Gingrich suggests he wouldn't vote for Paul over Obama

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich suggested he might not vote for Ron Paul as the GOP presidential nominee versus President Obama in 2012.

Gingrich, in an interview Tuesday on CNN, assailed Paul as not serious and unelectable; Gingrich said the Texas congressman must answer for a series of newsletters published by his office that contained racist and anti-Semitic language.

"He's got to come up with some very straight answers to get somebody to take him seriously. Would I be willing to listen to him? Sure. I think the choice of Ron Paul or Barack Obama would be a very bad choice for America," Gingrich aid on CNN's "Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer" when asked if he would vote for Obama or Paul.

When first asked the question, Gingrich flatly responded with a "no," and later called the prospect of a general election matchup between Obama and Paul as presenting a "very hard choice."

"There will come a morning people won’t take him as a serious person," Gingrich said of Paul.

Gingrich has re-emerged Tuesday after the holiday break to take on a more aggressive tone in response to attacks by his GOP rivals. The former speaker's staff maintains that Gingrich is simply responding to attacks, and not violating his pledge to run a positive, attack-free campaign.

But Gingrich accused Paul of "systemic avoidance of reality" in his advertisements, and said that Paul would never win the nomination.

Those tough words toward Paul, who's surged into a top contender spot in Iowa's caucuses, come after a day in which Gingrich and his campaign assailed Mitt Romney as a "Massachusetts moderate."

Gingrich challenged Romney in the interview over the negative tack taken by his campaign toward Gingrich. Romney should be "man enough to own" that style of campaigning, Gingrich said.

If you're going to run a negative campaign...be man enough to own it."

Talk about sour grapes! lol

Poor little Newtie - what kind of cheese do you prefer with your whine?

Kind of ironic that Newt was a major supporter for the Citizens United decision... don't you think?

Wow! I actually agree with something the Grinch said.

Lyn, The odor you smell is the decay that goes along with the expansion of poverty under Obama....

Actually, UAW down there in #2.1, I think the odor is coming from you. You know the old saying - a skunk smells its own hole first.

Paul will not get the nomination if he won every primary; however, by newt's crazy statements, he will push paul and his supporters to go for Mitt; Newt is a brilliant person, good grasp of the real problems; however he sometimes lets his emotions overrule his good sense( in politics and in marriage).

"systematic avoidance of reality" -

When beforehand, as nearly a lone voice, warning how the Iraq war was bound to be an unwarranted waste of human life and money.

When being ignored while telling of the dangers of the Federal Reserve which we now know loaned $7 trillion to banks BEFORE TARP and massively accelerating the devaluation of our money.

Ron Paul tried but failed to avert us from this reality so, in that sense, I agree with Newt Gingrich too.

You folks keep up the good Rep vs. Dem fight though; MSNBC and FOX demands it.

You watch Fox News they say Ron Paul voters are liberals & socialists, you watch MSNBC you think Ron Paul voters are pro-white fascist neo-nazis.

Right and left are really spinning hard on the Ron Paul stuff.

I could only imagine the reaction of the American people if they knew how often the media tries to shape their opinion lol!

The problem with the theory that its the media that is giving me a negative impression of Ron Paul is that its Ron Paul that gives me a negative opinion of him. He is a racist, an isolationist and would rather dismantle the federal government. The question that applies to him is who is he representing? White men who are also isolationists. All of these things can be seen in interviews and in debates.

Even Gingrich can get it right sometimes.

      #1.11 - Wed Dec 28, 2011 4:52 AM EST

Ron Paul is no more racist than Barack Obama. Watch some old clips of Keith Olbermann or Rachel Maddow when Ron Paul is interviewed.

      Isolationist?

If you think other countries are more important than America, then maybe you should move there. Everyone else is sick of paying for stupid pointless wars.

Look up Ron Pauls reaction to profiling during a GOP debate. He gets a little peeved when everybody but him support profiling and he basically says no no no your wrong and profiling is wrong.

Of all those who remarked on the TSA, Ron Paul was the only one with sense enough to see that racial profiling is A.) unfair and B.) counter-productive. By profiling, we are “digging a hole for ourselves,” he said.

“What if [the terrorist] look like Timothy McVeigh? You know, he was a pretty tough criminal,” explained Paul, referencing the white American who orchestrated the Oklahoma City bombing. Implementing a superficial screening process based on xenophobia and hateful loathing ends up eroding all of our rights, explained Paul, because terrorism is not a person — it’s a tactic.

Said Paul, “[Terrorism] isn’t a person. It isn’t a people. So this is a very careless use of words. What about this? Sacrifice liberties because there are terrorists?”

By sacrificing those liberties we end up perpetuating anti-Muslim stereotypes, overlooking other potential threats and exacerbating political and social tensions that alienate us from the world and further isolate American Muslims. Plus, it assumes all Muslims are one shape, size and color.

But, for instance, why should “illegal” Latinos — or people who look like they may be illegal — be the only people we Americans legally profile? It wouldn’t be fair.

I voted for Obama even though i wasn't happy with his foreign policy, or his advisers. I will vote for Ron Paul this next election, even if I have to write him in. Here are my reasons:

      1) The war on drugs must end. It has done nothing but tear families apart and has led to the prison industrial complex. May we also take note that our prisons are filled with non-violent drug offenders that are primarily minorities.

      2) I am strongly anti war, especially wars of Imperialism. We have bombed and or invaded over 60 countries since the end of WW2. This, I believe must end, it is not moral to a decent human being in any way. We have collectively killed more than 1 and a half million Arabs during our latest excursions.

      3) I am against fascism, and this is where we are headed.

I simply dont want people in prison who don't belong there, I am tired of paying the government to murder people who didn't do one thing to me.

Frankly I am tired of having politicians making decisions that we should be making for ourselves.

I want personal responsibility, I want a clean conscience. If Dr. Paul is the only one who will End these wars, really end them, not move troops around in order to start another war, if Dr. Paul says that he will end the Racist war on drugs, If he says he will do away with the Patriot Act, he has my vote.

The only thing I haven't heard him say, something I want to see very much, Is the prosecution of the Bush administration for crimes against humanity, and throw the Obama administration in there too for being an accomplice.

      End Imperialism!

      End the War on drugs!

End your dependence on smooth talking liars!

Humanity STAND UP AND RECLAIM YOUR INDEPENDENCE!

      Peace to all of you.

An excerpt from one of my essays:

"{32}Anyone acquainted with political science and group dynamics will understand hierarchies, the structure, and the interrelation of its parts. When understanding these types of structures, one will quickly find that within a hierarchy, power is only allowed to flow one direction, from the top down to the base. The human body is a hierarchy, the brain being the central command, sending its signals of electrical impulses through a vast and complex nervous system, ultimately igniting a movement of the body. The government too is a hierarchical organization, and its functioning is very similar to the hierarchy of the body. But the big difference when comparing the two structures is the governments inability to hear its parts yelling “we are hurting, we are starving, we are sick of killing!”

You see, when the human body is wounded, there are signals sent to the brain via the nervous system, which then are registered by the brain as pain. This sensation of pain is not particularly enjoyable, which in turn leads the brain experiencing the sensation of pain to seek treatment and hence alleviate the pain and ultimately heal the wound. The brain that enjoys this sensation called pain and doesn’t seek its removal is termed masochistic or psychopathic. Which mind would be fitting to the government? Let the wound that was inflicted to our theoretical body symbolize the events of September 11th 2001.

To me, a brain that is nourished, chemically balanced and in possession of a working frontal lobe, would seek to cure the pain, it would not seek and eventually create more pain. The normal brain would most likely look into any possible causes which inflicted the pain and the wound. It would ask “what happened to cause this so it doesn’t happen again.” Now there is a chance you might be thinking “we did nothing to bring this upon ourselves”, and for the most part this is true and completely valid to ask. But I would reply that our government in concert with vast corporations did in fact bring this situation upon us and later the world. I would ask you to research western relations with the Middle East. I would ask you to find out how many leaders our own C.I.A. has assassinated. I would ask you to research the Taliban and the mujahedeen, both of which were trained and supported for many years by our very own C.I.A. I would ask you to research depleted uranium and Agent Orange. I would ask you to research the overthrow of Iran in 1953. I would ask you to research the sanctions that we placed on Iraq for ten years. I would ask you to research how many people died because of our sanctions. I would ask you to do your own research. I would ask you to be informed about the world in which we live. I would ask you to live by your own conscience, not the conscience that is forced upon you by television, or the radio, or in the newspapers.

If we wish to discover truth, it will not be found in any mainstream media. And here I would suggest to you to research just how many companies own nearly all mainstream media outlets, and research what companies are affiliated with the industrial military complex. If we wish to discover truth, we must study, we must visit our libraries, and we must use the internet where nearly any sort of information is available. We must familiarize ourselves with general science, scientific theories and philosophy, for our world is becoming highly complex and more scientific by the day. If we wish to know truth, if we wish to truly be informed, we must find it on our own. I say let us believe in our intellectual abilities, allow us to sharpen our thought and make it like a freshly ground blade so we are able to cut through the propaganda, the lies and the daily deceptions that are carried out upon us and our minds. I say let us think and let us investigate."

      "lincoln,"

You are living a pipe-dream if you think that Ron Paul is going to change anything without the full agreement and partisanship of Congress.

