Gingrich labels Romney a 'liberal'

LADY LAKE, Florida– As the race in Florida draws to a close, Newt Gingrich is trying to draw a much sharper contrast between himself and his “liberal” GOP rival Mitt Romney.

“I am, in fact, the legitimate heir of the Reagan movement, not some liberal from Massachusetts,” Gingrich told the several thousand-person crowd at The Villages, a retirement community outside of Orlando.

In the past, the former House speaker always referred to Romney as a “Massachusetts moderate,” but early Sunday Gingrich began labeling the former Massachusetts governor as a “liberal” instead.

“This party is not going to nominate somebody who is a pro-abortion, pro gun control, pro tax increase liberal,” Gingrich told reporters about Romney outside Idlewild Baptist Church after attending services there this morning.

Gingrich has seen his poll numbers slip in the Sunshine State, where at one point he was beating Romney by a sizable margin. In the new NBC News/Marist poll released Sunday morning, Romney pulled ahead of Gingrich by 15 points – 42 percent to 27 percent.

The former speaker, though, said he was not discouraged by the polls and reiterated to reporters that he would take his campaign to Tampa in August.

“We will go all the way to the convention,” Gingrich said , adding that the convention might be a broken one.

“We have no evidence yet that Romney anywhere is coming close to getting a majority and I think when you take all the non-Romney votes, it's very likely that at the convention there will be a non-Romney majority and maybe a very substantial one,” he said.

The conservative vote in Florida seems to be split between Gingrich and Rick Santorum, who is polling at 16 percent in the new poll. Adding together the two men’s numbers would in turn pull one candidate ahead of Romney, which Gingrich hopes will eventually happen.

“Rick's going to get a decent vote … on Tuesday. I have no doubt the two of us are going to collectively outscore Romney,” Gingrich said. “And at that point it might be a pretty good conversation” to have with Santorum about trying to consolidate all the conservatives behind one candidate, he added.

I am a Liberal and Gingrich's accusation that Romney is a Liberal is insulting to all who really are Liberals. Both of these Guys are jokes and neither are fit to be President. Only someone with the intelligence of a Jack Ass would vote for either one of these guys. I can just see President Obama in the White House jumping up and down with joy over how the Republican race is going.

Does Newt ever look in the mirror? Does his "devout catholic (their words, not mine)" wife ever look in the mirror? I would guess that neither have since Newt is a disgusting converted "pudgeboy" and his wife has the helmet head that lasts so she doesn't have to take a look and what she's been trying to find (below the belt!) while giving him that good old catholic blow job. For all their talk, they have no class...how revolting!

That's what's wrong with republicans...they like to sidestep, lie, blame someone else (european socialism; liberal media; attack ads, blah, blah, blah, waaaaahhhhhh, etc. - isn't what they were doing (Newt and helmut "head")? Dress it up any which way you want...it is what it was and no amount of hail mary's or whatever is going to make it sound any better or excuse the behavior.!

No matter what the media wants you to believe, It’s already a two-man race. Of the 2,286 total Republican delegates, 1,144 are needed to win nomination. In five (5) States: Virginia, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee and Illinois, Gingrich and Santorum are not even on the ballot. That’s 564 delegates that they cannot get. After South Carolina, only 59 delegates have been allocated to the 4 candidates. Mitt Romney has 39 (actually less but we will use this as a high) of those. This means Santorum or Gingrich has to pick up 1,144 delegates from the remaining 1,683. Let’s say that Paul only picks up 20% of the total number of delegates–I happen to believe he will do much better–but let’s pick 20%. That’s 457 delegates for Paul. Add that to the 564 that Newt and Santorum won’t have a shot at and now there are 1,021 delegates that Santorum and Gingrich have no chance of getting. Subtract that 1,021 from the total 2,286 and you’re left with 1,265 delegates. That means that Gingrich and Santorum, one or the other, have to pick up over 90% of the available delegates to get the nomination. So, essentially, we’re down to Paul and Romney. A vote for Gingrich and Santorum is a wasted vote! A vote for Paul is not a wasted vote and may well mean that the next President of the United States will be a man that, for the last 30 years, has never broken a promise, compromised his principles or waffled his position on an issue. A man that still believes that the Constitution of the United States is THE law of the land and that the protection of our individual liberties is the primary reason for the Federal government.

So between Romney and Ron Paul who would win?

Well 90% or better of the Ron Paul supporters WILL NOT vote for Romney or really ANYONE other than Ron Paul. This said the republican voting base is too small to defeat the Dems (Obama) alone. They have to pull Liberetarians, Tea Party, Independents and get some switch over vote from the Dems and of course Ron Pauls supporters are needed as well. ONLY ONE candidate can do this.

