Santorum "made so many really tacky allegations about Romney and were the ones that presented them and Romney went wor negative toward his rivals and Obama...............I would expect Obama is working night and day so that "if any of these allegations are true........Romney becomes a casualty."
LTC Rattus, USA, ret.
Yawn, this should be quite obious. A battle between the chubby, peevish liar and mr. flip flop is interesting but sometimes part of the process is boreing. I don't care which of those clowns wins the nomination Obama will wipe the floor with him.
Not in this economy, sorry! Whoever the nominee is, I assume it will be Romney, will wipe the floor with Obama. If the prediction by Bernake is true that this economny will show no improvement to very little improvement for at least the next 2 years, the voters will not wait around for Obama to ask the people to give him 4 more years. Look at history. It is the economy. The economy is bad, people need jobs, Obama has no clue on what needs to be done to create jobs, Obama will be gone!! Wishfull thinking on all you posters who are not realistic and predict an Obama win in a bad economy.
Yes, President Obama is waiting until these flakes and clowns are done "throwing each other off the island." Then the president will take aim, fire, fire for effect, and constant fire.
One thing is true, this is going to be the year in which the presidency is bought and paid for, the only question is, for how much and by whom.
Romney may not win a popularity contest with the independents, but given a choice between him and Obama, the independents will take an unpopular competent businessman over the talking turd that currently resides in the Whitehouse. It's about ability, not charm, and the people know it. They tried charm with Obama and got snake oil. It won't happen again.
I agree. Especially in a bad economy, the Independents will not vote for Obama in the general election, even if they do not like the Republican candidate.
Ron, The problem is that the independents are actually thinkers and don't usually follow the same pattern as those who refer to the President of the United States as a turd. It tends to show a lack of respect and intelligence.
Romney has a lot going against him:
1%, flip flopper, RomneyCare, 13.9%, Swiss Bank Account, Bain, Mormon.
He looks the part, but nothing else is right for him to be the President.
GCV, But Romney has the most important thing going for him right now, a bad economy and Obama's bad record.
Sounds a lot like Obama to me.
Why would anyone vote for Romney? All of the GOP candidates have a lot more money than I do, but Romney has way more than all of them. He is so out of touch with the average Joe and our financial situations, that he cannot relate to our situations. I think that all that will happen, if he get elected is that he will get a lot richer and the rest of us will get poorer. I really wish Herman Cain would have stayed in the race. I will write him in if Pomney is nominated.
Do you think Mitt could live with my tax plan? It is very simple. Double the standard deduction and personal exemptions. Allow only interest paid to be deducted for only one residence. Keep the same tax table as we now have. Mitt and his cronies would be taxed at 36%.
People say that if we tax the rich to harshly, they won't use their money to make jobs. Bull. They would use it to make more money to offset the increase in taxes paid. Why? Because one of the traits of human nature is greed. They will do what they have to keep up their income levels.
Get a clue. If we tax them here, they take their investment money elsewhere. Why do you think China and India are expanding and we are not. This is a global economy, we are competiting for investment dollars from the 1%, most of which live here in America (gee I wonder why that is). They will take their money and go to China and India and other places that have a government that has figured out the way to have prosperity and a sustainable middle class is by encouraging the one percenters to invest in their country not by demonizing them and attempting to confiscate their money. What do you people use as a substitute for a brain? Take a deep breath, look at what Obama socialist policy is currently doing to Europe, what it did to pre-capitalist China and what it did to the USSR. It destroys the middle class and creates universal poverty. Stop believing the lie. If you want something you have to work for it, the government can not give it to you and remain a solvent stable government.
The CBS poll is forgetting to mention the following:
In a head to head match up with incumbent President Barack Obama, the indie voter chooses Ron Paul, a CBS News poll suggested on Monday.
A total of 47% of independent voters said they would choose Ron Paul compared to 45% of independent voters choosing Mitt Romney against Obama… Obama would get just 40% of the independent vote in that contest…
We've known this for quite a while, one problem, getting Dr Paul to the nomination for those votes to count.
If the Republicans are so set on removing Obama from the oval office, there is one guaranteed way to do it, but it will be cutting their neo-con political throat, Nominate Dr Paul but, in the end, they will be saving the Republican party and the country.
Count me among the independents who has a negative opinion of Romney. But, hey, look on the bright side, Mitt. You're still head and shoulders above the rest of the Republican field.
Here's Mitt's real problem, though: if he tries to pivot back to the center, it's just going to feed the narrative that he's a dishonest politician who only says whatever he needs to in order to get elected. And every step will be met with fierce resistance and criticism from the conservatives in his own party. Republicans are backing their own guy into an unpopular corner just like they did with McCain. For a full repeat of 2008, Democrats just need to find a way to convince him to pick Jan Brewer as a running mate.
Actually Nathan,
we are trying to back the whole establishment Neo-con wing of the party into a corner, and we are doing it...
Mark Erich Joseph Laschinski makes a good point. I know the media, and radio talk show pundits want to pretend Ron Paul does not exist, but here is the reality of it all. Ron Paul has more RePublican votes than people realize. Ron Paul has a huge number of support from Democrats. Independents will vote for Ron Paul too. Romney, Gingrich, and Santorum all represent the status quo. They represent party politics and business as usual. With Ron Paul running against President Barack Hussein Obama, everyone who voted for the incumbent President last election, would vote for Ron Paul in this one. Sounds like a winner to me.
One has to wonder that no matter what, Romney is always leading in the polls??,hmm.
Led in Iowa, lost in Iowa, Led in New Hampshire and won ( liberal state to begin with ), led in S.C., lost in S.C by a good margin, and now Florida ( I am voting Newt when I vote this morning ), Romney still leading in the polls no mmatter what seems to happen, hmm.
Now I know the liberals on this blog love Romney ( very close to their idiot in chief ) and most of the republicans on here don't like Romney ( still leading in the polls though ) and the independents on here don't like him and still he leads in the polls. This is sounding like a very bad repeat of John Kerry campaign ( you do know Kerry was in Viet Nam ) and is apparently being helped by the lib media.
Now Romney may take Florida, but it will be a lot closer than the polls show it with the native Floridians going for Newt and the transplants going for Romney. No matter what, if Romney comes out ahead it will mean he bought it, not won it.
Just goes to show how STUPID those Hateful Racist Repuglican Tea-baggers are here! They refuse to get behind support their ONLY candidate who has even half a chance at beating my Beloved Dear Leader President Barack Obama! Yet they swear how badly they wants to get that BLACK man out of their so-called WHITEY house but won't coalesce behind one candidate! I just simply don't get it? GOOD GRIEF! OY VEY!!!!
Mickey D,
Boy you guys like to push that Far Left Racism crap, don't you. President Obama's color has nothing to do with it. He's just a lousy, Socialist President, led by his huge ego and his desire for reelection. Who, if anyone, is running the Country right now? His 57 Far Left Czars? Spooky!
Another teabag rears its ugly head. Romney stands for everything, and nothing at the same time.
dembarb,
....and Obama stands for what? HOPE AND CHANGE?
I hope we change President's.
The President already wore that out, he ran hoping the Republicans would change and they did, unfortunately for the worse.
