Gingrich: 'I don't think I'm going to win' in Iowa

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa -- Newt Gingrich said Monday that he doesn't expect to win tomorrow's Iowa caucuses in a bow to his sinking poll numbers in the state.

The former House Speaker, who led in polls of likely Iowa caucus-goers as recently as early December, sought to lower expectations for his showing tomorrow night.

"I don't think I'm going to win," Gingrich told reporters during a press availability. "If you look at the numbers, that volume of negativity has done enough damage. But on the other hand, if the Des Moines Register was right and 41 percent [are] potentially undecided, who knows what's going to happen."

"Whatever I do tomorrow night will be a victory because I'm still standing," he added, noting that this is the second time he has had to fight after many political observers had written off Gingrich's campaign last summer after the majority of his staff quit

Gingrich has been pummeled by negative ads over the past month that have taken a toll on his political fortunes in Iowa. The NBC Newst-Marist poll released on Friday found that he had slid to fifth place among likely caucus-goers.

As for how badly he wanted to win, Gingrich said his desire to come out on top tomorrow didn't surpass personal items like his family.

"No, of course I don't want it more than anything," he said.

Gingrich also announced that he will be caucusing tomorrow night at the Blackhawk County caucus super site, a popular destination for caucus-goers where thousands of Iowans are expected to be in attendance. Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, who was born in nearby Waterloo, will also be speaking at that particular caucus site, as will Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

How is it that Newt was the only one that didn't know he would not win jack crap. The rest of the country new he would NEVER win. Because he is a loser. Just like Rick Perry.

It's a shame that these losers collect millions of dollars of campagne funds from poor, ignorant folks who really don't mean sh!t to them except for their hard earned money. They are thieves for taking money while knowing that they absolutely have no chance in hell of winning.

It's a scam. You know that people are getting "paid" with those funds. Their "campaign" might go broke but the candidates always walk away richer for having run for office. Dems like Sharpton do it too. I'll bet Newt walks away with a bundle.

Newt is not finished- He's like a bad penny, he keeps turning up. That A$$hole will be around for at least several more primary's. He won't win any, but he loves to show his fat face in public.

It is really just as annoying to hear all these religious bigot Iowans, blabbering incessantly about god and righteousness, like they believe their opinion really matters to the rest of us. You see, this is why God didn't put Iowa near the ocean...too many Iowans would be drowning from trying to walk on water.

Well Newt -- you said something honest for a change. Yes -- you're NOT going to win Iowa. Remember -- you haven't won anything since 1998 and then your own people booted your sorry ass out of the House. Newt -- you were finished as a political player 14 years ago. At best you're going back to Fox and then we can mute you.

More proof that Newt is the smart one.

I propose a new voting option: none of the above. If it gets the most votes, the office sits empty for the next term. Imagine a congress with nothing but empty seats - no sell-outs, no deals with lobbyists, no pay for doing nothing.... IMAGINE (Sounds like a good song title).

This makes "Reality" shows appear tame in comparison; Newt is just vying with the other losers to see who America's biggest loser is. Of course, if the impossible was to happen and one of these idiots were to occupy the White House, I guess we'd all be the biggest losers.

Is this the same newt that divorced his first wife because he didn't think she looked good enough for the future president? As a republican, I want a candidate that I can vote for, but it has to be someone that I can respect. Even more, it has to be someone that women and democrats would vote for - and the newt doesn't fit any of those categories. So, Newt, take your plastic looking wife and your plastic (flexible) ethics and crawl back under the rock where newts live.

What's that old saying, The man who thinks he can do something is probably right; so is the man who thinks that he can't.

Looks like old Newt is right, he can't.

Does it matter anyway who the Iowa GOP Caucus selects? If the past is any indicator, all it means is Iowa is most likely going to pick the guy/gal who ISN'T going to be the eventual nominee.

So everybody tune into Iowa so these self-important lily white evangelical nobodies can pick the loser.

Newt, ol' boy, you're not going to win in Virginia either nor much of anything else, for that matter. Now go sell your books another way and let the adults talk among ourselves.

Reagan lost Iowa and he was a religious nut. Goes to show you the Iowa caucus is irrelevant. Only 3 of the last 8 winners in Iowa went on to win the WH. It will all boil down to Obama's record on the economy.

I believe obama's "black liberation theology" qualifies him to be a dangerous nut as we've seen over the last three years!!!!

                  Hey Gary,

You are right but don't expect a bunch of liberals to criticize Obama for any reason, even if the country's future is at stake.

Liberals would rather elect Obama for another 4 years of failure, than see a Republican get elected.

                  Seems Un-American to me.
