Update on the ad-spending race

With just four days until the Iowa caucuses, here's an update on the ad-spending race in the GOP presidential contest.

The headlines:
-- Rick Perry and Ron Paul have spent the most (both in Iowa and early states)

-- The pro-Romney Super PAC Restore Our Future has spent nearly $3 million in Iowa (and much of that hitting Newt Gingrich in negative ads)

-- The Gingrich campaign has spent less $1 million, and the primary pro-Newt Super PAC Winning our Future has spent just over $250,000 -- far less than the Romney/Restore Our Future and Perry/Make Us Great Again totals.

-- And the pro-Santorum Super PAC Red White, and Blue Fund has spent more than $500,000 benefiting Santorum

Iowa
Perry $4.3m
Paul $2.8m
Restore Our Future (pro-Romney Super PAC) $2.8m
Make Us Great Again (pro-Perry Super PAC) $1.6m
Romney $1.5m
Gingrich $980,000
Red White and Blue Fund (pro-Santorum) $530,000
Citizens for a Working America (pro-Romney) $460,000
Winning Our Future (pro-Gingrich) $263,000
Bachmann $181,000
Santorum $30,000

Total
Perry $5.7m
Paul $4.7m
Restore Our Future $3.7m
Make Us Great Again $3.4m

Red White and Blue Fund $530,000
Citizens for a Working America $460,000
Winning Our Future $263,000

How nice the Republicans have found a way to send more stmulus money to Iowa - spending on negative ads! That's one way to get the right-wing millionaires to spread the wealth!

Gingrich and Perry have blown it--it was politically best for them to insure a win for Ron Paul. That would allow each of them to go to South Carolina with the claim that Romney has only won one primary (NH). If Romney racks up double wins, his momentum will tilt SC his way. Talk about a circular firing squad.

If the GOP candidates played Russian Roulette they'd use a gun with five bullets and one empty chamber instead of the other way around.

It is appalling to me that such huge sums of money are spent on elections and negative campaigns when so many of our citizens are in poverty, have no jobs, are losing their homes!

The best candidates money can buy. There ought to be a limit on what is received and spent by the candidates. No super pacs or anything like that. There should be only a month prior to election allowed for campaigning and candidates should have a single televised debate to get their message to the public. I get so sick and tired of all the BS that these guys spew. Of course the media wouldn't like that because they couldn't go on and on ad naseum to find every iota of dirt to pin on candidates.

I doubt it will happen that way as both parties are in the pockets of the money interests.

I agree to much money is being spent on this. Its a shame that, that much money goes into this process. Tea baggers your the guys with history knowledge or so you think. Did the Founders of are country want this much money involved in the process of electing a President?

I love the way they are saying Dr Paul has spent more than most.

The way I see it people spending for you is your spending also. (the way it was before the SCOTUS got involved)

          Mitts .. 7.16 mil

          Perry .. 5.7

          Paul .. 4.7

Does shed a little different light on the subject doesn't it, since mitts really isn't "Worried" about Iowa? Perry spent most of his before he tanked, and Ron Paul has spread his out mostly targeting the Grinch.

One real funny thing, Mitts has spent the most, gets the most favorable free news coverage, get's softball questions IF he is questioned at all, and is only running second. (If you can believe the polls some show him running a distant second, some show him in a dead heat.)

Let me clue you guys in to something, Ron Paul's private polling is showing him winning in a landslide, I suspect Mitts is showing the same, that's why most of Mitts staff have left Iowa and has moved to NH, he's given up on Iowa. Dr Paul is just beginning to move staff.

It's getting interesting out there ladies and gents.
