A new NBC News-Marist poll of NH Republicans shows Romney with a 20-point lead. NBC's Chuck Todd reports.
Just four days until Tuesday’s New Hampshire primary, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney now enjoys a 20-point advantage over his nearest rival in the Granite State, according to a new NBC News-Marist poll conducted after his photo-finish victory in Iowa.

The survey also shows a double-digit bounce since late November in the state for former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum – who trailed Romney by a mere eight votes in Iowa – as well as a 15-point decline for former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
And it finds that New Hampshire voters have begun to make up their minds before the Jan. 10 contest, with six in 10 now strongly supporting their candidate of choice.
According to the poll, Romney gets the backing of 42 percent of likely Republican primary voters in New Hampshire, including those leaning toward a particular candidate.
He’s followed by Texas Rep. Ron Paul at 22 percent, Santorum at 13 percent, Gingrich and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman both tied at 9 percent, and Texas Gov. Rick Perry at 1 percent.
More than a month ago – in an NBC-Marist poll conducted Nov. 28-30 – Romney stood at 39 percent, Gingrich at 24 percent, Paul at 16 percent, Huntsman at 9 percent, Perry at 3 percent and Santorum at 2 percent.
What’s more in this newest survey, 60 percent of likely voters say they strongly support their candidate of choice, up from 49 percent in the last poll. Just 11 percent say they might vote differently.
Electability and ideology help Romney
Electability and the state’s ideological makeup are helping Romney in New Hampshire.
Sixty-five percent of likely primary voters believe that the former Massachusetts governor has the best chance of beating President Barack Obama in November. And more than 60 percent of these voters prefer an electable nominee to one who is a true conservative.
Romney still underperforms among conservative voters, Tea Party supporters and evangelical Christians in the state -- but not to the extent he did in Iowa.
'Meet The Press' moderator David Gregory joins Brian Williams.
Indeed, he leads among very conservative voters (getting 30 percent to 27 percent for Santorum), Tea Party supporters (35 percent to Paul’s 25 percent) and evangelical Christians (31 percent to Santorum’s 30 percent).
In addition, there are fewer of these more conservative voters in New Hampshire than there were in Iowa.
“New Hampshire is a very different ballgame than Iowa,” says Lee Miringoff, the director of Marist College’s Institute for Public Opinion, which conducted the survey.
Paul’s low ceiling, debates matter
While Paul sits in second place in the NBC-Marist poll, he has a lower ceiling than Santorum has. Forty-three percent of likely voters find Paul unacceptable, versus 25 percent who say the same about Santorum.
Meanwhile, 44 percent find Gingrich unacceptable, and 54 percent find Perry unacceptable.
Just 16 percent of these voters say that Romney is not acceptable.
The poll also shows that the debates – and two more of them take place this weekend – have mattered to New Hampshire voters.
A combined 45 percent say they have helped decide their vote a “great deal” or a “good amount.” That’s compared with a combined 10 percent who say the same about the results from the Iowa caucuses, and a combined 20 percent who say the same thing about seeing the candidates in person.
Obama remains under water in New Hampshire
Finally, President Obama’s job-approval rating in New Hampshire stands at 40 percent among registered voters, which is identical to where it was in late November.
He carried New Hampshire by nearly 10 percentage points in the 2008 general election.
The NBC-Marist poll was conducted Jan. 4-5, and its margin of error for the 2,260 registered voters surveyed is plus-minus 2.1 percentage points. The margin of error for the 711 likely New Hampshire Republican primary voters is plus-minus 3.7 percentage points.

Romney is a rich greedy selfish snob who would sell his children for a buck or a vote. The definition of a professional politician.
Beats an unprofessional politician that would sell his soul for another term. It usually comes down to voting for the one you see as least harmful and sometimes that is difficult.
Romney is just a Paper cut out of the Socialist Obammy!... Oh by the way maybe a liberal Socialist can tell meThis... If I buy a Obammy Mobile!.. How long will it take China to make it!???? Oh and who gets the money GM or China!???.. So much for Green JOBS!HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!, Whos this Joke ON!....
Remember, John Birch Society meeting on Wednesday at 6:30PM. Be there.
On January the 26 Obama has a hearing before a Judge in Georgia to determine if he will be allowed on the ballot there because he is not a natural citizen.

