Romney calls Santorum to congratulate him on Iowa results
By NBC's Kelly O'Donnell
Aides to former Sen. Rick Santorum say he just received a phone call today from Mitt Romney offering congratulations for the new result in the Iowa caucuses.
A Romney/Santorum ticket wouldn't be a bad combination to get our country back on track. We've wasted enough time listening to Obama blame somebody else for his short falls in leadership. I listen to Obama ramble on about the evil 1% then I look at the pay check that I get from the guy who is in the 1% and wonder why Obama thinks if he pays more taxes that will some how benefit me. Please someone name me one bankrupt liberal cause that didnt have to be paid for by a conservative. I have a feeling there are more people tired of hearing Obama.....
I really thought it was dumb for the networks to continually refer to Landslide Mitts and the "winner of the first two primaries.
First of all, the Iowa vote didn't count because delegates are uncommitted.
Second, by any measure it was a statistical tie and still is. A couple of dozen votes either way is meaningless except to the sound bite starved broadcast media (both Foxy and CNN etc.)
Yes another liberal here, actually Progressive. We like to talk and cite facts like the fact that President Obama helped Avert a depression, saved our Auto and Banking industry, ended the war in Iraq, got Osama Bin Laden and many other top Al Queda leaders, and is bringing us slowly out of the recession. The programs that Progressives have put out there that benifit you would be Social Security for starters, we have also protected our enviroment, your jobs, and many other things that a society and a country does. We invest in ourselves, something you and the other Flat Earth Society members can't seem to understand. Why do you think that China sends 157,000 college kids to school in the United States each year, why does China turn out 650,000 Engineers each year and India turns out 350,000 engineers, its because they know the value of paying foward to help our society as a whole. We buy the way turn out 75,000 engineers, do you know how this is going to turn out? As far as the 1%, well just look at Mitts income and the 15% he paid in taxes and who knows what you will see when he releases the whole thing. Also what did he do to grow jobs, I think the Progressives are doing more buddy. Does it bother you that 1% of our population owns more that 39% of all assets up from 37% and they control 24% of all income and they belly ache about paying a few more dollars to taxes and paying it foward. Also when 20 % of the population is classified as in poverty with the average family of 4 earning about $22k per year and its not because they dont work hard its just that the 1%er's dont want to pay them more. Have you checked out all the new jobs being created by GE and other companies in the US and paying from $12 to $19 per hour, wow one can really send their kids to college on that. So yeah I have no problem with the 1% paying more, they take more out of the total economic pie and that's a limited amoount which leaves the 99% of us scrambling after what is left. If you make more you should pay more. By the way in our recent past when the rich paid much more in taxes, they still invested in factories, plants, and other endevors. The only difference they are investing in China now and keeping their 2 TRILLION in the banks overseas, they are really job providers...Yep
I think that you need to recheck your statistics if the average family of 4 is only earning 22K which would put the average family and the middle class smack into the middle of the poverty level...Perhaps you just worded your sentence the wrong way and gave an erroneous impression, but recent employment statistics showed the average American family of 4 was actually more than double that figure for average yearly earnings....You also have to remember that it is an average figure, and certain regions of the country are significantly higher or lower depending upon population density and cost of living issues. Salaries are keyed to the costs in the area in which the business operates which is why a teacher in one state might only make about 32K while one from New York City or LA might be making 52K. The whole problem with this discussion is that you are using averages to upset people. I firmly believe that we need to eliminate the notion of anybody paying more taxes-rich or poor. Rather we need to put government on an extremely strict financial diet. Government has to learn that it isn't an ever growing, unending pot of revenue....One of the hugest problems we have right now has nothing to do with the rich not paying their fair share, but rather has to do with the high number of unemployed who will be paying no income tax at all because they haven't earned anything...yet they, by necessity have to collect benefits, many of which are funded by tax dollars. Factor in the number of abandoned and foreclosed properties which are also not generating the usual tax revenues, or those folk behind on property taxes who haven't actually lost the property. Well how much does that come out to?
Well, it looks like Willard didn't make history after all by being the only non-incumbant to win both Iowa and New Hampshire.
This week is just not a good one for Willard. Perhaps he'll feel better after a quick trip to the Caymans to count his tax-free money he has hoarded over there.
Gee, apparently the exit polls I, a resident of Iowa, heard reported were wrong then. Odd I did not hear anything close to the numbers you claim for Ron Paul. The exit poll reports I heard reflected Santorum as the winner state wide, Romney here locally. Sorry, Egilman, but Paul did NOT win Iowa or even place second. He has a strong, loyal following but the percentage number of followers remain roughly the same as they were in 2008.
