Gingrich goes to the dogs with Romney reference

GEORGETOWN, SC -- As many may know, Newt Gingrich is an animal lover. But Sunday night he appeared doubtful that one of his Republican rivals enjoys the furry friends as much.

“I am a big pet lover, yes,” the former House Speaker told reporters today in the Palmetto State. “I actually think it is fun to have animals. I think it is fun to like your pet enough to actually be near them.”

These comments came after Gingrich was asked to comment on Mitt Romney’s treatment of his dog a few years back – Romney reportedly put his family dog, Seamus, in a cage affixed to the top his car while traveling with his family on a vacation.

“Well, I just would rather not have been in a kennel all the way to Canada, personally,” Gingrich said at the Land’s End Restaurant after a town-hall event.

The Speaker notably did not discuss Romney by name during either of his events today and only did so when asked by reporters.

The Gingrich campaign released a web video just last week, "For the Dogs,” that dug up this controversial topic from the last campaign cycle and included it in a montage of “moderate Mitt’s greatest hits.”

Several weeks ago, Gingrich himself even launched a website dedicated to animals: petswithnewt.com. He has also on several occasions frequented zoos throughout the country.

While some did chuckle at the question posed to the Speaker this afternoon, Gingrich agreed that Romney’s treatment of his family pet adds to the narrative about the former Massachusetts governor.

“I think there are many characteristics that come out in the course of a presidential campaign from the use of words like ‘I like firing people’ which didn’t mean he liked firing people but he said “I liked firing people’ which sounds like I liked firing people even though it wasn’t…. to putting a dog on the top of a car for 9 hours,” Gingrich said. “I mean all these different things paint a picture, all of us have pictures and the Governor has to figure out whether or not that picture is electable. I wouldn’t want to debate Barack Obama with that in my background.”

Gingrich and Romney will participate in the next GOP debate Monday night in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina – the first time they have shared the stage together since Romney’s commanding win in the New Hampshire primary last week.

CLEARLY a lie -- Newt has proven that his *itches are not allowed in the car at all when his wife is around.

Put that in your background and debate Obama. LOL

Oh please...this is about as disingenuous as tubby every gets. He's getting on Romney's back for treatment of his pet while he's good with his treatment of his cancer suffering wife...give me a break.

Not to say anything good about Romney (or any of these brain eating zombie candidates), but for God's sake Newt should get out of his glass house before throwing stones.

It's kind of funny how Gingrich thinks he actually had a chance of winning the Republican nomination if not for some ads in Iowa by a PAC supporting Romney. All the ads did were to remind people why they ddn't want him in the first place and his support dropped way back down to the low level he deserves. He's a sharp debater but temperamentally unstable.

Romney is in with the elite business interests and Gingrich is in with the lobbyists. Neither one gives a damned about the working people of this country. If they both went to hell tomorrow the world would be a better place.

Let's see in the end if this egomaniac can become a Republican trooper or just one more deluded individual who sees the world revolving around himself...

"Fun and Games" are just about over...the outcome seems clear and it will soon be time to close ranks or just get ready for a continuation of the gridlock that we have been seeing for the past three years.

Presumably the "people" have spoken by putting the "obstructionists" in Congress, now the people will have to speak again to either remove a "lightning-rod" president or an "artery-clogging" Congress to get our country working again....its sooo depressing to be sitting in a train siding watching the "Express"....and even the slow freight trains pass by.

Figure it out, America......we cant enjoy the "luxury" of stagnation too long..

They've got to make the GOP Candidate run into a series, Only Two and a half men can top this as a comedy series. How about TAKING AMERICA BACK, with a subtitle of, to those good old days of yesteryear. Starring six, no five, no four, of your favorite used to be politicians. Watch the dirt uncovered on each of them as they heap shovel full upon shovel full on each other as they dig themselves deeper and deeper into the political graveyard of never be elected as dogcatcher. About the only thing you can say about this running is it not boring, stupid yes, but hilarious in the extreme.

Looks like Romney is teaching Newt how to run a political campaign. And he needs all the help he can get. Now Newt wants to make an issue over this pet thing. Newt has broken half the 10 commandmants and he's critizing someone for having a pet carrier on top of his car. Romney didn't steal money and get kicked out of congress, adultery isn't on Romney's record, lying, well all politicians lie, it wasn't Romney advising Fanny and Freddy badly and charging millions and we know where that advise led those companies to. But I am convinced, lets pick someone else besides these two jokers.

I don't understand how a guy married 3 times, a notorious philanderer, driven out of the congress because of ethics issues and involved in under-handed lobbying efforts since then can try to damage the reputation of a decent guy like Romney with a straight face.

Let's face the facts here... obviously everyone knows this putting your dog on top of your car is dumb and treating a living thing like it was just another object in tow and although it is repugnant and inhumane to say the least it is the same kind of stupid and uncaring thing many politicos would and could be guilty of..... each one of them would do whatever it takes to win and "be president", both sides of the political spectrum have rows and rows of the same type of people who would walk over anyone (breathing or not) to get what they desire...

The problem is and always will be the domination of politics in this country by a two party system where there is a successive and seemingly non-ending cycle of good guy, bad guy and role reversal every 4 to 8 years... it is that kind of system that lets these politicians talking about things like how a guy or girl treats a dog or a tree or a fly (SO WHAT!!!) instead of the real issues that will truly effect US - the governed, on the receiving end of their latest ambitions - They should be made to yap up until they want to talk about a real issue and what they really intend to actually do about it (otherwise they all are really the same and would put their own mother on top of a car if they thought they had to or that it would be easier for them to accomplish their day's goals - all of them bar none).

Lets wake up and try to give someone with a brain and an independent actual "thought" a chance... not just the latest standard bearer for either one of these tired parties we all are currently subjected to!!

For the life of me I don't understand what building a pipeline in Canada has to do with America. If the Canadians want a pipeline to sell us their oil they should build it. I hear them saying it wold create 20K jobs. 20K jobs for who, do you think Canada is going to let America workers find employment in Canada to the detriment of their unemployed. Speaking of oil, we don't receive any Iranian oil, number one. Secondly oil futures determine the price of oil to be delivered in THE FUTURE. When you see oil costing $90.00 per barrel that's not the price being paid today. Why are and why does the price of a gallon jump today, reflecting a POTENTIAL increase which may be lowered before that increase ever takes place. Price guaging is the only reason. The price the oil companies pay for a barrel of oil today is the price negotiated three to six months ago and you can bet they have mechanisms in place to get discounts on that price if the market demands it. What I would like to know is why the Federal Government and the State Governments allow the oil companies to manipulate the price of the end product, (gasoline) in particular to the detriment of the American people.

                  this all over the country.

                  Back during the great depression,
Herbert Hoover ordered the deportation of ALL illegal aliens in order to make
jobs available to American citizens that desperately needed work.

Harry Truman deported over two million
illegal aliens after WWII to create jobs for returning veterans.

In 1954 Dwight Eisenhower deported 13
million Mexicans. The program was called Operation Wetback. It was done so WWII
and Korean veterans would have a better chance at jobs. It took two years, but
                  they deported them!

Put yourself in their paws and answere your own question. A kennel, often used on trucks without an extended cab, is very safe if it is tied securely. Now think about getting wind blasted on the top of a car and other cars comming at you front and back. That would give anybody the @!$%#s.
