The final stretch with NO clear front runner & a lame filly!

This ought to be good!

Feisty, you need to be more specific. I really have no idea which you are referring to as the lame filly. Probably Bachmann I'm guessing, based on gender. But I don't equate lame with crazy. So then I thought Romney. He is the one I could see calling lame. But in the horse context of lame meaning wounded, you can also go with Gingrich.

Willard kinda reminds me of a filly.

Michelle Bachmann has actually risen in my eyes, after watching her in the debates. I loved how she pointed out the hypocrisy of Newt Romney supporting universal healthcare inthe 90's, and calling it socialism when President Obama signed the Affordable Healthcare Act. Bachmann is crazy, but crazy with integrity. Intelligent too, certainly more so than Palin.

If it was a horse race, Willard would try to run in both directions. Or I guess its better to say when the gate opened, he'd look to see which way the wind was blowing.

Newt might not be there at all, having to register at the last minute for the next race. Too bad too, because if the track is messy, he's got a mudder reputation.

The one thing Mr. phinephancy admires about Michelle Bachmann is the foster child thing. When it comes to children, had we been able, I think we would have at least 6! He loves children and big families. (Eh, he is second generation Irish, what can I say?)

Careful phinep - many around here, lead by Feisty are convinced she took in all those foster children for the money.

Which of course is about as ridiculous a thing to say as possible.

Spanky,

It has nothing to do with her political views (both hubby & I think Bachmann is a looney toon). It is just Mr. phinephancy has a very soft heart when it comes to children and admires anyone who tries to help them. His outlook is that when it comes to a child's welfare, politics flies out the window.

And, why, may I ask, are you trying to cause friction over this? Is this how you get your Christmas ho-ho's?

Don't think I can agree with you there, Amy. Palin is smarter, but she's lazy.

How is advising you about Feisty's position that Bachmann only took in all those kids an attempt to cause friction? I don't think you were around back then.

Besides, that Feisty has railed against Bachmann on that issue time and time again is just a fact. Your comment simply reminded me of Feisty's take.

And what a very sad take. Certainly there is much to be critical of Bachmann for. Taking in all those kids cannot be one of them.

Unless, apparently you are Feisty.

Letting everyone go at noon today. So see you next week phinep.

Merry Christmas.

Barry was just on CNBC with the usual Dem PR BS about the 2% payroll tax cut, how it will “stimulate” (my word, not his, but, that’s what he really meant) the economy and contribute to job growth, blah, blah, blah,……………

What a load of horsesh!t.

Does anyone with a single functioning brain cell (sorry for excluding most lefty liberals) really think that, after a failed, near $1,000,000,000,000.00 Porkulus “stimulus” bill, and a bunch of BS nonsense govt giveaways like Cash for Clunkers, that giving people an extra $20 bucks a week is going to make the failed slow-bama recovery jump to life??

Hey Barry: Keep my $20 bucks and cut your spending by 20% tomorrow, and 20% more the next day. Then I’ll invest in growing the economy.

BTW, for all the FR lefty liberals who are whining about the “Republican’s are destroying the middle class”: Why are all the mall and grocery store parking lots filled to the brim with big gas-guzzling SUV’s and people spending money that goes to “profit” (sorry for using a dirty word) the evil 1%??

Does the 99% spending make the 1% stronger??

Ironic.

Joe,

For your information (not that it'll sink in--but that's a different matter), over the past 2 years I headed up a program involving stimulus funds, and it made a big difference to the economic health of the community. Both individuals and companies made it clear to me that they would have lost their jobs or would have had to lay off people were it not for the stimulus funds. Today all of them (individuals and companies) are still hanging in there, and the community as a whole benefited for the long term because it rebuilt infrastructure. Now, you may say that it was a waste of money, but those folks would disagree with you. And you know what? Most of them are Republicans.

@ phinephancy --

I am one of those people who doesn't think the Bachmanns took in foster children strictly for charitable purposes. I stand by everything I have said about it, and although I can't speak for Feisty, I can say that attempts to intimidate me won't work. Before you make up your mind, you need to review the facts, which no one here can ridicule away.