Paul is nuts for wanting a nation full of drug-heads. Even if hard drugs are legal, more people will commit crimes to get the money for them as their addictions get out of control. The jails still will be full.

Imperialism went out with the British Empire. No war that we have fought was fought for increasing land-holdings and extending full control over nations. Imperialism was a common Communist claim about all our motives. Looks like you have been sucked into their ideals.

And, trying Bush and Obama for war crimes? Really?? Seriously?!? That is just plain ridiculous. If you saw even half of what I have seen with my own eyes, you would very much have agreed that we should have gone into Iraq when we did. Even Bush had no idea how extensive Saddam's programs were when he sent in the troops.

I just wish I could show you even the half of the documents without risking national security. I think you literally would crap your pants if you could see with your own eyes how close Saddam Hussein was to having operational nuclear weapons in 2002. He snowed those international inspectors so well that it is not even funny, but several of our servicemen were exposed to radiation in the tunnels leading to Hussein's underwater bunkers in the Euphrates, where he stored portions of his nuclear material and technology.

And, then, there is the matter of the 550 metric tons of yellowcake uranium that he had at Tuwaitha when we went in--material that we had to place under control of the IAEA when we invaded, and secretly remove from Iraq a few years ago before terrorists got hold of it. That was very real, even though the 'Niger yellowcake' claim was based on false information deliberately sown by Hussein to throw American intelligence services off.

Then again, maybe you wouldn't be bothered by it all, being under the influence of drugs. It is, after all, a fact that most of those who want drugs legalized are those who are users themselves--even if they deny it publicly. :)

        Go Lincoln, Awesome post!!!

As for some of the others.

LMBO do you seriously think we are not already a nation of drug abusers? And you can sin tax something legal to assist in either paying for more idiots in jail or if we were lucky add that money to education, why should cigs and alcohol be the only sin taxed items? You act as if crimes are not already being committed to purchase those items, so to your thinking anything that could be bought by theft should be outlawed. Thats anything that cost money! Make drugs legal tax it, regulate it, and get over it!

So I agree with the Bush/Obama war crimes junk! WTH....get over it folks, we asked for revenge and we asked to be made safe. sacrifices had to be made, but I am saddened to say that even though we have eliminated Osama and Hussein, i fear it will all have been done in vain by the U.S bc this is a world issue not just a U.S issue. The world has to bound itself together and eliminate these threats. And stop expecting the U.S to be the only ones paying for it, we are not that rich folks, only some of us are and every nation has its rich who could assist in a global defense fund. I know radical idea, but interesting theory.

LMBO do you seriously think we are not already a nation of drug abusers?

Yes, many Americans are hooked on drugs. Many do not do it for fear of arrest and criminal records. Make it legal and watch the crime rate soar as more people use. Many Americans have severely addictive personalities. I can pretty much guarantee that legalizing the hard stuff will increase the crime rate nationwide. Feel free to disagree, however.

I, on the other hand, prefer my neighborhoods to be more drug-free than they otherwise would if the hard stuff were legalized and "regulated." The problem is the black markets, which would flourish even more (not to mention the addition of those who would manufacture their own) as people look for ways to escape additional taxation and regulation.

            #1.25 - Thu Dec 29, 2011 3:36 AM EST

Its just seems to be a NEVER ending fight to keep your kids of drugs, keep it off the streets, stop the drug wars, stop the safe haven city theories. Can anyone honestly say that we will win the battle against them anytime soon, when our politicians lie to us about something like border safety. Drug lords killing immigrants who refuse to carry drugs across the border, threatening and killing our border agents, etc. Tell me why Obama says its safe and yet here in Texas we KNOW its not. You either legalize it and profit from it or keep lying to the general public about it being a problem.

Look all I am saying is we need to fix it one way or another. Keeping it illegal does not seem to be helping and de-funding the security force which tries to enforce the laws isn't helping. I think a good short term solution would be a massive border fence but apparently now we have to forgo that to save black bears. So what I see very little of from folks is a real solution to stopping the problem. So give me a better solution than legalizing it and taxing it like crazy!

And I am not really disagreeing, but am having a hard time seeing a better solution. Why buy from a black market who could taint it than buy from the govt' run places who could guarantee a fresh no-additive product keep the price within reason even after tax. Bc nobody will black market it if the free market prices are cheaper and cleaner. But its just a theory and probably wrong but hey bring on some better ones. Please!

LMBO, wait for awhile and the federal govt' will come out with a drug to target addictive personalities. JK

I would be more concerned with prescription drug abuse than anything. I would suggest the film "Generation RX",

              Very informative.

I was raised by a drunk who beat me. I grew up without a brother because of our bogus drug laws, 37 years he spent in prison, and guess what, he come out an animal, thanks for reforming my brother oh benevolent system.

The bottom line is, I firmly believe we can find more just ways of dealing with not only our own citizens but with those around the world.

Isn't that what life is about, learning, progressing, understanding? I understand we all are trying to do what we think is better for our plight.

Many Americans have severely addictive personalities. I can pretty much guarantee that legalizing the hard stuff will increase the crime rate nationwide. Feel free to disagree, however.

What could be the source of America's addictive personality?

Why are nearly 50% of American adults on anti-depression and or anti-psychotics?

Let us not forget that a large portion of addicts are Veterans, who also account for a large portion of America's homeless.

I see that the majority of Americans are hurting, spiritually, mentally, physically, many are alienated, working at jobs they hate for people the don't respect. Many have been molested, abused, they feel worthless and out of touch with their families, with society.

Many feel helpless, are slaves to debt. Many feel trapped and isolated. What is the source of all this pain and disillusionment?

I feel we are completely unhappy, we are depressed as a people, hence we are easily manipulated into hating and killing outside of our boarders. We have lost all compassion for those who are different, those who wish to live differently, those who believe differently.

              Something is wrong.

              I once wrote about this:

{18}For too long have humans been oppressed, deliberately hindered from reaching the heights to which we are naturally bound. For too long have we been ruled by love of power, of greed and of ignorance. For too long have the tyrants of fear had their firm grasp around humanities throat, squeezing off our all access to our true potential. For too long have we been afraid of boogey men which always turn out to be manufactured so we continue our blind obedience to invisible powers. For too long have we said “in four years, things will change”, and when four years have come and gone, things somehow have gotten worse; the blood has continued to spill, the world is still starving, millions are still homeless. “In four years” we say, while the world’s poor get poorer, most living in conditions not even fit for a dog. “In four years we will fix the worlds problems”; this is what we say.

{19}This attitude is easy for one to adopt, I admit, I have held this mind set before, and it is truly comforting. But upon my quest to understanding of myself and the world, I have found the state of humanity to be exponentially worse than I ever assumed. I realized that every four years, things somehow get a little worse. I realized something, somewhere has gone terribly array. Do we control our destinies as a people, as individuals? I know somewhere in our distant past, we relinquished our individual and communal sovereignty to the all powerful wills of the central governments and corporations of the world. Now in the present day, nearly every aspect of our lives is controlled by forces unseen and not our own, and these forces have shown the fruit of their path. This path has enabled us to send our friends and family off to foreign lands to kill, maim, torture, and to be killed; this path has broken up families and communities, both here and abroad; this very path has reduced humanity and all of its potential to a depressed, half awake and self hating machine. An all encompassing machine, that indiscriminately feeds on the hopes, dreams and life of innocence. Whatever or whomever devised the assembling of this vast machine seems to be completely ignorant to where the off switch is. Many call this machine ego, or capitalism, or socialism or even some vast secret conspiracy. I know not exactly what this machine is, but I know what it is not.

{20}I know this machine is not love, for if it were, why would it so easily manufacture hate? I know this machine is not compassion, for if it were, why would billions be starving and millions left homeless? I know this machine is not peace, for if it were, why would it wage endless wars everywhere it goes? I know this machine doesn’t value the family, for if it did, why would it demand both parents work their hands to the bone and leave children to be raised by strangers? I do not know what this machine is, nor how it came to be, but its fruits are very apparent, if one is only willing to see.

{21}This is all I ask of my friends, family, strangers and enemies alike. I ask all of you to look within your hearts, and I tell you, your heart will not lie. Your heart will tell you the truth if you only listen to it; it says, “Love yourself, love your family and love your friends”. I hold the belief that not one person is inherently evil, I truly believe, with all of my being, that no one would want to hate, kill, or torture anyone if they would have known love in their early life. In fact, I haven’t found one person on this on this planet that does not respond positively to love.

              http://lincoln-1979.newsvine.com/_news/2011/12/24/9678203-my-call-to-humanity-essay-by-lincoln-dyer

I know not this is not the way.

Every ounce of me being screams no.

If society is ill, than so am I. Every family thats broken by addiction, imprisonment and death, every bomb that we drop, every child that is made an orphan, every wife that is made a widow, every man who loses his son in war, effects all of us.

We may not want to admit it, but we are all interconnected, and the universe will one day wake us all up to that fundamental, axiomatic fact.

              Peace.

