In a new NBC/Marist poll, Newt Gingrich has surged into the lead in Iowa, but Mitt Romney's big lead in New Hampshire remains. NBC's Mike Viqueira and David Gregory report.
Newt Gingrich’s surge in the polls isn’t limited to just the early presidential-nominating contest of Iowa.
According to new NBC News-Marist polls, the former House speaker has now opened up commanding leads in South Carolina and Florida -- two states that historically have played important roles in deciding the eventual Republican nominee.
Fueled by the support from conservatives and the Tea Party, Gingrich is ahead of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney by nearly 20 points in South Carolina. The winner of that state's primary has gone on to capture each GOP nomination since 1980.
And he leads Romney by double digits in Florida, whose primary ultimately ended up deciding the party’s pick in 2008.
“You can see why the Romney people are getting a little itchy,” said Lee Miringoff, the director of Marist College’s Institute for Public Opinion, referring to the Romney campaign’s recent attacks on Gingrich.
Gingrich ahead “any way you slice it”
In South Carolina, which holds its presidential contest on Jan. 21, Gingrich gets the support of 42 percent of likely primary voters, including those leaning toward a particular candidate. That’s a 35-point jump since October’s NBC-Marist poll of the Palmetto State contest.
Romney gets 23 percent (a five-point drop), and no other Republican candidate registers in double digits. Texas Rep. Ron Paul gets 9 percent, while Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann are tied at 7 percent.
In a field reduced to three candidates in South Carolina, Gingrich gets the support of 48 percent of likely voters, Romney gets 30 percent and Paul gets 12 percent.
In a simple two-way race, Gingrich’s support increases to 57 percent and Romney’s moves to 33 percent.
“It’s a good lead [for Gingrich] any way you slice it,” Miringoff says.

In Florida, which holds its primary on Jan. 31, Gingrich is at 44 percent among likely voters -- a 38-point increase from October. He’s followed by Romney at 29 percent (a four-point decline), Paul at 8 percent and Perry at 4 percent.
In a three-way race in the Sunshine State, it’s Gingrich 51 percent, Romney 31 percent and Paul 10 percent. And in a simple head-to-head contest, it’s Gingrich 54 percent, Romney 36 percent.

Tea Party power
According to the two polls, Gingrich performs especially well among the most conservative primary voters.
Among Tea Party supporters -- who make up about half of all likely primary voters in South Carolina and Florida -- the former House speaker leads Romney by more than 30 percentage points in both states (51-20 percent in South Carolina and 57-22 percent in Florida).
Gingrich also enjoys huge leads among “conservative” and “very conservative” voters.
By comparison, Romney bests Gingrich among liberals and moderates in Florida (39 percent to 29 percent), and essentially ties him among these GOP voters in South Carolina (with Gingrich’s 29 percent to Romney 26 percent).
And Gingrich has the most intense support. In South Carolina, 50 percent of his backers strongly support him, versus 34 percent who strongly support Romney,
In Florida, 60 percent of Gingrich’s backers strongly support him, compared with 38 percent for Romney.
If there’s a silver lining in these polls for Romney, it’s that more than half of Gingrich’s supporters in both states picked the former Massachusetts governor as their second-choice pick. And only a fraction of likely GOP primary voters in South Carolina and Florida view Romney as an unacceptable candidate.
This means Romney could potentially gain more support if his campaign is able to raise doubts about Gingrich, Miringoff says.
Obama’s standing improves in Florida
Turning to the general election, President Obama’s standing has improved in Florida, always a key presidential battleground state.
Forty-six percent of registered voters in the state approve of his job, which is up five points since October.
In hypothetical match-ups, the president leads Romney by seven points (48 to 41 percent) and Gingrich by 12 points (51 to 39 percent).
In South Carolina -- a reliable Republican state in presidential contests -- Obama’s approval rating stands at 44 percent, and he holds narrow leads over Romney (45 to 42 percent) and Gingrich (46 to 42 percent).
The South Carolina survey was conducted Dec. 4-6 of 2,107 total registered voters (with a margin of error of plus-minus 2.1 percentage points) and of 635 likely Republican primary voters (plus-minus 3.9 percentage points).
The Florida poll was conducted Dec. 4-7 of 2,119 total registered voters (with a margin of error of plus-minus 2.1 percentage points) and of 469 likely Republican primary voters (plus-minus 4.5 percentage points).

Amazing. So “tea partiers” are behind a guy who supported the TARP bailouts, received 1.3 million (tax payers money) from Freddie Mac yet failed to warn anyone prior to the housing bubble bursting, advocated the Individual Mandate, is a self-ploclaimed “futurist” and follower of Alvin Toffler, has an anti-Second Amendment voting record and has stated that all gun purchases should require fingerprinting (and of course an Orwellian database), supported federal funding of abortion, and the list goes on.
What has this snake ever been right on? Bashing Obumma? Well anyone can do that! He is a scumbag womanizer who has made a career of living in luxury and amassing debt on other’s tabs. No thanks.
The ONLY people who will vote for Barak in the next election are Socialist/Marxists and idiots. So Abdullah, my guess is that you'll be voting for Obama again, which of the 2 are you?
Want a bet it will well over half of the country will vote for The PRESIDENT.
Don't you just love when people like sssmithlg use words that they don't understand? How foolish.
ssmithlg, you're correct.
Most people with a brain will be voting for Obama.
You know, the guy who took out both Osama bin-Laden AND Gadhafi.
The guy who is ending the 2 GOP fiasco wars-for-profit that combined cost the U.S. a mind boggling $4.4 Trillion dollars so far (src: latest Brown Univ. study) and that we will all spend the next 20 years paying for.
The guy who rescued the U.S. healthcare system from complete collapse.
The guy who has overseen 22 straight months of economic growth.
Yeah, we'll be voting to re-elect President Obama. And nobody in their right mind would vote for the GOP clowns that caused the massive economic meltdown back in 2007.
.
@ssmithlg: Obama a socialist/Marxist?
Name one private enterprise or company that Obama has seized and placed under the control/ownership of the state. You can't because he hasn't.
So take you Fox socialist scare tactics down the road.
US1776 "And nobody in their right mind would vote for the GOP clowns ...."
That's exactly who will vote for the GOP clowns, people with "right" minds ;-)
GOP = Enemy of the American People.
.
If Gingrich, takes Florida, Romney can not stop him from the nomination; I am a supported of Romney, both are brilliant persons, the religious right let Romney's Christian faith swing against him, they have tunnel vision, Romney has a better chance to take the white house .
There's NOT ONE of these GOP clowns that is even electable !!
.
I find it very hard to believe tea partiers are behind Newt. I guess we'll find out soon enough though.
ssmithlg #1.1
I'm betting you collapsed your own post....
Despite the awful history and personality of Newt, true republicans don't want Romney since he's a Mormon. They abhor Obama no matter how far he goes to the right and pleases the bankers, because he's a N**er.
Underneath the covers, repugs are racists all.
I caught something about Newt's; "I had to seek forgiveness from God." comment after being accused of affairs. He delivered the line as if he was stating; "And I had to sit in prison for two years". With zero remorse for having the affairs to begin with. This guy will make Burlesconi look like a Puritan, and Clinton like a doting husband.
I will without reservation be voting for President Obama and democrats down the line in the next election. He deserves re-election, all right wing\tea baggers should be very nervous at this point. The economy is a direct result of their policies that have hurt the middle class and their friends in banks and wall st. are to blame also. I am an American before anything else and a very proud American except when I hear these republicans speak I find it hard to believe that there are people in this nation that would actually vote for any of them. The death of Osama Bin Laden should have given President Obama 100% support from right wingers yet for some reason they cannot bring themselves to congratulate a black man for a job well done.
OBAMA 2012\ DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS 2012
Most self-respecting women won't be voting for Blingrich. That's about half right there....
Gingrich reply last night in the debate:
"I'm an old man ..... it wasn't my fault" lmao
If you want a definition of Tea Bagger its hypocrite! Newt is everything they say they hate except he is white and not a Mormon. Course so is Perry I would have thought he was more their style!
Heck of a job, Southern States.
Y'all want to go back to pre-Reconstruction...nay, pre-Civil War days.
Pathetic.
Cool! Gingrich is our choice. Just dump our wives if they are sick, especially when they get cancer.
How can we redefine hypocrites after he get elected? Can we just call it being political?
Karl Rove has to be pulling his hair out...
Well, what's left of it...
This is so funny that the Republicans would be so desperate as to put this clown up against Obama (who really deserves to be replaced).
It will be a pleasure to see this corrupt hypocrite get his hat handed to him and prove to the world once again that after the disaster of Bush, the republicans are still worthless.
(But we do need a real leader so badly that republican or democrat is irrelevant.)
@Feisty
Probably had to pull his pants down to find some.
Is this the man who wants to do away with medicare, and give grandma a coupon to purchase her own insurance? After grandma has paid into medicare and I've paid into medicare and nearly everyone has paid into medicare, the TP/Gingrich wants to renege on that contract and give them back a little of what they paid and call it good. People, this is entitlements. If you pay for your insurance ahead of time, don't let the company/government renege on the deal and act like Madoff. That is what the GOP/TP/Gingrich wants our government to do. Renege on the deal. It's their character.
Both Gingrich and Palin were/are just gold diggers, trying to make some money off this election.
Gingrich accidentally feel into first place, not for long though I think..........
The answer you all fail to accept is that the mood of republicans and many independents right now is anyone but Obama. PERIOD.
Everything else is secondary. PERIOD.
You're a monster, Newt Gingrich.
Your heart's an empty hole.
Your brain is full of spiders,
You've got garlic in your soul.
Newt Gingrich.
I wouldn't touch you with a thirty-nine and a half foot pole.
There goes the appetite! lol
Any of the GOP candidates would be a one hundred percent improvement on the clown Marxist in office now. Brain dead is the only requirement needed to vote for Obama AGAIN, after the corrupt, inept job he is/has been doing. You don't like 6.8% unemployment, then how does 9-10% unemployment rate, you didn't like 10 trillion in debt, how does 15-16 trillion rate with you? And Obama says that capitalism has NEVER worked when the poor of our country are among the top ten percent of the wealthiest people on the earth. The USSR tried that wealth distribution, and they had a REAL 1% (communist party) of wealthy people, while the 99% had equality out the ying-yang while among the least wealthy of the world.
@Feisty
Raging with two fists full of pubic hair above his head.
DOUBLE POST DELETED
You're a mean one, Newt Gingrich.
You really are a heel.
You're as cuddly as a cactus,
You're as charming as an eel.
Newt Gingrich.
You're a rotten Banana, with a greasy black peel
If the Teapartiers are for Newt, then it shows they vote for whomever has the biggest mouth, tells the biggest lies and has the smallest of character values.
Says a lot about them too. But it makes it easier for the rest of us who admire our President.
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
Awesome, Go Newt! Finally someone with coherant thought and who has an answer. Also balanced the budget, reformed welfare and helped create 10s of millions of jobs through ingenius policy, not through idiotic and useless speeches or class warfare.
You're a rotter, Newt Gingrich.
You're the king of sinful sots.
Your heart's a dead tomato splot
With moldy purple spots,
Newt Gingrich.
Your soul is an apalling dump heap
overflowing with the most disgraceful assortment
of deplorable rubbish imaginable,
Mangled up in tangled up knots.
You nauseate me, Newt Gingrich.
With a nauseaus super-naus.
You're a crooked jerky jockey
And you drive a crooked horse.
Newt Gingrich.
You're a three decker saurkraut and toadstool sandwich
With arsenic sauce.
Da-da-da-da-da-da
da-da-da-da-da-da
Am I the only one who is really enjoying the "Grinch" parodies? Well done, and thanks for the entertainment.
Obama himself said if he cannot turn around the economy and lower unemployment, "this will be a one term proposition." Like Obama or not, history shows that a sitting president CANNOT be re-elected when the economy is in the can. Looks like Gingrich will be the next President.
I beleive reason Romney can't gain traction is that he was pro-choice just a few years ago. Is he really a social conservative or is he just playing one. Once he is in office, cannot hold him accountable and IF there is even a chance he will appoint a liberal Supreme Court Judge, we can't take that chance.
You got it geo. The liberals have hitched their wagons onto a Marxist ideologue. They don't know he's a Marxist because they, themselves have that leaning. Anytime a conservative mentions it, they think it's only a put down. It's not. Obama is a Marxist. Has he taken control over any corporations? Well, of course. Through his actions GM and Chrysler are owned by the United States Government through a proxy of shares. Obama wanted certain people replaced in the companies, and they were fired. He installed his own CEO's. GE is another company Obama controls. Why do you think the main stream media never goes after Obama? It's because GE is the parent company of MSNBC and many other news organizations. Look it up if you don't believe me.
