Perry vows to 'stay in this fight'

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Citing his own "peace with God," Rick Perry says he's pressing forward with his battered presidential campaign because he will not "quit on the future of America."

"I've never quit a day in my life. I've never quit in the face of adversity," Perry told over 100 South Carolinians at the famed Beacon Drive-In in Spartanburg. "And I'm not just about to quit  on the future of America. I am going to stay in this race and stay in this fight because our children and our country are worth the fight."

Perry, who suffered a disappointing 5th place finish in the Iowa caucuses and appeared on the verge of dropping out last week, said that he was encouraged to stay in the race by endorser Capt. Dan Moran, a Marine who endured over 30 surgeries after surviving an IED attack in Iraq.

"He said, 'Sir, I didn't get these scars on my face to quit,'" Perry said of Moran. "That's our challenge. That we're not quitting on America. We're not quitting on this race."

The Texas governor said that his faith - which he emphasized frequently during his first stop of a long swing through the state - has guided him through the difficult days of the campaign.

"When you find that peace from God, you stop worrying about what the critics say," Perry said. "Matter of fact, you quit reading the headlines, good ones or bad ones, because they don't matter."

"I've got all the people that love me that I need. Her, (his wife) Jesus. and my family," he added during his pitch as an enemy of Washington. "I'm not going to Washington DC to make a friend."

Team Perry's last best hope lies in the Palmetto State, where they hope he can reconnect with Tea Party and evangelical voters skeptical of frontrunner Mitt Romney.

On Sunday, he painted South Carolina as a prime enemy of the Obama administration, which has recently clashed with the state government over voting and business regulations.

"There are some other states that are under assault," he said. "South Carolina, they're going to war with y'all."

Perry added that he would do away entirely with the National Labor Relations Board, a federal body particularly reviled by conservatives in the state due to its conflicts with Boeing manufacturers over labor laws.

At the famed campaign hotspot, Perry ordered a "chili cheese a'plenty" and sweet tea to go, but he renamed the heart-unhealthy concoction with a more personalized title.

"Having a Chili Cheese Delight Extra ...Governor!" he declared of his meal.

Oh yeah Perry is scary but not in the fashion you are referring to, we have nothing to fear he can't even compete with republicans much less an incumbent president.

KECK: Right you are. Us liberals are just shaking in our boots at the prospect of Obama having to run against Rick Perry. LOL Please, tell me you were not serious. To say that Perry is unfit for the office of the presidency is an all time understatement. This guy is clueless when it comes to foreign policy and as for his domestic policies, they will be guided by two things, what "Jesus" tells him to do and secondly, what his corporate masters and uber rich funders want him to do. Dems could never get so luck as to have a Bozo like him win the nomination.

INTREPID 1,

He fulfills the constitutional requirements of running for office. Everything beyond that is just convincing people to like him. He's more conservative than Romney. He would certainly be able to motivate the conservative base in a general election a heck of a lot more than Romney. The problem is those darn independents. They'd rather have a level-headed guy this election.

Keck,

A little slow over at FoxNation and The Blaze tonight?

Eventually, Perry will hold a news conference to announce he's holding a news conference and say that God told him not to run, and has bigger plans for him...seems he has more executions to oversee as Governor of Texas.

Still believe Perry wanted to drop, but Slick Willard asked him to stay, so he is.

You might have noticed, that despite earlier debate exchanges between them, which candidate was walking on eggshells around Slick Willard in the recent back to back debates. Yep. Think about that one. Perry wasn't just pulling his punches on the front runner - he wasn't even throwing any.

Perry knows his role. He's in South Carolina to provide one more point at which the conservative vote can split, allowing Romney to avoid a really bad result. And by doing that, he's more than likely been promised future "consideration" for opportunities the Slick one may have to offer.

Perry's attitude is what makes him dangerous--he really believes that a Texas pol can make all the difference for America , but America is no longer the America of the early 20th century..We are now a restless and diverse population that is demanding a larger peice of the economic pie , more tolerance of marginal social entities, and world-wide justice and democracy. Perry, like GW Bush, is a chesspiece for the well-heeled dinausars of Southern politics that never give up on the Confederate past and "values"of the "good-ol boy" system. He's great at a BBQ, but please, let's keep him out of the Oval Office.

Forrest - see the references to "southern politics" (actually is a reference to the "dixie-crats"- who were white democrats, not republicans BTW) and "confederate past" (whites who fought for slavery).

The biggest slavery of the day is getting government subsidies, and political mind control.

              #5.4 - Sun Jan 8, 2012 9:52 PM EST

Herman Cain tell you that DB, if getting government subsidies and political mind control is now slavery then there is a lot of white slavery going on in the south. Who would have thought the oil companies were slaves they get some hefty subsidies. I'll give you a clue DB working in Texas for a $10.80 median wage is slavery pal.

America is approaching a decisive moment in its history. We are still a young nation and by historical standards barely out out diapers and learning to walk in a world fraught with dangers. We have done well , struggled through trials of growth and dissent within and united in purpose when threatened from without. We have triumphed in the past because we as a nation still believe in the concept of a loving God. We still believe in the principles of democracy and freedom for all peoples and in 2012 we will vote for the continuance of those virtues . Obama is our POTUS and he best represents those virtues and values despite his lack of experience, so this Independent will vote for him 2012. He has yet to reach the zenith of his potential as a great President.

He envisions a SC miracle, but he needs to win more states than SC. He got clobbered in Iowa. He's going to get clobbered in NH. Voters will write him off as gone and forgotten unless he gets a stronger than expected showing in NH. And strong at this point would be 7% or more for him.