Ron Paul He the Man if He can't do it america is DAMNED and I can't wait bankers and stock brokers jumping from windows, no section 8 so the housing market will collapse and rent will be $150 to $200 a month for a livable place, no food stamps so the chain food store and corporate farms will die and food will become reasonably priced, No IRS so the government will no longer be in your pocket and you can earn a living with out worry of big brother or there laws that limit the citizens rights to compete against the huge corporate and government infrastructural.
Robert, your brain added but MSMBC removed it. LMAO
The best part of the whole article is the last 3 paragraphs.
ANYBODY BUT OBAMA 2012!!!
Yes your name makes total sense what with your statement... You correctly identify Congress as the problem then attempt to correct it not by recycling Congress but the President? Typical so very typical and oh so revealing.
Willard (Mittens) Romney, Rick Santorum, and Newt Gingrich are three of the most devout Chickenhawks on the trail today. Obama could be included as well, but that will count later. These three circus clowns have no problem whatsoever talking tough, and vicariously waging war, as long as somebody else's sons and daughters are fighting and dying for their bravado ! Since all three are pre-programmed marionettes of the Military Industrial Complex, one need not look far to understand why they are even in the race at all. Bought and paid for ! The worst is the mindless, shape shifting robot, Willard Romney. He opted to sit out the Vietnam War while his peers were fighting and dying in Indochina so he could spread the Mormon message whilst living in a Palace in France and bicycling the French countryside, thanks to his deferments, courtesy of Mormon Church elders ! Disgusting coward ! In another time, any one of these three cowards would have pilfered a Titanic lifeboat seat from a woman or child ! Here is a link to the complete Chickenhawk list :
I should not have to be vetting these cowards and doing the Mainstream Media's job for them, but since they are owned by the USA'a largest defense contractors, the chances of them doing it are zero. There is only one choice to restore America to the great nation she once was, and that choice is Ron Paul 2012 !
After a considerable amount of deep thought Ive throughly analyzed the candidates;
Mittens Romney will be the GOP candidate cause he most closely follows the teachings of the GOP, which in laymans terms means he'd sell his grandmother into bondage if there was a dollar in it for him.
Newt Gringich will not be the nominee cause his erratic ego driven campaign is mostly about selling his books.
Rick Santorum is so rabidly right wing that even the GOP doesnt want to get too close to him.
Ron Paul, while saying plenty of things that appeal to the great unwashed masses, also says the markets should be the decider in chief, which is problematic when the markets decide that profit is more important then humanity.
Jon Huntsman says careful rational things that are mostly sensible and reasonable, which is a no-no to the GOP, cased closed, you're outa there huntsman. Just not crazy enough.
and Perry....(giggles uncontrollably)...perry is an idiot. enough said about him.
Way to go GOP, good job on ensuring Obamas re-election.
Great analysis Tom. Even the analysis about Perry. LMAO
Hope they keep a good eye on the ballot boxes. In 2008 Paul supporters alleged voter fraud. It was in small towns where people all know each other, and vote totals were not matching up. There were lawsuits, machines, and boxes were impounded, but not the way they were supposed to be by state law. Mainstream media did not cover the story, and Mr. Paul did not make a big issue out of it.
I don`t trust the computer voting without paper reciepts. I see what Democrats were alleging in 2000, and would hate to belive it happens. That seemed to be the case stated above. Take a handful of votes from many polling places so it won`t be noticeable.
one word................ACORN.
One word response ............ STUPID!
One more word...Paranoid.
Obama is the Divider-in-Chief. When the healthcare debates started in 09 and John McCain wanted to have input, Obama is the man who said " John the election is over, I WON."
Obama is the man who said " The Republicans can sit in the back seat."
As far as JOBS go, Romney is a business man and Obama ( college professor ) wouldn't know how to create a private sector job if his life depended on it.
Obama is trying to destroy any chance Boeing has to create 1000 NON Union jobs in S.Carolina. Obama is a Union lackey.
Kiss me Leona!
Why not add one of Obama's latest business failure, the chevy Volt. lets see, 3 billion dollars in tax payers money to invest in an electric car, the Chevy Volt that costs 40,000. Fewer than 9,000 sold in the United States and all of them re-called for fire hazards. Like Solyndra, more of our tax payers money at work! Does no one see the trend of his spending and priorities? It is all about his failing green agenda. When does he stop? Does he think these kinds of investments that are losing money will help create jobs?? No!! But they do appeal to his base and his special interest groups. Keep up the good work Obama, you will be stopped - 2012!
From the liberal, moderate, centerside, it's not the history we lived through. Obama tried to compromise, GOP just said No! even to their own bills. Talk about schizo.
