Republican presidential candidate, Texas Gov. Rick Perry pauses while announcing he is suspending his campaign and endorsing Newt Gingrich, Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, in North Charleston, S.C.
Updated at 12:30 p.m. ET
Texas Governor Rick Perry announced Thursday morning that he is dropping out of the presidential race and is endorsing Newt Gingrich for the Republican nomination.
"There is no viable path forward for me," he told supporters on Thursday. "I gave fully of myself for a cause worthy of this country," he added. Perry said it was time for him to make a "strategic retreat."
Spokesman Ray Sullivan told reporters after the announcement that money was a factor; that the campaign had gone through "the bulk of our friends." He added that Perry is not yet ruling out running for re-election as governor or making another play for the White House in four years.
Of Gingrich, Perry said Thursday, "Newt is not perfect, but who among us is?" Perry continued, "There is forgiveness for those who seek God." He applauded Gingrich as "a conservative visionary who can transform our country."
The former House speaker watched Perry's speech from his campaign bus, parked outside of Beaufort, S.C. He said he was "honored and humbled" by the endorsement. He called Perry a "great patriot."
Gingrich's candidacy has been boosted by strong debate performances, with another debate scheduled for Thursday. But he's likely to receive more unflattering attention when ABC News airs an interview with his second wife, Marianne Gingrich. In the interview, Marianne Gingrich says Gingrich asked her for an "open marriage" in which he could have both a wife and a mistress, and she refused.

Perry's withdrawal and endorsement of Gingrich is a further sign that he's emerging as the main rival to Romney, who has failed to persuade many Republicans of his conservative credentials.
Perry had faced calls to drop out of the race to compel conservative voters, whose support has been divided among several conservative candidates, to rally behind Gingrich in hopes of stopping Romney. Recent polls show Gingrich gaining steam heading into the South Carolina primary, but he still trails Romney by about 10 percentage points.
Texas Governor Rick Perry holds a press conference in North Charleston, S.C., to announce he is dropping his presidential bid and endorsing Newt Gingrich.
Saturday's contest has been seen as the pivotal battle in the race, following what had initially been declared a narrow victory for Romney in Iowa, the first nominating contest, and a solid Romney win in last week's New Hampshire primary. Since 1980, no Republican has won the presidential nomination without a victory in the state.
But Republican officials said Thursday that Rick Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator, edged the former Massachusetts governor in Iowa by 34 votes, though no winner was declared because some votes remain missing.

Perry entered the race last August to great fanfare and high poll numbers. But his standing quickly fell after a series of campaign blunders. During a nationally televised debate in early November, he could not remember the name of the third Cabinet department he had pledged to eliminate. "Oops," he told the audience. He later admitted of the gaffe, "I stepped in it."
Perry finished fifth in both Iowa and New Hampshire and, at one at one point said he was going to go back to Texas to reassess his path forward, but then headed to South Carolina instead.

The Texas governor's decision comes after a disappointing campaign and just days before the critical South Carolina primary, NBC News' Carrie Dann reports.
Perry made his announcement to withdraw from the race just hours before Thursday night's GOP debate. He was joined on stage by his wife Anita and son, Griffin, and stressed that the Republican Party "transcends any one individual."
He said that "the campaign has never been about the candidates," and lamented, "a calling never guarantees a particular outcome."

Rick Perry 2012 - "Oops!"
Then there were 4...
I'm going to miss Slick Rick. He was funny.
Feisty, It's really ony a 2 man race now.
Daily Show won't be as much fun now.
try this on for size, whackos...

Lies! Vote Herman Cain in S. Carolina.
Once Palin endorsed Newt he knew his campaign was over. Smart man.
Gary Johnson and Ron (I used to be a Lbertarian before I got Presidential aspirations) Paul?
Bye, bye Mr. American Pie.
The amusement level of the primaries is beginning to fade as the comic relief cadidates get thrown under the bus. The New Apostolic Reformation, C Peter Wagners bunch wasnt as much a factor as they had deluded themselves into thinking they would be. I assume they will through their support behind santorum now but he seems to be lagging way behind even after the other wingnut coalition endorsed him on Saturday.
It has been a hoot to watch but now the reality that one of the final 3 con men (Paul excluded) will get the nomination has my BP up just a bit, the Republican establishment wants President Obama out bad enough they will have no qualms about rigging the election in favor of their puppet. I truly fear that no matter who the American people choose in November, the cadidate that corporate America wants is the one we will end up with.
@Ruken: Herman Cain has really gone through an amazing makover!
I'll vote for any candidate who ends SuperPACs. But wait, there are none!
Ask your favorite party's congressman: Why do you not make sure there are people working in America, but the moment a lobbyist walks up to you and gives you a $94 million contribution to censor the internet, you are SUDDENLY ALL INTERESTED?
Well, I guess that tosses NBC's new poll into the trash. Yeah, Perry only had 4% but where that 4% goes could be important in this GOP race.
We all knew he would get out after SC, but right in the middle? Two days before the vote?
It's looking more and more like Romney will have a very narrow win in SC and that's bad for the Massachusetts Moderate because it points up his weakness in the South and he HAS TO HAVE THE SOUTH if there is to be any hope of a win in the Fall.
Now he has one thing going for him. He's white. As has clearly been shown, the South still has very strong prejudices regarding African Americans and MANY Southern voters will vote AGAINST the President simply because of his bi-racial heritage. But the evangelicals will have to swallow hard, hold their noses and close their eyes in order to vote a Mormon into the White House. Some, perhaps many, will not be able to do it. God love 'em.
This is going to be a VERY interesting weekend.
GEEEEZ, it must SUCK to be Mitt Romney.
Obama/Biden 2012
Hey reality - stop drinking the repub koolaid. President Obama isn't anti business - even Bain supports him! Hahahahahahahahahaha! What other lies do you believe that you are being fed by your repub clowns?
Now there's only one idiot from Texas to worry about ... but not too big of a worry ... most see the loose screws falling out of that candidate ...............
Woohoo! The Departments of Education, Commerce, and uh, that third one I can't remember (Doh!)are partying hardy right now.
Good news for Gingrich and Santorum vs Romney. Every bit helps.
I know right! He's so much more attractive now. Might make it easier for women to buy into his stimulus package.
Glad he finally dropped out, we all new it was coming..

"Once Palin endorsed Newt he knew his campaign was over. Smart man."
What have I missed? When did Newt terminate his campaign?
If Palin's endorsement Produces any positive results, it will say a lot about the dim-witted TeaOP electorate. I can't imagine that even Neut wants her stamp of approval.
But a surprising number of delusionals still think the doddering old fool of an isolationist conspiracy nut is the Second Coming. Amazing.
Here's a little more detail on the Staples story for those who are too busy to click --

I really think it is unbecoming and hypocritical of conservatives to accuse President Obama of some kind of wrongdoing for doing nothing more than is business-as-usual when they do it.
And this is part of the story of GS Industries, one of many companies that Bain Capital ran into the ground while extracting huge personal profits.
Randi Rhodes told this story in its entirety the other day, and it's chilling. Ultimately, after Bain threw the company into bankruptcy, and threw all of its employees into unemployment, what was left of the company was purchased at bargain prices by someone who understood the steel business, and the company is thriving once again.
But someone needs to tell me why, if Bain managers were so GOOD, they would have extracted $50 million for themselves while the company was teetering on the brink of bankruptcy.
What business school would teach that the way to shore up a failing company is to rob it?
As a fellow Texan, take heart Rick Perry. After George Bush, you should have learned a slick southern drawl, one hand on the bible and another on special interests and big banks aint gonna get you no where. Also, them tin foil hats and faux news thats dear to folks down here just hurt "our" cause....I need a moment folks...I need a cold beer
and just before he was gonna oficially declare war on the Federal Government!! (the whole thing mind you so he don't have to remember any of them pesky little agency names....)
I expect Blingrich to carry on the battle for all knuckledraggers and billybobs everywhere!
The Evangelical Right got to him.......Big surprise......NOT....They had the big meeting last weekend with their BIG PLAN !! How much money does it take to pay a candidate to get out of the BIG RACE! WOW
Jesus' top candidates are falling by the wayside.
Of course, Perry will just view it as "God's will", despite viewing his running (and 'being' President) as...
... wait for it...
... "God's will."
Moron. Good riddance.
He 'paid his dues' by exposing himself to the 'vetting process' which allowed them to run again with success, just like most former successful politicians, like Reagan, Bush Sr., etc.
In 8 years, he'll be able to try again.
I kinda liked his idea on congress...........cut their pay and send'em home. They can't screw it up if they aren't there!!
The old man is better then the young fool we have in office now.
Rick,
Have a save trip back to Texas, and please!! once you have reaccessed everything stay in Texas!!
Since Newt is getting Sarah Palins vote in SC He has most likely already been declared the winner.
Does anyone else remember when Newt was charged with Ethics violations?? Just asking because everybody seems to had their brains scrubbed of that event in history.....
If you have been charged with ethics violations and booted out of the speakership are you really the best person to be running for the highest office in the land?? Once unethical always unethical!!!!
Thanks Perry, you did the right thing. NOW! if we can get the remaining three to drop out, maybe, just maybe, the GOP will seek someone in this great Nation that will think of the People and returnn the USA TO GREATNESS. The Congress of the United States is ruining our economy, our leadership abilities and making the United States the laughing stock of the world. Surely, there is some great person out there that can take over the GOP and work for the PEOPLE as a whole. The ree clowns left are just that.
