Gingrich campaign directly hits Romney

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich speaks to supporters on Friday in Columbia, South Carolina.

DES MOINES, Iowa – It appears Newt Gingrich isn’t playing nice anymore.

The Gingrich campaign is out with its first opposition email directly hitting none other than GOP rival Mitt Romney -- a move that signals a departure from the positive-only campaign Gingrich himself promised to run.

“Can we trust a Massachusetts Moderate to enact a conservative agenda?," Gingrich Communications Director Joe DeSantis writes in the email sent out Monday evening. "Our campaign might have plenty of things to say about that, but the best response certainly comes from Mitt Romney himself: 'I think people recognize that I am not a partisan Republican. That I'm someone who is moderate, and that my views are progressive.'"

The email, labeled “FACT SHEET: MITT THE MASSACHUSETTS MODERATE,” makes fun of Romney’s new television ad running in Iowa during which the former Massachusetts Governor portrays himself as a "conservative businessman.” It quotes what people have said about Romney and a few things Romney has said in the past.

Ironically, the former House Speaker is currently running a TV ad in Iowa himself, during which he says: “Others seem to be more focused on attacks, rather than moving the country forward. That's up to them.”

After Newt-Gate, (Newt's denial of having taken money from Freddie and Fannie), I honestly cannot understand why anyone would support Newt or Romey! In Romney-Gate, we learned that he is all about money no matter the cost to the unemployment rolls; nice contribution Mitt, and sending our jobs over seas for his own profit. Wonder if Satan is available for a run at the presidency? Everyone already knows where Satan is coming from so he can at least be trusted to be a heathenous slug!

JC - don't you remember? We already had Satan - he took us into an unnecessary war so his friends could get rich. Never mind the 150,000 dead civilians, or thousands of US soldiers. I could smell nothing but sulfur the entire 8 years of his murdering, lying time in office.

For the love of MIKE! What is the GOP doing? I mean really! They need to keep their minds on track...as in getting the votes necessary to get on the ticket in every state....not jabbing each other and pointing out everyone else's faults. They are all acting like clowns....and not giving the voters anyone they can believe in or vote for. Why don't they just give up now and hand Obama his second term? I mean, really, get it together and stay on track....no one wants more finger pointing (like our current finger pointer in chief is so good at). Dear GOP candidates, GROW UP! Stop looking so incompetent. America needs a strong leader to get us out of the Obama slump!

Gingrich's ad really points out why Romney should be the nominee. Most people are moderate, not strictly liberal or strictly conservative. A moderate has the best chance to be elected because most people want someone to be president who does not have radical views at either end of the spectrum. I voted for Obama because the thought of Palin being vice-president to an elderly (sometimes appearing to be doddering) president, was unacceptable. If Romney is the nominee, I will vote for him.

The economy is steadily gaining steam because we know for sure this will be a narrow race, but everyone in there mama toes knows President Obama will get elected for at second term. Thus the continued growth.

The Republican Choice: Newt Lies or Romney Mormon - Dam that is the gates of HELL Choice.

See you in November TeaBaggers/Right wing nut jobs/GOP Stupids.

If the guy can't even get on the ballet in a state because he missed some paperwork, I don't think I want him running our country.

Newt running as a candidate is bad enough, but now I can't get the image of him in a tutu out of my head ;-)

              Thanks, lray801

Romney is spineless. Gingrich is an idiot. Nit despises liberal Massachusetts, yet which state has a lower per capita crime rate, Georgia or MA? Which state has a lower murder rate? Which state has a lower violent crime rate? Which state has a better education system, higher percentage of high school graduates? And Nit, which state has the lower divorce rate?

I glad I'm not a Republican because if I was, given the choices, I'd be skipping the primaries entirely and either staying home or voting for Obama in November 2012.

I expect we'll be hearing a lot about the Obama Republicans similar to the Reagan Democrats.

Now when we see these exact words from Newt the Hoot three months from now when Willard is the GOP nominee - we'll also hear from the inbred right that it's a "liberal media attack" even though it came straight from the Newtster. You gotta love how big that hypocrite pill is that the righties chew on every day.

I am SICK of hearing about Gingrich! Why does the press give him so much attention? He is a flash in the pan and will NEVER get the nomination. Let's hear more about Huntsman!

C'mon, none of these clowns are presidential material. This is nothing but a freak show. The best anyone can come up with for any of them is "At least Ron Paul is consistent". Really? That's the best you can do?

Not one of these candidates are fit to be the most powerful person in the world. A vote for any of them is nothing but your choice of which disaster you want to condemn the world with.

You are so right spartan! The GOP is being asked to select from the lesser of the evils. So true!

To answer your question, "Is that the best you can do?" the answer is yes. That IS the best they can do. This is going to be a blowout.

It is starting to look more and more like the major republican candidates are really quite moderate in their thinking but need to act reactionary to get support within their party. Only the nut job candidates are truly conservative. Choice is to nominate a moderate or a nut job.

This whole conservative campaign is almost too embarassing to watch. But hey, 200 years so far & it's worked for us.

Mitt and Newt will be whatever they think it will take to win with the Base. Right now it is Right wing conservatism, so where do they sign up?

Excuse me....but I fail to see that it is "news" that Mitt, or Newt, or Rick (either Santorum or Perry) will "change their mind" or "Lie" or "say one thing, but do another." These people are desperate to gain the votes of TeaPublican voters, who, by definition, barely read and care only about handing on to their guns, religions, and prejudices. Not news. Business as usual for Republicans. And they claim they ought to be running the country!

Does it really matter as to the extent of the Republicans' in-fighting? Besides showing us, by way of their personalities and histories, that they have no business holding the most important position on the planet, they continue to demonstrate that they hold no ability to even get along with others, including those within their own ranks. To have to sit in on these rant updates on a daily basis should already have driven home the fact that there is nobody on the right that possesses a Presidential gene, much less a realistic chance of becoming the leader of the free world.
