Perry: 'This is Omaha Beach'

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- With a sense of history on the biggest political day -- to date -- of the 2012 cycle, Texas Gov. Rick Perry today compared the GOP's quest to defeat President Barack Obama to one of the deadliest battles of the D-Day landings in Normandy in 1944.

"This election is about stopping a president of the United States and his administration that is abusing the Constitution of this country, that is putting America on a track to bankruptcy," Perry told a hotel ballroom packed with more than 200 volunteers.

"It is a powerful moment in Americans' history, and you are on the front lines," he added. "This is Concord. This is Omaha Beach. This is going up the hill realizing that the battle is worth winning."

Those supporters, who represent 32 states, descended on the Perry team's nerve center at the West Des Moines Sheraton after the Christmas holiday. About 500 of them will fan out to caucus sites today across the state to advocate for the Texas governor.

Introducing her husband, an emotional Anita Perry thanked supporters for their loyalty in a campaign most recently scarred by a Politico article rife with quotes from anonymous staff members who savaged their colleagues for the team's early disorganization.

While Perry has gained few endorsements since his famously devastating debate performance in Michigan back in November, several of his early backers have made the journey to frigid Iowa for the governor's final push.

South Carolina Rep. Mick Mulvaney, Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback, and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal are among the allies on hand.

And they remain loyal -- and on  message.

"I will leave it to the pundits to look at polls and campaign staff," Jindal told NBC News. "To be honest with you, I didn't endorse Rick because of the polls. I didn't endorse Rick because of his campaign organization. I endorsed him because of his executive experience and his fiscal conservatism."

@Thomas

How many people need to explain to you that you have zero idea what socialism is. You aren't very bright are you? You just keep repeating the same prattle over and over again and all you're doing is giving people a good laugh.

"Hey everybody. Look at the fool who fancies himself to be like Thomas Jefferson." Not by a long shot pal.

Really Ricky? Maybe you're right.

But it is important to note that your party (the Nazis), eventually lost that conflict.

Hey, you folks in Texas. Will some of you please get some rope and a truck and come up and get this stupid ass stray of yours off the rest of America.

How utterly disrespectful of those who gave their lives, (and then some), on the beach at Normandy. This guy should have his citizenship revoked.

Many Texans are hoping he'll stay in Iowa, buy some expensive dirt, and grow nuts.

I wonder if Perry realizes there isn't a beach in Omaha, and that Omaha is not in Iowa, but rather across the river in Nebraska.

more debt, more jobs over seas, more on welfare and food stamps, less paying their fair share and more living on the dole.

Couldn't have said it better Thomas Jefferson.

Let's take them one at a time:

      more debt
The republic party are the masters of deficit spending

      more jobs over seas
Republikans looooooove outsourcing cause it busts Unions

      more on (Corporate) welfare
Republikans looooove corporate welfare (esp. defense, oil and pharmaceuticals)

less paying their fair share and more living on the dole.
Repubs protect people making billions and paying less than 12% on their taxes, welfare for the well-off and "job creators" with their entitlement attitude.

Glad you brought this one up.

Remember Thomas: There is always that class of people that no matter how much government money you throw them, no matter how many government programs you put them on, no matter how much of the people's taxes they take, these entitlement-attitude parasites will never get a real job, doing real work, off the government dole in the real world.

      We call these people REPUBLICANS.

I wonder how many aliases he's burned through before he got to TJ3. Probably quite a few. These clowns spew their hate as long as they can and make up a new one once they get banned. I've seen that quite a bit on FR.

All I can say is we will just have to wait until November won't we. My guess is the progressive/liberals posting here won't be heard from for about four years thereafter. The thinking American people have wised up. The Independents and even some Republicans who made the mistake of voting for Obama will not repeat that mistake in 2012.

It is hard to believe that anyone, even a republican, would even consider voting for someone as stupid as Rick Perry. But they voted for Bush and Bush is nearly as stupid as Perry and look at what a disaster he left the country in.

He took a balanced budget, a budget surplus and a thriving economy and turned it into the worst economic disaster since the first Republican Depression in 1929.

            LOL,,,,,,,,Your joking right?

