Can anyone stop Romney?... We’ll find out with two debates -- including the NBC/Facebook one -- taking place in the next 24 hours… Breaking down the new NBC/Marist poll… Electability and ideology helping Romney in NH… Paul’s low ceiling and Santorum’s higher one... How Paul is hurting Huntsman… Last night’s campaign developments… And Gingrich hires two former Bachmann staffers in SC.
*** Can anyone stop Romney? With a new round of polls, including our NBC/Marist survey, showing Mitt Romney with a substantial lead in New Hampshire -- and another poll showing him up big in South Carolina -- the question becomes: Can anyone stop Romney? We’ll get an early answer to that question from the two GOP presidential debates we’ll see in the next 24 hours. At 9:00 pm ET tonight, the six remaining Republican candidates square off at an ABC/WMUR debate in Manchester. And then, at 9:00 am ET on Sunday, they’ll participate in the NBC/Meet the Press/Facebook debate moderated by NBC’s David Gregory in Concord. In case anyone has forgotten, the debates -- these next two will be Nos. 14 and 15 of the cycle, respectively -- have mattered. A lot. Indeed, the new NBC/Marist poll shows a combined 45% of likely New Hampshire voters believe the debates have helped decide their vote a “great deal” or a “good amount.” That’s compared with 10% who say the same about the results from the Iowa caucuses, and 20% who say the same about seeing the candidates in person.
*** Electability and ideology helping Romney in NH: The horserace numbers from our new NBC/Marist poll among likely New Hampshire Republican primary voters are Romney 42% (up three points from our last NH poll), Ron Paul 22% (up six), Rick Santorum 13% (up 11), Jon Huntsman (unchanged) and Newt Gingrich (down 15) at 9%, and Perry at 1% (down 1). The survey also shows that electability and the state’s ideological makeup are helping Romney in the Granite State. For instance, 65% of these voters think the former Massachusetts governor has the best chance of beating President Obama in November, and a strong majority prefers an electable nominee to a true conservative. What’s more, Romney performs better among the very conservative voters (beating Santorum among them, 30%-27%), Tea Party supporters (beating Paul 35%-25%), and evangelicals (leading Santorum, 31%-30%) than he did in Iowa. And helping him even more is the fact that there are fewer of these conservative/Tea Party/evangelical voters in New Hampshire than there were in Iowa. “New Hampshire is a very different ballgame than Iowa,” said Marist pollster Lee Miringoff.
*** Paul’s low ceiling and Santorum’s higher one: Can anyone catch Romney in New Hampshire? Well, while Paul sits in second place in our poll, he has a fairly low ceiling: 43% of likely voters find him unacceptable. That’s compared with 25% who say the same about Santorum and 16% who say that about Romney. (The most unacceptable in the poll? Perry’s at 54% and Gingrich is at 44%.) Those numbers suggest that Santorum can increase his poll position in New Hampshire. But can he overtake Paul with just three days to go until the primary?
*** How Paul is hurting Huntsman: That said, the NBC/Marist poll shows that Paul has become a thorn in Huntsman’s side, and it explains why Huntsman’s campaign has gone after the Texas congressman in recent days. Among the 38% of likely New Hampshire primary voters who identify themselves as independents -- the same folks Huntsman is trying to court -- Romney gets 35%, Paul 28%, and Huntsman 13%. And among self-described moderates and liberals, it’s Romney 46%, Paul 22%, and Huntsman 15%. In addition, the poll shows that Santorum has consolidated the “very conservative” vote, as well as evangelical Christians.
*** Last night’s developments: Here are some of the campaign stories from last night: Romney, in New Hampshire, blasted Obama over the economy and said the president doesn’t deserve credit for the improving job/unemployment numbers. “He doesn't deserve it because everything that's been done has hurt this recovery, everything done by this president." (Numbers from the Congressional Budget Office and other independent economics would disagree.)… Yesterday, Newt Gingrich slammed Mitt Romney’s gubernatorial resume (including his health-care law) during a tele-town hall, an indication of how the former House speaker may try to go after the Republican front-runner in the coming days… And Gingrich, stumping in New Hampshire, was forced to answer many questions that have been looming over his campaign (like the $1.6 million he made for Freddie Mac).
*** Gingrich hires two former Bachmann staffers in SC: NBC’s Ali Weinberg reports that the Gingrich campaign has hired two of Michele Bachmann’s South Carolina staffers. Taylor Mason, who was Bachmann’s Lowcountry field coordinator, and Gavin Smith, who was the assistant to Bachmann state chairman Sheri Few, will both serve as Lowcountry and Midlands field directors respectively. “Michele Bachmann had some very good grassroots support here in South Carolina and they built a lot of great relationships with voters here, whether they be traditional republicans or Tea Partiers,” said Gingrich South Carolina director Adam Waldeck. “With Bachmann’s campaign ending, it made sense for them to come to another conservative’s campaign and so we’re happy to have them helping out and looking forward to working with them to win on the 21st.” These additions, Weinberg says, bring Gingrich’s staff to a total of 14.
*** On the trail: It’s a busy day before tonight’s debate: Romney already held a rally in Derry (which NBC’s Garrett Haake says got interrupted by Occupy protesters)… Huntsman stumps in Littleton, North Haverhill, Plymouth, and Manchester… Paul hits Concord and Windham… Santorum holds events in Manchester, Amherst, and Hollis… And Gingrich stumps in Wolfeboro.
Countdown to New Hampshire primary: 3 days
Countdown to South Carolina primary: 14 days
Countdown to Florida primary: 24 days
Countdown to Nevada caucuses: 28 days
Countdown to Super Tuesday: 59 days
Countdown to Election Day: 304 days

*** Can anyone stop Romney?
President Obama!
It is becoming clearer with each passing day that the Grand Poobah's of the GNOP have held their collective noses & given the 'nod' to Willard!
However, it doesn't mean they want him to win!
The thought of having to 'tolerate' Mittens for (8) years is more than they can stomach!
I believe their main focus is 2016, when the likes of Chris Christie, Marco Rubio, etc can shine!
Vote for Mitt & this is what you will 'git';
Here’s how the numbers break down from the Tax Policy Center’s table:
Once again, balancing the budget off the backs of the poor & middle class!
This quote was from another page... but wanted to show the state of affairs in the GNOP Party... .
Santorum/Gingrich: DAMN 4-kin RACIST bastards~!!!!! This is for playing the race card to get the minuscule dumb down right wing extremist votes...
The GOP, ya gotta either laugh at them or cry. They do love their "privileged" class!
Even though, a larger proportion of whites are receiving food stamps!
Only 9% of Iowa's food stamp recipients are Blah!
Damn those Blah People!
Question. Now everything is the fault of the "Blah". When they go south and west, will everything be the fault of the Latinos?
ROMNEY'S "Business experience" consisted of buying companies, laying off workers, stripping pension funds, and taking the companies public again - 80% of which shortly went bankrupt.Check it out on you tube
THE STORY OF TWO MEN TRAPPED IN ONE BODY
NH: The state that wants to throw out the Constitution for the Magna Carta! I'm sure what they believe up there is representative of the rest of the country.
If they wanted old English law, they could have just abstained from the Revolution, no?
I think the ozone layer over NH has broken down, and their brains are being fried by too much solar radiation.
Title should have been "Can Any Republican Stop Romney" ---- This is a Republican event
MITT ROMNEY STOPS MITT ROMNEY
Of course what Feisty fails to tell you in her typical liberal spin mode is that "blah", or for those who are literate blacks, only make up 2.9% of the Iowa state population according to the 2010 census. That means that as a function of population, blacks are more than tree times as likely to be on food stamps than whites. Of course I know I should not bother liberals like Feisty with real facts, it only tend to confuse them and make their heads explode. I am not saying that I blame blacks for this fact or whatever else Feisty thinks some phantom poster is blaming them for - since no poster even made mention of blacks being a problem above.
Now back to the topic of the article. I firmly believe that Romney can beat Obama in November. Once reality hits and the out of whack seasonally adjusted unemployment numbers go away, we will see that the job market has not improved anywhere near as much as the spin-masters are trying to make people believe. The seasonal adjustments done b the BLS are notoriously inaccurate and that is why most respectable economists do not out a lot of stock in the December numbers. Between those losing benefits and the temporary employees that were hired or the holiday season, the unemployment number has been artificially skewed lower. Once the temporary employees are back on the rolls the reported number will go back up. Also, if you look at real unemployment and underemployment, you will see that the economy is not improving much at all. The economy needs to generate between 150,000 and 200,000 jobs a month just to accommodate the natural growth in the workforce that comes with our population growth. Once the real state of the economy comes to light, Obama's poll numbers will start dropping again. I certainly see Romney as moderate enough to lure the huge number of independents and moderate democrats who are completely disillusioned with Obama. I can not say the same about any of the other Republicans in the race, so I seriously hope that Romney gets the nomination. This country can not take four more years of Obama and his misguided policies.
JS,
The number of jobs needed to keep up with people entering the job market is between 125,000 and 150,000.
Now if we use the lower number (125k) in 8 years Bush should have created 12 million jobs not the net 3 million he created. So President Obama started out 9 million jobs in the hole.
AA’s nationwide receive 20% of Food Stamps.
With all that said..........why do you like Marxists?
It's like I've always said the Republicans will always blame someone else for their problems, that is why America is going down the Sh_tter, they stand on top of the hill pounding their chest thinking their BAD all the while lossing ground, America used to be really the King of the hill, but not anymore thanks to the GOP ...
Freedom1st, they throw awesome parties.
Romney’s biggest problem at the moment; his refusal to release his tax returns.
He doesn’t want people to know how wealthy he is, or how little of his total income he pays taxes on.

