Subscribe to RSSBALTIMORE, MD -- The second-ranking House Republican suggested Friday he could step into the presidential race and make an endorsement before a nominee is decided.
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (VA), during a briefing at the House GOP's retreat this weekend in Baltimore, said that he prefers a speedy conclusion to the presidential primary.
"The more we can coalesce around a single nominee the more straightforward the choice will be for the for American people," Cantor said. "I dont know if i'll endorse before it's over. I'm leaving the option open."
Like House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), Cantor has remained officially neutral throughout the primary process. Mitt Romney has collected a number of endorsements, though, from high-profile Republicans on Capitol Hill. Newt Gingrich has also won some support, namely from fellow Georgians and a few lawmakers who had served on Capitol Hill during his speakership.
House GOP Conference Chairman Jeb Hensarling had previously been the highest-ranking member of the Republican leadership to make an endorsement; Hensarling backed a fellow Texan, Gov. Rick Perry. (Perry ended his campaign this week.)
Cantor suggested that the GOP might be anxious to coordinate its message more closely with a nominee once the race has been decided.
"Ed Gillespie told our conference that the House should be in close coordination with the nominee one that has been decided," referring to the GOP powerbroker, Gillespie, a cofounder of American Crossroads.
Cantor also noted, though, that he hadn't spoken to Romney in "a while."

Since Gingrich will not appear on the Va. primary ballot, take a guess who he will be backing? Does Flip-Flop ring a bell! What a leader, what I really mean is what a foppish follower.

I am just hoping the people in VA. have had enough of this fool and vote him out. Alas the people in Oregon are still stuck with our USELESS Greg Walden, votes against Oregons best interest every time and keeps getting elected. Look Donna, there is another saying worth remembering, and practicing, "Always tell the truth"! It is imperative that every citizen speaks their mind, based on FACTS and critical reasoning, when it comes to ANY public official who seeks to be the leader of our country! One more point about your post may possibly give you pause to think a little deeper. You stated "...anytime you liberals open your mouth...", is it only "you liberals" who are rude, or was that a Freudian Slip mistake?

I was just reading a blog here on Steven Colbert and his SC Presidential Campaign and his superPAC.
An idea - one that Mr Cantor could embrace.
Since the Supreme Court is all for corporations, maybe the US Gov could sell naming rights to the supreme court to raise money to cut the national debt? How's that for an idea? They sell naming rights for stadiums and arenas and such, why not the Supreme Court?
How about Bank of America Court? or GE Supreme Court? or The Koch Court? That last one has a ring to it.
Guy, Kantor is a wimp ass. Reminds me of the guy you'd smack around at the play ground just cause there was nothing else to do. ( in my day and age, and neighborhood, you either kicked or got ass kicked almost daily)) He is right up there for stupid actions. Not sure how people justified electing him. Hopefully ,they run his ass out of office next time around. A major factor in cointributing to ongoing problems.

Mr.Cantor should become involved in the race. He can remind voters in the Republican primaries what an excellent job Congress has been doing for them- and how you can get more of the same by voting for one of the four remaining candidates.

An endorsement from a toxic tea-partier like Mr. Cantor may not be such a good thing for the candidate during the general election.
Mr. Cantor should check with the potential endorsee in advance, lest the endorsee prefer not to be tarred by association.

I can just picture all the current crop of fools running to turn down Cantor's endorsement. One state does not a race make and Cantor is at best good for maybe two. I hope he does endorse a candidate before the race is settled and causes that candidate to lose. That would be good for a grin.