Take a look around liberals... see the changes that are occuring. If you don't think they will impinge on your freedoms, you have another thing coming. Government is starting to swallow us up... and it's all part of the Marxist plan. If Obama gets re-elected, within the next 3 years, our economy will collapse. It's also part of the Marxist plan. Go ahead and laugh... when you are looking through trash for something to eat, remember I warned you. Watch Greece... we are them, only larger.
Scott - funny! And a compliment on your vocabulary and keeping it CLEAN. It's very vivid but you refrained from the profanity, which makes it all the more clever!
On to the topic at hand, for the Obama supporters, don't gripe! If Gingrich gets the nod, it's great news for Obama! Romney has a much better chance with the independent voters and that's the group that is going to carry the general election.
Gingrich is the perfect Tea Party candidate. He has so many skeletons in his closet that it is bulging with bones. His major flaws:
1) Felony draft dodging during the Vietnam War. He had a teacher "friend" falsify enrollment records in order to obtain a student deferrment to which he was not entitled (a felony.) Then he married that teacher under the belief that she could never testify against him in court. (That is not true --- it only meant that she could not be "compelled" to testify.)
2) His inmvolvement as an illegal unregistered lobbyist with Fammie Mae and Freddie Mac. He claims he was paid millions (about $2.8 total) for work as a "historian." Unless he can prove that 100% his "advice" was as a historian, beyond a reasonable doubt, he has committed a felony. Ask Jack Abramoff.
3) Even his ongoing campaign is committing a felony breach of election laws. He is selling copies of his various books in person on the campaign trail. Using campaign donations to make private profit is a felony. And he knows it well since it was the root of several ethics charges when he was Speaker.
4) The issue is his three wives, each married under bizarre circumstances, is well known. He married the first to cover up his draft dodging. But he divorced her, actually serving the papers in what was thought to be her deathbed, saying that she was "too old and not pretty enough to be a President's wife." He was copnducting an affair with wife #2 at the time. He met wife #3 in church and carried on an affair with her while still married to wife #2. But what has not yet been discussed was that a) there were scores of other adulterous affairs, including students when he was a history instructor in a small college, aides, lobbyists (at least two) and many others that will come out Cain-style --- kinda like a slow Chinese water torture.
5) The issue of being a deadbeat dad is also not yet much discussed. He failed to pay child support for two years and only paid when deputies showed up to take him to jail to serve an indefinite sentence for contempt of court. He paid in full by check, indicating that lack of the money was not an issue. He said only that he was philisophically opposed to child support in cases where the custodial parent had the ability to earn a living, even if it put them below the poverty line.
6) He successfully evaded his first wife's hopspital bills with a divorce, forcing her into bankruptcy.
7) And please, let's not forget the 84 ethics charges and several criminal charges that were brought by House Republicans when he was forced to resign as Speaker. All the charges were dropped except for one. This included several counts of felony tax evasion. He was fined $300,000 and agreed to resign as Speaker and Congressman and NEVER RUN FOR ELECTED OFFICE IN THE FUTURE. That last item was "annuled" when Congress was trying to create new ethics rules so that Tom DeLay could remain Speaker and a House member while under indictment. The charge that he was fined for was in trying to get his mistress, Callista, a no-show job with the Department of Agriculture --- influence peddling.
8) He has been a manipulator of campaign funds, a felony. He has consistently funneled personal money to his private use and money from nonb-profit front organizations into both his political and private coffers. These he has openly admitted.
9) The Newtster has a great deal to fear from Nancy Pelosi. She was on the original committee that investigated the legal and ethical charges against him as Speaker. And she has been the custodian of the documents from that investigation since then. She has hinted that the actual were onbly the tip of the iceberg and that the committee uncovered many, many other punishable crimes, but that after 85 had been validated, there was little sense in going on.
10) With all the controversy that swirled around Newt as Speaker, he was committing these ethics, legal, and political crimes all the while being one of the leaders of the Clinton impeachment proceedings.
What is the worst thing of all is that Newt is probably the best that the neo-cons can do. I completely agree with Perry on Newt, If you'll cheat on your wife, you will cheat on your business partner and if you'll cheat on your business partner, you'll cheat on the people who elected you.
And he is literally sucking the air out of the GOP room. Romney is essentially unelectable because the religious right will not allow a non-Christian, even one where the label is somewhat technical, to become President. Pulpits in the South are already bemoaning that two Moromons are actually running for President. Presidential elections are usually won by thin margins. Just this one "problem" alone is enough to defeat Romney. It is okay to be a self-professed but unaffiliated and unbaptized "christian" such as Reagan, but Romney might as well be a Hare Krishna campaigning in orange robes and a hair plait as far as the religious right, who are much more prominent in Red States, are concerned.
The Democrats will appily campaign against either Romney or Gingrich. But Republicans are already calling Newt the "Gingrich That Stole Christmas." No candidate who has had a significant campaign within his own party to dump him has ever won a Presidential election. This could easily be a replay of the Obama/McCain campaign when McCain led for exactly 4 days out of the entire campaign. (That 4 days were after he announced Palin as his VP running mate and before anyone knew anything about her.
You Southern evangelicals defy what you claim to stand for.
Ahh... Yesss!!!!!! Sweet easy victory for the people in the upcoming 2012 presidential elections! Right after the Rethugglicants gave us 8 years of the Dumbest, worst President in the history not only of the United States of America but for the whole world; They came back in a much evil form than ever before calling themselves Tea Baggers, bringing to us the worst Congress in history, now they want to make “Newt who should be Neuter, Grinch Witch and... Calista! Really, is there no shame or brains in any of you guys?
Thank Thedore Geisel (Dr. Suess). It's like he had old Newt in mind when he wrote it.
Newt = Reptile
He blasted Democrats for taking money from mortgage giant Freddie Mac — while he was paid $25,000 a month by the same company. Freddie Mac paid 1.6 Million to Newt just before the housing market crisis. One of the greatest scandals of our time quotes the “National Review”
$37 million for Newt from Major Health Care Co.’s that support Individual Mandated Obama Health Care. Yet the Newt says he is against Obama’s Health Care Plan.
He castigated then-President Clinton for his affair with a White House intern while he himself was having an extra marital affair with a Congressional staffer. Let’s see 3 wives / 2 affairs - that we know about)- while leading an attempt to impeach President Clinton. What a hypocrite!
He lacks compassion for the less fortunate among us. He’s proposed cutting off aid to single mothers and sending their children to orphanages. Last month, he called child labor laws “truly stupid” and said poor children should earn money cleaning bathrooms; the Occupy WS protesters should get a bath and a job even though they can’t find jobs thanks to Bush and the GOP.
Everything that Newt railed against while he was in the house when out - he went the other way once he was paid to go the other way his lack of ethics is no secret. His colleagues in the House of Representatives voted 395-28 to fine him $300,000 for ethics violations and for lying to them — the first time in history the House disciplined its own Speaker for ethical wrongdoing.
Talk about serial hypocrisy It would be an understatement to say that Newt Gingrich is a demagogue and the ultimate Washington insider. But then is it any wonder the Conservatives like him but then again what do you expect from a Conservative.
The liberals are confused as to why conservatives don't want Mitt. They, of course, take the low lying fruit and say we are against his religion. Leave it to liberals to not understand that isn't the reason. Mitt isn't a conservative, period. He's plastic. He bends, twists, conforms, easily molded and he changes like play dough. He's not solid on smaller government, keeping taxes low, and he supports universal health care, even though he denies it. His past proves it. He may have a large smile and shows his teeth all pretty like in photographs, but what's behind those teeth is what really matters.
The liberals would love to see an Obama/Romney match up. They know that the conservatives would hate to pull the lever on Mitt in the voting booth. In fact they are counting on it... they figure conservatives wouldn't even bother to vote.
Now, Gingrich... the liberals fear. They are trying to throw up all sorts of comedic roadblocks, they make fun of him and they are trying to bring up Newt's past as if he were the worst person on the planet. Newt's not perfect... but I trust his judgement. I trust that he is for smaller government. I trust that he will do the right thing when called upon... he won't put things on hold because he has an appointment to play the back nine, or shoot some hoops.
It would be quite interesting to see Newt get in the White House. I'd make a bet that businesses would start moving again... unlike under Obama where they are afraid to expand, grow, or hire.
Lets start out by stating a prediction....if Obama wins re-election, we will all quickly realize who this guy really is. It is clear that we have not yet learned as he has only campaigned since taking office. Obama wants a new world order as shown by his socialist healthcare program, his government control of GM, his control of banks forcing them to take loans, his attempt at bring down gun ownership thus killing Americans and untold Mexicans with his fast and furious scam, his redistribution of borrowed money from China to the wealthy buddies who paid to get him in office, his commitment to UN gun control treaty, etc.
It is time we worry about our country and its citizens standard of living. This country has done more than any country in the world to assist its needy people. King Obama's vision is a big raise for you folks, thus ensuring his re-election. If he does win, watch how quickly your hand-outs diminish as they can not be sustained and China will not loan us much more money.
Obama is not a Democrat, he is a socialist with views of a new world order. He has done more to divide our country and erase many years of black / white relations. He will not be remembered will in the history books, unless he has his staff proof read these.
Dasvet:
You are a prime example, of what the FOX noise rhetoric, does to the illiterate and ignorant. Trying reading something, besides Sponge Bob, that is if you can actually read. What has any of these, Republican candidates ever done, that one would consider, a leadership role? How many of the GOP"candidates" have ever endured the nastiest, rudest, egotistical Right, like President Obama? How many GOP "candidates" have gone through the scrutiny of proving their birth rite? How many of these "candidates have ever come from poverty and hunger? How many of the "candidates" have worked, to put themselves through school? How many of these "candidates" have had to listen to racial slurs and havearmed men, at their political rallies?
I have family in the south. They are intelligent, kind-hearted, giving people, who want our country to succeed. You sir, are an embrassment to the South and the United States.
Dasvet: You are a hateful spewing bigot. You would rather see one of these GOP "Candidates" from the Peanut Gallery, elected to the presidency, than a decent, hard working, intelligent man, like President Obama.
President Obama wants all Americans, to have a fair chance for a decent life. He wants our children to receive food, safety and a proper education.
Dasvet: If you want to see the ruination of this country, go ahead, and elect one of those "straw men/woman" for President. You will rue the day, you placed an X next to, anyone of their names.
I am proud of President Obama and I want him to continue to run this country, without the Republicans continuing, to sabotage his efforts. He is the only hope, the middle class has, for a future, that will improve our quality of life; increase our living wage and ensure a decent future, for our children.
DSmith-1497218
Obama is no socialist. But you know who was? Francis Bellamy, You know, the guy who wrote the Pledge of Allegiance. You know who else was? Woody Guthrie, the guy who wrote This Land is Your Land.
So the next time you recite "Liberty and Justice for All", or sing "This land was made for you and me", I hope you realize what you are saying.
Did anyone else watch the ABC Republican debate and think how incredibly out of touch these right wing ego maniacs are? it's all about them, it's not about the American people, the environment. our fading schools, our diminished manufacturing base, the challenge of caring for all those aging baby boomers.
I liked Ron Paul the best, but even he is more in love with ideology than the reality of where we are. The pundits who commented after the debate also seem blind to the needs of governing this country - they just focus on which candidate is the most verbally entertaining. WHAT ABOUT AMERICA?
The Republican party is confused.
Well, they are not confused on one thing: Their primary objective is to remove the commie, socialist, Kenyan anti-colonial muslim, gay loving, Israel hating, Christmas killing half-black man that is destroying the country.
Other than that, the Republican/Bagger party cannot agree on a viable candidate from the right. The logical choice, to achieve the goal stated above, is to nominate Romney.
However, the Rebpublican party is infested with religious fundamentalists that demand a Christian. Mormons are Christians, but the old folks need someone more like themselves.
The Republican party does not care about the future of the country. Instead, they want their country back.
I would say, they want their country back to say, the post-war 1950's. You know, when darkies still knew their place in the community.
You know, when women were not so uppity.
And you know, the time when "the love you dare not speak of" was in place.
Basically, the Republican party is nostalgic, and just can't catch up with the changes that happen in the world.
Like the Taliban, the Republicans are consilidating, and fighting to keep their guns, their holy books of mythology, and their bigotry in the political limelight.
Amy, the GOP does not care about America. It's all about money and power. And their love of the 19th century. They seem to want to go back to the mid 1800's on social issues, and the turn of the 19th/20th century of the days of the old Robber Barons. I have described them in the past like the old Know Nothings, and as they days progress, I see no reason to change my opinion of them. Too much Fox News, I guess.
Jake Reyna - comment 1.6 - I can't understand why you were collapsed by the community. I hope your point wasn't beyond people's reasoning abilities.
Amy - and you think Obama is all about America? If he's so for America, how come he's been campaigning for 3 years? If he's campaigning, who's he campaigning for? Us? It's amazing how you totally ignore who you support while paying so much attention to those you don't.
Scott: the story of Francis Bellamy is my favorite to tell the right wingers as they are screaming about the Pledge of Allegiance. Somehow, it makes them annoyed! ; ) I can't decide which delights me more, that a Christian Socialist wrote it, or that he wrote it as an advertising jingle for a magazine.
