Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney leads former House Speaker Newt Gingrich by two points in Florida, a margin well within a new poll's margin of error, reflecting a close race in the key primary.
Thirty-six percent of Republicans likely to vote in Florida's primary said they intend to vote for Romney; 34 percent would choose Gingrich, according to a CNN/TIME/ORC poll released Wednesday.
The poll underscores the tightness of what has essentially become a two-man race in the largest state yet to hold its nominating contest in the past month. Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum has seen his numbers plummet to 11 percent from 19 percent in CNN's last poll of Florida, conducted Jan. 13-17. Nine percent of Florida Republicans voiced support for Texas Rep. Ron Paul, who is not competing in earnest in Florida's primary.
The new data reflect the closeness of the race following Gingrich's win in the South Carolina primary last Saturday; Romney had led the former speaker by a 25-point margin in the previous version of this poll, a lead that's shrunk to two points, within the five percent margin of error of this survey.
The poll is the first statewide survey in Florida conducted completely after South Carolina's primary, in which Gingrich trounced Romney by 12 points, reviving his campaign and seemingly claiming the mantle of the candidate who presents a conservative alternative for Romney.
In the intervening days since that primary, the Romney campaign has spent millions on advertising assailing Gingrich's record, and a super PAC spending on Romney's behalf has spent millions more. A pro-Gingrich super PAC has also reserved millions in ads, but it's still dwarfed by the spending done by Romney forces in the state.
Moreover, Romney's been voicing sharper criticism of Gingrich and his record in Congress and advocacy work for Freddie Mac, most pointedly in a high-rated debate on Monday night in Florida.
To that end, the CNN poll suggests that Romney might have regained some footing against Gingrich in recent days. While Gingrich led Romney, 38 to 32 percent, in Sunday's polling, respondents on Monday and Tuesday were slightly more for Romney, 38 to 29 percent.

A major factor in their establishment was disagreement over the bank bailout and the excessive influence of Washington lobbyists.
Now, they've been "rewarded" for saving the Party by being given a choice of nominees between an ex-investment banker, worth $250 million and a Washington lobbyist, who took $1.6 million in consulting fees from Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.

In my opinion (not the least humble), the MOST important thing is the Silencing of the lambs! Doesn't matter who prefers which candidate, all were affected. The audience also had to have had negative feeling. It should not have been tolerated by any of the participants, especially the audience. I believe there is something we have in our freedoms called Freedom of Speech. We speak with clapping, foot stomping, vocal etc. but to take that ability from us is totally wrong! THE Media folk should NOT have the power to take that freedom from us. Reminds much of all the to-do about the people in North Korea who didn't show enough sorrow. We all thought that was pretty bad, but then it is just the same with this only in reverse. No one entity has the right to tell us how we express our thoughts or feelings. Remember that old saying "I may not agree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it!"?

Dispite what happened in SC and the haggling goin on in FL, all polls point to the fact---hate him or not---Romney is the only one who can stand against Obama. Hate those Mormons as much as you want....that there is a gospel fact of life!
I'm not a rocket scientist, but Romney is not going to be elected president, period. And why? Because he is Mormon and although evangelicals are as hypocrite as hypocrisy is, they will rather bring religion down than voting for a Mormon. It's so sad than in acountry that swears up and down the separation of church and state, when it's a Mormon they have no problem filing that in file 13 (trash) Of course, there is a problem with Gingrich's religion-new catholic-, but evangelicals will rather vote for Gingrich holding their noses and besides, catholics already broke the glass ceiling and I don't think Mormons will ever.
Romney has his problems, but he is Pee Wee Herman compared to Newt Gingrich. Compared to Gingrich, Romney is the epitome of honesty. Although Romney could have many wives, he chose one, yet the hypocrite to the nth degree made of marriage a miscarriage of religion. Just imagine, Gingrich trying to stone Bill Clinton to death for a blow job and only God knows how many Gingrich got from his harem. I'm almost sure that, knowing Gingrich as I do, I can bet that he even uses the rear entrance all the time. He has no morality, no integrity, but all is well in the Western front if the other choice is a Mormon. America does it again, professes something and delivers the opposite. Hip, Hip, hooray!
Very true! It is a shame that most "religious" people are voting the opposite only because he's a mormon....His faith is one of the most misunderstood religions out there and yet people like to shoot their mouths off rather than educate themselves......the mormons with multiple wives are considered FLDS (not normal) and only have a following of 10,000 or so.....LDS (normal Christians like every one else and who are not a cult) have a following of roughly 15 million and do tons of good in this country.
I live in NY state (which sucks) but I have mormon friends....best people I have ever known...I'm a Catholic but chose to educate myself therefore have respect for Romney...I believe he will come out on top once people get their noses out of their butts.

Respectfully, some of your lack of knowledge in the Mormon religion is showing. There are branches of the Mormon church that still allow polygamy. However, they are offshoots with very few members. Mr. Romney is a member of the main Mormon Church with over 8 million members. And they do not endorse or support polygamy. So respectfully, your comment "Although Romney could have many wives, he chose one" is not correct.
NO, ProgressiveforAmerica, you are dead wrong...I AM LDS, and I declare to you that plural marriage is NOT condoned by the true LDS faith....those who practice it are not Mormons....the practice has not been condone since the turn of the last century (1900, if that confuses you).....Any "off-shoots" of the LDS faith are no more Mormon than the Muslims are...
BTW, the current membership in the church is 14 million worldwide...fyi

