Sarah Palin on Tuesday urged South Carolina voters to support Newt Gingrich in their GOP presidential primary, offering the closest thing to an endorsement the former Alaska governor may come before this weekend's contest.
“If I had to vote in South Carolina, in order to keep this thing going, I’d vote for Newt and I would want this to continue,” Palin said during a FOX News interview Tuesday night.
Her support for the former House speaker, however, was somewhat qualified. Palin said she believed it would be best for the primary campaign to continue, so as to continue to add scrutiny to candidates and forge their strength as an eventual nominee against President Obama.
“More debates, more vetting of candidates because we know the mistake made in our country four years ago was having a candidate that was not vetted, to the degree that he should have been,” Palin explained. “I want to see that taking place this time because America is on this precipice — it’s that important. We need this process to continue."
“We think its a pretty darn clear call to arms,” Gingrich campaign spokesman R.C. Hammond told NBC News shortly after Palin made these comments this evening.
The conservative vote in South Carolina remains split between Gingrich, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and Texas Gov. Rick Perry going into the closing days before the Jan. 21 primary in the state.
Each has been rallying voters behind their candidacy as the conservative alternative to Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who would see as the heavy favorite to win the nomination if he were to score a victory in South Carolina.
“If you consolidate the three conservative candidates, we clearly would have a huge margin over Romney, and the challenge for me is to convince conservatives to come home and have a single candidate on Saturday,” Gingrich told a crowd in Florence, S.C. today.
Palin offered words of flattery for Gingrich beyond her support this weekend, crowning him the winner of a Monday night debate. Her husband, Todd Palin, has formally endorsed Gingrich for president.
"Newt Gingrich is a true leader, which he has proven not only since the beginning of his campaign, but throughout his career,” Todd Palin said in a written statement sent out by the Gingrich campaign on Jan. 9.
It is still unknown if either Palin will actually campaign for Speaker Gingrich on the trail.

The push for Romney from the left is louder than it was in 2008 for McCain. In 2008, my liberal neighbors were telling me they wanted McCain because they weren't sure if Obama could win. McCain was their fall-back candidate. It doesn't look good this time for the libs because the conservatives that were split among four candidates now see Gingrich as the one to beat Romney. You combine the Santorum, Perry and Gingrich votes, Romney is toast.
Ultimately neither Gingrich, Romney or Santorum have a chance Larry, Moe, Currly Joe and Rick Perry as Shemp.

Romney has not been ahead double digits in any poll. If Santorum drops out, Gingrich will in the 40% range. With Palin's endorsement, some Santorum and Perry votes may go to Gingrich anyway whether they drop out or not.
so Palin thinks she is still relevant, she's a legend in her own mind.
Better wait until Saturday before making that conclusion. She has more influence than you lefties would admit.
Only if SC has crazies there. And liberals don't care if she has influence or not, just saying if she did she would not have disappeared like she has, and that would show just how out of touch you righties are that you would even look to Palin as anything other than a menopausal woman.
Oh...believe me, lu...as one who currently lives in S.C....work-related!....I can assure you that this state has enough crazies to vote for Gingrich. But only if Santorum ultimately says he's pro-gay, pro-abortion, pro-Womens Lib...and that he wears pink lacy panties.

If this Alaskan hillbilly is for Newt than I will say it is safe to say he's dead in the water. That is one endorsement I would dread. Newt is not a real man of faith look at his personal and professional record he just hides behind the Catholic moniker.
Newt, he's totally the ladies man. He's so sexy that Sarah just couldn't help but remind us that she's still cruising America in her oversized trailer trying remain semi-relevant. Good thing too. I had almost forgotten her.
I'm opposed to Newt Gingrich for president, but he doesn't deserve the kiss of death. He must have been horrified when he heard. If not ... oh well.

Don't know what Liberal media you were watching but for most of 2008 I couldn't change a channel without seeing Jeremiah Wright, Tony Rezko or Bill Ayers. We all know that in some way or another these people were all a part of Barack Obama's past. You heard of those people just like I did. You know why? THATS CALLED VETTING!

1. Gingrich was not found guilty of a single ethics violation. He agreed to pay the cost of the investigation.
2. A subsequent IRS investigation CLEARED Gingrich of any violation.

I'm not sure who this Palin woman is, is she related to Monty Python alum Michael Palin? Either way, I can't imagine why anyone would give a damn about what she has to say. But, thanks for your input lady, now please go away.

Ron Paul has proven to stick to what he promises,, a very rare commodity in poliitians.