You do realize that 30% of the Union members Republican Governors have been openly screwing are Registered Republicans?

Or maybe you missed the total alienation of Hispanics and Blacks over the last 2 years?

How many of the folks watched them fight tooth and nail for taxcuts for millionaires and then were ready to throw the workingclass taxcuts out if they couldn't give even more to corporations?

Since Perry considers the political field Ohama Beach THEN HIT HIM WITH THE BIG GUNS AMERICA!

Perry is trying to associate with the video game players who play Call of Duty trying to make them feel like he is their commander and that his goals are nothing less the same as when the allies landed on Normandy thus trying to make everyone who is against him out to be the Nazi's fighting back.

Lets not forget that Perry is against any type of abortion including the termination of life due to rape and incest which means that he actually condones these atrocious acts upon a women so he can scoop of the young to brainwash them into being his followers.

Perry is out of his league and should go home before his feelings are hurt right along with his roleplayers who follow him without question.

Apparently they have not actually taken a look at Texas's massive deficit and the fact that their largest source of income is,,,,,,,Federal Aid!!!! Between Bush Jr and Perry they have wiped out Texas and have the State begging for more Federal funds daily, They haved defunded everything from childrens medical to fire districts and still cannot keep up with the income taxfree status and corporate taxcuts that are generating nothing more than minimum wage jobs filled by un-needed cheap laborers

Iwoa is not Ohama beach--recheck your facts.

How is it that you see the GOP bumper stickers on brokendown pick-up trucks, scattered through trailer parks and when you see these people outside their environments at Walmart (people of Walmart) these look to be the degenerates on American society. It seems like they are the forst in line for any social program as well--looking for hand-outs and living as poor as one can be.

What an inappropriate and distasteful comparison. In election season, you can let a lot of silly statements and factually inaccuracies slide but sometimes, the comment(s) are so reprehensible, they just completely turn you off.

TO: Rick Perry and the rest of the GOP/TP Presidential Candidates:

Come off "Omaha Beach" if you want to. However, between now and November, you'll find yourselves encircled in "Bastogne", ONLY THIS TIME, it will mark your defeat, BUT, like General Anthony McAuliffe (Commander of the 101st Airborne Division), your response to the defeat will be the same as his when he so eloquently put it in his reply to the Nazi Commander that wanted his surrender:

                      "NUTS!!!!"

Obama is further right than Clinton... he has proved more hawkish than Clinton. The republicans worked with Clinton... So why the war on Obama?

Because the GOP is a failed political organization, morally and ideologically bankrupt, and demonizing Obama to appeal to ignorance and prejudice is the only "weapon" they have left.

Rick Perry is a moron. He needs to resign as governor and go back to high school.

Pay attention this time - governor good-"head" (whatever).

Today, 65% of those jobs no longer exist, the rest are all minimum wage jobs. Not enough to feed a family of 4 in the state of Texas. Unemployment here in Texas is up 55% as of today. On the other hand, Perry spent $1.3 million dollars of the Texas taxpayers on his private jet expenses. Screw him, frickin looney!!!

I had this tiny sliver of hope that Texas would be free at last from this uninformed, un-paralled, un-ethical dumbass. But noooooooo. He's too arrogantly stupid to be anything other than the puppet of election rhetoric, and the shame of the "male" chromosome. There's is no way this hand-sock puppet could lead any platoon up any beach - say much less a hill (ie Capital Hill). And now I read there are 500 supporters who have fanned out over Iowa to preach the gospel of the village idiot. Somebody PLEASE pull the cord on his game console!!!

Leona - I would suggest you take another look at all those 'good' jobs. You want to give us some of your "facts" on how many pay even $20k a year?? How many are 90 day temps? How many have any benefits whatsoever??- - you know like healthcare??

Next, I have seen the effects of Californification. Colorado suffered their pilgrimage - causing housing prices to shoot through the roof. Two years later - when the economy couldn't support the house payments - the keys hanging in the front door was all that was left.

Perry has done squat for Texas unless there was something in it for him. But if you want to buy into his 'onward christian soldier' drivel, go ahead. We're stuck with him for another few years anyways.
