With just over two weeks until the Iowa caucuses, GOP contenders are making the final push for votes. NBC's Mike Viqueira reports.
DES MOINES, Iowa -- Despite not spending much time or resources in the first-in-the-nation caucus state, Mitt Romney won the endorsement Saturday of Iowa’s largest newspaper, The Des Moines Register.
“Sobriety, wisdom and judgment ... those are qualities Mitt Romney said he looks for in a leader. Those are qualities Romney himself has demonstrated in his career in business, public service and government,” the newspaper said in an editorial Saturday night, just 17 days before the caucuses. “Those qualities help the former Massachusetts governor stand out as the most qualified Republican candidate competing in the Iowa caucuses.”
The Register, which was publishig its endorsement in Sunday’s paper, says its goal with a caucus endorsement “is to provide a perspective for Iowans beyond what they read in regular news coverage and see in debates.”
Read the full endorsement in the Des Moines Register
The former Massachusetts governor did not win this endorsement last cycle. Rather, the Register endorsed John McCain. McCain, who lost the Iowa caucuses to Mike Huckabee, went on to be the eventual nominee.
“We did not endorse him [Romney] then [2008 caucus], but this is a different field, and he has matured as a candidate,” the editorial board wrote. “Rebuilding the economy is the nation’s top priority, and Romney makes the best case among the Republicans that he could do that.”
The Register’s editorial board has been endorsing candidates since 1988 – and three of the four Republicans -- Bob Dole, George W. Bush, McCain -- it has endorsed over the past 24 years have gone on to be the Republican nominee. Only one, Bush, was elected president.
Romney is trailing Newt Gingrich in the Hawkeye State, polls suggest.
According to the Dec. 4 NBC News-Marist poll among likely caucus goers in Iowa, Gingrich was polling at 28 percent, and Romney and Ron Paul were tied with 19 percent (after reallocating Herman Cain supporters to their second-choice candidate).
Gingrich won the endorsement of New Hampshire’s largest newspaper, the Union Leader, just three weeks ago.
Romney, who has been criticized for his frequent absence in Iowa, was last in the state Friday but it is not known when he will return here.
The Iowa caucus takes place on Jan. 3, and this endorsement likely will raise expectations for Romney's performance there. But some political watchers were unimpressed.
A caucus veteran in the state told NBC News: "This endorsement could not be more meaningless. There is a reason they [the Register] lost their debate this year: Iowans simply do not care."

It does not matter if the paper is right-winged, or fox news lovers. They chose from a group of Republicans! Just a note, seems like some have missed that point.
If anything, the paper is more to the left, because Romney is more moderate than most Republicans.
My post is ambiguous... They are on the right for choosing Romney, but not the far right because Romney is more moderate.
The Des Moines Register. Their motto is "The most well read newspaper by the right wing cracked teanut "Children of the Corn"
Funny as hell man. High marks for the humor!!!!!
I'm sorry but a newspaper should just report the news. They should not be endorsing anyone. They should remain neutral.
It takes a weak mind to say, "I read that newspaper and since they like this person that is who I am voting for." Unfortunately there are those individuals who are that weak minded.
The newspaper should report the news as matter-of-fact and leave it up to the readers to decide. Reporting news leaning one way or the other is a disservice to its readers.
What is "frequent absence"?
Snort! Oh, MM, Uh, did I fall asleep? What happened? Did I miss something? Oh, Yawn! Sorry. I'm having a hard time staying awake during this riveting GOP vote pandering.