Ron Paul is the ONLY chance we have.

People need to be made aware of this before they absolutely throw their vote away on Newt or Santorum. I'm really not worried about Romney as he has voted basically hand in hand and supported the same things as Obama. This will start to be seen and Republicans will realize it and they won't support him. Anyway he can't win because the Ron Paul supporters, liberetarians, and lack of cross-over from Dems won't happen for him.

It really then comes down to Ron Paul vs Obama, who do you want?

                          Reply#115 - Sun Jan 29, 2012 8:08 PM EST

Ron Paul will not get more than 200 delegates- you can go to the bank on that.

Gingrich will be either 1st or second going into the convention

I've been a libertarian longer than Ron Paul. His brand of libertarianism is a fringe element that wants to transition to anarchy

Obama all the way and I don't always agree with him. However Paul is a libertarian, and in my view, that makes him a very selfish person. Libertarian's believe that it should be every man for themselves and to hell with any one else. They followed Ayn Rand to much, and she was a physcopath.

                                #115.3 - Mon Jan 30, 2012 3:00 AM EST

dragonmar- that's simply not true- libertarian beliefs predate Rand- I've been a libertarian for over 40 years and have never read nor have any interest in Ayn Rand.

I prefer Frederic Bastiat, Locke, Burke, John Stuart Mill, Thomas Jefferson, Samuel Adams, and more recently Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams, and Larry Elder (all Blacks BTW).

And let me correct your misstate about everyman for himself- that is a lie also. I'll let Bastiat answer you

Socialism, like the ancient ideas from which it springs, confuses the distinction between government and society. As a result of this, every time we object to a thing being done by government, the socialists conclude that we object to its being done at all.
We disapprove of state education. Then the socialists say that we are opposed to any education. We object to a state religion. Then the socialists say that we want no religion at all. We object to a state-enforced equality. Then they say that we are against equality. And so on, and so on. It is as if the socialists were to accuse us of not wanting persons to eat because we do not want the state to raise grain.” Claude Frederic Bastiat French Libertarian Philosopher

I do not covet the success of others. Welfare should be given through faith based organizations and the government should do what they were originally suppose to do.......protect the people so they can be free to work to support themselves and help their neighbors. I know, it's crazy......much better to borrow money from foreign countries with one hand while giving them foreign with the other.....that's not crazy.

It's like Judge Judy always asks..........'Do you know how you can tell when a teenager is lying?" and her answer is "when his lips are moving. Its the same with Gingrich...........but Gingrich's problem is that he perpetuates one lie after another until he firmly believes the stuff that comes out of his mouth. He claims to have participated in four balanced budgets with President Clinton but there were only two. He acts as if he and he alone was responsible for the budgets being balanced. He brags about his association with President Reagan but the truth is that Reagan only mentioned him once in his personal writings. The funniest thing, however, is him being endorsed by Herman Cain.......one womanizer being endorsed by another womanizer. Both of them should be ashamed of themselves but they really don't have any shame. Cain makes the pizzas and Gingrich looks like he eats every one. I bet the Dems are loving this...........I know I am.

Per Mediaite, ratings- starved leftist zealot Rachel Maddow had to beg popular conservative talk show host Laura Ingraham to be able to interview a major GOP superstar on her MSNBC show.

Why would GOP' ers go on a show no one watches, with an Obama poodle zealot with her error -plagued show, and her patented childish eye rolls?

Ingraham said Reagan would go anywhere to spout his conservative views.

So Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell, perhaps the next Vice President, will be interviewed by Maddow...

He will have no problem with Maddow; The Governor has been savaged by the Obama poodle Washington Post for 3 years, and is nontheless massively popular.

You have forgotten how Michelle looked before 2008 . Look up some old pictures. Sometimes people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Looks like all of my homosexual Liberal friends are getting scared as You should be. Romney will win the the ticket and crush Hussein in all of the debates. The Republicans will vote for Romney. All of the socialist will vote for Hussein which leaves a ton of moderates and independants...Well my friends take a look at Hussein's ratings amongst Independants since he has screwed everyone over and has done nothing for 3 yrs. Is Mitt somewhat to the center? Maybe, but they may be even more appealing the the moderates/independants trying to decide. Obama is 1 and done just like your other hero Jimmy Carter...Also why are so many faggot ass liberals surprised that the GOP canidates are all over eachother? Short memeories as to what happened between Hussein and Hillary 3 years ago? Have a great night pickle sniffers and carpet munchers!
