Gingrich labels Romney a 'liberal'

LADY LAKE, Florida– As the race in Florida draws to a close, Newt Gingrich is trying to draw a much sharper contrast between himself and his “liberal” GOP rival Mitt Romney.

“I am, in fact, the legitimate heir of the Reagan movement, not some liberal from Massachusetts,” Gingrich told the several thousand-person crowd at The Villages, a retirement community outside of Orlando.

In the past, the former House speaker always referred to Romney as a “Massachusetts moderate,” but early Sunday Gingrich began labeling the former Massachusetts governor as a “liberal” instead.

“This party is not going to nominate somebody who is a pro-abortion, pro gun control, pro tax increase liberal,” Gingrich told reporters about Romney outside Idlewild Baptist Church after attending services there this morning.

Gingrich has seen his poll numbers slip in the Sunshine State, where at one point he was beating Romney by a sizable margin. In the new NBC News/Marist poll released Sunday morning, Romney pulled ahead of Gingrich by 15 points – 42 percent to 27 percent.

The former speaker, though, said he was not discouraged by the polls and reiterated to reporters that he would take his campaign to Tampa in August.

“We will go all the way to the convention,” Gingrich said , adding that the convention might be a broken one.

“We have no evidence yet that Romney anywhere is coming close to getting a majority and I think when you take all the non-Romney votes, it's very likely that at the convention there will be a non-Romney majority and maybe a very substantial one,” he said.

The conservative vote in Florida seems to be split between Gingrich and Rick Santorum, who is polling at 16 percent in the new poll. Adding together the two men’s numbers would in turn pull one candidate ahead of Romney, which Gingrich hopes will eventually happen.

“Rick's going to get a decent vote … on Tuesday. I have no doubt the two of us are going to collectively outscore Romney,” Gingrich said. “And at that point it might be a pretty good conversation” to have with Santorum about trying to consolidate all the conservatives behind one candidate, he added.

What is positioned left to a true mad-dog conservative, a liberal is all I hear. Liberals care about people, conservatives care about smaller government. Political conservatives are willing to build-up the government bigger to make it smaller. Example the Bush term, his small government policies brought us, the Department of Homeland Security, the TSA, Two Wars, GITMO, Patriot Act. Be wary of the Conservative they have eyes on North Korea and Iran, they will fore go diplomacy and use lies to bring us to our next war. Remember the last election when republicans required a Military record to be president, which candidate has that experience. It is all smoke and mirrors for the GOP.

Yes, Romney is a liberal - just look at his version of mandated health insurance proves it. Newt is a liberal - look at his ties to Freddie and Fanny. We don't need a liberal, we need a Constitutional Conservative. Ron Paul is the closest, but I would vote for anyone by the muslim/socialist/marxist/

ROY: Really, you would Roy? Go back and look at Romney's stewardship of Massachusetts when he was governor. He was Pro Choice, Anti Coal Fired plants, Pro Gay rights & marriage, believed in Global Warming, wanted to institute not "Romney Care" but rather FEDERAL HEALTH INSURANCE. Acknowledge green house gasses and many other moderate to liberal policies.

Hey, I'm a liberal but this guy has exactly zero moral fibre. Seriously, go take a good long look at his record. He was "for the auto bailout, before he was against it", he advocated our support of the Libyian rebels and then blamed Obama for what he did. This guy changes his political stances like you change your socks. I still can't believe that your party is going to nomination the department store mannequin.

So what you are saying is: It doesn't matter who we vote for, we are f'd..am I right? Because God will walk on Earth in a tutu on roller skates before I vote for Ron Paul. So if he is the best choice, again I say we (as Americans) are f'd.

Hey Newt why don't you realize that the American public doesn't need you or like you.You continually come off as an arrogant, unlikeable, pompous big mouth. Which certainly fits you to a tee. If you had to spend your own money you would have dropped out a couple of weeks ago.

      Gingrich isnt exactly loved either.

Ron Paul well do better than people think if they really look to the future and care about the country.

Most of the obama supporters here post like 15 year olds, its really hard to understand what you would see in the man. His record stinks,i can only imagine the country doing worse with him for four more years.

RON: I'd suggest you take a good long look at Willard's record in Massachussetts. In some repects he was more3 "liberal" than Obama.

As for what I see in Obama, I could ask you what your crowd saw in Dubya, and certainly what you see in Romney. This guy is as phoney as they come. There is no position he will not alter or reverse to suit the moment. I honestly don't think he believes in much of anything.

Obama succeeded in doing what every Democratic president since Harry Truman had advocated, passing a national health care program. And BTW, it is a carbon copy of Romney's. Furthermore, Romney originally advocated a true, single payer health planl though you'd never get him to acknowledge it now. He successfully got Bin Laden in 2 years when Dubya couldn't get it done in 8. I know it hurts the Right to acknowledge his successes but if you could stop being partisan for one minute, you might be able to see the good he's done.

I find it extremely interesting that some bloobs on this post are making fun of the Republican battle for the right to represent the Party. These people (?), need to think back about four years or so when Obama and Clinton were calling each other eveything under the sun Accusing each other of the most vile of things, and even Clinton talkers were using the so called "code" words when speaking about Obama. That is all but forgotten now and it is a brand new thing as far are they are concerned when rediculing the Republicans. This is no more Republican politics than it is Democratic politics. Go for it boys and may the best man win.

I just watched the most interesting video about how Georgia is taking Obama's birth certificate to the courts. They stated that Obama is using a Social Security number from Connecticut of which he has never resided.

Obama is going to have to spell this out or possibly not be on the Georgia ballot. I'm sure though that MSNBC won't be covering this story.

He sure slammed the Senate with 1000 days without a budget. Also, he is coming out with a new budget in March on how to save the U.S. from total disaster. I hope you dems will open your ears and eyes and listen for a change.

Is there any subject the dems win on when it comes to the economy?? Don't blame the repubs for it, the Senate and Obama have screwed it up for everyone.

Also, Jeb Bush gave an interview today. Boy, if he was VP...

coolgatos, I do believe Hillary Clinton was the one who brought his birth certificate up.

I believe the birth certificate issue is legit. According to the Constitution he must have both parents as U.S. citizens. Also it must be fraudulent in that his birth name is Barry not Barack. If you know the answer to that question, please advise.

These questions should be addressed. If this was a Bush question...OMG.

The whole Republican campaign has been (as usual) a big f'n joke. I don't care to hear the mud slinging and character demolition. I want to hear what each candidate is going to do. Doesn't really matter; because the stupidity increases day by day. Keep wasting our time; you continue to make yourselves look foolish. It's obvious to me that NONE of the Republican candidates are REALLY interested in our Country as a whole (maybe Ron Paul, but the majority of your party think he's crazy), only for the intest of their lobbyists. Keep the mudslinging going.....Obama 2012!

PAY: Really? I'd say Dubya was pretty darn good at spending other people's money or had you failed to notice this during his 8 disasterous years on the White House. No, it's just that you folks on the Right resent money being spent on our own citizens and especially those in need. Spending countless billions on stupid unnecessary wars, now that's just fine with you. Don't you remember what the draft dodger Dick Cheney said "Deficits don't matter"?

And as for the tax laws, Willard want to do away completely with the Capital Gains tax. Do you think that would benefit him much? LOL. He would then be paying ZERO taxes. And I assume that works for you??

And you don't think that stashing millions in the Caymen Islands is a tax dodge? To have a president who doesn't want to pay any taxes, now that would be just grand.