You know what? I'm sure many of you have wondered this too. I, wonder in the midst of all this financial crisis and bashing the President, how much money has thus far been collectively spent on these clowns to see who's big red nose honks the loudest? Seriously, I'd like someone reading this if you might be able shed some light on the sheer weight of the financing for this circus. Of couse much is "hidden" b/c the supreme court said that people-I mean companies have 1st amendment rights too but, there must be some sort of tally out there. I then would like to know how many unemployed people and starving seniors could live off of what was spent so far. Jeez, Sarah Sellout's little Magical Mystery tour must of cost tons. Who? Oh. Well lets justs say someone we haven't heard from anymore since she cashed in and finished marketing herself. That is what most of this is all about. "Thanks for you confidence in me but, I really didn't expect win anyway, just needed to use some gullible dupes to make my riches." Ain't life a bitch? I had a friend state that these current GOP contender were idiots. I pointed out to him that, that wasn't a fair statement , and that they were quite smart, however misguided. They know exactly what they are doing and it ain't because they want to FIX the good old USA. That is what their followers want them to say. They desire power and power is MONEY. Those w/ the clout and guts enough to put themselves out there to run for POTUS get the ultimate prize and you are the perfect little stepping stones to get them there. Problem is, from what I see, too many book deals and jobs for Fox are being given out these days. It's like the almost won losers on Ameircan idol. They marketed themselves and can now get a record deal because someone voted for them.
Hey. Maybe when this is over, Michelle Bachmann can actually get back to work. You know that place with the big dome thing over it that looks like a gigantic Minnesota Grain Silo top in Washington DC? I hear she missed doing much of anything although, I'm not sure what she would have gotten done anyway since her party hasn't managed to MAKE CHANGES IN WASHINGTON and BRING BACK JOBS.
I'm going back to sleep now until I vote for Obama again. This season of Dancing w/ the GOP has looked more like a mix of Real World, mean girls, and American Idol with a healty dose of swamp people.
i would rather live in those worlds than Obama's food stamp world
Proof in point. Thank you, surley teen from the back of the class! Was that said under your breath while slumped in your chair? Perhaps you'd like to give a supportive rebuff in front of the class. Come little Scotty! Be not bashful. Tell us why it's so important for you to vote for just any clown using you as moneybag if you say you already have one.
Please, before you chose who to vote for learn about the religion that Mitt Romney is so loyal to. The heads of his religion have very weird plans to hold secret rituals in the White House.
Go to youtube and search for the following titles:
The True Origins of Mormonism Part 1 (The Book of Mormon)
The True Origins of Mormonism Part 2 (The Masonic Influence)
The True Origins of Mormonism Part 3 (The Occult Connection)
The True Origins of Mormonism Part 4 (The Book Of Abraham)
DNA vs. the Book of Mormon
There are many more but if you watch these 5 you will want to pass them on to anyone else who might vote for Mitt Romney. The cult known as the Mormon church wants to get into the White House.
lol, funniest post ever. Like anyone would ever believe that. Conspiracy theories galore. Similar things were said about Kennedy being Catholic.
You probably don't even believe that man landed on the moon, and that the government made all that up.
What!? You mean the moon landing was true? All these years believing that it was all a conspiracy. My weak mind be damned!
Unfortunately there are many people who believe what they hear and read, mainly out of sheer lazyness or stupidity or both.
Romney??? OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH, I'm excited!!!!! Wait!!!I just found out his father was born in a Morman Colony in Chihuahua, Mexico!!!!
Trump!!! I need your help!!! It's Romney, check out Romney's birth papers!!! Call Hawaii--oops, I meant Michigan. See if they have records of his birth papers. Find out if he's over here with a green card. At least, get on Fox's News and state you don't feel he's a American Citizen. Fox will go with it. Just say you haven't seen his birth papers. Your experienced at this, you are my man.
Ron Paul won another straw poll in Iowa, where is the news on that one?
When he actually can win a race then he will have a chance. Until then, a straw poll is just that....made of straw.
@JP- I guess if another Republican candidate, other than Paul, wins one of these straw polls, they are the sudden front runner, because somehow they are more electable than Ron Paul. Ron Paul has held elected office since 1997, not a bad run for someone declared "unelectable". By your logic, the most electable candidate would be Rick Perry, who has successfully won election to every office he has run for. Let's see how that pans out in the presidential race.
Big city and unions will decide the vote for the rest of us small town hicks. I have been to or worked in just about every state and have been to most of our major cities. Yep just a small town hick that has seen more then most the big city folk that never leave the city. There fun to visit but I can't imagine living in one. They all think there so green but polute like there is no tomorrow. I'll keep my guns my four wheel drive and my 2 acre yard that I have to work my ass off to maintain over all your concrete anyday. And I drove to 90% of these places, flying from NY to La doesn't count as seeing the country. What you libs are trying to destroy is everything in between and most of you city hicks have never seen it. Gary Indiana is so pretty this time of year. I hope like hell I never have to go east of the Missippi as long as I live and I hope like hell you don't travel west of it.
