Gingrich angrily rebuffs questions about ex-wife

At Thursday's debate Newt Gingrich slammed the news media for focusing on accusations by his ex-wife that he requested an "open marriage." NBC's Peter Alexander reports.

Newt Gingrich opened a pivotal Republican presidential debate with a fiery attack on the media for publishing stories regarding new allegations made against him by an ex-wife.

Gingrich assailed, in no uncertain terms, CNN moderator John King for opening the debate by asking Gingrich to answer allegations made by his ex-wife, Marianne, in an interview with ABC News, saying the then-speaker of the House asked to engage in an "open marriage," or else he would file for divorce.

"I am appalled that you would begin a presidential debate with a topic like that," Gingrich said, earning wild applause from the audience. "To take an ex-wife and make it two days before the primary a significant question in a presidential campaign is as close to despicable as anything I can imagine."

Gingrich disputed the allegations as "false," and his three fellow Republicans onstage resisted piling on. ("Let's get on to the real issues," former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney said.)

It was a spirited opening to a debate that capped one of the most politically tumultuous days of the 2012 cycle.

Remember when we were kids telling each other what we wanted to be when we grew up? Imagine Newt and Romney sitting together when they were six or seven:

Newt: When I grow up I want to be known as the smartest man in American politics and for being the world's best husband.

Mitt: When I grow up I want to be able to wear jeans and tell people that I am a part of the middle class and have them believe me.

Just kids sitting around wishing for the impossible.

Yeah I wonder if Obama was there if he would have said, "when I grow up I want to destroy the American economy and make the US a socialist nation reliant on welfare from the government so that I can stay in power!"

Devdoc, I'm an old man but I still remember my mother warning me about hate, fear and frustration. These are the emotions than can make a person not only bitter, but can actually shorten a person's life. Just saying.

Nice attempt at saving a poor little lost lamb Bruce, but for Devdoc, unfortunately, blinding stupidity is an even more accurate predictor of a shorter life span.

So he's pretty much screwed.

So Julia, Does it matter that Obama was friends will Bill Ayers, went to Rev Wrights church in Chicago, that he did coke, or that he wont release his college transcripts?

Does that matter?

Yes, it is those transcripts that bother all Americans the most. Except, of course, those Americans who cannot afford health care, are in fear of losing their jobs or have already lost their jobs, and those families who grieve over the loss of a loved one while fighting in useless wars. Yep, let's concentrate all of our efforts on getting a hold of those transcripts!!

Hell, I hope he does get the republican nomination, he will be so much newss fodder for the next 10 months. I personally would sit watching every moment as his hypocrisy is dissected. I personally give a crap about if he had an affair but to be a hypocrite and prosecute a man for something you are doing yourself? that is a real lack of moral fiber and backbone.

A LITTLE GIRL WAS HAVING DINNER LAST NIGHT WITH HER MOTHER WHILE THEY BOTH WERE WATCHING THE DEBATE.

THE LITTLE GIRL, ABOUT 7 YEARS OLD ASKED HER MOTHER WHAT WAS AN "AFFAIR"? MOTHER ANSWERED: AN AFFAIR IS WHEN A HUSBAND OR A WIFE CHEATS ON HIS OR HER SPOUSE AND IT IS A SIN AGAINST GOD IN A MARRIAGE.

THE LITTLE GIRL THEN ASKED: WHO IS A MISTRESS?
THE MOTHER REPLIED: A MISTRESS IS GENERALLY A WOMAN THAT HAS THE AFFAIR WITH THE HUSBAND!

THE LITTLE GIRL THEN INNOCENTLY SAID: MOTHER, WHEN I GROW UP, PLEASE DON'T LET ME MARRY ANYONE LIKE NEWT GINGRICH!!

THE AUDIENCE AT LAST NIGHT'S DEBATE,
SHOULD HAVE LISTENED TO THIS LITTLE GIRL BEFORE THEY GAVE NEWT SUCH AN

Why all the hate for Newt?

His personal life is that, personal. Some want to call him a hypocrite, by comparing him to Clinton. One BIG difference is that Newt didn't do his dirty business in the Oval Office.

In the end, whether it's Newt, Mitt, Rick or Ron - ANYONE BUT OBAMA!!!

        Reply#477 - Fri Jan 20, 2012 8:08 PM EST

So that's the significant difference? It's not the fact that Clinton did it, but that he did it in the Oval Office? Wow! All these years I thought it was a morality issue. Turns out to be merely geographical.

Sorry, but I ain't buying it.

