Santorum wins support of TLC's Duggar clan

The patriarch of the Duggar family, the 19-member clan subject of a TLC reality show, joined Rick Santorum on the campaign trail Monday to endorse the former Pennsylvania senator.

Jim Bob Duggar made an appearance on behalf of Santorum at the Pizza Ranch in Boone, Iowa on Monday, "asking Christians in America to get behind Rick Santorum" in the battle for the GOP nomination.

The Santorum campaign, which is leaning on support from social conservatives in its bid to win tomorrow's Iowa caucuses, touted the Duggars' support in a subsequent release.

"Rick Santorum is a pro-life, Christian conservative with the family values and common sense business perspective that we need to get our nation back on track, to create jobs and to stand for what is right!" Michelle Duggar said in that statement.

The endorsement isn't the first social conservative act of support for Santorum; he'd been backed by Bob Vander Plaats, a social conservative leader in the state, and courted many of the same activists to have propelled former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee to victory in the 2008 Iowa caucuses.

But the Duggars' endorsement is maybe the most prominent for Santorum, given the ratings for their show, "19 Kids and Counting," and their identifiable status as evangelical Christians -- an important voting bloc in Iowa.

Yet another reason not to vote for Santorum.

How are the Duggars relevant to politics? Why not report on something more important, such as the expansion of the Patriot Act and detention just signed by Obama? I'm a full on Dem, but I don't endorse a police state.

As for the Duggars, will people now endorse Santorum, simply because the Duggars do? If so, then I feel truly, truly frightened for this country, when people are incapable of making their own decisions.

Rick Santorum may be pro live, however, you can't talk pro-life, and then give Senator Lisa Murkowski, AK. $10,000, plus campaign for her in 2 races, and continue to say you're conservative. Rick Santorum through Conservative Joe Miller "Under the Bus" when Santorum showed support for Lisa Murkowski, by stating on a public radio (Bill Bennett Radio Show October 2009) that Joe Miller did not have a chance to beat Murkowski. (Similiar statement). The Duggars should have done more homework on the inter-workings of Santorum and they would have discovered that what he says and what he does are two very different things. Murkowski is one of the most liberal Republican Senators in Washington. Murkowski is pro-choice. Santorum supported her reelection. I see something very wrong with this.

And I care WHY the Duggar's endorse anyone? While I have watched, and enjoyed the show, the opinion of Jim Bob Duggar, or anyone else, is just that ~ an opinion. 300 million Americans in this country have opinions.... so why is this news? And why should I care?

That's great Santorum...somehow the mayor of "creepsville" and his family represents an important part of your GOP base and their endorsement is both appropriate and advantageous. You are pathetic, the GOP is pathetic and so, unfortunately, is a large part of this great nation...

My questions are these? Why is the Duggar's support important enough that it made news? Is it because they have a reality show or is it truly something they know that most have not figured out? I think that these people are somewhat ridiculous to begin with. Why have so many kids unless your plan is to do what they have done, have a reality show and maybe get your name out there? One doesn't really have anything to do with the other but it does show they don't use their heads.

I always feel concerning politics, particulary candidates and supporters, in reference to religion: "Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's" as found in Matthew 22:21. Let the Duggars or any other Christian personality not look to goverment officials for religious leadership for Christian leaders should be concerned with the Kingdom of God.

Every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is lord. If you have not submitted your life to the lordship of Jesus Christ, you face certain condemnation for your sins and eternity in h ll with Satan. Don't go there! You don't have to. Jesus forgives anyone who's willing to repent of their sins and believe in Him.

Thank God! Now I can make an informed, conscientious political choice at the polls based on the opinions of reality TV stars. More importantly - who does the cast of Jersey Shore endorse?

For people who do not have enough sense to stop having babies when issues like premature birth and miscarriage occur, I think they've lose their senses. Therefore, who care who or what they endorse? They are crazy!

This just proves that no one should vote for Ricky, he's the leader of the CRAZY PPL! To me the Dugger endorsement means that Ricky certainly should not be a candidate under any circumstances whatsoever, we already have enough crazy ppl in office, we don't need any more. Anyone who has that many kids has at least a few screws loose, maybe more. Apparently to the Duggers, and to most "religious" GOPers (including Ricky), bringing life INTO the world is much more important that TAKING CARE OF THE LIFE THAT IS ALREADY EXISTING!

What? How? Really? Who reads and remotely cares about the Duggar family political views? They've got older children and if they aren't getting beat up at school for their parents ridiculous views and pro-creative needs (needs - weird, huh?), have to be embarrassed by their views and lifestyle. This story a) is a waste of cyber space, b) shows that there is little else worthy of viewing, and c) that the "happy family" is more of a "pu pu platter". I'd rather read about Newt's sexual prowess with crippled people than anything the Duggars have to say. You?