Brianb: it never ceases to amaze me how you have no idea what you are talking about. Did you ever figure out that your President Obama took the oath of office when he was a Senator on his own Bible? Or do you still like the neanderthal version of that happy occasion?
Brianb-999431
President Obama made tough decisions, like spending stimulus money to keep teachers, cops and firefighters employed - how quickly you forget the crisis states were faced with until Obama released federal money to keep people employed.
phenolphthalein - I'll ask you if you believe Obama is all for the American people. Considering that he has been campaigning for 3 years how could he be for anyone but himself? You so easily state that the GOP candidates are not for this country while totally ignoring the fact that Obama, the Marxist narcissist doesn't have America's best interest at heart.
Have you taken a close look at the GOP candidates, other than what your liberal sources tell you? I would say you aren't even interested in doing so. All you do is get on here and deride them because they don't support your ::cough:: progressive ideology.
Go ahead and say I bore you... that's your usual cop out. You are so uninformed about the reality that Obama has created in this country and you so blindly support him, you don't care what's going to happen under his hand. Have you even compared his actions to those of a Marxist? Not in the least, because you can't fathom the fact that you may be wrong about him. Keep those blinders on dear... and when you lose your social security and when you are left holding the bag, literally, don't say I didn't warn you... but then it will be too late.
UnitedStates1776
ROTFLMAO!!!!!
The CIA obtained the initial intelligence it needed to find Bin Laden from Khalid Sheikh Mohammed — the so-called mastermind of 9/11 — and his successor, Abu Faraj al-Libi at CIA black sites in Poland and Romania. There, the detainees identified a courier who would years later be located by American intelligence officials, and lead them to bin Laden’s compound. Thank you President Bush
Pssst, Barrack didn’t take Gadhafi out, NATO did. Remember, Barrack was leading left behind,,,,errr I mean, from behind.
Hmmmm, it’s amazing how the Liberal Loonies can find some fabricated “guesstimated” nonsense from some obscure Liberal University built around typical projections into the distant future.
I myself prefer the Congressional Research Service’s evaluation, that the government loving Liberals so worship, to throw back in their face.
From the March 29, 2011 report:
Nice try on the Liberal hypocrisy though.
Which will be found unconstitutional now that the Supreme Court has finally agreed to review it? Not to mention its funding continues to collapse. The CLASS Act, a long term disability insurance plan, has recently been discredited as the funding instrument it was intended to be.
Since the Obama administration was depending on premiums for CLASS to help balance the books, the program's demise has blown an $80 billion hole in the deficit. CLASS was widely regarded as a gimmick to try to mask the true cost of Obamacare. I guess Obama will just print some more money to fund this little deficit, as usual.
Real disposable income "averaged 4.5% annual growth in the 1960's, 3.7% in the 1970's, about 3% in the '80's and '90's and only 2.5% last decade. This year income growth is just over 1 percent, as the economy has stalled out.
Yeah, I guess the pathetic Liberals will grasp at any straws to make poor clueless Barrack look good. I’m sure the Libbies consider 1% growth a windfall after 3 years of Obamanomics.
Don’t you?
Liberals, so easy.
ABO (Anybody But Obama) 2012
Amy: I laugh every time I read poor Brian's posts. He supports the very people who managed to practically destroy America in 8 years. Good work, Brian!
And then he blames the guy who is trying to clean up the mess, and is upset that it can't be done over night.
Incredible.
Amy - that didn't fix the problem. It only put a bandaid on it. That money is dried up. Local municipalities are in the same boat today as they were before the stimulus money was given. Our local city employees are forced into taking furloughs right now. The money from the federal government has dried up and they are left with no choice.
Property taxes have fallen as the valuation of land and dwellings has fallen. Revenues are down.
How did what Obama do help the problem? It only delayed the inevitable outcome. Things are not improving, they are getting worse. Property values have not stabilized and are still falling. Foreclosures are still rampant. People are struggling to pay their bills... because the root problem hasn't been solved yet.
So here is a a fact for you regarding what will be a Gingrich Republican nominee for President. The last two Republican Presidential nominees will have both dumped their wives while the ladies were ill. Great factoid don't you think. Something to be proud of. NOT! Till death, ooops! I mean illness, do us part!
newday - I'm glad you find entertainment in my posts. Unfortunately for you, you don't see the reality in what I say. You are so blinded by Obama's glowing Marxism that you are in love with his methods and plan.
I have no other choice but to find hope in the GOP. The democrats don't have the answers. Obama needs to be replaced, but you don't see it. I guess living under a rock has it's advantages... it helps shut out the truth of what is going on in this country. Keep on blaming the GOP for the last 8 years??? Sounds to me like you are stuck in a time warp... since three of those last 8 years have been Obama all the way. But if you were referring to the 8 years of Bush, don't ever forget that in 06 Congress was replaced by democrats... and prior to that the economy was doing pretty good. Live in your fantasy land... I guess it helps keep your insanity alive and well.
Rasmussen reports Obama is a -20 today... guess he's not doing that well in the polls... at least the polls that matter.
Brian,
When the stimulus package was put together no one knew that the recession was as deep as it has determined to be. The idea was to just help people keep their jobs while the recovery got moving (the real purpose of stimulus). However, as it turned out, because of the depth of the recession, the drop in GDP we now know it will be years, not months for recovery.
Two years of stimulus was not enough, as some economists said early on. If it were, the reduction in state workers and teachers would have been far less.
How will Newt refill the community coffers, and raise property values? How will he turn everything around how will solve the root problem? What is the root Problem? How will Newt get to the root?
And now Brianb: what did President Obama take his oath of office on when he was sworn in as Senator? (Jeopardy music playing.)
Hiya Forrest! Hope all is well with you and Mrs. Grump!
Amy - your indignation is false. Men and women have fallings out all the time... just because you know some of the information doesn't mean you know all of it. Besides, you being a liberal, it would be hypocritical of you to even care about such things. You support abortions, open marriages, no marriage at all, and a slew of other things that fall in line with liberal thinking... or are you going to tell me that you are only a partial liberal?
Anybody who knows the history of the Lincoln Douglas Debates will appreciate this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BQ6I4bdzGQ&feature=relatec
Gingrich would peel Obama open like a tin can
If Newt is the best the GOP has to offer I won't be voting for President. I'll leave it blank or for Ron Paul if he is on the ballot. I don't like anything about Newt & all Obama has done is follow in Bush's footsteps doing the same things Bush started except for the universal healthcare & that is not going to make it past the SCOTUS. I don't know of a single thing Obama has accomplished while president.
Forrest - the simple answer to that question is - How will Obama? Sorry for answering your question with a question, but yours was rethorical, eh?
newday - he took his oath while holding his hand over a Bible. Now are you satisfied?
Ah, so you are educable Brian. So nice to know that. Perhaps we can teach you other, more complex things as your mind becomes used to learning real facts.
It was Keith Ellison, from MN's Fifth District that took his oath on the Koran.
Which signifies nothing. The Constitution prohibits any sort of religious test for public service.
We in MN are very proud of Keith and grateful for his service.
No president can pass a budget or pass legislation only Congress can do that and this Congress has done nothing, Obama has accomplished quite a lot as CIC because he does not need to depend on republicans in Congress to do what needs to be done. Republicans will have to mock themselves to vote for Newt who represents everything they have claimed they are against, they will have to commit mass flip flop. The very people who try to claim the high ground on principles will have to publicly abandon many if not all their stated principles to defend and then vote for Newt.
My questions were not meant to be rhetorical, you are promoting Newt, I really wanted to know what you thought he would do for America, and how he would do it, other than just not be a democrat named Obama.
@ brianb
Brian, what is Marxism? Please elaborate. But, really, wouldn't you be better off spending your time thinking about the amazingly complex game of football?
Ah, hyprocrisy, thy name is today's GOP. They have nothing to offer but the same old policies they have been suggesting for over a century. And now, they will turn themselves inside out to elect (this from the party of family values) a man with the morals of an ally cat - who hold more different positions on one issue than anyone I know - except of course, for Mitt. They are the party of the "Christian" right, that doesn't follow the teachings of the fellow that tried to teach the world about those same values. Sad.
One thing i never hear people comment on is the economic record for Newt. People on here all the time bring up the balanced budget under Clinton. The house that passed those bills was Republican controlled under the leadership of speaker Newt Gingrich. That was the LOWEST SPENDING TO GDP we have had in the last 40 years.
I'm not his number one cheer leader by any means. He was a womanizer as was Clinton.
The only issue i will vote for in this election is fiscal discipline. Our debt and deficit is almost to the point we can't pay it back which will kill our economy and effect national security. I see Newt's fiscal record working with a Dem president.......balanced budget. I see Obama's fiscal record under a full Dem govt, some of it veto proof. There is nothing even remotely resembling fiscal discipline in this administration. Between the 2 i would have to hold my nose and vote for the Newtster.
brianb, do you actually even know what marxism is? or are you just blindly parroting bullspit?
(the latter sounds far more accurate)
Scott & Newday ..
May I also add, "Under God" wasn't in the original? That was added under pressure from the Knights of Columbus during the McCarthyism era. You know, we had to fight those "godless Commies".
Forrest you are correct about only congress can pass bills. The Dems had congress since 2006 elections, before mortgage meltdown, for four years until this year. Exactly what did they do since 2006 elections that was good for the economy?
Dennis,
Good morning I hope all is well with you. I take exception to your view of the stimulus package. The money was not well spent and there was a lot of waste. I believe about 30% of the stimulus was in tax incentives. A lot of the money was wasted on pork barrel projects that individual members of congress put in for their own districts. I believe there is still money left in the stimulus package and if so that money should be put back in the treasury and used to pay down the debt.
As for the States and teachers, it is not the federal government's responsibility to pay for state, local or school district employees. States have the power to raise taxes and if the people need additional state workers and teachers they would raise the revenue to pay for them.
We have been through recessions before, maybe not quite as deep, and we will come out of this one but just throwing more money after more money will not get the job done. I have yet to see any members of Obama's administration or either party bring up the subject of revising the tax code or reviewing government programs that the GAO has noted billions of dollars in waste, fraud, and duplicate programs. Extending the payroll tax has not really helped and I think it should be allowed to go back to the rate it was prior to this reduction, it is only adding to the deficit. I also think the Bush/Obama tax cuts should be allowed to expire at the end of next year. I do not consider either being tax increases but returning to normal rates as the laws intended.
Now back to my football, hope you have a good day Dennis.
MY GOSH!!! The same old crap falling off the fingers of liberals. It's all blame blame blame... blame the GOP. There are two parties that run this government. Why MUST you channel all the blame into the one you don't support. Do you realize how stupid that is? What ever happened to reason? It's the same old policies of the GOP... well what about the policies of the democrats? Do you think they are solving anything at all? There's a BIG resounding NO to that answer. Geeez... don't you people ever think? The government as a whole is to blame for the problems we face. There are individuals to blame... and it's not just a party. Bohner is a weak, blowhard. Obama is a Marxist, Harry Reid is a jerk, and the rest of the democrats and republicans are idiots! It's NOT just one party... it's both of them!!! They refuse to work together... they aren't solving anything... they ALL need to go for the sake of this country!
Thank you New Day, we are very saddened at the passing of Mrs. Grump's father, I feel very bad that there is very little I can do to immediately ease her grief. I start a six week series of cancer treatments next week, I look forward to getting those behind me. The only good news I have is that I will definitely be going to Washington DC at the end of January to start my work for the international office of my union, which I consider to be one of the biggest honor and privileges of my life, and certainly of my career. I am amazed and flattered that my efforts in the area of my technical expertise would be recognized and utilized on such a grand scale. I don't even have the words to describe how fully I intend to throw myself into that work. I have a chance to make a positive impact and contribution on a national basis, and I owe all the members that came before me and all the young members after me the very best I can give them. I can't wait to get started, and yet I feel a little nervous, I hope my efforts will justify their confidence in me.
Well, by process of elimination, somebody has to win the GOP nomination.
Conservative Republicans don't trust Romney.
They won't even look at Huntsman
Cain appeared to be suffering from the early stages of dementia, and is now gone.
Perry, is probably the only person Cain could beat in a game of chess.
Bachmann is a scary ideologue, and the more sane conservatives realize that nobody to the left of Attila the Hun will vote for her next November.
Ron Paul, runs every 4 years, says somethings that make sense, others which seem like something right out of Alice and Wonderland, and will never be the Republican nominee.
...so as Sherlock Holmes supposedly said, "Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.", therefore, Newt Gingrich, ethical warts and all, is your candidate.
Exactly Brian. Dems have controlled the senate for the last 5 years. FIVE YEARS. And the house for 4 of the last 5 years, yet all our woes are due to the R's. Obama could declare martial law and come take half of everyone's food and you would come here and there would be post after post .."darn republicans".