Unions are the devil in sheep's clothing! They serve their own self-interest and line their pockets with dirty money.
If you are a member of the GOP, you would know about dirty. Straight up toxic, is what today's regurgitation party has become.
C'mon, Greg. Were all Americans. Give it a rest.
I visit the midwest and south frequently for business and to visit friends while still living on both coasts. I love the people and the land there and have many friends from both sides of Mississippi. Were actually not all that far apart on our ideals, but decades of corporate money has skewed the lawmaking to benefit only a small percentage of America. Neither party is immune to that, but the so-called conservatives of today actually mouth amazing amounts of disproven BS to support the super rich and corporate interests, while pandering to the insane and limited worldview of social conservatives who see nothing wrong in their blatant contradictions of wanting government out of their lives while injecting it into the intimate details of others.
Greg,
I haven't covered all the territory you have but enough to be able to agree with everything you've said!!!!
Suzy,
eliminate all public unions!!
Make all states "right to work"
rural communities cannot support their own economies, they receive 2-3 dollars for every dollar they pay in taxes. high percentage's are on welfare and food stamps, they over tax county services because they lack money to support their own police, fire departments..... I am tired of rural America using my tax dollars to support their live styles. How about this; communities get what they pay for. If hickvill usa population 500 can't build a hospital, don't get sick. Keep your 4x4 because we ain't paving your roads. No more subsided farm life styles and grazing fees if raising beef is not profitable do something else.
Alright and now I ask how many real news media outlets back this idiot and I mean the ones that were not bribed or payed off.
Hey Ron where are you buddy?
Looks like media whores forgot about the one guy who is winning in this election.......RON PAUL!
There just not paid enough to talk about him.
What a mess.
Ron Paul is winning in this election..???..........Are you OK..??
I have the news on right now. If Ron Paul were winning, I am pretty damned sure it would have made it when they went over today's political news. They mentioned the vote in the Senate, the fact Obama would say no to the XL Energy line, Romney's endorsement, but nada about Ron Paul leading the polls. Someone going from 3rd to 1st is news worthy, even here in Denver.
I'd suggest you read a real math book and get your head out of the George W Bush book of new math.
I grew up in IA, and as far as I'm concerned, an endorsement fro the DM Register is the kiss of death. We used to comment that the paper should be printed on paper the same color as their sports section...pink.
Heard it said the other night on a cable news channel, that the common thought is, that the Iowa Caucus' will lose there significants, depending on which regurg wins there. Never could understand why bumble f&%k Iowa mattered. Rarely has any affect at all on the final election outcome.
Iowa, corn, pigs, and government farm subsidies. Easy to see why the GOP covets that caucus.
NYC rangle, schumer, weeener amounts to pig sh!t!!!
Very eloquent Gary, I am actually pretty conservative and grew up in the midwest.
What is the different of having a financially poor father to a rich father during Vietnam War?
July 66, Romney got sent to France as a Morman Missionary.
July 66, I got sent to Vietnam.
As the world turns.
The Leftist, Liberal, Socialist, Marxist, Democrat, Left wing Kooks foolishly and ignorantly think that THEY ARE in the majority thinking of the American Electorate and that the American Voters next Nov. 6th, 2012 will simply "ignore" B. Hussein Obama's entire FOUR YEAR TERM AS POTUS and just "blame Bush" to re-elect him. Ha!!!
I knew there was a lot of recreational drug use amongst the Leftist, Liberal, Socialist, Marxist, Left Wing, Democrat Kooks, I just didn't know it was so widespread!!! Anyway, all the more wailing they'll be doing when on Election Night 2012, B. Hussein Obama will be on Int'l TV giving his Concession Speech to the new REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT-ELECT. I can't wait and it can't come soon enough.
