Mitt Romney holds a commanding lead in South Carolina in the latest CNN/Time/Opinion Research poll, paving a clear path for the former Massachusetts governor to pull off an unprecedented sweep of the three early states on his way to the Republican nomination.
Romney leads with 37%, a 17-point jump from early December, the last time the poll was conducted.
And who says momentum doesn't matter? The two candidates who finished in a virtual tie in Iowa -- Romney and Rick Santorum are first and second in the Palmetto State in the poll. Santorum though is further back with 19%, but that represents a 15-point bounce from the December poll.
Newt Gingrich has seen his huge 23-point lead in December completely evaporate. Gingrich is now third with 18%, a drop from 43% in the last poll.
Ron Paul also made a move, going from 6% to 12%, for fourth.

I wonder what the unemployment rate is in SC?
They do have a lot of manufacturing.
9.9% in November 2011.
But it was 10.5% in October, so according to the folks here we should all be celebrating.
It appears that Romney will be the GOP candidate to face President Obama in the 2012 election. At this point it would be better for some of the remaining candidates in the GOP primaries to drop out. By doing so it quickly solidifies the GOP rather to continue bashing one another and making the race more damaging to the eventual winner.
Regardless, I seriously doubt that the President will fail to win a second and final term. The democrats may not be a great choice to lead us out of our continuing problems, but the republicans seem more fixated on caring for the wealthiest population than the good of the average American.
We need a mix of both platforms from both partys and each of the partys refuse to yield to compromise. Until such time as they merge their ideas this country will continue to suffer financial woes.
For a Romney who according to the media is not liked or respected by the more conservative camp in the republican party it's interesting that he's won Iowa, will win in a landslide in New Hamphire, and has a hefty lead in South Carolina.
I'm not sure if any republican primary candidate has ever won both Iowa and New Hampshire but to sweep all three would be quite a feat.
The white house is terrified that Romney is going to catch fire and they have good reason!
Here's a symbol of Obama's Jobs plan:
http://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/306225500
10 paid holidays, 13 sick leave days, 26 vacation days
Over $100,000/year.
To be the Invitation Coordinator for his newly appointed Director of the CFPA.
No wonder he had to make the recess appointment.
They have a lot of parties to plan.
Actually, it says the salary range starts at $53,500 a year, but why quibble about details? And the duties include:
"Develop and maintain a database to manage all invitations for CFPB to be
represented at external meetings, panels, roundtables, conferences and other
external events.
Research and provide background information so that the invitation can be
appropriately considered by decision-makers.
Monitor and track all invitations and to ensure that all invitations are
considered by the appropriate stakeholder and that decisions regarding the
acceptance of the invitation are forwarded to CFPB staff in accordance with
established timelines and protocols.
Develop and maintain the CFPB-wide calendar, ensuring that all accepted
invitations are placed on the CFPB calendar, and that all appropriate CFPB staff
are alerted and invited to the event/meeting.
Serve as expert on calendar issues, providing advice and guidance to CFPB
staff on use of the calendar and on protocols for consideration of invitations."
I'm still looking for the part about planning parties - I'll get back to you when I find it.
But did you see that it also includes dental? Now there's an impeachable offense....
Party Planner JoAnne, no matter how you spin it.
Hey, WCA, it was your link, not mine. Unless you can point to the word "party" somewhere in there, I'd say the "spin" is all yours.
And hey.....is Consumer Finance Protection really that great a party theme?
I sense a bit of jealously here. That’s okay I wasn’t
invited either!!!
I don't think any polling outfit has a finger on the pulse of the Republican Party's conservative base. There is no question that Mitt Romney is the favorite and the current frontrunner, but he is still viewed with derision and mistrust by the Tea Party and has an increasingly powerful conservative challenger in Rick Santorum. The right-wing elements in the GOP are more interested in sticking with extremist dogma that nominating a candidate that could actually win.
"extremist dogma"??
You could say the same about the liberal "environmentalist" wingnuts in the Democrat Party who don't want Obama to give the go ahead to the Keystone pipeline, and the Union thugs who want Obama to stop Boeing from creating 1000 NON Union jobs in S.Carolina.
Obama's policies are JOB KILLERS.
Leona, you can't have it both ways. It is the union "thugs" who are pushing for the Keystone pipeline.
Rasmussen Reports is out with a poll with a larger sample that has Santorum up to 24% in South Carolina. The same poll has Romney at 27%.
Why?
Rasmussen had Romney 45% with 39% for Obama when Romney could pull 25% in Iowa against repubs.
Worst recovery since the Great Depression ... no president in history has been elected with Obama's economic numbers.
They are pathetic .... don't even have capacity or are too gutless to do a simple budget!
Well that's just pure bull sh!t.