Can anybody really trust a dude like this who refuses to release his tax returns?? I'd like to know who keeps giving him his millions and millions of dollars??
To me it doesn't matter who gets elected, Democrapts are gutless weasels who run from every issue while the Repuks keep pushing tax cuts for their corporate masters, So what fricking choice is there people??
America's screwed until WE THE PEOPLE, GET RID OF THE SCUMBAG, HIGH PAID CAREER POLITICIANS,
Term Limits with no Pay, then we will see who really would want to serve America in Politics.....
Half of congress is the 1% so they all can take a long jump off a cliff!
Here's a good article I found on line. The only quibble I have with it is that it takes the Tea Party, which started with a contrived rant by Wall Street trader Rick Santelli on CNBC, more seriously as a grass roots movement than it deserves:
Iowa: The Meaningless Sideshow Begins
POSTED: January 3, 10:59 AM ET
By Matt Taibbi
….It takes an awful lot to rob the presidential race of this elemental appeal. But this year’s race has lost that buzz. In fact, this 2012 race may be the most meaningless national election campaign we’ve ever had. If the presidential race normally captivates the public as a dramatic and angry ideological battle pitting one impassioned half of society against the other, this year’s race feels like something else entirely.
In the wake of the Tea Party, the Occupy movement, and a dozen or more episodes of real rebellion on the streets, in the legislatures of cities and towns, and in state and federal courthouses, this presidential race now feels like a banal bureaucratic sideshow to the real event – the real event being a looming confrontation between huge masses of disaffected citizens on both sides of the aisle, and a corrupt and increasingly ideologically bankrupt political establishment, represented in large part by the two parties dominating this race.
Let’s put it this way. What feels more like a real news story – Newt Gingrich calling Mitt Romney a liar for the ten millionth time, or this sizzling item that just hit the wires by way of the Montana Supreme Court:
HELENA — The Montana Supreme Court restored the state's century-old ban on direct spending by corporations on political candidates or committees in a ruling Friday that interest groups say bucks a high-profile U.S. Supreme Court decision granting political speech rights to corporations…
A group seeking to undo the Citizens United decision lauded the Montana high court, with its co-founder saying it was a "huge victory for democracy."
"With this ruling, the Montana Supreme Court now sets up the first test case for the U.S. Supreme Court to revisit its Citizens United decision, a decision which poses a direct and serious threat to our democracy," John Bonifaz, of Free Speech For People, said in a statement.
Now that is real politics -- real protest, real change. Exactly the opposite of the limp and sterile charade in Iowa. This caucus, let’s face it, marks the beginning of a long, rigidly-controlled, carefully choreographed process that is really designed to do two things: weed out dangerous minority opinions, and award power to the candidate who least offends the public while he goes about his primary job of energetically representing establishment interests….

Randy - couldn't get "youtube watch?v=GDR-Lw7UuUw" to work?
Everett... "Term Limits with no Pay, then we will see who really would want to serve America in Politics....." - Agreed. Now, if only the OWS folks, with bases in nearly every US state now, would get that petition going to put Term Limits on Congress to a national vote. It would pass. The Occupy people should wear protective gear tho' when gathering the signatures, or an "accident" may befall them.
I said it before and it's worth repeating again.
"You will be able to tell who is a conservative voter at the polls this fall. They are the ones wearing noseclips or have the odor of Vicks under their noses."
Holy cow! Romney appears to have the libs on here quaking in their boots. If they were so sure Obama is going to win, they wouldn't be posting these kinds of comments. If they are so sure Obama will beat Romney, they would welcome Romney.
how can u you be so stupid... obama romney= same.. the rest are distractions from reallity..ron paul is a patriot... trying to save the america that used to be... now it so polluted with morons... obvious by the fact romney is even gettin 1% wtf is wrong with your brains.. do you all have the inabilty to see the facts wake the Fook up u dummies

Two people can stop Romney -- Willard Mitt Romney and Barrack Hussein Obama. The TEA Party conservatives have not laid a glove on Romney yet - how could they possibly stand up to Obama? Of course Romney will be nominated. If not Mitt, then who?
Romney may defeat himself during the 'reality show' primaries by attempting to defend his record or by revealing the 'real' Mitt Romney. If that happens, the Republicans have no viable candidate. Are they competing to be the 'biggest loser'?
skeeter,
Does the signing statement count for anything knowing full well that our military and Defense Department would be defunded in a few hours if he didn’t sign it?
Why did Congress (House & Senate) pass it?

The Story of TWO MEN trapped in ONE BODY, scares the hello out of me!
Gotta enjoy the media's love affair with Romney. He's well spoken and "good looking" thus a perfect candidate for TV. What's even more amusing is that just as soon as they puff him up to be the republican nominee they will turn on him like sharks when he goes up against Obama.
L4ugh ... You should post the top campaign contributors for Obama as well. You'll find that he's well represented by those from the 1%. f only there were a legit 3rd party that was for the people and not bought out by large $$.
Nerm_L,
I wasn't aware that there's two Romney's running? Are they related?
The question is can anyone stop the Big O? The lying wannabe dictator from Hawaii who subverts our Constitution and thinks our representative govt is a bother to his highness.
The answer must be Romney or anyone else.
Or we will be stuck wishing the Big O winds up like Napoleon. Stuck on an island all alone waiting to die from an STD.
Even though, a larger proportion of whites are receiving food stamps!
And most of them are people that call themselves "conservative" Republicans - Generally using the food stamps to buy Prime Choice meat cuts, and buying cigarrettes and beer with the money that the pick here and there doing errands.
I see it very often -don't tell me it's not true-
Did I strike a chord with the FR moderators?
It took less than ten minutes to collapse my factual post.
Good for you.
@ Doug:
Do you really expect anybody to take that serious? Post something that people would actually read and discuss.
Wasn't it a New Hampshire state rep who sometime last year came out in favor of eugenics? And these people are indicative of the rest of the nation HOW?

It is the truth and it happened. Perhaps you should take a little time and look into it.
It's not that difficult.
Your attitude is the problem.

Pres. Obama has more now with 48% from small contributions, Mitt has less with 10% small contributions. Mitt also amassed $100,000,000 for his 2008 run, it is all their in my opinion.