I'm so tired of this Inexperienced and Unqualified, Socialist/Marxist "Community Organizer" being in the White House and not having a d**ned clue as to what the h*ll he's doing and taking all of his multi-week family vacations b/c he likes to be President, but doesn't like the governing part. What an abject failure the B. Hussein Obama presidency has been. He needs to and will be sent back to Chicago come Election Night 2012.
Sounds like you just about called him everything you can except for what you want to call him. Great Job little Johny. Next time raise your hand before you stand up and go off in a very stereotypical Fox news infused rant. Not everyone here in class wants to hear drunk old angry man in the chair in front of the TV drivel. Oh you forgot Fascist. I think I heard that one too. Wow most world mainline 20th century political parties in one president? Amazing! He must have immense powers. You did leave one party off of the list, though. Republican. Oh well must not have been that important after all. See? All better. Now you can sit down and let little Suzy have a turn, hm?
With voting for the Republican presidential nomination starting in three holiday-shortened weeks, the dynamic for the 2012 election is becoming clear. President Obama is facing both formidable challenges but also significant advantages. The Republican nominee will too. But what promises to be a hard fought, close, general election may shift decisively to the president's advantage depending on whom the Republican Party ultimately chooses as their nominee.
The general election environment poses daunting obstacles for the president. Economic growth is tepid, unemployment high, wages stagnant, deficits unsustainable, and the environment in Washington as toxic as ever. A significant number of voters don't like the direction the country is going, are pessimistic about the future, and rate the president's job performance below the 50% threshold that normally indicates electoral vulnerability.
But the president also has several important points in his favor. Voters like him personally, know he inherited many of our problems, and see him as being on their side and more willing to make reasonable compromises than his congressional opponents. The Electoral College has a slight Democrat tilt, and most of all, the lack of a primary opponent allows him to focus like a laser on the key independent, moderate voters who will decide the election while his future opponent must spend the next several months catering to the party faithful.
Under these circumstances, 2004 offers a template for a successful Obama re-election. His campaign must make the race a choice between two individuals not a referendum on the incumbent. He must energize the party base while disqualifying his opponent as an acceptable alternative for swing voters.
President George W. Bush adopted this approach and won a majority of the popular vote in 2004 even though only 48% of voters approved of his performance in office.
This strategy, of course, will be greatly impacted by the Republicans' choice of nominee. The more target rich the standard bearer, the more likely Democrats' success. At the moment, Republican primary voters seem poised to play into Democrat hands.
Mitt Romney has trouble inspiring Republican primary voters. This may be partly because of personal style, but also because of his past positions on health care, abortion, and other issues. But the fact that he's a man of even temperament with a less dogmatically conservative record makes him easier to elect in the fall.
Newt Gingrich presents the opposite: the former House Speaker is more appealing to the party faithful, a man of many talents, but he's also a political piñata for Democrats to attack.
We have seen the current front runner's leadership in action before. -- It ended badly for Republicans.
In 1995, conservatives and congressional Republicans were riding high. A Democrat president was on the ropes. Republican control of two branches of the federal government was within reach. But with a GOP majority House of Representatives led by Speaker Gingrich, the newly emboldened right over-reached. The government was shut down – twice. Withering battles over cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, education, and the environment alienated independents. The moment of opportunity was lost, and Bill Clinton was handily re-elected.
The former Speaker's style contributes to his problems. His self-confidence projects strength but without discipline it can tend toward hyperbole and grandiosity, off-putting to moderates who prefer steady predictability. His intellect is impressive but also insufficient. Empathy – a trait he does not exude – is equally important. Finally, his penchant for self-immolation and major missteps is well documented.
All of this isn't to say that Newt can't win. He has already defied predictions of his imminent demise, and his perseverance in the face of adversity and criticism is admirable. But his nomination would make Democrats' chances much brighter in 2012. His election would require a renewed American economic slump and a personal transformation rarely seen in a public figure his age.
In 2010, Tea Party insistence on ideological purity and anger with President Obama led Republicans to nominate seriously flawed Senate candidates in Delaware, Nevada, Colorado and Alaska. The result? Republicans may have preserved Democrat control of the Senate.
The assent of Donald Trump, Michele Bachmann, Rick Perry, Herman Cain, and now Newt Gingrich show that Republican primary and caucus voters may do the same with the presidency in 2012.
