NEBRASKA: “Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson survived nearly two decades representing heavily Republican Nebraska by carving a path down the political center,” the AP says. “But faced with navigating that road in an increasingly polarizing climate, Nelson is stepping away -- and swinging the door wide open for the GOP.” The wire service points out that Nelson “was facing a tough campaign against several Republicans who've spent the past several months attacking his support for President Barack Obama's health care overhaul and federal stimulus legislation.”

Yet another democrat learns to be very careful what he or she infers when Obama speaks.
"The difference between 1994 and now is, this time, you've got me."
It was true, of course. 2010 made 1994 look like a democratic cakewalk.
I live in Nebraska. Ben Nelson has been half-Dem, half_repub all his career. Might as well retire, Ben. You weren"t stupid enough, or harmful enough to the poor and middle class. No, you can ride off into the sunset and hopefully take the republican clothes off.
Let's hear it for nominating Bob Kerrey for Democrat candidate for U.S. Senator for Nebraska! Vietnam war vet who lost his leg there, and is a retired U.S. Senator today. BRING HIM BACK!
If the Republicans do win Nelson's Senate seat, it will not be much of a loss for Democrats as Nelson was pretty much in step with Republicans. Nelson is a DINO and makes no bones about it.
Replacing Nelson w/ Bob Kerry would be the ultimate 'turning a sow's ear into a silk purse!!"
Amen to that!!
While Nelson, like Evan Bayh supported Dems in large on many social issues and on the president's appointments, he became a thorn in the side because his vote had to be courted. His vote value is now gone because the GOP filibusters everything.
Prediction: The Republicans will take control of the Senate and will retain control of the House. Obama will more than likely win reelection, however it will be a hollow victory for Democrats. Obama, since he can not run again, will desert his liberal base and will accept compromises with the Republican controlled Congress, much as Bill Clinton did. The only thing Democrats can do is become as obstructive as they claim the Republicans are now.
The economy will start to rebound in the early part of 2013 because a split government will be forced to cooperate with each other. Obama will have nothing to loose and everything to gain, so will go along with most of the conservative programs.
If what you say comes to pass - I hope to God that the Democrats filibuster every freaking thing the Republicans try to pass - unless it benefits the middle class...of course, that would be doubtful the Repugnicans wouold ever do anything to help the middle class or the poor.
I got so angry with Nelson when he oppossed the 'public' option on healthcare - I would have done something stupid if i were able to see him in person. He is a son of a bitch as far as I am concerned - godd riddance!!