I know you live in Iowa and will defend the sanctiity of the Iowa Caucus. I assume that you primarily vote Democratic, so I understand that also, but truth is truth.
I still find it fascinating how the liberals can't see beyond 10 minutes into the future. The Newt wife story won't mean a hill of beans. It will not resonate and I'll bet the only ones that watch it will be liberals who won't vote for him anyway. We all know that his ex-wife will do everything to hurt him, pretty much the same way any divorcee would. She's probably making a pretty penny from the interview. In two weeks it will be over and it will be old news once again.
still find it fascinating how the liberals can't see beyond 10 minutes into the future
Oh, you mean like the teapublican House when they cut the debt ceiling deal last August that is going to result in that nasty reduced defense spending they all hate to see...
Or McConnell's statement about their only job is to see that Obama is a "one-term President" - not governing our country and enacting relevant legislation that is coming back to haunt the GOP...
Or the GOP/TEA decision for temporary instead of long term spending/debt ceiling deals so they now have to address it before the 2012 election and find themselves in a trick bag...
or Do you need more true examples of your reflection brian?
Truth is YOU are attempting to assign TEA-GOP party failures to President Obama and the Democrats.
Sorry... not going to work this time. Voters WILL receive the truth in 2012 instead of unilateral spin, lies, talking points, MIS-INFORMATION and sales pitches the wingnuts used in 2000, 2004, and 2010.
Oh, you mean like the teapublican House when they cut the debt ceiling deal last August that is going to result in that nasty reduced defense spending they all hate to see...
All to see? You mean like defense spending cuts aren't part of reducing the debt of this nation? I don't know what world you live in stupid, but there's plenty of waste in the defense department that needs to be cut. Maybe YOU don't see it for what it is.
Or McConnell's statement about their only job is to see that Obama is a "one-term President" - not governing our country and enacting relevant legislation that is coming back to haunt the GOP...
Seems to me that since an unvetted president was elected as president, the republicans have good cause. Tell me how much vetting occurred during Obama's run up to president. Do YOU know who this man is? Do YOU know what he stands for? It's pretty obvious to me considering what he's done to help destroy this country one little bite at a time. Maybe you want to see this country's Constitution shredded like is slowly happening with Obama's executive orders.
Or the GOP/TEA decision for temporary instead of long term spending/debt ceiling deals so they now have to address it before the 2012 election and find themselves in a trick bag...
Or, they could just not raise the debt ceiling like YOUR president wants to happen. Force the government to do the right thing... live within their means. Might backfire on the wrong person if it's played correctly. It's the president asking for the debt ceiling to be raised. The house can reject it and then the Senate can override it... you know, the Senate that has a democrat majority. Conservatives and many independents want to see the budget reduced and not increased.
or Do you need more true examples of your reflection brian?
So far you haven't provided one example that has any weight. Is this the best you can do?
Truth is YOU are attempting to assign TEA-GOP party failures to President Obama and the Democrats.
Truth is, you are trying to blame the TEA-GOP party for all the failures of Obama and the democrats. It works both ways stupid.
Sorry... not going to work this time. Voters WILL receive the truth in 2012 instead of unilateral spin, lies, talking points, MIS-INFORMATION and sales pitches the wingnuts used in 2000, 2004, and 2010.
It seems you have the wrong opinion of what people actually believe. The liberals stand pretty much alone in their trashing of everything anti-liberal. You don't speak for independents or conservatives. Your old talking points carry no weight except to liberals.
Just to refresh your memory and prove my point, the following is from this vine back in Nov.:
Republicans to reconfigure US budget cuts
Reuters By Vicki Allen
U.S. Republicans will try to spare defense programs by reconfiguring the $1.2 trillion in spending cuts that are to be triggered starting in 2013 by the collapse of a congressional deficit-cutting committee, a leading Republican senator said Sunday.
Now, in true Romney flip-flop fashion YOU say, in response to my statement:
Oh, you mean like the teapublican House when they cut the debt ceiling deal last August that is going to result in that nasty reduced defense spending they all hate to see...
All to see? You mean like defense spending cuts aren't part of reducing the debt of this nation? I don't know what world you live in stupid, but there's plenty of waste in the defense department that needs to be cut. Maybe YOU don't see it for what it is.
And you went through the whole tirade in #3.6 above as a defense to the reflection I pointed out?
(shaking my head sadly) I guess you are what the ignore button is for....
Really too bad that TRUTH and facts upset you so when they do NOT jive with the RNC talking points and half-truths....