Bottom line: Republicans have a choice. Is the nomination primarily about winning, governing and setting policy? Or is it primarily about venting anger at President Obama and maintaining ideological purity? Evidence suggests they may choose the latter -- making Christmas all the merrier this year for Democrats.
My fellow Conservative Republicans, WE CANNOT ALLOW the above hypothetical situation to happen to us, nor our great country on Nov. 6th, 2012. We also CANNOT ALLOW the Leftist, Liberal, Socialist, Marxist, Democrats to make the 2012 General Elections to be about the GOP Nominee, instead of B. Hussein Obama's Presidential Term of FAILURE while in office.
We have to continue to remind the American Electorate of the current state of the U.S. Economy and joblessness and remind the voters that Obama has been in office THREE YEARS and soon to be FOUR YEARS and nothing has improved during his term in the White House. We have to tell the American electore any way that we can, that B. Hussein Obama hates this country and does not want it to rebound economically, succeed, nor be a leader in the world for freedom, democracy, capitalism, free markets and the private sector being stronger than the federal government where the people have all the power, instead of the feds whom are there to serve us.
We have to NOT ALLOW the Leftist, Liberal, Socialist, Marxist, Democrats to "change the subject" or try to distract the American electorate from focusing ON OBAMA's MISERABLE RECORD OF FAILURE WITH REGARDS TO THE U.S. ECONOMY AND JOBLESSNESS. We must force them to do what they already know themselves they cannot do and that's to DEFEND B. HUSSEIN OBAMA'S MISERABLE RECORD AS POTUS.
We also must not allow them to just "blame Bush" and then quickly change the subject to attack the GOP Nominee, the GOP party, Conservatism, Christianity, American Traditionalism, Our Philosophy on the "Truths of Life" and ANY prior administration's record. MAKE THEM DEFEND OBAMA'S RECORD AND DEFEND B. HUSSEIN OBAMA'S...
Obama has done a great job considering the he has been blocked by the republicans at every opportunity. Bush wreaked this country for profit. The republican party I knew and embraced for many years is gone. They do not support states rights or smaller government, they support privatized government, it costs more. Vote Ron Paul.
I love it that Republicans continue to beat the drum of "Obama has done nothing!" "He's an abject failure!" "Look at the economy!"
1) I don't believe for one second had McCain won in 2008 he would have had the foresight or actual intelligence to put forward as swift and politically difficult fixes as we've seen Obama do. Yes, the money spent is politically dangerous, but he did it in the best interests of the country, not to make sure people that were NEVER going to like him, actually did. Let us also not forget that the beginnings of the money spent to save us from the cliff of depression began with, and I realize that this is hard for Republicans, especially the Teabaggers, to hear, George W Bush in 2007 and 2008. Obama was not in office until 1/20/2009.
2) Republicans argue till they're red in the face that Obama had majorities in both houses for all of 2009 and 2010. The issue is that there were NEVER 60 Democratic/Independent Senators to overcome a Republican filibuster and there were a wave of conservative, so called, Blue-Dog democrats elected into both chambers. They are fiscally conservative, my way or the highway types (including Michael Bennett here in CO who I am beginning to regret voting for, btw) that refused to work with President Obama on anything. They came in with their own agenda and successfully hijacked things from he, Pelosi, and Reid. In 2010, this wave of Teabaggers were voted in solely on their opposition to the Health Care overhaul bill, which will be found to be constitutional. They also oppose tax increases on the wealthy stating that they create the jobs that this country desperately needs, when every economist in the nation derides this as false. They, not the Democrats or the President are what are standing in the way of things being accomplished for the good of the country, not the opposite as you are asserting. Based on things in Ohio and Wisconsin, I believe that the good people of this country have seen the errors of their ways and will show up in droves to fix it next November.
...RECORD ALONE.
