Obama agenda: Upside down

From the AP-GFK poll: “For the first time, the poll found that a majority of adults, 52 percent, said Obama should be voted out of office while 43 percent said he deserves another term. The numbers mark a reversal since last May, when 53 percent said Obama should be re-elected while 43 percent said he didn't deserve four more years.”

But: “For the first time since spring, more said the economy got better in the past month than said it got worse. The president's approval rating on unemployment shifted upward -- from 40 percent in October to 45 percent in the latest poll.”

“President Barack Obama will speak at the 71st General Assembly of the Union for Reform Judaism in Washington on Friday afternoon,” AP writes.

It's weird how President Obama's approval rating goes up and down regardless of anything he actually does. I think the focus of the media on the Republican primary candidates has soften his approval rating. Pretty hard to hear nine people hammering at the President for months on end and not have your opinion affected by them. Then, there are the so-called liberal media people like Chris Matthews, who think it's cute to criticize the President on stylistic points.

Personally, I think President Obama is one of the best presidents we have ever had, and history has proved me right about every one of them since since Nixon!

You think it's bad now wait until he has to stand toe to toe with Mitt Romney and defend his record as President. That 43% is now the Presidents ceiling. And he will continue to collapse as each month rolls by.

Toe to Toe with Romney? Romney collapsed while being interviewed on FOX, for crying out loud. Romney has collapsed during exchanges with such "friendlies" as Rick Perry, Gingrich and Bachmann. I welcome a chance to see Romney debate a Democrat, especially the President, who has made hard choices in office while Romney's been picking tile for his new swimming pool.

Rob after the first Presidential debate you'll see the Presidents approval sky rocket, if not before. The tea people GOP republicans will be down with the Tea people GOP republican congress at 9%.

This article doesn't change the fact that the polls clearly show Obama still trounces all of the GOP's losers. The election isn't in question; Obama will still win. The only question is by how wide a margin.

50 - 50 chance. obamas chances will go down if he continues to lay blame on the right. pretty hard to spin a stalled and then slow economic recovery on the right when the left controlled the house for 4 years and the senate for 6. High unemployment numbers and a sluggish recovery won't help him either.

Add to it the high % of those polled think that America is going in the wrong direction. Speaks volumes on obamas inability to unite the country going forward. Perhaps obama thinks that the real job of POTUS is to campaign for re-election rather than governing.

My observation has been that his ratings go up when he stays out sight and says very little. The go down when he again opens his mouth usually by telling us why whatever just happened is not his fault.

sail -- I am guessing you did not bother to read the whole story. Later in the article is this paragraph:

Despite the soft level of support, many are uncertain whether a Republican president would be a better choice. Asked whom they would support next November, 47 percent of adults favored Obama compared with 46 percent for Romney, a former Massachusetts governor. Against Gingrich, the president holds a solid advantage, receiving 51 percent compared with 42 percent for the former House speaker.

Trounce may be accurate right now with respect to a matchup with Gingrich but a 1 point difference over Romney is anything but.

Take your time, do some research, don't just accept what the folks here an msnbc choose to show as being the entire story.

I read the entire article and I have indeed done research and what I see is a movement by the moderates to move away from the GOP which it perceives as representing the right wing lunatic fringe. Moderates are saying the GOP has abandoned them in favor of ultra-conservatives and christian extremists as exemplified by the now-discredited Tea Party. These middle of the road voters are embracing Obama in increasing numbers as the GOP's field of wannabe candidates looks worse and worse.

Gingrich, the walking time bomb, is presenting himself as the leading candidate even as his numbers shrink against our presidents, while Romney still maintains respectable numbers despite the fact the religious right is saying publicly and privately it will not support a godless Mormon. The Republican Party has painted itself in a corner from which it will not emerge as a winner.

I could post the most recent polls but facts are frequently threatening to those who are still maintaining President Obama is going to lose next November. so let me end by saying the GOP is merely reaping the bitter harvest it has sown and Obama will stride to his reelection on the back of the once-mighty Republican Party. Read 'em and weep.

By July or August of 2012 when gas hits $5.25 and unemployment still sits over 8.5% it will be down to 33% that thinks he deserves reelection.

He is going to get wiped out by Romney. And I will revel in Obama's defeat for the damage he has caused to our great nation.

      Rob in ma, you're silly.

Republican governors have the lowest approval ratings across the country. Republicans in Congress have reached historic lows in approval. Americans don't like the right-wing agenda when they see it in action. Sure, Republicans play well on FOX, where they get to attack the President without being accountable on the facts, but voters see what they do in office, and right wing policies are unpopular.

That's why Romney appears to be the Republicans best hope - he can run on getting universal healthcare using an individual mandate in Massachusetts. But, then, what are they going to hit President Obama on? Obama went Mitt one better and offered RomneyCare to the whole country.

AmyB - it is congress as a whole that has poor ratings. Obamas lack of leadership skills in getting congress to work together and moving forward is doing him no favors.

      Mo...

You seem to forget that Democrats are the majority in the Senate. So what does that say how people feel about Democrats as well? Obama with only 43%? Looks like all that good hope and change didn't do him any good! And now he is flip flopping again on the defense bill...and you liberals like to make fun of the tea party? You should look at your own party!

The election is still a long way off. These poll numbers are going to change daily. I remember in 2008 that McCain and Palin were leading at one point and the tide changed.

So o'bama's gonna scrape his knees for Reform Jews?

Most of us don't even consider Reform Jews as Jewish. In NY they are comprised mostly of liberal, well-to-do, pseudo-intellectual elitists who can't be bothered adhering to the rigors of the faith, most who would disown Israel if it was "trendy." This is a sect that deserves to be ignored by Jews everywhere.

      Feh! He is an anti-semite.

I believ and hope and pray this president is reelected. I too believe he has been the best presient we have had since Ike. The reason is I feel I can trust Obama, I can believe in what he says and why he feels about things the way he does. I feel he is honorable, and truthful. His ego is not in it for his own engrandisement, it is to dowhat he feels is best for America. Republicans keep proving to me they are only in this for the power and glory that power can bring them. Look at what those republican governors have done to the states they won,Scott in Florida, Kasich in Ohio, Walker in Wisconsin, power, power, power, control, control, control and big business is getting all the tax breaks, unions are being demonized to pay fot those tax breaks. It is up to the electorate to take control with our vote and our democracy. We need to become knowledgeable and informed, not just vote but vote with knowledge and reason.