The black market is always with us. See this article on the cigarette black market, cigarettes being legal, regulated and taxed:

              http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/butt_leggers_h1JIXYeedZl012kVLSq3bP

Fact is, it still is cheaper to go black market. It will be the same with legalized drugs. Marijuana use is legal in the Netherlands but they are now finding themselves having to add more regulations. Americans have been abusing the system there so now sales to non-Dutch are more regulated, and I am told that it is becoming or has become prohibited for Americans to smoke pot over there (correct me if I am wrong about that aspect of it since I do not live there and am going by what I hear from those who have been there or who live there).

The treatment for the current situation with the so-called war on drugs? It is not even a real war at all, and that is why it isn't working. We have solutions staring us in the face. A lot of veterans are being forced into early discharge because of budget cuts to the military. We have a lot of unemployed veterans. We have a need in the war on drugs.

I say we put those veterans to work guarding the border with orders to shoot and kill drug runners. Full military strikes on the homes and businesses of drug lords and cartels should be authorized and aggressively pursued. Full-time guards should be placed on the borders to guard against illegal crossings. Anyone crossing without authorization gets nabbed and dragged back over the border. Anyone armed who tries to cross is to be shot on sight.

Mandatory death sentences for drug-dealers should also become part of the solution. Look how much damage to society that they aid people in doing. Cut off the supply and suppliers and more people will have to wean themselves off of drugs. Wipe out the cartels with full military force, including drone strikes, and there will be no active suppliers so long as the pressure is kept up.

As to the depression of the people of this country, they need jobs and they need to go in the sun once in a while. A person who is working feels useful. I used to take antidepressants until I decided to go walking more often to relax and get out in the sun at least three times a week, supplementing with vitamin D3 during winter months. Guess what!? I have been anti-depressant free for well over a year now in spite of severe financial woes I am experiencing at this moment!

I am not so worried about prescription abuse except in the case of narcotics and parents taking their children's Ritalin for the rush. But, these in no case are as bad as it will be if Ron Paul could have his way and got Congress to allow everyone to use the hard stuff. You haven't actually seen or experienced addiction in all its horror if you think legalization is going to be OK for America. I guarantee America will rue the day they legalized the hard stuff--if they are stupid enough to do it. I have lived in some of the biggest crap-holes in the United States and I have seen what drug-related crimes look like as well as the things that drug-heads do to get their fixes when they can't afford their habits anymore.

Get the addicts into treatment, get the dealers off the streets permanently, and decimate the cartel populations. That is the solution that will work is enough real pressure is applied. Include in this mandatory sentencing of several years for any drug-related infractions over three. One strike and you get mandatory counseling and mandatory drug treatment. Two strikes and you get fines in excess of a thousand dollars. Three strikes and you get ten-years hard time. Deal and you die. There should be zero exceptions and no tolerance of drug running. In order for a war to work there must actually be battles. It's time that we made it a real war on drugs if we want to see a major change from the status quo.

I do agree on the part of all life being interconnected, however. We must all work together to better our communities and those around us. My above ideas are a start to truly helping the problem become better. Feel free to disagree, however. It is your right. :)

I am taking time to digest what you have put forth, and we are on the same page on the problem, but not the solution.

I am not an addict, nor am I on any medications. But, I will tell you this, and this is the truth, I have had four close friends, one who was my best friend, RIP PJ, die from Oxycontin overdoses or suicide stemming from depression and or addiction.

PJ was 28, he had 2 kids and he died of an OD.

Another good friend, Don, 31, an Army vet, hung himself on Christmas day 2008. Less than a year later his wife dies of an OD. They had 3 kids.

A childhood friend, Pete, 30, killed himself earlier this year, one shot to his head, he battled depression and drug addiction. He had a daughter.

I have still more friends that are battling addiction, a few others PTSD.

I have been homeless, I know too well what it feels like to shiver on a park bench and eat out of a dumpster.

It is those memories that have instilled in me a sense of empathy for those who suffer, in any way.

If feel drug addiction stems from unhappiness, from the things is described above. I feel we are treating the symptoms and not the causes.

I would not say the answer is prison, which further fragments those involved, family, friends, kids.

I would not say that drug dealers should get the death penalty, What has the death penalty done to stop murder?

I believe this is a moral and spiritual issue, and can only be solved by using means of understanding, of compassion.

As it stands now, prisons are being privatized, they are traded on wall-street, their stocks rise as prison populations rise. If crime is generating so much profit, why would the powers that be ever want to change it? There is way too much money involved for them not to.

I also want to apologize for my comment earlier.

I am deeply sorry for judging you, saying you were angry. I am sorry. I am not normally like that towards people, I had a long day and I believe I took what you said out of context.

              My apologies.

              Be well.

Ron Paul was merely pointing out that states could make them legal or not, it would be our choice! But I love your idea of having veterans guard the border And as for the death sentence, please, do you really think the bleeding heart liberals who do not even like to see children rapist and murderers put to death, will stand for drug dealers to be put to death.

But these are very good discussions on the difference between the people of our nation and just how varied our opinions can be on how to fix things. Varied not wrong!

I too agree with troops on the boarder. That is where they should be if anywhere, they should be here.

I posted this somewhere else, but i find it fitting, specifically Mr. Butler's summary:

Rockefeller once said, "Soon we will generate more profits during a days war than a months peace."

Is it true that occasionally the dollar gets restless here at home and seeks markets that will yield a higher return?

                Ever researched the trans-afghan pipeline?

Ever read Marine Gen. Smedley Butler's "War Is A Racket?"

WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives.

A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of the people. Only a small "inside" group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes.

In the World War a mere handful garnered the profits of the conflict. At least 21,000 new millionaires and billionaires were made in the United States during the World War. That many admitted their huge blood gains in their income tax returns. How many other war millionaires falsified their tax returns no one knows.

How many of these war millionaires shouldered a rifle? How many of them dug a trench? How many of them knew what it meant to go hungry in a rat-infested dug-out? How many of them spent sleepless, frightened nights, ducking shells and shrapnel and machine gun bullets? How many of them parried a bayonet thrust of an enemy? How many of them were wounded or killed in battle?

Out of war nations acquire additional territory, if they are victorious. They just take it. This newly acquired territory promptly is exploited by the few – the selfsame few who wrung dollars out of blood in the war. The general public shoulders the bill.

                And what is this bill?

This bill renders a horrible accounting. Newly placed gravestones. Mangled bodies. Shattered minds. Broken hearts and homes. Economic instability. Depression and all its attendant miseries. Back-breaking taxation for generations and generations.

For a great many years, as a soldier, I had a suspicion that war was a racket; not until I retired to civil life did I fully realize it. Now that I see the international war clouds gathering, as they are today, I must face it and speak out.

It would have been far cheaper (not to say safer) for the average American who pays the bills to stay out of foreign entanglements. For a very few this racket, like bootlegging and other underworld rackets, brings fancy profits, but the cost of operations is always transferred to the people – who do not profit.

That's a part of the bill. So much for the dead – they have paid their part of the war profits. So much for the mentally and physically wounded – they are paying now their share of the war profits. But the others paid, too – they paid with heartbreaks when they tore themselves away from their firesides and their families to don the uniform of Uncle Sam – on which a profit had been made. They paid another part in the training camps where they were regimented and drilled while others took their jobs and their places in the lives of their communities. The paid for it in the trenches where they shot and were shot; where they were hungry for days at a time; where they slept in the mud and the cold and in the rain – with the moans and shrieks of the dying for a horrible lullaby.

Beautiful ideals were painted for our boys who were sent out to die. This was the "war to end all wars." This was the "war to make the world safe for democracy." No one mentioned to them, as they marched away, that their going and their dying would mean huge war profits. No one told these American soldiers that they might be shot down by bullets made by their own brothers here. No one told them that the ships on which they were going to cross might be torpedoed by submarines built with United States patents. They were just told it was to be a "glorious adventure."

To summarize: Three steps must be taken to smash the war racket.

We must take the profit out of war.

We must permit the youth of the land who would bear arms to decide whether or not there should be war.

We must limit our military forces to home defense purposes.

Please Read the whole essay here: http://www.scuttlebuttsmallchow.com/racket.html

I say to hell with war!

                It's not a choice, It's a racket!

