Gingrich super PAC figure crashes Romney rally

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- It seems turnabout is fair play in Florida, where a prominent supporter of Newt Gingrich showed up this morning at a rally for Mitt Romney following a week of Romney surrogates crashing Gingrich events.

Rick Tyler, a senior strategist and spokesman for Winning Our Future, a pro-Gingrich super PAC, held court at the back of this morning's Romney gathering in Jacksonville.

"I was trying to tweet out the event -- I couldn’t keep up with the lies," Tyler told reporters. "Mitt Romney seems to have a congenital defect. He can’t distinguish the truth from a lie. And that’s evident in his ads, its evident in his speeches."

Tyler, who said he was "having a great time" at the Romney rally, spoke at great length about what he said were Romney's misrepresentations of the former House speaker's record, Romney's character, and his predictions for how the race would continue after Florida.

He called Romney a "disgraceful and despicable candidate," and said that the former Massachusetts governor lied about his record there on issues ranging from abortion to tax increases.

Tyler's appearance follows a week in which prominent Romney supporters shadowed Gingrich at a number of the speaker's events in Florida. Most prominently, Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz attended a few events, during which Gingrich's spokesman, R.C. Hammond, got into an audible argument with the congressman.

There were no such fireworks between Tyler and Romney staffers. Several members of Romney's advance team seemed aware of Tyler's presence, with one hovering nearby, but no one confronted Tyler during, or immediately following, the rally.

"I’m trying to be a good guest. I wasn’t offered any coffee and it's cold in here, but other than that..." Tyler said.

Tyler admitted Romney's nearly five-to-one advertising advantage here in Florida would ultimately have an effect on the results here, but said Gingrich was still getting "huge" crowds.

As for his post-Florida predictions for Gingrich's campaign: " He’s going to go on. I guarantee it. I raise you my right hand."

Think Progress:

Three immigration activists interrupted Mitt Romney's stump speech in Miami last week, shouting, "Why are you trying to separate our families?" and "What about equality?" Romney ignored the three hecklers, who said they were part of the DREAM Act movement. This is not the first time Romney has been targeted by students because of his promise to veto the DREAM Act or for his extreme immigration views — the harshest among the GOP presidential field. "We are here for a pro-family agenda. Pro families that are undocumented, pro families that have parents who are same-sex couples," one activist said. "Romney has a platform that is anti-family."

Did you see that? Romney ignored them. It's only their entire futures that are on the line. If you watch Romney, he has a tendency to turn his back on people he doesn't want to engage in. Just turns his back on them and completely ignores them.

David Alexrod: Jeb Bush recognizes what Mitt does not: that our diversity is a strength, and not a wedge.

Of course the liberals would rather them disappear, but as long as they are battling it out, it does 2 things... provides some really good entertainment, and shows people that they are actually trying to climb on top of each other.

This man crush is flattering, but sorry Brian, I'm not going to play sausage grinder with you. Speaking of which, the right also owns the gay basher-killer set. The right owns the race killer set. Nothing more disgusting than seeing, in this day and age, a black man tied to the back of a pickup truck being dragged to death, or a gay man tied to a fence post and beaten to death.

What is it about the right that they feel the need to persecute and kill? Yet they abhor the constitutional privilege of demonstrating, comparing it to the "rampant spreading of disease".

The only spreading of disease going on is hate, which again, the right owns, lock-stock and barrel. For some, it must be that spread of time between conjugal visits.

As for lefties being out for whatever they can get....I've worked every day of my life (over 45 years of working for a living), I was in the military for 23 years, and I also participated in Occupy Long Beach, of which was NOT a "camping" trip for the homeless! Red Dev PS you are just as guilty of being intolerant when you lump all Christian's and conservatives together.

@ Didi I don't disagree with some of the OWS basic ideals just not all. Here in my city it was funny the OWS people were for all the people until the homeless starting coming by for free food that the OWS people were bringing in. News crews captured the OWS complaining about the homeless wanting food, seems their generosity only went so far. They were all about someone else taking care of them as long as it wasnt coming out of their pockets.

I think Margaret Thatchers quote on this was quite appropriate for the situation

"The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money [to spend]."

ksw - I did not lump all conservatives and Christians together. I was specifically speaking to a subset of bombing, murderous, anti-abortionist Christians. Not every conservative and not every Christian fits that category.

