“Michelle Obama was privately fuming, not only at the president’s team, but also at her husband,” the New York Times writes of a new book out by one of its reporters. “In the days after the Democrats lost Edward Kennedy’s Senate seat in January 2010, Barack Obama was even-keeled as usual in meetings, refusing to dwell on the failure or lash out at his staff. The first lady, however, could not fathom how the White House had allowed the crucial seat, needed to help pass the president’s health care legislation and the rest of his agenda, to slip away, several current and former aides said. To her, the loss was more evidence of what she had been saying for a long time: Mr. Obama’s advisers were too insular and not strategic enough. She cherished the idea of her husband as a transformational figure, but thanks in part to the health care deals the administration had cut, many voters were beginning to view him as an ordinary politician.”
More: “The Michelle Obama of January 2012 is an expert motivator and charmer, a champion of safe causes like helping military families and ending childhood obesity, an increasingly canny political player eager to pour her popularity into her husband’s re-election campaign. But interviews with more than 30 current and former aides, as well as some of the first couple’s closest friends, conducted for “The Obamas,” a new book, show that she has been an unrecognized force in her husband’s administration and that her story has been one first of struggle, then turnaround and greater fulfillment.”
Political Wire notes this quote in the book from President Obama to former Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel: "I'm not accepting it [Emanuel’s resignation]. Your punishment is that you have to stay here and get this bill done. I'm not letting you off the hook."

Mr. President, I have a piece of advise as a long time married wife - If mama ain't happy, ain't NO ONE happy!!!!
Make your wife your chief advisor, you and the country will be better for it!
Why set any store by the content of a book written by....Whoever?
Hundreds of completely false books have been written about this First couple, and the First couples before them.
Is this free advertising? Just curious.
Backhouse,
I have no idea, but my advice to the president is spot on....ALWAYS listen to your wife. She (and I mean ALL wives) is always right!!!!
Phine,
Michelle is a real force for change.
She is doing unprecedented work for military families with her Joining Forces and Let's Move iniatives. First Lady is getting a lot of response and traction from businesses & help from every sector. This First couple is doing more for our military servicefolks than any previous Administration.

Backhouse,
Michelle Obama is one of women I admire most. Believe me, with a vet in the house, her work (along with Jill Biden) is an inspiration. Having been involved with the Navy Ombudsman program when hubby was in, it is great to see someone with her stature bringing attention to the families.
In my opinion, he needs to take his wife out of the white house with himself and then the country will be better. Obama said it perfectly when he campaigned in 2008, "We cannot afford 4 more years."

You are entitled to your opinion; however in my opinion your is oblivious.
Bev, with You.
Anyone who presumes to know what is said privately is full of it. Informed couples & friends who listen to each other can deal with stuff together, as life arises.
nrambr, you couldn't polish Obama's shoes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guess what michelle, your husband chose these advisors, they didn't choose him...
On a variety of occasions on bloombergTV analysts brought up the fact that obama didn't want to expand his circle of advisors from his days as a state senator. Perhaps he should have.
............................................"Boring"
I knew I liked Michelle Obama! She and I think alike. PS I'm pouring my energies into Barack's reelection too :)
Amy,
When will men learn just to listen to their wives? We are always right!!!!
Michelle Obama is one of the most honest, real, and down-to-earth First Ladies we have ever had. She is an inspiration to everyone.
Barack was right when he said he married up. The two of them together are an unstoppable team.
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
Obama/2012 Guaranteed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