Danwill I do know what Marxism is. Here's a concise definition:
Marxism is summed up in the Encarta Reference Library as “a theory in which class struggle is a central element in the analysis of social change in Western societies.” Marxism is the antithesis of capitalism which is defined by Encarta as “an economic system based on the private ownership of the means of production and distribution of goods, characterized by a free competitive market and motivation by profit.” Marxism is the system of socialism of which the dominant feature is public ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange.
The most predominant meaning as it relates to Obama is the antithesis of capitalism.
Forrest Grump 2.0
Hmmmm, so not passing a budget for 945 days is somehow the Republicans fault, right?
You realize that the Republicans only control 1/2 of 1/3 of our government, right?
You realize the Republicans have only been in control of the House for 342 days, right?
You realize a president MUST propose a budget, right? Unfortunately for Barrack he has purposefully submitted unpassable legislation even when his party controlled both Houses. This is an embarrassment.
You realize that anyone, even the minority party, can propose legislation, right? Where is the Democrats debate in the Senate? Where is their committee formation to allow for debate and then compromise to send back to the House?
Republicans submitted 5 (FIVE) different plans. Hairy Reeds "compromise" was "Dead On Arrival" or "Table it"! Cowardice is typical for Democrats, but making it so blatant must be embarrassing, isn't it?
Barrack created the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform (Bowles Simpson) and ignored it. He created the "Gang of Six" and once again, ignored it.
Then one of his greatest embarrassments was when the Democrat's refused to present any written compromises during the Debt Ceiling debate and caused our first ever Credit Rating downgrade.
Not to be outdone, Barrack creates the "Stupid
SuperCommittee" and AGAIN, totally ignores it as it collapses on itself because of lack of any leadership as he was out promoting his failed "Jobs Bill" that he begged to "Pass it now".There are 20 (TWENTY) Jobs Bill proposals sitting on Hairy Reeds desk, where is his responsibility to address that legislation? Hyocrisy runs deep in the Liberal mind apparently.
So Grumpie, how much more shame can this incompetent president inflict on our great Republic?
I guess you Libbies are used to failure.
Forrest - Congrats on the position! I know you will do just fine. Your heart is in the right place. I believe your passion for what you do will serve you well. Condolences to Mrs. Gump. Good luck on the treatment.
My point is, and you obviously accept it, that it is ridiculous to blame one man, the president for all our problems, especially when that man far out performed the previous president in matters of the military as CIC, because he did not have to depend on Congress to enact many of his decisions. We were not attacked on his watch, and he did what the previous president could not, he got the guy responsible for the attack. When he is not at the mercy of Congress this man is very effective at protecting America, not destroying it.
Gee, so many of you are going to vote for Obama. What exactly is it that you like about having him in the Whitehouse....not having a job, $4.00 gasoline, tax increases, out of control spending,......?
Thank You Very Much Brianb, I intend to do my very best.
Dear Forrest:
Please convey my deepest sympathy to Mrs. Grump. I know well the pain of losing a parent, and I can imagine her grief.
I hope your treatments go well, I am sure that they will, and you will be hale and hearty in no time.
Good luck on the new position. They are lucky to have you.
Beth: You may indeed remind us of that fact. The family of Francis Bellamy said he would have rejected the addition of those words, "Under God" to his Pledge.
And nowhere in the Founder's writings or in the Constitution itself, do we find reference to the necessity of a loyalty oath.
I never say it. Two of my cherubs darn near got expelled for refusing to say it. They were the ones that got me reading on this issue.
Chris 749391
Every one of your 10 points was born out of a liberal think tank.
#1 is unprovable and wrests from taking some documents, and some potential posibilites for something and calling "the truth"
#2 You would think that one could find a link where Gingrich actually giving dates and times that Gingrich actually wined and dined with politicians as a lobbyist. As for burden of proof of what you say he did - you have to have proof first that he actually acted as a lobbyist.
#3 Newt was under contract to go to the book signing - which is not a felony. Those were arranged were arranged before he declared his candidacy. If he does not go, it would be a breach of contract. This an unbelievable poor charge because Obama, Hillary and others did exactly the same thing. http://degreesofmoderation.blogspot.com/2011/12/gingrich-book-tours-on-campaign-trail.html
Probably the most despicable of the ten in #4. http://www.factcheck.org/2011/12/the-gingrich-divorce-myth/ and I suggest you talk personally with the former Mrs Gingrich about this.
Look, Gingrich admits his past infidelity, and has not done so with this wife. You are assuming those cheated on are totally innocent. That shows you have no understanding of why infidelity does take place. And what does some people care when just accusing helps them accomplish their goal of creating negative associations with people an names?
5) About every divorce ends up with support disputes etc. often over visitation rights. Seeing those who were involved in the matter are at peace about the matter - DEAD ISSUE.
6) Dude - she made the bills after THEY filed for divorce. He doesn't have to pay, nor is she saying anything about it. This is creative issue by taking facts and adding color to it of your own choice.
7) 85 charges - 84 dumped for lack of evidence
Charge 84 was over Gingerich teaching a history course at a university. The charge was over content and him being paid. What he signed of on was the argument that had as much evidence for as against. Gingrich was teaching a History Course at a college (he holds a PHd in History). The problem with teaching this course is that no matter what you do, you will talk about politics. Further a politcal agenda is okay for a professor, but not for congressmen - it is considered an ethics violation. Foes argued he was using the course to further his political agenda. This is a no-win situation. Gingerich agreed to that charge and penalty BECUASE he had been evasive enough to be accused of lying. Both the committee and he agreed that he had been less than truthful about the content of the course he was teach.
The second charge in the last was about his payment for teaching the course - that he was a tax evader. The ethics committee left this charge to the IRS to decide if he had misreported the monies. Smart move by the committee - the IRS ruled that Gingrich had reported the money appropriately.
8) This is one of the 84 charges dismissed for lack of evidence
9) This is one of the 84 charges dismissed for lack of evidence
10) more muck-raking
DB Akin,
Long, and very false post. You are entitled to your opinion but not your own facts. Republicans wanted him to resign and in return they dumped 84 counts in return for three remaining being combined into one for his resignation and a $300,000 fine. Can't wait for the release all the information on these hearings. Can't wait for Newt to fight that release of info. I so hope he is your nominee though so you keep posting the garbage. Some Repubicans will fall for it.
I wish that the same levels of scrutiny that the press is shining on the GOP candidates had been shown on Obama in '08. Obama appeared out of essentially nowhere, and suddenly he's the democratic presidential candidate. Note that had Hillary not tossed in the towel (more odd goings on that were never fully explained) there is a very good chance that we'd have our first ever female president. Obama is not the primo fellow, his resume is thin and the thing that got him going was the political machine running overtime to bolster and create the "Obama Brand." Hell, how many presidents have had dolls made in their image? How many presidential candidates had their own special logos and posters? Obama was a marketing creation, a Madison Avenue product, given away on the Oprah show along with small cars and gift bags.
As long as we are 'wishing mygirl - I wish you would pull your head out from between your cheeks and think for yourself for a change...
You sound like a trained parrot with your nonsense!
I wish that the same levels of scrutiny that the press is shining on the GOP candidates had been shown on Obama in '08.
The GOP was too busy worrying about Obama's birth certificate, lusting after Palin and trashing Hillary in 2008.
Thank You New Day.

The best thing about Obama v. Gingrich, should it come to that, will be that even the most negative, outrageous campaign ads will probably all be largely true. "Gingrich is a serial adulterer, ethics violator, tool of the moneyed interests, and hatcher of inummerable half-baked schemes, always engaging mouth before brain." True. "Obama is a leftist friend to big government wealth-redistribution schemes who has always arranged big government-contract paybacks for his leading donors, and never met a campaign promise that he couldn't break, such as public-option health insurance, closing Guantanamo Bay, trying terroist suspects, and reducing defense speding." True. Should be an interesting campaign.
What do you do when your back is against the wall and the back-bone of your Party has walked away to await better times? You grab the most obnoxious and ugliest bastard to throw in the ring. He'll get the most attention and the best chance of pulling a rabbit out of his hat. Who cares if the rabbit looks more like a gerbil pulled from a place where you would likely find skid-marks instead of a hat?
You don't stand a chance with the Mormon. You've already sold your soul to the Christian Right that would rather stay home as support a heathen like Romney. Now, you're forced to support a scoundrel that was excommunicated by his own party just a few years ago. Gingrich kisses butt with the Tea Party. Your lustful courtship of the Tea Party bought you a few seats in the 2010 elections. You have backed yourselves into a corner where 2020, not 2016 may be your only chance for redemption. Admit it. You may very well face extinction by then.
Listen people, we have only one choice in this election. We either go bankrupt or not. If we elect anyone other than Ron Paul. This country will no longer be a free country. The rest of the world will own us, because of our debt. It doesn't matter if you are christian or black or white or what your views are. What matters is, "Do you want to be an American?". America is done if you don't vote Ron Paul. We must not go bankrupt!
STUPID GINGRICH... AND MORE ARE HIS SUPPORTERS. Wake UP People !!!! Adulterer in the White House.
Anna - you are well short of the whole truth
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/govt/leadership/stories/101198.htm
Again, the charges were dropped - all of them, except those he agreed to - and those well, shown later he would have beaten except the being less than truthful (lying) about the content of the course he was teaching.
I like Gingrich better than I like Romney. At least Gingrich will speak for himself from time to time. Romney is an owned puppet.
Since 1900? All of 'em.
Feisty: So, unless the party line is your line it is invalid, only those who love obama are posessed of clear insight, right? Boy, glad to know that. And you voice your opinions soooo rudely, castigate and insult those disagreeing with you with such venom that one would be inclined to think that perhaps rudeness, bad manners and vitriol are hallmarks of those who support obama. Either that or perhaps bad manners and rudeness are indicators of a deep-seated insecurity.
Jari: there have been several adulterers in the WH. JFK and Clinton come to mind.
Brian B:
You define Marxism as follows:
Marxism is summed up in the Encarta Reference Library as “a theory in which class struggle is a central element in the analysis of social change in Western societies.” Marxism is the antithesis of capitalism which is defined by Encarta as “an economic system based on the private ownership of the means of production and distribution of goods, characterized by a free competitive market and motivation by profit.” Marxism is the system of socialism of which the dominant feature is public ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange.
The most predominant meaning as it relates to Obama is the antithesis of capitalism.
For further note, when you quote a dictionary, the usual practice is to use the dictionary's definition. For some reason, you call Marxism "the antithesis of Capitalism", which does not actually appear in the definition. Additionally, your presentation is nonsensical, because most economies have some sort of mix of government and private control of production. That would be impossible if the concepts were truly antithetical. Third, In no case has policy proposed by Obama resulted in government taking over the means of production and eliminated the profit motive.
Your posts led me to leave you with an additional definition from Merriam Webster
McCarthyism--a mid-20th century political attitude characterized chiefly by opposition to elements held to be subversive and by the use of tactics involving personal attacks on individuals by means of widely publicized indiscriminate allegations especially on the basis of unsubstantiated charges;
DBAkron:
The vote concerning Newt's ethics violations was 395 to 28.
During this period, the House had a Republican Majority, 228 to 206.
That means that 167 REPUBLICANS in the House of Representations examined the evidence against Gingrich, and deemed it sufficient to discipline Gingrich, for the FIRST time in the history of the House.
At that time, Gingrich agreed never to run again for federal office, but was exempted when rules were changed in an attempt to retain Tom DeLay. He was so completely discredited that any further censure would only be seen as unnecessary. Little would the 167 Republicans know that Gincrich would ever be shameless enough to actually try to run for office again.
If he is a Conservative, he is my type of Conservative:
As speaker, he was for quasi-public lending:
"Fannie Mae is an excellent example of a former government institution fulfilling its mandate while functioning in the marketplace."
He endorsed a national educational curriculum.
He went on TV with Nancy Pelosi pressing a response to Global Climate Change.
He not only endorsed, he proposed a single-payer healthcare system.
He supported term limits, wait, he later did not.
$10,000 bet at my best earning year there in Iowa that would have been 1/4 of my yearly income. Romney definitly is out of step with working America. Way to go Rick for saying no to that idiocy. Leaders lead when Kennedy said we were going to the moon we couldn't even get a rocket off the pad. But that statement lead to a rise in math and science scores across the country. Way to go Newt for the dream for our kids.
I can't believe repug maroons think Obama is a socialist (while so many of them are on Social Security but don't realize it's socialism ;') Their feeble brains are too taken with talk-radio slogans.
Obama has helped the Banks, The Insurers, and the Drug companies. If that's socialism, it's only socialism for corporations (but they, they're total persons according to the USSC so I guess he's courting the corporation vote.)
BTW, government colluding with corporations is Fascism, which is the Opposite of socialism, but maroon baggers would have to read a dictionary to find that out, and they probably think a dictionary is where you store dicks.
We don't THINK Obama is a socialist, we KNOW he is a socialist, just read his books for proof.
Jim Mooney - Obama isn't a socialist, he's a Marxist.