Also, the reality is there is no doubt that polygamy was totally accepted, by the FULL Mormon Church until then President Woodruff in 1890 issued his divine proclamation through revelation that "The Lord showed me by vision and revelation exactly what would take place if we did not stop this practice. If we had not stopped it, you would have had no use for . . . any of the men in this temple at Logan; for all ordinances would be stopped throughout the land of Zion"
A religious cynic like myself, who by the way HAS studied the Mormon faith, might say that it was interesting timing that the "revelation" came at the same time that the United States Government was threatening to invade Utah and not grant Utah statehood if the practice did not cease.
A "cynic" can not be taught anything because, by definition, he's already made his mind up...so why would people care about anything else you may have to offer if that's your mental state? True thought and open discussion is not possible with you.
Easy Texson. I just want to explain something to ProgressiveforAmerica real quick to help clear the confusion. In the Church we are divided into geographically organized congregations. Most are called wards but the smaller ones that tend to exist where the Church hasn't quite become strong yet are called "branches". So I believe that Texson understood you to mean that the FLDS and other break offs of the Church were associated with the LDS religion simply by your usage of that word. I'm grateful that you have done your research and understand a great deal more than the average American about our faith. It makes me happy to see someone willing to state the truth about our positions even though they are not affiliated with the Church.
I would like to add that revelation is given from the Lord dependent upon the circumstances of the day. Often times it will be in response to cultural or political situations. For example, look at the vision that Peter had to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the gentiles. He was appalled by the idea, but the Lord knew that it was time that the missionary efforts of the twelve Apostles not be limited to the Jewish nation exclusively (Acts chapters 10 and 11). Even though President Woodruff had his revelation at a time when the continuation of plural marriage would have ended the progression of the Church, that does not mean that we immediately have grounds to write it off as false. The Lord is very in charge of His Church and directs it as He sees fit. When He gives that revelation is up to Him.
Part of the problem is the separation of church and state that as with The Bible, every interest, every person gets to cherry pick whatever they like or want, but separation of church and state meanst, in lay terms ""Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." That to me means they can't be prohibited from having many wives, just because the Newt Gingrichs are envious of a "Christian" harem doesn't mean, religiously speaking, that they can impose their morals on others, no they can't and Mormons can have as many wives as the Arabs. Moses, if I recall well, had two, ergo, since Christianity developed from Judaism, it is not far fetch that they, Mormons, can have many wives. Any extortion, be for political, religious or any other motive, is still extorsion and it doesn't matter who makes the extorsion, or for watever reason, it's still wrong. Of course, what people don't realize and according to the Constitution, is that that is what they practice, the government doesn't a have a say and should stay out of religion. Ditto with abortion. I'm opposed to many wives, abortion, but I don't think any person, any government should tell anybody, any organization what they can practice, believe. Once the government recognizes a religion as such, then they should stay out of their business. That is what the Constitution says, ergo, going against it for political reasons is just another violation, like abortion, like gun control, etc of the Constitution. Should we put people in jail, like the Amish, because they don't care for technology? How stupid, how asinine and how anti-constitutional, but leave it to the super hypocrites of Christianity to tell others not to have what they so much would love. They steal, lie and nobody cares, so why become so intransigent with religion? So morality lynchers can have their cake and eat it also.

As a conservative I am truly embarrassed that my state (SC) voted for a Newt who does NOT have true conservative values. Crap...he has NO values at all! If one votes for Newt, you are giving your vote to Obama! In the 4 left running the only true conservative is Rick Santorum and he can't get the vote for the perceived idea that only Newt can take down Obama. Mitt is too moderate and out of touch with the common folk, Ron Paul is too wacky and is only in it to set up his son down the road and Rick Santorium is too conservative for most and not enough $$ to really compete against the deep pockets of Newt and Romney. If only the GOP didn't seem so desperate to beat Obama that they want to put a rooster in the hen house. As a Christian I can forgive as Newt suggests but until he shows himself trustworthy I wouldn't trust him as far as I can throw his hard helmet head mistress, Calista. Most politicians have something to hide. Newt has baggage, but he has also proved that he can get things done. He is a constitutionalist and that is most important to me. He believes in Capitalism and he believes that people deserve the situation they are in in most cases. If you want the tax system to be fair, then start taxing the almost 50% of Americans that pay no federal income taxes. This system of ours can be fixed, and I think Newt is the only one who has the balls to pull it off. He is not afraid to say what he thinks, and he does not care if you like it or not.
By the way, is Pelosi on something. When she made her speech that "I have something on Newt", she looked wasted. You may be right Nancy baby.......Newt may not make president, but he made it further than you could ever make it.

The reason that 50% of Americans pay no federal income tax is because they have no money !!! After they pay sales tax, property tax, state income tax, buy a little food, pay rent and pay utilities, they are broke. They can't even buy a car or send their kids to college without going deeply into debt.
You can't get blood out of a turnip. If you need money to get this nation out of debt, you have to tax people that can afford to pay, i.e. the rich.

Yes, Romney pays his tax of 14% because the Republicans put that rate into the tax code. "I don't care if his money is in the Cayman Islands" Really? The only reason you have our money in the Cayman Islands is either you are trying to avoid taxes, doing something illegal or have partners you do not want to disclose. I looked it up just now. I think that we have changed the meaning of it over time and now use it as a derogatory reference to people we hate. As stated in the dictionary "a group or sect bound together by veneration (to venerate is 'to regard or treat with reverence; revere) of the same thing or person". As Mr Texson vocalized earlier, the real name of the Mormon Church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as documented in April of 1830. I can tell you right now, if treating Jesus Christ with reverence defines us as a cult, all I have to say is that I'm dang proud of that. If everyone else that belongs to any religion claims not to be a cult, they define themselves as a group that does not revere their God.
I am not of the morman faith but I have known many fine mormon people and they were some of the most honest fine people that I have known. I am apalled by your being so full of hate. I am a christain of the prodestant faith and you are giving mainstream christianity a black eye. Judge not - that is for God to do- not us.