Your point is?
Without a doubt, what would be best for our nation is for an individual that isn't tied to corporate dollars and keeping tabs on them so they can be rewarded later. Thus has been politics for so many years. Unfortunately, it takes money to get elected and unless someone was able to find a way to the people of this nation, perhaps through the Internet, It will be either the Republican or Democratic candidate. It amazes me that in this campaign season billions of dollars will be spent on getting these people elected when they all speak of being for the people. What a crock of crap!
I myself believe that Obama has done about all he really can despite having a Congress that is blocking his every move in an effort to make him look bad or that he can't resolve the problems we are facing. If one has watched the past couple days coverage, they will clearly see that Romney is out for the 3% and no one else matters. If he gets elected, it will nearly crush the bulk of this nation in favor of a few.
All these corporations that are contributing to these campaigns are guilty of gutting our nation in the name of making more money for themselves and their executives. Yes, it would be terrific if there was someone there who would be for the people. Unfortunately, that's probably not going to be the case unless a nationwide consensus can be made for a great majority of America to do the good old fashioned write in vote, which is still allowed. If people want things to change in Washington, they have got to be prepared to step outside the box, an I can think of no better way. Then perhaps we can finally have an administration that is composed of who is best for the job and look beyond the partisan politics that has been destroying our nation.

Nah, I believe you're thinking of Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood. She was a proponent of eugenics, sterilization and segregation, especially of blacks. She was from New York.
You Libbies should know that with your romanticizing of Planned Parenthood and abortions.
"Can anyone beat Romney?" Yes, Romney!
Romney is a lackluster wanna be, just like John McCain. He has not personality and he is in bed with the rich and big business.
And whoever flattened "Feisty", shame on you! Last night on the REAL news, they said their more whites on welfare than blacks. It is a f-a-c-t!
Here is what I see about the push for anyone but President Obama. There are a lot of elitist people in this country, who believe because they are wealthy or born white, they are some how better than blacks. How on earth can one explain the obvious truth, President Obama is better qualified and far more able to deal with the problems in society today?
These anarchists want to ruin anyone who does not fit into their idea of what a president should emanate.

You know, I used to embrace, some of the ideas, of Republicans but not the Party of No Republicans of today. Not the Tea Party Republicans, who currently promote hatred, violence and their elitism over those who, just want to do, what fair, legal and right, for all Americans.
Romney will ruin his own campaign and I hope, to see it all of those, who have tried, to overthrow our country and erode our Constitution, behind bars.
Karl Rove, Bush, David and Charles Koch, Rupert Murdock, Gover Norquist and all the other lazy, greedy, self-serving aristocracy and their sycophants, who worship the "all-mighty dollar, can rot in purgatory! And here is the topper, it will be their "God" who will judge them. Republicans perpetuate that idea, that God belongs only to them.

I realize that hardly anyone here would actually read posted references.
Tell me, what is more important to you? Do you actually think that the planes will stop flying, the tanks will stop rolling, the drones will fall from the sky, Halliburton will stop making money?
Why does the American public accept the political atmosphere and wonkings, deceit and betrayal that BOTH SIDES of the aisle have used to rape the citizens of this country?
Why do you feel that it is OK to ignore your countries founding words of FREEDOM, because the current POTUS wanted it installed inthe law, then said he didn't really want it as he signed it?
Does that answer your questions?
It is a shame that most people here are so isolated in their views of "my party" to realize that you are being, and HAVE BEEN given lobotomies over your life time of "entitlements".

Hypocrite!
LMarc is more right as those who contribite must put their employer on the Federal form, so Freebird your list is irrelavant as it suggests that the Co. and Univ. themselves gave those contributions.
Also it is against the code of honor you signed Freebird to plagerise, that is giving no credit to whom you copied material, as you did in your first comment. Newsvine made you sign a agreement to use their site and you unfortunatly did not follow the rules you signed.
Read again the link you gave, it states, "This table lists the top donors to this candidate in the 2008 election cycle. The organizations themselves did not donate, rather the money came from the organizations' PACs, their individual members or employees or owners, and those individuals' immediate families. Organization totals include subsidiaries and affiliates.
Because of contribution limits, organizations that bundle together many individual contributions are often among the top donors to presidential candidates. These contributions can come from the organization's members or employees (and their families). The organization may support one candidate, or hedge its bets by supporting multiple candidates. Groups with national networks of donors - like EMILY's List and Club for Growth - make for particularly big bundlers."
Ball in your court.
Romney as my link stated, has about 10% of his contributors considered small donators. I guess he is for everyone, who has a lot of money.

[Can anyone stop Romney?]
No need for anyone to do anything...Romney is his own worst enemy.
All anyone needs to do is let him keep talking...he'll choke on his own hoof sooner or later.
Every time I hear him speak I get an over-powering desire to yell out, "Hey Mitt, show me the CarFax!"
Yay for a great comment!
Chucky,
I agree 100%!!!!!!
Yes, someone can stop Romney,
President Obama, thats who!
Don't worry with you and your fellow liberals at the polls the US will soon be the USS that you have been craving.
It's sure not going to be Santorum who stops Romney.
Santorum called for immediate cuts to Social Security benefits Friday.
Santorum said, "We can't wait 10 years," even though "everybody wants to,"
Good luck with that theology. Taking money from seniors to pay for what?
How about taking money from those that can afford to have the money taken.
Seniors can't afford to have a republican in the White House.
If another republican
buysgets elected into the White house the country and the world is in serious trouble. We should definetly stay the course with President Obama who unless your blind is truly dedicated to the country and is restoring the honor and integrity back to our nation.Gee, it seems these political forums are now dominated by the fringe element... provincial, angry, and bigoted types. Why use "liberal" or "rightwing" like curse words?
Many of these posts are crude, pointless and downright stupid. Those who wrote the Constitution did it to foster free and informed debate. If they could read these postings, they would think this is the forum of the clueless...
Q: Can anyone stop Romney?
A: Yes, the ultra conservative, willfully ignorant, evangelical Christians who are terrified of his religion.
I agree. Mr. Romney is his own enemy. Plus, he is out of touch with the average person, and he has the charisma of a rutabaga. Can you imagine a White House staff stacked with proselytizing religious zealots? I am a Republican, who believes that ALL of the present gaggle of Republican presidential wannabes are very marginal choices. It is getting very embarrassing to realize that the GOP cannot find a more meaningful candidate.
Trump has told Romney several times now that he has to change his image in a way to make people want to vote for him instead of have no other choice but to vote for him. Trump won't say, but I'd bet that if Romney gets the nod, that may cause him to enter as an independent.

DS1982 no kidding - Former Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton and Vice President Aaron Burr settled their diffence in a Duel. Hamilton died of his wound the next day.
As long as you were a White Anglo Saxon Protestant with a few dollars or a couple of hundred acres. Those who wrote the Constitution also allowed slavery and disallowed women the right to vote.
These posts are like fried froth--no substance! All I hear is Romney looks like a car salesman, Romney is plastic, Romney is (gasp!) a MORMON. Romney is also a self-made multi-millionaire a man who, because of his business record for turning around failing businesses was asked to do that for the 2002 Winter Olympics which he did for no pay! Then he becomes the governor of Massachusetts facing a 2 billion dollar defecit and by the end of four years has them with a 600 million dollar surplus. So call him what you want and mock his appearance, his beliefs, his hair--but seriously? There hasn't been a President of the United States with as much economic acumen as Mitt Romney--ever. Having proved himself in the business world, the world stage and in government don't you all feel you could give a little more honest appraisal of the man?
By the time he makes it to the general election, he'll be a beaten man. If he thinks the primaries have been rough on him, wait until the other side starts attacking. He won't know his right from his left.
Since Feisty's comment got collapsed, I'm posting my comment to Everett and Cassandra here:
Everett and Casandra, where have you been for the last 15 months while I've been promoting the Popular Amendment Movement's attempt to do just that. Go to www.faircampaignreform.us, download the two constitutional amendments, sign and circulate them among your family, friends, and neighbors, then help start a local, county, and statewide movement to get your Secretary of State to call for the Constitutional Convention to get these two amendments passed. That is the only way we will ever see term limits as a constitutional amendment because we all know that Congress will never start the procedure. Be sure to read the link to the Constitution website to see how Popular Amendments would work.

