In the final days leading up to the South Carolina primary, Newt Gingrich attacked Mitt Romney's tax rate revelation. NBC's Chuck Todd reports.
Mitt Romney leads among likely voters in Saturday's South Carolina GOP primary, though Newt Gingrich trails in second by a diminishing margin, according to a new poll released Wednesday.
Thirty-three percent of likely S.C. Republican primary voters expressed support for Romney heading into the Jan. 21 contest, according to a TIME/CNN/ORC poll, followed by 23 percent for Gingrich, the former speaker of the House.
That represents a narrowed lead for Romney over his next-closest competitor in the Palmetto State compared to the same poll conducted after the Iowa caucuses. Romney led former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum by 18 points in that poll, and held a 19-point advantage over Gingrich in that poll, conducted Jan. 4-5.
First Thoughts: Newt-mentum returns?
This new poll, conducted Jan. 13-17, reflects the narrowing race in South Carolina just days before voting in the state, where Romney hopes to pull off victory after having won both previous nominating contests in Iowa and New Hampshire. Completing that kind of trifecta could allow Romney to drive his opponents from the race.
The poll is also reflective of the closing momentum Gingrich is enjoying in South Carolina on the strength of more pointed criticism of Romney and other GOP foes. Gingrich also won praise for a strong showing in Monday night's debate, a performance he's hoping to duplicate in a debate on Thursday evening.
Gingrich's surge, though, has also prompted the Romney campaign to revive its offensive against the former House speaker in hopes of parrying his momentum before voting this weekend.
To that end, 35 percent of likely primary voters said they might change their mind on a candidate before Saturday, versus 57 percent who said they will definitely vote for the candidate for whom they expressed support in the poll.
Rounding out the field in South Carolina are Santorum at 16 percent, Texas Rep. Ron Paul at 13 percent and Texas Gov. Rick Perry at 6 percent.
NBC News and Marist College will release the results of a new poll conducted jointly on Thursday morning.
Looking ahead to the next primary, Florida's Jan. 31 primary, Romney enjoys an even stronger advantage, according to CNN/TIME/ORC figures also released Wednesday.
Forty-three percent of registered Republicans likely to vote in the Florida primary (which is limited to Republicans) said they back Romney. His next-closest competitors are Santorum at 19 percent and Gingrich at 18 percent. Nine percent of Florida Republicans would vote for Paul, who's not competing in the contest, while just 2 percent plan to vote for Perry.
The Florida poll, which was also conducted Jan. 13-17, has a 5 percent margin of error. The sample of likely South Carolina primary voters has a 4.5 percent margin of error.

The heat is on Willard...
Remember, never let em see you sweat!
Heaven forbid a hair falls out of place! lol
Well, he won Iowa by eight votes, Feisty, so he has a big cushion there.
Personally, if I were a SC Republican, I'd be so demoralized by now, by the attack ads and infighting, I'd stay home!
A couple threads back Dangerfield dropped a knowledge bomb regarding Romney that surprised even cynical old me.
In 2006, Romney started a program to provide welfare recipients without access to public transportation with free cars. The idea was to provide them with a way to get to work so they could eventually get off welfare.
The cars were donated by charities, while Massachusetts taxpayers funded — as the Boston Herald reported in 2009 — “repairs, registration, insurance, excise tax, the title and AAA membership for one year.”
Romney’s Department of Transitional Assistance started the program, officially called “Transportation Support,” and nicknamed “Welfare Wheels” by the Boston Herald.
nisl,
Here is the John McCain opposition research report for your reading pleasure...
Plenty more where that came from! ;o)
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=mitt%20romney%20opposition%20research&source=web&cd=8&ved=0CFwQFjAH&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.huffingtonpost.com%2F2012%2F01%2F17%2Fjohn-mccains-200-page-romney-research-book_n_1211965.html&ei=ez4XT876B8KIsgKb1KSiAg&usg=AFQjCNEMvs7zE-lqX_TEsBm3JPgfhyvHWA
nisl- Remember they gave us Bush, the drunk that blew an unimaginable hole in our vault. These same morons will worship Regan who was baffled that a taxi driver pay more in taxes than Romney and his WS bodies. They go en-mass by the direction of the wind.
Thanks Feisty.
I don't understand how Romney is a viable candidate for today's GOP. The "Welfare Wheels" program should disqualify him, it would likely disqualify him for the Democratic nomination as well.
And that is not all. Remember Willie Horton? Check this out, also via Dangerfield's knowledge bomb?
...What Santorum may or may not know is that, according to a 2011 analysis by the Boston Globe, “over the past 20 years, the percentage of inmates paroled while serving a life sentence … peaked in 2004″ — when Romney was governor — “and when all seven members of the state Parole Board had been appointed or reappointed by Republican governors.”
And that, according to the Boston Herald in 2008, “Some 118 killers and rapists were sprung early from prison under former Gov. Mitt Romney’s watch … allowed to walk out the gates by the Department of Correction by claiming so-called ‘good time’ that in some cases substantially reduced their sentences.”
That’s likely more of a concern to Republican primary voters than those ex-cons’ suffrage.
YAY Newty! Keep this thing going. Even I may have to send you money.
