PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- With just three days to go until the Florida primary, Newt Gingrich told reporters Saturday he is in this presidential race for the long haul.
“I will go all the way to the convention. I expect to win the nomination,” Gingrich told reporters following an event outside the PGA Museum. “You just had two national polls that show me ahead. Why don’t you ask Gov. Romney what he will do if he loses since he is behind in both national polls?”
The former House speaker, who convincingly won the South Carolina primary, says he will get to the GOP convention in Tampa “state-by-state.” “If we win Florida, I will be the nominee,” he also noted to the couple hundred people in the crowd.
GOP rival Mitt Romney and Gingrich are fighting it out down in the Sunshine State this week – throwing jabs at each both on their own and with surrogates.
Romney continues to call Gingrich “Goldilocks” – making fun of him for complaining about the audience at debates. Gingrich reiterates his assertion that Romney lies because the campaign is desperate, telling reporters Saturday, “You cannot debate somebody who is dishonest.”
Surrogates from the Romney campaign stand in the back of most Gingrich events to give a “rebuttal” to the press. Saturday outside the golf museum, three members of Congress – Rep. Charlie Bass, R-N.H., Rep. Connie Mack, R-Fla., and Rep. Mary Bono Mack, R-Calif., – stood chatting when Gingrich campaign spokesman R.C. Hammond, for the third day in a row, approached the group and began asking questions.
Gingrich told reporters curious what he thought of the way his spokesman interacts with members of Congress that it is “a free country” and sees the Romney campaign sending supporters to his events as evidence of “desperation.”
“It's a slight overmatch – R.C.'s a little bit more informed than they are, but nonetheless, it's fine with me, he [Romney] can send as many members as he wants. When he gets tired we'll bring Toby back and Toby's agreed to help R.C. take a hit,” Gingrich said. [Toby is R.C. Hammond’s dog.]
One Romney surrogate, Rep. Bass, served with Gingrich in the House back in the '90s and said voters should listen to those who worked with the Speaker.
“He is a good guy but he is not going to be president of the United States,” Bass said. “He knows it, we know it, the people of Florida will know it next Tuesday.”

I certainly hope he stays in until the convention. It will make the silly season so much more fun to watch with that narcissistic blow hole in race. I suspect though that his promise is just an attempt to make sure that his money supply doesn't dry up after Romney whups him in Florida. Obama has to grin each time he hears Newty and Mitt tearing each other to shreds.
He's "gone all the way" with at least three different women while claiming to be a Christian. So he's a confirmed liar, just perfect for the Republican candidacy.

We all have not agreed with policies, but there is no justification for the total lack of respect for the president. President Obama and his family have been totally disrespected from many across the country; but, what I love to see is the manner in which the family handles all with dignity! No one can ever say that he has stooped to the level in which these that are disrespecting by doing the same. For this I respect he and his family! He and has family have taken a lot of punches, but they know at the end of the day, you can't please all and there are some who just love misery. Charlie, I think it's "black liberation theology", because it coexists with "secretly a Muslim" and it doesn't even occur to the wingnuts that saying he's simultaneously a dangerous, fringe Christian and a dangerous Muslim is an obvious lie. It just illustrates how completely, totally true it is that Conservatism isn't about consistency of thought or principle. Conservatism is a series of independent messages designed to sell policies beneficial to the wealthy elites.

The GOP had better get some other bonafide candidate to step forward to become the Presidential candidate for the party. All the current ones at these debates leave an empty hole as far as the leadership characteristics needed to get Congress to start accomplishing some actual work. We have a difficult job ahead as a country (society) to once again come into common agreement on most everything that's really important and forget petty selfish crap that is being paid attention to.
All this will come at a price - but how much will the cost be? And who is strong enough to stand up and voice what has to be done when all the garbage will be tossed his way to discredit him as much as possible.
This popularity contest for elections is not putting real candidates worthy of consideration in the limelight - instead we get these wannabes !! The same thing every 4 years just a different name and not really qualified for the challenge ahead of the job !!

What you are missing is Ron Paul is influencing a very large group of young people. They are being influenced for the better by him. Some of them will be the leaders of this country in the future and will have an impact. Love him or hate him, Ron Paul is reasonable, to the point and correct.

Odd that Republicans are looking at which candidate is the most electable when an equally interesting question might be which candidate has the longest coattails. If you were an incumbent Republican member of Congress running for re-election, which of these guys would you rather have heading the ticket?

I voted today. Last day to early vote in Florida. Certainly surprised myself. Was going to vote for Romney, considered Gingrich. I've tossed and turned over the selection now ever since the campaigning began. After considering where we have been, where we are, where we appear to be headed, I shocked myself by confidently voting for Ron Paul. He will not win but will have influence at the convention and great influence on those young up and comers who will be our future leaders. Yep, I'm an old fart who still believes in our system with all its warts. Better than any other if you participate.

As an avid Obama supporter, I watched every poll during the 2008 campaign and McCain was ahead of Obama two weeks out by 4 points - I nearly died of a heart attack. One of those polls was Rasmussen but I can't recall any of the others.