If any republican is voted into the president position, our problems will continue to grow. They will do nothing except make it easier to plunder the environment.
outsourcing of jobs to China, continued ultra high spending on military, more people without health insurance, lowering of taxes on the wealthy, etc, etc, etc,
CorporateShill - and you feel that with another Obama presidency, our problems will diminish? Tell me what he's done to decrease the amount of problems we have in the past 3 years. Is our debt receding? Is the budget balanced? Do we even have a budget at all? Will government shrink, or grow? Will we reach the economic collapse Obama wants? Expound away!
The GOPs need a true conservative if they want any chance of winning. The only candidate up there that fits the bill is Ron Paul, but for some reason he gets no attention. I have mixed feelings about Obama, but if the GOP thinks Newt stands a chance in hell of defeating him then they truly are delusional.
I see that the fascists at Fox have Davset and Brianb completely brainwashed. Live your lives in fear bro's, just as they want you to. It's the only way to keep ratings. Oh that and skank a$$ hoes opening their legs for the camera ala Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct.
@Davset and Brian B: "Obama is a socialist." You don't know what the word socialism means do you? Socialism is an economic system in which the government owns and controls the means of production and distribution of goods. What industries has Obama seized for government ownership and control?
Read Abdullah67 1.1 (and no it's not the Koran, it's the first message collapsed above)
It's a about a certain candidate that looks remarkably like my avatar...
Leave it to Republicans to nominate a serial liar to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Obama versus Newt is another term for Obama, period. Newt is a insider dirt bag, and he will be destroyed in a general campaign.
That's funny Tonybeeerm, since I don't have a television to watch Fox news. But you didn't know that did you? You just spout out whatever you wish in order to diminish my conservatism. Maybe you need to watch TV to formulate your ideology, but those of us who are true conservative don't. Of course you would never understand that because you have to be fed liberalism in order to maintain your steady diet of hatred and angst.
I see you make references to actresses... maybe that's YOUR life, but it's not mine. Mine is based in reality and I have eyes to see with, ears to hear with and a stable brain to distinguish what is going on in this world.
Oh, did I hurt your liberal feelings? Too bad. Next time ask the questions before making assumptions. Just because liberalism carrys with it a degree of arrogance, doesn't' mean you should show it.
You know what's really sad, that socialism is considered a dirty word in our country...
Fox News is a self-admitted far-right news outlet. That is an undeniable fact. Yes, MSNBC is liberal, but we do not try to deny that. Since you are commenting on MSNBC as a conservative, it would be safe to assume you watch a decent amount of Fox News. However, you attempt to go the extra mile by claiming that we must watch MSNBC to be liberal. That is false. I do not watch MSNBC, I only come here to debate with conservatives. Thus, you act quite hypocritically here.
How the hell did you pull this out? Please explain your logic here.
You sound dangerously close to conservapedia here, and you display a ridiculous amount of hypocracy. I'm not even going to point out where. You should be able to see how ridiculous that paragraph is.
Marcia - read my response in 1.82 above. It will provide to you a definition to what Marxism is. I didn't call Obama a socialist, I defined him as a Marxist. While Marxism does contain within it's ideology socialism, the concept was born from Karl Marx and Friedirich Engels. It''s a collective policy of state run commerce. It is the antithesis of capitalism, the system that has worked so well in this country ever since the first Thanksgiving. Obama wants to change the system so government controls everything and take it out of private hands.
There are supporters of this in Congress as well. Maxine Waters is a big proponent of Marxism. She would love to get her hands on big oil. She stated as much a couple of years ago:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3I-PVVowFY
Mr. Anon - you don't know me, or my lifestyle. You don't keep track of what I do, or what I don't do. Your comments are useless because you assume, by my response that I must watch Fox.
If Jack helped you off the horse, would you help Jack off the horse?
That's about the most accurate description of logic that I can say about your analogy.
Except your evidence does not run consistent with your definition. Obama has done nothing to create public control of production.
Except you made assumptions about our lifestyle as well, and that was the hypocracy of your post.
You said something about someone making a reference to actresses, and then you made an assumption off of their whole lifestyle based on that.
I really hate to bust the bubbles of Brian-b and the sorts, but exactly why do you think Gingrich is the best you can muster?
It's because the REAL GOP leaders in the back offices don't want to waste their money or a viable candidate when they think Obama will win. The GOP will split the vote with an Independent (Ron Paul) and, besides, they actually aren't that unhappy with Obama. They think he's run out of gas and will continue to be blocked by Congress. They need the Tea Party to fade and Obama to take it to his last day with no obvious replacement (Hillary will not run)... it will then be there for the taking for Christie or some other realistic candidate.
Sorry guys... you gotta wait until 2016. You'll get your excitement with Gingrich or Romney, but neither one satisfies your current "base"...
I really wish you people would get off the socialist/marxist bullsh!t. It's really not very becoming of you. You just sound like fools.
Gingrich supporters were chanting "How low can we go? How low can we go?"
The GOP/TP will do the following:
1) If Romney gets the nomination, the Tea Party will try to run a third-party candidate.
2) If Gingrich gets the nomination, establishment Republicans will want President Obama to be reelected. Especially those who served during Gingrich's speaker-ship, who know Newt is a train wreck waiting to happen.
Either way, Teapublicans are already focusing on congressional and state-level races as they have since 2008. People, keep an eye on these races. Another round of Teapublican obstructionism in congress, or governors like Scott Walker, John Kasich, or Rick Scott have to end if our nation is to have any hope for recovery. Throw the Teapublicans out!
Mr. Anon -- It's hard to tell if people are watching FOX Noise, or listening to Hate Radio, or getting information on the Internet whether chain Emails or websites like NewsMax -- Or no news at all (a recent study shows FOX viewers are less well-informed than those who watch no news at all).
We need to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine.
Even without this doctrine, FOX was sued and had to drop their tag-line of "Fair and Balanced" and replace it with "we report, you decide" - Hahah, OMG!
I do watch MSNBC, but also Meet the Press, CNN, PBS (especially panel programs like the McLachlan Group), as well as reading online such as this site. I admit I stopped watching FOX a long time ago because it's not a good use of time. Conservatives deny getting their information exclusively from FOX, but they parrot the squawking points, so are getting these elsewhere if even just from family, church, and friends of like minds. They live in a right-wing Echo Chamber and Cone of Silence, and this they can't deny.
LMarcT - Looking over the field of candidates, Gingrich is the most conservative of the pack. I never said he was perfect... like you believe Obama is perfect (with flaws attached). He hasn't been nominated yet. It's still a far cry from over. The other candidates are either too liberal, or unelectable.
I know you don't like hearing Obama being called a Marxist... but that's exactly what he is. A leopard can't change his spots and Obama won't change his ideology. Get over it.
It's starting to look like the Gingrich Who Stole Christmas.
One last time Mr. Anon: Except your evidence does not run consistent with your definition. Obama has done nothing to create public control of production.
Nothing? Nothing at all? Do you keep up with what's going on, or do you simply ignore all the news? Three corporate names: GM, Chrysler and GE. The US government owns shares in all these corporations. Never in the history of this country has the government held controlling shares of any privately owned business. Obama fired CEO's and replaced them, or don't you remember?

Brian,
Don't believe for a moment that I like every move Obama or his administration has made... I'm just appalled at what the GOP does and says.
Also, there is a huge difference between emergency action and taking action because you are a marxist. Had we been cruising along and then decided to nationalize the auto industry, then yes, we should object. What was done with the auto industry was an emergency action, it was temporary, and it was done to SAVE our capitalist economy, not to destroy it.
Conservatives take note of some inside information I'm about to share with you. I am an Independent who leans to the Left. I am not impressed with Romney, as he lacks the gravitas to be POTUS. But I don't dislike Romney. I dispise Gingrich as a person, and if this scum is nominated, the campaigning will become a twisted, ugly spectacle by which no one could get out the vote for Dems the way Gingrich could, and people like Karl Rove know it.
Brianb -- I have no problem with nationalizing industries that profit from national resources that belong to all citizens, and from infrastructure built with tax dollars (dams, bridges, power plants, water canals, etc.). And no one should profit from sickness either. Health care providers can remain private sector providers, but should be non-profit. Feast on this you troll.
Yes, the automotive industry was bailed out, but not by Obama. GM, Chrysler, and Ford were bailed out be President George W. Bush (actually, that was one of his better actions as president, but we'll discuss later.).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automotive_industry_crisis_of_2008#United_States
Fact remains that all of those companies are still private enterprises. When the government starts making cars, then we'll talk.
Back on topic... Newt thinks he's smart because he still hasn't been caught for some things he's been doing.
Honestly, I'd rather not focus on Newt Gingrich's private affairs at the moment unless a conservative here brings it up. There's legitimate reasons why he should never be allowed to come near the presidency, one of them being his severe inconsistency with issues.
The House voted overwhelmingly to reprimand House Speaker Newt Gingrich and order him to pay an unprecedented $300,000 penalty; the first time in the House's 208-year history it has disciplined a speaker for ethical wrongdoing. And this is the guy Republicans are backing…. Go figure…
Ross Martin - 74 of the 75 charges were bogus. They couldn't prove any of them. They were tossed out. Do you know why he paid the $300,000 in fines and do you know what they were for? Maybe you should do a little research and find out on your own. It probably won't change your opinion, but at least you'll know the truth... if you want the truth.
and brianb, you are doing what exactly? oh yeah, maintaining a steady diatribe of hatred and angst. do you know what "projection" (psychological term)is?
you have zero evidence that "obama wants to destroy the economy" any such statement is nothing but a pointless, unsubstantiated, and completely ridiculous statement that is spread by lying, unfounded e-mail garbage that serves no purpose but to make those who spout such nonsense look like tin-foil hat conspiracy loons.
don't forget that newt was leading the charge against clintons BJ while having an affair of his own at the same time.
ross, you got me chuckling from your post 2.31. How droll of you and the left to think that a man can't change his past behavior. Geez... If a president can get a BJ in the WH from someone other than his wife, or another try telling us there are 57 states or that increasing our debt ceiling is a bad thing and the left forgives them or that there is nothing wrong with taking $500 billion from medicare to pay for obamacare or was willing to cut entitlements by $600 billion.
Such a progressive stand the left makes, I guess no one can be rehabilitated except those on the left.
One thing for sure, the primaries will be interesting regardless of the BS that the left will spew out of their mouths. Another thing for sure is that my finger will be on the remote next sept, october and first few days of november. Kinda think that the political ads from both sides will be nasty!
LMarcT - I totally agree that the GOP is as blind as bats flying with no radar. They have an opportunity in front of them that they refuse to take advantage of. The establishment republicans are complete fools. I've said this for years.
I fundamentally disagree with your assessment of TARP. I didn't like it when it was in GWB's hands and he decided to do it. Obama signed it and sealed the deal. The best thing that could have happened is for the corporations to file Chapter 11 - restructuring. They would have emerged from it stronger and in better shape than allowing the govenment to bail them out. They would have been forced into a complete restructure and removal of the fat they were wasting. Their product would have been better because a lot of what they were trying to sell was junk. I wouldn't buy GM because I didn't like their product... I still don't like it and refuse to buy GM.... and I'll never buy a Chrysler vehicle again even though I've owned several vehicles... caravans and trucks.
Aaaaah... Danwill returns. I have plenty of evidence Obama wants to destroy our economy and turn this country into a Marxist state. First and foremost is his past. Who he studied under while at Columbia University, Who he made political pacts with in Chicago, who his mentors were, what church he attended... what his beliefs hold. The words he's spoken and the action he's taken. What evidence is more valid than his actions while President.
His words tell us exactly who he is. Words do have meaning and there's plenty of words he's spoken that reveal his plan. How many Youtube videos would you like me to post?
Brianb: You fight the good fight but remember what you are dealing with. Those posters who decry defining Obama as a Marxist or socialist are generally people in favor of Marxism or socialism. Obama is an interesting hybrid of crony capitalist and marxist. Note how his supporters never mention Solyndra, GE and Immelt, his cabinet full of radicals and admirerers of Mao and Marx. They don't want you to point out his flaw, his allegiances and his hypocrisy, his class warfare and radical attempts to transform America (into what, exactly?) They don't like the idea of his warmongering (Libya was nothing more than an excuse to hand the oil over to big oil) being brought up nor do they seem to want to look at his support of unions with taxpayer money, they claim GM was a success or that Bush was the cause of all Obama's troubles. They live in the land of denial and will dwell there forever and ever.
If Gingrich is nominated by the GOP for president, then Obama wins. Gingrich is UNELECTABLE! No way would he secure the independent vote.
Obama and Bush were forced to do that or else the economy would be destroyed. Do you know how many jobs lie in the automotive industry?
Again, the most you have is speculative "intentions" of Obama to make the nation marxist. Not a single policy can be called Marxist by any means. In fact, many people even disagree with the categorization of Obama as liberal (http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Essay:Is_Obama_really_a_lefty%3F).