I'm actually a bit sad about Perry leaving the race. He was the perfect candidate for today's GOP.
No Perry? No Cain? No Bachmann? Why have all the candidates who best fit the current Republican Party dropped out?
No loss--one more oxygen thief on the sidelines.
Does this mean that the "true conservatives" will gather around Newt or the Other Rick?
I live in a Super Tuesday state, and on the radio this morning I heard an ad for Gingrich from a Super PAC supporting him. Maybe Newt plans on staying around for awhile.
Oh No!!! I am going to miss our village idiot. He was such fun to watch (even if he occasionally created an international incident by calling people/countries terrorists, a day after America installs missile defence shields in their country) .. Good Bye and good luck Ricky. Please.. Please run again in 2016.
BTW, what the heck is in the water in Texas? Folks from that state are scary. They even have the same "what are you talking about Willis" look when they are "thinking". LOL
jkatze,
What are you talking about??? Perry dropped out not Newt...Glad you read the article. Reading 101 may be in your future??GEEZZZ
Many people who watch this video change their vote - includes smoking gun info. that will be a factor in Newts dropping out of the race? Perry endorses Newt lol.
http://tekgnosis.typepad.com/tekgnosis/2012/01/ron-paul-many-people-who-watch-this-whole-video-change-their-vote.html
I bet most people that support the current president are the same people that thing you buy one item and get one free.
Man....for as much vitrile and hatred the right has for Obama, you'd think even they would be able to come up with a better crop of candidates than this crop of $hit.
I can't think of one person I know that is actually enthusiastic with Romney as their candidate.
Like I said shortly after he jumped in the race, Perry was never was a serious candidate. No way he would ever get the GOP nomination.
However, it has been very entertaining reading and watching all the libs getting worked up over him.
@Ruken: Herman Cain for President of the United States of South Carolina!! A vote for Herman is a vote against super pacs and our system as we know it. Herman, Herman, Herman...........lol Wish I lived in SC right now.
So now Corporate Romney is left, .Evil Newt, and Extremist Santorum who will the media choose...obvioulsy Romney!
They will still ignore Ron Paul....because is not corporate funded, nor is he corruptable. So they will ignore him to save their dirty money (at our expense)
The GOP says that Ron Paul will eventually hand the vote to Obama, however, it IS the GOP who would rather Obama win instead of Ron Paul, because they are corrupt themselves, and if Ron Paul were to win, he would end their retirement plan, while saving America's. But if the Obama were to win, then all the corruption would still continue, as if Romney, Newt or Santorum were in.
So the GOP wont say it, but they dont care who wins either! As long as it isnt Ron Paul.
As for me, being an average citizen....we need Ron Paul. Someone mentions Romney/Christie....dont believe what you hear about Christie.....i have a friend who works in a State facitily...Christie claimed to get rid of 4 directors to save money (sounds great)....only to replace the 4 with 6 of his friends! he is the same bullsh*t as the rest!
Corporate romney... maybe. Evil Newt ... for sure.
It's all about Herman Cain in South Carolina baby. WOOO!
You see that 'Mitt the Ripper' TV ad? I about died. Funniest sh*t I've seen in awhile.
Doc, I am sure the beer sales will be brisk in Texas to dull the pain on both accounts. Those Bar b ques are out of this world and beer makes them even better. His last Gaff really was a big one with Turkey !
mqira says, "It IS the GOP who would rather Obama win instead of Ron Paul"
A couple of weeks ago Joe Scarborough was saying that certain Republican insiders would rather lose to Obama than win with Romney. Why? Because they think Romney will be a "big government conservative" like W. Bush and would rather lose than have the GOP's name degraded by a Romney presidency.
And I've also heard that the Republican establishment will do anything to deny Ron Paul or Newt Gingrich the nomination.
My point? No matter who wins a lot of conservatives will be unhappy. I guess this is often the case for both parties, but it seems especially pronounced this election cycle.
I'll miss the hilarity of Rickie Boy's ignorance on the National stage! I won't miss it for long though since he actually runs the State that I live in with that same ignorance! How did this guy get elected for any office higher than Dog Catcher? It is true that money will buy you anything!
off topic Newt has done a good job to get the media to focus on Willard's (Bain & taxes)
What happened to Newt's release of Fannie Mae papers? Lobbying.
Hey Perry, Now you can go back to Texas and finish destroying your State, Good riddance !
Newton is AHEAD in the latest poll!
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/sc/south_carolina_republican_presidential_primary-1590.html
As I said earlier, Santorum will be in the single digits in SC and go home with his BIG IOWA WIN and leave the stage to Newton...Oh, to be a fly on the wall at team Romney right now!
So the cowboy saw the writing on the wall and a campaign aide had to read it to him. Thanks for the yuks, dude! Ain't gonna miss ya!
So this is a headline...Why?
Greenwood10
You mean the 2 guys BEHIND Ron Paul in the polls?
dangerfield - I'm still stunned by that knowledge bomb you dropped yesterday.
Romney passed legislation that bought people on welfare cars? And he is running as a Republican?
Add to that the bit about a record number of pardoned murderers and rapists under Romney and it looks like the Republican party is trying to pick the candidate that embodies every attack Republicans have launched against Democratic presidential candidates going back 30 years. It makes me wonder if any of the sputtered outrage Republicans have voiced over the last three decades was real or if it was all an act.
pc, I believe that is the video I watched a while back. If it is, I will never vote for Paul.At one point in the video there is a visual of words. The main thing I got from it was, reduce taxes until there is no IRS. The first question I thought of was, how can a president get paid if there are no taxes?
"The old man is better then the young fool we have in office now."
You righties have just about scraped the bottom of the anti Obama barrel if this is all you can come up with.
As Frank Romano used to say, "Holy Crap!"
Poll: Gingrich takes the lead in South Carolina
ATLANTA — The seesaw race for Republican presidential nominee has tipped again, giving Newt Gingrich the lead in South Carolina.
In a poll conducted Wednesday night by InsiderAdvantage/Majority Opinion Research for The Augusta Chronicle, Gingrich reversed the momentum of Mitt Romney, who had an expanding lead in the same poll Sunday night.
Gingrich’s 32 percent to Romney’s 29 percent puts the two inside the poll’s 3.8 percent margin of error, but the 11-point lead Romney held in the Sunday evening survey has evaporated. Romney’s strength had been building after wins in the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary.

VIA TPM:
Newt Gingrich asked his ex-wife to agree to an “open marriage” so he could carry on an affair, Marianne Gingrich told ABC News in an exclusive interview set to air Thursday evening.
“He was asking to have an open marriage, and I refused,” Marianne said. He asked “that I accept the fact that he has somebody else in his life.” According to excerpts of the interview, Marianne expressed her “shock” at Newt Gingrich’s behavior, including learning that his affair with his current wife Callista took place “in my bedroom in our apartment in Washington.” Marianne told Esquire magazine in 2010 that Newt Gingrich asked her to tolerate the affair, and that she refused.
So long, Governor Goodhair! After the disastrous Bush presidency, I guess people figure one idiot ex-governor from Texas is enough!
OK! Lemme see now. If 2 LOSERS (palin - perry) endorse a third LOSER, (newtie) can the tea guys somehow turn that around into what they call a winner?? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!
Well I'm personally pulling for Santorum.
Someone that is that anti-gay HAS to have some Larry Craig-like skeletons in their closet (they always do).
(Tebows next to office chair) Please, please, please!
This is too bad. Newt is following McCain's Sarah Palin strategy of pandering to the base which would have voted for him anyway at the expense of the independents who could get him elected. Bummer.
It's amazing how much Perry reminds us of Reagan....just have a look at this photo of "Dutch" when he was a younger man....very similar looking:
http://www.latimes.com/includes/projects/hollywood/portraits/ronald_reagan.jpg
Of course Rick acts more like the much older version of Ronald, which explains his many publicly embareassing gaffes....makes you think of early on-set Alzheimer's....just like the Gipper.
The GOP is now down to a "mortician controlled cyborg" who's been dead at least 8 years and never has functioned properly, and a hybrid porcine disguised as a humanoid holding God in a "headlock" all the while hunting another piece of ass among the evangelicals. What to do? What to do?! Pay that asylum more money and get behind Santorum and hope for manna from heaven, or if they're out, then hell.
Allmills, The biggest village Idiot is still in the White house, so You ought to get plenty of entertainment. I believe He isn't from Texas, but up North in Illinois, a really well run state. Ask Him how many states are in the union, that ought to give Your Yankee Arse something to laugh about !
What a joke that step-down speech was.
Best thing to come out of Texas? I-10.
It's easy to get behind Gingrich... there's just so much room back there.
Meanwhile, back in Washington, the Democrats are still spending 1 1/4 TRILLION per year in the red. Of course Obama's followers get down on their knees to pray to him.
With Perry out and his contingency backing Newt, it may be the end for Liberal turned Moderate Romney. Now I can't wait to see Newt destroy Obama in the debates. He can't run on his dismal record or the failed policies of his administration and a lot of the independents quit drinking the Kool Aid a while ago. Once Newt is elected, we can get our Country back on track.
this may be the only time I support Feisty but her comment should not be collapsed
@Nisl
mqira says, "It IS the GOP who would rather Obama win instead of Ron Paul"...
I wasn't aware that is was publicly stated....Thanks for the info!