This is the kind of comment I was referring to. Aiming to avoid a culture of mindless insult, the framers of the Constitution wanted a free and an uninhibited exchange of ideas. Debating policy is one thing...loony tune comments devoid of civility are another.
Why aren't there tons of ads pointing out how insane and regressive Rick Santorum's statements are? If people had any idea what he is actually advocating, no one would be voting for him. Banning contraceptives and annulling all gay marriages?!?
Unfortunately, Romney will be our next POTUS. I find him nearly as unacceptable as O'bama.
I find 43% of likely voters unacceptable...Resulting in more of the same. Congratulations America!
Ever since taking classes in Political Science, I have been apathetic, or even disliking, of the American political system.
From what I learned, corporations, such as "Big Pharma", "Big Sugar", "Big Tobacco", etc., basically run the show along with lobbyists, organizations like the NRA and Sierra Club, and of course, the politicans themselves.
Once, every politician was "part-time" and could be pretty much an Average Joe, i.e. maintain a normal life and job alongside politics. Now, if you're not a "career politician", it's nearly impossible to get elected. "Career politicians" only have their own ambitions of power and perceived good-doing; politics is their job.
Money makes the American elections go round...literally. If you don't have millions and millions of dollars to constantly funnel into a huge campaign, then you've lost before you've even begun. (Compare this to Europe, where any Average Joe can get elected due to laws providing federal funding for his/her campaign.) Therefore, politics is reserved for the upper, very rich crust of society...and, of course, their "sponsors"...corporations, organizations, and their lobbies.
In order to get money for their campaigns, all American politicians, unless they're Ross Perot and are mega-rich, sell out to corporations and their other "big sponsors".
American politicians are also in a constant state of getting "re-elected", meaning it's a vicious cycle that only ends when they decide to "retire" and get a real job. Furthermore, the career politician with the most campaign funds is, statistically, shown to win more often, or have a higher chance of winning, than those with less money. Once elected, it's very hard to get an incumbent out of office in the next election, unless they mess up or have a scandal.
Said politicians are basically "paid" to introduce bills and ratify laws that will help their "sponsors" and in turn, get them more campaign funds from "delivering to said sponsors" to get them re-elected. [I'm not even going to touch on probable "personal gifts" (a.k.a. bribes) on behalf of the sponsors later on.]
The whole thing is one big, giant, corrupt mess.
There you have it. The U.S. is secretly a kleptocracy.
This is why I do not support any candidates any more, not even Romney or Obama. Even though both have their own "personal" sources of wealth, both are partial to their own Parties, agendas, and selfish interests.
Look at the Obamas, Rick Santorum, and countless other Party members. Each one advocates what they think "is best" for our nation. America is becoming "Big Brother" or a "nanny state".
I don't know about everyone else, but I know that I don't need to be told by our government what to eat and what not to eat, how to act, what medicines to take, etc. Whatever happened to the liberty of being in control of your own life?
The first problem a lot of people recognized with democracy is that it was possible for a large group of people to pass laws in order to take posession of other people's money or property. The majority in this country wants more than what they have, so they will vote for socialists like Obama. I think it's terrible that in a democracy we have only two real parties and one of them is based almost entirely on the aforementioned problem associated with legislated theft. Robin Hood politics have defined the liberal agenda. A candidate like Ron Paul is so rare that the opportunity to elect him cannot be wasted. We may not see another person in the near future willing to do what it takes to get us out of debt.
Chucky Stuart
Gotta give Kudos to Chucky... perfectly targeted comment.
blahblah-2632236 - Give me an example of a successful Libertarian society. The Ayn Rand theory looks great as a novel. But, you fail to understand that a civilized society cannot survive without modern infrastructure, educational system and laws to protect the society. It is childish and silly to believe, the market disciplines itself. The great recession is a perfect example of market self regulation.
How about we elect a guy who has not one cent of big corporate sponsorship + blatantly ignored in media because most media is biased for corporations and corporation puppets?
Romney is A FORMER CEO. I do not trust businessmen as president, because who will they likely give power to? BIG BUSINESS.
Might as well call ourselves United States of DerpWorldPolice And Corporate America if Romney(or Obama again) is voted in.
Obama is and always will be a liar. He used the constitution as a piece of toilet paper. Our rights are being washed away. He even appointed people without congress' consent, and has kept these wars going long after he has been in office when he promised to pull the troops out.
He signed the national defense authorization act! This gives the federal government the power to incarcerate(Gitmo or FEMA imprisonment) and/or kill(assassinate) anyone domestically(i.e. anyone within the United States), WITHOUT REASON AND TRIAL, suspected of committing a "belligerent act" not just "being associated with terrorism".
Please tell me you see the wrongness of this act. Do not pull the covers and blinds over your eye on Obama. He has lied to the American people(and so has the majority of congress... Ron Paul voted AGAINST big spending, the bailouts, and against the NDAA). Enough is enough.
Now... Ron Paul has been getting bad treatment. Why?
Because chickenhawks(lolothergopnominees) and big businesses HATE Dr Paul's views.
They HATE a free market, and small competitors.
They HATE big government being scaled down to what it actually is supposed to be.
They do NOT want their WAR MACHINE to stop. And I am tired of unsanctioned warring, and our economic issues not being solved at all.
Why do we even live here if all of this is happening? Do we not give a damn about the constitution anymore? Can't you see corporations are taking away our rights, and they are given excessive rewards in return? What is the point of all these occupy protests?
Romney will not change anything, he is simply yet another Bush Jr clone-- 'wars, wars, wars, oh and free rewards, oh I mean bailouts, oh I mean uh... free monies for corporations too, yay'. Obama will just continue to lie to the people and do whatever the hell he wants.
If we want real change, look to the one man who has not yielded to the STATUS QUO for his entire congressional periods combined. The one man who believes in liberties, freedom, and America and not policing the entire world, and spending all of our money on baseless stupidity.
Look at Doctor Ronald Paul, his views are not dangerous. He is not racist. Those papers were proved to have been written by someone else, and dragged out by those who are afraid of REAL, pure For-America ideas. The only true danger he poses is to the views of the coalition of wardogs and corporations who capitalize off of these needless and frivolous "wars"!
RON PAUL 2012.
it's not his racism, it's his silly, head-in-the-sand Foreign Policy. He needs to grow up and get a clue there...
So tart, how does obamas goal of a billion dollar campaign fund suit ya?
If you want to talk about buying votes, what say you on obamas insisting that the 98% don't need to do anything since the 2% and businesses aren't paying their fair share. Shame that IRS data says otherwise. Then again, obama is good at not defining what fair or affordable is.
His 'head-in-the-sand' foreign policy is what Obama is currently espousing. He is cutting the military and looking to pull out of lots of countries. How is this different from what Paul espouses? Paul has stated that he understands that the situation we currently face took many years to create. He is not an idiot. He is correct about the Federal Reserve and our national debt which, currently, indebts every citizen to the tune of $64,000 per person.
He has a strong showing with the military, primarily because he is not in favor of colonialist policies that tend to create the wars we get into. Obama was all over Libya, at the behest of NATO not because of Gadaffi's barbarity, but rather, because England and France get a huge amount of their oil from Libya. Notice how many tomahawks are pointed at Syria, a country whose leadership is currently massacring its populace as badly as Libya did.
I listened to an interview with Paul, asking about some of his more extreme, anti-establishment views and how he planned to implement them. His response was that he wasn't going to start implementing policies that were contrary to our national welfare, but rather, that he would begin to set in place policies that would begin to return us to our Constitutionally mandated authorities, and his Constitution first ideology is the only ideology that I ascribe to. We have a constitution, it was written for a reason, the reason was sound and to toss it out like an inconvenience is unconscionable.
Anyone that is voting for Obama again is just plain dumber than dirt or got shi.. for brains , four more years of this guy and we can bend over and kiss our as.. goodbye.
Obama is as much a part of crony-capitalism as Romney. They are both establishment hacks, look at their campaign financers. Don't see a lot of difference. Obama is a narcissist and Romney, well, Romney is a republican of the old school. Obama has the opportunity to destroy our civil liberties and is working hard to get the job Bush started done. All of our presidents, all those coming after JFK, are hacks and play into the party politics.
Paul is the only one who isn't bought by big pharma, big oil, big banks and crony-capitalists. That's why he is demonized and marginalized, he scares them and they can't manipulate him to keep the machine rolling.
Anyone who doesn't understand what he is talking about vis a vis the Fed should watch this little youtube cartoon. The OWS folks have a glimmer of what is happening but they really don't get it, not because of not wanting to, but rather, because the information is difficult to grasp and the finger pointers of blame always direct blame away from themselves. Note that all the media is owned by mega corporations, the propaganda is complete.

