Gingrich bombarded by negative mailers in Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa -- When Iowans opened their mailboxes this week, they found a lot of campaign literature criticizing none other than the current front-runner, Newt Gingrich.

With just days to go before the Iowa caucuses, at least five separate direct-mail pieces from the Mitt Romney, Ron Paul and Rick Perry campaigns are floating around the Hawkeye State targeting the former House speaker. In addition, a pro-Romney SuperPAC, Restore Our Future, also has anti-Gingrich literature out.

Newt Gingrich is the “latest flavor of the month,” a letter from Ron Paul to his fellow conservatives says. “This particular flavor, however, will leave a bitter taste, as there are serious problems with his policies and beliefs.”

Obtained by NBC News

Romney’s campaign literature links Gingrich to fellow former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. It shows a distorted black and white version of a TV ad that the two former speakers did together and reads: “When Al Gore needed allies … he turned to his friend Nancy Pelosi to push job-killing climate change legislation. When Pelosi wasn’t enough … They turned to Newt Gingrich.”

Restore Our Future also tries to link Gingrich with Pelosi. “Pelosi and Gingrich: More in common than you think,” a mailer from the PAC says. It accuses Gingrich of co-sponsoring 418 bills with her in Congress and of flip-flopping on a number of issues, including global warming. “When you attend the January 3rd caucus, ask yourself: Who is the consistent conservative who can defeat President Obama? IT’S NOT NEWT GINGRICH,” the double-sided mailer reads.

In another mailer paid for by Restore Our Future, it asks “Why does the Obama machine want to run against Newt Gingrich?” and lists 11 different issues that it says Gingrich has “flip-flopped on” over the years. The front side of the mailer depicts a smiling President Barack Obama holding a newspaper with a faux headline reading “Newt wins Iowa.”

And Texas Gov. Rick Perry took on both Gingrich and Romney in his new mailer, questioning whether conservatives can trust either of the front-runners with their vote. “Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich have abandoned our values and profited at our expense,” the ad reads. “Romney and Gingrich: supported Obamacare mandate. Wrong on abortion. Rich off of America’s misery.”

These anti-Gingrich pieces are just the latest in a slew of attacks on him from his GOP rivals, including attacks on the air in Iowa.

In just a 30-minute period during Friday's nightly news program on a local television channel in the Des Moines market, eight presidential campaign ads ran during commercial breaks. Half the ads that ran were attacking Gingrich (paid for by Restore Our Future, Ron Paul or Rick Perry). The other four were positive ads by the Paul, Romney and Perry campaigns plus one from a pro-Rick Santorum SuperPAC.

Gingrich vows to remain positive in his campaign for the nomination and only hit one opponent: Barack Obama.

I agree Irene. We have to vote and put better people in charge of our House and Senate and keep our current president. We need people who will work for our country instead of for their owner Norquist.

Pretty amazing to see the Romney folks accusing Newt of being a flip-flopper! Gotta laugh at that. Like the pot calling the kettle black. Romney claimed he would be a strong defender of Abortion Rights, an unrelenting advocate of Gay Rights, and a proponent of Gun Control laws when he was running for Senator and Gov. in Mass. Now he has flip flopped on all these. Will the real Mitt Romney please stand up. Mitt is a congenital liar and self-promoter. Nobody know what Mitt stands for because the only thing that matters to Mitt is his own ambition. Mitt could care less about conservative principles. Mitt Romney is a proven LIAR.

You'd think these "Family Value$ Chri$tian$" would be out for blood because Newt Giingrich is running on a child-exploitation platform. I guess most mainstream Chri$tian$ approve of the idea of their five-year-old kids being ordered to scrub toilets at EconoLodge instead of attending school. Go figure. I think Newt is great and all the other Reps are a bunch of F___ing @!$%#s. They can't debate worth a s__t next to Newt. How the hell many times is Ron going to run...does he not get it...he is not going to be president. Michelle, come on, nobody is going to vote for a MILF. Rick, man you are just dumb. Mitt, no wants a used baseball glove as president. The rest are not worth commenting on except I am glad Peewee Herman is out of the race as 999 would have turned out to be 666.

of course the newtster wants to stay positive, you know that old saying "people who live in glass houses shouldnt throw stones". Newt knows if he starts slinging mud that he will be buried by an avalanch, he is the most morally bankrupt man to ever run for the office of president. People keep saying newt is smart, well there's two kinds of smart, there's Einstien smart and then there's Lex Luther type of smart, Newt definately falls into the latter category. After Bush/Cheney looted the teasury handing out bags of cash to their buddies, I dont thnk we can handle another criminal mastermind in the White House. And for those of you stupid enough to be hypnotized by fox's rightwing spin you will deserve everything you get if you elect one of the psychos running for your party's nomination, they are some very dangerous people.

Gringrich is a joke; he doesn't even know where he stands, and this is a scary thought of him becoming President of the United States! The only true candidate up there that is telling the truth and knows what is truthfully going on is Ron Paul. Ron has been warning the American people for years, but the people only have been voting for actors and not a true President and a leader. Ron is the only one that can even come close at beating the globalist Obama. Obama has deceived both the white and black communities and has only sworn an oath to certain big corporations and bankers!