They've even graded B. Hussein Obama themselves on this very thread when I asked them and the best grade they could give him was a "C" (a horrible grade from his own robot followers and one they knew they couldn't give any higher to, as they would look like the foolish, lying, robot followers that they are) and yet still posted their ridiculous beliefs that a "C" Graded POTUS is worth re-electing, even in a horrible U.S. Economy with a skyrocketing U.S. Unemployment rate. Thus making those posters "rambling defenses" of B. Hussein Obama look foolish and biased as they truly are. Make these Left Wing, Leftist, Liberal, Socialist Marxist, Democrat Kooks defend this CLOWN & "Community Organizer" President and they'll be stumbling over their foolish a**es trying to defend what they know to be a FAILURE of an inexperienced and unqualified POTUS. Trust Me.
Also, don't forget to vote and get every like-minded friend and relative you know to vote on Nov. 6th, 2012 and also give as much money that you can spare, to the GOP party and the GOP Candidates' Campaigns from now until the 2012 General Election.
JpArch, you have a good point, the south is still good. The midwest and the north east are what is screwed up, not all of it just cities. Welfare runs rampent, the politicians are more corrupt then most places and these city people do not travel for the most part. You and I travel and see all the good in the areas between the cities but yet they control the vote.
Susanmarie, you are one of those people that think you are a harvard grad and so much smarter then everybody else. I used to vote dem and I used to be a union member for 11 years. When you work your butt off your whole life and somebody thinks you should give that money away to somebody that doesn't, I have a problem with that. When you have a party that wants to go after farmers for making to must dust, I have a problem with that, when you have a party that every other word that comes out of there mouth is gun control or more requlation, I have a problem with that. Why not keep all your regulation and laws and rules in the city. In the country we can still walk down the street at 2 in the morning on a Friday night and don't need a gun, but we might have one just in case some jack wad that a liberal judge let off may be passing through our town. Take care and remember to vote like a ass in November.
Greg I couldn't agree more, we should keep our money in the city too. You keep the smell of Pig $hit out of the air and all that millions of tons of cow pi$$ and cow $hit out of the water tables and well get along just fine little doggie. 2000 cows generate enough waste to fill 50 Olympic size pools a day, drink up. 1\2 the ground water in Texas can't be drank, enjoy.. Cows are the single largest producer of methane gas on the planet if you can please inhale all of it and hold your breath we will be ok, other wise we don't like the small of your life style. So I agree with you you keep all your $hit in your back yard and well keep all our money in the city, good luck.
I see the cities and suburbs more. America has amazing treasures in its places and people. I wish they knew that.
I wholly disagree with your diatribe against unions. My dad was a union treasurer and first hand did not see the supposed corruption you speak of. Trust me on this....we were not rich, not by a long shot, nor for many years nothing more than working class blokes. It took me and my brother education and opening of our own companies to achieve the real successes we craved.
Unions for the most part gave workers an even platform to advocate for wages and benefits while also having the company come to the table with their own issues. It was a more reasonable time and the demonizing of entire segments of the working middle class by the super connected, wealthy and powerful had only just begun.
And take this to heart....the unions had nothing to do with this economic catastrophe. It was the result of highly leveraged trades in unregulated paper that was glossed over by a willing congress and nonexistent regulatory structure advocated and nursed along by decades of conservative blaring about the wonders of the free market. The attack on unions is the result of the lowering of the private sectors standard of living that was placed at the mercy of these financial goons. Its stoked envy....and mostly by the GOP. Watch Scott Walker go down in flames from this faustian bargain with the far right. It won't be pretty.
Gary K .
Will you please list why you think all public worker unions should be eliminated. Please avoid generalized stereotypical responses. I am interested in factual reasons. I am writing a paper on this topic. Thanking you in advance for your most thoughtful response.
Big unions are like having the workers pay for 2 groups of executives..the companies execs. , and the unions execs......
Unlike what B. Hussein Obama's administration falsely promised with his phony Stimulus (Liberal Slush Fund) bill of a couple of years ago and in which he had to retreat on his phrasing of "shovel ready jobs" (see YouTube) when his Stimulus (Liberal Slush Fund) bill of a couple of years ago had no jobs to be had, other than corporate cronyism at its finest with JUST GIVING $500 Billion plus of U.S. Taxpayer money to so-called "green energy companies" like Solyndra, only to have them go bankrupt a few months later, b/c there's no market for such fantasy-type, Leftist, Liberal, Socialist, Marxist, Democrat-type utopian industries.