Ron Paul is not backed by billionaires, he's back by average U.S. citizens, small businesses, and entrepreneurs.
Mitt Romney is infested with them. And Barhuh Liarbama isn't too far from him.
When all is said and done, it doesn't matter which one of their clowns wins the GOP nomination.
None of those bozos can hold a candle to Barack Obama, and none of them can beat him in November.
Ayn Rand's theory made for crap novels. They are so boring they are unreadable. Her characters are as flat and as uninteresting as cardboard.
Libertarian-ism is just a fancy word for anarchy.
blahblah, the problem with people who think the way you do is that they fail to factor reality into the equation.
There has never been, nor will there ever be, a society that can provide all things to all people.
We are ALL going to pay taxes to whichever government is in authority that will not benefit each one of us personally and directly. That is the price we pay to live as civilized human beings.
The majority in this country does not want a free ride. We only want to have our opportunity back, the opportunity that has been taken away from us by corporate greed. We want to send our kids to college and afford to live in our own homes. That has been taken from us and WE WANT IT BACK.
The laws that have been passed to "take possession of other people's money or property" were passed by the wealthy-- who have bought and paid for their political influence--to take away from the middle class.
We are tired of living paycheck to paycheck, assuming we have a job, while Mr. CEO can decide on a whim to send our job overseas, or lay us off and buy himself a condo in Aspen with the money he has 'saved'.
You might not realize it, but the strength of this country is the middle class, not the wealthy. The middle class workers actually do the work, while the wealthy business owners and corporate CEOs make stupid decisions and run businesses into the ground. Then they bail out with their golden parachutes and leave us holding the bag.
A point will come in your life when you are elderly and no longer able to work. Do you want a safety net for the end of your life, or are you OK with being put out into the street? I bet you treat your dog better than that. Is it "Robin Hood" politics for our society to care for those who are old and sick?
Have you ever visited a third world country like Bangladesh where there is no safety net? Do you really want to see crowds of homeless beggars on the streets of this country?
Shame on you and on people like you who claim to care about this country when all you really care about is yourselves.
I think Romney's dog story can stop him ??????????????????????????????
@kaybeetoys
If you're so concerned about getting necessities for your retirement, then why not save the money yourself? If you invest money in retirement, it's fair to use what you [yourself] saved up for your own retirement fund.
Or, "reap what you sow".
The government shouldn't be taking money from other people to fund everyone's retirement fund. For those who are in true need, yes, but everyone else is fully capable of working and saving their retirement funds on their own over 40 odd years.
Better to manage your own funds rather than have the government's hand dip into them.

Don't think you understand. SS was started in 1935, average life expectancy 62.8 years, SS collected at 65. Life expectancy now 77+/- some and we still collect at 65. Enough money to last longer than most of us, if only Congress had the balls to put in place a law that gradually increases eligibility age for next 25-30 years and it, SS, " ain't" gonna go backrupt in that time either. Example: today's 18 year old would not collect till age 84. Pretty simple but convoluted by a bunch of self serving jackwipes and wipettes.

