Obama agenda: Obama vs. Congress

The New York Times says, “President Obama, heading into a grueling re-election campaign, plans to step up his attacks against an unpopular Congress, concluding that he cannot pass any major legislation in 2012 because of Republican hostility toward his agenda, according to a senior administration official. Mr. Obama’s election-year strategy is an attempt to capitalize on his recent victory on a short-term extension of the payroll tax cut and on his rising poll numbers. As the stage is set for the general election in November, he intends to hammer the theme of economic justice for ordinary Americans rather than continue battling with Congressional Republicans, said the official, Joshua R. Earnest, the deputy press secretary, previewing the White House’s strategy.”

More: “‘In terms of the president’s relationship with Congress in 2012,’ Mr. Earnest said at a briefing, ‘the president is no longer tied to Washington, D.C.’ Winning a full-year extension of the cut in payroll taxes is the last ’must-do’ piece of legislation for the White House, he said. Instead, Mr. Earnest said, Mr. Obama will step up his efforts to showcase unilateral measures he is taking to revive the economy, though he declined to give details. Mr. Obama has used his executive authority in recent weeks to provide job training for returning military veterans and help students pay back their student loans. Further underscoring the jobs theme, Mr. Obama plans to return to the road, starting with a trip to Cleveland in early January to speak about the economy.”

GOP states have budget surplusses and low unemployment. Check the stats of Illinois. I do not want those stats for U>S. Now, reach behind you, AND PULL YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR A-SS!

Odd, though, don't you think, that the majority of Americans agree with the President that the GOP in Congress are the problem. Pesky American majority. What do they know?

What a great pile of dog do-do and RNC talking points.

This GOP mantra is really getting old.

Can't you wingnuts understand that stating facts is NOT "whining and blaming..."???? (American voters understand!)

What is wrong with you people... are you on tea??????

No, Not as stupid as yo uthink, they do not understand that stating facts is not whining and blaming someone else. It would require them to think, and make logical conclusions based on objective facts, and that is just not in their DNA.

It's sad, but true.

Nice rant Russ, but this Congress is the worst ever, the American people have never thought less of the republican controlled house in the history of approval rating polls. You know who they are going to take their frustration and anger out on Russ, the republican nominee for president, thats who. Welcome to Waterloo Russ. BTW I think I'll just leave your head up my ass for awhile Russ, really I wouldn't Sh!t you, you are one of my favorite turds. You like that Russ, I figure since you like to talk to people in that fashon you would like me to play along too. Ha I think you may already be drunk but Happy New Year anyway.

If the GOP goal was anything but their own personal gain at the expense of everyone else, I might believe some of what they claim. But given their exposed agenda and third-grade tactics, what they have to say is meaningless... juts listen to Gingrich who rewrites history with every speech he makes.

Per Russ

this man and these dems have done AMOST irreperable damage.

and how might that be? When you dig only a centimeter into a statement like that you find NOTHING.

GOP states have budget surplusses and low unemployment.

GOP states had lower housing costs and little new construction by comparison, so, yes, they got hit to a lesser degree by the GOP induced economic collapse. If playing and risking our very economy sounds like good business sense to you, elect a Republican.

russ-2423574 -- Maybe you should read 1984 and watch V again, because these are progressive in nature, against Big Brother and oppression by government -- For example "personhood" laws, and police brutality against Occupy (who you might note wear the Guy Fawkes mask). Heck even It's A Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol are about Big Banks/Wall Street greed versus the American Dream, as well as the 99% versus the 1% -- No Christmas holiday labor rights for you, or health care for Tiny Tim!

In the meantime, we are still operating under the deficits due to Dubya's "trickle-down" tax cuts for the rich, passed in a time of unfunded and unnecessary war, as well the 2008 economic meltdown due to supply-side deregulation in which banks are still Too Big to Fail, and a generation of larceny from off-shoring jobs to corporations being given the same rights as individuals. Old, failed Republican policies are what's wrong with this nation.

What have the Dems or president done, other than the stimulus--which did work to prevent a depression--and the Affordable Care Act--which is merely regulation of greed and abuse by the private sector insurance companies, and that doesn't go into affect until 2014? What else can right-wingers point to that supposedly has been so devastating? Name it and explain it. Just because you say so doesn't make it so.

Conservatives lack Rule of Reason--They are incapable of discerning fact from fiction, and of critical thinking and logical deduction about anything. In order for our nation to heal, we must contain their destructive world view of every man, woman, and child for his/herself. Throw the Teapublicans out!

the stimulus--which did work to prevent a depression

True Patriot,

Agreed. My work over the past couple of years involved stimulus funds, and a lot of the contractors I hired said that without that work they would have had to lay off employees. As it was, they kept them employed through a very difficult time. And the city where those funds were spent benefited because the contractors and their employees spent a lot of money there. And you know what? Most of these contractors were Republicans. . . .