The longer it goes, the more pointed the sound bites are becoming.
The Democratic-leaning ads this fall will be SO much more entertaining than the Republican ads.
Once again, a Republican nominee who hasn't been properly vetted by the party?
Their bad. :)
Blew a hole in our vault, eh PEN?
Say how that vault been looking lo' these last three years? It's much better now that the 'drunk' is gone, right?
Interesting points nisl and danger, but we all know that the only real point these days is the economy. Dude gave cars to welfare recipients and criminals were paroled while he was gov?
Neat. Now cynical me thinks - gosh that was four years ago and all happened in a very blue state. There might have been some influence by some others, might not have been 100% Mitt's call.
Unlike, say Keystone. Now will it effect the price of gas? I filled up this a.m., at $3.73 per gallon. That is by far the highest I have ever paid in winter. And I'm hearing the 'experts' are projecting $5 this summer.
So as all the undecideds and independents go to fill up they are likely more apt to think, HMMM, I wonder if Keystone would have brought the cost of gas down, as opposed to, Man I can believe Mitt let the bad people out and tried to give cars to poor people.
He isn't! ;o)
Like all good GNOP sheep he waited his 'turn'...
Which is why the right wingers are already throwing a hissy fit! lol
Who would of ever guessed I would agree with Sarah Palin on something! lol
*OH... THE HORROR*
Spanky ... some reading homework for you

Love it Guys, I've been saying for a while that Mitts is a closet Liberal, A "Democrat in Drag" Thank for the info!!!
yea there's a great idea. another guy who's been bought by the banks.
who has a pretty face and the media wants to win. while the only other canadate who wants and can get REAL CHANGE ~ you know the platform obama led us to follow~ is deemed unelectable only becasue the media says so.
educate your selfs on the facts of the issues
and you will see ron paul is the only real choice...
if we pull out ever troop on earth and put them home. i ask you who in there right mind would even consider attacking us?
it doesnt make us safer to occupy the world. occupying the world gives reason to get attacked
I'm still a little puzzled that no one on the right here is outraged that the party of family values, the moral majority, the party of god, is parading out this admitted adulterer, fornicator, ethical reprobate as a candidate for president? To me, this is illuminating regarding what the party is really about and has been all along. If you can abandon these "moral"principles so easily then they apparently were not very important at all, maybe never, and the actual purpose for using them was to steer the weak minded.
This is in addition to the present god fearing governor from Texas said he does not lose any sleep over the state execution of a human being, even if they might have been innocent like Cameron Todd W.
How is this suddenly lost in the Christian state of SC?
Mitt Flip Flop Romney, the CORPERTE RAIDER and one time governor of Liberal Mass. Has supported Abortion, Gay Rights, Gun Control, Stem Cell Research and has reverse himself on all of these issues.
He took both sides on the financial bailout, the stimulus bill, the auto loan package;
His biggest Flip-Flop of all Health Care Reform The national Law is modeled on the one that he championed as governor in Mass that requires every citizen to have health insurance. Now he has Flipped-Flopped Mr. Flop has taken a hard slide to the right pandering to the tea party.
Mitt Flip-Flop Romney, a wishy-washy, flip flopping politician without any core convictions, principals or believes a man who will say or do anything to get elected telling one crowd one thing and another crowd another. You simply can’t trust this guy to tell you the truth.
The only good thing that would happen if Flip-Flop were to get elected It would prove that Conservatism is dead as Flip-Flop would stab the Conservatives in the back.
Mitt Flip Flop Romney LMAO!
Gingrich certainly has more emotional appeal, but Romney has more practical appeal - especially among Independents, which is where the November election will be decided.
Spanky--
Maybe then the Republicans should not have put an arbitrary date that was too early for a full review by the State Dept after KS decided there needed to be a new route for Keystone. If THEY really wanted to make sure that happened, as opposed to score points by forcing a no vote from Obama, they would have given an appropriate time line for the vote. Obviously even the Greenpeace people aren't totally confident Obama would have vetoed that project if it had been ideological vs procedural. But, then you'd have to be actually thinking about the process of the issues vs. just what the party tells you to believe.
Sanitarium won Iowa. Lets be correct.
Isn't SC an open primary? So get out and vote for Gingrich Dems. Best way to ensure an Obama victory in 2012.
-Obama 2012-
Roy,
Doesn't really matter. Either Mitt or Newt crushes Obama in a 1 on 1 'debate,' and beats him in the general election. Regardless of the prognastacative prattle, Republicans, Tea Partiers, and Conservative Independents will be galvanized leaving Tampa.
Obama gave us another gift today when he-at least temporarily-nixed the pipeline. The libs here and elsewhere can crow all they want while we watch the Republicans fight each other. Their laughter will fade when all guns turn toward Obama (OMG, a gun/Obama reference; they will all report that).
Expensive gas, unemployment, and inflation hurt Independents as much as they do Republicans and Democ Rats. Nov 2012, another 'Historic Shellacking!'
With 25% of the Vote Certified the margin was at 6 votes. At that point the Election Board said it would not comment further until Certification is completed, Tomorrow or Friday. Why the mum is the word?