Romney has all the money - and he has a lot of money men, if he runs out of his own war chest. Yes, Romney has the nomination. Money, plus the nod from the GOP establishment means he is the nominee. Not to say that the others in the field may try and ding him up a little before the convention.
However, the general election is a whole different kettle of fish. President Obama will take him to school and show him that just being anointed by the GOP is not a coronation for the presidency!
Obama/Biden 2012
What will be interesting to watch in these debates is if Newtie (I believe in campaigning POSITIVELY) Gingrinch gets as nasty as is his natural wont. If it is gang up on Mitty time, how will Mitty handle it? Will he become his preppie, nasty, angry self, the real Mitt? Or will he become artificially "nasty nice" which always wears badly?
What about Perry? Will he finally figure out that he is not a serious contender? Man, when it takes longer for him to get it than it did for Bachmann to figure it out, you have to wonder how far the trolley is off the track!
Will Santorum become holier than God HImself? Does he KNOW that he is not running for Pope?
Stay tuned, popcorn is being made NOW!
My closest friend and his partner have come to visit for the week. They plan on making their killer martini's for tonight's debate, so put your order in now! (Martini's go great with popcorn.)
Ron Paul's campaign has received more money from members of the US Military than every other candidate including Obama. You people are so un-American. You all say support our troops but do not support Ron Paul. This is hypocracy. If you believe in the constitution and our troops you would have no choice but to vote for Dr. Paul. The same politicians that say we need more wars are the ones who wont fight them. Our children will fight for them, and THEY want Dr. Paul. Anyone in the media or politics that tries to spin Dr. Pauls views is against everything American and should be tried for treason. Please just google US troops are for Ron Paul and see for yourselves, if you can even do that without big brother showing you how to think
Feisty...you ain't never lied!
2-faced Mittens ain't even loved by the party first neo-nuts. Obama's people are gonna stripped his 2 faces down to the skull!
BTW: Obama/Biden in 20912! No doubt!!
Countingbodies. Most Americans are not strong enough or smart enough to vote for Ron Paul. The liberals have turned the nation into a bunch of spineless sheep dependent on the government teet. This weakening of our nation has been going strong since FDR used the Great Depression to fear people into socialism and as history will show you - this is a one way street...societies only get more and more dependent on government and social programs, they don't back out of them.
Human evolution is going backwards...plain and simple.
No-one but the media can stop Romney. They are the ones that are pitting he and OBAMA on the ballot thru orchestrated "reporting" of the candidates.
Even when the American people vote for Ron Paul in droves, somenhow, he will never get enough votes to win. It is a lock for OBAMA and Mitt. That is a problem for Americans, but not the powers to be that control this charade.
I know you brain dead Feistyites don't agree, so don't even bother to put me down.
Heil OBAMA!
Two words for feistyredhead: copyright infringement
Martini and popcorn? That would make me hurl as much as saying these newsvine posts are unbiased.
angryBusinessOwner: When the first response to my posts is a postive one I see some hope in the people. I cannot just go along with the fact we are going backwards although I completely agree. Honestly, we have to blame ourselves as well for not being able to help our fellow man overcome the brainwashing he/she has faced. People like to listen to people who are being paid to show them the way rather than ones who volunteer to help show them the way.
I always have to laugh when people like 'Feisty Redhead' get all up in arms about the proposed tax raises that will cause those making $10,000/yr to pay 100/yr in taxes--most likely for the 1st time in their lives! And then of course there's the scale going all the way up to $1M showing an INCREASE of up to 1.5K, I really have to ask...so what? After all these years of 50% of people paying NO taxes it's really time they paid at least a nominal amount, and the rich have had some serious cuts for several years now, it's time to let them slide.
As for those who are stamping their feet about Romney not releasing his taxes...why do you want to see them so badly? And next question...are you JUST as interested in what Obama is hiding by not releasing his college info? After all you took really great pleasure in slamming Sarah Palin over her college transcripts and just took all of Obama's on faith, right? So, what gives? And what's the interest in Romney's money facts, or any of them for that matter? Just the drool factor? I mean you already know he's richer than you or me.
countingbodieslikesheep, you have NO idea what being an American citizen is all about if all you can do is criticize anyone who disagrees with your views. You question those who support the troups but don't support Ron Paul. You speak of Ron Paul as if he were the Messiah.
Since you don't know me, you have no right to question my support for our troups. Supporting the troups for me goes WELL beyond what Presidential candidate I might support.
AngryBusinessOwner, so you feel Americans are not smart or strong enough to support Ron Paul? Perhaps Americans have more of a grasp of what a Paul Presidency would do to weaken our great country. It's easy to get caught up in the Paul hoopla, I did at one point. Then I dug deeper and realized what kind of a man he attempts to portray vs. what kind of man he really is. You'd find that out too if you'd take the time to look. I doubt you'd bother.
The Republicans insist in going to war with anybody that is "not Christian" They represent the new Taliban. If anybody is against their ideas they MUST die. (i.e. Santorum and Romney vs. The Iranians) However, they are very considerate of fetuses, and abortion is MURDER.
Of course, once the baby is born, is just a leech "dependent on the government teet"
One word for LiarsinPolitics: satire.
Uhhhh, phinephancy-4252115 you state Obama/Biden 2012.
Want to take a bet that it will end up being Obama/Clinton 2012... ?
Whistle, Whistle, Whistle
Viner out of bounds!
Try writing for Letterman - he's way out of bounds and can alway use writers that come up with "out there' comments.
Suite Judy ... asking people to pay their fair share is all well and good, but you must also consider that it costs a certain amount to live. Rent, food, heat, etc are a huge part of the pay of someone making $10,000.
If you make $100,000 you might pay a lot of that to live, but those people choose to pay that amount. They could choose to live less lavishly where poor people cannot.
This is why graduated tax is fair. There is a minimum cost to live that can't be ignored. Taxing a $10,000 earner $100 is putting a lot more burden on them than taxing the rich.
Would you beleive that almost 3000 of THE most powerful men (yes ONLY men) on the planet...burn an effigy of a child at the altar of an owl...to start their Summer Vacations ????
NO... you wouldnt ?
Google "Bohemian Grove"...dare ya...then go to YouTube and do the same. Then watch Alex Jones videos about this and the New World Order.
Then VOTE FOR RON PAUL
If that rich selfish snob Romney doesn't buy the election then the bias right wing Supreme Court ( aka Kangaroo Court ) will " elect " him.
Romney is such a phoney! He walks around with his scruffy blue jeans like everyman. You gotta know those jeans only come out in election season.
Great White.......and does he ever look uncomfortable in them, those jeans are not made for him, he looks so staged.
Gingerbread -
and I think someone else actually breaks those jeans in for him so that he doesn't have to.
The plastic haired bobblehead rolls up in a stretch limo and steps out wearing faded, ill fitting blue jeans! He's about as real as a rubber nail!
It's not Mitt's fault. Just about every male kid who does that 2 year stint, white shirt with tie, knocking on doors and getting grief from a public not wanting a religious conversion, has that certain stilted demeanor. The frozen smile without the eyes matching, the persistence formed as they knock, over and over. (mission)
While I would agree that Mitt is a platic fake politition - as most all of them are. How is Obama immune from this? The guy is a Marxist piece of trash. I would rather see anyone in the White House instead of this loser.
That's why when I see them, (Mormon Missionaries) coming I either,
1, Answer the door naked, or
2, chase them off with the shotgun.
Just doing my part to prevent my fellow citizens from going through that "Missionary" trauma
I heard he is uncomfortable in jeans due to the constant irritation of the "Mormon magic underwear" clinging to denim.
Does he walk that way because his jeans are so heavily starched or is it because he has his head up his butt?
So, you don't like Romney because he's a Mormon then, it really has nothing to do with his politics right?
So exactly what religion is okay with you for a President to be a part of or is he/she supposed to be non-denominational?
And this is exactly the problem. People are electing representatives based on what Religion they belong to. What is this? The 19th Century? Some third world countries are more advanced in their political thinking!
To Great White North Observer and the 8 who posted the "reply" comments that followed: thank you SOOO much for giving me the best laugh I've had in a while!
You're all 100% CORRECT!!!
angry bus owner??? apparently you dont know the defintion of what a Marxist is..i would suggest looking it up....and stop listening to the right-wing nut job radio/tv...and then try again
Irespond - People have a right to make up their mind, whether based on religious values (worthless values if they don't), divining or flipping coins. Worse yet by reading today's journalists or politician without verifying every "truth" they promote as truth.
Your superiority syndrome is showing.
It is expected that someone will call me names when they get offended by insulting religion. I can see that you are one of those people that values one religion over another more than intellect or ability to do the job.
People like you are ruining this country of the false belief that organized religion is the answer to our problems.
The Taliban is very organized.
US Constitution Article VI, Section 3:
The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the members of the several state legislatures, and all executive and judicial officers, both of the United States and of the several states, shall be bound by oath or affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.
....all executive and judicial officers means president, vice president, all cabinet heads (and all other members of that cabinet), etc.
Thank you for the compliment Jean. I'm just trying to add a little levity to a horrible situation. It sure helps to have a little sense of humor! And his religion has nothing to do with it!
IRESPOND, I think religion does make a difference. Actually, not so much the religion as the degree of it. I strongly support Huntsman for the republican nominee, and he is also Mormon. I do not support Romney but it has nothing to do with his religion. I could NEVER support Santorum, mostly because of his religious beliefs. Not that he's a Christian, which I am also, but because he would impose his personal beliefs on the American people if he were able to.
"Who can stop Romney?" Obama, and easily.
Ron Paul is the only conservative who has a chance to beat Obama. The Gop needs to come to grips with that. but of course they won't, they would rather lose with Romney than win with Paul because Paul is actually going to oust the establishment and it's war machine.
Then why is Paul not doing better in these early tests?
Because of media bias and phoney polls. Just read the comments and the truth will set you free.
LOL Ron Paul would destroy the US. The gop will nominate mittens.
Thank them. Obama 2012!!!
Media bias? Ah yes, that old saw for those who are losing. The fact is, and I know this is near IMPOSSIBLE for the Ron Paul devotees to get, is this:
Ron Paul is unelectable. Reasonable people, when they become familiar with his history, that of the John Birch Society, and his platform will not support him.
Yet you elected Obama who actually attended those darn racist rants of Reverend Wright. You can try the racism thing all you want but that gets torn apart time and time again. Unelectable is of course the other fun thing. Nothing about him being unelectable when it comes to his several terms in congress. Face it, the people that want to say he would destroy everything either want to send other people's children off to Iran so they can get cheaper gasoline, want to keep supporting several failed federal programs with their tax money and love those corporate thieves that caused their homes to be worth thousands of dollars less now then 10 years ago. Who is the only person that is against these things and wants to see those people who committed the same crimes Martha Stewart went to prison for, go to prison? Ron Paul.
