Newt, interrupted (again)

As Newt Gingrich began speaking at a press conference in Des Moines to announce two campaign endorsements, protesters interrupted the Republican presidential candidate.

DES MOINES, Iowa –- Newt Gingrich today picked up two endorsements from top early state officials, but those endorsements were overshadowed as protesters interrupted the press conference inside the Iowa State Capitol.

“Mic check” a protester yelled after the Iowa and New Hampshire House speakers made their endorsements known, and as Gingrich moved to the podium. Protesters chanted: “Put people first. Put people first.” Gingrich security quickly forced them from the room.

“My experience campaigning in Iowa and New Hampshire is you just saw the one-tenth of 1%,” Gingrich said as the protesters were being escorted from the room. “I was at University of Iowa the other day and that same one-tenth of 1%, all noise, no thought tried to drawn out conversations.”

Exactly a week ago while he was in Iowa City giving a speech on brain science, about a dozen or so protesters interrupted Gingrich with another “mic check.”

In the middle of Gingrich's speech here in Des Moines today, another protester -- Ross Grooters -- began heckling the presidential candidate again.

“Mr. Gingrich you really do need to put the people first,” Grooters said as he was escorted out –- but not before Gingrich said he would be happy to have a conversation after the press conference.

In the hallway afterward, Grooters asked Gingrich why he wasn’t following Franklin Roosevelt's roadmap to get out of the Great Depression. “Because he didn't end the Depression, World War II did. That’s why,” Gingrich responded.

“That's a horrible answer, sir, and you know it,” Grooters proclaimed and continued to follow Gingrich outside the state house.

As Gingrich hopped in his SUV to head to New Hampshire, protesters yelled, “See you in New Hampshire, Newt;“ and “We will be everywhere you go.”

“Good,” Gingrich responded as the car door closed.

The real reason Gingrich was in Des Moines today was to receive the official endorsements of Iowa House Speaker Kraig Paulsen and New Hampshire House Speaker Bill O’Brien (who flew to Iowa to endorse together with Paulsen).

“Only one candidate has achieved meaningful change in Washington, and that candidate is Newt Gingrich,” Paulsen said to more than two dozen gathered reporters.

In his opening statement, O’Brien said, "We cannot afford candidates who put electoral convenience or extreme ideology ahead of bringing transformative change."

During a press conference afterward, a reporter asked the New Hampshire speaker to whom he was referring, and O'Brien hit Mitt Romney.

"Gov. Romney, I’m not sure who he is," he answered. "I do know in New Hampshire, he hasn’t reached out to me. He hasn’t accepted multiple invitations to speak to the New Hampshire House of Representatives. I think those are indications, along with a lack of support of our state during Nevada’s attempt to move its caucuses forward, that he’s taken New Hampshire for granted. That’s our concern. I think it’s just a convenience with him, and to some extent he takes convenient positions."

Happy Holidays, Mickey

Well, the pay to go to town meetings worked for Paul Ryan - although some paid and still asked questions he didn't like!

It's just so much fun watching the GOPers get a taste of their own medicine. They could dish it out at democratic town halls but they sure don't like it when the tables are turned.

American, get real, the Obama team does not pre-screen anyone; that was Bush 43 and McCain who didn't allow opposition into their speeches. Guess you missed the speech not long ago where President Obama allowed the Occupiers a chance to speak and listened to what they said.

I'm sure that a highly educated Mr. Gingrich needs to be re-taught American history by the genre "loudmouthus interruptus" otherwise known as protester "Grooters".

World War ll did stop the depression...things had grown worse by benefit of some of President Roosevelt's programs.

Of course...I'm sure Mr. Grooters could clear that up for everyone.

Good job getting the youth vote away from Ron Paul - Ha! All noise? Sounds like the Tea Party to me, well plus guns. Occupy has tremendous support, but you keep believing your own lies Newt. Go Occupy!

And come on, who cares about Iowa anyway. It's not a predictor of anything. Moving on...

Until Newt and the other Republicans learn to engage the OWS protesters

With Christmas a few days away it's a nice idea to recognize some goodwill.