In our great history I can think of very few necessary wars but one war in particular gave us our independence and freedom. Most recent wars seem to stem from our( we citizens) loss of control of our govt'. How many times have you read about a new engine that uses..say salt water, and creates little to no waste. How many so called myths are there about the lack of solar power energy being enough to power at car/truck at 70 mph? Where I am going with this is it seems like for decades now we have seen headlines about new inventions and ways they could end war or our dependence on oil and then they seem to disappear. I am not really being a..... ummmm conspiracy theorist here... but just look at our history of awesome inventions happening over a 100 year period and then wam we still hear about them, once, then never again. We fight wars for oil right? Thats the main opinion of most libs and demo and non-party citizens, right? So what gives, what happened to our ingenuity and our need of self-reliance and accountability? We are just as guilty as those politicians who profit from war oil bc we profit as well by continuing to buy it. even if you drive a so called hybrid car, you use plastics everyday, you tires comes from oil made products, our roads are made out of oil/tar/tire based products. We are so wrapped up in getting our cars off oil we forget just how much of our lives are ruled by plastic milk cartons, our kids toys, paints, tennis shoe, etc. We have stopped inventing and instead blame the govt' for feeding our addiction. Either we are the guilty parties for allowing them to continue feeding our war oil addiction or they are guilty ( not a crazy peep here) for hushing up these new inventions. Back when the automobile was first thought up, it blew up, melted, stunk. was noisy and uncomfortable. But this here was an idea they could work with and twist and thus OIL became king, a real king of america. We like to think we have no hierarchy here or kings and emperors, but we are wrong. OIL is king oil is our god ( no offense) Oil is a sole reason for fighting apparently. So what do we do about it? We keep blaming politicians when we needed to be a stronger people and support the inventors, those small goofy men/women tinkering in their garages. Those are the minds that once assisted this country into greatness and we have stopped fighting to help them build factories, factories to build their products, to hire citizens, to raise our GDP, to raise up our confidence that says, "we are still here and we will still fight to call ourselves the best." This Oil war is our fault for allowing our employees(politicians) to continue the I.V drip of oil at any expense. The expense of our self respect, the expense of our children's honor and integrity as future leaders of the nation we leave behind. We can not stop our abuse all at once but we can begin the climb down the ladder by minimizing federal influence and allowing states to be hard-nosed about air pollution and oil spill pollution. States could compete to invent the best technology and manufacture the best. For the time being I could careless about china and her products. I want america cars/truck, toys, clothes, homes, food and I want american politicians who can show just how honorable we REALLY are and if they don't we have every right to boot them out then and there.

Wars have uses but we havent fought a real war in so long that all we know is lies!!! I love my troops and thank those awesome folks of purple heart homes for providing homes to our vets. But bring'em home and take up the battle on their own back-steps in their states and home towns. I am not afraid of an armed marine walking my streets, I am not afraid of an armed naval battle ship protecting my coast, and I love seeing my jets fly overhead. That tells me they are here if I need them! I am more afraid of a govt' that makes our PTSD vets wait a year to get treatment. That disgust me and i bet that if more of our wonderful politicians had PTSD, they would not make any vet wait one second to get treatment.

I like Ron Paul bc he gets us one step closer to re-enabling our states to start cleaning up the mess the federal govt' has made. I do not know if I would vote to legalize drugs, depends on the bill and anything they throw in. But I would vote in heartbeat to allot funds to our state V.A clinics to treat our heroes coming home, Vote for that and vote out undocumented immigrants assistance with my tax money.

But I am apparently a very radical Texan even by other Texans standards!!!

                I feel you!

Are you familiar with the uses of hemp/oils/plastics?

Ford made a entire car from hemp, and it ran on hemp fuel in 1941!

                http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rgDyEO_8cI

hemp bricks are harder than bricks made from concrete:

                http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRtDh6YUt-0&feature=related

In total there are tens of thousands of uses for hemp.

Paper, plastic, clothes even hemp seeds contain absurd amounts of nutritional value.

Here is a great source of information concerning hemp and all of it's uses.

I very much agree with you Lyn. I thinking if Jon Huntsman somehow won the nomination, then it would be an interesting race between two qualified men. But that's not about to happen in the good old Republican party this time. Maybe next time if they experience enough of a wake up call to finally get the message.

Gingrich probably has more governing acumen than Romney. Certainly more than Paul could muster up in the next twenty years. But he also has a bit of a tendency (ok, a lot of a tendency) to sort of lose it from time to time. Not good for the leader of the free world. Romney is a moderate even though he has to pretend otherwise to try to get the nomination. But it doesn't seem to be working, so color him gone.

                      Gingrich? Nope.

                      Paul? Nope.

                      Romney? Nope.

Huntsman? Shoot.... The guys pretty smart but he even finishes "third" in a Wikipedia search... So, Nope.

So I too see a landslide coming. Given the alternatives, that's a good thing.

.... will NOT support Mitt or Gingrich. Myself included

                      Just curious .... why?

Obama is the extreme opposite of Paul on the economy, on the size, role and power of the federal government. There may be no other time in history where there is a bigger dichotomy. Mitt or Gingrich are so much closer to Paul than Obama - it's indisputable.

On foreign policy, Obama has escalated the war in Afghanistan for pure political reasons .... has doubled down and we are losing almost 6 times the monthly average of KIA as under Bush ..... with no pretense of even trying to win!

Obama started a third war / military intervention WITHOUT EVEN BOTHERING TO GO TO CONGRESS OR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

Having the Arab League, the UN, the French or Brits make the call is not the biggest contradiction to Paul's policy ..... going from we should not get involved to the federal government involving us to .... having the world or some world agency involve us?

                      Sheez!

Can you explain why you would not vote for the lesser of 2 evils, instead of conceding to a much greater and total evil.

Is it just sheer ideological and emotional reasons .... like libs?

This is what Obama has in store for all of you!

Specifically, Director Popovkin notes in his report that should Phobos-Grunt’s Neutron spectrometer, Alpha X spectrometer and Ion spectrometer become activated in full power mode, and if coupled with an explosion of over 7 metric tonnes of both the hydrazine and nitrogen tetroxide fuel an EMP blast could occur, and if exploded at a sufficient height (measured in the tens of thousands of meters) would devastate and area over 1,000 kilometers.

As to who would wish to create such catastrophic destruction, and as previously mentioned in this report by General Rodionov, the United States appears to be the main suspect as its economy nears complete implosion and many are now speculating that its President Obama may have no option other than Total World War to contain the growing unrest in his nation.

To whom the Americans would blame for such a catastrophic attack upon their nation the most likely country to be named is Iran, but with that Persian nation only having a defense budget of $10 billion (compared with the United States nearly $800 billion) concerns are growing in the Kremlin that Russia may, indeed, may be these warmongers next target.

To the chaos that would be unleashed upon the United States should an EMP attack occur, experts have warned that 9 out of 10 Americans would be dead within a year with the remainder of them living in a dystopian nightmare where their government could kill them or imprison them at will; plans have been laid by their government to wage war against them; concentration camps have already been built and are being staffed to jail them; and their President and military now have more powers than any communist or fascist dictator could ever dream of having.

9 out of 10 Americans would be dead?

Who would be left to govern? Who would be left to be rounded up? Who would be doing the rounding up? Who would allow a single person to order such an act?

Are you claiming that the president would order such an act?

                            Craziness.

On foreign policy, Obama has escalated the war in Afghanistan for pure political reasons .... has doubled down and we are losing almost 6 times the monthly average of KIA as under Bush ..... with no pretense of even trying to win!

                            ====================

Bob, you have an extremely short memory (or are you just another rethugli-con rewriter of history). george bush took us to war in Afghanistan, a legit war. However, instead of concentratng on the main enemy the doofus decided to wage another war in Iraq and let the Afghan effort fester. BTW, that war was for personal purposes and there is nothing more that I hate than some jacka** thinking he can use the American military for a personal vendetta.

Now Obama has ended our role in Iraq, a place we should NEVER have been in the first place, and is trying to undo the damage caused by bushie's lack of effort there. You are totally full of BS when you say we are suffering 6X the KIA each month. When you are only losing a few a month it doesn't taken much to make it look like things are a lot worse. The only reason the are worse is because bush took his eye on the main target. Kinda reminds one of how bushie also left the economy.

Paul and Romney might measure up well against Obama. Both attract swing voters, and Paul seems to be popular among Independents.

I see Gingrich doing poorly in a general election. No center appeal at all. No swing voters, no moderates.

It is amusing to listen to Paul in a debate... I really get a kick out of him although I'd never vote for him... Especially after reading some of the things he put his name to years ago... After reading some of that crap, it's a wonder he ever was licenced as a doctor... This guy's a nut job...

I'm with Lyn, hoping for a landslide for president Obama... He went into office, facing the worst mess this country has been in since the 20's and he's still cleaning up the crap from the past ten years prior...

Plus, morally, as a man, father and husband, president Obama has the rest beat by a mile... The love coming from him for his wife and children is amazing... NONE of the other candidates come close...

Hey Bob numbers, the casualties usually go up when you actually start fighting the war. Since we largely sat on our asses under Bush there were minimal casualties. Now we fight, and yes, some die. You spew so much misinformation in a day you are starting to loose sight of why some thing are the way they are. Not everyone can get up everyday and eat a bowl of negativity the way you do. You seem to see only what might be wrong around you, and frequently misinterpret that. So you'll have to excuse those of us who have turned off Fox and and all their friends so that we can now see the world in a brighter light. Maybe someday you can let go of your bitterness too. It'd be nice to get on here just once and not see you pissing on everyone's Wheaties when you disagree.

Rio, get yourself a tin hat. You need to save what's left buddy.

Terry Ca doesnt get it...Ron Paul has been married for over 50 years....so he loves his wife and family every bit as much as the Communist Fraud Marxist boy loves his Muslim wife and kids....and then some.

Everyone who voted for Obama did so because THEY must love Communism...sharing the wealth...sharing everything but the work, investment, and sweat that goes into having that "good life'.

Face it...we have at least 2 countries...one that can and will... the other that can't and wont. We are divided and falling no doubt. Those in this country that CAN and WILL...will do so without continuing to carry the extra burden this left half socialist government and Communist loving people have placed on the right half.

Youve heard it before...United We Stand...Divided We Fall. Well we are falling...and some of us will pick up the pieces and forge a new governemtn and attitude...which cannot include SO MUCH socialism to the point we are ruined by governemtn run amuck trying to do it all for the peole that cant or wont.