Ron Paul is ancient. There's no way this country sends a man who will be knocking on the door of 80 years old to the Oval Office. The job takes a huge toll on men half his age; Paul would be a gibbering mess within six months of inauguration.
Maybe Ron Paul would take his son for a running mate.
That's a great idea, so long as he resigns his Senate seat first. Then we'll be rid of him and his nutty ideas!
Yeah, it is so nutty to try and restore the country back to when it actually worked and when we responsibly spend only what we had. It amazes me that people cannot see that what we have been doing is NOT working. Companies are leaving this country at an alarming rate as we have created an enviornment of hostility for businesses.
Ron's son Rand has shown himself to be a bigot. Ron sometimes seems like he's on the verge of senility(metally). I wouldn't want his son Rand to have any influence on WH policy, if Ron should lose his faculties(like Reagan).
Ron has a a few good ideas, but the bad ones he has tips the scales against him.
Bob: you heard heard about 5 or 10 minutes of soundbites from 1 or 2 of Wright's sermons, and you ASSume that makes Wright racist. White people attent his sermon's too.
Then, you ASSume that Obama went to every sermon Wright gave, for 20 years.
I guess that makes you and ASSumer, and not much else.
Calling Obama a "Marxist", is laughable at this point. Obama has gone right an a few issues, and stays mostly to the center.
If you are going to post an " I hate Obama" or "Obama is bad because _________" rant, at least put some effort into it.
Companies were looking for better profit margins and going offshore LONG BEFORE Obama entered the WH. The HC insureres were raising there rates almost every year, BEFORE Obama, as well.
You know, I am beyond exhaustion with the fringe talking about Rev. Wright that way. Why don't you search for that whole speech?
Regardless, if I were a black man of Rev. Wright's age, I might not be feeling so friendly about America anyway.
It is not "my country right or wrong."
Think for yourself, and where did you get that moniker?
(6.6) If a president didn't have to work out the evils of sucking up to politicians and pac committees, doners and the like, it wouldn't take a toll on the human body.
If you don't lie, you don't have to remember what you told them. Not as much worrying to cover your lies. I'd much rather have a constitutionalist for those dreaded American Freedoms, then a president AND congress thay writes those freedoms away. (see NDAA 2012)
And to all those who keep calling folks bigot's and racists when in disagreement, you are doing a fine job of making people understand how those feelings come about in the first place.
angryBusinessOwner,
A couple of things there, angry.
First, it might surprise you to know that when people see a moniker beginning with "angry" they have a tendency to skip over the post. There's a lot of crap on these posts that people aren't interested in reading to begin with, so a filtering mechanism takes place whereby they see something negative in the very first word. . . and blow right on by it.
Second, some us would agree with one word in your post as it relates to Ron Paul. "back". He will take us back to agrarian days, only the crops won't grow because there will be high levels of arsenic and other bad chemicals in the water and rain. Anyone who thinks that the Market is God and will regulate itself is deluded. There are reams of evidence to the contrary. Just as there are reams of evidence that people don't necessarily act in their own best interest. Take one simple example of the latter. Ron Paul voted against invading Iraq. Yet virtually everyone in this country supported the invasion, despite the fact that we were clearly being told a lie about the WMDs.
HAHAHA @ HANNAH. This country cannot call itself America if Dr. Paul would ruin it. Do you know what the constitution is? or the oath politicians take? Do you know what NDAA is? How about SOPA? How about Obama saying he doesnt need congress to make desicions? If not you had to of heard about the 1953 coup we orchastrated in Iran to replace their democratically elected president to install the Shah? Or maybe you wouldnt mind if Iran took over Canada and Mexico and put war ships in our gulf? because this is exactly what we have done to them. Anyone who says Dr. Paul would ruin America is un-American and or loving the corporate fascism thats been implemented into our once great nation. Hannah have fun drinking fracked water from your nearest FEMA camp.
US debt free????? For one year only....1835. The nation started in debt and has been in debt except for that one year. Is this what RP wants to take us back to????
http://www.npr.org/blogs/money/2011/04/15/135423586/when-the-u-s-paid-off-the-entire-national-debt-and-why-it-didnt-last
One has to wonder why this walking-talking credibility gap wants the presidency. The man has over a third of billion dollars and is expected to spend even more from his fund-raising activities for a job that "only" pays $400,000 per year. We don't know much about his personality because of the many gaps in his credibility. Typically, one should have credibility to have a personality.
It is all about GREED and POWER. Romney would get richer ( he is a crook ) and powerful to massage his ego.
Mittens was the gov of MA. Destroyed the state. Glad when he left. He is a TRUE flip flopper. The man is evil!
Get $$$$ out of elections!!!
Because of the power, the main reason why most politicians run for office.. To lord over the rest.
Who is this Romney is he a democrat or republican? What does he do? Is he a retired actor or congressman or something.....?
What is Romneyism?
What's all this talk?
Here is an idea maybe because the current potus has all but flushed the US down the toilet?.......Get with the program. I know like someone else said facts confuse you liberals.....your collective heads would split open so tread lightly....
ita,
Your post makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
No surprise there. . . .
ITA...........is in reality John Boehner after happy hour
Wavy,
Pres Obama has rasied more than twice that of Romney.
He was never vetted in the press either. If he was scrutinized as much as the repubs, he would not have been elected IMO.
Hey wavy, Joe, Hannah, Tart Doctor: Before you post, learn. If you are content to just spew hatred and label yourselves ignorant hate-mongers, fine. Free country, free speech. But you might want to look at Mitt Romney in Wikipedia and learn about the man. Here's a quote: Romney and his wife contributed $1 million to the Olympics, and he donated to charity the $1.4 million in salary and severance payments he received for his three years as president and CEO.[95]
Oh and for little Hanna-bannana, here's the real record for Massachusetts: Romney was sworn in as the 70th governor of Massachusetts on January 2, 2003. Both houses of the Massachusetts state legislature held large Democratic majorities.[106] He picked his cabinet and advisors more on managerial abilities than partisan affiliation.[15] Upon entering office in the middle of a fiscal year, Romney faced an immediate $650 million shortfall and a projected $3 billion deficit for the next year.[97] Unexpected revenue of $1.0–1.3 billion from a previously enacted capital gains tax increase and $500 million in unanticipated federal grants decreased the deficit to $1.2–1.5 billion.[107][108] Through a combination of spending cuts, increased fees, and removal of corporate tax loopholes, by 2006 the state had a $600–700 million surplus.[97]
Hannah, see my post at #2.17 and get involved in the Popular Amendment Movement. That is the only way you will ever get money out of politics (at least federal politics....unless you can get the same restrictions passed for your state.)
JW-2331968 - Why didn't he refuse the capital gains increase funds and the unanticipated federal grants? Ain't he supposed to be a small government guy? Yeah tell me another one! Keep the part about Mitt Ro-money on the QT because I've heard republicans hate politicians that raise taxes, I sure the POTUS will remind everyone in the general election. ROTFLMAO!
They certainly are brazen!
We can! The poster child for Corporate American profiteers is but one of the group who wants to maintain the corrupt status quo in Washington...along with Santorum, Gingrich, and Perry, otherwise known as the Establishment.
We, the people, want control of our government returned to us. Only one Candidate agrees with that, and it's certainly not one of the sharks listed above.
Yes, the annointed and vigorously supported by the media Romney , Santorum and Gingrich can be easily beaten by Ron Paul and Obama. If we had a Democratic press it would have become obvious by now.The endless promotion of Romney by the press and demonizing of Ron Paul is unAmerican in my opinion-it is preventing the best candidate for the office of the president, Ron Paul, to present his message and solutions in the public forum, Such unscrupulous behaviour by the media is interfering in our Democratic process that people think they have. If Ron Paul is not elected by the Republican Party as the candidate, Obama wins-maybe that is what the Republican Party wants- more of the same . It elected the war criminal Bush who bankrupted our country, so I will not be surprized.
Joe...
We've been indoctrinated to vote along political party lines. For the first time in our History, we may be voting for the man, and if we do, we owe him a Senate and Congress with supporters of his platform...no matter the political party label they wear. Good luck to us, the people.
How is that vote for Bush working out for you? You said it! The current economic problems in this country can all be laid at GWB's feet, he got us into two wars that we couldn't afford, that have caused us to expend our country's greatest asset, our young men and young women (about 4500 of them), we spent billions to bail out a bunch of crooked, unappreciative scumbags who continue to rip us off and all for the benefit of the 1% so they are not burdened by the repressive taxes that the rest of us must cover. To all of you blue collar republicans who support this insanity, I want some of whatever it is you have been smoking. It must be some powerful stuff!
bryman - "Dumbiyah" is the Invisible and Nameless Saint of the GOPhers.
Maybe not any one-single person can stop him but we the people may be able to. Vote for a true conservative not Romney.
Ray - So who do you recommend from that pack of clowns offered up by the "Party of No". Is it the face paint or the costumes that have captivated your interest?
While I am not totally happy with any candidate, once again, I do believe Santorum is genuinely honest and does care. He also does have many good ideas and a pretty good track record. I never thought to look at it until this past week cause I didn't think he had a slim chance in he**.
Santorum's seeming honesty being sufficient for you is a shame. I do agree he is honest. Honestly misguided and his practice of his religion is a half practice. The half he thinks we want to know about.
"Santorum has frequently stated that he does not believe a "right to privacy" exists under the Constitution, even within marriage;"
Santorums "Good Ideas"?
Be CAREFUL what you wish for,,,,
Santorum wants Constitutional Amendments so the government can regulate marriage and childbirth. What's next, a state religion?
He wants to be "the American Pope"! And we all need to say "NOPE"!
"Can anyone stop Romney?"
No........ especially NOT Oblabla.
ABO
Back in the liqour cabinet huh Leona
No martini's for Leona - she's already been at the Boonesfarm!
Stop putting an apostrophe in "martinis"!!!
It's plural, not possessive.
One martini. Two martinis.
"Oblabla" Leona, Really,,, How cute!
What are you? five?
snider -- right up there with those that insist on saying mittens or willard i'd say. maybe 6 but no more.
Obama and the new democratic congress will. The Republican party is the laughing stock of the world. To bad for them but their all being painted with the Flea Party Brush and everybody associates them with a bunch of wack jobs,oh and by the way thanks for giving congress back.
hahaha and Obama has the lowest rating of any President you have got to be kidding. hahahahahahah funny comment thank you.
Joe66: "and Obama has the lowest rating of any President"
LOL. You're kidding, right? ALL modern presdients have had lower approval ratings than Obama at some point. Do you guys just say whatever nonsense pops into your head? Or are you fed this stuff?
I dont know what planet you're from boy.. but even Fox News own poll shows Obama's Approval Rating at 53%.
That's about TWICE what Dubya Bush's was at this moment in time 4 years ago.
So you were saying?
Keep telling yourself that, Joe, even though it's demonstrably, provably false. You and your "fact"-inventing ilk will be crying in your cheap beers in November.
If the jobs reports keep improving and unemployment keeps coming down, as it has consistently for the past few months, Obama will be unbeatable in November. It won't even be close. For a refresher, just look at the 2008 election. :)
Perhaps Joe is confusing the President with Congress....
...oh perhaps Joe is just confused...?
Interesting read with references:

