'I don't hate Muslims,' Bachmann says repeatedly in Iowa

James Novogrod / NBC News

Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., addresses reporters Saturday in Estherville, Iowa, where she was campaigning for the Republican presidential nomination.

ALGONA, Iowa – A feud inside the GOP presidential field provoked Michele Bachmann to defend her hard line on Iran on Saturday while insisting that she doesn't "hate Muslims."

Bachmann repeated variations on that phrase in at least three cities during her 99 county bus tour of Iowa.

"I don't hate Muslims.  I love the American people.  And as president of the United States, my goal will be to keep America safe, free, and sovereign," Bachmann told reporters Saturday morning  in Estherville.

The unusually personal self-defense is the latest element in a back-and-forth with U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, who criticized Bachmann on national television Friday night.

Appearing on NBC's "Tonight Show," Paul said Bachmann "doesn’t like" Muslims.

"She hates Muslims," Paul added. "She wants to go get 'em."

The origins of the feud go back to Thursday's Fox News debate, in Sioux City, where Paul and Bachmann locked horns over how to handle the prospect of a nuclear Iran.

"There's war propaganda going on," Paul said of pronouncements among the GOP about confronting the threat.

"To me, the greatest danger is that we will have a president that will overreact and we will soon bomb Iran," he added.

Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul appears on the "Tonight Show With Jay Leno" Friday at NBC Studios in Burbank, Calif.

Asked to reply, Bachmann said: "I think I have never heard a more dangerous answer for American security than the one that we just heard from Ron Paul."

She later added that the idea of not confronting Iran amounts to "the greatest under-reaction in world history."

(Bachmann's plan on Iran, unveiled in November, does not call for an immediate strike, but recommends "crushing" sanctions and covert activity to destabilize the regime.)

On Saturday, Bachmann used Paul's charge that she "hates" Muslims to advance her own assertions about Iran's leaders.

"Where the true hatred is coming from is the president of Iran and the mullahs," Bachmann told reporters in Algona.

"They’ve said unequivocally that they want to obtain a nuclear weapon for the express purpose of using it against our ally, Israel, to kill the Jews," she said, adding: "They also want to use it against the United States and kill Americans."

The only thing more stupid than Bachman is, uh, um, oh I remember, the majority of idiots who voted for her in District 6 of Minnesota. Yep, they are definitely dumber than her. I was going to say Palin, but she just didn't meet the dumb quota there.

Bottom line, you can't blame Bachman, she just represents the millions of idiots in Minnesota who drool, then take a spill on it after it freezes on the ground in front of them. I mean really, with that kind of cold, how can you ever achieve intelligence?

Ron Paul made a real azz of himself on Leno last night. Accusing Bachman of "hating Muslijms" because she is determined to stop Iran from making and using nuclear weapon is the worst kind of cartoon slander. Just because someone is critical of Islam, or wants to stop Iran from building a nuke, does not mean that they hate Muslims.

Paul is a real know-nothing when it comes to international affairs. His approach is to bury his head in the sand and hope for the best. That's how Hitler came to power when the world tried that approach in the 1930s. The present gov. of Iran is even more dangerous than Hitler and the Nazis, exactly because of nukes.

Plus, just as with Hitler in "Mein Kampf," President Nutjob and the Mullahs have let it be known what they want to do with a nuke, i.e. drop it on Israel and "wipe it off the map." Great. And now Paul, in his infinite know-nothing wisdom, is helping pave the way for that by running interference against people who are trying to sound the alarm about Iran and their intentions. Paul's head-in-the-sand, thinking is even more naive and dangerous than Bachman's evangelical fairy thinking.

Michele Bachmann's positions exposes an interesting mathematical reality. Were she to receive the votes of every single registered voter in America whom is not a member of any religious, socio-economic, ethnic, racial, sexual persuasion or political group which she has already slandered or otherwise alienated, ... she could not get elected. And there hasn't even been a primary caucus or election yet; lots of time to slander and alienate more voters.

So, Michele, what is the point of your continuing with this charade except for your vanity?

Bachmann represents under-educated Americans who have a hard time accepting anyone who looks, believes, or behaves differently from their narrow vision of What Decent Folk Should Be (white, fundamentalist Christian, reflexively Republican... credulous).