It is government that cretaed this bad attitude toward the country thru their liberal spending...etc..and their failed quest for a New World Order. We The People...will Clease the Tree of Liberty. Those who CANT or WONT...will be the part that is cleansed along with government.

If not...then we will be taken over by those who will take advantage of such stupidity.

So IF you dont vote for Ron Paul...you vote to continue this corruption brought to us by both parties....and this country simply will not survive.

Ron Paul will win as a Republican...and if not then as an Independent. Electing Ron Paul is the only way to save ourselves from the corruption of this government and stupidity of the left half.

Anyways, there is an UNbiased article posted in the dialy caller but ultimately, Ron Paul addressed these articles in 08 when he ran, on Wolf Blitzer's show actually and Wolf said he had known Ron Paul a long time and believed him, but of coarse, that was in 08, when he didn't have a chance of winning. Now Wolf is howling another tune. Such is the world of the MSM.

That said- is there anything more horrific in those newsletters than on the Reverand(?) Wright's sermons?

Racism is racism- no matter the racist. To subject one's innocent children to that- well, that's another story.

Both of the Obama girls- who seem sweet, unspoiled, and well reared- were subjected to racist rants every Sunday for all of their formative years.

Go on ahead- tear Paul part- but I call them as I see the,-

A racist is a racist. Obama idolaters have no room to point fingers.

Racism is racism. It's all ugly, and has no place in decent society.

I can tell you that, the very first time- the very first- I heard a sermon preaching hate- I would have been out the door.

I would not have stayed for twenty years.

I would, certainly, not have brought my son up in that church.

It's a sign of Obama's judgement that he stayed, and raised his daughters, in a hate-filled church. You choose to dismiss it? Fine.

Obama disavowed Reverend Wright, Paul disavowed the newsletters. Peeps need to move on in their lives. How about this:

Romney said "Corporations are people too". Here's the difference: he is not disavowing it.

First line of our Constitution: "We the People of the United States". Romney reads that as

"We the corporations of the United States".

I don't think our founding fathers were thinking about corporate protections when they wrote that little ditty. Are people not noticing this?

                              @no joe, no bo, nj:

Whites need to understand, and I mean this in the kindest of ways, that just like the KKK still preach hate; there are millions of blacks who despise their former masters. Once a person has been touched by racism, it doesn't simply wash off; so; in the same way David Duke and others treated blacks like they were less than sh!t, some blacks cannot and will never let go of hate spewed from pulpits all across America. No matter what Rev. Wright preaches, no matter what the president believes, racism is alive and well in modern day America. Dr. Paul doesn't need to apologize for having racist views but what he does need to do is admit it and then say it was simply a different time in his life when he felt that way. I would certainly respect him more than if he tries to hide what he felt by now saying he knew nothing about what was coming out of his own camp. Always bear in mind, because there will always be bitterness between black and white Americans; whites will never hold a monopoly on hate nor hate speech!

He should actually be impeached because of the Libyan "kinetic military action". Congress, it seems, is I mobilized by politically correct racism-

As if that were a good excuse.

He could also be impeached for corruption

                                    http://www.politico.com/politico44/2011/12/the-politicized-energy-program-108691.html

Those, by the way, are TAXPAYER dollars-
Borrowed, to be sure, but we do, in fact, have to repay them- But, again, PC rules.

Tell me- when, exactly, does political correctness cross the line to racism?

You mean like the Reverand(?) Wright? Those kind of homophobes and racists?

See, that's why I'm not a liberal. I kind of go along with the whole "content of character" line of thought.

Really have no use for "the government invented AIDS to kill off the African Americans", or "the media is runs by the Jews", or "kill all the gays"-

Or any of that line of thinking.

Obama, now, is another story. He did, in fact, stay in that church for twenty years. Brought his daughters into it- to be filled with that brand of hate.

Tells me all I need to know.

An isolated minority of al qaida linked Libyan citizens are rescued from ex-fellow "terrorist" detainer Ghadafi. Thousands upon thousands of Yemenis protest and crowd four-lane highways as far as the eye can see for a year; 9 were just killed by Saleh's military over Christmas weekend.

We (75% of NATO) fly over 9,000 missions to get rid of Ghadafi; today we allow Saleh to enter the United States for surgery.

Of course he's a greedy swine and will never get the nomination but he can still make million$ from his (yet another) book tour! What a guy!

I find myself in the odd position of agreeing with Newt on this one. Ron Paul's ideas are so looney and contrary to what most people believe that he will never be POTUS. The extremists controlling the Republican party may like him but the general public will find Paul far too extreme for most of us.

What most people "believe" is living in a fantasy world where we can borrow into eternity. We can bring in $2 trillion a year in tax money tops, which does little more than cover our interest only payment on the $15 trillion. "Most People" are totally delusional, can't comprehend simple math and don't understand simple human behavior in foreign affairs. Nobody want's to ask themselves "how would you react under similar circumstances?".

Those people fail to see 80 MILLION people moving into SS/MediCare at $20,000+ each per year. That is $1.6 TRILLION a year just to support people not working anymore. Hello? Anybody home?

Most people are content with a trillion or more a year in corporate bailouts to save legacy lobby corporations from both party's as well as that much or more going to European banks and corporations.

Most people are content throwing $2 trillion a year at defense chasing goat herders around the middle east with no plan, way to measure results or an exit strategy.

Most people think you can solve all your financial problems by taking the corporations who own the politicians. The loopholes are written before the tax laws are passed. They also can't comprehend all the business moving out of the US to China for a better ROI. They can't comprehend the FED is assisting all this move and don't understand the global bankers new "Cash Cow' is China.

You are right........ most people think Ron Paul is too extreme. They want to wait until the creditors shut us off from borrowing and the US currency has crashed while the house of cards comes tumbling down. Then his ideas will become "quite rational" but they are content kicking the can down the road until it all collapses.

Just how much rope do you think these creditors are going to give the US? We are never going to pay off $15 trillion in debt so at what point does the interest only payment become too much to cough up? When you are struggling to pay an interest only payment you are walking on the edge of the cliff.

Put your hands back over your ears and keep saying la la la la la la la la la

Ron Paul's only shot at making it to the gen election is to break from the GOP and run indy. Even then, he probably won't draw more than 9 or10% of the vote. At least he can say that he made it to November.

Paul's views simply aren't outside of the mainstream. Maybe the Rush-Hannity mainstream, maybe the Beltway mainstream, but not the American mainstream.

Outsider, Have you actually just listened to what Ron Paul says? Have you read any of the Constitution lately... or ever? Are you pro-war? Are you for letting a corporation of crooks known as the FED run our economy for their personal profit making machine? Are you happy being considered a "threat" to your own country because you disagree with the federal government on things?

You sound like someone who picks a candidate by watching a talent contest on TV with the sound off. The prettiest person wins. We are not listening to "the way" someone speaks but "what they say". Eloquence has nothing to do with sincerity and a firm understanding of how change has to come about.

Newt... same moron who said again and again during the debates that "any one of the Republican candidates up here would be better than Obama."

Newt's backtracking once again as it now serves him better to diss Ron Paul, so it no longer matters what he did or said in the past... typical.

                                          @no joe, no bo, nj

You just don't get it do you? I think the American people were shocked to learn that blacks also preach hate. It has been a part of being black in America since the days of Nat Turner! I grew up with hate speech and only someone bigger than me could help to change my thinking. There will always be hate groups on both sides because whites were arrogant enough to believe they had the right to displace an entire race of human beings and turn them into slaves of labor. WORK-MULES!

We have every right to hate whites and some teachers and preachers will never let go of the philosophy of; the only "good white people are dead white people!" Isn't that the same message that whites preach? You are racist in my mind because you do not call for whites to stop preaching hate! You do not call for the KKK to be disbanded nor to stop their message of hate but it bothers you that Obama is educated in both societies. He went to your white universities and earned your degrees BUT, no one can argue that he didn't have the right to learn all he could about whites and what they did to us as a people. In the dark corners of life, in the back alleys of despair where no white faces appear and where no white ears can hear, we are taught to know all there is to know about what was done to us and how we ended up here. Not all forms of knowledge or wisdom can be found in a book. The storyline for the movie, "Roots", was first handed down through my generations, from the lips of my own very dear Mum!

It is good for the soul to know the truth. Within the pages of your own bible, you will find these words; "Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free!" He had every right to listen but that doesn't mean that he is a racist unless he puts into practice those ideologues. I learned the same message but it did not cause me to go out and kill a white person; instead, it taught me to understand what it is that YOU believe is the truth! I am free because I grew up with the ideals of the Black Muslims at a time when the Honorable One, (Malcolm X), still walked among us. When Malcolm returned from Mecca, he had learned that all men are brothers and all sisters are equals AND ours to love and protect, (white females too), and so with some effort we learned to let go of a past already done; but blacks have the "right" to hate those that enslaved them against their will. "Put down your weapon of hate and I will lock mine in the closet! We shall sit upon the porch and smile; and speak of life as a blessing, we shall study war no more!"

Some would be very upset to know that I have shared this knowledge with you; but, you need to understand and your understanding is blocked! If you wish to attack another's morals or ethics; know that yours also shine through,...lily white! As salamu alaykum: "Peace; be unto you!" And, Yah-Tah-Hey, spoken among my Shawnee/Navajo side, "Greetings and peace!"