Dr. Paul has already stated that if elected he won't take a paycheck higher than the median wage (around 35,000)
and there are other fees other than income tax that would generate "income" for the government. You have tariff, excise taxes, user fees, highway fees, etc etc..
issues2000.org/2012/Ron_Paul_Tax_Reform.htm
Scott-1935555 - Oh Right!!! And the Politicians from Chicago are any better??? Need I even go there? Can you spell Corruption much less say it?
Perry used the, "Take our country back" line in his speech.
I really do feel sorry for the shallow people that think their country has been taken away from them.
Another empty repube candidate going home. Theres not a repube candidate with the countries best interest at hand, out of the whole lot of them. Since Nixon, there hasn't been a worth while repube candidate in office or even running, except for Huntsmen and he was sent home, due to toxic politics. I wonder who Huntsmen will vote for? I betcha its Obama, yep you betcha. Well anyhow, good luck to the people of texas, because Rich (Dick to a lot of people) Perry is coming back home, to ruin texas and all its people even more now.
Mitt Romney doesn't "have to have the south" to win the nomination. Assuming he wins the nomination, The south will fall into line backing this guy up over Obama. I live in Mississippi, and most of my friends and family have the "anything but Obama" mindset.
Would they prefer someone besides Mitt? Absolutely.
Do they prefer Mitt over Obama? Of course.
I know, I know. An ignorant way to vote.
This came as a obvious shock to the Gingrich campaign, who were very embarrassed to receive his endorsement...... They forgot to say that part.
There's still Ron Paul, but the establishment is against him. They're doing everything in their power to keep him from being elected.
Mike S.- "I know, I know. An ignorant way to vote."
South - Ignorant ... hmmm - dead on!!!
Old beliefs and feelings are hard to break ... it's too bad we all suffer because of them ... and ignorance is oh so easily taken advantage of ..... so so sad!!!!!
Maybe the republicans should raise taxes. You know the taxes that should have been increased when they started the wars. Just like in the history of our nation, lawmakers in the past were too smart to give tax cuts during war time. But not the republicans, they just brought out the republican credit card. Republicans could write a book "How to bury your country under debt while pretending to care."
But this group, they voted for a huge deficit created with tax cuts and now want to blame everyone but themselves for the deficit.
Don't worry they pretend to care, right now Romney has a tax plan to raise your taxes to pay for more tax cuts for the rich. Rich before country. Must make republicans proud.
Your hero Ron Paul voted to not increase minimum wage for the people, but he managed to vote for every tax cut no matter what it did to our deficit. Ron can sure whine about the deficit now, after he voted to create it. Ron even voted to protect the special tax cuts for the billion dollar oil companies. Just another vote by Ron Paul to increase the deficit.
Obama/Biden 2012
All of you who think Newt will make President - keep dreaming. Obama will eviscerate him in the debates. And, Romney can only talk if he is fed all the questions ahead of time. All of you who think Democrats and Independents "bow" down to Obama? What have you been drinking? We respect him as President and are amazed at all he's been able to accomplish considering the obstructionists he has had to work with - and the total mess Bush left! Get real - you're the ones who keep calling him messiah. We just call him President! And we will continue to once he wins later this year!
And when asked if he could summarize his statement in three words, he shook his head in the affirmative and said, "I quit."
The Democrats voted on the wars. Who voted on the Libya war that was funded with Chinese money? The Democrats took over BOTH chambers of Congress in Jan of 2007. What has happened since besides trillion dollar/yr deficits and social programs? How's that multi-trillion Obamacare going to affect the economy??
Michelle, Hermie, Richie, all except for Huntsmen, remember when the democrats would comment on them not ever having a chance of getting the nomination nod from the gop? Yesiree, I remember all that. The repubes and teapots all claimed how they would all make the perfect president and then they don't even vote for them. These people open themselves up and make fools out of themselves for the nomination and then go crawl back in their holes, after they have been discovered idiots. Typical, empty repubes, shameless, anything to get that nomination. Now Obama may not be the perfect president, yet, but I do believe he has the countries best interest at hand so much more than any repube running, but people are tired of Washington politics and so they think that Ron Paul may be the answer to the problem there. Paul has some ideas but I don't know he's the answer to the problem. Right now I'm voting against everyone in congress, hopefull that will send a message to all the theives in Washington. It all just boils down to the repubes screwing everything up in DC. We should be charging Canada for cleaning up the mess of sand oil they have and they should build the US a refinery right across the boarder to fix the problem for them. I'm for the safe water for the people in the states that the oil lines passes through. Thats not an idea to help the US, the repubes see a quick buck in that so yeah they want it pass, but in the end after they squeeze every penny out of that sand oil, the country goes to shat and Canadas standing pretty. Nope, I agree with Obama on this and give him a lot of credit to stand up for whats right for this country. Not like the repubes wanting to squeeze every penny possible out of it, for their personal gain.
Notice how the author goes out of his way to mention every candidate besides Ron Paul, including those polling below him.
@Ruken, Right. lol You have heard about Stephen's "much anticipated" press conference with Herman? This will be great.
Gov. Perry ruined his run when he gave said we had to "have a heart", giving illegals in-state tuition in Texas. People are tired of our great country getting swamped with mexicans. My vote will be going to Ron Paul. He has the best illegal immigration solution...no entitlements at all to illegals. He also is the only one that wants to cut any part of our massive government that now spends 9.5 Billion dollars a WEEK just paying the INTEREST on our national debt. He's our only hope at this point.
dave,
It didn't help that he forgot which federal agencies he wanted to eliminate. That was the most awkward 30 seconds in the history of television.
The rain man endorses Mr. Hot Crotch. Isn't that wonderful?
Seems like through most of his campaign, every time Perry opened his mouth he's shoot himself in the foot one way or another. Is it any wonder that by the time he called it quits he did not have a leg left to stand on?
Perry was a class guy and a true patriot! I've seen him speak several times and on each occassion he was engaging, funny, and very eloquent! But in the first few debates he was nervous and tight, and made some uncharacteristic mistakes.... and unfortunately dug himself into a hole he couldn't get out of... especially in the 'take no prisoner' style of the debates and the remarkable efforts of the old liberal media to destroy any candidate who presumes to usurp the 'annoited one'! Leave it to the wacko liberal media to turn the political process into a circus!
And now we get to hear from Gingrich's 2nd wife! Classic liberal journalism, lol. I seem to remember the NY Times and other media entities had to be dragged kicking and screaming into the Johnny "Boy" Edwards scandal of blatantly cheating on his sick wife! The olm largely ignored that story, even though Edwards was at the time the leading candidate for the democrats..... nice opening for Harry Reid to insert his project into the mix.... Mr neighborhood organizer, Barry Obama! lmao!
Perry's biggest problem was continually trying to be something he is not. Perry came from humble beginnings but tried to present himself with the swagger of an entitled rich man. And it looked fake. I hope Perry learned that it is okay to just be who you are. If Perry really learned that lesson, then his candidacy was well worth the effort.
The Anybody But Obama crowd are going to have to accept Nobody But Romney. The establishment Republicans gave Romney the nod long before the campaigning started. Obama has been a good president for establishment Republicans. If Obama is replaced, the establishment Republicans want someone like him.
Gingrich and Santorum will not attract independents - simple as that. Too much baggage and too extreme ideology. Nominating either one of them will make winning back control of the Senate much more difficult. Nominating Ron Paul almost guarantees a low Republican turnout for the election.
The political battle this cycle is between establishment Reagan Republicans and the 'new' Republicans. Either Obama or Romney would be good for the Reagan Republicans - so it really does not matter which of them wins the election.
The Anybody But Obama crowd better get used to the idea that even if Obama is defeated - Obama will be replaced by another Obama.
Dano: If YOU had read Jazke's comment, you would have understood that it was meant to be sarcastic. Most people think that the reason McCain lost the presidency before was because he nominated Sarah Palin as his VP.....I think what Jazke is trying to say is that if Sarah endorses Newt.....he's on his way out.
RDG6: Apparently, you aren't politically astute to understand that we did not go to "war" with Libya....we merely assisted NATO, at their request, for air support. This is NOT considered a war and the president did NOT have to go to Congress to do what we are supposed to do as members of NATO. Secondly, do you know what "filibuster" means? We have have had a Democratic Congress back then, but we also had a Republican group in Congress who eschewed using filibusters every chance they could to block bills coming through Congress. They're still doing that as much as they are able. You need to start reading more....especially if you're going to make inane comments.
The trickle down school of Reganomics. You haven't been keeping up on neoconservative affairs the last few decades have you?

You could also ask "What political philosophy would teach that the way to shore up a failing economy is to rob it?"

David Walker, your comment made me laugh, many may have missed the humor/
Wow, I see the libretards are out in force.... collapsing any comment even slightly critical of their dogma! The neighborhood organizer would be proud of his success promoting class warfare!
teatards know libtards because they see each other in the mirror.
@ Didi, Up on the high horse again? Want to borrow my tiara?
Everyone, please, tell God thank you for Didi in your prayers tonight. Where would we be without condescending people, right?
The only reason Perry dropped out two days before the vote is that his supporters are more likely to initially favor Gingrich as he has the most similar public image. If he had dropped out weeks ago, those voters would have enough time to exercise their right to make real considerations which could give votes to other candidates.