    Phine,

The majoriy of Americans agree with this president? Perhaps the majority of progressives believe the GOP is the problem.

How can anyone agree with the 4th GREATEST PRESIDENT OF ALL TIME (his statement) when his record reflects the following:

    • Worst jobs record of any modern President
    • Worst housing crisis since the Great Depression
    • Misery index at 28 year high
    • Under Obama, US poverty rate swells to 1 in 6
    • Record number of Americans now rely on food stamps
    • Rate of economic growth under Obama only slightly higher than the 1930s, the decade of the Great Depression
    • Lowest US consumer confidence in 30 years
    • America’s credit rating downgraded for the first time in American history
    • 34th consecutive month the unemployment rate has been above 8%
    • Chronic unemployment worse than the great depression
    • Federal spending, the budget deficit and our national debt are all at the highest levels as a percentage of GDP since WWII
    • 46 Million now living in poverty, the most on record since the census began tracking poverty in 1959
    • Highest black unemployment in 26 years
    • Been to almost all 57 states.

  • Worst jobs record of any modern President

  • Try again, when he came into office, we were losing over 700,000 jobs every month. Since his policies have started to kick in, we've increased private sector jobs by more than 2.5 million, more than what was created (net) after 8 years of the Bush administration.
  • Worst housing crisis since the Great Depression

  • Oh, you mean the housing crisis that stared in 2007 due to sub-prime, and in many cases, illegal loans made possible by deregulation, and defunding of the enforcement arms of the government under the Bush administration? Is that the housing crisis you're talking about?
  • Misery index at 28 year high

  • And this is significant, how? But since you brought it up, just remember, this misery is the result of a recession, employment crisis, and housing crisis that all started in 2007, and can be directly tied to the trickle down our legs economic, and deregulation policies of the Reagan, Bush 1, and Bush 2 administrations.
  • Under Obama, US poverty rate swells to 1 in 6

  • Again, directly related to the recession, unemployment crisis, and housing crisis that started in 2007, as a direct result of Reagan, Bush 1, and Bush 2 administration policies.
  • Record number of Americans now rely on food stamps

  • Again, directly related to the recession, unemployment crisis, and housing crisis that started in 2007, as a direct result of Reagan, Bush 1, and Bush 2 administration policies.
  • Rate of economic growth under Obama only slightly higher than the 1930s, the decade of the Great Depression

  • Again, directly related to the recession, unemployment crisis, and housing crisis that started in 2007, as a direct result of Reagan, Bush 1, and Bush 2 administration policies.
  • Lowest US consumer confidence in 30 years

  • And this is significant, how? But since you brought it up, just remember, this low confidence is the result of a recession, employment crisis, and housing crisis that all started in 2007, and can be directly tied to the trickle down our legs economic, and deregulation policies of the Reagan, Bush 1, and Bush 2 administrations.
  • America’s credit rating downgraded for the first time in American history

  • Due to the Republican/TP Inc. parties holding the debt ceiling hostage to an ideologically motivated intransigence. Not to mention that the single rating company that lowered the rating, also said it was due to the Republican/TP Inc. party holding the debt ceiling hostage, and the policies they wanted to implement by holding it hostage.
  • 34th consecutive month the unemployment rate has been above 8%

  • Again, directly related to the recession, unemployment crisis, and housing crisis that started in 2007, as a direct result of Reagan, Bush 1, and Bush 2 administration policies. Consider this, the Obama administration has only been in place for 35 months. So how is an unemployment rate over 8% that started only 1 month after President Obama took office his fault?
  • (You've really made this way too easy, winemaker.)

  • Chronic unemployment worse than the great depression

  • Prove it, I do not think that is a fact. Also let's remember this fact: The unemployment we are experiencing right now is directly related to the recession, unemployment crisis, and housing crisis that started in 2007, as a direct result of Reagan, Bush 1, and Bush 2 administration policies.
  • Federal spending, the budget deficit and our national debt are all at the highest levels as a percentage of GDP since WWII

  • But still no where near crisis levels, according to economists. Let us also remember that before the Bush 2 administration came into office, cut taxes, started two unfunded wars, and implemented an unpaid for prescription drug program, we were on track to have the debt paid off by 2012. When the Obama administration took office, there was a 'built in' deficit of about $1.1 trillion (I think that is the figure, I could be off a little bit on that one).
  • 46 Million now living in poverty, the most on record since the census began tracking poverty in 1959

  • Again, directly related to the recession, unemployment crisis, and housing crisis that started in 2007, as a direct result of Reagan, Bush 1, and Bush 2 administration policies.
  • Highest black unemployment in 26 years

  • Again, directly related to the recession, unemployment crisis, and housing crisis that started in 2007, as a direct result of Reagan, Bush 1, and Bush 2 administration policies.
  • Been to almost all 57 states.

