Pro-Gingrich Super PAC: Romney is '2nd most dangerous man in America'

obtained by NBC News

MASON CITY, Iowa – The Strong America Now Super PAC is sending direct mail pieces to Iowans this week in support of Newt Gingrich while attacking Mitt Romney – something the Gingrich campaign has vowed not to tolerate.

"Romney is the second most dangerous man in America and will perpetuate Obama's slide into financial crisis," one of at least two mailers from the Super PAC floating around the state reads. "Don't let Romney backers mislead you!" it continues.

"Newt Gingrich,” that same piece of literature reads, “Has the proven experience eliminating the deficit and making America prosperous."

obtained by NBC News

Another mailer from the Strong America Now Super PAC calls Gingrich "the right choice" and says he is the only candidate that has the track record to reduce the deficit.

Romney, on the other hand, the ad reads, "has refused to sign a pledge to eliminate the deficit by the end of his first term in office… Romney's plan comes nowhere close to eliminating the federal deficit – at any point."

The former House Speaker has been very critical of Romney’s Super PAC, Restore Our Future, as it has been running endless negative television ads and mailing numerous anti-Gingrich campaign pieces.

Last Tuesday in Iowa, Gingrich even called on Romney to publicly demand his Super PACs only run positive ads.

"He can say that he condemns negative ads and I ask that PAC to run only positive ads. It is very simple. Anything short of that is bologna. We ought to understand these are his people, running his ads, doing his dirty work while he pretends to be above it," Gingrich said in Ottumwa, Iowa, on Dec. 20.

The Speaker's campaign would not comment on what seems to clearly be a pro-Gingrich Super PAC that is attacking Romney – one of the Strong America Now Super PAC mailers reads: "Newt Gingrich for president."

The purpose of the Strong America Now Super PAC mailers, according to the FEC website, is to support Gingrich and also "opposes Mitt Romney."

Sounds like typical politics ... if when you run out of brains, just sling mud.

I would have to agree that Newt is dangereous. He would demand that we get the debt in order and that would kill idiots that like tax and spend politics and the liberal party. Ron Paul is almost as bad, as he shows early signs of dementia.

Ahhhh fighting within the GOP. That's exactly what this country needs. Congress is already fighting in DC so the GOP just took the fight on tour.

The ninety nine percent ers have a better chance with Newt than Mitt. Mitt stands for the rich and super rich. Had it not been for the rich and super rich, he would not get the press he been getting. Had it not been for the rich he would not be on TV. Be honest, had it not been for the rich, he would be struggling with the issue of his MittCare health care plan. Mitt is not a candidate you or I should vote for.

Speaking of "not so smart", the super rich did not need Massachusetts' health care reform, nor anything else that Romney supported while Governor.

Neither Gingrich nor Romney (nor anybody else) has or can offer a cogent analysis of the financial crisis and, taking that into account, offer any alternative that would would have guaranteed a better outcome. Avoiding a depression was no small thing. "American exceptionalism" includes both the good and the bad. The current crop of Republican/TP candidates is an example of American exceptionalism. As is Sarah Palin, as is 24% of American's buying into the "birther" nonsense. As are the Kardashians.

I doubt Gingrich had any illusions he would, or intentions of, actually winning the office of President. His campaign is about selling books and increasing his fame, wealth and ego.

Reminds me of another president who had no (or very very little) governing experience. He also wrote books. At least these two know what the office is about.

Hmmm, he must be talking about Bush. I remember when Bush was running for his first term, there was a real concern about his lack of experience, thus he was paired with Cheney for a running mate. That worked out real well! If you need a real laugh, read "Decision Points"! Hilarious!!

The only possible way for either of those yahoo's to take the presidency is if we don't get out the vote for Obama. Gingrich is an out and out liar, obstructionist, and crook. Romney is still trying to figure out what or who he is. The misinformed voter is indeed dangerous person in America, but what scares me even more are the super pacs, and corporations able to put as much money as they like into a campaign. The misinformation that we are going to be subjected to during the coming year will be absolutely overwhelming. And you know, if you saw it on TV it must be true.

Newt may disavow the Super PAC in the press, but it does not change the fact that the ads were run, so their effect has already been felt. The real issue is that Super PACs should not be able to take this type of action. Our current campaign finance system allows a few large organizational contributors to both sway the outcome of an election (for example, by running these types of ads) and also to sway the votes that an elected official casts by influencing his decision by holding reelection campaign dollars over the elected official's head. That is why the current campaign finance system simply does not work. It results in our elected officials focusing only on the needs and desires of the party itself and the few large organizations that contribute to the party or the candidate's campaign, as opposed to focusing on the needs and desires of the majority of Americans - the people the representative is supposed to be representing! However, Congress will not willingly change this system on its own, as this is the very system that continually gets each of the current members elected or reelected, and also guarantees that the Reps and Dems stay in power while effectively excluding any third party from gaining a foothold. This all clearly needs to change. I encourage everyone to check out the American Overhaul Act at www.americanoverhaulact.org, which tackles this and several other systemic government problems with a set of proposed Constitutional amendments focused on six areas of concern: Federal Election Campaign Reform, Congressional Compensation Limits, Elimination of Party Favoritism, Congressional Term Limits, Congressional Size Limits, and Federal Budget-Deficit Reform. And, if you agree with the proposals of the Act, pass it on to your friends, family, and elected representatives so that we may actually make a positive impact on the future of our nation!

What should enrage the general public about all of this is the lack of respect that candidates have for each other and the amount of money they spend to destroy another persons life. I can't respect anyone that stoops to the levels politicians do. Aren't politicians suppose to be leading by example and someone we should be able to look up to? If they are so sneaky and hateful and underhanded in public, what are they like when no one is looking?

Republicans, including Liar Romney and "Moral Pillar" Gingrich, are the real threat to America. Republican policies of wars without costs and letting business "do its thing" caused this current terrible recession, not Obama. The Bank Bailout was Bush not Obama.

Republicans are just out and out liars. Mitt and Newt are morally reprehensible people.

Republicans want to cut or eliminate Medicare and Social Security, hurting the elderly. Here in the richest nation in the world, they would let our poor suffer, homelessness increase, and the middle class disappear. Only the Rich Need Apply!

The bank bailout was passed by a democratic controled congress, and yes, Bush was wrong in signing it, but for you to mention that, and not mention the trillion dollar stimulus, which is completely owned by democrats, is disingenuous at best.

the current economy was created by a democratic controled congres, as it is they who control the budget.

but you are correct, Republicans do want the elderly to die, they also want to poison the water, and the air. They also want more homless, and they love to see people suffer.

They probably are also the ones who spiked the kool-aid you've been drinking.