                                            America Needs Ron Paul.

Ron Paul has had consistent policy positions from the start. The other candidates simply say what the voters want to hear. Ron Paul warned us about the housing bubble, the debt crisis, the collapse of the US dollar, the high employment and recessions; basically, the entire collapse of our economy. He is the only candidate who can get us out of our mess.

Ron Paul is a man who defends the constitution, civil liberties, peace and prosperity. Paul has the wisdom, foresight, honesty and integrity to be president.

Mitt Romney does not where he stands on any issue; Michelle Bachmann is just very angry; Rick Perry does not know very much; John Huntsman has worked for Democrats for many years; Rick Santorum is an extremist; and Newt Gingrich is philosophically unanchored, an unstable element, whom as Peggy Noonan, former Reagan speechwriter writes is a “human hand grenade who walks around with his hand on the pin, saying, Watch this!”.

                                            America Needs Ron Paul.

While I agree with Ron Paul on some issues, like debt and housing bubbles, but his ideas are too right-wing radical. I mean, he wants to decentralize education, eliminate the entitlements that have made significant gains in reducing poverty among the elderly, and send this nation back to the 1700s. I mean, he's a nutcase. And I don't think putting the nation on the gold standard will help the economy due to its effect against debtors and the fact that the value of the US dollar will be controlled not by the government but by gold mining companies. Not a good idea. And Ron Paul wants to extend the Bush tax cuts. Great for a taxpayer, not great for the American people as a whole. I mean, then we'd have to make draconian cuts that would destroy the economy and increase unemployment. Plus a nation this size shouldn't have to be constrained by an 18th century government. In case you haven't notice, THE CONSTITUTION IS A SCRAP OF PAPER. The people who wrote it didn't know about housing markets, Wall Street, or even a car, not to mention credit ratings. The government was MEANT TO BE EXPANDED. The constitution WAS MEANT TO BE CHANGED. If we followed the Constitution word for word this nation would never have become the world's most powerful economy. We need a large government to govern a large nation. It's common sense. Ron Paul also wants to deregulate the markets, dooming this nation to another Great Recession. RON PAUL IS INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who won WWII??? Who put a man on the moon??? Who built up the world's largest economy?? Who is gonna make a Comeback??? America with a large government. WE NEED A BIG GOVERNMENT TO HANDLE A BIG NATION. Understand that, for it is the truth. And the truth will set you free.

You "big government" common sense is just what got us into this mess.... and is keeping us there.

We have to decentralize all the spending like education etc because the states are bound by balanced budget agreements and cannot borrow in deficit fashion to support things we cannot afford. Of course most people don't like the idea of only spending what they can raise in taxes when you can build a big fantasy land out of deficit spending every year. You just print up a "wish list" then borrow whatever it takes to make the wish list come true. It is imperative to keep the programs and responsibilities away from the arm of the government that can produce fiat currency and borrow at will for anything they please without asking the people for a vote on such things.

This is to say nothing of the insanity of handing over all the money from 350 million people to 525 people to do with as they please. The states have to literally beg for every dollar. Many states are putting in WAY more than they get back. The 525 also charge the most titanic "administrative charge" just to take all our money, run it around in circles, payoff their lobby's then give us the "chump change" let at the end with a bunch of unfunded mandates tied to them.

All "Big Government" does is breed "Big Corruption". With our current highly centralized government there is too much power and money in one place for a small group to keep secure. A small group of people is easily put into power for a moderate sum of investment and this gives access to trillions for those buying influence. With no term limits or campaign restrictions it is easy to keep the same core group of corrupt people in power for a very long time and predate on the treasury and large funds.

That is why our founders were adamant about a small DECENTRALIZED Federal government with powerful states and communities. It was the defining difference between Europe and America. It is too challenging for the thieves to get their arms around 50 state treasuries and several hundred smaller funds to acquire what they want.

Decentralized is not "SMALL". It is a different style of "BIG" government that is successful instead of doomed. In a deficit run government the people will always empty the treasury, ruin the credit and destroy the currency (sound familiar?). Obama and Bidden are not going to put any more "back together in 4 more years than they did the last 4 years. It is a complete waste of time. Ron Paul WILL put it back together.

Ron Paul is the single largest proponent of individual civil rights specifically of minorities. He is the only one who wants to keep the blacks and hispanics out of prison for drug crimes. More than 67% of the people in prison for drug crimes are black. THAT is racism and that is what Obama could care less about. He supports all that prosecution of "his people" because all the federal agencies profit from it all and keep themselves employed throwing blacks in jail.

You won't even here Obama or another black Congressman even bring that up much less champion it.

Nope, if you read history there were many black people involved with our founding fathers. So Obama supporting the most corrupt white people on the planet is somehow helping us because he is a black man throwing the country under the bus? At this point Obama is all but a member of the Federal Reserve, Oil companies and military contractors. The rich white elites have Obama doing all their bidding.

It was a "democracy' that started and kept slavery alive which killled the Republic. The majority chose to ignore the constitution because if financially benefitted them. Same thing is happening now as we revert back to "mob rule" with 50% not paying any taxes yet borrowing the rest of us into financial slavery for generations to server their self serving agendas.

There are more kinds of slavery, extortion and mob rule than those that surround racism. The race card is the last dying breath of a person who lost all hope of a meaningful response to a discussion. Take it to a fantasy land of hypersensitive, over emotional, unprovable, hypothetical gibberish.

                                              #21.4 - Wed Dec 28, 2011 8:49 AM EST

The problem with states running things like education is that they are bound by a balanced budget amendment, which forces them to balance their budget every year. Granted deficits are to be avoided if possible, balancing a budget during a recession would compromise any sense of stability. I mean, deficits occur naturally when recessions occur, and either raising taxes or cutting spending would hurt an economy undergoing a severe downturn. That is where the federal government comes in. Only the feds can handle broad sectors of public policy like education, and they ought to provide standards and a large flow of funding. And when the states enter a budget crisis, like the one in California, the government can come in and help them. A centralized government may have its problems, but state legislatures aren't as good, as they only focus on their state, and may enact policies that harm the welfare of other states. That is where the feds come in with managing interstate trade and affairs. And the reason why your so-called "50%" aren't paying the income tax is because many have incomes that are lower than the minimum amount required to pay. Plus they pay other taxes like payroll taxes, government fees, and state taxes. While I am beginning to agree that maybe drug use should be legalized to lessen the burden on law enforcement, I still do not favor a decentralized government. States don't necessarily look out for each other; they look out for themselves. The feds can then come in and set rules and standards to benefit all states. And although a centralized government can breed corruption, there are ways to stop that without decentralizing it. There is public-financed campaigns, regulations on campaign funding, reform on lobbying, etc. The answer to our problems is not just cut and take responsibility away from the feds; its to reform our centralized government to make it more efficient. It may be harder to capture 50 state treasuries, but its much more beneficial to reform government rather than decentralize it. And FWY, remember the Renaissance, where Italian city-states lived in absolute independence and warred with one another?? Although that will probably never happen in America, our centralized government has worked for decades (not necessarily including the past 40 years) and should not be tossed out the window just because it hits a snag on the road.

Federal Government is supposed to not be involved with ANY taxation or spending beyond domestic protection. This way they can be the checks and balances on the states stepping out of line because they have no conflicts of interest. There would be no lobby's on the federal level. They would simply work for the people to keep the states in line with their balanced budgets and sticking to the constitution.

What we have now is the Supreme Court spending all its time trying to decide the limitations of federal power. It is a massive conflict of interest because the Supreme Court justices are appointed specifically to uphold anything the federal government wants. What we have now is the Federal Government watching and constraining.........ITSELF! That is why nothing works on a federal level. Everything is quickly moved to deficit spending to support it.

The Federal Government is supposed to manage the currency and Federal Reserve who manages our economy. How do you control the global bankers and your economy when you are debt to them? They literally buy influence over our government by lending us money. Debt is weakness and credit is power. They now have us dancing at the end of a string begging for $1.7 trillion a year. Do you think that credit line comes with no consequences?

All the wealthy lobby's do is back politicians who will give the 50% not paying taxes a bunch of unfunded entitlements on the backs of the taxpayers and the lower class elects crook after crook on behalf of the corporations. Until that stops nothing can possibly change. The people are supposed to get pissed when the Federal Reserve is allowed to crash the economy for its own profits. That is how we pressure the President and Congress to remove them and replace them with a responsible money management system that is FOR THE TAXPAYERS and not some global bankers covering their gambling losses.

The only way "the government" can come "help" a state is to steal the money from other states and make those citizens pay for the irresponsible spending/borrowing of another state. Mismanaging a budget is NOT A natural disaster. You make your bed, you lay in it or it just promotes more irresponsible behavior. Your logic is like me taking your children's college fund and paying for my own because I blew all by kids funds on a big house for myself. States don't "get themselves" into overspending. It is a cold calculated plan of inneficiency and greed to live beyond their means. California is bankrupt because they compensate their state employees through a prehistoric pension system more than they can afford. Your going ask some poor slob working 60 hours a week living in a crummy apartment in Mississippi to support some California state employee on a pension drawing $45K a year for doing nothing because California grossly mismanages its state employee retirement system?