That being said, happy holidays to everyone from here in Wisconsin, where we have only a dusting of snow on the ground. Maybe that's not evidence of global warming, but when, as projected, it reaches 40 degrees on Christmas, it won't be evidence of cooling, either. It didn't used to be that way, even in my lifetime, no matter what else conservatives try to say.

Love and joy come to all of you ~ ♥

I freely admit to not knowing the circumstances of why the Bachmann's took in foster children. And I was repeating my husband's thoughts. As a said, he is an old softy when it comes to children. I was not, nor he, speaking for or against the Bachmann's in this matter, just for the idea of helping children.

Living at the coast, I have been watching the ocean rise a little more every year and the fear of a big hurricane is real. Man does have an impact on his environment. I stand with the science.

phine

I think the problem many science-oriented conservatives have with the whole global warming thing is that so often the actual science gets often lost in politically-motivated sensational nonsense. I have no doubt humans have an effect on our enviornment, we always have. Personally I get annoyed with the global warming sermons because I have always lived as low-impact as possible, simply 'cause the earth is just too damn phine to trash. Don't need politicians preaching gloom and disaster to make me respect my enviornment, and in turn my fellow man. I think trying to scare people with "global warming," be it true or false, manmade or natural, is the wrong approach to increasing environmental responsibility.

Ok, there's my rant for the day! Glad I got that out, because despite it all life is good, really good!

Merry Christmas to you. B52s in a stocking...that's awesome. Looking forward to a single malt in mine.

Yesterday in the Spirit of Christmas, my dear friend Feisty gave me a wonderful gift … the gift of introspection.

In an exchange, she lovingly reflected …. "Do you ever raise your head out from your trough full of HATE!" She kindly expressed her sincere compassion for me and my fellow conservatives …. "I feel sorry for you & your crew of malcontents ..." and praised our contributions to FR / our hard work ….. "who can't take even an hour off from your insufferable rhetoric."

Feisty shared her concern for my well-being …. "Let him choke on his own petard." …. My health …."Poor little buddy still has NO wood in his pecker!" (How sweet of her, although her obsession with the wood in bob's pecker is curious, probably to the point of bordering on some personality disorder.)

I could go and on about the gems my buddy offered, but the point is …. Her gift …. Introspection.

It occurred to me that maybe, just maybe …. Some things that I may have said about President Obama in the past might have been taken as being a little critical of our dear leader or unkind by some.

Although most of my stuff is about job performance as opposed to ad hominem …. I think I once mentioned that God gave Obama big ears …. Why cannot one of his aides consider that gift and …. Use them as handles to pull his head out of his rear. I once might have inquired in a reply to a statement about how amazing, wonderful, beautiful and fashionable Michelle was …. "why she pulled all her skirts up to her to armpits?" …. But in my defense, it is not like I ever went completely ad hominem and mentioned her reminding some of a Klingon War Bride or anything.

Regardless, I would like to take the opportunity of the season and this venue (because I know Barry and Michelle read it every day) to offer my sincere apologies.

Additionally I would like to thank Barry and Michelle for their gifts to America.

While some may complain about the worst economy since the Great Depression, the long term unemployment, record for most Americans on food stamps, most Americans in history at the poverty level, etc. etc. etc. etc. et. …….I say bah … hug a bug on Feisty.

Obama has given America the greatest gift of all ….. the gift of laughter.

For Obama to suggest that he was the 4th best president in American in history is simply priceless!

Thank you Mr. President. That has to make even the most worried and depressed chuckle.

To Michelle, I want to thank her for her gift to those millions of Americans suffering from her husband's incompetence …. The gift of knowing the White House cares about us … for demonstrating that you guys are just plain simple 99%ers like the rest of us who have 37 Christmas trees wilting in our houses while we vacation in Hawaii

At a time when home equity has had the greatest drop in American history , I'm sure those who lost their jobs and are now losing their homes to foreclosure feel so comforted and reassured by your giant, quarter-ton gingerbread house that is probably rotting in one of the rooms in the house while you guys are away for a half month.