As for the current hysteria on the subject of Muslims: This same kind of religious nutballery enabled long-dead heads of state to initiate the Crusades, an unsolicited and disastrous attempt to grab up prime "Holy Land" real estate in the name of our Personal Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Until then, Muslims tended to approve of any fellow monotheist, but repeated Christian invasion gave them serious second thoughts about Christians.

You might say that today's minority of violent, radical Islamists owe a lot to the Crusaders. Thanks, Christian soldiers.

As for Mrs. Bachmann: If she were a Muslim, a whirling dervish, or an atheist, she'd still be dumber than a can of old pink paint.

The same as Dr. Paul's vision of foreign policy. The Iranian govt holds their power by the suppression of the people of Iran. They are the single most destabilizing influence in the region. Allowing them to get nuclear weapons will certainly end in destruction.

WHO'S Bachmann?

    #1.37 - Sun Dec 18, 2011 7:49 PM EST

"They’ve said unequivocally that they want to obtain a nuclear weapon for the express purpose of using it against our ally, Israel, to kill the Jews," she said, adding: "They also want to use it against the United States and kill Americans."

Actually, they didn't say that. The leaders of Iran have stated that they are not planning on obtaining nuclear weapons, and while they hate Israel and make threats against it, they're threatening with conventional weapons, not A-bombs. It's Al-Qaida that wants to kill Americans, not Iran, relations between Iran and the US is hostile but not that hostile. What Bachman and the rest of the neocon right fail to understand is the animosity between Iran and Al-Qaida is greater than between the US and Iran.

There is no evidence that Iran is building "The Bomb", but since there is no proof that they aren't, the paranoid fringe assumes the worst and hypes up the fear factor. There has long been efforts to get US to go to war against all of Israel's enemies for them, that's how the US got conned into declaring war against Iraq, when there was no valid reason to do so. Now the bogus war drums are calling to attack Iran, and don't be surprised if we start hearing bogus calls to go to war against Syria and Egypt and Lebanon, too.

I rarely agree with Ron Paul, but for once he is right.

Bush hater, you are proof of how and why the status quo is able to persist. Your myopic Republitard brush of blame is idiotic. Don't look now but Yobozo has been somewhat less than truthful, transparent, honest or genuine about anything... accept expanding the power of the King, and making us all poorer. Wise up chump... there's no diff between any of the status quo knuckleheads, no matter which party taint they lick.

Re: Bachmann, and Sanitarium for that matter, there are probably not two more disturbed demagogues on the planet... excepting of course the union whores pushing the Fabian agenda for the Democrats. The bottom line remains constant, that they all desire to keep us throwing our wealth and borrowed money at these imaginary threats that they must keep concocting so that morons will keep giving up freedoms to try and pretend they are safe. Give Dr. Paul's "What If" speech a listen, and after just a few minutes of actually thinking about what he says you will find that they are all truly idiots.

The majority of Iranians/Persians are just like the rest of us... put upon and subjugated by an oppressive regime that desires nothing more than to expand and maintain their power. While we're being distracted by everything from 24/7 sports and beer programming to false flags and war mongering propaganda, the people of Iran just want to be left alone. Why is that so hard to grasp. They have plenty of reasons to dislike us, and I can't quite see why threatening to bomb them makes any of that anything but exponentially worse. Read a little history about our hegemony and long history of Democratic and Republican supported empire building and you may start to understand why there are so many folks that wish us ill.

Consider for a moment just how absolutely retarded the idea is that is being used to support Yobozo, Bachmann's, Sanitarium, the Newt's, and all of the other liars club's excuses for our militaristic overseas presence. Their bottom line is so absurd it's insane. They would have us believe that there are a race of people that populate a large part of the other side of the world... who are completely nuts. They are all stark raving mad. They awake each morning not thinking about work, or school, or what's for breakfast or who they love and care for - but rather they awaken to the same crazy thought that filled their every waking moment the day before, and the day before, and the day before, all of the way back to when their kind first became self aware after having left the primordial ooze. That's right, they are and have always been, completely possessed with an mindless hatred of our freedoms. I know this is so because I heard Mr. Bush say those very words... repeatedly. Then I heard the jerk-off Democrat that sits next to the idiot Bachmann on the oxymoronic "Intelligence Committee" say the very same idiotic thing. What's the matter with you people... it's just that simple right? We are inherently correct and good, whereas they are all crazy as cat crap from birth... 'cuz why?