Now that is cleared up, the right does own that sub-group.

Oh, and kws,

guilty of being intolerant when you lump all Christian's and conservatives together.

By tagging any OWS or Occupy Long Beach movement with the term socialist shows not only your intolerance, but your ignorance of the movement. Funny, but when middle-easterners protest against their government, we compare it to democratic ideals of free speech, liberty, justice for all, blah, blah. But when American citizens protest, conservatives rush to call it socialism, marxism, communism. What is it with you people and your double standards?

Why don't you give us a complete list of "bombing, murderous, anti-abortionist Christians"? It shouldn't take you very long since it occurred.....what.....4 or 5 times?

Read away dadel .. that is, if you can. While you may think 4-5 times is a non-event, I think it quite tragic. We have a clear understanding of your thoughts on terrorist attacks - laissez-faire. Oh, and it isn't 4-5 instances of terrorism, it numbers in the hundreds .. and those are just the documented cases.

This morning on Morning Joe I heard them bring up an interesting possibility. The reason Romney only reasoned a tax return for 2010 and an estimate for 2011 is due to the fact he might have paid near 0% on some of the prior years. Since nearly all of his income comes from investments, he could have had enough write offs due to losses on investments that he would have paid a tax rate of 0%, but still made millions of dollars that year. Nothing illegal about it, but when everyone is struggling, it will be hard to swallow no taxes and making millions of dollars. Too bad Newt can't get his hands on Romney's tax returns before the Florida primaries tomorrow. That would be a game changer.

phancy - Believe it or not, there is a lot of like anger across the nation. I don't know who could run this year that would make a big difference. Not many people are willing to expose their britches in a presidential run. Look at all the hay being made of the current candidates through the media, and, even though they really don't count at the moment, the liberals. Exposure like that does something to a person. You gotta really want to be President to make a go for it, or you end up self imploding, or in a pile of defeat. I can understand, given the conditions of this country, why it would be a hard choice to run. I can't name anyone who would want to take up the challenges they'd face, the criticism they'd encounter, and dealing with the yahoo's in Washington on a presidential basis.

While it is speculation, if you can't see that as a possibility then I'm glad I don't have you managing my funds. There is a high likelihood that when the market went down in 2008 that Romney had a tax rate approaching 0% because most of his income comes from investments and our government allows individuals to write off bad investments to lower their taxes. Romney most likely made several million dollars in 2008 and paid nearly $0 taxes because the market went from like 12000 to 6000.

As I said there is nothing illegal with it. I am just bring up the topic of the aesthetics of how it will appear if people knew a millionaire running for President made millions of dollars and paid $0 in taxes. It might not matter to you or I, but it might to some people.

          ===========

This has been my argument against the experience of Romney. IMO, Romney's experience shows that he may well know how to utilize the Economy and/or Tax code to increase personal and corporate wealth, but that his experience has NOT created/altered an Economy where the whole benefits.

Romney's experience shows he knows how to USE, not CREATE an economy. I have yet to hear 1 person, including Romney articulate how the his experience in the Private Sector relates to what he can/will do in the Oval Office.

In such a crappy economic environment, it's difficult to take a guy seriously who has mae 40 million in ROI and Dividends in the last 2 years. Sweet Lord, if the economic times were 'good' what in the world would he have allegedly made?!?!?!

Put 2 and 2 together...you've made 40+ million in the last 2 years and yet you claim the President's policies have somehow destroyed or made worse the economy!?! Take your logic Mitt, "Investors are People too, my friend. Investors are People" No matter if your money is parked off-shore or on-shore, People and Business are doing things with their money. If they weren't you wouldn't be making 20 million a year.

From my perspective, you only have 2 arguments. Either the economy isn't as dire as you portray or it's a clear example of a system that is geared heavily towards the Haves vs. the Have Nots and made very effectively to keep it that way.

Neither, in my opinion work in your favor.

The most powerful dynamic in Florida over the past week has been the Romney campaign’s success at blunting the momentum from Gingrich's South Carolina win by seeding a gardenful of personal and political doubts about him. But the sheer ferocity (and success) of that assault, delivered in many cases by pillars of the GOP establishment like former presidential nominees John McCain and Bob Dole, has prompted leading conservative figures like Herman Cain, Sarah Palin, and talk show hosts Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin to deepen their identification with Gingrich in response.

