Palin urges SC voters to support Gingrich in primary

Sarah Palin on Tuesday urged South Carolina voters to support Newt Gingrich in their GOP presidential primary, offering the closest thing to an endorsement the former Alaska governor may come before this weekend's contest.

“If I had to vote in South Carolina, in order to keep this thing going, I’d vote for Newt and I would want this to continue,” Palin said during a FOX News interview Tuesday night.

Her support for the former House speaker, however, was somewhat qualified. Palin said she believed it would be best for the primary campaign to continue, so as to continue to add scrutiny to candidates and forge their strength as an eventual nominee against President Obama.

“More debates, more vetting of candidates because we know the mistake made in our country four years ago was having a candidate that was not vetted, to the degree that he should have been,” Palin explained. “I want to see that taking place this time because America is on this precipice — it’s that important. We need this process to continue."

“We think its a pretty darn clear call to arms,” Gingrich campaign spokesman R.C. Hammond told NBC News shortly after Palin made these comments this evening.

The conservative vote in South Carolina remains split between Gingrich, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and Texas Gov. Rick Perry going into the closing days before the Jan. 21 primary in the state.

Each has been rallying voters behind their candidacy as the conservative alternative to Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who would see as the heavy favorite to win the nomination if he were to score a victory in South Carolina.

“If you consolidate the three conservative candidates, we clearly would have a huge margin over Romney, and the challenge for me is to convince conservatives to come home and have a single candidate on Saturday,” Gingrich told a crowd in Florence, S.C. today.

Palin offered words of flattery for Gingrich beyond her support this weekend, crowning him the winner of a Monday night debate. Her husband, Todd Palin, has formally endorsed Gingrich for president.

"Newt Gingrich is a true leader, which he has proven not only since the beginning of his campaign, but throughout his career,” Todd Palin said in a written statement sent out by the Gingrich campaign on Jan. 9.

It is still unknown if either Palin will actually campaign for Speaker Gingrich on the trail.

I had hoped this self-important bimbo/swine had fallen in a hole and wouldn't be heard from again until I didn't care anymore. Just nothing really good to say about her and her family.

There are multiple levels of fail in that twisted introductory sentence, many involving the terrible specter of the word "come" used in the context of Sarah Palin. I'm off to my therapy session now.

First, if you decide on which candidate to vote for based on another person's opinion and not your own informed decision, you shouldn't vote at all. If what Sara Palin says sways you one way or the other, you shouldn't vote at all. You should vote on your knowledge of the candidates and not what anyone else says about the candidates. I can look at Newt and can mark him off my list due to the way he treated his ex-wife during cancer treatment. I can look at Romney and mark him off for the way he treated his dog. I can mark Perry off for saying we should have another war. I can knock Sand---wha'eve for making the ridiculous statement that states should ban contraception. Now that leaves Ron. I don't feel like he is strong enough to be a world leader based on my own opinion and I haven't seen the mud slung at him to sway my opinion. Bottom line, I wish people would remember that only Jesus Christ was and ever will be perfect. We have to look beyond the imperfections and look for what is best for our country. However, I was for Romney and even if it was 25 years ago, the dog thing got me. That is right up there with what Gingrich did to his wife.

That sound you hear...? The nails in Newt's coffin. You gotta give it to her though. Not many politicians can unite people and look ...just out of common disdain for her Dems and Republicans are agreeing.

Newt is a corrupt racist who was tossed from Congress. Palin is a wolf killing dumb a.. racist. Why the media continues to cover her and what her stupid a.. thoughts are is beyond me.

Hey i thought Sarah palin was all about self wealth and greed how else does she explain Sarah's super pack and her vacation tour to push her book? I wonder how much she pays on her income taxes in a year, whatever it is i bet she off shores her portfolio. With all those royalties from her book and air time with Fox News how could she carry Newts message to the people of poverty? What a tool these Republicans are while they make thousands for speeches they pretend to show concern for the poor!

Why do we still care what this dope says (well, I don't)? And why does the media still enable her? This is like being in line at the supermarket and being forced to see headlines about the latest from Snookie or those Kardashian people - whoever they are. The fact that some Americans could be swayed by an endorsement from Sarah Palin is an argument for why maybe everyone should not have the right to vote!

... and Gingrich will become known as the "child labor" president

Gingrich failed to point out how the GOP's tax breaks for the wealthy, deregulation and subsequent destruction of the U.S. economy under GW Bush set the stage for Obama NEEDING to allow more benefits to the people hurt by the GOP's actions.

The comments being made by the GOP candidates regarding people experiencing hard times - AS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE ACTIONS AND POLICIES OF THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION - are going to HAUNT them BIG TIME when their nominee comes up against president Obama.

(The GOP is now pointing to the fact that their BLATONT OBSTRUCTIONISM AND PANDERING TO THE WEALTHY has made it difficult for Obama to make the kind of change he promised - that was intended to correct the problems created by GOP policies,...saying that more of the same would be the cure,.....WTF ?!!!!!!)

They side step obvious and known abuses by the wealthiest people,....and then equate not having with not working, not caring and not trying. It's all so simple in their eyes, and they and their pundits simply appeal to the prejudices of the "us vs them" war.

To me it seems that the GOP field is a mess. Their best won't get far once contrasted with Obama,....nor when forced to defend their unforgiving, winner takes all, social Darwinism.

Obama WILL win again in 2012.