What sanctions has Iran placed against us that impact our lives EVERY day, and make it harder for us just to eat and survive? How many times do we hear large numbers of their politicians specifically saying that they intend to take away a huge source for us to be able to provide the energy we need? How many enemies of ours are friends of Irans, AND are right on our border? How many times have the Iranians toppled our government? How many times have the Iranians and their allies sunk oil wells in say Texas or Pennsylvania to steal our oil? How many times have they announced on the international stage that they intend to use covert actions and force of unlimited means to topple our government yet again, or at least de-stabilize it to the point that everyone will surely suffer? How peculiar is it that while the Western currencies are melting into the giant puddle of worthless spent jizz that they truly are, the self righteous leaders of the supposed free world are trying to destroy one of the few stable, and potentially non-cooperating currencies left on the planet. Yeah... makes perfect sense doesn't it... I mean the part where they are crazy and we are in the morally superior position of always being right while they are wrong 100% of the time. WTF?!

The only real question a sensible person should have about Iran is, why haven't they already attacked us? Short of spraying them with poison gas (as our proxy Sadaam had done) we have tried everything imaginable to get them to attack us. I can't understand why they still haven't?

As for Bachmann, et als, impending Muslim nuke threat, screw those morons. Fact check shows that just as with the idiotic claims that Dr. Paul hates Israel, everything that he says is true, and everything that the rest of the Republicans AND Democrats say is complete crapola. We could give them a nuke, step back three steps and go "Nah, nah, nah, nah, nahhh, Allah wears army boots " and the only way that they are gonna be able to use it on us is to try and get FedEx or UPS to deliver it. Yeah... I wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat worryin' about that Iranian Air Force and their strategic missile force. What is it, balsa wood and rubber bands? Give me a friggin' break!

O.K., so maybe they get some low grade radioactive crap put together in a suitcase and decide to loose it on Washington. Hey... sounds GREAT! I can't think of a group more deserving.

America needs to get a little perspective. Try leaving this country some time and take a look at how the crap that we pull looks to the rest of the world. It's a wonder they don't all get together and just straight up kick our ass. Over 700 overseas military installations and growing... for what,... and by what right?! 'Cuz we're good and "spreading Democracy"???? Look at the messes we have made the world over and try to repeat that without laughing. Here's another one for ya... when was the last time that anything as simple minded as Bachmann's or Yobozo's sanctions accomplished ANYTHING positive? Have they ever worked AT ALL? Other than provoking war, they do not and have not, so unless the point is to start a war, just shut up and let an adult take the wheel.

Right now there's only one interested or willing, and he also happens to be the only one who is capable of telling the truth, and yes that includes the current liar in chief.

Dr. Paul deserves, and we all deserve, to give what he suggests a chance. There is no honest downside to what he wants to do, but the alternative is an epic fail. Listen to the man at least once and allow yourselves a chance to hear and think unfiltered. He may be our last hope.

First, Israel is a big country. They can take care of themselves. Secondly, Iranians know that if they nuked us, they are going to get nuked back. Saying that the Iranian mullahs don't love their kids as much as we love our own kids is soft racism. They are also human. Pakistan, another Islamic country, and India, a country with an Islamic population even larger than Pakistan's, have both had nukes for over 10 years now. Somehow the world seems to have been able to deal with it. By no means is nuclear proliferation a good idea, but a small country getting minor nuclear weapons is not the end of the world, either. There are conventional weapons that are more powerful than the nuclear ones Pakistan, India or Iran could ever manage to manufacture.

Thirdly, if we bomb Iran, we will be paying $20/gallon of gas. Personally, I am not willing to see the destruction of our economy just so that some twerp with a chip on his or her should about Muslims can have their lurid fantasies fulfilled.

Ahh, the sweet smell of being collapsed. What's the matter? Can't handle the truth? Didn't think so.

The righties discovered the exclamation point at the bottom right of the post. Now, instead of responding, they just mark as inflammatory and then think they've won. Sad, really. I wish the mods would just eliminate that option and go with the flow. If something is that distasteful, then they should be the ones to delete it altogether.