You have no evidence of this.
You have no evidence of this.
As stated above, many liberals have criticized Obama for not fulfilling his campaign promises.
Yes, into what? Please explain.
Libya was a NATO operation, not a United States war.
Yes, we acknowledge and support this. Unions are at their weakest in decades.
It was. TARP is almost solvent.
Bush, his dad, and Reagan are the cause of the debt your side keeps on ranting about. Without them the WWII debt would have been long paid off.
I'd like you to read my post and re-evaluate this statement.
Apologies for my overuse of Gish Galloping, but I can't deny it's fun.
I thought Obama only wanted to serve one term:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&v=SmRgaKfWMPA&NR=1
Here are some reminders of the ethics probe:
But in fact the House voted on whether or not Gingrich was guilty of ethics violations, and 395 members of the House voted against him. The vote was 395 to 28, thus including a large number of Republicans.
Because...
Also because Gingrich agreed to pay $300,000 for the costs of the ethics committee investigation.
Now, one can say not all the charges were legitimate, or that some charges just couldn't stick (Newt entered office on a teacher's pay and left a wealthy man), but no one can argue that Newt is an example of integrity that voters expect for holding the highest office in the land and as leader of the free world.
The GOP T-Retard voters are getting desperate for a leader with a loser lowlife like Newt, don't be blinded by this idiot !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TruePatriot - quite a bit of namecalling for someone that claims I'm on ignore. I guess in your weakness, you just couldn't help yourself. I actually like Trolls... they are magical mysterious creatures with some pretty neat abilities. One of mine happens to be seeing through liberalism. Liberalism is a disease of the mind. Emotional thought overrides rational thought and it leaves you helpless and like jellyfish.
Yep , he screwed up , paid for his mistakes ,, I'll vote for him
mygirl1 -- Study up on different governmental systems in the world throughout history. Then maybe you'll learn what socialism (or Marxism) really is, and you'd fear the far-right facsists (pro-military, corporatist, usually dictatorship) even more. Because I'm definitely more concerned about the current push toward a fascist theocratic plutocracy, which we are seeing from fundamentalist Teapublicans protecting the 1% versus our constitutional democracy and the 99%.
Brianb-999431 -- I'm referring to an Internet term as follows:
In your case, I would add proliferate quantity of said trolling.
Obvious rhetoric should not be taken at face value.
When did he namecall you? In fact, when did he even specifically address you in his post?
You do realize you yourself are exhibiting quite a lot of trollish patterns right now?
Like pretty much admitting that you are a troll here.
And you accuse us of personally attacking you? I'm not the one whose only argument against Obama is "he's a marxist".
so you are promoting "rational thought" by screaming death and gloom? making massive accusations without any facts to back them up. screaming e-mail, radio talk-show nonsense without any actual rational backing, etc.
"you call yourself "rational" but all you are doing is screaming baseless accusations and whining "I know you are, but what am I?"
Say what you may but out of all presidential contenders Newt appears to be the most stable on his feet. All questions put to him he answers without hesitation and with confidence and there is no doubt he knows his subject.
The only other candidate with the same ability is Ron Paul.
of course, we should also carefully note brainb's standard right-wing tactic of deflection and blame. he is clearly trying his absolute best to deflect any conversation away from newt's many clear and obvious faults by screaming a bunch of annoying nonsense about Obama (and we have been answering his idealogically driven, purely rhetoric-driven nonsense)
A liar is always full of hot air and can always answer the questions without hesitation or confidence... Newt is a good liar... always has been.
I'm a southerner and I'm quite disappointed to see Newt ahead in the polls in S.C. With this state being part of the Bible belt, I'm shocked that Newt's history would not prevent the voters in S.C. from voting for him. As for Florida, that is NOT a southern state so Newt support there is not all that surprising. I'm sure the reason Newt is up in the polls is because every other Republican loser has fallen out of favor for one reason or another. Newt will screw up as well unless he doesn't say another word between now and the election and that is NOT going to happen. Mark my word, Newt will be the "least" favorite in no time because he's an arrogant, lying, backstabbing, cocky, greedy and mouthy Washington insider who will give nothing but more of the same... support the wealthy at all costs and make everything favorable for large corporations. He is sickening... I cannot stand to look at him, let alone listen to him.
mygirl1 and brianb are regulars guys, Troll's from the get go. Leave them alone and like diarrhea ( A condition in which feces are discharged from the bowels frequently and in a liquid form).it abruptly ends and goes away on it's own, just don't respond and they'll come at you with a new ID in a few days, I have to admit that their fun to watch, Kinda like a girl fight, nobody really gets hurt, but ya might see some boobies.....Peace
More right-wing propaganda...
We know conservatives love a redemption story, at least anyway when it's a Republican, but how gullible of you to think Newt Gingrich has changed his ways. Not only is his campaign a book tour (like Palin, Trump, and Cain), Newt was at it again trying to promote an "Aprenti" program for 10 poor kids along with Trump. Gingrich was already busted for setting up a charity for poor kids, then transferring funds from the charity into his campaign and the pockets of a colleague.
From PolitFact:
It comes from ending payments to providers above and beyond normal Medicare pay-outs, from increased premiums for higher-income beneficiaries, and from more efficient administration. It is true that future savings from Medicare are planned to offset new costs created by the Affordable Care Act, because Democrats wanted to make sure they did not increase the federal deficit (how horrible!).
However, seniors are already seeing savings in Medicare because of the Affordable Care Act, and we will continue to see more savings as a result of the Affordable Care Act. As for using the word "stolen" (Bachmann, bah!), this bill was passed according to congressional procedure and in a transparent way. There's nothing illegal about it--such hyperbole is BS.
Now, should Dems cut Social Security? Hell no, and that's why it's not on the table. Talk about stealing, let's hear Teapublicans explain how they will repay the IOU sitting in the trust fund box.
We're not talking about last night's entertainment--the $10K bet. When Romney said that I was surprised that Perry didn't respond. "Oh yeah---let's go down to Camp N Head and settle this like 2 dumb asses!"
You people on the right have to be sweating this one hard. One guy's character flaws makes Clinton qualify as St William. You have 2 Mormon guys that the believe that black people are black as a punishment of God, and most of the other camp believes that Mormons are cultist. And--then, there's the fruitcake lady--and lest we forget, walking death--Ron Paul that the government vendors would never get elected.
Just imagine what our congress may have accomplished if they were to agree on focal point decision making, its been awhile..The separation between parties gets clearer and clearer just reading these boards. America is over like a four leaf clover, I mean the lack luster of humanity it still boils down to the have's and have nots.
So lets just predict Gingrinch makes his way to the White House, will he be bought by corporate again like usual or will parties join ? This next election is the most critical to me, like do or die..
Same thing occurs to me whenever I hear presidential debates or election news on TV:
The unreality of the US presidential campaign
12 December 2011
by Patrick Martin
The US presidential election campaign sees its first official contest in only three weeks, with the January 3 Republican and Democratic Party caucuses in the state of Iowa, followed by the first primary election in New Hampshire a week later.
The main features of the campaign so far—the debates among the Republican candidates, the responses from the Obama White House, the feverish media coverage—testify to the immeasurable chasm that separates the US political system from the concerns of the vast majority of the American people.
Both of the two political parties of big business, the Democrats as much as the Republicans, are moving further and further to the right, demanding savage cuts in social services to cover the deficits created by the bailout of Wall Street and the economic slump brought on by the financial crash of 2008.
But among working people, the trajectory of political development is toward the left, expressed in embryonic form in the Occupy Wall Street protests and the increasing anger among workers in factories and offices and on the unemployment lines. Opinion polls show overwhelming popular opposition to cuts in Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security as well as to reductions in other social programs at the state and local levels.
There is an overpowering air of unreality in the 2012 election campaign. One would not know, listening either to Obama’s campaign-style appearance in Kansas last Wednesday or the Republican debate in Iowa Saturday, that tens of millions of working people in the United States live in poverty, that economic insecurity dominates daily life, and that American society faces a tidal wave of hunger, unemployment, foreclosures and the collapse of education, health care and other social services…
http://www.wsws.org/articles/2011/dec2011/pers-d12.shtml
walking death? dollars to doughnuts Dr. Paul is healthier than you.
jake #2.13.
It is, Jake. It is. When liberals like obama scheme to take away in the form of high taxes the income of people who worked hard so his liberal causes and projects can be funded, that is big time socialism, bordering on communism. In short, "income re-distribution." DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT, Jake???
If a president can get a BJ in the WH from someone other than his wife, or another try telling us there are 57 states...
I personally could not care less what a president does on his personal / private time.
I also have no concern about a president occasionally goofing in normal conversation; they all do it.
What I care intensely about is any would-be telling me how to live or who to love. I care intensely when such a person has an intellectual vomiting incident every time he comes up with a new idea, or tries to wax philosophic. Loot Blingrich is insane at many levels, and personally, I think he is a sociopath in the first magnitude.
The House majority GOP made that monster go away long ago. And there, he should stay forever.
Obama killed Bin Laden???...that's a laugh. Let's just say he was "present" by the phone. The end of Bin Laden came from Bush's intel gathered over the years, some through waterboarding. I don't recall seeing Obama in his Rambo outfit leading the charge. Navy Seals took out OBL. Funny how he BLAMES Bush and everybody BUT himself for what is wrong in the country, when in fact, he, BO, made things WORSE, then turns around and TAKES CREDIT for what Bush started and pursued since 2001.
Who in their right mind will vote for Gingrich. He is a money grabbing sob. REad about the contract he expects for speaking engagements. EX; first class airfare, $60,000 per engagement, demands 1 bedroom suite with preferably 2 bathrooms etc.. etc..etc..The presidential salary would'nt begin to cover his Tiffany style tastes and desires, ten times that will not be enough but he'll take from the taxpayers any way he can. He's amassased a 150 million + financial empire yet is digging himself out of debt for expenses for private jets and all kinds of pricey perks. He was basically kicked out of DC yet people want him in the top spot. How many millions? over 6 that he made "consulting" for some of the bail-out bastards. By all means vote for the A-moral SOB if you have some sick desire to see this country bankrupt, demoralized, destroyed and labeled "PROPERTY OF CHINA".
gingrich would absolutely be leading the charge of corporations selling the US out to China.
you want to see MORE American jobs lost? vote gingrich.
Or maybe they just like speaking 'real' English, instead of Doublespeak.
Orwell was right.
Ah yes, Doublespeak. Rather like how Hasan's murdering 13 soldiers at Ft. Hood while shouting "Allu Akhbar" is now considered 'workplace violence?' Read any of Obama's books? He spells out how he actively sought out those Marxist professors and radical revolutionary students, wonder why? Then you have the sword of 'community organizer' which is a creation that was perfected under the tutelage of Saul Alinsky and then there is Reverend Wright, a proponent of 'Black Liberation Theology' which borrows heavily on the writings of Marx and Engels. So, no reason to think that perhaps Obama is a mite inclined in the directions of Marxism?
As to fascism, plutocracies and oligarths, what semblance is there with Marxism and socialism? Well, lets see here, all are a form of controlling the masses (proletariat) and if you believe the politburo is akin to the oligarchs then you see some similarities in totalitarianism. Never mind who does the controlling, the end is always the same except that generally fascists aren't so inclined to commit mass murders of the Stalinist kind. They prefer mass murders of the Hitler model.
Mygirl1:
Obama is an interesting hybrid of crony capitalist and marxist. Note how his supporters never mention Solyndra, GE and Immelt, his cabinet full of radicals and admirerers of Mao and Marx.
Lets see, Obama is both Capitalist and Marxist. What type of capitalist system is crony? What philosophical basis is crony couched within? Either he is a Marxist or a Capitalist. The majority of Corporations in a healthy Capitalist system fail. That is the basis of the system. When the Banks paid back their loans early, and the American auto industry recovered, was that Marxism or Crony Capitalism? Maybe the government uses financial and policy tools in order to minimize financial hardship and promote healthy development. The label Marxist is simply stupid as an argument by itself. The alternative is a strict laissez faire approach, that no economist would endorse, because the result is always an unacceptably unstable economy. Virtually every economist has studied Marxist economic thought. That is the origin of the very concept of economic classes. Capitalist thought denies the legitimacy of the CONCEPT of economic class. Every time a conservative says that the left is waging class warfare, they are espousing an idea based in MARXIST economic concepts. Those who are educated know this and are being disingenious, and those who are not, are ignorant of the bulk of economic theory.
Brian B:

Those capitalist Pilgrims, with their highly lucrative Plymouth Colony. I thought they wanted religious freedom.
Although you do not seem to be a stupid person, your worldview lacks nuance. I suspect that possibly you feel attacked and present your most extreme positions.
Preying on people's desperation, teabaggers make up one of the most divisive, polarizing political contingents in decades. One can only hope that reason and common decency will win out in the end.
