Romney's claims of saving Co's like Steel Dynamics, not true when you look at facts, invested 18.3 million walked away with 90 million+, but the state stepped in invested millions, as did one of the counties Decalb I think, had to raise taxs to pay, for investment. Left workers with no health benefits and reduced pensions? So how exactly did Bain save the Co? Sounds like the state ( the people of the state) saved the Co. Say you were an investor, and you got paid very well for that! Come on Romney, be honest, oh yeah my bad!

Let's see ... he LOVES to fire people, he busted out a steel mill by borrowing heavily against the company assets and then taking the money leaving the taxpayers on the hook for greatly reduced pension payments to the workers whose jobs he lost, he will not release his tax returns, and on and on and on. This guy is one big slime ball

Wow! More class warfare going on here. Even when the rich use their money to help the not so well off they are criticized for not doing enough. Without Bain Capital the Staples chain would not exist today. Without Bain Capital and other investment firms, Sports Authority would not be here today. Without venture capitalist Mike Markkula Apple Inc. would not exist today. Companies need investors to thrive, especially at the point of startup or financial instability. Bain Capital and other firms like it are simply companies dedicated to providing funding to upstart or struggling companies.

While it's true that jobs are lost in this process, it's necessary. If you have a payroll of 1 million dollars but only make $500,000 you cannot survive without reducing your payroll. This seems to be a concept that people don't understand. To save many jobs, you may have to sacrifice a few.

Just look at GM, a few years ago they were selling more cars than anyone else in the world, but while Toyota made money selling the same number of vehicles, GM lost money. Why? Because of inefficient cost structures. The only way they could become profitable was to reduce their cost structure. And the only way they could do that was to close brands, lay off workers, and reduce an already inflated payscale. This is what Bain Capital does when they buyout a struggling company. It's the nature of that business and is absolutely necessary.

All Romney did while at Bain Capital was decide what companies were worthy of Bain money. Could you make that decision easily? What would you have done differently had you been in Romney's shoes? And what would you say to the thousands of workers of Sports Authority, Staples, etc? I'm sure they're pretty thankful Romney decided to support Staples instead of another competing franchise. It's capitalism, and it works really well.

And as big of a GM fan I am, if the Obama administration wants to point their finger at Romney and his work at Bain Capital, they have to realize, there are 3 finger pointing back at them, because that's exactly what they did in the bailouts/acquisition of GM and Chrysler. They became an investor with capital for GM and Chrysler and they propped it up while it restructured (which involved closing brands, payscale reduction, and layoffs).

Ever notice the Bain/CEO/Vice President portion of the business salary expense never goes down? It never flattens. It only sky-rockets up to amounts of money that no one man could possibly justify earning, especially when hundreds or thousands of other people are losing their job

JS, your GM example is worth a response. In the GM situation, the US government provided the capital to allow GM to modernize, restructure its commitments and get back on sound footing.

If Bain were to act as the US Government did, there would be no argument about Bain's activities. The distinction is that Bain rapes the assets of the target company and if it survives, fine. If not, just as fine because in either case, Bain's interest is its own wealth which it increases significantly at the expense of the targeted company's stockholders, employees and creditors.

GM is now a thriving company once again; the benefactor United States retains income tax receipts because of GM thriving. The company, stockholders, creditors, suppliers and the US economy all benefit. Bain only cares about Bain.

Mitt Romney seems the perfectly wrong candidate for these times. The repulicans are trying to give us a third term of George W. Bush. Romney is a rich man's son, driven to out do his father, and and a man of dubious honor. Bush started two wars, one misgided, mishandled and wrong, and presided over the near total collapse of the US economy. Romney is saber-rattling Iran and has proven he doesn't care about about anyone elses economic well-being - more tax cuts for the rich and fancy Bain manuverings could finish off the the financial system in this country.
If he is such a true conservative why run for Govenor in Massachusetts, the most liberal state in the union? Because he thought he could tell them what they wanted to hear and be succesful. Why not run in Utah or the South or in Michigan, where he was born, places where being a conservative is more accepted?
Because Willard Mitt Romney is a calculating Rat looking out for only himself and his friends.

Bain exposes Romney as a fraud, a hypocrite, and a threat to the average American. he must be stopped. Maybe this is the revelation needed to convince voters to choose another candidate like Huntsman.

Not too many years ago here in the Pacific Northwest there was a major timber company called Crown-Zellerbach with over 10,000 employees. When Crown's stock value dipped below it's asset value it was taken over in a hostile takeover by a company like Bain. The new owners immediately fired every employee and sold all of the assets of Crown and made millions and the takeover company was never seen in this region again.

Capitalism at its worst, and if I were Mr. Romney I would not be proud of being involved in similar takeovers. Wealthy yes, but not proud.

The problem with newt is that he isn't honest, with his ex wife or any one else he think his is above all of us and if he does get the nominee then he will do what ever he wants, but don't get me wrong he is 1000 % better the what we have now. We need mitt he isn't a career politician and he is honest in his dealings.I wont vote for a man who cheats on his wife I don't care what the world tells me is acceptably of isn't acceptably. I do like a man that has proven to me he knows how to create jobs and can run a company and make tough choices. We don't need just another good speaker look what that got us 5 trillion and counting. We are smarter than that right?

I consider myself an Independent, but I've got to wonder.... If I'm a republican looking for a candidate to replace the president, who do you choose...? the choices are sad... We have a Serial Womanizer/Lobbyist, A Jobs Killing Tax Dogder, and an Insane man that took a dead infant from the hospital to take home and show it to his kids, and last but not least one that looks like he's right around the corner from death.... It don't look good for the GOP!