Matthew of Houston, you are absolutely correct -- Bachmann is pretty much of a one-note in what she loves or likes - whites, right wing evangelicals, straights-not-gays, etc. This is widely known as vanilla pudding even though in her case it has gone terribly rancid. I fail to see why your truthful remarks were collapsed by the community...

Why is it that the left always accuses of hate Don't they understand that the act of accusing without real evidence IS hate? Accusing people of things is spreading hate, not diminishing it! When the basis of accusation is other unprovable accusations, then it will not stand the test of time.

If the GOP candidates want to be taken seriously for intellect, ideas and leadership, they need to stop cow-towing to FOX! For those that still don't get it, she thinks Muslims cannot be Americans.

Very apropos of you to talk about hate and name-calling and what not, without actually checking facts. This whole 'wiping Israel off the map' is a perfect example. Do you realize that no one has actually ever said that? Just do a simple Google search and check for yourself. But I'll save you the hassle if you want to read a nice blog from the Washington Post (usually a pretty respected news organization).

              Enjoy.

[Bachmann's plan on Iran, unveiled in November, does not call for an immediate strike, but recommends "crushing" sanctions and covert activity to destabilize the regime.]

Does anyone really believe that Iran isn't under the microscope of every intelligence agency that we can think of (and even those that we don't know about)? Because if you do, I can arrange to sell you a bridge...lightly used...just painted...for a low low price.

Could it be, Mishie, that the other committee members of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence simply don't trust you and may be keeping you in the dark on some of these very issues because they know you will say and do anything in your feeble attempt at a WH run?

Bachmann is a war monger in a dress. This excerpt is from her bio:

She has taken the opportunity of serving on the Intelligence Committee to regularly advocate for peace through strength to ensure America's national security.

Simply put, she is full of @!$%#.

Unfortunately and it's quite scary that once the GOP begins dropping "hints", you know exactly where they're heading and lately the clues have been about invading Iran so you know they're already in talks about what to do about them.... as soon as they take over.

Just listen to their people when certain key words are spoken, how they light up and press them on. Never mind that the people cheering shouldn't be listened to much less pleased.... they're for killing people and not just criminals but the poor and disenfranchised..... they're racist, homophobic and hate everyone who isn't exactly like them, doesn't matter if we're supposed to have freedom of expression or religion... it's their way or you're an enemy. They don't want to lend a helping hand to anyone, even if they're supposed to espouse Christian beliefs (don't they know what these are and that Christ was the original disenfranchised poster boy?).... they're afraid of everything and everyone, have the closest minds on earth and want to set the example....

All I can say is that how did we let these people take such a prominent place in our society? They're a fringe group with less than a minority representation and are making the clown candidates dance to their tune? Seriously? Would you even buy a used car from this woman?

She keeps saying she hasn't had a misstep, does she truly believe this? Does she live in another planet? She continually lies, twists the truth and actually thinks she's got what it takes to be President, what is she on? I wish she would just go away, along with some of the others.... it's shameful and makes a ridicule of the whole country to have these types of people thinking they represent us. No way!!!!

Neither Bachmann, nor her base 'hates Muslims'! Where do you libbies get this stuff? While there are Americans who "hate" Muslims, there are also Americans who "hate" Christians. Why does the former group get more attention.... well maybe 9/11, Iran, Islamic Terrorist attacks both here and around the world, Osama bin Laden, etc, etc..... why would you put Muslim "haters" in Bachmann's camp?

Lol, I love reading wacko liberal blogs, mostly to reafirm how well Obama has been in creating class warfare in this great country. All the more reason to fight for real change in 2012 before the country really goes off the deep end!

Yes F.M. Fan, Obama is engaged in class warfare…. Warfare against the middle class. And part of that strategy is to portray conservatives (Bachmann is just the latest whipping post) as being anti-Muslim. How ironic considering that many of Obama’s actions as president would indicate he is a Muslim pretending to be a Christian. As an example, we can all remember Obama canceling the National Day of Prayer at the White House service.

The 4/16/10 decision by Wisconsin U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb that the National Day of Prayer is unconstitutional. She ruled that it violates the First Amendment's ban against a law respecting an establishment of religion (full decision pdf). Another irony is that this Judge Crabb was appointed by Jimmy Carter who was almost as liberal as our current president!

