Gingrich: 'I don't think I'm going to win' in Iowa

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa -- Newt Gingrich said Monday that he doesn't expect to win tomorrow's Iowa caucuses in a bow to his sinking poll numbers in the state.

The former House Speaker, who led in polls of likely Iowa caucus-goers as recently as early December, sought to lower expectations for his showing tomorrow night.

"I don't think I'm going to win," Gingrich told reporters during a press availability. "If you look at the numbers, that volume of negativity has done enough damage. But on the other hand, if the Des Moines Register was right and 41 percent [are] potentially undecided, who knows what's going to happen."

"Whatever I do tomorrow night will be a victory because I'm still standing," he added, noting that this is the second time he has had to fight after many political observers had written off Gingrich's campaign last summer after the majority of his staff quit

Gingrich has been pummeled by negative ads over the past month that have taken a toll on his political fortunes in Iowa. The NBC Newst-Marist poll released on Friday found that he had slid to fifth place among likely caucus-goers.

As for how badly he wanted to win, Gingrich said his desire to come out on top tomorrow didn't surpass personal items like his family.

"No, of course I don't want it more than anything," he said.

Gingrich also announced that he will be caucusing tomorrow night at the Blackhawk County caucus super site, a popular destination for caucus-goers where thousands of Iowans are expected to be in attendance. Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, who was born in nearby Waterloo, will also be speaking at that particular caucus site, as will Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

Gingrich: 'I don't think I'm going to win' in Iowa

Gee Newt how clever of you...

Ron Paul - 2012 the only intelligent choice for President!

Sorry Mal'achi but while I agree with Ron Paul on domestic issues, his foreign policy views which he gets from far left anarchists would endanger the lives of every American and the rest of the world.

As President and Commander-in-Chief, he would be able to decimate our ability for National Defense without any check and balance from the Congress. I believe in a strong Executive Branch that should be able to defend our nation without being hamstrung by Congress, but Ron Paul's worldview is not only ignorant, it is beyond suicidal.

Ron Paul has openly stated he wants to see Israel removed and the land given to the Arabs.

Ron Paul has no problem with the world's largest state sponsor of terrorism Iran, having nuclear weapons. And Iran's religious leaders have said they believe using them is to their advantage

Ron Paul dismisses the known terrorism of Iran to the US and the rest of the world

Ron Paul would allow North Korea to invade South Korea or nuke Japan

Ron Paul's foreign policy views would not only put us in physical danger, we would suffer economically because we would be hit with oil embargo's that would see gas prices quickly surpass $5 per gallon.

I am not a Republican, I'm an independent Libertarian voter, but the Republicans who consider Ron Paul a serious candidate do so out of ignorance and cannot possibly be doing so because of conservative values.

The following link contains the endorsement of Ron Paul by a far left anarchist

http://www.lewrockwell.com/gregory/gregory153.html

New Left icon Tom Hayden writes:

“Paul opposes the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. He opposes the empire of military bases. He opposes Wall Street thievery, tax subsidies for oil companies, the suppression of WikiLeaks, the drug war and the criminalization of marijuana. Those positions might just save America.” And Hayden is surely on to something."

Ron Paul is, as far as I can tell, a kind and decent person who has said important things—things leftists should endorse.

Newt has seen the light at the end of the tunnel and now he realizes it is not the light of day but that freight train that is about to knock him for a loop. He realizes he will not win Iowa but his problem is that he is laying blame every where except where it should be, on himself. His failure to win there is the fault of everyone else. His failure to get on the ballot in Va. was due to a person he hired that committed a fraud upon him and that makes the primary process in Va. a failed system. Everything negative that happens to Newt is always someone else's fault. If something good happens he attributes it to his superb intellect. Newt needs to pack it in and go home to Va. and take at least one of his wives with him.

Must make it easier to swallow when you can see two other losers besides yourself.

          #62.1 - Mon Jan 2, 2012 7:28 PM EST

Better than the Republican Congress... Which currently stands at 22%.

How's your hope and change working out, with the Tea-Party and all?

Seems to me the TP caucas went 32-28 in favor of raising the debt ceiling, which should tell you it's business as usual, and you've been duped.

Yeah, they were going in to Washington to put Obama in his place, weren't they?

It's not to late to stop watching Fox News...

I'd say Obama's 44% or 49% rating among the nation, is a lot better than Newts 15% to 22% of his own party.

Newt, like Romney, like Paul is a career politician. These fellows have made money yearly by supping at the public trough and telling Patriotic Americans (like me and you) that they will 'look out for us'.

Well Romney gave us the pattern for OBAMA CARE, Newt gave us 'pissing in the wind' in Technicolor and Paul has shown all of us how to whine in a manner which only irritates some of us.

Romney's dad lost a chance at the Office when he said he had been 'brainwashed'. That was his end. Mitt (Willard) has said some quite nonsensical things as well but none have completely done him in.

Newt has shown his skill and adeptness at finessing facts and truths in such a way that it seems he has been the author. When he is not bloviating he is eating, that is it simply said.

Newt is a longtime political hack who has no sense of morality. See his work in the House? See his work as a 'husband' ?

See his work with his current wife... a real artsy fartsy farm girl sort who would be as intolerable as the 1st lady, as is the current wide beamed babe holding down the position.

Mr. Paul, would likely have us in a civil war in a few months, a world war in even shorter period and he would tell us not to 'worry' as he is/was a medical doctor.

We might be better off without any of the current crop of candidates including the bumbler, stumbler Obama? But who will come forward?

Certainly not Trump the Chump. Certainly not Giuliani, or McCain Hahahahahhaahhaaaaa what a loser he is. Maybe we could get that Communist Bernie Sanders to run... run to North Korea maybe?

Come on folks.. it is time for the US of A to find a leader, a real leader. Not a career politician. Not some hooligan who is in the race for the perks, the free plane rides, the around the world trips courtesy of us, not someone who will sell his soul and our soul for a mess of fish, a gold medal, a Nobel Peace prize or the obvious worldly recognition that all politicians crave. Adoration.

Call Jeb Bush, Josh. He's probably just waiting for someone to ask him to run.

I bet he kicks his own ass on a daily basis, seeing this crop of losers running today.

And besides, after brother George, he'll look like a Rhodes scholar.

A VERY, VERY FEW of the comments to this point have come from thinking, literate people who contribute to society. Most of the comments just polute the internet. Dissent absolutely does not mean mean crass, crude and destructive. The attitudes and language of most of the comments don't match my image of that much revered desctiption ...an American! I am certain that all of you...those who write on such a base level... would be apalled if a candidate spoke like you write..or maybe not. I, like most of you, am glad that Gingrich has fallen from his high place and hope he gets out of the race. But in saying so, I don't have to make a stench in the world for others to swim through.

Romney behaved like a conservative and spent, through PACs, millions of dollars smearing Gingrich. That approach is so-o-o-o Republican. Gingrich was the victim of his own tactic.
