EXETER, NH -- Under the championship wrestling banners lining the walls of a high school gym here in Exeter tonight, Mitt Romney and Chris Christie got into verbal wrestling matches of their own with three separate sets of Occupy protesters.
"This is our regular group here," Romney said drily when a small group of Occupiers began to chant "Mitt Kills Jobs" midway through his speech.
As the group was being escorted out, Romney said it was "wonderful" to live in a country where people can express their views, but that he wished they would do it with "a little bit more courtesy."
When the protesters interrupted Christie minutes later with a similar chant, he was less accommodating.
"Really?" Christie asked, when the chants of "Christie Kills Jobs" began. "You know something may go down tonight but it ain't gonna be jobs, sweetheart."
Christie was interrupted just has he began to rail against a Washington culture of division, which he said was guided by President Obama, and he used the disruption to further his argument.
"I doubt he is, but I hope the president’s watching," Christie said. "I have a message for you Mr President: This is the type of disoriented anger your cynicism and your division is causing in our country. Bring our country together stop dividing it Mr. President."
Christie's clear delight at dealing with the protesters energized a crowd that the local police estimated to be more than 800 strong. That turnout number, if accurate, would make tonight's rally one of Romney's largest of the campaign thus far. But even as he shook hands with supporters who spilled over to an overflow room, Romney was confronted by one last Occupy protester, who continued to needle about the causes of the recession, Romney even as staff attempted to guide the candidate away. Romney instead turned back to face the protester head-on.
"You know what? This president has caused a deepening recession and is responsible for 25 million Americans being out of work or stopped working or not being able to get jobs," Romney said, before walking away. "And let me tell you, this president's been a failure and that's one of the reasons I'm running is to help you get a job."

Such drama (add yawn here). Mittens and his lard-ass bodyguard. Ron Paul 2012.
But occupy will still be here as long as mr grover, the gop, & the rushbo continue to work for and only for the upper 1%. Even if the bushman i mean romney is elected president. Occupy is all about the unfairness of mr grover, the gop, & the rushbo. The poor get poorer.
Christie as a man that belittles people with opposing views. He uses his position to bully people and he insults the opposition. There is a thing called Napoleon complex akin to purchasing large vehicles to compensate for diminutive manhood. Bullying by over weight people is not different. I used to see it back in high school. Good job there scoolyard bully Christie! For folks to whine about him being called out for obesity, get real, clinically speaking, he is FAT!
Charles Barkley said it best on Jay Leno "If everything you propose they say NO to then how can you get anything done" He said "if Obama shot himself and it was only one clean shot he said the republcain would say why didn't shoot himeslf twice."
You could try proposing something that others might agree to, and you might avoid starting your so-called dialogue by starting with insults toward the opposition.
You'd only do that if your were trying to bring people together, which of course is not President Obama's mode of operation.
Yep, Letusreason, that is the fake azz Tea parties mode of operation, also.... even more so. The funny thing is, that most of them are saying "end the handouts, but don't lay a finger on my medicare! I deserve it!!!! I WORKED FOR IT!!!! I EARNED IT!!!! "
Gotta love Sir Charles! Of course, he annointed himself.
I love it when republicans try to act like Obama is making our country more polar. Are they ignoring what has happen in congress the last two years. Every bill presented by the republicans is so far to the right (union bashing, bashing fed employees, bashing the poor, cuts to domestic programs only, and protecting the rich "job creators" by any means necessary including successfully taking Americans and our economy hostage once and attempting to do it with the payroll tax cut hardly seems bipartisan to me.
As a just right of center Independent I am continuously appalled by the assinnine partisan stance that so many here take. First off, politics in this country has turned in WWF night. Regardless of how effective ANY president is, the President deserves respect. It's perfectly ok to propose what you would do differently. But personal attacks on the President or any candidate for any office for that matter are simply juvenile. Anyone who votes straight party line is a freakin' moron. Everyone deserves to be represented fairly in this country. Our founding fathers would be ashamed if they were alive to witness the BS currently going on in this country.
You are absolutely correct. Unfortunately, the party representatives generally represent the extreme right or the extreme left.
Folks in the moderate middle (who are in the majority in the U.S.) are generally not represented by the folks in our government.
Unfortunately, the only people currently represented by our government are the special interest groups (both sides). The American people have essentially been kicked to the curb.
Republicans need to get off the "job creator" BS defending the absolutely retarded special tax cuts that they dole out to the wealthiest Americans (btw, my house hold income is well north of middle class). At least 30 years of that failed science experiment is enough. Democrats need to understand that some painful adjustments need to be made to Medicare. And everyone keep their hands of Social Security. By law it can not add to the debt or any annual deficit. The trust fund for SS is massive and solvent until at least 2036. Plenty of time to tweak it...not privatize it. And who in their right mind could possibly justify a Defense budget that is 7 times more than China spends and more than the rest of the world combined. So pleaseeeeeee, don't pull out your flag when someone suggests getting defense spending in order.