Bloggers that accused Obama of canceling the National Day of Prayer also cite displeasure with Obama's departure from the Bush administration policies. Last year, Obama decided not to hold an official White House service for the day, as former President George W. Bush did during his administration. (Obama did make a proclamation. But held no service as Bush and earlier presidents had done)

So when I hear the liberals attack Bachmann without proof I also hear another battle in Class Warfare, directed at the middle class and conservatives! Yes many ironies connected to this administration!

Robin and FM Fan - did either of you actually read the story you are commenting on?? Repub Ron Paul is the one who accused Bachman of hating Muslims. The rest of us have actually opened our eyes and seen what she stands for, listened to what she says. She is "christian", meaning that she believes the only people in true need are homosexuals who want to pray the gay away, or those of other religions who wish to convert to what she believes in. The only gov't assistance she is for is for her business and causes she supports, but not for the sick, elderly, unemployed or any other really needy person. Does she hate Muslims? Probably, but because they are not like her. She is a horrible, hateful person and if she is someone you'd like to see lead this country, you must really be blind. And the comments about Obama - really sounds like you've been watching way too much Fox "news" and not actually looking into any facts for yourself. Stop being lead by Fox. Go to sites such as Politifact and Factcheck.

President Obama is trying, as a world leader, to keep us safe, yet at the same time, not get into the fear mongering that Michele Bachmann's base loves to do. They seem to many of us to be a little on the ignorant side.

We haven't handled ourselves well after 9/11. There is a great deal of Muslim paranoia, fear and hate going on in this country.

Pride and Joy: Terrorism is a reality. We all know that. Our aggressiveness after 9/11 should not have included going into Iraq. Why kill people who weren't ever going to attack us? This isn't the America most of us want to be.

It's amazing how Americans can look at what we did in Iraq with pure indifference. A handful of terrorists flew planes on 9/11. How many Iraqi's died because of our GD stupidity? How many of our troops died in Iraq?

There are evil people in this country. Pure evil.

I agree Pat...And I hereby apologize to Iraqi citizens for the unprovoked killing of your children....I am sorry..Because I believed the lie too that there were WMDs that they were ready to use on us here at home and I wanted to go there myself and fight...But I was fooled and didn't go back on active duty immediatly...Thank God because I would have a hard time sleeping...I have plenty on immediate Family members that have been deployed to both theatres though and the ones that went to Iraq do have trouble with thier consience now even though they know it wasn't thier mistake...

The only difference between a terrorist and a freedom fighter is what side you are on. When the US backs ruthless regimes, or the CIA assassinates people it is for the noble cause of freedom, when others who we disagree with do the same it is a despicable act of terrorism. When the people of Iran turned on our puppet leader the Shah of Iran we gave Saddam Hussein our full backing because Iraq was at war with Iran. Do you think all the people in Iraq see us a liberators, because I'll bet many see us as terrorist aggressors.

Forrest, great post. And true. Americans have a real problem dealing with reality. But you nailed it.

We aren't supposed to apologize for Iraq in any way, shape or form. Yet Muslims all over the world and even here in America are not to be trusted. That's the message the GOP wants to relay. Look at King in NY. What a stupid stupid man he is.

President Obama is not apologizing. He's attempting to change perceptions. And it's working. We didn't see American flags burning during the Arab Spring.

What we did see were messages of thank you to the United States and our President.

Pat can you believe many people want to justify torture as a means of fighting terrorism, if you are going to become what you are supposedly defending yourself against, then what is the point. It is not easy for us to admit as a nation, but we have done many of the things we condemn others for, it is easy to justify our own bad behavior, while simultaneously condemning others. When Christians waged a holy war it is described as a crusade by the west, when Muslims wage a holy war it is terrorist Jihadism. How does a good evangelical Christian justify the bombing of an abortion clinic as doing the work of God, I guess the same way radical Muslims justify their acts of terrorism as doing the work of their God. Some Christians believe in the right to life so strongly that their God inspires them to kill people, these good Christian candidates don't want to talk about that now do they, they would rather focus on Muslims, because it is important for us to understand that their radical religious beliefs can make them dangerous. Oh really, just them?

