Des Moines - As Republican candidates crisscross Iowa seeking last-minute support, the Democratic Party is ignoring the field and focusing on front-runner Mitt Romney.
Today in a Des Moines press conference the DNC turned to a former factory worker who lost his job in the 1990’s to attack what it calls Mitt Romney “job killing record” in the private sector.
Randy Johnson, a former union official at an Indiana paper plant that Bain Capital purchased and then sold after labor discussions broke down in 1995 said of Romney, “I really feel that he didn’t care about the workers.”
Johnson said he’s telling his story now to let voters decide for themselves whether Romney should be president.
Now employed by the United Steelworkers Union in Pittsburgh, Johnson admitted Bain likely acted legally in its dealings with Ampad, but he’s accusing Romney of getting rich at the expense of workers.
“They let Ampad go bankrupt and they made 100 million…tell me there’s nothing wrong with that.”
This is not the first time Johnson’s story has been used as a political weapon against Mitt Romney. In 1994 Democrats used Johnson’s story in television ads attacking Romney during his campaign against then incumbent Sen. Edward Kennedy.
Romney’s 14-year tenure at Bain has been a frequent target of attack from the Obama re-election team and his Republican rivals.
Romney claims during his time at the firm Bain created a net total of 100,000 jobs, but he’s also acknowledged not all of the investments have worked out.
“We invested in over 100 different businesses,” he said last month on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” “and in those businesses, many were successful, added lots and lots of jobs. Some were not successful. That is the nature of free enterprise.”
On the campaign trail Romney argues that private sector experience is what’s needed to turn around the economy.

@Elvis Payne - Why so many posts and replies on this thread? Do you need to reboot?
MSNBC campaigning against Romeny. How many people did GM lay off when the Government took that over? You buy a company in trouble, then you have to do things to turn it it around, duh.
If a private business does not make a profit, then it cannot employ anybody.
Businesses that do not make profits soon go out of business.
Most of the richest members of the Senate and House are Democrats. And they got that way by pushing the little guy aside. So why do they attack Romney? Nothing but hypocrisy.
True,but they are right.
Don't let the facts bother you Jerry --- just believe what you want to believe.
It sounds like this Randy Johnson person is one of the union mindset people who think the main function of corporations is to provide lots of easy, high paying jobs with generous benefits to people with little or no jobskills.
Of course MSNBC would run this non-story.. I wonder if this guy ever voted for a Republican in his life.. a union guy who is talking about something that happened 20 years ago.. The DNC and their MSNBC sycophants are going to have to come up with something a bit more juicy.. don't worry, they are currently digging through the muck.
Don't like Facts?? For you there's FOX !
Seems that Obama had a recent investment in an alternative energy company that just went down the tubes, putting a lot of people out of work. So what is the difference?
Investing in a company CREATES jobs, which could be long-term if it succeeds, but are at least temporary if it fails. For their own personal gain, Romney and Bain dismantled viable companies that were employing lots of people.
And you can't see the difference???
And what about the millions of dollars that obama and his cohorts gave to those solar companys, let them get funding the same way all businesses have to. and let a company who makes the wrong decisions fail just like the small businesses have to do, there are provision in place that they can take advantage of without the taxpayer bailing them out, what happened to you are not to big to fail especialily thru mismanagement ans then turning around and giving huge bonuses to those who ran the business in the ground in the first place. How stupid is that?
All these posts demonstrate only one important point. It demonstrates that the real money changers have successfully and continue to divide America whether by class or by party the haves and have nots , the right and the left , the liberal versus the conservative, the Democcrate and the republican but they continue to to manage the great divide so that the voter is both Ill informed and Ill advised and when all is said and done nothing changes. We need not a third party , we need a different type of government and more importantly we need informed voters.
There is no divide here, I am a independent and dispise them all at this point. The idiots in office now from city government to the white house look for the best ways to help number one, and most of those who are running for office now are lairs and will say just what you want to hear, they know that if they can just get elected all it will take is a couple of years in office and they will be set for life. If you do not believe this look at what is happening in the white house and the houses now, they can commit crimes in office that are illigal in outside. About all you can do is try to find the one who is lying the least and hope for the best. But we do have to vote for those who say they will cut the size of government and stop funding in any way to pay for murdering babies, go back to (DADT) for the military and make it official that english is the language of America, make it the law of the land that marriage is between a man and a woman. Tone down homeland security on American citizens with a birth certificate ID at ticket purchase, start profiling as you do not have to be a rocket scientist to know who our enemies are. Control spending by getting rid of fraud and waste with prosecution to the max, and not by stealing from the lest fortunete and the elderly, they stole the money, make them pay it back with salary decreases and no raises. Set term limits for all elected officials and I agree that on extreamly controversial issues those who interpet the law must be accountable by explaination as to their cesision meets the requirements set by the Constitution.
Business seeks profit at ALL cost, if we run our government like a business what will it look like? I suggest this is a false choice.
All of the GOP and Tea Party are Koch Whores!

WE now export more fuel than we use,it's no wonder why the XL Pipeline is such a Priority for these folks! Time to pay back the Cockroach Koch Brothers! And where do you think this fuel ends up??Why would anyone want to make Romny President that same person that sent all these jobs overseas to begin with????
I cringe whenever I hear Romney talk about "job creation". I wouldn't have the job I have today if the execs at my company had followed the guidance they were getting from Bain. This is just a rich guy who got richer at the expense of ordinary people's jobs. He belongs in hell moreso than the White House.
Amen Brother and believe you me that all the politicions are no different, throw all the bums out and start over.
Yea, so what, it does not matter which party they are, all the rich are out to steal from the poor and make themselves richer. None of them give a crap about the poor except for how many hours they can make them slave for them at less than a livable wage. Wake up people and realise that the rich only seem to help with their so called charitiable giving, they do this to try to take some of the heat off. They have hired people to find ways to get the money back.
Jerry, your hatred runneth over this holiday season!
i think some body need to ask mitt to name 1 policy that obama create that caused the country 25 millions jobs???