For as much as the liberals wanted Romney to win, so Obama could defeat him.... I think Mitt is tumbling down the rabbit hole. He's going to hit rock bottom before it's all over.
It's funny though... for all this hubbub about the republican candidates, nobody ever brought up Obama's relationship with Bill Ayers and Bernadette Dorn... two known terrorists... The double standard is alive and well in America.
They are both still in the race so they can get matching funds from the taxpayers ..so they can retire their campaign debts ...one last knife in the back of the tax payer..for their not winning
If I were Santorum, I wouldn't take the call. Let that pompous windbag twist in the wind. I'm sure his concession was as 'heartfelt' as anything else he says. Maybe he should spend some of his money for an upgrade to his Empathy Chip because his is a cheap foreign one.
With the Cayman Islands story breaking for Mitt, one of Newt's x-wives spilling more beans, Santorum's rigid faith and general creepy weirdness, you can't help wondering what happens if GOP voters stay home. I heard chatter again this morning that people were asking Christie to run, telling him that it's not too late!
I thought it was "You fix-a-these"!...and you know you are probably the only one who will bother to watch what I thought was a pretty clear, fair and balanced presentation of a complicated issue...
James Smart observes that the New York Public Library defines "Kemo Sabe" as Soggy Shrub. His entertaining collection is appropriately titled "Soggy Shrub Rides Again and other improbabilities."
Mitt Romney, a man that spends $3000 dollars on a hair cut, a true one percenter who utterly despises the other 99% of the very population he says he wants to lead, a man who used every unethical and grey area of our lobbyist written tax and income laws to amass more than 1/4 billion bucks, mind you he did not earn a damn dime of it, he legally stole it from people of lesser means, a man devoid of integrity and honor, the poster child for everything that is evil about what U.S. Capitalism has been allowed to become, a man who thinks corporations are better than people, above the laws that real people have to abide by, this man is who the Republican Party thinks should be Commander In Chief. The Republican Party has always relied on the American People to cut their own throats, and have been very successful in the art of deception and mis-direction but even a pessimist like me has to wonder if they can pull off a Mitt Romney Presidential victory, that my friend may be a bridge a little too far.
Kinda lets the air out of Romney's sails. When will this primary be over? There three trying to garner votes for the nomination. Judson Phillips boldly declared, “The Tea Party will never rally behind Mitt Romney.” The "Anyone but Romney" crowd have help splinter the once proud party of Lincoln. I'll bet Lincoln's turning in his grave. Then there is the GOP, the party of Teddy Roosevelt, which was once progressive to the point of "Trust Busting" and increased regulation of business. 'Ol Teddy had his head on straight and was knowledgeable and creative. Now this portion has squandered their opportunity to effect great legislation. Then there is the Republican section, once proud Reagan-ites whom have been seriously compromised by the other radical divisions and therefore failed to produce any jobs legislation, which they ran on in the 2010 election.
Vote for "Herman" Colbert "Cain". He is the real con-conservative candidate and has the most famous SuperPAC. There are no skeletons he is not aware of in his closet.
Here is the text of Mitts response: Dear Rick Congratulations on finally deciding to get out of the race. Its important that a candidate relate to the common voter..they must feel comfortable with him or her and know that whoever they nominated understands their plight..You dont and i do..
I am going to win in South Carolina..bet you ten thousand dollars..
The best thing that could ever happen is to have the Republican party and the crack pot conservatives go the way of the Whigs..We could have Democrats and Progressives and forget the party of obstructionism and nay saying..
So Rick won Iowa after all! Will this change the game for Mitt? Hmmm we will see, but I can tell you that Mitt doesn't have this all sown up like he thought. Pres Obama will get another 4yrs to the White House, but America needs to realize that the problems that we face have been comimg over the last 30 yrs, since I was a small child so what makes anyone think that we could fix 30 years of finanical issues would be solved in 3 years? I am watch the news, and the auto bail out has worked. GM is now the top car makers in the world again and have paid off their loan in full with interest and ahead of schedule.
I for one am a full time college student finishing my Masters and my Doctoriate starts in June, I have a 22yr old son who is a full time college student and a 7yr old daugher, because of Obamacare I was able to add my son back on my insurance and can keep him there until he is 26yrs old. I can also claim him on my income taxes as a dependent child which helps on the amount of refund that I get at the end of the year and believe me every little bit helps, I am divorced so I am a single mother again.
I lost my job when my contract ended 2 years ahead of time, but I am getting unemployement and yes I get food stamps right now, they should be used when you need them, but 60% of Americans are on EBT and to say that black Americans make up most of that is unfair considering that black americans only make up 13% of the United States and this was as of the 2010 census.