Everyone is bitching and complaining at each other while "Greatest Country in the World" goes to "Hell in a Handbasket". No one is going to take it on the chin for the Greater Good for all with such Divisive Ideaologies. I have yet to see anything that helps the USA get over "The Great Wall Street Ripoff".

And to think most of the unrest and namecalling started with none other than Newt and his disgusting letters recommending everyone to refer to Democrats as lazy, pathetic, anti everything. Think of your Democrat friend which I have many. Do they fit in that category. Not anymore than the republican friends whose only problem now seems that they believe the Gingrich lies and are brainwashed a little too much. And remember a country divided against itself cannot stand. Just for today try to use the values which the republican party has always ran on. Hatred and vitriole and following some nutcase with an agenda are not values.

Newt is a sociopath...by definition, a person without conscious. Read up on his history and you will clearly see this description fits him to a T......met him through his best friend in Atlanta years ago...in the late seventies...they are two peas in a pod: bright, slick, con men to the extreme.

I think they should photocopy a copy of his own letters and brochures to people making the suggestions it sounds like he made and show them exactly what he is like. Mail them to everyone in Iowa and eventually the whole United States. And when voting occurs it is time for the Democrats to be repaid double as stated in the Bible for all the disrespect and false propaganda and lies Fig Newton has caused. It may be fine for him to be the candidate so the inside of the republican party can be laid out and exposed for what ts is. I say let the Democrats win by historical amounts. Even with voter suppression which they try to do. Remember the truth will set us free!

Perry is already toast, but in our local paper today there is an article about how much he is making as a 'public servant': $133,000 per year as Governor of Texas and $7,700 per month from his government pension. Got to love a double dipper who decries government!

Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich have abandoned our values

What values ???? do you mean the 3rd reich values ??

right wingers fascists have been brainwashing americans for way too long, now the masses believe everything they're being told especially all the lies !

The same right wing has ruined the country with the insane military machine that only benefit them and has no benefits to the people. You have used the people's taxes to built the military industrial complex so war has become a business that have made Cheney, halliburton, blackwater rich !! This is why you, right wingers do not want social programs that would benefit all americans, because you want their taxes to run your own agenda... taxes should come back to the people this is why we pay them ! taxes should be used for free college education so the population is educated and should be used for universal health care so you have a healthy population. If those so called socialist programs were in place, the poverty and crime rate would go way down and americans would not be dying on your streets !

Americans need safety nets and this is toward safetey nets their taxes should go !

You americans need to wake up !!! the brainwashing about this socialism's non sense has gone way too far !!

The american dream is just a piece of garbarge, they have been feeding you all your lives !!

Millions of american are living a nightmare !

Oh I see that "poor" flavored Koll-Aid article from yesterday struck a nerve with you. Please, go back and read the stories, THINK about what they are trying to force feed you, and come back. That was nothing short of propaganda to make people "think" they are poor so that they will be convinced the redistribution of wealth of the left is a good thing. Buying votes with the pity party and subsequent mind setting of more sheep.

Just politics as usual I suppose. Lying, back stabbing and paying for the advertising with donations from big business. It takes a special kind of person to be a politician.

Well, almost 100% correct. No member of the organized crime family also known as the Republican party can be trusted in any way, shape or form. The entire party should be rounded up, jailed and have every dime they ever stole from American citizens confiscated.

All of the Republican candidates are pathetic. Most are sick in the head, especially the Newt.

Ron Paul is the only one that, as far as I know, is consistant and is not corrupted. He doesn't need to be corrupted by big business as he thinks their way naturally. Maybe even to far right for big business and the evangelicals.

If Newt is elected President the American people get what they deserve. He is just the man I want in office if I had 300 million dollars and needed to bribe someone (sorry I mean Lobby) to get a bill passed to make my business better. What fools we are as a nation. We are 15 trillion in debt, Have 500 billion+ trade deficit, have 9% unemployment, we don't buy goods made by our own workers, allow or elected to be bribed ( I'm sorry again Lobbied) and to top it all off we will elect the same 2 groups of people in 2012 that WE have allowed to get us into this mess. Once again we get what we deserve!

When I read of modern presidential politics in the news, I am reminded of the PBS series by Ken Burns, The Civil War. Here we have two sides, both American, both dedicated to their country but as utterly and completely divided as possible. The divisions are intentional, not accidental and neither are they even entirely political. The polarization of the nation creates a house divided unto itself and as such, makes it weak and unable to reign in the corruption in Washington.

That we should be so joyful in our little wars against our neighbors, is an absolute delight to all of those on both sides of the aisle. We are rendered inert... and we enjoy the usury.

This is a fine example of the gross distortion of news that MSNBC offers, never happy thoughts, never supportive thoughts, always gotcha moments without benefit, always leftist leaning hard core barack hussein obama, sal alinski, bill ayers oriented material. This company doesn't want solutions, isn't oriented toward America the Great, isn't supportive of ground swelling, grass roots efforts in their elitist ego centric clinging to their guns and religion (whoops, that's what they say about us...Referring to working-class voters in old industrial towns decimated by job losses, the presidential hopeful said: "They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations). Like I said.