Wednesday morning with all preliminary precincts reporting Romney won by 8
Then there was a discovery of a 20 point error in Santorums favor (he would win once verified) then another that was a 21 point error at another in Romney's favor, making the margin 9 in favor of Romney as certification began. . . .
Feisty, in the end you must have a little soft spot for old Willard.
Romney is an absolute vile human being, after the way he treated his dog he's not fit to be a dog-catcher.
He's an anti-semite to boot.
Oh it will be a shellacking Joe. But you'll be surprised on what will be the results.
Round up those billybobs for Gingrich - there's a gonna be a lynchin ....YeeHawww...
Fresh,
Again, keep telling yourself that. Obama trails significantly in the Swing States. He can't get over 50% in the polls and we haven't even come close to setting our nominee. No matter who that is, Obama is the one twiddling while Rome burns as he and his family-and dog-jet from vacation to vacation.
The only thing that will surprise me is if this beatdown is better than the last.
Technically, Obama is in a dead tie with Romney, whose chances of getting the nomination are gradually becoming dimmer (although it could change). And if Obama can keep a dead heat tie with all the crap that the GOP is flinging at him, I think he would do just fine during the general election, where Romney (or whoever the nominee) will be subject to browbeating debates, press conferences, and blistering ads. I know Obama is gonna run a negative ad campaign: not because he has nothing to run on, but because that is politics. You have to play dirty to win. I don't like it, but that's how it goes. Obama has made many mistakes, but he has also had impressive accomplishments. He took down bin Laden, sent a stimulus that rescued this nation from the brink of a new depression, regained and/or saved millions of jobs, brought our economy back (check the 22 months of private sector job creation and the recovering stock indexes), showed maturity and brilliance during the debt debate in 2011 and the payroll tax cut by COMPROMISING (balanced deficit reduction package, paid for tax cuts), and offering a jobs plan that would create 2 million jobs, rebuild our infrastructure, and wouldn't add a penny to our cumulative deficits. So I think he has a pretty good chance of winning. And Republicans in Congress aren't doing so well compared to Democrats (although both are in the muck), so I think the Dems can at least maintain control of the Senate and could make huge gains (but probably not conquer) in the House. So don't be so cocky, Joe.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
Fresh,
They are neck and neck percentagewise. Obama loses in the Swing States. Therefore he loses in the Electoral College. That's what matters.
Everything else you purport is garbage. That is why Obama finds himself in such a bad position. Because if what you dream were true we wouldn't even be having this debate.
Nor would Obama and the Democ Rats had their collective clocks cleaned in '10. But that did happen. And it is primed to happen again in '12. It's not cockiness; it's just reality.
How is it reality?? The chances of the GOP taking the Senate is numerically more than the Democrats strengthening their position, but then again Americans are tired with the bickering from BOTH sides. And FWI, Obama hasn't been campaigning full mode. Once he starts doing that after the nomination, it is gonna be a tough fight. Romney (or whoever the nominee is) is going to have to deal with three things during the election: the fractured Republican Party (see how conservatives and Tea Party members are desperate to find an anti-Romney); the fact that Ron Paul's supporters could leave the GOP and flock to him if he runs as an Independent; and the American people's disgust for the partisanship in Congress, all thanks to the GOP. For example: the American people saw during the 2011 summer debt crisis how the GOP was stubborn on keeping tax increases off the table, even for the wealthy; but then during the payroll tax cut they saw the reluctance of the GOP to agree to the payroll tax cut EVEN THOUGH it was for the middle class and WOULD BE PAID FOR. Plus the GOP has sabotaged many bills in Congress, like Obama's plan to create 2 million jobs without adding a dime to the deficit or his balanced debt deal, which could have kept our credit rating, reduced our debt by $4 trillion over 10-12 years, and do so in a balanced way by cutting spending, reforming entitlements and the tax code, and just a sprinkling of tax increases. In addition, Americans are becoming more disconnected with the Republicans: Mitt Romney because he is a wealthy man and he pays less in taxes than many citizens; Newt Gingrich is increasingly hostile to moderators and can't watch his mouth when addressing problems concerning the poor Americans (does telling the OWS to shower and get a job ring a bell?); Rick Santorum has probably no chance among moderate and independent voters due to his philosophy and anti-abortion and gay marriage views; and Ron Paul's ideas are too radical for the majority of our nation's voters. Plus the GOP keeps associated themselves with evangelical Christians and cry class warfare whenever a Democrat proposes to pay for something with eliminating certain tax breaks for the wealthy. So I think that Obama and the Democrats have a good chance at winning. Doesn't mean that they will definitely win, but the GOP is looking very weak with its fractured party base.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
FIX THE MISTAKE WE MADE IN 2010
And if your going to point out that the GOP was protesting the payroll tax cut because it would cut into entitlements, I have two things for you: first is that it was going to be PAID FOR by a simple tax on millionaires (not the end of the world or the beginning of class warfare). And secondly: SINCE WHEN DOES THE GOP GIVE A DAMN ABOUT ENTITLEMENTS?? For years they have been railing on ending Medicare and replacing it with private insurance which is getting more expensive by the day. So I think it is very weird that the GOP spends many resources trying to end entitlements but suddenly gives a damn about SS when a cut in the payroll taxes would be funded by a small tax on millionaires, who by the way NEED TO PAY A FAIR SHARE!!!!!!!!!!