Polls show Gingrich cutting Romney Fla. lead to single digits

Two new polls show Newt Gingrich narrowing the gap with Mitt Romney in Florida, one day ahead of that state's crucial primary.

Not that Romney had the Tea Party vote anyway, but this will fuel turnout at the very least...

dangerfield, the odd thing about that redistricting is the fact our governor rode into power on the back of the tea party. Of course, he is not exactly Mr. Popularity now.

side note I heard on my local ABC news station. Some teenagers wrote a rap song for Newt.

            Titled "Hoot for Newt"

Mitt Romney seems to have a congenital defect. He can’t distinguish the truth from a lie. And that’s evident in his ads, its evident in his speeches.

Wow, coming from an ally of Newt Gingrich this is about the biggest compliment possible.

So where will he go and what will happen to all the Super PAC money when Romney wins the nomination? Or visa versa?

There are lies and vitrol coming from both Romney and Gingrich. Eventually the Republican party is going to have a nominee and that nominee is going to, and rightly so, expect support from the entire party. With the division I see now I doubt there will be the usual cohesivness int he Republican party this time around.

Historically it is the Democrats who squabble and refuse to support the ultimate nominee but this time around it is the Republicans who normally rally around the ultimate nominee of their party.

It is okay to have rivalries and campaigns where friends can argue about issues but Gingrich and Romney have carried their disagreements to a higher level. Meanwhile the Democrats sit back and chortle at the spectacle while preparing to take on which ever of those clowns is the nominee using what his opponent did against him and laying on some new stuff to boot. GOP money will have been spent and spent and spent by those two (money that could feed poor kids or give medical treatment to Americans) just to get their party's nomination. How much will be left to go against Obama in the Fall? Obama is quietly collecting for his campaign and his Super PACs don't need to spend now but to collect enough for the Fall campaign and outspend whichever GOP/TP candidate is nominated.

As much as some folks may be angry at or disappointed with Obama compared to his opponent he'll look a whole lot better. Sadly another least of the evils vote for some people. For others it is clear that they will vote for Obama anyway or they will vote for the Republican anyway even if the Republican had horns, a tail and carried a pitch fork.

Any one is free to go to these events. But the desperate comments by the Gingrich supporters are a joke.

I'll just say this, for the GOP sake this process keeps going because if not Mr. Romney will get dusted.

I just don't understand why so many seniors in Florida are going to vote for Romney....do they actually READ what he's said he's going to do IF he's elected president? Do they realize that he wants to do away with Medicare and Social Security? Their way of life as it is now will be drastically changed, and for some reason, they can't see that!! Apparently, they do not actually read the papers or watch the REAL TV other than the ridiculous advertisements. Either that, or they are so engrained with voting for a Republican, no matter WHO it is, that they can't see themselves doing anything else!! I hope, for their sakes, that President Obama is re-elected (and he WILL be) or they will be in serious jeopardy!! If they only knew.......

Love visiting the far left and hear them talk about the right. As an independant they all should go and we should start over with new people. As for Romney and his lying well it is true he is. Gingrich was finally aquitted of the charges and resigned due to the loss of seats in the following election and drop in support of his party so he stepped aside. This is America folks do your research dont rely on these talking heads they have their own agenda. Find your candidate research him or her and do your homework that is how you are supposed to do it. Thank you and have fun tearing my post apart.

I hate to see this mud-wrestling, roller-derby mentality being displayed for all the world to see. We as voters of either party should let it be known that all this hate, hurt and bad behavior WILL NOT GET SOMEONE ELECTED!

I tried to teach my kids to "play fair" and take the high road, not stoop to the lowest level just to win anything - let alone the leader of the US.

Sickening politicians - all of them regarless of party involvement!

The Republican Party is opposed to the migratory reform and for decades.

He likes the Republican Party the completely broken disfunctional system the laws of immigration.

Obama did an agreement with the Republican Party that was going to make to fulfill the immigration quotas of deportation to the maximum if the Republican Party of agreement to take the migratory reform.

The Republican Party of agreement because they were thinking that it would be impossible that Obama actually to reach the quotas. But the president has supported completely his part of the negotiation and now the Republican Party has refused to support his part of the dealing.

Obama is the only way to achieve the real migratory reform. and that the need to vote to end all the republican obstructionists in the Congress, so that we could advance in these very important reforms.