The ONLY people who will vote for Barak in the next election are Socialist/Marxists and idiots. So lonereb, my guess is that you'll be voting for Obama again, which of the two are you?
ssmithlg a bit repetitive now don't you think. Only hateful republican/tea baggers are this way>
"The ONLY people who will vote for Barak in the next election are Socialist/Marxists and idiots."
That's the beauty of living in a democracy and the majority rules, even if they are socialist/marxists idiots :-)
ssmithg: the ONLY people who make posts like yours with inane "facts" are idiots and morons. which of the two are you? :)
ssmithlg
good grief - were you uncertain whether people would think of you as a fool in #1.1 that you needed to repeat yourself in #3.1?
let me save you some effort - no need to repeat it again....people got the message the first time!
I love how comments are collapsed here if we disagree with Obamamaniacs. I would definitely vote for Gingrich over Obama. Most of my family voted for Obama in 2008. He won't get a single vote from us this time. I know MANY people that feel the same way. His foreign policy, growth in government jobs, union support over the private sector, Obamacare, and his illegal use of government agencies have clearly marked him as a failure as president. LOL, I wonder how long it will take for this post to be collapsed?
I think you forget what the tea party originated from. I'll refresh your memory. In 2007 there was a movement, started by Ron Paul backers, against big government and high taxes. They did a re-enactment of the boston tea party who opposed taxation from England. The majority of them simply want less government, less taxation, and more freedom. Insulting the entire group is a cowardly and moronic act optimist.
Amerrycan, I think you forget that the drug addict talk show hosts started the tea party against the government lead by a black president. Insulting our intelligence is not the way to go. Good luck in 2012, you're going to need it. Keep your hands off my medicare.
lol.. I didn't insult your intelligence IMHO. Don't worry, I don't want to touch your medicare. As I stated before, I simply want less government and more freedom.
I agree amerrycan. With the current administration, our government is growing like the blob. That's one of the trademarks of a Marxist.
The second trademark when trying to take over is to destroy the economy. Never have we had an administration add 1/3 to the debt in such a short time. We went from $10 trillion to $15 trillion in 3 years. I don't think the liberals understand the gravity of that amount of debt in such a short period of time. They simply ignore it as if it will never effect them... they encourage the support of a president that is working, systematically on destroying our Constitution and eventual way of life. As they ignore it, they look at us on the right as the problem. They scream class warfare but ignore the origination of where class warfare comes from in modern history. It's a Marxist concept.
We need to change course, or America as we know it will be gone forever. Say goodbye to freedom of speech. Say goodbye to all the benefits you receive... plan on standing in long lines for your food and toilet paper... plan on living under strict budgets... welcome in the new soviet America... it's coming to a neighborhood near you if Obama wins.
It has already started Brianb, did you see those long lines people had to stand in on Black Friday just to buy an Xbox or HD TV, before long those same people that fought over pallets of high end electronics will be fighting for their chance to buy some toilet paper. If Obama is re-elected by next year it may be called Brown Friday!
@ssmithlg: You have no idea what the word socialism means do you? The government does not own and control the means and production of goods. What industry has Obama seized and put under government control and ownership?
Optimist-2618173,
Yes!!
and Let Freedom Ring again !!!!!
No it isn't.
The debt is irrelevent during a recession. Also, Obama raised the debt much slower than Bush did in his last here (in other words, as a percentage of the GDP, Obama's deficits have been lower than Bush's last deficit). And again, you do not understand marxism, instead using it as a rhetorical phrase.
Evidence?
Evidence?
Evidence?
Forrest - you got the name all wrong... it will be called brown shirt Friday. Geeezzzz...
Actually those long lines at the stores on Friday are an example of capitalism in it's finest. Of course there were a few stampedes in various places. I understand some dead bodies were overlooked... and of course, sales receipts were at an all time high... Isn't America great... as it is? (questionable)
Mr. Anon says: The debt is irrelevant during a recession.
Huh? The debt is irrelevant? The debt could crush us. It could bring down our economy. Can you predict every eventuality? Can you predict that we will not encounter a major catastrophe? Can you say for certain that something will never happen to cause our debt to destroy our economy? If you can, that's pretty bold. I'd like to see your crystal ball. I don't live under the illusion that each day is the same... and something will never happen. We've never encountered country wide occurances, have we? We've never had attacks on our soil before, have we? What difference does it make whether we are in a recession or not considering the nature of the world.
The last deficit of Bush was created by the democratic congress... without a budget I might add.
You're looking for a debate, but you come to the room unarmed.
no, that is the plan of the right wing, eliminate all government benefits, social security, welfare, food stamps, medicare, environmental protection, education, mail delivery, etc. (the postmaster general is a leftover, pro-privatization of the mail bush appointment despite the fact that no private service wants daily letter delivery even at $1 per letter)
but the right will happily increase the right of the police to "watch for terrorists" (meaning anyone that opposes them), in most countries (and increasingly in the US) "terrorist" is code for any opposition
Once again, spending and borrowing undeniably got us out of the Deprresion. At the end of WWII, we had a debt that was 120% of the GDP. This was paid down over time.
Your logic is horrible. Go back and re-evaluate your statement. This is a ridiculous strawman and I really think you are trolling.
During Bush's last year only the House was Democratic. The Republicans had a lock over the senate through the filibuster, and in any case the actual number was 49-49. Bernie Sanders votes with the Democrats and Joe Lieberman is more of a conservative. So that is 50-50, and the Republicans had Dick Cheney's tie vote. But in the end, the president has to pass a budget, which did exist for that year (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_United_States_federal_budget) that was created by George W. Bush. Since 2009's budget was also created by Bush (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_United_States_federal_budget), Obama has actually lowered the deficit.
I have more evidence than you do, as you can see.
Newt's higher than a loose hog in an untended "moonshine distillery". Romney will overtake him only by the occurrence of the "rapture" prior to the election.
amerrycan your movement was good until it started taking money from the Koch boys. It was directly funded by those two, take a look at who the backers are and you'll see your no longer republicans, your now libertarians, someone just needed to tell you who you've become....Peace
Talk to the President about that, while you're at it tell him to keep his hands off your Social Security too, claiming that the Republicans are trying to "kill" old people while trying to continue the payroll tax cut (which takes money out of the social security fund) is absurd at best. I'm sorry but four more years of band-aids isn't going to help us.
I just lost my job, if I still had it I wouldn't mind paying 1000.00 more a year to make sure the older generations SS is funded, though I want to weed it out over time. Under Dr. Paul's plan it would work, I personally wouldn't get to "opt out" but people 10 years younger than me would (wish I was ten years younger)
Social Security could have been ok if the government had'nt raided these funds so many times without ever paying it back. If you or I took money that didn't belong to us we'd be in JAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If those in the "older generations" are to do without SS that has been paid into by them for (depending on your definition of older generation) 30,40,50,60 years then what happens to them?? Euthanasia???????????
Someone needs to write a book on this subject, detailing how many off budget items were covered by the SSI surplus. The evidence should exist in the Congressional Record.
yeah "euthanasia" through total absence of private insurance , since an old person is a "poor financial risk" and has "prior conditions"
unless you happen to be independently wealthy, the conservative plan will leave the elderly to die unless they happen to have a couple hundred thousand to pay for their own care. but the insurance CEOS will be demanding bigger bonuses for sending grandma off to die.
danwill, your absolutely correct, but the worst part is they will dismantle it without anything of substance to replace it. Virtually no one in the past 13 years has made a dime from their 401K's. Their balances have risen in principle only from their contribution deductions and employer contributions. What no one seems to understand is you've giving your wealth to addicted high risk gamblers who use YOUR money to play with. look at the S&P point to point indexes and you'll quickly see that what the rich give they quickly take back. Your lucky if you have investments that cover your base dollars, for many have not chosen as wisely and damn near have lost everything they and their employers invested. theres a crime in there somewhere, we just need to find it.......
I agree amerrycan. With the current administration, our government is growing like the blob. That's one of the trademarks of a Marxist.
Never did the government grow as it did with the creation of the (police state) Department of Homeland (Fatherland) Security. But, that's just an inconvenient fact for a BananaRepublican like you.
And, never forget... Wait, learn it for the first time: Until Obama took office, the Wars of Empire were totally off the books. That's a Hell of a lot of cash to hide from the People.
Floriduh...some things never change !
Vote for "none of the above". Is there nobody willing to run independently besides Ron Paul? Is there no decent worthy canidates left in this country that aren't afraid to go up agaisnt Obama and Gingrich?? Somebody has to being willing to stop this country from going to hell in 2012!!!
It's Newt's nomination to lose. I think he will take Iowa, South Carolina and Florida. Mitt will probably take New Hampshire, but only because it is in his back yard.
OK. Any other bold predictions Miss Cleo?
So this is the best the GOP can muster up. First it was Bachman for 1 second, then for about 5 seconds, Perry, then for about 2 minutes Cain, now it's Gingrich for how many minutes? Paul,Santorum, Huntsman were for zero seconds, and Romney just trickles the same however, slow it is.
Obama is going to win again, because this GOP primary race looks like a zoo with a bunch of bizarre animals in it. It's too bad they're not going to give us Independents a better choice.
A 10,000 bet? What a statement to make when people in the USA can't afford their electric bill. What an arrogant , out of touch idiot.
President Ron Paul!
Yes, we'll all vote for Ron Paul to take away medicare. good luck with that.
It's worse than that IMHO: Paul wants to take the country back to the Articles of Confederation, which did not work so well the first time. Somehow, Paul refuses to acknowledge and accept that fact.
It is much better than what we are getting now. The whole thing is in modern day America we want our money for nothing and our chicks for free!!!!!!
This is Ron Paul's moment! He'll get plenty of big-time press nailing the fat one intelligently...
not to take it away IMHO but to phase it out, there's a huge difference.
That's a good point about the fat one, I don't listen to anything he has to say concerning healthcare until he drops 80lbs.
All this and more from the"FAMILY VALUES" party. The republican/tea baggers party you guys have take a new direction. Its shows you guys would rather have a blowhard represent you. You go I'm cheering for you! The next best thing is have "Donald" take his place. Mittens just drop out and leave them have Newt to be there savior. You republican/tea baggers you get what you deserve.
Smitty - on the contrary, what you want is the continuation of more Marxist changes. You can use all the false bravado you like when it comes to Newt, but the one thing Newt is not, is a Marxist. What we have now is a president that has taken over private sector businesses... a sure sign he's a Marxist. We have a president that is in bed with the banks, but promotes anti-bank rethoric to the public. Obama is also tied in with Wall Street but supports OWS because he wants unrest in the streets... another sure sign of a Marxist.
Now you can sit there and deny or ignore these things, or come to the realization that they are happening right in front of your eyes... you can't justify Obama's actions with anything, but I can. He's using Marxist tactics to take over this country... if he's elected for another term, he will have enough time to complete his plan.
As much as liberals hated GWB, he never tried to take over this country while pulling the wool over our eyes.
Marxist Marxist Marxist, blah blah blah, whatever. That stuff is getting so old, can you change the record??
Brian B.....GWB never pulled the wool over our eyes, really? Does a fake war come to mind? You are right Newt is not a Marxist but a womanizing pig who is ethically challenged and a liar.
he's a marxist in the sense that he's into sharing women.
brianb Is every one who supports The President a marxist? Sounds like you think so. Boy your up against allot of marxists. Your entitled to your view. Please tell us what his secret "plan" is? Information is what I want you to give. Just think you alone could bring down this President because you know the"plan". Please put your cards on the table. If you can't tell us the "plan" you lose what creditably you do have. Remember you said he has a plan.
By the junior bush only tried to take over 2 other countries. Don't try to pull the wool over eyes.
t.marino - Everything about the war in Iraq was above board. There were months of warnings that the public was aware of. The war was voted on by Congress and it passed with plenty of democratic support. Because you refuse to admit that Saddam Hussein refused to comply with the UN and United States demands, liberals have morphed the war into being illegal. It was far from illegal or fake.
Smitty - no, not everyone who supports Obama is a Marxist. A lot of his supporters are blinded by his rethoric. They actually believe him when he says "change" without definition. The word "change" conjurs up whatever the person hearing the word can imagine. They then fall in line with thinking he's the solution. Well for 3 years he has provided NO solution. He has thrown this country under the bus so many times we have tire track marks from Maine to Washington state. He calls our people lazy. I take great exception to his thinking. I am far from lazy. Obama promotes class warfare and he actually believes it... even though he sits on millions of dollars in the bank. His plan involves using Marxist theology in shredding our Constitution one piece at a time. Through his administration he has taken our debt up one third of what it was before his presidency. The debt will eventually crush our economy and much faster than anyone can imagine. If he's allowed to sit in the office through one more term, he will achieve the Marxist plan of tearing down our nation. If Obamacare is fully enacted, that just might be the straw that breaks the camel's back. Who's going to pay for it? We are so much in debt we won't be able to borrow any more... see a pattern here?
Now any converse opinion you might have concerning the Marxist plan... tell me where his plan isn't already in place and what will stop it.
Good grief.