LARRY HOBEL,
You are wrong! Santorum is a hunter. He is NOT against the 2nd amendment nor is he a tree hugger. You should get your facts straight before you talk. So many people on here just spew crap with out ever thinking that some people actually do check records.
What a candidate personally does means little. How he has voted in the past means everything. Most candidates don't vote based on their personal feelings. They vote based on their lobby's and special interest groups feelings.
Apparently many New Hampshireites have forgotten Romney bringing in Massachusetts State Troopers to patrol the waters around his NH home? NH Troopers were not good enough for Mitt, I guess?
Santorum proposes to CUT
Social Security for all CURRENT retirees!!! See Huffington Post website today
Santorum has about as much chance of election as Leona does.
Who cares about Social Security at this point? It is like keeping the Titanic afloat by bailing with tea cups. We have 80 million going onto SS/Medicare. They will cost us between $20K and $30K a year EACH. If you multiply $30K times 80 million you get $2.4 Trillion. Just for laughs and giggles lets assume all any of them need is aspirins and Band-Aids instead of $300K bypass surgeries and $500K end of life treatments like the last generation. Funny that is more than many of the people collecting Medicare grossed in their lifetimes.
That would still be at least $1.5 trillion. We only collect $2 trillion in taxes so the defense and all the other services, entitlements, wages, pensions, federal contract work and everything else federal has to run on $500 billion or 1/7th of what it currently is.
Now they say we are down to about 2.2 workers per retiree but........ you have to factor in that 50% of all households don't pay federal taxes soooo.... they all get their SS/MediCare deductions BACK through Earned Income Tax Credits. So we borrow all their EITC with interest on another spreadsheet to make it APPEAR they are paying SS/MediCare when they simply are not. The wealthy don't help because it is and should be capped. It is an individual retirement account and not a charity/elderly welfare tax.
Sooooo.... we now have 1 worker (or less than 50 million) per retiree. This makes it $3.2 trillion to split amongst 50 million. $3.2 Trillion / 50 million = $64,000 per person per year. Even the "just for laughs 1/2 number is $32K per taxpayer. JUST FOR SS/MEDICARE!
YOU are worried about a guy "CUTTING" Social Security.... Bwaa ha ha ha ha The shear ignorance of the masses simply baffles the mind.
OBAMA 2012!!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Rv0Z5SNrF4 The Compassion of Ron Paul
If blacks or whites beleive it is about blacks or whites...it isnt. THEY care only about money...and once in their club you can be either. The "club" is mostly white...with the exception of blacks like Vernon Jordan.
The rest of us are all the same to them. It is a fact that blacks do the same financially under either of these criminal parties...but unfortunealtely blacks don't relaize this yet. The purpose for these parties now is to simple keep all of us voters divided and at each others throats. Race is their tool.
THEY own both parties and all candidates except Ron Paul.
Moderator doesnt want you to see this THEY just removed 6 pages of posts from this blog:
Google "Bohemian Grove" and watch Alex Jones on YouTube under same.
Not a dimes difference in Obama/Romney or the parties...THEY are both owned by these New World Order Globalists.
VOTE RON PAUL 2012
You are correct but most fully realize there is no difference. You have to understand the "deficit junkies" voting logic.
The deficit junkies now make up about 60% of the population. We have 47% that pay zero federal income taxes and use the most entitlements/services. Then we have all the federal employees, federal retirees, military, military retirees, defense contractors, other federal contractors, educators, union pensioners that were bailed out, corporations that were bailed out, retirees of bailed out corporations, banks that were bailed out, welfare, disability etc etc etc.
That makes up about 60% of the voting population. That 60% would vote Adolph Hitler into office to keep everything just the way it is. The country has been slowly switched to a complete Socialist run Democracy from a free Republic with the escalation of the "mob rule rights" and the disappearance of individual rights. These people have emptied the Treasury, ruined our credit and are destroying the currency. They are also going after anyone with a dollar more than themselves with hate and vengeance.
It is one big freaking mess. At least Ron Paul can stop the continuation of this and get us started down a responsible financial path that can help build us a new economy. As we get the IMF/FED and military/contractors under control we can decide what we can keep and afford of the rest. We as a country need to COMPLETELY redefine our affordability of "charity" and "defense". Both words have lost all meaning in a financial sense.
I sure hope the people in N.H. wake up and dont' waste a vote on Rick Santorum. We in Pennsylvania didn't want him in the Senate and sure don't want him as President. I would rather have candidate 999 back before supporting Rick.