The wealthiest counties, the wealthiest zip codes in the country are dem big time.
Big business, big banking all overwhelmingly gave money / supported Obama. FACT.
Has Obama's war on the energy industry helped the average American?
Has Obama's "quantative easing" - raising the price of everything helped the average American?
What specifically has done to help the average American?
How is the average American better off? (Please spare the "it would have been worse crap)
Bob,
The polls I checked all have Obama beating Romney, including Gallup, CNN, McClatchy, Pew Research, Quinnipac, USA Today, etc. Perhaps the Rasmussen poll you saw matched Obama against an "unknown Republican," who, truthfully, often polls higher to Obama, probably because people like to give a challenger a chance.

Wow.. and the Dinosaur, "Whore" mainstream media propaganda machine, of the NWO, beats on... what a smoke and mirror psy-op. Maybe the "Flouride Heads" believe this Rubbish however, many of us can see very clearly through this nonsensical garbage. Ciao
Was that supposed to mean something?
What he is saying is that they brushed their really long teeth too often and are trying to distract from the fact that the new President has already been decided. Bread and circuses to convince the masses that the process is actually affected by them.
When is Jim DeMint going to endorse Mitt Romney?
Anyone?
He's being polite and waiting for you to go first, Justina ???? :)
Don't forget that corporations vote with money, since the Supreme Court has finally decided that democracy is measured in money, not individuals. Romney won that "vote" by a landslide and is a cash cow for the Republican Party. It is an illusion that the Republican rank and file has choices in the matter. Voters will get the candidate that Wall Street bought and presented, Mitt Romney, Republicandroid 1.0.
Wall Street gave 3/4 of all their donations to Obama in 08.
Obama is in the pocket of Wall Street.
Truth.....stop the liberal lies.
ABO
NBC today ( Chuck,Mark & Domenico) : "it is absolutely clear that (Obama) and his team want a fight with Congress -- and any legal challenge that comes with it. "
This is so UN American..........for a President (Obama) to be looking for a fight with Congress instead of looking to bridge gaps between the Parties in order to do "the people's business" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not to mention, in 2008 Obama was running around the country saying "I will rise above the partisan divide in Washington....bla bla bla "
HYPOCRITE.
Readers we are fast moving to a Medieval style Fiefdom where the wealthy will act as Earls, Dukes, Barons, or Kings. Gone will be the mainstay “Of the People, By the People, and For the People” which will be replaced “By the Corporations, For the Corporations, and By the Corporations”. Corporations (and the wealthy) will govern everything much like they did ages ago in the “Old World”.
If one were to examine exactly what the Right-Wing Republican Conservatives, one would likely classify them properly as Libertarians. In fact, there are some of them that classified themselves already as being such, and have ran before as such.
Libertarianism is advocacy of the maximization of individual liberty in thought and action. However, those who call themselves libertarians do not advocate any single or set of principles. They may be Libertarian Socialists, Anarchist-Socialist or Anarchic-Capitalists, supporting or opposing property rights. Many Libertarians are Christian fundamentalists of the extreme persuasion.
Libertarians may embrace a variety of beliefs about political structures ranging from minimization of the state to complete abolition of the state. Others also seek complete elimination of any hierarchical imposition of authority and therefore oppose capitalism and other institutions viewed as coercive. The Encyclopedia of Philosophy describes the minimal state as providing law enforcement, a judicial assembly, and armed forces, and, also describes the anarchic-capitalist view which holds that a government is unnecessary because private companies working for profit should provide the court systems, military, and police forces.
Now is this the future view of America? I hope not, but that is what we are heading for at break-neck speed.
PS: That Mayan prediction may come true when we mistakenly elect the wrong people in the next election. Not by being a doomsday for humanity but being a doomsday for our way of life.
Technically speaking, our Founders were Libertarians.
What would the Founders think of the current day Democrats and their vision of a "Nanny State" where the govt. strives to tax every move we make??
New pledge of allegience for the GOP in 2013: I pledge allegience To Grover Norquist of the United States of America. And to the corporations for which he stands, one nation, under God, totally divisible by rich and poor, with liberty and justice for those that can afford it !
Indie- you should take writing lessons from Leap-Frog above, mate. Crikey, he was even more on topic.
You liberals are sure funny. You make a big deal out of a few jobs, temporary jobs at that. Did any of you notice Christmas? You think these latest jobs are good paying long lasting jobs? All your boy Obama knows how to do is buy votes from the welfare crowd and the dumb union bunch. Pay folks to vote, its all the democrats have. Trouble is they want into everyones wallet to pay for the votes. That is just sick. Too many taxes on those of that work so those that worship Obama can have a check to have more kids who will look to the day when they too can get a check for having kids they need to get a check. Sure a bright future.