        Do you remember going
home for Thanksgiving to see the family ? It was the first time you had seen
everyone for a long time. How excited you were to see each other again. Here's your
sister or sister in law Betty, with their chubby little 3 year old kid Newt.
You want to reach over and squish those cute little cheeks. Betty wants to show
off how Newt knows how spell words. She gives him the word cat . Newt matter of
factly rattles off c-a-t and h-a-t and a couple more three letter words and
everyone oohs and Newt proudly exclaims with his hands on his hips, "I
        could do this all day."

        You wonder what's wrong
with your four year old Jimmy who can barely sing the abc song and doesn't know
any of the sounds. Now everyone goes back to visiting, the kids back to their
toys. Suddenly , you hear a blood curdling scream in the next room. Concerned
you rush to the scene of commotion to hear Newt scream , "I want the choo
choo and he won't give it to me."

        You look to see the
culprit Jimmy nearby , Betty with a tone in her voice looks at Jimmy and you
and asks , "Why won't you share with
Newtie don't you know we need to take turns."

        Jimmy standing with his
head down says , "But I had it first and wanted to play with it. "

        You give him that look
and say , "Be nice and share with Newtie !" You can play with the
        Lincoln Logs."

Jimmy grudgingly hands over the choo choo and Newtie miraculously stops his tearless crying
instantly and angrily takes it from Jimmy . and you go back to visiting. Peace
is restored but then five minutes later you hear that familiar alarm .

        "What now Newtie
        dear ? " exclaims Betty protectively .

        " He won't let me
play with him, " sobs Newt pointing accusingly at Jimmy.

        You notice that tearless
Newtie has all the toys over by him and the only toys Jimmy has are the the
        Lincoln Logs.

        "Of course you'll
play with Newtie , won't you Jimmy?"

        "But I wanted to
build a house ." says Jimmy.

        "Can't you play
        together?" you wisely say.

        Out of the corner of
your eye you see Newtie stick his tongue out at Jimmy while Betty had her head
        turned.

        Then it all came
flooding back , the nightmare of last Thanksgiving . The temper tantrums , the
crying, the screaming, the tattling, the comparing, "He's got more ice
        cream than me!"

        Not again! You
remembered your vow from last year that would go to the in-laws house for Thansgiving if the
        monster child was here.

        "How could I have
forgotten!' You think to yourself as you fought back an impulse to reach over
and slap the smug little face of a three year old brat.

        And of course, there is
Betty and everyone else boasting about what a brilliant child the little
monster is. All you know is this is going to be one long weekend that won't end
        soon enough.

        Suddenly another scream,
" I showed him my belly button and he won't show me his!"

And so it is with us. Kill em with Kiindness
Newt, who has now turned back to his old and real ways. Attacking, anyone who
asks him about his personal life. However, he sure doesn't mind attacking
others about their personal matters. His bragging about his knowledge,
"President Obama and I will have a three hour Lincoln- Douglas debate he
can use his teleprompter and I will just use my knowledge." Attacking
anyone who may have earned more money than him.

Did you notice how Gingrich just had to
yell out before the question was asked how he had submitted his taxes one hour
before the debate and then insist that Romney show his, under the pretense of
being concerned that the voters find out something later. Talk about political
grand standing. Like he is concerned about the voters. He sure wasn't concerned
about his first wife the mother of his children when he left her on her
deathbed for another woman but he is concerned about you.

His sudden rise in the polls demonstrate
that America likes this Rush Limbaugh type impersonator for now but soon it
will grow old as more Americans see through the pompous windbags facade. His ex
wife tried to warn us about him, Rick Santorum tried to warn us about this last
night, Santorum said that Gingrich was unsteady. He was right. So unsteady in
fact that they stripped him of his post as Speaker and charged him with 84
ethics violations. Ron Paul knows about the other side of Newt all too well.
There is a reason why his former House colleagues are not supporting him.
Americans have short memories but soon those memories will come rushing back as
we have to listen to his grandiose ideas, and his marvelous accomplishments of
this so called Reagen Conservative over and over again. Reagen is probably
rolling over in his grave and we'll all be wishing we were there to join him if
we have to listen to anymore of this all knowing blowhard. I predict the
nomination of Newt Gingrich will lead to a mass exodus of Moderates from our
ranks including many Republicans who will support Ron Paul who will become a
third party candidate if Gingrich gets the nomination. At least with Paul you
        get a real genuine person.