Forrest, and no matter how often you try to explain all that, the GOP aren't interested. They truly make me ill. They haven't a thing to offer our future except more hate, more fear mongering, more wars. It's what makes them feel secure. It's what makes them feel "smart".

Everybody has become their enemy. And I mean everybody. You could make a Twilight Zone episode describing their irrationality. Oh wait. Rod Serling already did that.

                About 60 freakin' years ago.

They haven't changed one iota in all these years. If anything, they've gotten worse, mostly because of talk radio and Fox. They need to make people afraid in order to get ratings and keep the sensible ones out of office. The Democrats.

And to think. Americans actually buy that crap. The way I look at it - after what the Bush people and the media were able to pull off re: Iraq, I realized Americans would believe just about anything bad you tell them.

What has happened to them? Their lives depend solely on having enemies. Or a supposed weak Democratic president. It's one big cycle. The Obama Administration have killed a great many terrorists. Doesn't matter.

Americans are told he is weak. And they buy it. If they only realized it is they themselves who are weak. They're just too insulated to see it.

Look how they treat President Obama. He is, I saw recently, the most admired leader in the world. Yet look at how he is treated here. In America.

The greatest country on earth, so they say.

Evidently God made our country, according to Romney. Unbelievable.

In Egypt 2008 Obama apologised for America's agressiveness against Islam. Read the speech liberals!

Remember that's the speech in which he said America is no longer (just) a Christian Nation!

He was also criticized, and rightfully so, for refusing to wear the US Flag lapel pin..... he reasons for doing so were never completely explained, but I notice he is now wearing it......

So lay off Bill and Pride and Joy, what they say is essentially true but really offends liberals as is any truthful criticism of Obama does..... tunnel vision indeed!

Leaving politics and the argument whether Obama did or did not apologize for aggressiveness against the religion of Islam aside for a moment because I don't want what I am going to say to be seen as a specific defense of the president who needs no defense as he has been unapologetic about collecting the heads of our enemies.

I would like to just offer my opinion on apologies in general. In my opinion an apology is a sign of strengh of character, a healthy balanced measure of self esteem, ego, and self respect. It is not easy admit you are wrong and to apologize to someone, it is even harder to do so in public. I have went overboard on this blog a few times and I have posted apologies for all to see to those individuals when I realized I was over the line. I don't care if some think that makes me look weak, because I firmly believe it does not make me weak, it certainly makes me uncomfortable to have do such a thing, but when you are wrong, you have to be honest and strong enough to admit it. Have you ever felt you were owed an apology from a coworker for example, if you get that apology then it becomes a more of a matter of disagreement and not a matter of personal respect, if you do not get an apology where it is do you lose respect for that person. How many people know someone who never admits they are wrong, even when they are cleary wrong, do you have a lot of respect for that person? How many people know someone who admits it when they are wrong, and while you may disagree with that person you feel that there is a healthy level of mutual respect between yourself and that person. I worked right in the middle between labor and management for years, I have seen situations that have escalated to near mayhem that could have been nipped in the bud by a simple apology by the offending party on one side or the other, but when one person refuses to simply admit they are in the wrong it breeds mistrust, it breeds anger, and it taints future negotiations between those parties. An apology is never a sign of weakness, it is a sign of the personal strength to be fair and honest, even about our own mistakes, it allows us to keep our own self respect, and maintain a level of respect even from people who disagree with us, and it keeps our mistakes (and we all make some) from escalating into full distrust and anger by those we have wronged. People who refuse to apologize display their own weakness of character, not a strength, the person who apologizes when it is warranted displays their strength of character, not a weakness. Someone who says an apology would make them look weak is applying the ultimate spin to make themselves feel better about their own true weakness of character, and their inability to be fair and honest with themselves and consequently to be fair and honest with others.

Forrest, I agree with your interpretation of an apology (for an individual)! However I disagree with Obama apologizing not for himself, but for the USA in the instance being discussed! In this case it shows a sign of weakness, something our president should never convey.

