Let me get this straight. An unwanted pregnancy due to rape and incest is okay so that the baby gets to live as a reminder to the mother that she was forcibly raped and impregnated. The mother is also expected to keep the child and raise it as though nothing happened. Or give the child up for adoption. The child learns that they are a product of rape. It's also okay for the mother to die on the table when it is obvious that the birth of the child will kill her, and probably the baby as well and leave her husband a widow and other children if she has any motherless.

I wonder if Rick's wife or daughters were victims of rape, say by a black man or illegal alien if she would all of a sudden disappear, be taken to an undisclosed location and return 9 months later childless. My guess would be his position on this issue would not apply to him and his family, only to everyone else. We all know Rick Perry and others like him say one thing and do another.....Oops.

I have read many of the posts on this thread. What I looked for and did not find was a person who was opposed to all abortion and also has claimed to have adopted and raised a rape baby. I could not even find someone who made an abortion exception for the cases of rape or incest who adopted a rape baby. If I missed a post I am sorry.

My position that abortion must sadly remain legal has been strengthened by the posts on this thread.

I for one and glad that Perry met a woman who's life was a result of rape and that she's managing to life a life she feels worthwhile. However, did anyone bother to ask her what her relationship with her birth mother was like? If her mother suffered bouts of depression? If she's in fact, still alive? If's she turned her daughter out of her life once she hit 18 because she was legally obligated to care for her until then? I'd like very much to know the mother's story. Perry can say whatever he believes in, we have that right as Americans (and yet it seems to be slipping away very slowly) but the fact that he changes what he believes in wholeheartedly, every other month, would tend to suggest to me that he's only swaying in favor of public opinion. And agreeing that all abortion should be outlawed is definitely not going to be tolerated by more than half of the America public, male or female. I know plenty of men who agree that a woman shouldn't have a child that's the product of rape, or if their life and health is at risk due to a dangerous condition (of who I've known a few with tubal pregnancies that was causing the mother risk), that she should be allowed to weigh the risks with her doctors and make a decision. I personally don't believe you should have a "birth control" abortion just because you get pregnant as a result of wanted sexual intercourse with your husband/boyfriend/friend with benefits, whoever it is you have sex with. I'm a believer of the fact that if you think you're responsible enough to enter willingly into sexual activity, you're responsible enough to deal with whatever consequences those actions might bring about. I'm a believer of the fact that if you're married, and you're not planning for kids, and if you're on the pill and you get pregnant anyway (this just happened to a friend of mine) guess what? You're having kids sooner than you expected. Just because you didn't want it right then, right there, doesn't mean you can just give it up right away. If you think you're not ready for kids, and it happens by accident, I think you have the moral obligation to carry the child to term, and then you can give them up for adoption to someone who would LOVE to have a child of their own, if they can't medically have kids, etc. I'm personally going to be one of those mothers (and I am on the pill, for more reasons than just not getting pregnant, I need it to regulate my periods as mine are particularly painful, even with the pill, as in, without the pill, a cramp has me curled into the fetal position gasping for breath and crying) who while I'm currently not planning on having a child, if my husband and I get pregnant, we're going to be completely excited and we're going to start having kids sooner than we thought.

AND I'm a complete believer that if you are raped, by a complete stranger or a family friend or by incestuous activity, and a pregnancy results, that you have the RIGHT to terminate that unwanted, unplanned, unforeseen pregnancy. You didn't chose to enter into that sexual activity, it was forced upon you against your will, and I cannot imagine how much emotional scarring it could cause to not only find yourself pregnant in the first place, much less having to carry the child to term and leave it anonymously at a hospital or police station or give it up to Child Services. If you choose to have the baby and keep it, more power to you, I just don't think all rape victims should be forced to carry to term and give birth just because other rape victims have chosen (as was their right) to do so.

The pro-lifers should realize by now that they're being used. Every election, the GOP gives the anti-abortion talk, collects the pro-life votes, and then proceeds to ignore the issue until the next campaign. The reason they do this is obvious; a ban on abortion, if it could be pushed through, would result in a landslide for the Dems in the next election. Like it or not, abortion rights are popular! Even the majority of registered Republicans favor legalized abortion, and the fringe pro-life vote is never going to be big enough to elect anyone.

What is it with the Republicans today? They are extremely radical and are nothing like the Republicans of even 20 years ago. They have become like the Taliban and want to take away our freedoms under the guise of religion. They are obsessed with taking away reproductive rights of women. They want to force public education to teach creationism "Intelligent design" in our public schools. They want to get rid of the Department of education and that will further the decline of American education when compared to the rest of the world since they want to create an serfdom were only the aristocratic people "wealthy" are educated and that the poor uneducated masses will work for peanuts since they want to take away minimum wage as well. They also hold a strong disdain for science and fight any scientific theories if they do not coincide with their agendas. They are against even considering the consequences of being totally reliant upon fossil fuels and are actively trying to prevent the USA from developing renewable energy sources that are green house gas neutral or green house gas free. They want to deregulate our financial markets since they say that the market can regulate its self. Talk about the hen house being watched by the Fox since the Derivatives market actually took a bad situation with the housing bubble and made it a whole lot worse. I can't understand why anyone other than the very wealthy would vote for these Republicans since the majority of the people voting for them are actually voting against their own economic interests.

If you really care about children, then you should be doing everything possible to help those already born who are in need of help - there are a great many of them and they need your attention and caring to be focussed on them. Leave the decisions about unborn fetuses where they belong: under the control of the women whose bodies they occupy.