You realize that 525 people dictating laws and managing all the taxes is actually less representation than a ONE PERSON dictatorship running all 2 million people in the United States in 1776? The whole reason for the revolution was about taxation without representation. The federal government has too few people to adequately and fairly represent 300 million people.

Ron Paul in 2012 or just sit back and watch the circus until the creditors cut us off. You will then have a destroyed economy and 50 million people who forgot how to support themselves. Oh and no more borrowing to support that mess.

If left to govern themselves exclusively, some states, maybe even most states; would adopt policies that give whites an upper hand over other nationalities. How would this be fair to ALL citizens? On the other hand, what seems fair to the GOP has nothing to do with people at all, does it? Did you know, that in the 1960's, it was policy and practice to pay a white man $1 more on hourly salaries? Blacks of course were paid a dollar less but so were all females! I grew up in Illinois, it was true there, at that time, but I do not know about all states. Is this how gov't should work? Stay out of the affairs of states and allow them to penalized citizens for being born with a darker complexion? I praise Peanut Butter, that the Federal gov't made it illegal to discriminate in all states that fly the American flag.

Whoa, are you pissed on how the Fed cranked on the brakes during the 70s?? There was HUGE INFLATION. And THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT was supposed to be superior to the states. And didn't our nation handle having a centralized government AND the Federal Reserve for something like 70 years?? THERE IS A WAY WE CAN CUT THE DEBT WITHOUT DRASTICALLY SHRINKING THE GOVERNMENT. The only problem is that there are idiots in office who are keeping things from getting done (i.e. the Tea Party). Libertarianism has no proof of working; why not make up a new country and test it?? Decentralized government had its chance in the 1780s. It didn't work, see the Articles of Confederation. All Ron Paul is gonna do is cut and deregulate. And that is gonna destroy this nation.

These lobby owned candidates have become nothing more than marketing managers for the Federal Reserve, Oil companies, Military contractors, Fannie/Freddie, Goldman Sachs etc etc. Heck, Obama let the Federal Reserve shove $16 TRILLION out their backdoor between 2009 and 2010 to European financial investors. That is $700,000 per family in America. Obama agreed with the Federal Reserve and felt it a much better investment of $16 TRILLION dollars to go to European investors who lost their arses gambling in the derivatives market. The American families can “eat cake”.

The only reason we know it happened was because Ron Paul and Bernie Sanders shoved the audit bill through Congress with Obama kicking and screaming he didn't want it the whole way. He was waving his arms around saying "There is nothing to see behind the curtain". Obama now refuses to comment on it. How the heck do you refuse to comment on your currency producer handing out $16 trillion like Santa Clause to foreign investors while we sit in a depression? He should be dragging the Federal Reserve before the press for a public flogging and start moving the FED powers back to Congress. Instead we have “business as usual” and a President with his head in the sand.

There is no difference in the mainstream party candidates from either party. Ron Paul is the only one with ZERO corporate lobby money in 30 years and sees the Federal Reserve for who they really are......... Financial Terrorists.

You think the wars that W started were cost free? Gimme a break. Barack Obama CANNOT rack up debt without all of Congress knowing about it, so it is not debt from Obama, it is debt also allowed by Congress. Do you understand at all how gov't works? Legislation must be agreed upon by the members of both chambers by a majority vote. The ONLY influence Obama has is to tell Congress what he wants, but he does not simply bypass Congress! What did you think the whole mess about the payroll tax cuts was all about? The Senate passed it by a huge consent, but everybody, including Obama, had to wait and wait for Boehner and the RePups to agree. Obama wanted the people to have this relief but he did not have the power to just make it happen! Stop spewing your lies and go read a bubblegum wrapper or something besides watching Fu*ks News on the TV!

Congress should never be in control of the Fed because the Fed was never meant to be used as a partisan tool. The Fed was kept separate from the rest of the government so one party could not use to it for its own political purposes. Placing an independent or bipartisan committee to observe it could work, but the Fed must not be used by Congress for political gain.

People have watched too much TV, where everyone looks good. I would vote for Medusa if she was consistant with her votes. RP has voted the same way for 30+ years. Yea he should have kept a better eye on what was going out on on his newsleters. I am willing to overlook this the same way the BO fans are willing to overlook his membership in a congregation of a reverend who preached "Goddamn America" and whose wife was just recently proud of this nation. We can call it even. Every candidate surely has a skeleton or 2 in his/her closet. Some whole graveyards. Don't let them distract you from some very important issues facing our country at this point.

The others choose their candidate by which corporate or union lobby they like best...... whether they know it or not. With mainstream party candidates you elect lobby interests and not a politician of the people. They can do nothing while in office but back back the corporations and unions for all the lobby money.

There is not even any "time" for the needs of the people, much less the desire to take action and follow through. If the Federal Reserve and military contractors like you...... you are crook of the highest order.

Look Adams, I'll admit that Ron Paul seems like the ideal candidate, but is he??? I mean, tell me the last time that libertarianism EVER worked. Lemme guess your answer: Never worked because it was never used. Then why use it in America??? Why not open up a new country in Antarctica, make it a libertarian society, and then make your case to Congress in about a year or two??? The problem with trying a new system is that there is no proof that it will work. Now I know that you believe that libertarianism is just what America needs; I feel that way with a combination of liberal and centrist ideas. But why risk dooming the world's largest economy, market, and over 300 million people (and maybe even the world) when you can just create a new country and start from scratch??? I mean, there IS proof that liberalism and centrism and maybe even conservatism have worked or not, but nobody has ever tried (or has been successful at) using libertarian ideas to rule a nation. There. I've made a rebuttal against your argument without criticizing your beliefs and offering a set of facts to defend my argument.

First you have to understand that Ron Paul is a Constitutionalist NOT a Libertarian. He has been a member of both the Libertarian and GOP but does not follow any of their principals beyond the bounds of the Constitution. He has been a very annoying rebel to both party's. If you look at his 30 year voting record it simply mirrors the constitutionality of every bill presented. He simply does not violate the constitution because you quickly regress into the mob or elitist rule you see today. It can be a small mob of corporate "rulers" like the royalty of old times or the new breed of violators who want to vote themselves whatever they please and have others pay for it all. They both use the government as a vehicle of extortion.

The reason a free Republic has only been tried once is because prior to 1776 no country was free. They were all run by bully governments/royalty that stayed in power until they were removed by military takeover or anarchy. That was the only way government was changed. You also needed a high standard of wealth to enter into capitalism or a free Republic. This is why the poorer countries are Fascist or Communist. Your form of government is dictated by the militarism the government needs to protect itself and control the masses. As you can see by our police wearing faceless black Gestapo uniforms and carrying automatic weapons and crowd control devices we are quickly entering into Fascism.

A pure Democracy has never worked. That is why the founders made a "Free Republic" backed by a Constitution. The difference is the Constitution protects the INDIVIDUAL from "the mob" and most of all from the government itself. It is specifically designed to keep the mob and government in check. The constitution is the only defining difference that keeps us free from mob rule and government oppression.

The founders were willing to give 3 American lives for every British lives to have the Constitution. They already had "big government", imperialism, corporations running the government and people thousands of miles away from them dictating everything. Do a little reading of the Constitution. Most people have never read it. Also read the Federalist Papers. All Ron Paul wants is Constitutionalism........ not Libertarianism.

But mainstream politicians have worked out so well for so long, I mean you loved bush sr, right? u loved clinton, right? you loved bush jr, right? I mean nobody can say a bad thing about any of the mainstream typical politicians we elect, right? But oh wait we have nothing but bad to say about a non-mainstream radical idealist who seems to go against all of bush, clintons, bush and obamas ideals, correct? Is that what I am reading here, is that bc we have done so well in the past 50 years that we should just keep on doing it, or do you feel it is actually time for some radical changes in how our govt' functions? Remember folks when they wrote the constitution it was considered radical for its time and now it is the most coveted form of govt'!!! Those crazy founders, what were they thinking not going with the main stream and electing a king, emperor or sovereign ruler? Guess they were morons too!!!

Freshiee, America is destroying itself!! And it is because we got away from what worked so we could police the world and butt into peoples business. I am not harping at you, promise, I just do not, historically speaking, see how we have improved ourselves by simply going with the flow of typical politicians.

Obama is a typical politician the best thing he has going for him is he is black and that makes me happy so maybe we can avoid continuing to be seen as a racist nation. I could care less about most peoples skin color, but SOOOO many still care what color your skin is and its about time we started seeing past that as a PLANET!!! I care about how his rules affect people, how he allows us to be seen in the world, (weak, strong), Conservative or Liberal with our money, etc. And I am not happy that most nations still see us as being on a spending spree way past our credit card limit. Its hurts us and the image we want people to see, that we do care about others and want to help as much as we can, and do in fact help as individuals. but as a federal govt' we are playing rich without a dime to our name.