Fresh,
Has nothing to do with taking the Senate. Although that is certainly not a bad bet as the Dems must defend the bulk of seats up for election. Probably not enough for a super majority though.
Obama has been in perpetual campaign mode. And all of the strife in the GOP will end when their is a nominee, just like it did with the Dems in '08. You keep ignoring the big issue in this election being the economy. It's not good and it's not going to make any vast improvements with Obama continuing to do things like effectively banning Gulf Drilling or nixing the new pipeline, while defending the Solyndra debacle in his first campaign ad.
As I told you the first time, all of your if, ands, and what fors, don't matter. Obama has lost the vast majority of independents on no jobs, no jobs, and no jobs. All of the negative rhetoric will not bring them back. That's why he has lost all of the swing states which propelled him to victory in '08. That's why '12 will be a repeat of the glorious victory (against him) in '10.
You're right: the economy isn't great. But it is a helluva lot better than it was during the end of Bush's administration. And FWI, the economy is IMPROVING. Check out the 22 months of private sector employment growth. Check the decreasing unemployment rate and the resurgent stock market. Ask the economists who give Obama a kudos for his stimulus package.
As for the banning of offshore drilling, that was done after the Gulf Oil spill of 2010 and is reasonable. Although it might be time to lift the ban, we still have to be mindful of the dangers of offshore drilling.
And Obama was right to reject the Keystone pipeline. IT RAN OVER A MAJOR AQUIFER for Christ's sake. If Obama approved the plan, you would criticize him if an oil spill ruined Nebraska, you would still criticize him even if he didn't approve it. Plus the oil it ships emits dangerous gases and is a threat to our environment. Plus Transcanada is going to apply for another route to build the pipeline, so calm down your sorry ass and give it a rest.
And Obama has not lost the majority of independents. He has lost a lot due to the state of the economy and the lack of action in Washington, but that doesn't mean that they are 100% ready to jump ship to the GOP, with Mitt the flip-floppin' fat cat; Newt the conservative powder keg ready to blow; Ron Paul the right-wing radical; and Rick Santorum the anti-freedom conservative mastermind. I doubt that Independents will shift right in massive droves. And Obama has not yet lost the swing states, and he might win them if he campaigns effectively and downplays the negative rhetoric that the GOP will spout out.
And FWI, I am gonna bet that at least 50% of the BS spouted during this election year will be coming from the mouth of right wing anti-Obama killing machine.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
Seek the truth Joe, or be prepared to be dragged down by the sinking SS Republican Party.
Not great? It's awful. The real unemployment 15.5%. The only reason things are improving is that the '10 Landslide has kept Obama/Reid/Pelosi from continuing to make things even worse.
The Gulf spill was overblown. Here in Central Florida there was virtually no effect, other then the great loss of tourism suffered because idiot Gov Barack Crist declared a State of Emergency when there was none. The EPA and all the states took 3 years to check the route of Keystone. Everyone involved was satisfied that the route was fine. Obama vetoed it only to play to his Algore Environazi Whackjob friends.
Obama has lost the super majority of Independents. That's why as a sitting POTUS he can't even poll over 50% against any named-or even unnamed-contender. That's just weak. By the time the election comes he will have piled $6.5 TRILLION on our debt with nothing of consequence to show for it.
He's toast.
There is no real choice in this field. They all agree on the iron bound, set in stone republican platform. The only thing left is to beat up on each other. Every one of them is in the pocket of grover norquist now that Huntsman is gone.
Actually, there is a REAL choice...
The Neo-Cons and their God is on our side platform, or,
The only candidate that is talking Liberty and REAL Republicanism.
There is a choice and liberty is winning I do believe.
Actually the choices are Big Moderate vs. Conservative intellectual free spirit vs conservative hothead, vs Unknown Conservative, vs a Libertarian who needs to sit down, shut up, and go home.
Nothing like tightening poll numbers to provide a little high anxiety for Romney who seems to be under the impression it's his turn. Maybe Romney got battered in Monday's debate more than the analysts and media thought.
What I find interesting in this year's GOP primary season is the high percentages of undecided and "might change" voters.
But Jody, it is Romney's turn.
It's his turn to be defeated by Obama/Biden.
Actually if you watched the after debate conversation with the three political insiders, (one being Bachmann's former campaign manager) they said that Mitts was HURT badly by his lack of response and his indecisiveness during the debate... The Grinch mopped the floor with Mitts.....
You knw Egilman
One thing you got to hand to the Ginch at least you know where he stands he is not a FLIP - FLOPing politician without any core convictions, principals or believes like Mr. FLOP Romney
I don't know how anyone could support Romney. Might as well vote for Ronald McDonald.
Spew all the sh!t you want about the republican candidates. NONE, i repeat NONE will beat Obama this fall. They can tour and spend ALL they want but it is NEVER going to happen. Better start lookin for 2016 repubs.
Umm the keystone dump will gain him lots of green money for the campaign, you better hope that makes up for the votes he lost on that decision.