I disagree apologies work the same whether it is an individual, or an individual that is a spokesperson for a group, the only difference is the number of people who are represented, if a group needs to make or receive an apology a representative of that group can make or receive it, and it reflects on the entire group. This country does in fact have a problem with blaming all of Islam for the actions of radical groups, can you imagine every Christian being treated with the same regard as those that blow up abortion clinics and murder doctors who who provide abortions. It was never a show of weakness, it was a distinction between Islam the most popular religion in the world (by an immense margin) and radical Islamic extremists, which he has no hesitation in killing and makes no apologies for doing so. A weak president would not have completely circumvented Pakistan's government and go right in their sovereign space and kill our number one radical Islamic enemy. This president conveys anything but weakness on this issue, I'll tell you who conveyed real weakness GW bush and his republican administration, GW Bush's own words was that "he did not think about Bin Laden much anymore as he had not heard much from him lately", yeah that was the same guy that previously stood on a pile of world trade center rubble with a bullhorn claiming we will bring those responsible to justice. Obama has racked up more terrorists in three years than Bush did in eight, he makes it clear it is not a general attack on the religion of Islam, but conveys anything but weakness towards radical sects that intend to do us harm. This president has conveyed anything but weakness and has the heads on the wall to make that point clear.

The war drums are beating in the distance. The GOP agenda is foreshadowing a ground war in Iran. You wanna worry about N weapons in the Muslim world, start with Pakistan. Hey, they already got'em.

The GOP will have you believe the Iranian Muslims are a special threat because they don't yet have Nukes. Pakistan has the Nukes and if you believe they are our allies I got a moat the sell you.

I say the Democrat response to the Iran threat is to advocate a ground invasion of Pakistan. At least India will be on our side.

Huntsman doesn't stand a chance because the GOP apparatchik don't think he's controllable. Bachmann or Perry would have been their preferred choice, but they are SO stupid, they blew their chances way too early in the race. Poor GOP now has to figure out whether they can more easily control Romney or Gingrich. I'm betting they'll back Newt, because while he is just as crazy as Bachmann or Perry, he's smart enough to keep it turned down a notch.

Not to mention the threat of retaliation they pose to our nation.

Nope, the Mullahs do not allow Gays. They don't have a problem with consorts with sheep or young boys, cuz, that's not gayness.

Plus, they're not allowed to eat the sheep afterwards, which makes my wonder why nobody has set up a business in the middle east selling lip gloss and eye shadow to sheep. They could get paid in wool. The young boys are merely being trained for their future careers as professional fundamentalist molesters. Kind of an apprenticeship. Apparently, they need to keep the line going.

Bachmann and her psycho-babble witch-doctor husband are so back-assed ignorant that they think the bidet is a drinking fountain for the family dog!!!!! With any luck at all, the next person she gives a piece of her mind to, the subtraction will be enough to reduce her to a drooling brain-stem. Damn too late!!!!!!

"I don't hate Muslims. I love the American people. And as president of the United States, my goal will be to keep America safe, free, and sovereign," Bachmann told reporters Saturday morning in Estherville.

I wonder if she was coming out of Lowe's when she talked to the reporters.

Nope, not kidding. Never said she wasn't a nut, just that she is, physically, a very attractive woman. I was sitting next to a guy who didn't know who she was (he'd been working outside the country for awhile), who commented that she was hot, but he did not know who she was. Point being, if you ignore her . . . nuttiness(?), she is hot.

Melissa; the whole thing is a mystery to me. I do spend sometime in her district, which takes in some wealthy 'burbs, and heads up toward St. Cloud. I often ask the people I meet there if they voted for Bachmann and why and the only answer I get is "I didn't vote for her." But SOMEONE did! The area leaving the Twin Cities is a huge guns and God area, akin to what you might see in the South. I am guessing her votes come from there. She had a reasonable challenger that almost won last time, and I hope that she gets challenged by Tarryl Clark again. I think she can win. If that district ever wakes up to the fact that Bachmann hasn't shown up for work since she started running for President, it may make a difference.

Ventura was a real adventure..all drama, no work. He squandered an opportunity to show that a third party candidate can make a real change.

Appearing on NBC's "Tonight Show," Paul said Bachmann "doesn’t like" Muslims.

"She hates Muslims," Paul added. "She wants to go get 'em."

^ She hates Muslims, Gays and Blacks (which is why she hates the President).

Ron Paul's accurate statement cuts to the quick, because she can't play the "liberal" card and accuse him of being a liberal.