This wonderful Solyndra company of B. Hussein Obama's buddies even had the audacity to request a U.S. Taxpayer bailout when they were going bankrupt and B. Hussein Obama even seriously considered giving it to them, save the GOP Congress people in the U.S. House of Representatives, who were not about to throw good money after bad to help B. Hussein Obama's capitalist cronies who ran Solyndra into the ground using ANY hard-working, U.S. Taxpayers money.
The radical, Lefist, Liberal, Socialist, Marxist, Democrat, Environmentalist kooks, who feel that the U.S. and even world businesses are beholden to their outlandish and phony rules and regulations before any progress can be done in turning around this horrible, wretched THREE YEARS of B. Hussein Obama economic failures, ARE DEAD WRONG!!!
The Keystone Pipeline has been in the works for sometime now and is not just some overnight thought of "the rich, mean, wealthy, greedy oil companies." And with regards to jobs created with this pipeline which runs from Southern Canada to Southern Texas is an outright true!!! This entire project is estimated to produce between 20,000 to 100,000 jobs when it's all said & done and American science and innovation will ensure that the environment is reasonably protected, just like it is with the Alaskan Pipeline, not the way the Left wing, environmentalist kooks want it to be, however.
Because that would mean NO USING OF OUR OWN NATURAL RESOURCES AT ALL, NOR EATING ANY MEAT, NOR HAVING ANY RUNNING WATER OR INDOOR PLUMBING, NOR USING ANY INDOOR AIR CONDITIONING/HEATING, ALSO NOT USING ANY CARS OR TRUCKS, ETC., IF FREAKS LIKE THEM HAD THEIR WAY. If Left wing, Environmentalist kooks are against a project, like the Keystone Pipeline, then we know it's good for creating PRIVATE SECTOR JOBS and helping the U.S. Economy and it should be supported, even that much more. Nuff Said!!!
Drop the socialist/ marxist labels first, and respectfully refer to our president as Mr Obama, and then your posts would be worth reading.
The GOP has NO chance of winning anything as long as a good percentage of this country sees most of their candidates as dogmatic ideologues who are hel*-bent on forcing the rest of us to live under a fetid brew of corporate control and religious fundamentalism, or in Romney's case; an amazingly out of touch hedge fund manager whose wealth was built on destroying companies and lives, while amassing ridiculous fees and somehow this translates into 'success'.
Your party's issues are you still think it is 1994 and you have a mandate to 'rule', not govern. Anyone who travels the country and has a decent high-school level education, and gets their news from more than the Fox Opinion channel readily sees that the GOP is desperate, tired and bitter. Your anger over the loss in 08 to a black man has also made some of the less color-blind members of the GOP go apoplectic.
You could've nominated a more reasonable candidate with a sense of the world but fealty to Grover Nordquist and the Christian Taliban will once again be the GOP's undoing.
Maybe 2016....
Blah, Blah, Blah, and angy, angry, angy. I stomp foot and glare and call names. Uh!! Look at man beat chest with nationalistic vigor! I show you how me not like Obama!
Like JP said, come down a peg on the names. God gave you a brain, use it. It might make you feel pretty small and stupid whe you realized what footpad treatment you've been subjected to by your party. Turn off the opinion machine for awhile and try to come up w/ counter arguments to the ones you hold so dearly, it might give you a happier outlook on life.
These Leftist, Liberal, Socialist, Marxist, Left Wing, Democrat Kooks who post on these threads, think that the American people will just do what THEY WISH we all would do and that's simply "ignore" B. Hussein Obama's THREE YEARS OF FAILURE, INCREASE OF AMERICAN JOBLESSNESS AND SPENDING MORE U.S. TAXPAYER MONEY AND DRIVING UP THE FEDERAL BUDGET DEFICIT AND U.S. NATIONAL DEBT, MORE THAN ALMOST ALL THE OTHER U.S. PRESIDENTS BEFORE HIM...COMBINED!!!