Knock on wood, so far it has been fairly quiet (although haven't had the tv on a great deal) . I imagine that will change dramatically after Saturday.
And nobody likes Rick "never lost an election' Perry!....Too funny!
The problem with Ricky Perry is he forgot his propeller beanie....
A comment from Mr. phinephancy to FR: Mitt Romney was born into wealth and has absolutely no clue how the rest of America lives.
(I did that for him since he hung up my new curtains)
Egilman,
Thanks for the image. Quite fitting actually, and really funny.
Are you sure it was Romney's campaign and not his Super PAC? Remember, they can't coordinate!
Wink-wink!
That was another one the Grinch hit outta the park against Mitts, mitt's wasn't doing too well at that point.
wow eagle man...you sure are impressed easily...newts a turd...and I though by your postings you would see thru that...but guess not...I dont know ONE person who would vote for newt...and I own a bar in Colorado...what used to be a red state...well good luck to your pasty faced gay boy newt...he is going to need it..
Rasmussen has it at a 3 pt spread 30% Romney 27% Gingrich so who to believe? Believe this.......Newt has upward momentum with 3 days left and Romney is on the slide. South Carolina is no New Hampshire! Stop Mitt cold in his tracks SC and send the RNC a message that we are so tired of them picking our Presidential nominees.
That's exactly what the Grinch wants to do, send a message that if you screw me I'm going to screw back. He (the Grinch) has been this pissed since Iowa and what they did to him there.
You are all a bunch of losers anyway, who cares.
Newt is trying to thread the needle of being tough without looking to bad to not be nominated. One of the reasons Newt fell back is because Santorum has been what Newt has lost and some to boot. Santorum doesn't have the baggage of Newt or Romney.
Gingrich dropped his Newtron bomb on Willard the last debate and the "fallout" got Paul.
Nope, it only seems like it did, Newt was aiming directly at Mitts on his indecisiveness, Dr Paul stood to his message, which the Grinch people didn't like, but the good Dr's people do, this is the Grinch's territory, if he cannot destroy mitts here, he needs to drop out.
It's a statistical dead heat, and the attack has only started. The war between Mitts and the Grinch only benefits one, Dr Paul.....
and if Newt drops out who gets the support. Paul thinks it's him, but it's not In the last 4 weeks more than what Newt has lost has gone to Santorum. This is a dicey situation. If either Santorum or Newt quits, the other should get the support of the other. Either way - it leads to an actual Conservative Republican. And one is more conservative than the other.
A poll I saw, don't remember which one, says that Romney is ahead in SC and Gingrich is just a few points behind him with Paul a DISTANT third followed by Santorum and in last place in single digets is Perry.
Because he will be in second Gingrich will still be a pesky little thorn in Mitt's side in Florida and maybe into Super Tuesday but Mitt will pull far enough ahead that Newt will drop out. Paul is in it for the long haul. He may run as an independant which would be great. It would siphon votes off the Republicans as the extremists would vote for Paul or stay home and the moderates would vote for Romney. This split will give Obama a cake-walk victory.
Other than Hillary's health care reform, based on Romney's plan, Obama has followed through on more of John McCain's campaign promises than his own. He bailed out the banks, he bailed out Fannie and Freddie, he extended the Bush tax cuts, and he supported the Patriot Act and is asking for a "revised" version of SOPA.
There are a lot of liber-als ready for some liber-ty.
Lieberman showed it was possible.
Its time to flush the Democrats and Republicans down the toilet.
I, personally, am getting bored with the whole GOP show. Those peolpe have not come up with anything different to say, and don`t look like they`re going to I1ll wait till the real election and then start paying attention again.
People need to look past all the media to see that there finally is a choice. One man and only man has predicted 10 years ago,
everything bad that is transpiring today. There is a short 4 minute video located at
or southcarolinaprimary.org/?page_id=74
(cut and paste it if you have to) that proves he knew the mess would be in in 2002.
The question is "can we afford not to elect him"
You decide.
Hah. The took the link out. You need to go southcarolinaprimary.org
TPT,
A vote for you my friend....
I can only say one thing, THANK YOU! If you want to know WHY we support Dr Paul the way we do,
YOU NEED TO REVIEW THIS VIDEO!
Dr Paul is the Sharpest knife in the Drawer! WE NEED him in the Oval Office!
My Name is Egilman, And I approve this message!

There is no good choice in this whole group. Worst set of presidential candidates in the last 60 years. Just to show you how bad, where's Dan Quayle when you need him.
Anything with a pulse will beat Obama, including my 70 year old wrist.
Bush was bad, Obama was worse, and a Mitt Romney will out do both of those guys. The Corporate American Poster Child, along with Gingrich, Santorum, and Perry, all have a mutual interest...keeping the corrupt Washington establishment, the status quo just as it is.
Only one Candidate states loudly and clearly that he wants to dismantle the corrupt Washington syndicate and put control of government back into the peoples hand. For his statements, he is chided, ridiculed, and ignored by most politicians, but I believe those responses are a way to hide the fact that they are scared sh*tless of him. If the Presidential Election isn't rigged, Ron Paul should win, and we will owe him a SEnate and Congress filled with his supporters.
In my opinion, he has already put himself at great personal risk... for the American people.