These posts always include arguments b/w the left and right, and this always seems to come down to the argument as to whether or not it's better to have everyone more equal, but splitting a smaller pot, or have most people better off, but with a wider gap betwen top and bottom. These are the only two possibilities in the real world. Humans are a jealous lot, and they, often, would rather have much less, themselves than see any one much more successful - and that's just the way it is. This is a case where you ,absolutely, can't have it both ways. THe Santorum win is a surprise. Congrats to Mr. Santorum.
Notice Soc.Sec. and the Military are NOT on this list. These are all the programs that the new Republican House has proposed cutting. Read to the end.

Sounds like a Romney slam to me. He woke up this morning and Iowa slammed him to the ground. Couldn't have happened to a better person.
A Romney/Santorum ticket wouldn't be a bad combination to get our country back on track. We've wasted enough time listening to Obama blame somebody else for his short falls in leadership. WOW Latest Concession call/speech in history of the Iowa Caucus!
But it served his purpose, he got to "Claim" he was the winner.
Officially Santy is the winner, the exit polls said Dr Paul Won 31% to 24%
The Gop will Cheat to keep Dr Paul out of the nomination!

And an article on OpenChannel about Malibu Mitt being on the Board of directers @ Marriot, when Kickback's were Paid.
Dauuuuuuuuuuuum, this is gettin to be Fun, Fun, Fun!
Oh No Pen24, tell me you did'nt go there"Teleprompter"!

Michelle and Herman are still on the ballot. It's not like not having any choices. Give Michelle a big win and she will gladly come out of retirement.
Then there is always Donald. The GOP has got a deep bench.
They are both still in the race so they can get matching funds from the taxpayers ..so they can retire their campaign debts ...one last knife in the back of the tax payer..for their not winning
The bright side is that a vote for Cain is a vote for Colbert...
There is nothing illegal about having a bank account in the Caymans. Nothing at all.
I have had one for years. Barclays Affiliate First Carribean
I also own a condo there, that is legal too.
If I were Santorum, I wouldn't take the call. Let that pompous windbag twist in the wind. I'm sure his concession was as 'heartfelt' as anything else he says. Maybe he should spend some of his money for an upgrade to his Empathy Chip because his is a cheap foreign one.
I'm trying to think of something that matters less than this....nope, I'm stumped!
The latest diatribe from the Jersey PoleDancer maybe.
The Spankster's answer in Question form.
Anything from BrianB, JoAnna Smiff .
Occupy SoggyBottom!
Does this mean that the electile dysfunction will continue on into Florida?
Yes Devie, Romney got Santorumed.
You said it, Devie and Tom.

And both are right from their perspectives ... perhaps we can included the saying of a Greek tailor- "Euripides, Eumenides."
I thought it was "You fix-a-these"!...and you know you are probably the only one who will bother to watch what I thought was a pretty clear, fair and balanced presentation of a complicated issue...
I don't recall why Judy left CNN but she is certainly making the most of it over at PBS.
"The Story of English" was a favorite documentary from way back.
CNN "dumped" her because they felt she was too old...and their ratings have just skyrocketed, haven't they?
Now no one is going to click on your link.
What you mean "now"? Kimosabe...;-)
James Smart observes that the New York Public Library defines "Kemo Sabe" as Soggy Shrub. His entertaining collection is appropriately titled "Soggy Shrub Rides Again and other improbabilities."
If you know the book, you probably know the "joke" I was paraphrasing...Thanks for making this place more interesting...
Guess you dont like vulture capitalism..guess that makes us communists in the eyes of the righties!!
Yawn!!
well brian at least you admit your brain is sleeping...
Mitt is practicing for Nov. 7th when he calls President Obama and congratulates him on a landslide victory.
good point...
Santorum won by 38 points in Iowa?
Wow!!!!
Santorum's momentum will evaporate in Florida
Good riddance to ya PP head
Yep!!! Then it will be what Ron Paul and Newt want!!! An attack on the great Corporate Riader Mr. Romney!!!
Raider I meant to type.
Vote for "Herman" Colbert "Cain". He is the real con-conservative candidate and has the most famous SuperPAC. There are no skeletons he is not aware of in his closet.
Here is the text of Mitts response:
Dear Rick
Congratulations on finally deciding to get out of the race. Its important that a candidate relate to the common voter..they must feel comfortable with him or her and know that whoever they nominated understands their plight..You dont and i do..
I am going to win in South Carolina..bet you ten thousand dollars..
Mitt
Santorum.