Looks to me like the job numbers have improved after the republicans took over the House.
Please point to any legislation proposed and passed by Republicans that has improved the job numbers in this country since they gained a majority in the House.
thats hard to do when Reid won't even bri ng the bills up for a vote. He's a Dem by the way, in the DEm Majority Senate.
So the job growth was in spite of anything done by the Republicans?
House Republicans gave the country a little confidence that the BO offensive against the American people has been blunted.
Here's a wild concept for you. The economy is healing itself. Because right now our government is in a virtual gridlock when it comes to passing almost any legislation. And here's a news flash for you. The last time we had gridlock in Washington was during the Clinton Administration. Clinton's last year in office we had a deficit of $18B. Perhaps the ultimate answer is for Washington to stop dabbling in the economy.
Common Man..yet another lemming!
don't vote recklessly: THANK YOU! I thought the world had gone totally insane. It is nice to see someone who thinks for themselves.
I know that some people use message boards to blow off steam and act like a fool, but WOW, I really am beginning to wonder about what is important to my fellow citizens.
If you increase taxes on the rich, they will go offshore. sorry Dems we aint letting that happen. Reducing redundant regulations and costs for businesses is the answer.
Spoken by a true lemming. Perhaps you haven't noticed but the jobs have already gone off shore. And during a time when taxes are at the historical low in this country. So it would appear that lower taxes haven't prevented jobs leaving the country. Apple, the #1 corporation in America is currently sitting on $76B in cash. All of their products are made in China. What would you do to entice them to bring those jobs back home? If you say tax cuts...you better check out where they are right now with regards to taxes. Because 35% corporate taxes in this country is a myth.
While my household income is north of middle class, I paid more in taxes than Warren Buffett did (on a percentage basis) last year. I paid 100% more than GE (they paid zero taxes) and ExxonMobile (they got a $126M refund) who reported the largest quarterly profit in history. I'm all for a flat tax. But I don't make enough to get a voice with our politicians. The reason you can't get a flat tax passed in this country is because it would make the richest individuals and corporations (who have the ear of Congress) pay more.
The reason you can't get a flat tax in this country is that politicians would no longer able to buy their constituencies by directing favored tax treatment toward them.
Reckless, I like the cut of your jib. We need people like you and me to run for office. The problem is, we aren't out of our minds and would never subject ourselves or our families to such abuse. Also, we actually have specific things to say, not just bland platitudes. That would never work for a US politician.
We need to find an answer to this problem.
Nothing worse than to have to be privy to a big fat blabbermouth rage at everything but his obesity ...
Sick.
Christie is NOT LIKED by almost half the voters of his home state. He has no mandate. Obesity is not confined to the GOP, while blabbermouth rage IS!
As a student of history, I am compelled to say that many of the problems facing the United States currently are disturbingly similar to the conditions of the Roman Empire before it's collapse. BARBARIANS UNITE!!!
Really? Were they having a problem with Iran as well back then? I must have missed the news flash were Obama set Washington on fire.
Chris Gristy and Oh Sh-t MITT,what a pair of hot heads.Sounds like a terrorist threat coming from the Fat Man of N.J.and then Mr.Mittens brakes bad only because he has Mr 2 TONS with him, despicable behavior !
There goes fatso again running his mouth and embarassing his constituents. Governor, a bit of advise from one of your own: first, cease the nasty, classless retorts like when you threaten to take care of your critics, "Jersey-style". That is beneath the dignity of your office and an affront to your constituents, so please stop it. Second, the ones who have been dividing this country are the very ones who insist Obama has been doing it, starting with demogoues like yourself. Third, how about staying here and doing your job instead of again trying to foment division while campaigning with your friends (what were you doing hobnobing with the Koch brothers recently on a junket to Colorado?). Lastly, your physical appearance is beginning to worry many of us here in New Jersey, so what are you doing about it?
Oh, and one more thing: President Obama has been doing the best he can under difficult circumstances, with no help from your party, Governor. I think he is doing an excellent job and is worthy of a second term. Unlike you.
Mitt Romney cannnot beat any democrat much less President Obama. Another minus for Romney is thinking about old Porky Pig Christie as a vice president. Just what the country needs ,a vice president with one foot in the grave and the other on a Banana Peel. That choice would make Dan Quale's choice look like a Gienus of a pick. However I will bet Christie can spell potato or any other food product.