I love it how some of you don't know your history! But you kiss Romney's azz like it was the bible law!
2, yes, 2 Republican Presidents gave us Infrastructure with taxpayer money using Labor! Any guesses?
Lincoln gave us the Railroad throughout the US, Eisenhower gave us the Natio's US Highways! All paid for with taxpayer money. So, for Romney to say that Government does not create jobs; BS! Check it out, look it up!
The truth is Government created railroad jobs and making US highway jobs! Ah, what about the New Deal after the 1929 crash? There again, Governmnent Infrastructer Jobs paid for with taxpayer money! WWII got in the way for a faster recovery, but they got it done!
What was built? Highways, dams, public works, electric power, buildings, parks, flood and erosion control! And guess what you goons! SPENDING WAS INCREASED to pay for everything and get this country out of a DEPRESSION! Sound familiar?
President Obama had to increase spending to keep this country afloat after Wall Street Collapsed and brought this country to a standstill along with the 6 big banks!
You all know the president had to hire police, firefighters, and teachers back because no bank was making any loans to any state.
Its time you kids learned the history of this country! Shame on you!
Keep them honest. Good job!
Debra Pilla
These statements remind me of one of the greatest republican campaign slogans ever coined.
Without Labor, there would be no Capital.
This is a pro labor slogan dating all the way back to 1871 or 72 I believe. I also believe (I could be wrong) that it was first published in the Scott County Kicker (Benton Mo.) August 15 1916.
The origin of the slogan stems from a speech given by Abraham Lincoln "Annual Address Before the Wisconsin State Agricultural Society" at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, September 30, 1859.
This is the kind of Republicanism that Dr Paul supports, and I LOVE... (neo-cons HATE this stuff)
But,
Most Economists of good repute of any political stripe view the New Deal as hindering the recovery by approximately 10 years. Pretty much classrooms of today, much like the classrooms of my day are teaching that FDR's New Deal was a failure.
Again,
Actually the same aforementioned economists but now accentuated by the voices of most historians of repute, state clearly that it was the wage and price controls of the WPB (War Production Board) and the complete takeover of American industry by the government coupled with the MASSIVE deficit spending is what started the economy on the path to recovery during WWII.
Here,
Yep created a lot of temporary jobs, but once the projects were done the workers became unemployed again, this is why it failed to restart the economy. Think of it as an economy on life support, this method is like the patient in the hospital on life support, pull the plug he dies. Without massive and continuous infusions of cash through government programs, the economy dies a slow death. This was the clear failure of the New Deal, and is the clear failure of both Tarp and the stimulus package and would have been the failure of that so called Jobs Bill.
(although they would have created a few thousand jobs in the new government agency it would have created AIFA, a 3 billion Dollar Agency to oversee (read bank) the infrastructure lending program.)
I think you need to learn some history also or go back to the school and get a refund, they didn't do a very good job.
I find this poll very very fishy. You are telling me all the senators in south carolina back Ron Paul, and yet somehow, magically , magic underwear romney is in the lead. try again. the lies are way too big to believe. and slimy newt gingrich is finished by monday. so kiss him goodbye once and for all.
Ron Paul will leave and start a second or third Party! This will split the ticket! Mitt not a shoe in! If he is in then the Democrats will take the Congress Back. Don't think that is a good thing but it's a fact with no real challenger by the Republicans
You guys don't really read much do you?
The Grinch is staying in because he wants to beat up Mitts the establishment candidate for what the establishment did to him in Iowa.
There are MANY state politicians who have come out in support of Dr Paul, but it's never reported. The Exit Polls from Iowa the ones the media refused to use showed Dr Paul won Iowa with 37% the establishment is in a war to stop Dr Paul from winning.
Dr Paul is NOT going to go a third party route he's tired of telling people this, what is going to happen is his supporters will either not vote or will write his name in anyway, this is where the vote gets split.
After the last debate the Establishment is beginning to figure out that without the Good Dr and his supporters, they will lose.
Dr Paul will NOT take the VP slot, so yes if the Republicans want to beat Obama, they had better get behind Dr Paul, if they don't Obama gets a second term.
The real hard part for me as a true conservative, is the establishment idiots running the republican party are just beginning to figure this out.
Ahhhhh yes Mitty .....the new white OBAMA.............
romney doesnt have to do anything...the VAST majority of republicans will not vote for newt...period...they HATE him...so all romney has to do is let newt implode..the only people he impresses are the feeble minded..he attacks with no follow up...but since he is such an unkempt ugly POS...it comes across as foolish and narcissistic...the old guard GOP has seen this peacock act before...and it went no where...newt is toast...
Newt Gingrich has his momentum from the last debate but this will not last. It takes a lot more than good debates to win an election. He is a walking time bomb! He has made many mistakes, the most recent one so far was his war with Mitt Romney against free enterprise! I am sure he will make many more mistakes before the primary and I believe he will never be a viable competitor. As much as people want to believe Mitt Romney has a lot to hide, I don't believe he does but he needs to speak out more to defend his taxes and his dealings with Bain. He has done nothing illegal but liberals are painting an ugly picture for Romney as the out of touch 1%er. He needs to defend himself more because those vultures from Obama's campaign will be ready to attack him 10 times worse than his rivals.