This has nothing to do with Muslims, it has everything to do with Iran. Iran is the one making it be about Islam. They're the ones yelling to the whole world that all of their insanity is because of Islam. We're not reacting to Islam, we're reacting to Iran's insanity. And they (the supreme leaders of Iran, whatever) are clearly a few bricks shy of a full load which is pretty scary considering how hard they are trying to get nuclear weapons right now.

It is not war mongering to listen to what the leader of Iran is saying and believe he means it. It is self-preservation. Churchill was the only leader in Britain who actually read Mein Kampf and believed it. They called him a war monger too. The difference is they didn't have nukes back then. The world simply cannot afford a Chamberlain this time around.

Oops how dare I say the obvious truth. I must be a war monger too.

ron paul is wrong to level such charge against bachman. islamic terror is a real life issue, not an imaginary one. iran mullah rule there with an iron fist, aggressive on nukes, have a publicly stated mal intent. it is the job of president to address that issue which escapist paul seems to say does not exist. ron frames the issue the way muslims do when they defend terror or create diversions by saying "all muslims are not like that" and make an outrageous countercharge of bigotry. nobody is fooled any more on islamic terror which is institutional, government supported, mulla preached, well funded and has a long reach enough to present a credible security threat which must be neutered.

There is real terror in the world alright and the terror is the United State and our 3-B diplomacy - bully, bribe and bomb. We unfortunately have an insatiable appetite for wars and our corporate leaders and the Pentagon are just itching for another nation to attack now that we have supposedly vacated Iraq. Wars, if you haven't noticed, are a money making racket. The defense industry makes huge profits and they are a fast track for promotions for the officer corps. Just forget about the poor grunts that do the fighting as the Pentagon brass considers them an expendable commodity. Been there!

Iran elected a democratic leader ins 1952, we, the CIA at the behest of BP overthrew this elected leader in 1953 ad installed both the Shah and CIA trained brutal secret police. the Iranians rebelled and installed the Ayatolla in the 70's. WHy are they mad at us? Oh we also shot down an airliner fill of 236 civillians. and we occupy the countries to the east and west of them.

Saying they want to kill us because we are free is BS.

"why dont' they attack sweeden? switzerland?" Ron Paul.

the most populous country for Muslims is Indonesia are we going to war there as well?

IT's for money it's for oil. No more war. no more death.

ted415784....While a lot of what you say is true, remember in 2001 the people who were supposed to be keeping an eye on the terrorists ignored the threat even though they were specifically warned. They blew off the warnings and did nothing about it !

Reverance I agreed with everything up to the point of thinking that Ron Paul is honorable.

Yes, Ron is such a pacifist that the last chance he had to vote on ending the Iraq war he didn't. The first vote he didn't bother to vote and the next vote he voted with the republicans to keep the war going with no end in sight. When you talk one way and vote the other, how are we to believe what Ron says?

Then Ron complains about corporate power in our government and then voted to continue the special tax breaks for the billion dollar oil companies which then gave them more money and therefore more power to influence elections.

Ron Paul even voted to create the huge deficit every-time he voted for the Bush tax cuts. After the war started the republicans even had another round of tax cuts for the richest and Ron voted for that too.

For the people Ron voted against increasing the minimum wage. Are you surprised because once again he voted to enrich the corporations?

Really you trust someone whose very votes put our country into the huge deficit mess we are in?

Bachmann is ... a Christian Fundamentalist. Not a very smart one, but none the less.

Christian fundamentalists are just as violent, skewed, bigoted and unstable as Islamic Fundamentalists --

                                Both are terrorists.

Let me repeat: BOTH are TERRORISTS.

Christians and Muslims have been fighting for thousand of years. We will never be able to stop that.Ron PAul was right when he said that isreal could take care of their own problems and that we would stand beside them in whatever they decided to do.

Ron Paul said the Israelis could take care of their own problems and we'd stand beside them in whatever they decide to do? That's the first sensible thing I've heard him say about this subject. In that case, Israel should consider a preemptive nuclear strike against Iran.

Nomam Exactly ! The Religious Right is just as intolerant as the Muslim Extremists are ! Both are based on hatred and ignorance.

Sadly, I get the impression that she just lost votes out of her fringe by admitting she doesn't hate them.