  • This is just a plain stupid remark. But I'll address it, anyway. The man was tired, had been to 47 states, and misspoke. http://www.factcheck.org/2011/06/obamas-bumbles/ Shall we count the times President Bush misspoke?
  • This would be an impressive list of disqualifying problems for President Obama . . . if any of it had been his fault. But as the facts clearly show, your assertion that President Obama is a failure because of these things is simply a lie. Not only that, several items were actually the same problem, but said in a different way (you addressed unemployment 4 different ways, poverty two, and consumer confidence twice).
  • You seem to have also forgotten that the single most important job of the Republican/TP Inc. party, as stated by Senator Mitch McConnell, isn't to govern, but to make sure that Barack Obama is a one term president. Their very actions prove this is what they are doing. They have blocked every effort by this president, and the Democrats to pass job creating legislation, including many things that they have been strong supporters of, in the past. As an example of their idiocy, they asked for a debt commission, and when President Obama said he thought that was a good idea, suddenly they thought it was a bad idea.

If anyone can be said to have failed, winemaker, it is you by posting this list of problems, and then lying by blaming it on President Obama.

The NY Times is now preparing a front page 20-part story on the history of Mormonism, focusing on polygamy in the 19th century. It will appear in Sept and Oct of 2012.

Democratics and President had control of Congress and Nation for 2 years but their crowning achievement was Obama Care which is now a liability. A year ago America voiced its opinion of the previous 2 years by changing the representation of Congress. If the President is running against Congress, he must be forgeting that half of Congress is controlled by his own party, namely the Senate which has done very little this year. The Senate has barely even attempted to pass a budget the last 2 years.

The GOP Clowns have made their message very clear. To destroy an American President! This poltical and economic "Message Of Madness" was ordered (spewed) by "Mickey Mouse Mitch McConnell." The GOP "Hoodlum's On The Hill" are carrying out their orders like well trained "Zombies" lead by "Bonehead Boehner." They just have said NO to the American Jobs Bill. The GOP Lobbyists have voted NO to the American Health Care Reform Act. The GOP Clowns have said NO to new Financial Regulations for the Wall Street Bankers. The GOP/Tea Beggers voted NO to Social Security. Then the GOP Clowns voted their support for the "Richie Rich Ryan Economic Plan" that applies for the rich only. The Party of NO has said NO WAY to continuation of the Pay Roll Tax. The Tea Beggers have said NO for the cultural and social differences of others. The GOP Clowns have said NO to any tax increase on the very rich, and NO to closing any large Corporate Tax loop holes. The GOP "Zombies" have said that they will never say NO to the "Goofy Grover" Tax Pledge that creates NO Government Revenue to help pay off the National Debt. The GOP Clowns will never say NO for ending the Bush Tax Cuts. The GOP "Hoodlum's On The Hill" have voted NO for job creation, and a real big NO for any continuation of Unemployment Insurance. For the Party of NO! Unemployment Insurance is "Socialism," and the continuation of it is Marxism. Hey! Here is a thought America! Hey! Hey! Ho! Ho! The Party Of NO has got to go!!

Teabaggers and republicans have no real interest in America or Democracy or fiscal responsibility or the budget. They have no plan for the future of America.

Their admitted goal is to get rid of President Obama. That's it.

If the welfare of the country gets in the way of that goal, then so be it.

America now knows this, and will make teabaggers and republicans pay for this in 2012.

Helloooooo........the Congress wanted a full year...REMEMBER??????? Again proving the point that the drama of all this is from the LEFT, and purposely. Somehow the RIGHT needs to figure out how to change the language, and make average Americans understand its all smoke and mirrors. I realize members of Congress are trying to limit the damage of liberal agenda, but at this point maybe the best approach would be to allow a free hand. Step aside and let the Democrats "hang themselves" and give them the rope they need by giving them what they want. The damage to the economy done by their tax and spend would drive unemployment numbers through the roof, and then lets see if a single Democrat still holds a seat, in any House, including the White House in 2012.

Hey, Mruseurhead, try living up to your moniker. The original proposal from the Obama administration was for a full year. The Republican/TP Inc. party was so intransigent about what they wanted in the bill that the Senate leadership came up with the 2 month extension to give them more time to negotiate the one year extension. Mr. Boehner was consulted through out the process, and signaled that there would be no problem with the 2 month extension. When it was passed by the Senate, and sent to the House, that is when the Republican/TP Inc. House members refused to agree to it.

Your short term memory loss may be convenient for you, but no one else is buying your arguments based on it.