I'll agree with you that America is destroying itself, but just because we are in a mess doesn't mean we have adopt something totally radical (a.k.a. Ron Paul). There is a simple way to solve the damn problem. Ron Paul may get things done, but you'd have to elect a whole bunch of Tea Party idiots. And since when has cutting spending and laying off hundreds of thousands of people will help the economy??? Didn't work with Hoover, won't work now. THERE IS A WAY to save our nation; cut spending, raise taxes, reform entitlements, a new paid for stimulus. That is how we can save our economy. And frankly, I don't care whether you think taxes are too high. That is what the GOP constantly feeds you. WE NEED REVENUES to help cut the deficit because there isn't enough money in the budget to cut to actually eliminate the deficit and pay down the debt.

                                                      1. Deficit Reduction Package over 12 years:

                                                      • Cut defense by $800 billion. Prioritize spending to match the investments made by the Chinese, install cyber-defense system to defend American projects and info. Close 74 bases (mostly in Europe and US).
                                                      • $1.2 trillion in savings from entitlement reform: increase cap on payroll tax cut to $250,000 or $500,000; remove waste; raise retirement age to 67, and make them SOLVENT.
                                                      • Remove Bush tax cuts except $1.2 trillion for middle/lower class earners= $3.2-3.6 trillion savings.
                                                      • Gradually increase taxes on the highest income bracket to 45.4% from 39.6% after repeal of Bush tax cuts=$900 billion
                                                      • Reform tax code, eliminate loopholes and most tax expenditures.
                                                      • Lower corporate tax rate to competitive 17.5% BUT no loopholes and ALL corporations pay 17.5%. NO TAX REFUNDS for corporations.
                                                      • Eliminate $100 billion in subsidies for oil/gas, ethanol, and farms. Use $60 billion for deficit and the rest for incentives in clean energy.
                                                      • Reform government departments, agencies. Place Dept. of Homeland Security under Defense Department.

                                                      • $60 billion in infrastructure bank.

                                                      • Help housing market by speeding up foreclosure time, destroying old houses for new projects, writing off underwater mortgages, and having the feds and state and local govts buy houses and teaming up with private sector to rent out homes and split profits until market fully recovers (nice revenue stream; less foreclosures; win-win).
                                                      • Reinstate Glass-Steagall Act.

                                                      • New regulation: all companies must increase their employees salaries at least once every two to five years and must adjust those pay increases for inflation (allows middle and lower class income to increase steadily).

                                                      3. Reform Government.

                                                      • Ban any lobbyists from Capitol Hill.
                                                      • NO VACATIONS OR PAY when deadlock is in government.
                                                      • Congress can no longer vote to increase their own pay. That occurs automatically when national standard of living rises and when the government doesn't have a deficit.

You must be a comedian freashiee.... You actually see a "mainstream" party candidate from either party championing this agenda above?

No matter what you try to put through this system the Federal Reserve, Oil companies and military contractors will submarine all efforts. You can't have global bankers holding your credit line, economy and currency hostage. They will just keep flooding the market with currency, changing interest rates, increasing the price of oil/gas, starting more unfunded wars. These people also control all the "EPA" crap they pass to move us further into middle east oil dependancy. Your entire plan is doomed if you cannot remove these three "financial terrorist groups" from the government and both mainstream candidates are OWNED through and through by these people. Neither party is even causally mentioning this much less has a plan. RON PAUL does have a plan and talks about it all the time.

You also have to address 80 million going onto SS/MediCare at close to $2 trillion a year. You can't "reform" those numbers away and there is no place to remove $1.2 trillion from those programs without making them literally ineffective which just shifts the burden onto another spreadsheet. You could cut off 45 million from food stamps, shut down $5000 PELL grants, minority education funding, funding bankrupt private pension systems, shutting down all federal pension systems for a 401K with 2% match vested in 6 years like the rest of us. The thing is the "deficit whores" are not going to let you pass this stuff. Because the federal government has them addicted to borrowing for everything they will simply elect crooks who will keep borrowing. You can't let people who don't pay taxes vote...... it is that simple.

You also fail to understand the wealthy have many options. No country on the planet is taxing them as much as the US. All the manufacturing, banking and everything else is leaving this country like cheetahs at a salad bar. Now you want to increase the taxation burden? This is as insane as your bank charging you to have a checking account thinking you can't just move over to another back with a better deal. The wealth is not bound to the US and many countries are giving much better returns on investment. We have to "compete" for wealth and can't "exploit" it simply because it looks tempting to extort money from them.

It is simply about cutting $2 trillion from the budget. Forget any tax increases. They will just kill what is left of the middle class and move them to "none tax paying" lower class citizens and chase the wealth out of the country. You are simply not going to tax one person any more because we are all sick of all these lobby and special interest group agendas running the finances. Their share simply gets cut and that includes a TON of defense.

Then what after the 4% increase? How about 8%, 16%? An 8% just makes twice as much sense as 4% etc. All that would quickly be left is a Socialist government and a bunch of people looking for handouts. No more host for the federal parasites.

                                                        #25.9 - Thu Dec 29, 2011 8:54 PM EST

Oh....and without a balanced budget agreement your Federal Government would simply add it all right back into the spending tucked neatly into 3000 page bills "you have to pass to find out what is in them".

Without a balanced budget agreement with absolutely ZERO Cogressional overrides and a complete hiring and EVERY type of expansion of spending by the Federal Government your wish list is useless.

The Federal Governments true function is to borrow money and sell that money to the highest bidding lobby or special interest group. Without that ability and business there is nothing the Federal government can do the states cant do better and WAY cheaper.

Federalism is a complete scam on the American taxpayers. They will never enact the Federal freezes or a true balanced budget agreement. The spending and taxation simply have to be removed form them and returned to the states.

                                                          #25.10 - Fri Dec 30, 2011 8:30 AM EST

First of all, I never said that I would cut off funding for foods stamps or federal pensions. And I am trying to find $1.2 trillion in SAVINGS from entitlements OVER 12 years; that is $100 billion every year. I think the entitlements can handle that. And I want to CUT taxes for corporations, but make it so they pay THAT FLAT TAX. I want to encourage growth in our tax code, and I will use BIPARTISAN measures to both encourage a pro-growth and revenue-positive tax code. If need be, I could just put the tax rate for ALL people at Clinton levels, with fewer tax expenditures. Or I could keep the tax rates as is, but make everyone pay that amount with fewer deductions and loopholes. And the 4% surtax is FOR ONE YEAR. It is only to fund the jobs bill that I am proposing.

As for the balanced budget amendment, it sounds great and all, but it is designed for smaller governments, not the central entity. Every state except Vermont has a balanced budget amendment, but that doesn't mean the feds have to. Many states have a sales tax, but that doesn't mean the feds should. The federal government is the lender of the last resort. You cannot balance a budget during a recession, or the economy would tank even more. Nor can you do that in wartime, because that would lead to defeat. The federal government's true function is to serve the NATION, and the PEOPLE. The reason why that isn't happening is because of the special interests in Washington. WE HAVE TO GET THEM OUT. But we also have to find ways at softening the rough edges of democracy. The states can't fund education all by their own; that is why the feds are helping them. Neither can they fund entitlements on their own; that is why the feds help them. Federalism has worked for over 200 years; the reason why it is in trouble is because of special interests, not only in Washington and not only from corporations and unions BUT FROM EVERYONE. We need to find ways to get special interests out of the government or we are all screwed. And I will tell you this one more time: States' rights and decentralized government had their chance in the 1780s. IT DID NOT WORK, see the Articles of Confederation. The Confederacy was a loose federation, and it got destroyed by the centralized Union government. States act for their own benefits, while the feds act (or should act) for the benefit of the NATION. History has told us that only centralized governments can be effective: Italy was weak when divided into several autonomous city-states, but stronger once united. The same thing for Germany, Japan, China, and the US. You want to have a decentralized government?? Fine, go back to pre-Constitution United States and have fun over there. America is too big to be run by the states; the feds are the only ones who can serve the people as a whole.

I wish a balanced budget amendment would be plausible, and maybe it could with certain exceptions, but the business cycle states that budgets don't have to be balanced year to year, but in the long term. When the economy grows, the budget should have a surplus; when it contracts, the budget has a deficit. Nations can control their budgets, but they cannot pinpoint exactly when and where the next recession will come. All we can do is prepare for it and learn from our mistakes. Libertarianism has never been implemented, and we shouldn't risk the welfare of millions of Americans and the global economy just to see if an ideology works. We already did it with democracy, and then with progressivism. Both need to be changed over time, but they have done a great service to this nation. And libertarianism is too untested to be used now. Form a nation in Antarctica with libertarianism and come back and plead your case to America in a decade or two. But until then, try and reform the federal government how it is now than destroying it altogether along with this nation.

And Adam, stop drinking the Ron Paul kool-aid. I know Obama isn't perfect: I'd have to make a real hard decision whether to vote for him or Huntsman. I disagree with a lot of what he has done; but he DID help us out of this recession; he DID instill hope in America, he IS helping the country (look at the past 22 months of growth in the private sector); and he is OUR ONLY HOPE. The Tea Party adores the Constitution but they don't know how to run a country. The Constitution is meant to be changed over time, and we must have a flexible interpretation of it: loose enough to adjust to modern demands but strict enough to maintain a sense of order and democracy in our fair nation. Ron Paul is gonna destroy this economy, with his gold standard (which makes a stable currency but punishes debtors and puts a currency's value in control of gold mining companies instead of the government), and his deregulation, which will destroy the welfare of our citizens and lead to an economy collapse from which there might be no recovery.