It's called voter manipulation. It's similar to the way this article and most others make mention of every candidate but Ron Paul. It's funny how they claim santorum came in second in NH or maybe that was just ambiguous misinformation.
Fantastic...another "brilliant" fascist gone!
Isn't that special.
Hey Newt.....with friends like Sarah and Rick who needs enemies??????
Another blow to the campaign of another member of this dog and pony show.
Hey Rick.....if nobody voted for you, and you were behind in the polls in your own state what makes you think your endorsement would be anything but bad news for whomever you endorsed?
RDG6
It DOES add up, doesn't it! Half a billion in unfunded Bush policies (Iraq, Afghanistan, Homeland Security, Medicaid, lame-game tax cuts) plus half a billion in less tax revenue thanks to the economy Bush handed us, and we easily account for the first $trillion... add on a whopping $250 Billion to keep Americans from starving and you got it!
That damn Obama!
not sure what perry is taking for meds these days, but he seems to have finally come to his senses.
the only question i have is: 'how does he win elections in texas?' they can't be that stupid down there, can they? how can it be expained that he wins in texas being so stupid/inept?
his comments concerning turkey were the real corker!!! he doesn't understand turkey and yet he wants to be potus!!! and some people still think he is the man to do it. and are still giving him money! INCREDIBLE!!!! SIMPLY INCREDIBLE!!!!
the real 3 brainiacks: palin, perry and of course, bush (actually his whole family is of questionable intellect!)
Looks like there's finally some elbow room in the clown car ...so... will Perry's endorsement insure Newt the "village Idiot Vote"?
I’ll miss ‘Reverend Rick’ although the GOP primary campaign still has four clowns to ridicule. It’s not everyday we get a buffoon like ‘Reverend Rick’ that the rest of us normal Americans can make fun of.
Bye, Bye ‘Reverend Rick’.
Not to be struck by lightening, but God's choices keep dwindling... Just leaves Newtie and Santorum cause you KNOW God don't pick no Mormon....I always found it odd that God told so many people to run for President this year.... But now that it comes out Newtie wanted a mistress and Rick's relatives were communist... well that leaves us with Robot Romney.
mqira... you do realize that the current primary election is for a candidate to run for the Presidency of the United States who will have to swear to uphold the Constitution......not overall dictator and King of All The People who will make all the decisions based on what they think is best......in other words Ron Paul will not just be able to inflict his vision of America on us automatically the day he takes office.
I like the man he seems principled (which puts him way out in front of the rest of the candidates) but his supporters seem to think that he is just gonna walk in and take everyone back to the good ol' days. That's a nice vision it will be a Leave It To Beaver life for all, but it's just not going to happen that way I'm sorry.
Some of his policies make sense and should be worked toward but some of the other stuff will lead to disasters too scary to think about....end all regulation can you just imagine the rape of the land, air and water that will occur if that happened, isolationist foreign policy unfortunately it is a world community and now more than ever we need to work with and cooperate with the other nations of world (happy to have a real hard look at foreign aid and cut back on that), unfettered States Rights....last time I checked some 620000 lives were lost in a little tangle over that issue.....so one state make abortion illegal and a neighboring legal poor Sally lives in State 1 and goes to State 2 and gets an abortion she gets charged an exorbitant fee in State 2 and is charged with Murder 1 when she returns to State 1 then as a result is charged Federally for crossing state lines for the commission of a criminal offense.....
There is a big difference between being idealistic and realistic....Ron Paul and his supporters are idealists unfortunately the rest of us live in the real world and I would love to go back the Leave It To Beaver days but unfortunately you would have to erase a lot of history to get there...Viet Nam, Watergate, Reganomics etc etc etc..........
Waste your vote if you please, I am happy to have Ron Paul splitting the Republican Vote hopefully he runs as an independent but at the end of the day it won't make much difference the incumbant will likely win in a landslide for 2 reasons I think the get bulk of the voters feel that someone is making an honest effort to effect change for the better working within the system and the competition is pretty weak to say the least.
Then there were FOUR who on their worse days could defeat Obummer on their worst days. Obummer is a sitting duck who continues to play dead no matter what he does. He had 3 years plus to send advisers to talk with the Canadian and American planners on the oil pipeline and confer with them, that when the final report reached his office it would be an automatic signing.
BUT NO!
He waits until the final report comes in and refuses to put Americans to work.
And why did Obummer have the hydrogen renewable energy program investment program reduced to almost 0?
Norway, England, China and Japan are years ahead of the U.S.!
Here is something that Obummer is completely unaware of! With vehicles using hydrogen as a fuel instead of gasoline, oil prices will bottom. Automobile pollution will be a thing of the past and the U.S. will be energy sufficient forever.
Norway is already producing hydrogen powered vehicles and service stations to sell hydrogen!
Is Obummer getting paid by big oil to hide and dismantle research into hydrogen as a fuel?
Look who just figured out what everyone else already knew. Way to go Rickey. Your special!
Wilsonaide, the Wilson needs to change to kool since that seems to be what you drink. Your side thought they could force Obama's hands. Slipped something stupid in the debt limit raise making him decide by February. This was a major movement of the pipeline and they wanted him to decide in three months if it were safe, good idea, etc. They got what they wanted (an answer) and now cry about the results.
I think you will be amazed at the results come election day. One of yours is so far out of touch (Robot Romney) with Americans, he will never win. (Didn't make much for speaking fees... $375,000) 15% tax rate. all of the above. Then you have the double cheater who said he didn't make much off of Fannymae (1.5 million). You keep dreaming bucko...
Seems Perry was the last to know that he dropped out weeks ago. Glad he caught up. But the timing is odd, there is something more to this, a deal? Some nasty thing about to come out?
And Gingrich is getting the endorsement of another candidate and does not even get out of his bus and walk a few feet to thank him and spout a few words?
Why didn't Newt want to be on stage with him?
I think some major poop is about to come out on Perry, and nobody will want a recent photo with I'm to be laying around.
Could it be some of his corrupt pa for play and double dealing?
Or that personal life thing that has long been rumored...Miss Ricky come out...its ok
PAUL in chicago-1569139 - It amazes me how you can talk about another state and question a Governor and the stupidity of the people of Texas when you are from CHICAGO!!! Like you are any better off. Please - you better go check the mirror !
Donna, do you know how many people did the same thing about Governor Jan Brewer and the people of Arizona? What they are doing here is mild compared to that!
Sort of make South Carolina irrelevant when you get right down to it... wasted on a person too incompetent to get on the ballot on all 50 states? It was an oversight by his campaign. So how is this guy going to run the country when he can't run a campaign?
What a difference a day makes!
Why, wasn't it only last night Perry said he was staying in?
Yes, I believe it was... lol
Good Riddance - he can now crawl back to TX!
Adios Amigo!
Alberto, why, of course the liberals will say "tax the rich". That has been their pat answer for 50 years.
That is totally off topic for this thread.
Gees, redhead, give it a rest. You are so far left it's actually funny to watch you rant on a daily basis. All we can do is hope 2012 sees an end to Obama and his corrupt Washington gang.
You have to excuse alberto, he is an untrained troll who follows me everywhere...
Sorry sweetie - not going to happen! ;o)
http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/205025-dems-receive-more-bain-dollars-than-gop
Do you think we'll ever find out what was going on with him at that New Hampshire debate? Inquiring minds want to know.
Hey alberto_ny
Why don't you ask the Illinois legislature that question? Better yet, why does someone who professes to be from ny (taken from your screen name) give two hoots about the Illinois budget? Will anything that Illinois does affect your budget in NY?
Seems to me you're just trying out one of those famous "Republican Straw Man Arguments". Those of us who know FRR know she won't bite on your question.
SayitaintSo
Bingo!
I have no desire to entertain trolls - if you don't feed them eventually they will starve! ☺
marlen101917
Once Palin endorsed Newt he knew his campaign was over. Smart man.
marlen
I'm so glad the village idiot from Alaska did. Now Newt can keep stalking like a dog President Obama begging for his umpteen Lincoln Douglas debates which he will never get from the President.
Newt is a dog.
Hey, Rick let's see you cut yourself some slack and check into some gingko for your memory losses. That's if you can find your way back to Texas.
Only problem there is... WE DON'T WANT HIM EITHER! I'm a redhead too, by the way.
Excellent comeback sayitaintso, alberto - you should worry more about your own state, by the way, don't republicans want states rights? Well, that right includes each state their own budget. Civics 101, go back to class, come discuss again when you are educated. Much to the chagrin of the repubs, feisty, bev, comback, pat in boston, many others and I are not going away and we vote!
feisty: been reading your comments for awhile now and you are 99.9% right on. the sad thing is when these repukers and teapuggers collapse your comments cause you hit a raw nerve with them.
cry baby bone head the number 3 man to be in line for our country's highest office made another appearance condemning Obama for his actions on keyline. yes mighty ole repukers are naturally going to get on Obama if it means big oil can't continue to make big profits regardless of anything and anyone.
perry didn't stand a chance winning anything cause frankly he's a idiot so back to his biggot rock and good bye repuker. newt the millionaire high MORAL or bain rummy the flip flopper are surely going to be the repukers and teapuggers candidate. it will be interesting to see them debate Obama and shown for what they are in the pockets of norquist. sure would be nice to have either one of these so called leaders show and be shown for what they are.
keep up the good comments and OBAMA 2012
I see InTheMiddle, TX alter ego has joined us...
Sorry about your month suspension pal but I have reported you...