Don't you just wish you had a viable Candidate to run! Hell Mitt makes Palin start to look good. Gee McCain Palin last time and now nothing this time. Can't you guys find someone to run??
Mitt Romney will be the candidate to run and beat Obama. I know the liberals have issues with him because he is considered part of your evil 1 percenters but I have absolutely no problem with Romney. He is a smart business man who graduated at the top of his class in Harvard and became very successful on his own. I know there is a lot of resentment for many of you out there because he is a wealthy man and want to find excuses on how he made his money but I will tell you one thing, he has done nothing illegal and no one will find any dirt from his past. He will know what to do to get jobs, much better than Obama who never had job experience and it shows in this administration.
It's OK the Wealthy 1% will vote for him and he will lose as the American People say no not this time to a person out of touch with the People as was McCain
No, The American people (the 1% and the 99%) will vote for Romney because they realize it is about getting jobs, not losing jobs, they will vote for him because he knows how the ecomony works, how to get jobs, not because he represents the 1%.
But Romney doesn't know how GOVERNMENT works. Sure he worked as a governor and balanced the budget there, but states are a helluva lot different than the nation as a whole. For one thing, Romney complains about how Obama made the recession worse, even though his stimulus saved us from a depression and his policies have ensured 22 months of private sector job growth. In addition, Romney has no idea how to speed up the economy or solve the debt crisis.
For the economy part, Romney thinks that tax cuts and deregulation will work. It could, up to a point, but regulations and the tax code are't the main obstacles that our economy faces. We need more jobs (and less than 1% of the jobs we lost were due to regulations, fwi), and in order to do that the government AND the private sector need to team up to help the economy. We should copy the Germans, who may have a "European socialistic welfare state" but also have lower debt burdens, the strongest economy in Europe, and is the world's largest exporter, second only to China and the US. We also need to invest more money in domestic energy and education so we can create jobs and stimulate demand.
As for the debt, Romney thinks we should gut spending and entitlements while keeping tax breaks for the wealthy, taxing the little guy, AND letting the bloated defense budget expand. At least Obama has the nerve to tell the American people that we need both tax increases AND spending cuts (plus entitlement savings), and asks ALL Americans to pay their fair share. Romney's tax plan would decrease tax revenue and give massive tax breaks to the 1% while taxing the little guy. Obama offered a plan to cut the deficit by $4 trillion over 12 years: not a lot, but it is a good start. Plus it was balanced with cuts to discretionary spending and defense, entitlement savings, and revenue increases by ending tax breaks for the wealthy.
Plus I think many Americans are polarized by the fact that he pays less in taxes then they do and his tax plan proposes cuts for the wealthy but increases for those who make less than $30,000.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
Mitt is Carter all over again in a different Party!
No, I think you meant to say Obama is Carter all over again but worse. We are regressing back to the years of the Carter admistration under Obama except that Obama has given us a record level debt! I guess Democrats do not learn from their mistakes.
No I meant Mitt! No ability to lead, Make a decision, no plan for the economy, or rather no substance in we must do something. Hell Newt at least says something!
Sorry, I do not see it that way. Romney has a plan for the economy and he has been very vocal about it. Maybe you should look up his plan on the web if you have not heard it. He has many great ideas to turn the economy around! He has a lot more substance than Obama. All Obama has done in this administration is run away from making decisions and legislation and blame the other party for not getting anything done. All he knows how to do is campaign. Yes, so much for leadership. Newt Gingrich does alot of talking but he is too unpredictable. He could be dangerous. Romney is definitely more grounded
When Mitt is talking to the people he does more introducing his family kids then he has anything to say in definite terms about the Country. Too many regulations! Better watch giving away the control and the Financial markets as Bush did and destroyed the economy. Frankly neither Party has done the right thing for the Country. If there was a good plan both would reject it and that is why we need a third Party!
Perhaps you are only seeing what the media is showing you about Mitt Romney. Ofcourse he is going to campaign with his family, it is all part of campaigning. What do you expect. It is not all he does. I have heard him speak at campaign rallies. He has a lot to say about his plans on fixing the economy. A good plan will not get rejected if Romney knows how to communicate it and work with both parties to find the solution (he has had to do this as Governor in Massachussets and succeeded). Not divide the 2 parties like Obama did.
Romney has a plan "Believe in America" that clearly states that there are 1.25 million high skilled jobs as of last spring that could be filled by educated IMMIGRANTS to help get our economy going.
READ THE PDF! Use "Control+F" and look for 1.25 million
Mitt believes in America, just not Americans.
READ HIS PLAN!
All a "moderator" accomplishes is orchestrate the bills so both party's have steam shoveled enough lobby driven pork into the bill they will pass it. Oh boy, what a team player..... to the lobby's.
The Presidency is real easy. If the bankers, oil companies and military contractors hate your guts and are doing everything they can to make sure you don't win......... you will be a good President.
If not then you are just another President lobby bought stooge that will continue to let the lobby's run Washington.
come on newtie split that party asunder baby
He and Paul will!