Have you ever heard the expression , I’d rather see a sermon than
hear one any day? When it comes to Newt he preaches a good sermon but he sure
doesn’t practice what he preaches. A President should have character , ethics ,
morals. If his wives can’t trust him why should I?

Every time Newt marries his wives get better looking. Calista looks fake but at least you can look at her without gagging. That Marianne looks like a hag and is probably bitter she got dumped, she will say anything to get even. Like the old saying, nothing like a woman scorned.

Any question about character, morals, and ethics asked to a candidate for President of the US is perfectly valid when the issue has been raised by an ex-spouse. Trying to feign righteous indignation only makes him look guilty-as-charged. It might play to a South Carolina Republican-only event, but it won't fly with a national audience of all voters.

Both parties try to make themselves out to be moral, upstanding, family-oriented. There are skeletons in Republican and Democrat closets. Personally, I don't care if he wanted an open marriage. I don't care that the man has trouble with his love life. Look back in history and you'll find many presidents who had some surprising little secrets. Right now our country is spiraling downward and we need a good leader in the white house. I just hope that whoever we elect can get us where we need to be. All this other stuff takes away from the real issues. The real concerns. Let's all start focusing on what is truly important-- jobs, the economy, energy independence, just to name a few.

listen, peeps...no one should be happy about finishing first in the great state of South Carolina. SC is a place filled with hate, an in your face attitude, its residents like white males, who are Southern Baptists, period. The faces have changed and so have the times but not in SC. This state actually advertises that its one of the most dangerous places in America to live. Here's the ranking from a US finance magazine:

                              No. 4: SOUTH CAROLINA
                              Assault: #1
                              Burglary: #8
                              Murder: 7
                              Motor Vehicle Theft: #9
                              Rape: #13
                              Robbery: #16

Gang rape is a Saturday night sport...how do I know? I know a victim. When she went to the police they told her to, "hush up." Murder in SC? Yes, and I know a senior citizen that died as a result of being drugged with illegal substances...result, "HUSH UP."

The Civil War never ended in SC...the NAACP had to boycott them in order to take a racist symbol, the confederate flag down off the state house in Columbia. And they are still ignorant, bias, racist, hate filled sneaks. Don't make the mistake in believing SC represents mainstream thought in America...it does NOT.

Of course, Newt is forgiven for his transgressions...too many people in SC think they can do what ever and them ask for redemption and all is forgiven. Aside from that, he qualifies to get away with murder because he is a white male and that's all it takes....be hateful, in your face, racist and make comments on the "food stamp president" who happens to be black and you have won what small brain power residents of SC have and their minds, as simple as they are. White makes right in SC and always has. Remember, SC posts they are one of the most dangerous places in the country to live because they want Y-O-U to stay the hell out of there and let them live their backward, hateful lives.

A word to the wise is sufficient.

It is rather hilarious to see these southern evangelicals dump their ideals on morality in order to have anybody that can beat Obama.

And they had the audacity to hammer John Kerry as a "flip-flopper".

Of course it's ok to flip-flop on issues if they benefit the GOP.

Amazing he could get all those House Republicans to pass them and send them to his desk to sign. Do you have any idea of how the US Government works?

I personally wish to see Newt as the nominee...

So much of a sordid past to pick through for debate.

So, Newt was upset by the question from John King?

He didn't seem to have a problem with it when Clinton was on the recieving end of it a few years ago.

What comes around, goes around, Newt.

Should have been the 11th commandment, but I guess the book of Ecclesiastes covers it well enough...

"For everything, there is a season".

You're in season now Newt, and after ripeness, comes rot.

What IS that odor I'm starting to smell?

Sure, you'll do well in South Carolina, I mean, after all, they did continue to vote repeatedly for a racist, dixiecrat segregationist to the point of having to roll his 100 year old, bedridden ass into the Senate just to cast a vote. Some saw that as his committment to his constituents... I saw it as someone who just refused to give up power in Washington. Those people in SC are so ignorant, you could place an effigy of ol' Strom on the ballot, and he would win.

I bet Jeb is kicking his own ass for not seizing the opportunity to make a go of it this year.

I mean, after all, compared to his brother, he looks like a Rhodes Scholar.

                                        Keep the laughs coming, GOP'ers.

I can't understand why Newt's leaving all these wives. First, why on earth did they all marry him? He's gross. Must have been his money? I can't figure it out. I bet his ex-wives wouldn't have sex with him, so he had to keep getting a new one.

I can't figure out how anyone can support him in the presidential race. He's already shown his true colors. Hasn't he learned no one needs to have great character more than the President of the United States?