I had high hopes for Perry when he started out. Then my hopes were dashed and he turned out to be a huge disappointment. Hey! Kind of like Obama has been to the lefties!
Thanks for the shout out Larry!
As far as the collapsing thingy goes - the RWNJ's still haven't figured out it, people automatically open them!
Kind of like an 'R' rating! ;o)
But don't tell no one... K? lol
Obama/Biden 2012 - To Move this Country Forward!
Check (Websters) under Feisty or Bev. It says C an't U nderstand N ormal T hinking
LOL. Good one, Isaac.
Larry. Yesterday, ALL of my posts were collapsed, so go blow it out yer...
Alberto_ny - I think you have to be the best comedian I have ever seen on MSNBC. Each and every post from you makes me LMAO.
Off topic Newt has done a good job of getting the media to focus on Willard's (Bain & tax returns).
What ever happened to Newt's release of Fannie Mae papers, lobbyist or not?
Feisty..................obumbo has moved this country so far backward it would take alot of moving forward just to get back to square one. We need "change" but not this fools idea of change.
off topic Newt has done a good job of getting media to focus on Willard's (Bain & taxes).
What happened to Newt's Fannie Mae papers to be released? Lobbying money.
To the folks that run this site...why hasn't feisty redhead from IlliNOISE been banned already. While most of us from time to time lose a little control here and get a spanking... this person just calls people names and offers nothing to even discuss...unless it is her lack of knowledge about much of anything.
LARRY,
Your right Perry was an idiot and I am glad to see him go. However you have no platform to stand on while calling people idiots.
You see I have been reading many of your posts as well, and you do tons of name calling and bashing republicans as stupid. Well let me re-write this in a fashion you are more a custom to.
(your right perry was an idiot and i am glad to see him go however you have no platform to stand on calling people idiots.)
Your posts are full of ignorance to the English language. I am in no way an English major. I do however realize not to call people idiots while my posts are full of grammatical errors and pure emotional reaction. Please display some cognitive reasoning and bring something to a conversation instead of being another one of the read heads sheep.
Did it ever cross your mind that what Feisty says is mostly true, it's not collapsed because of truth. It's collapsed because she doesn't understand how to hold a conversation with people who have different opinions. She isn't the only one here. This place is full of emotional drivel with no contributions to a discussion as a whole.
I wonder if anyone saw Obama's little speech on Greta Van whatever! He said, If you're "still weary", and "I promise,.... change is coming"! Bullsh*t! Change is coming???? So if change didnt happen then, why would it now? If he didnt do what he promised then, why would he do it now? People who vote for Obama based on that are completely ignorant that he is as corrupt as they come. ( I am not defending the GOP...they are equally corrupt) But the fact is that Obama is not going to do anything, except as he has in the past. He will bail out corporations, secretly give trillions away (as he has done), and passing laws that restrict our freedom (as bush has done, and Romney as well) . If you really want change, want what Obama "claimed" to have stood for....then look at what Ron Paul is saying! Don't just look at the headlines, or the media coverage. or especially the same regurgitated artilcles that resurface with peoples opinions.....spend 10 minutes and look at the facts and his consistency. If anyone spends time (if they are truly concerned) and really looks at all the candidates and what they stand for....then Ron Paul will become the next President! However, if you believe the news and dont do your own research, then Obama or Romney will be the next president.....but then you get what you deserve....more war, more economic downturns, more resitrictions (with laws like NDAA, The patriot act,...)
mqira,
Good luck with that, not sure how long you have been on newsvine. This is a playground for ignorance and blind support for political parties. The most troubling part is it really does represent the thinking of Americans as an entire community. Neither party can admit when they are wrong, and aside from abortion each party has actually had the same stance on issues throughout the years.
Unfortunately I don't ever see this mentality changing. Good post though, the ignorance of the majority will surely drag us all down with them. I am sure you can see the shape our schools are in.
Fiesty, You are from Illinois, and You think You know the cure for what problems this country has ? Why don't You crawl back to that corrupt, broke, sorry excuse of a state !
Feisty and the Feistyites. A question or two please.
Do you see anything in Mr. OBAMA that you disagree with or would change?
And what if the last election were a Putney Swope situation?
Joel,
At least she knows the proper use of capital letters.
But what can you expect from someone who brought up the 57 state thing again. But, I guess that's all you've got.
How sad.
Teabagger, don't you think that your comment would be better addressed in a message to the moderators rather than just cock-crowing on a news-story that has nothing to do with anyone but Rick Perry?
In any case, Perry saw the writing on the wall far earlier than this. My personal speculation is that he stayed in this long to cause division for Romney. Seems to have worked. Now he can go collect his paycheck for this service from whomever hired him to manipulate the primaries in such a way. Although, that person might have done better to hire someone with a little more clout.
This "anyone but Romney" movement has me positively giddy. I guess republicans figure that they cannot work WITH Obama... but they are certainly working FOR him. lol
Another one bites the dust...
USA: President Obama couldn't move this country ANY FURTHER BACKWARD than your ex-President Bush did....if you were up on politics and read newspapers, you would see that since President Obama was elected, the economy is slowing moving up and unemployment is slowly moving down. I could list a number of things that President Obama has done to help this country in the past 3+ years he's been our president, but you wouldn't believe them anyway. You just can't change a Republican's mind.....it's like a closed book and they won't change it even if you show them the error of their ways in black and white!!! Oh well, they'll have another 4 years to complain once President Obama is re-elected, and he WILL be re-elected.
Gwad! I hope the good folks of "Cowpens" keep a watchful eye on Newt. Remember South Carolinian's, Newt is loose among you and there are innocent Heifers and steers being held in plain sight there!
If anyone wants to get feisty's attention,
They need to start new paragraphs for every sentence.
She never has a civil debate.
She always resorts to partisan name calling.
She doesn't respond to valid comments or questions.
Her minions check off on everything she says.
She's angry and she wants the government's money to be given out freely.
By the government's money, I mean your money.
She most likely needs this government assistance because she sits on MSNBC all day.
She is a bitter, nasty individual who assumes us all to be trolls.
She is most likely divorced and therefore pissed at the world.
She contributes to the bitter atmosphere between those on both sides.
She thinks way, way, way too highly of herself.
And she loves double spacing as a way of saying "LOOK AT ME"
carrot top.... lol (love your nickname)... the country has been moving backwards for over 3 years now. Four more years of socialist damage will put us deeper in the hole that Greece, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Argentina are in after years of socialism! I'm pretty sure informed voters in November will stop that decay from happening to our Country! The O must go! Romney/Rubio will begin the reconstruction!
So... Lemme see whether I understand the possible future situation correctly... CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG...
If Gingrich winds up being the POTUS 2012, are the women who will occupy the White House to be called The First Married Lady and ... (what?) ... The First Cougar LadyFriend? BWAAAhahahaha (aka The First Hussy?)
Judging by the cover, I would NEVER have guessed Gingrich to be a Player. Herman Cain... YES. But not Gingrich.
Things are going to get interesting. The question is, who will pick up the Perry supporters?
Who'll pick up the Perry supporters? You mean those 4%?
Good bye Gov. Perry. I couldn't stand your politics but I enjoyed having you in the campaign.
Soooooooooo, Santorum won Iowa huh? All that money Romney spent. All those ads. Santorum's hard work paid off in Iowa. Good for him.
Can he win SC too or is this between Newt and Willard? Not surprised to see SC looking the other way on Bain. Not surprising at all. Yet were happy with Newt's response to Juan Williams?
SC. Unbelievable.
Job1 - Absolutely interesting with mama Sarah now vetting officer in chief.
It's hilarious watching the Republican panic. They are tossing people as fast as they can and cooking up election results so they can stop the Romney train in their frenzy to make sure that nothing even remotely resembling moderation makes it through a crack. It's going to be really good watching them dispose of Newt because he isn't likely to go nicely like slick Rick and Huntsman did.
Pat Boston, We keep hearing the phrase brokered convention and dark horse. There is suppose be big reveal from one of Newts Ex, could be a real game changer. As for Mitt he is the poster boy for everything the OWS and America is so upset with. He has no compassion for the American people that have lost so much. The though of Jeb Bush's name being thrown out there is frightening! This circus is far from over and there needs to be allot of fact checks done!
Romney's very bad no good day,...guess he didn't win Iowa, either,...Doh!
Let's all hope for Gingrich to have a good showing!
Perry who??? Newt's second missus is telling all! PLEASE OH PLEASE GOP make Newt your nominee! PLEASE! I have to laugh, GOP here in Iowa can't even count their own votes, and get them to the central Committee! They are always making fun of the Democratic "chaos" of their caucuses! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! And they keep ignoring Paul...he'll run a third party!
This is most unexpected for me. I was expecting him to drop out quietly this Sunday after getting pummeled in the primary. Perry's exit won't bolster Gingrich enough to win SC. Romney all but has the nomination, which is still my prediction. The only wild card left in my mind is whether Ron Paul will make a run as an independent.
Its all a dog & pony show to make us believe we have a say in the nominee......the old school repubs have picked Romney and Romney it will be. They themselves will kill off any opposing cantidate one at a time saving the democrats the trouble.
I remember it was the old school repubs who spoke out against Mr. Reagan and did not want him a a nominee and it was Bush Sr who ridiculed Mr. Reagan in the early stages. Old school GOP gave us little bush, mccain and now romney......