Those fellow families struggling to cloth the kiddos this winter certainly have to feel the Obamas have their best interest at heart and must be so warmed by a replica Bo made of 35 yards of wool ….. the hungry kids receiving the gift of knowing there is a Bo made from 2,000 pieces of licorice.

Special thanks to Michelle for having someone box up Bo and flying the little guy back to DC for the PetSmart photo-op. We will always treasure those pics.

Christmas is for the children. I want to thank Michelle for not only doing this for the children, but the children's future children who will have to pay for the 37 Christmas trees, the 750 replicas of Bo, the quarter-ton gingerbread house on top of so much else.

So Season's Greetings, or as Michelle declared …"Share, Give, Shine."

And special thanks to Feisty …. She is such a true inspiration.

On Michelle Bachmann & foster children...first, erase the image of big-eyed waifs needing a mama to cuddle them. Her license was issued in 1992 and closed in 2000. The maximum number permitted at any given time was 3, and the Bachmanns specifically wanted unwed teen mothers. She was on maternity leave when the license was granted, the last teen left in 1998 - the timing being one that placed 1-3 teenage girls in the house from the time the Bachmann child was born until they started school...the "going rate" was $30.00 per day per "child" (plus food & medical). The longest any of them stayed was under a year. Apparently, more specific details than that are unavailable, not because of privacy, but because the Minnesota Dept of Health does not retain records beyond 7 years. A pretty slick way, IMHO, to have a money-producing live-in babysitter...and a far FAR cry from "raising" 23 "children".

#2.2 - Fri Dec 23, 2011 2:31 PM EST

That's a very interesting thought phinepancy. The GOP is really messed up right now. The establishment republicans are at odds with about half of those calling themselves republican. By all that is obvious, the establishment wants Mitt to run against Obama. The media is also cheering for that to happen. They do it with alterior motives though. If Mitt runs against Obama, Obama will win.

The only one that can win against Obama is a strong conservative. Not an establishment republican. A strong conservative wouldn't have to play dirty tricks to garner votes. All they would have to do is hammer home how ineffective Obama has been... you and I both know that Obama can't run on his record. Mitt will not be allowed to do that. He will be controlled by the establishment republicans who think they know what to do, but have proven time and time again that they do not.

You may think you will cheer if Palin were to somehow go up against Obama, but she will play a game that Obama would be totally unprepared for. She's not an establishment republican and won't be controlled by them.

Unfortunately for the republicans, they will more than likely end up with Mitt... and we will be facing 4 more years of a sluggish economy, zero growth and more government control under Obama's leadership.

Respectfully Brian, I disagree with your assessment of President Obama and what he has accomplished.

That being said, Ms. Palin is to lazy and self absorbed to learn what a good candidate needs to know about. I am not saying she is stupid. Not by any means, but sound bites and character assassination can only go so far.

The GOP is in a period of transition. I think you will be much happier with the field you have in 2016. By then you should have sorted the internal differences out.

  • 5 votes
#2.4 - Fri Dec 23, 2011 3:02 PM EST

To be quite honest with you, I am only a viewer into the GOP. I resigned from that group of political hacks a few years ago. They would mess up a perfectly good... well they would mess it up. First and foremost, I am a conservative. Right now, I don't see a conservative worth his salt running on the GOP ticket. The most conservative in nature among the current candidates is Bachman. Unfortunately she has allowed things to emerge about her that are unappealing towards an election... she won't make it. I was kidding earlier about Palin... she won't run. No matter what the left's opinion about her is, if she had the desire to run and made the committment to do what it takes, she'd stomp Obama. Oh, dear sweet brian, nipping the spiked eggnog a little prematurely wouldn't you say?

Palin? Stomp Obama? LOLOLOLOLOLOL

That is hysterical! Tidings of joy and from your fingers to G-d's eyes/ears/ whatever it would take to get her to run!

It's Dec. 23 and a Happy Festivus to you all! May your "Airing of Grievances" be concise and instructive; may you excel at "Feats of Strength".