Republicans need to get over it: Romney is going to be the nominee. He will smoke everyone in NH, squeak out a win in SC, and then win solidly in FL. So by February, it will be clear Romney has the nomination wrapped up.

Leroy, the Steelers were very unhealthy for the game. Both offensive and defensive lines had people playing very hurt because the others were hurt worse.

The Bronco's will be out next round an even if Pittsburgh had won, Baltimore would have sent them packing too and the outcome would have been a blow-out.

He needs to go back and breed some more kids.... his previous job experience colors him as a corrupt sell out that lobbyed just like the rest of them, he made money off his rich clients who he got fat contracts off Medicare from and others but wants everyone to consider him "humble", yeah, right. Moron. How about that spawn of Satan, Gingrich? Fired from Congress and fined for his unethical and illegal moves? And he has the nerve to call the others "sell outs", that's all he knows how to do, that and run around with women a la Cain (what a moron that one too and thinks people want his endorsement? Seriously?), then there's rich 'ol Romney the Mormom which everyone hates yet has so much money they have to put up with him, his record is less than stellar too....

Paul and Huntsman might be good and not cause too much damage. They have some good ideas and Huntsman is an educated and sophisticate man, but the "hooligans" in the US can't stand someone like that so they'll never win, too logical and they like crazy. So if you're betting on this and figure the ONLY thing that Americans respect is the all mighty DOLLAR, there's only one that will make it: Romney. Sorry, but this is the truth. He still won't win against Obama but he will be in for the GOP. Hope you're proud of your choices....

                                    LOL BGarc...

You and I both know the Obama/Donkey Mouth Team are shaking in their boots over having to defend the last 3 1/2 years against Romney.

This won't even be close in Nov.

P.S. Lets not forget July-ish when the SCOTUS puts another nail in the teleprompter-in-chief's major "accomplishment" and affirms what we already knew.....Obamacare is unconstitutional.

MICHAEL: It will be almost as funny as having to watch Willard defend his "RomneyCare" from which Obama DIRECTLY COPIED IT. Not to mention that far Left Commine organizations like the Heritage Foundation as well as your boy Newt were the ones who actually developed it in the first place.

Beyond that, it will be must see TV to watch Romney defend his changed stances ON EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN. You name it, he's changed his mind. Abortion rights, gay rights, Liberal to Conservative, etc. This is a guy who RAN TO THE LEFT OF TEDDY KENNEDY!!! LMFAO You've got to be kidding me.

Do you know how to figure out what Romney's stance is on an issue? Easy, just check to see which way the wind is blowing. That's the extent of his moral compass, whatever is expedient at that time. You can bet your lase dime that had the GOP not degenerated into the Far Right, Evangelical nutcase organization it is, Romney would would running on a moderate to Liberal platform. Which is a major reason why so many in the GOP can't stand the guy. He has all the realisim of a department store mannequin. He was before it, before he was against it, before he was for it again.

Perry for President? Obama's wish come true. Are Texans really that dumb? I guess succession would actualy be a blessing for America. The Border would be a tough one though.

Thank you sir, may I have another. Just like a losing boxer ol' Ricky is stupid enough to keep coming back for beating after beating thinking he might get in one punch that will end the fight. Finally they drag his sorry carcas out of the ring either to the emergency room or the morgue. Which will it be Rick?

Maybe he's afraid to go back to Texas because they finally woke up and realized the stupid fool they voted for.

Rick Perry is not qualified to be president let alone governor of Texas. Just because he talks big and thinks his references to his religion make him electable, he's nothing more than another emperor with no clothes. The one thing he's mastered is living the high life at the expense of the citizens of Texas. Everything else is over his head.

He is not "staying in this fight" he is staying in a slaughter. You have to have a chance of winning for it to be considered a fight.

I am a life long Republican and have owned three businesses for over 30 years. After I turned the tv off after listening to the debate last night I was one Pi###ed off individual.

Most of the debate was on social issues (abortion and gays), military, and excessive regulations.

I could give a hoot about these issues, what I want to hear is what will they do about the economy. Cutting regulations is a bunch of BS, there is not one regulations enacted in the last three years that would materially effect my businesses in fact some actually probably helped me in that they stopped my competitors from cutting corners to get an unfair/illegal advantage. As for Obama care I will have to waith and see, but at this point it appears that my actual cost will go down from what I pay for my employees health insurance today.

The bootom line is if the working man does not have some disposable income the economy will continue to stagnate.

Unless they come up with some sort of plan to turn the economy around that is better in my mind as to what Obama has been trying to do I will vote Democratic for the first time in my life.

Ed - The economy sucks... I think you agree to that. Obama hasn't fixed it, it has gotten much worse. Most of the candidate have some decent ideas on how to fix the economy. If you didn't get that from the debates then start to look at what they are say elsewhere. Obama has had his chance, and it hasn't worked IMHO.

Ya gotta love it. The very ones who cry for government to get out of our lives are the same ones who want 'gubmint to "fix" the economy for them. What are your suggestions on just how "gubmint" can go about doing that? Please don't counter with "reduce spending" for without government spending, the total economy would have cratered some four years ago. Pulling a half-trillion dollars out of circulation is not a cure. It is a prescription for disaster. That established, just what should the president (i.e., government) do? As I recall, when the economy began to corrode under Bush, the reasoning is that "the president is not responsible for the economy." Apparently that meant only Republican presidents.

                                        Mitigate,

I've listened closely as have many others and to date none of them have offered anything with substance. They've made it very clear what they are against but no concrete suggestions as to how to fix anything.

I do think if they knew they would, but they really don't.