Doesw any other conservatives see a pattern of weak, flip floppy, manicured middle of the road politicians here............and we wonder how an idiot communist like odumbo got into office.....HA with the help of the GOP. Way to go. We really do need a third party here.
maybe we should open our minds and see the possibilty of more than one.
Perry stated, "I've got three reasons for suspending my campaign, #1 - I'm dead last in the polls, #2 - I just can't face ANOTHER debate, and #3 - (hmmm, what was that last point?)"
Ursula, I think you should have spot on SNL. That's classic Perry. Regardless of what he dose from this point he will go down as the big duffas in this election cycle!
There is a lot of celebration in Turkey today as well.
Only one duffas, that be Obama the clown without a clue.
See clark gives the perfect example of what the right represents nowadays - whining racists.
While I agree demsrock that one should not call either an active or retired President names I see nothing in Clark's post that suggest even a hint at racism. Can you support your claim or are you just interested in "fanning the flames?"
Nah nah nah.. nah nah nah.. HEY HEY HEY.. GOODBYE - Perry. Thank you for going on the political stage and embarrassing yourself and the entire state of Texas. Now I am sure you can refocus your time and energy on this ludicrous notion of Texas leaving the United States...
So now let's see what we have left:
a. Mittens - "I love to fire people and pretend I understand what the middle class is all about"
b. Gingirch - "I violated Congressional Ethics, don't know what I did to earn 1.3 million dollars (kickback) from Freedie Mac, and I wanted to impeach President Clinton for an affair, when I was having ONE MYSELF, supported by the bobble head Sarah Palin, lurking around"
c. Santorum "I am a fascist that believes what's right for me, is not allowed for you"
d. Paul " I want to return this country back to 1896"
Its About Time, You hit the nail on the head with the canidates great post !
It's about time, it would be great if We could return to the principles of 1896, We might not have all the crooks robbing us of our money, or it least there would be enough patriots to forcefully remove them from office, All of these chicken sh_— liberal traitors, We will never get to see the light. It's not a question of Democrat, Republican, it is a fact that the government is broken, and they all need to be removed, and start over. We have to take this thing back!
Reason #3: I'm going back to Texas to start my new career as a debate coach.
"Yeahhh! That's the ticket!"
It's About Time, you missed one:
Obama - "I am running on my record; Solyndra, Fast and Furious, Libya... And my angry black wife is supporting me."
principles of 1896? You really want to go back to the robber baron days? Yes, there are many problems with the broken political system....from the local level all the way through the federal level. The only way to ever change that is for everyone to get involved in the Popular Amendment Movement and help petition for a Constitutional Convention in your state to pass these two amendments from faircampaignreform(dot)us:
Petition for US Constitutional Amendment For Election Reform
We, the undersigned US citizens, duly registered voters in our respective states/territories, do hereby petition for our state to approve the following amendment to the United States Constitution by the method noted below.
Election Reform:
1. Abolish the Electoral College (Repeal Amendment 12)
2. ONE NATIONAL primary date to be held on the Tuesday eight (8) weeks prior to the General Election day for Congressional offices and for the President. Candidate petitions must be filed with the local/state elections boards 60 days prior to the Primary Election date. Federal election petitions shall be uniform in every state and shall include a “contract with the voters” that spells out clearly what that candidate stands for on all issues that they may have to address in elected office. They shall be held accountable in court for breach of that contract if elected and any/all terms are not met.
3. NO campaigning allowed for any elective federal office more than 60 days prior to the National Primary Date.
4. NO campaign contribution shall be donated to any candidate of more than $200 from an individual or $500 maximum from a family (spouses/children living in the same household.) No donations shall be made to a candidate more than sixty days prior to the primary date. No candidate shall contribute from their own funds more than 60% of the total donations from other private individuals.
5. NO campaign contribution from any PAC, corporation, union, non-profit organization, special interest group, etc. shall be allowed for any elected federal office.
6. NO third party campaigning (separate PAC ads, corporate ads, etc.) for/against any candidate shall be allowed at any time during or before the election season.
7. NO party conventions shall be held to select the presidential candidates. The selection must be done at the ballot box in the primary election.
8. The One Man/One Vote Supreme Court ruling shall be enforced by this Amendment, namely that NO federal candidate selection shall be by any means other than the ballot box on Primary/General Election Dates.
9. National Party Organizations shall NOT raise money for or donate to specific candidates of their party prior to the dates outlined above.
10. PAC’s shall NOT be granted tax-exempt status by the IRS, and any non-profit organization who uses their funding for political purposes shall lose their tax-exempt status.
11. All lobbyists shall be outlawed from influencing Congress at all times.
This amendment shall be approved ONLY by State Constitutional Conventions to be called within 90 days of this petition being submmitted to a state’s Secretary of State. A minimum of 25% of the registered voters in each state shall be required to further this petition to the respective Secretary of State.

To Anti-Trust Proponent, I surely liked your article. Where can we sign up? This is getting out of hand and I CANNOT STAND OBAMA. He is a Leftist, Muslism, Marcsist, wants to control everything, too big of an EGO. The friends from Chicago should stop supporting him. How can any white person vote for him.
I guess somebody hit the racism nerve.
Carol must have flunked grade school. They can't spell Marxist.
There is no place to sign up as there is no real organization. Popular Amendment Movement is simply a grassroots effort to get local organizations going to circulate the petitions. Cut and paste the petitions and print them out. Newsvine won't let me post a link to faircampaignreform(dot)us any more since I am the sole financial backer of the website and they are calling that "advertising." The petitions and the website were created in August 2010 as a response to the SCOTUS ruling and the vast amounts of personal money candidates such as Meg Whitman were spending on their campaigns, along with the SuperPAC's and Propsition 8, etc. The petitions were created out of discussion held here on Newsvine at the time and the ECFR petition was modified from the original six sections to the eleven sections as a result of those discussions also. There has never been any formal organization, just people responding to the political situation and their frustrations. When I posted the petition on the White House We the People website, I got 18 people to sign up there. Another case of the apathy of the voters???? Everyone loves to sit around and complain but seem to never want to take action. I have been encouraging posters to go to the website, download the petitions, sign and circulate them among family, friends, and neighbors, then help form local and state grassroots organizations to collect the petitions for submission to the respective Secretary of State. That is the alternate procedure for constitutional amendments outlined in the constitution. Each state may have its own rules for the number of valid registered voter signatures to call for the conventions and that is why it has to be done by local people, not by any national organization. I live in the USVI where we have NO vote for the president, we have NO representation in the Senate, and only have Delegate vote within whatever committee(s) he/she can get appointed to. Yet we are governed by the Organic Act that Congress has full power over. I have no real voice or power in this matter because of my location, but I sure want to see my fellow citizens take charge (I'm originally from OH) of the political future of this country.
Pam 52 - Thanks for the comment back. I probably could have said more about the candidates, but that was a good summary up until now. :)
Mr Steady: First, I want to see what happens with Solyndra before I pass judgement on Obama's interaction there. If he did something illegal, then I'll believe it.
Carol - 9977483. If you can show me a republican candidate that is worthy of my vote, I'll be happy to suppor them. However, there isn't one right now that even comes close. Obama may not be doing everything right, but he sure is heck is doing better than anyone of these clowns running for President.
Joel 989818. I do not want to return to the economic conditions of 1896. If we did, there would be factories that are still putting saw dust in their meat. e.g., "the Jungle" from Sinclair is a good example of factory life just after 1896. We were also a 100% white male dominated society... no can do in 2012. However, were tougher on crime.. etc. So I guess, there are some things in 1896 that may apply now.
Anti Trust Proponent. You have some very good points here, and I think some of these would be a great start. However, that is just a start. We also have to take a very HARD look at our budget and what our tax money is being spent on.
1. We need to overhaul ALL corporate welfare programs in this country. There is no reason why the American taxpayer should allow tax loop holes that result in subsidies for corporations that make record profits. e.g., BIG OIL, GE, Walmart, etc.
2. We need to overhaul all Social Welfare programs in this country. Welfare should not be a way of life in this country. There has be limits (nationally) on getting money from the federal government. There is no reason why we the American Taxpayer should continue to allow someone to collect welfare and abuse the system.
3. We need to overhaul healthcare costs in this country. There is no reason why a kleenex should cost $5.00 in a hospital. I am all for free enterprise, and allowing insurance companies, drug companies, etc to make profits, but when an elderly american has to choose between buying their presecription drugs or paying for heat, I have a problem.
In 2012, a good quality of life is not just food, clothing, and shelter... it must not include health care and transportation.
IAT, I agree that there are many other things that also need to be addressed. But until we address the political nightmare we call "free elections" that aren't really "free", we will not see any other changes. There is a way to end your item 1. For months, I have been calling for a total change in our tax structure. It is as follows:
Gross Income Tax (ALL income, no matter its source, including alimony) with the first $25K tax free. 15% tax rate on all income over $25K up to $250K, 30% tax rate on all income over $250K up to $750K, and 45% tax rate on all income over $750K. And before everyone complains about corporations having to pay on their gross receipts, some of us already have to do that within our locales. Here in the USVI, we have to pay 4.5% on our gross receipts PLUS 6% customs fee on all merchandise shipped onto the island that is not clearly labeled Made in the US (or America), PLUS 4.5% excise tax on all goods brought onto the island (which is almost everything we use in a business.) Then on top of that we have to pay the regular Federal Income Tax on that same gross income adjusted for our expenses (except we can't deduct the gross receipts taxes paid.) As a territory, our FIT stays here instead of going to DC, so we are in effect getting double taxed for that income. That is all a cost of doing business. Let all corporations pay tax on what they bring in, after all, they add all tax costs to the final cost of goods just like they add all other expenses to that cost of the goods sold.