Sorry Brian, but I just do not believe enough folks, even of the conservative bent, take Palin seriously. Still, from my world view anyway, I have the opposite problem from you. I have a firm line and anyone to the right of that line I simply cannot support. Pres. Obama was straddling that line, but with his signing of this year's NDAA with its provision allowing indefinite military detention of US citizens, even he has moved well to the right of that line. Oh well, we're still a year off from elections; who knows what will happen between now and then.

Brainb,

I am afraid a true conservative as a candidate cannot be found. I think conservatives are an endangered species in politics. Just as a true liberal is hard to find in elected office. Coming from the bright blue state, I haven't voted for a true liberal since Senator Wellstone.

but I have grown conservative as I have mature. I use to be a radical in my youth.

Good to see you on the thread today.

Northstar... That's the dilemma. No true conservative really wants the job. In many ways I can't blame any of them for not pursuing it. Washington is a mess... It's a shame our freedoms are eroding and it seems nothing can stop it. I suppose I should just resign myself into seeing things collapse around me as the US government absorbs us like a sponge. States rights? Pretty soon, gone with the wind. Individual rights? One day we will all be asking what those were.

That's the thing about Sarah... she doesn't have credibility because everyone knows she won't run... It's OK to make fun of her since she's the one that won't be in the fray.

But as Scarlett O'Hara said "Tomorrow is another day."

And tomorrow is Christmas Eve, Brian. Never give up hope. Miracles do happen, even to conservatives. :o)

"Candidates blanket Iowa"

Poor Iowa! Hold on, Jody, the Republicans will be out of your state, and you will be out of their thoughts, in a few short weeks!

Honestly, what I learned from following the primary debates, is that Republicans are more focused on themselves, then on the people they are supposed to lead. I've never seen a more self-involved bunch of candidates in my life. Contrast them to Obama - who always talks about other people, and not about his own religious beliefs, or ideology. He doesn't claim to be "the most liberal" Democrat, the way the Republicans are fighting over who is the most "conservative." Obama is a President for everybody, not just the ideolgues, or one relgious group, or even the Democrats.

Man Amy that is a LOT of kool aide.

Still got those coals nice and hot I see.

Funny thing about Jody's state is the GOP isn't going anywhere. Very red is Iowa.

And unlike your fine state Amy it does not have a 50-50 split between taxpayers and welfare takers.

Amy,

As I have told Jody of iowa, I am praying for a big blizzard to hit Iowa on Jan2/3. Make those candidates work to turn out the vote on caucus night.

Then on to the primaries in NH ,SC and Florida. It will be a great to finally have a vote count for these clowns.

Everyone here on FR, Mark and Demenico, thanks for this site.

To all who post here, both liberal, conservative and RWNJs: A Very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Seasons Greetings.

Not barbs, just observations - Amy has it bad for Obama. She herself has said she'd walk over hot coals for Obama.

A politician.

Funny thing about them Volts. We know know they really cost $250k to make, AND the average income of a Volt purchaser is $170k per year.

Like I said before phinep - HOH, HO, HO.

Catch you next week.

Spanky, trust you to bite on our Teapublican governor's latest baloney sandwhich. The man is a big fat liar.

For one thing, Maine has the most senior citizens in the country, hence folks with low incomes and high safety net needs. Also, all Mainers pay some taxes: when they go the store, they pay state sales taxes, when they fill up the gas tank, or pay property taxes, if they own a home.

Trust the right-wingers to treat the elderly, sick, and low income folks like obstacles to greater tax cuts for the wealthy. LePage has already cut the estate tax, now he's eyeing the poor to pay for it.

Your gov. writes articles for the Bangor Daily News?

Wow, if that's true, that's cool.

But I suspect he does not, Amy, a fact you are aware of. You did read the actual article, right? A bleak peak into your state's future. In fact the analysis is ME is the new Cali. And that is bad, Amy, real bad.

Amy - I'm just the messenger here. I read the article in your paper. Your state is hosed. Too much welfare and freebies. And in light of your economic situation [not real savings/investment plan] I am sorry for you.

I want everyone to do well. Individuals, states, the country. It always bums me out to see people who don't prosper, who have not saved and invested for retirement, who are left with only entitlements. But choices are what they are. The bed has been made. Tie to lie down and deal with the consequences, as they say.