A new national movement is making the news. No not Occupy Wall Street. Quite the contrary, Layaway Angels are popping up from coast to coast. These altruistic folks are walking into large retail stores everywhere and paying off layaway charges for people they don't even know. Christmas is truly the season for giving! It's a safe bet that these Angels are conservatives. Historically, conservatives have been proved to be much more generous in charity than liberals.

The stark contrast between these Angels and the Occupiers couldn't be more glaring. Down at the dwindling Occupier events these "upstanding" citizens still prattle on about how someone else needs to be responsible for their student loans or how someone else should be responsible for the credit card balances, and how they are entitled to a living wage job. It's always me, me, me with the left.

So the layaway angels vs the occupiers just re enforces the notion that conservatives are the compassionate givers and the libs are the takers.

      Merry Christmas to all!

Are you saying all the OWS protesters. That would be impossible, there must be millions in NYC, Los Angeles, Dallas and Atlanta. OWS has shut those cities down and what about all the ports that are closed by OWS. I think we Republicans should give any OWS we see a shower, but then the ones I see on TV are typical moonbats filthy and to messed up to work and looking for handouts. Its hard to enage people when they are constantly trying to puke on you. OWS is a lot like first read a handfull of whiney assed liberals lmao, "popcon" ; )

This piece of draft-dodging crap has no qualms about sending you or your children to die to maintain the standard of living he is accustomed to. To Phin as well -- This is yet another case of "leadership" in which President Obama proves he IS a leader once again. Showing not only the correct temperament for the highest office in the land, but also taking unpopular risks for the general good of our great nation (saving the auto industry, getting bin Laden intelligence instead of just bombing the complex, ending the war in Iraq, etc.). Anyone who remembers Carter's failure to rescue the hostages from Iran, and how his presidency never recovered from it, KNOWS who deserves credit for getting bin Laden -- our president!

Seriously, Chris Christie or any other Teapublican who parrots this squawking point again, and especially John Boehner, is obviously a LIAR.

tony-268769 -- The low-information voters aren't going to vote for President Obama anyway -- no loss there.

But here's the real problem, not one @#$%! right-winger can tell us which "unsatisfactory" GOP/TP candidate would do a better job. Certainly not one @#$%! can argue that Dubya deserved another four years.

BettyLiberty -- "Nuke Gingrich," love it more than GinGrinch and even mine, Snewt! All the Dems have to do is run the 3 AM ad against who ever the GOP/TP candidate is right before election time. If the candidate is Nuke Gingrich, show him sleeping next to the red button.

And enough with the bleating about "rich people"...would you be happy if every single American citizen were poor ???? Would that make you happy ???? There are a few countries on the other side of the planet that could give you that kind of financial equality that seem so important to you. Of course...you wouldn't have "the rich" to blame for any other troubles that might find you.

No Newt. You saw one person. I don't attend protests or rallies. I am just not the kind of person to become actively involved in politics or civic activity. However, IF I were there, I would do the same. To you or any politician who is full of baloney. As good as the press is, sometimes they are just too timid to ask the tough questions, plus they get too much slack from those who are politically active and boisterous. However, you are a self absorbed self appointed important person who has a lousy track record, who picks and chooses whatever facts suits your needs, who seems incapable of ever taking personal responsiblity for your actions, who gets rich off of being in politics or close to those with power and money, and then get off preaching moral values. Take a hike.

Mandatory taser for anyone who interupts a speech. Pepper spray and tasing will give them pause. Add a few well placed whacks to the privates with the batons, and a couple months in jail shared with Bubba, and then lets see how much resolve they have.

Republican's need to remember the old saying ( watch what you wish for you might just get it ). They want deficit reduction, come January 1 2013 they will get $6.2 trillion worth of cuts. $1 trillion dollars they agreed on just to raise the debt. ceiling. The $1.2 trillion in automatic cuts the super committee couldn't agree on ($600 billion in defense cuts and $600 billion in non-discretionary spending cuts ) and the $4 trillion in Bush tax cuts that expire on that same day. That all totals to $6.2 trillion and President Obama doesn't have to do anything but sit back and watch them go in effect. Obama played the Republican's like a real pro and they didn't even see it coming.