Newt is on a mission to destroy Mitts, Dr Paul is trying to bring the party back to it's roots and reject the Neo-Con Dixicrats from the party.
Must admit that Obama did the wrong thing not bringing in the Pipe Line! Hell jobs and oil. The hell with the enviromentalist! They will think different with no heat!
I can't believe anyone would consider voting for Newt. He is the poster child for what's wrong with Washington. Sure he is a silver tongued devil, but he is a hypocrite, a cheater, and a man who knows how to manipulate the system and people for his own benefit. You can be sure he will be as true to the American people as he was with his wife.
Good points! Problem Mitt is so weak he does not have this thing locked up! Stupid things like adding on to his house! 12 million to do so! Similar to McCain not knowing how many houses he owned. These guys are out of touch with the American People and will not make it. Regan grew from the Ranks and went up!
Why do you assume because someone is wealthy that they are out of touch with the American People? Do you feel that way about John. F. Kennedy? He was worth hundreds of millions of dollars, not from money he made on his own like Romney did but from his trust fund from his family's bootleg business. Do you think he was out of touch with the American people???
Maybe Bill Clinton could give some instruction to both Parties!
I was not excited about Clinton's policies, he came into office leading from the far left but I have grown to respect him after realizing his far left policies were not working and he actually compromised with both parties and got a lot done, this guaranteed him a second term. Obama needs to take lessons from Bill Clinton.
Clinton took office riding the "money wave" of the DotCom bubble. Tax money and jobs were falling out of the sky. A chimp could have come out of that Presidency smelling like a rose. Clinton looked like a hero because everything that came up in Congress got paid for with the Social Security surplus. It was raining IOU"s into the SS Fund. Because of all the SS surplus an urban legend sprouted that he created a surplus. No national debt paid down.... no surplus. The rest is just inter-governmental holdings musical chairs.
Clinton signed the absolute worst piece of legislation in this country since the Federal Reserve Act in 1915. Clinton repealed the Glass Steagall Act which is what caused the meltdown to go viral and throw us into a depression. He also started the platform that turned into a stampede of jobs out of the country.
With all the crap Obama has signed into law Clinton looks like a Cub Scout. As far as creating debt, advancing corporate power and moving wealth from the middle class to the rich Obama is in a league all by himself.
OBAMA/BIDEN or CLINTO 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wish Bill could run again. Smartest one of them all.
All of you Ron Paul supporters are fully aware of this, right?

False accusation
Newton Leroy's so called momentum has been fueled by Palin and the TEA party extremist. Palin keeps crawling out of her FOX-hole and getting "Airtime". We are sick and tired of her shenanigans. No one really cares what she thinks or says after Katie Couric's questioning. This one-time loser and quitter deserves no more exposure except and asterisk in history books. With all of Gingrich's baggage and being full of himself, I wonder why and how anyone could back this fallen bigot? Newton is seeking solace by being in the mix and not bringing any substance to the debates. Saying they should not tear each other down from one side of his mouth and doing that very thing from the other side. Talk about two-faced! Wake up America! This current Congress holds the economy hostage while the rich get richer. The concentration of wealth in the hands of fewer and fewer people and the concentration of power in stricter, less compassionate hands in all aspects of local, state and the federal government has colored the TEA/GOP/Republicans as the tormentors of the American dream. If you are tired of the extremist tactics and their confrontational attitude, Vote Democratic and effect real change.
Uhhh... we tried letting the Democrats run the country. All they did was pillage the treasury, ruin the credit and destroy the currency... oh and start more wars.
When we shift to the Republicans "for change" we get them pillaging the treasury, ruining the credit and destroying the currency.
Any mainstream party candidate is the same. Party's only matter on social issues. The same banking, oil and military contractor lobby's own both party's. Neither party has cut either defense or entitlement spending. Neither party does anything but expand the federal government, centralize more power into fewer people, destroy individual rights, ignore the constitution and create debt.
Break the cycle of futility and vote for Ron Paul. He is the only candidate from either party no supported by massive corporate lobby's. He never has been supported by them and never will be either.
It's getting smoky in here.
I think the Republican brains are on fire
Newt is moving up because all the evangelical have figured out he is the one most likely to annihilate the ragheads. The evangelicals combined with all the military contractor employees in this state are backing Newt. They want more military contract spending, more bombs and more deaths. They either profit directly through employment or have a religious zealot agenda to destroy the Muslim world.
The priorities of most voters in this country simply boggle the mind. This is what happens when you run a $1.7 trillion dollar deficit and let politicians run on a platform of continuing that debt... oops I mean "job sustaining".
It was comical when they asked Ron Paul in the debate if he would cut military spending despite South Carolina being dependent on arms sales and wars for employment. Since when is our foreign policy or defense budget dictated by employment numbers and stock prices? How in all God's name do we justify propping up employment by invading countries, killing and destroying things?
I guess we could solve the unemployment problem by simply invading several more countries and employing everyone with deficit spending building the arms to destroy those countries. We could actually figure a formula on how many civilians we have to kill to keep employment numbers stable and stocks up.
Yep, Eisenhower warned us of the coming Congressional coupe of the military contractors. Arms production is this country's largest business and export. Newt is all over this military contractor lobby like bee to honey.