You big supid and dumb repulicans I hope romey and the old man newt drops out now because you dumb repulicans make me want VOMIT and your sickin to me to death and the state OHIO. I want OBAMA to win in 2012 because he is better than you dumb republicans. You big bunch big dumb and supid babies make me sick. Ha ha ha supid republicans. I hope you never win the race for GOP.
When all else fails flog the dead horse. Read Dickens.
About time. Now we're very sure our men and women will not be going back to Iraq.
I think more importantly this will delay our invasion of Turkey!
You are so right, Da Noid. But Romney is beating the drum of neo-conservatives so loud and clear.
No we're not Pen, mitt and newt are still running.
So Iran is off the table too? The propoganda still seems loud and clear to me.
Waddle your dumb-hillbilly secessionist azz back to Texas … again … LOL
You could have just donated that money to Rick Perry's PAC.
Exotic- There's no reason for that kind of talk. First of all us Texas people are not all hillbillies. I live in Texas near Austin. But I have to say I will not vote for my Governor next election do to the fact that Perry is a hypocrite, he talks bad about the Washington insider and yet he is endorcing Newt who happens tobe one of those Washington insiders. Also I dont like Newt for that comment about Andrew Jackson and how Newt admires him for killing his enemies which happened to be us Native Americans. I lost all respect for Newt Ginrich for that comment alone.
Exotix- They actually have working computers in the bath houses in San Francisco? Wow. Say "hi" to Bawney Fwank and make sure that each one of your "friends" uses protection. Liberals are already dying off in record numbers.
Wow looks like some boys are a little jealous of extiox, he is good looking. Makes you mad huh? Good looking and a Dem too? I know it must be hard trolling from your trailers, with your faux noise blaring. Get out get a life!!!!
LMAO @damage with his nothing to say but school yard crap and alberto that seems to be lost all the time.
Good looking? Wow I think you need your prescription for eyeglasses revised.
Exotix I don't like Perry but you calling him a "dumbass-hillbilly" while you picture shows you with no shirt and a mullett...........Priceless.
Why does this exotix guy get to keep from having his lame, rude comments collapsed? How do you collapse comments anyway? Why does albert_ny get all his comments deleted? He must be a funny guy. That exotix guy sure looks strange..eew!
Told 'ya...
Didn't even make it to Sunday...Newton picks up 3-points...
I wondered what that sound was in the middle of the Night. Must have been his head dislodging from his a$$!
Wonder how all those tea people GOP republicans that gave their hard earned money to Perry feel now.
Still better than I do for 10 bucks to John Edwards...
df,
That's gotta' hurt! I had no idea,...
So it boils down between the Old isolationist, the fat hypocrite and the guy who came up with the original Obama health care plan. I'm rooting for the fat guy because he is good fodder for SNL and I think he will be the easiest of the three for Obama to own. :)
Disagree, Romney is the easiest for the libbies to bet, that's why the libby media has pushed him from the beginning. They know Newt is by far more intelligent will destroy Obammyin a debate. While Romney is more like Obammy and therefore easier to defeat. Unfortunately the best candidate, Cain, was not willing to endure the slings and arrows from the left and therefore he to made an exit. He had his problems but would have made the best POTUS of all the candidates.
Wendy: Newt is far more intelligent? Umm, nope. He is what people who are not particularly intelligent themselves *think* an intelligent person is. He's squarely in the middlebrow camp: smart and articulate enough to convince lowbrows that he's highbrow.
Romney stands a small chance. Newt has no chance. Dr. Paul has a very good chance, but he's against the establishment so they're doing everything they can to prevent him from being elected.
Wendy..why?...on what do you base your beliefs? Is it Herman's simplistic yet totally unworkable 999 policy? Is it his belief that he would be not have to know much about foreign affairs (though, it appears that he DOES know alot about domestic "affairs")? Or is it his electric fence idea for curing all our illegal immigration problems? I, for one, would love to hear your rationale as to why he would be the best POTUS. Thank you. I will sit down and wait for my answer.
It was a republican commentator who compared Newt to "a blender without the lid on." He has no chance.
SNL is going to have enough material from this primary to keeep us rolling around on the living room floor, trying desperately not to die from laughter for at least five years.
Thank God..
Noooo! Now he comes back to Texas again! We really don't want him here, specially after hearing him speak and completely humiliate himself. Not really the Texas image we want to portray.
Sophie, I really hope the good state of Texas was listing to him and replace him with a good Democrat!
Unfortunately, I see 'Perry for President' stickers on people's cars...even here in liberal Austin! If we don't get rid of him the next go around, I will have no words!
Pam:
Texas would probably still have Democratic Governors.... were it not for the Momumental Fiasco Governor Anne Richards made with their budget, their schools and scared off investors - this all led to "big ears" being elected in 1994 in the first place. Karma can hurt.....
Oh and her other brain child, the Big XII, also stinks.
Oh, I don't know....combined with The Bush Babies, the addition of Ricky P just about sums up MY view oif Texas...s.
T.R. Hendricks, We were in Texas in the 80s when the housing boom went south, took us 5 years to sell that house for peanuts. The state was in mess that's for sure. Politics is a game of poker you win some , you loose some that's for sure. But I think its time for Texas to see the light and they have seen first hand what an air head Perry is. When the defense Dept has to clean up after a candidate , well it speaks volumes about his leadership. 10 years , I say hes reached his expiration date LOL.
Just an Opinion, Austin is a beautiful place. Our son is Texas Baby. I cannot understand the people who follow him with blinders on! What are they thinking ? You know have no doubt as a person hes good old Texas Man but as a politician he stinks ! Wonder what they will put over there bumper stickers now? Jeb Bush ?
I thought he said he was going to RETIRE as governor. ???? Does anyone remember that he said he was intitled to a HUGE Texas pension, (in addition to his salary), 'cuzz he intends to retire. LOL I'll believe it when I see it!!
WHY do all y'all keep electing him?
ilartxfl: He's collecting his retirement now. He' doesn't have to leave office to do it. Makes you sick, right? I want to know how he's planning to reimburse the taxpayers of TX for his million dollar plus travel expenses while pursuing his pipe dream candidacy. This bastard has got to go.
me4texas - Do you expect to be reimbursed for all the Tax Dollars President Obama is spending to campaign??? President Obama has been on the campaign trail more than doing his job.
We're not sure of that ourselves Terelyn lol this last election I believe there were 3 candidates running and basically no one voted (our turnout was one of the lowest it's ever been)
You also have to remember that Texas Governor's have very little power compared to other states, our state has a plural executive branch system it's from wiki but it's accurate:
Note to self: Send a letter over to Darth Cheney. He needs to hire better quality trolls. Leona, Donna, and the rest are not earning their money. All snark, no facts, data, ideas, information, nothing that hasn't been long ago debunked. Some of your trolls still think the Muzzlims are coming.
Who DID vote for Perry? I can't find anybody even in my very conservative office who will own up to it. Unless the voting was completely rigged? How much longer is his term? Too long.
Another one bites the dust !!! So long Perry hope you remember where Texas is?
I don't.
Ahh shucks! Carnival barkers are dropping away one by one. The biggest one, Romney, is still leading. The second one, Newt, is trailing close behind and Santorum, the apparent winner of irrelevant Iowa, . . . well . . . 'nough said! Can't wait for wife number two interview to air. Newt will be turned into the player he is in no time. Both in his personal life and political career. Only Romney takes more positions than Newt.
Bananas, dont woryy...the "Biggest Loser" will be chosen in November. It will be Barack Obama, who lost millions of US jobs, and was the biggest failure as President since Carter.
AnaBanana, You apparently heard Morning Joe also. Sanatorium had 34point lead. Plus there seems to be votes missing. Red flags should be all over the place in South Carolina. If you cheat at Caucus's what will happen in the Election?
Excuse me you mean Bush lost millions of jobs. If you look at employment numbers they started to rise when Obama took office.
Hey Bob, amazing how you folks on the right have to resort to lies in order to somehow support your party's clowns on the stage and the disastrous repub policies that this country is now paying big time for. Again, republicans are just a bunch of whiners who take no responsibility for the disaster your created, instead, you act like whining idiots. You still won't win, and your party still has no answers and is still as much a political disaster as the disaster your party under Bush and the Republican congress brought down on this country's head. Really, blaming President Obama for your party's disaster is so old, so tired, so false, so childish, you know, much as you portray your party to be and which we know it is.
Good point Stan. Don't know why Bob comes and posts on newsvine after watching Fox News all day. He has no facts, only Fox diatribe to offer. Fox News viewers have the distinction of being the most misinformed and Bob is living proof.
You contradict yourself Bob. Unemployment numbers started to go up in June of '08. That is when it became apparent that Hillary was going to lose, McCain was going to lose, and the inevitable winner would be Obama. Business is smart enough to know when they see a bad turn coming and reacts accordingly. A total democrat controlled GovCo sent them reeling as they saw the writing on the wall. Nothing good could come from the results of the November elections and they knew it.
AnaBanana-1782128 - So let me understand your comment. You ONLY read and get your info on MSNBC?