In 10 years, all the current entitlement programs will be unworkable. The big 'win' in the FICA cut just accelerates the inevitable.

And that is a shame, but economic reality always wins.

As always this is not a personal criticism of you Amy, I just don't know anyone in your situation. I wish it were different, or better, but it is not.

Spanky you are so full of it...may the ghost of Christmas future visit you tonight, and show you yourself, wasting away in a nursing home, dependent on the kindness of a Hispanic woman, a woman who got to work on a public bus, leaving her child at Head Start, and living on a wage that doesn't afford her health insurance, and hopefully, you will realize, none of us gets to heaven, until we all get there, together.

Getting ready to head outside for fun with cherubs. Whatever holiday you celebrate, may it be happy, with all good things flowing to each of you.

To my dear friends, and you know who you are: You have brought much joy to my life, and I have learned so much from all of you. Your ability to see the "glass half full" is a constant reminder of how good life is. To new and old libs alike, thank you for allowing me into your lives.

To the right wingers: I hope you find the joy of the season. It is not all doom and gloom out there, and if you try, oh so very hard, you will find that out.

I do hope that Santa fills your sock with happy things.

Later all!

WALTERS: What's the trait you most deplore in yourself and the trait you most deplore in others?

BARACK OBAMA: Laziness.

WALTERS: You're lazy?

BARACK OBAMA: You know, it's interesting. There is a deep down, underneath all of the work I do, I think there's a laziness in me. I mean, it's probably from growing up in Hawaii. It's sunny outside, sitting on the beach.

** Any person of great intelligence, power and ability always believes they could have done more and see this as laziness. But then you, LEONA wouldn’t understand this.

Of all of the Presidents that have been elected since I was a middle teen (in the 50’s) I would never call any of them lazy and if the called themselves lazy I would disagree.

The same is true for every corporate officer, senior executive I have ever worked for. People of high intellect always believe that they should have, could have done more.

Does this mean we will finally get the Columbia and Harvard transcripts?

If they call out Mitt, they must be about to release the transcripts, right?

LEONA,

Typical talking points … Bo, give me a break. As a business owner I’ll bet you never did any Christmas shopping. Too many other business issues to deal with.

He gave his position several times – don’t you ever watch the news? Oh that’s right you are too busy running your business – that’s why you have NO time to read and post your comments here.

He has played fewer rounds of golf on average than most Presidents and has played 1 round for every 3 that Ike played in his first 3 years. Ike averaged over 2 rounds of golf every week for 8 years.

P.S. Don’t you find it amazing when a person has enough self-confidence to speak freely about his/her strengths and weaknesses? I do.

It is a rare thing indeed.

Spanky,

Our President has released his tax records. The Whitehouse is not asking Mr. Romney to release his transcripts just the same thing the President has released.

What is Mitt waiting for? Once he becomes the nominee he must release them so why not get it over with?

Is he afraid everyone will have too much time to study them and that he is still receiving millions from Bain Capital where he is classified as a Hedge Fund Manager and only pays a 15% tax rate?

How about a brief on how the SCOTUS will rule on the AZ immigration law (AZ-SB-1070) and why.

Well, Dennis, since Candidate Obama waited until March, 2008, to release his tax returns, I'd say Romney has about three or four months to go before releasing his.

A Heinekin (sp) pony keg ought to fit in some kind of box. Or you could put some spray-on glitter in Christmas colors and a bow on top ("There's always time for the bow!"--the ninja wrapping elf from ARTHUR CHRISTMAS). Or go nuts with the ribbons, make him work to find that tap!

Anyway, a Merry Christmas to all! (retiring to a cup of eggnog much improved with cinnamon, nutmeg, and rum)

No Gingrich, you can't change the rules in the middle of the game. If you can't handle this simple a$$ stuff, why are you trying to be Prez?????

Romney will rightfully be the GOP noninee because at least he can do the simple things and has a somewhat decent character (although I myself will be voting for Obama!)

Sometimes the truth just slips out of one's mouth, even a seasoned politician, like Obama, who is touted for his rhetoric in front of the media.

Ooppssss.