Joe66.....Reagan has a popularity rating of under 40% and yet won in 1984 !
OK! Stop trying to explain anything to JOE66. Its a waste of time and he won't be able to process what is posted. Pity him, that's OK.
If being a ceo in the private sector for years is all that's needed then why was mr grover's bushman such a failure wrt to the economy. An mba from harvard. The guy did even worse than hoover. Started with a surplus & ended with the sec of treasury begging on both knees.
marshal -- how is it that the national debt increased every year (according to the US Treasury) during Clinton's term? If there was a surplus should the debt be reduced since we would not need to borrow to pay our bills
The absolutely most likely one to stop Romney after McCain perhaps is Romney, himself.
Dr. Jill Stein a Green Party candidate for president is running an intelligent, friendly, collaborative campaign. Encourage you to cover Dr. Stein.
www.JillStein.org
Hey, Jill's cool and all, but she's no ROCKY ANDERSON!
Chucky,
No, she is no ROCKY ANDERSON. You made me curious, I looked him up. Where did you hear about him?
Phine, there was an article on NV yesterday and several folks mentioned him in their comments. It was the first I had heard of him.
Mitt Romney: the concensus pick for "least unacceptable"!
What a pathetic field this is.
However...............compared to obamacarter...he looks like a genius!
If you're not extremely wealthy, imagine how ignorant you have to be to vote for a conservative republican!
Apparently your definition of extremely wealthy is about $30,000 annually. Anyone who makes that or more is better off with conservatism.
Obviously you are the ignorant one thinking that conservativism is for rich. I am conservative, and my family of four is well off, but we are by no means rich. It is people like you that preech conservatives are for the rich that are truly ignorant.
Great point Kelly that he must believe wealthy is over $30,000 (but in my book that is barely making ends meet).
What's funny, Kelly and Sara, is that if both of you were queried on the entire gamut of social and fiscal policies and positions, I bet both of you would actually tilt more progressive. The majority of Americans do. They call themselves "conservative" because Americans have been brainwashed into believing that "conservative is good" and "liberal is bad," even though that's clearly not the case. Yet, in major nonpartisan nationwide polling, it's been shown that a large majority skew progressive on literally EVERY SINGLE ISSUE. (See this link for details: mediamatters.org/reports/progmaj/)
But hey, by all means, keep singing your song. There's almost no way any of these GOP clowns can unseat Obama. Incumbency is a very powerful force in an election, and the electorate as a whole is not nearly so unhappy with the president to remove him from office.
The only question is will it be a squeaker, or will it be a landslide, like 2008?
Ask yourself 'What would John Wayne do?' Vote for Romney? I think not. If John Wayne were alive he'd vote for Ron Paul. However, I never liked the John Wayne era. I'm more of an Elvis man and I follow his council in everything except food, politics, pharmaceuticals and women. So, I ask myself 'What would Elvis do?' Answer: Who cares, be smart vote Obama
He will be a fine President that can lead. Leadership is what we're lacking today.
But we would get whiplash trying to follow him.
Romney and leadership is like oil and vinegar.
Kellysview,
Agreed, yes Obama will be a fine President again. He stopped the war, dealt with terrorism and has acted honorably in every way possible..... To witch hunt against him is seriously unAmerican.
Start your witch hunt against this fine constitutionalist here:
http://www.businessinsider.com/language-of-ndaa-legal-to-imprison-americans-2012-1
So Kellysview, you do admit then, that we have not had leadership for the past three years.
Heil OBAMA
Fat Cat Outsourcer and proud of it, little people, because its for your own good! And he wears funny underwear
The bad thing about Mr Romney winning is a lot will have to find a job. I actually think he will make a fine President if not he still beat the one we have now.
Obama may be a Muslim, but Mitt is a POLYGAMIST cult leader who has fathered 12 love children!! Pass it on!
Thje President is not a Muslim, are you?
i'm going with santorum
Romney is Romney's worst enemy! He will say or do anything to contradict what Romney says, and has done so for years. Romney is way more liberal and conservative then Romney ever was, and he is for and against many of the same things that Romney has opposed and supported. Romney went surfing and now he thinks he created waves. Romney is going to put Romney out of business - just watch.
trainee-3379153
Who is Romney? I hardly heard of him until recently and from what's coming out of his mouth I can see why......
I guess sometimes cash really is king with no regard for the integrity of our country.
Let me see if I can help Tart Doctor. Romney was in the hunt for the presidential nomination four years ago--you may have missed him then. Before that he was a self-made multi-millionaire who worked for a consulting company which helped turn failing buisnesses into properous ones. He started his own company doing essentially the same thing as was enormously successful. Then he was hired to fix the SLC winter olympics debacle which were over 300 million dollars in the hole and he turned it around to make a profit for the state--didn't get paid for it either. Then he became the governor of Massachusetts who were looking at about a 2 billion dollar debt with more projected and in four years the state had a 600 million dollar profit margin. Tart Doctor, where have you been???
Judging from some comments on this post more than a few people have the memory of a flea.
Mitt may not be America's best, but at the moment he is the best for this job. I'd rather not hear, "give me another 4 years to finish the work I started", again.
77... Maybe you never "Observed" Mitt telling everyone that "The Corporation is the People"
His business experiences is in Buyouts & Downsizing,, He still gets his "GOLDEN PARACHUTE RETIREMENT CHECKS"
That is not the business experience America needs
Jim:
Barack Obama thinks same too. Medical induistry got everything they wanted during healthcare bill. Obama was allowing importation of drug his neitre life. But when drug lobby did not want, Obama said OK. He was against mandate but when insurance industry asked , he said ok.
RAJ,,,, Did you ever figure out that President Obama was never a Muslim? You really used to have a bad issue with that.
Get over the mandate garbage.... It was part of the plan when conservatives used Obama Care to defeat Hilary Care ---- Conservatives wrote the Affordable Health Care Act
They should be campaigning on it vice against it! ---- It works for the American Family
Hey Jim!
You have a 401K? If so you're earning money by being an evil stockholder of an evil corporation.
You have mutual fund? If so your earning money by being an evil stockholder of an evil corporation.
You have your money in the bank? Your earning interest by thier loaning of your money to evil companies to get started or grow.
That's what Romney meant by Corporations are people.
Of course, your money is probably tied up in welfare check, in which case you getting money from the taxes of corporations and those who work.
Which is it?
I agree...The only bad option right now is 4 more years of the current option, Mr. Obama. He is done enough damage and continues to blame everyone around for all the damage he has caused.
You hate the man for correcting Bushes mistakes. wow
It doesnt matter who wins. None of them can change anything that going on . I think you have to fix where you live and your own state ,before you can fix the country. There to much money involved.
Jim gets a US Treasury check...not a 401 k.
77Observer - its gonna take at least another 4 years to fix the 8 previous years. Talk about DUMB & DUMBER - If you just keep on going back and forth between the two parties 'cause everything isn't going quite the way you figured it might have 4 years ago, you will never dig yourselves out!
Somehow, I just can't see Pat Robertson voting for Mormon Mitt. He will probably sulk at home on election day reading his Bible and sticking pins in Voodoo dolls