AnaBanana-1782128:
Wow! That's quite a statement to make about cable news watchers! More people watch FOX News than all the other news shows combined! Oreilly has been the number one in his time slot for over 100 months now.
I guess only Republicans can afford TVs and cable. Let's ask Obama to increase entitlements so the Democrats can afford cable and have a balanced electorate!
Bob-1887910
Bananas, dont woryy...the "Biggest Loser" will be chosen in November. It will be Barack Obama, who lost millions of US jobs, and was the biggest failure as President since Carter.
Hey Booby trap
Do read the News Papers? We shed 750,000 jobs when Bush left office. President Obama created 2.5 million jobs.
The Obama Stimulus Created More Jobs In 2010 Than Bush Did in 8 Years
http://www.politicususa.com/en/obama-gop-job-creation
And another one bites the dust...hey, hey, yeah!
I'm surprised Perry lasted this long, especially after the Bush debacle.
WOW! Now that is completely non-sensical. So how many people did Obama lay off or fire? Exactly none in the private sector.
And if we had listened to Carter instead of ridiculing him for failing to resolve an issue Reagan resolved by dealing with terrorists (but you loved Reagan right?) we would be a whole lot better off today. Considering obama's approval ratings today are double that of GW on leaving office I don't think he has to worry about any sort of "worst ever" title no matter what happens in November.
That's the problem with todays GOP/TP. All you people do is gripe and bitch and post falsehoods, you have no solutions for anything. Tax cuts for corporations? Been there done that. Tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans? Been there done that too! And exactly where have these cuts gotten us? In massive debt of course. And look at the candidates you now must support!
What talk says is exactly what our CEO has said all long. He got ahead of the curve and we are healthy today because of it.
Obama created 2.5 million jobs Bev ? Where? They are surely not in our town( Chicago), we're at 10% unemployment. The percentage number only fluctuates lower at times because people are running out of benefits. And you say Fox News is full of &%^#$ !!
Stan-2342989
Yea, because obama made it happen right? Do you know simple economics?
I agree with Bob and Stan you have the paper upside down turn it over and all becomes clear.
AnnaBanana,
When Clinton was busted commiting adultry in the oval office, no less, all the Dems cried, "His personal life doesn't matter !" But with Gingrich now you want to claim his personal life matters, even when he does whatever he does on his own time. Which is it ? You can't have it both ways. If personal life matters Clinton should have been impeached, if it doesn't, get off Newt's back.
I'm not a Dem or Rep but it can't be both ways, pick one and stick with it. To do oterwise is pure hypocrisy.
Notice there is never a mention of where Papy Ron Paul is in the Teabaqger poles?? He should run as an independent, the Pubs will never nominate him! Sorry you got "Captain Underpants" !!
@papa dave,
i'm a democrat and i watch fox news all the time ( i even bought my own tv with my own earned money!).
anytime i'm feeling depressed, i turn to fox news for a good laugh! XD
Soldier's Dad - Enjoyed your comment and so true!
Thanks Donna. I'm not necessarily a Newt fan, but wrong is wrong and when I saw the wrong I just tried to point it out. I notice there was no response. Everybody has to play by the same rules, you can't change them to suit your favorite no matter where your allegiance lies.
I guess I still don't see the math on Obama's job creation numbers. Straight from the Bureau of Labor Statistics:
Total Employment in Janaury 2009 = 133,563,000
Total Employment in December 2011 = 131,900,000
That would be a net decrease in 3 years of 1,663,000 jobs.
Soruce:
Click on Total Nonfarm Employment - Seasonally Adjusted, and retireve data.
For the record, here is Bush's less than stellar performance:
Total Employment January 2001 = 132,469,000
Total Employment January 2009 = 133,563,000
That would be a net increase of 1,094,000 for 8 years.
Based on the BLS data, we are still not even back to where we were in 2001.
Bob-1887910 Comment collapsed by the community
Carter was just another puppet of the Liberal Democratic freebie crowd. Give me my liberal freebies and I'll vote for you. Take away from my liberal freebies and I will vote Republican.
Soldier's Dad,
How did we get to Clinton? Not a Republican my a$%! No self respecting woman I know would allow either Clinton on Gingrich close. Both lie to your face. At least one knows how to run a country. The other has no problem with cheating while trying to impeach for same, is proven corrupt and has even admitted that he cheats because "I work so hard!". If you think being Speaker is hard wait til the Presidency. I guess we'll have a harem at the white house to take care of Newt's needs while he "works so hard". Give me a break!
Obama, a man with ethics and morals above reproach, 2012!
We got to Clinton because when he got caught having sex on the job all the Dems were crying that his personal life didn't matter. Now with Gingrich who did what he did on his own time the same people want to crucify him, but wait, what happened to his personal life doesn't matter ? Or does that only apply to Dems ?
All I'm saying is that if personal life doesn't count for a sitting President why should it count for a candidate ? Fair is fair and whichever way one believes on that matter of one's personal life it must be applied equally all the way around or it's hypocrisy. Personal life can't not count for my guy and count for yours. Either it counts or it doesn't.
BTW you know absolutely nothing about my political opinions and have no right to label me as affiliated with either party, as I am not, I am strictly Independent and don't like either party. I also don't like unfairness wherever it is found.
AnaBanana - You Love to promote a Double Standard! And then when another person voices an Opinion - You get Condesending! And then what is with this Obama, a man with ethics and morals above reproach, 2012 - Excuse Me!!! NOT Hardly. There is not such person living a Political Life - after all President Obama came from Chicago!!!!!
And Do not waste your time - calling me names.
Funny how you, Donna and Soldier's Dad threw around the name calling and can't stand it when someone shows YOU for the hypocrites you are. No double standard. I made my position on husbands who fool around very clea on my post. All woman, with self respect, understand. I realize that characteristics may exclude you Donna. Sorry and good luck with your shirt sleeved feelers!
Does anyone know if Knewt hired Lewinsky? For sure, no guesses. Do the insiders post here? Her POCKETBOOK company went to hell. Are we going to see her on one of those " Where are they now?" shows?
I'm a Dem who never supported Clinton for his issues; but my issues with Gingrich are that he was FORCED to resign the gavel over ETHICS violations ---- BY HIS OWN PARTY!
And now,...all is forgiven and forgotten? I don't think so!
Yeee Hawwww!!!
Wow..this is shocking unexpected news...NOT!
Oooops.
YEAH!!! No new Texicans!!
The cream now rises to the top albeit white sour cream.
http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/205025-dems-receive-more-bain-dollars-than-gop
Texas - you still have hope.
Ginrcih/Perry 2012
Romeny/Perry 2012
Santorum/Perry 2012
Palin/Perry 2012
Wait a minute, I can see why Texas is "crying in it's beer" today, cuz none of these are going to happen.
Texas, you got your governor back full time now.
John: It's more like feces floats to the top.
Gee AL lucky us *sarcasm* ;)
I love this.....nobody is mentioning the loss of 200k jobs due a decision made by WHO.....Obama? Or was that Perrys fault too? 200k jobs just gone.....poof!! 200k tax payers turned down..."nope we don't want your tax dollars, we want the 1% folks to pay more." Only good thing about having an oil baron in office is they like oil jobs and we Americans LOVE our oil. But NO lets all beat down on those bad Oil growing Texans, we like our gas prices high and we love being in massive debt to the Chinese, in fact lets send them the 200k jobs bc we sure don't need them, do we Obama? What we need is more regulations, more, more, more regulations. And we need to step on the energy producers while we are at it bc hey they are not really producing anything useful, not like solyndra who has created thousands upon thousands of jobs...oh wait...whoops "Bad Obama"(slaps his hand).
So lets let you guys do some math here 200k jobs at oh lets just say 60k per person at a tax rate of 13% just for grins and giggles is how much extra revenue!!!??? How much lost revenue is that again???
Never ask anyone if they are from Texas......
If they are they will tell you on their own....
If there not why embarass them....
GOD Bless Texas!
Wind mill farm. We need a wind mill farm. Volunteers?
My hubbs and I are saving up to buy a windmill. not to get off the power grid but to at least contribute to our energy use. We live in the perfect area to have windmill farms but they are so expensive nobody will invest in more than one!
I remember him saying "I will never give up on America". WHAT A JOKE!
I am old and retired. This is one election I would like to vote for 'NONE OF THE ABOVE'.
You can do that in Nevada, hehe. In the USVI, we get to cast a NO VOTE ballot for all candidates, but we don't get to vote for president.
Amen.
Sorry Texas ... the big show proved too much for Rick ... he's on his way back home.
Another republican gone. Yeah! Anybody want to ask what the education meter is at with this group of clowns? Not only do they lie to support their disastrous political policies, they also go state to state and portray the residents in those states as whining racists. Good grief! Rick, take the rest of them with you. We are better off without this group of clowns from the right!
I don't know. It's kind of entertaining just watching them beat each other up over who is the most conservative and the most Chrisitan and has the best values and all. Amazing that we have this huge debt they complain about, but all they want to do cut taxes more. I was sort of hoping to get to watch that circus for a while longer...
Now maybe he can crawl back under the rock at his deer lease. I think a recall election is in order for Perry in Texas.
After his remark about the government of Turkey, I'm really glad that he is dropping out. He was certainly making a mockery of the Republican party. Well, I guess all of them, aside from Jon Huntsman, made a mockery of the GOP, but Rick Perry was the worst.