Now if the U.S. Economy were going great and if the U.S. Unemployment Rate was like 5%, if the U.S. Housing Market was turned around and home values were no longer upside down with their mortgages and home foreclosures were way down and if American workers' salaries were way up and health care and health insurance costs were way down, we all know these Leftist, Liberal, Socialist, Marxist, Left Wing, Democrat Kooks would be singing Obama's praises and telling about all his positive accomplishments as POTUS and how B. Hussein Obama saved the American people from former President Bush's horrible "inherited" economy. THEY WOULDN'T BE GIVING FORMER PRESIDENT BUSH THE CREDIT FOR OBAMA'S NOW THREE YEARS IN OFFICE IF THE ABOVE POSITIVE THINGS WERE HAPPENING WITH REGARDS TO THE U.S. ECONOMY, WOULD THEY?
So if they wouldn't be giving former President Bush credit if the CURRENT U.S. Economy were going great with all the above things I mentioned, why wouldn't they be giving B. Hussein Obama the credit for making the U.S. Economy WORSE THAN EVER, with his failed policies and presidency IN THREE YEARS...hhmm??!!
They foolishly and ignorantly think that THEY ARE in the majority thinking of the American Electorate and that the American Voters next Nov.
Ya know Johnny my boy...you are blowing a ton of balloon juice. I am looking at FOX right this minute, and the last troops just left Iraq. This, you anti American SOB is OUR GREAT PRESIDENT cleaning up the GARBAGE you and your war mongering, phony religious,RIGHT wing NUTJOBS left behind. Not to mention the 8000 troops you have had killed under false pretenses !!! Go crawl back under your rock, and save the reply,I will not waste one more second on your USA HATIN' ASS !!!
Obama is just plain not the person needed to drag this country back on it's feet. I like much of what Paul says but am a bit dubious about some of his tangents. Romney has a decent chance at at least starting to fix the U.S. I believe he undestands that it is going to hurt, a lot, to put us back on our feet. I don't particularly like him but would hire him to bail out a company in trouble. I will probably vote to hire him to fix what's broken. The right person for the job is not necessarily the nicest; just the best.
Yeah that's pretty much what Obama told the American public when he ran for office. Inherited massive mess, have to clean up, Look, this won't be easy and won't happen overnight, long road ahead of us and we need to stick together. If Romney gets in, he won't have to say that b/c, in all actuality, the president stopped from from falling back into a depression, and we have been very slowly recovering. Less mass layoffs are occurring, slowly hiring is going up. Companies are amassing more wealth, they're just aren't hiring a lot because they can make a profit off of they've got. People are buying a little more. Obama just got us out of the war. It'd be just like loosening a lid for someone so they can claim that they opened it.
Well the Cowboys won !!! So I stopped by when I saw the RIGHTS were on !!! Is Garyk entertaining everyone with his jabberwalkee...otherwise the posts have been quite vicious and hateful coming from our FAR RIGHT flank. The more their dreams come apart the more they hate !!! By election time they should be ready to disappear back into the bowels of the Koch brothers, not to be seen again until approximately 2020 when they might have a shot at the White House and Republicans are allowed back into politics !!!
Ron Paul may be right on many fiscal economic issues, but on foreign policy, he's an absolute LUNATIC!!
This notion of his, that if you believe that an Islamic nation is a threat, then by extension, you must hate all Muslims is stupid beyond belief. And it's this kind of stupidity that will get a lot of people killed by just ignoring what the leaders of those Islamic nations declare.
Ron Paul makes Gingrich look like a genius, and I despise him, so...
Tetrapoda: You hate Gingrich?? Well great, that makes at least two of us.
Ron Paul is 100% correct on foreign policy. You want foolish wars then first your kids first on the line. Your nephews, cousins etc. 2nd you pay for it. I dont really care what any of those Middle east leaders say. They are no threat to us. Bring em all home from Korea, Europe etc. You people spend 25 hrs a day bitchin Obama is aweful socialist/marxist. Then want to spend a bunch of money defending aweful socialist. Make up you minds already.
Please before you vote for Mitt Romney, please learn more about the Mormon church.
Specifically learn about the weird rituals that take place in the Mormon Temples.
Learn how the religion was formed by Joseph Smith, a con artist.
I think that Morman stuff , is a little better than that Voo Doo stuff......not sure though...