They got what they deserve all right, 3 marriages, evangelical radio will keep that kind of quiet. Palestianians are invented, inner city youth can all be trained to be janitors, and some kids in dys functional families would be better in orphanages. There's alottttt of gas to throw on this fire.
Bull crap Brian b- the way Bush pumped Iraq on the American people was shameful in light of 9/11, he went around calling him a terrorist as if to associate Sadam with Islamic insurgents, nothing close to the truth. But the problem was is that 98% of Americans could not distinguish most of what goes on in that region of the world, and good ole congress was not going to step in the way of George's insistance that going in would be in the U.S best interest except for a hand ful of democrats in the house. In addition Rumsfeld convince George "Patton" Bush that they could invade and within 2 years it would be wrapped up, Yah right, it took 2 years to figure out we were wayyyy over our heads, and now 10+years later at a hugh price in life and money, we're just now exiting out.
Brianb do you really believe what you post. So thats the "plan" thats going to take down American. All right wing talk. We have been hearing that for years. Keep spreading the word on the "plan". Maybe a website with people of your mindset might find you more interesting. Your not going to convert anyone here. Your a great example why our country is so great. One can say anything they want. This just came into mind. If the "plan" was being implemented, the first thing to go would be FREEDOM OF SPEECH. Damn, I just gave the start of the "plan" away.
Brian B:
As much as liberals hated GWB, he never tried to take over this country while pulling the wool over our eyes.
Unless you count the Patriot Act, the magic WMDs, the Mission Accomplished, the sanitized news coverage of 2 wars, the highly contested elections, blowing the cover of one of his own CIA operatives because her husband was critical, the no-bid Halliburton deals.
Are you for real, or are you trying to take the reins from Stephen Colbert? If so, you need more baseless bravado, and less repetitive pseudo-economic theorizing.
The "teabaggers" continue to be unaware of who the true enemies of this country are. Newtoid is the guy that they should be refusing to consider. But, in their zeal to take down this country and sell it to the highest bidder, the worst, in their teeny tiny minds, becomes their chosen leader.
You just can't make this stuff up, no one would believe it.
And Romney? He must be stamping his feet and shouting to everyone who will listen (which is apparently NO ONE!) "DON'T YOU KNOW IT IS MY TURN!"
And he can't understand that the sense of entitlement that he projects is the very reason people don't like him.
.
The tea party is but a dead man walking to the drumbeat of the Loon of the moment "full sound and fury; signifying nothing."
I thought Barack was a lousy name, but Mitt and Newt? Geez. Wotta choice.
President Mitt?
President Newt?
I dunno, Newt is even funnier - reminds me of that Gecko on TV. Maybe we should vote for the most clownish. we can't do worse. Barack was dead serious and full of promises but so far he's helped banks, insurers, and drug companies, but done not much for us.
========
I ducided to edit this coment, becuz I spelt things rong.
Just ignore the fact that Newt has been caught cheating on his multiple wives multiple times, and was censured by his own collegues for corruption. He is the epitome of American values!
Look at the quote from the National Review (itself a far right extremist publication)
As John Derbyshire points out at National Review:
Back during the 2008 presidential campaign, he told a Fox News interviewer that then-Senator Obama ought to return contributions he had received from Freddie Mac and its sister racket, Fannie Mae. Just last year Newt brought out a campaign book in which he argued for getting rid of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.
But now that it has been exposed that Freddie Mac paid Gingrich over $1.5 million to lobby conservative legislators to abandon their free-market convictions and support Freddie Mac, Newt has gone into damage-control mode.
Gingrich defended himself last week in Iowa by saying he gave Freddie "strategic advice for a long period of time." He went on to say that, "Every American should be interested in expanding housing opportunities.”
Yes, Newt Gingrich believes you are just that stupid.
He is the kid who stole $1.5 million from the cookie jar. Now he looks at us with that impish grin and blathers something about the "transformational change" he intends to bring to Washington.
Gingrich's career is not about the "change" he brings to Washington. It's about the hundreds of thousands of dollars he takes out of Washington, year after year.
This is what led another conservative, George Will, to say this weekend, "Gingrich's is an amazingly efficient candidacy in that it embodies everything that is disagreeable about modern Washington. He's the classic rental politician."
Please, Republicans, end this embarrassment and make a credible challenge to Obama.
*********************************************************************************
So he demanded Obama return money in 2008, but do you think for a moment he would return the $1.8M? I don't agree with everything George Will says, but I respect his honesty and conviction. It is clear Newty doesn't pass the sniff test.
Go Teabaggers!
Don't forget, Newt led the charge to impeach Clinton for "cheating" on Hillary....
All the while carrying on his own affair with Callista!
I don't care about his infidelities BUT I do CARE about arrogant, two faced scumbags trying to become POTUS!
Maybe corruption is a good idea. If you look at economic history, the worst financial disasters occurred under upright republican administrations. OTOH, when things were going badly, corrupt Chicago still prospered.
I say we vote for the Crookedest, most Clownish candidate out there - the Honorable Newt. Maybe we'll get a pleasant surprise ;')
Actually, despite being pigheadead at times, he's proven he can compromise, and believe it or not, the Constitution designed this republic based on compromise - that's why we have two houses, three branches, and a party system. The idea is that there be a tug of war back and forth, with compromise - although slow and imperfect and often infuriating - being preferable to the "simple" answers of dictatorship. Only the present GOP has thrown the "comprimise" idea out with the bathwater.
Funny how life imitates art. Willard played by you know who and Ben played by the Newt.
Willard has dinner with a girl he likes but is rudely interrupted by Ben staring at him. He gets up and notices all of the rats running up the stairs from the basement. He orders her to leave and locks the door before confronting Ben. Willard stalls and begins mixing rat poison, but Ben reads the box and squeals loudly, alerting the others. In an act of desperation, Willard tries to hit the rat with a broom, but misses. He runs upstairs but the other rats come after him. Shutting the door, he stands there terrified. The rats begin to gnaw at the door and eventually break in, gang up on him, and chew him up, killing him. The camera zooms into a close-up of Ben and the credits roll.
Jo-An,
Does Bill Clinton come to mind???
Jesus was the first and foremost SOCIALIST of all time!! If you all are calling President Obama a socialist, I'd say he's in some pretty good company. I rest my case for all you southern bible thumpers......
Could the author let us know what % of total Florida/S.C. voters the tea-party comprises? It would be nice to know the total tea party votes at stake that are coming in the primary/general elections.
Just go to the FL dept of education and get the percentage of the populace with IQ scores below 80 and you'll get the percentage of Tea Party members.
And SC is no better, that bag of hypocrites. Amnesty for illegals, mandated health insurance, $1.8 million from Freddie and Fannie, and they're collecting behind him like lemmings. Yelling about conservative christian values and backing a Southern Baptist who converted to Catholicism to impress his mistress. Conservative values, my butt.
Florida is one of four states in the nation with the highest prevalence of Alzheimer’s disease. That explains why a politician who has an serially discredited career and personal history is still in the running.
That Newt looks like a nice boy....He did what, that is terrible?............That Newt looks like a nice boy.....He Did what?.............That Newt looks like a nice boy...........He did what?
Some things I will never understand "Like how this pathetic man becomes a front runner as a candidate for President".
I don't understand every President since Kennedy - the last President to fight the bankers. (And the second one to fight the bankers, who got shot in the head - funny coincidence, that)
Newt is joke. Obviously the GOP has reached real desperate grounds if he is a potential candidate. He is the white Herman Cain!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA
Calling Palestinians invented people!!! Then why are they all over the bible Newt???? I thought Newt was a Christian. He is a very fat, very rich hypocrite who calls himself a Christian but doesn't know the bible. LOL
Obama all the way unless a miracle happens and Ron Paul gets the GOP bid. Ron Paul is that dude, but he won't get it because he wants what Kennedy wanted. We all know what happened to both Kennedy Brothers right??
He's the white Herman Cain but he's smarter. He marries his hoors eventually, and makes it all legal and all.
Interesting point, Jim.
Well all the kids that were behind Ron Paul will vote for Obama as Paul despises newt and the young voters arent party loyal....if the GOP runs newt...it will be the most EMBARRASSING thing to happen to there party in well a couple of months....so its a done deal...
OBAMA2012!!!!!
You're wrong jennifer. The people behind Ron Paul will only vote for Ron Paul. They want real change, not empty promises.
so, if paul isn't hte GOP nominee, all the ron paul supporters are going to not vote? how do you know that?
sorry..you are wrong....my kids and nephew and their friends are for Ron Paul...but if he doesnt stand a chance...they will vote Obama.....we talked about it last night...and they could not believe that Newt was even up there...the GOP is dead!!!
If Newt runs against Obama, and he has a brain, he'll bring up the Fact that not One major bankster has been prosecuted by him and his buddy Geithner, although a thousand were prosecuted under Bush Sr. for a Much smaller disaster, after the S&L collapse.
This is the banker's President. He is NOT for the people, and I voted for him.
But an intelligent man can admit his mistake ;')
Besides, I am much more against the Banksters than I am For the Deadocratic Party, which ain't done much for the middle class they profess to be a part of, while they take Kabillions from corporate interests.
What I meant was the majority of people backing Paul, including myself, will write him in if he's not the nominee. There is no real difference between Obama, Gingrich, or Romney. I refuse to vote for more government and more war.
Newt's been around a lot longer (age 68) than Obama - doubt he'll want to go there on the S&L debacle.
November, 1988--George Bush (#1) elected President. S&L problem not part of election debate.
1989--President Bush unveils S&L bailout plan in February.
http://www.fdic.gov/bank/historical/s&l/
Actually, I agree. The only candidate I would vote for over Obama is Ron Paul. If they nominate Newt, there's no chance I'm voting for that fool.
Jennifer,
Within the Republican Party there are a few camps of people, those who say "anyone but Obama", those who say "Ron Paul can never win so I'm voting for...", and those who are in the camp of "I don't care about principles, I'm voting for the most electable Republican so Obama doesn't win in 2012."
What many are not taking into account is the power Ron Paul and his supporters now have on the 2012 Presidential election.
One of three things is going to happen:
1. Ron Paul doesn't get the nomination and runs as a third party candidate: The new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll suggests Ron Paul would win 18 percent as a third-party candidate running against Obama and Romney. Obama wins.
2. Ron Paul drops out: fervent and stubborn Ron Paul supporters stay home or write him in. Obama wins.
3. Ron Paul gets the GOP nomination: Ron Paul gets the following voters:
(a. 2008 Obama voters who thought they were going to get 'Change',
(b. 2008 Obama voters who voted to end the wars,
(c. the VAST majority of the Independent vote,
(d. the entire GOP voting block who dislikes Obama enough to vote for Ron Paul instead.
(e. Ron Paul supporters coming out to vote in DROVES. Ron Paul wins.)
So if the main goal is just to make sure Obama isn't in office for another term, then Republicans are seriously going to need learn more about Ron Paul and find the common ground they have with him as opposed to what they don't like.
IF.....(and there is reason to doubt this) the GOP wants to WIN in 2012, they need to UNDERSTAND THIS;
For Ron Paul supporters, there is no "falling in line" to support the party HACK.
It's RON PAUL.......or NO ONE at all!
So the GOP/RNC are the ones who need to fall in line BEHIND RON PAUL.........anything less, splits the vote, and LOSES the White House.
Listen GOP Voters ! Romney is the nominee ! It's been decided !
Now get in Line and SHUT UP !
Sincerely-
Mark Avellian
I hope you are right! I know the non Tea Bagger Republicans and the 1% want Romney! If I was him I would fire my election committee and get some real heavy weights, he is flush with cash!
Romney - a man with even Less personality than Obama. I recall when the Dumbocrats ran Kerry, who had the personality of dead wood - they didn't do to well.
Not even close my friend. Ron Paul won the CA straw poll with 83%. DO you know how many delegates California has?
Who were they polling in Cali?? That "straw poll" is not being plastered across our news.
It's called a MEDIA BLACKOUT, Cassandra. How often does Ron Paul make the news? How often does he say something newsworthy?
In Cali's case, it's more of an interest blackout. Sure, people are putting "RonPaul" on bedsheets over the freeways, but it's a small group that cares to care.
Just about the time you Ron Paul supporters get somewhere its " Media Blackout" I know I know its the Liberal Press ,I've see all the space he gets on Faux.
This shows that, contrary to the long held belief that you have to have a strong campaign team behind you, all it really takes to do well in a Republican Presidential campaign is for the candidate to be a complete piece of garbage.
Newt has the exquisite ability to implode at regular intervals. The only question will be whether or not Romney can hang in long enough before the next Newtplosion.
Yes, his veins are bulging, his head is ready to explode!
Can't wait to see it!
Newtplosion!
Doesn't matter, in substance. GW made one Incredibly stupid remark after another, but the press gave him a pass, since the powers that be wanted him in office.
So I guess it depends on whether the press gives him a pass. Since he's "always willing to make a deal" Newt, the corporations might figure he's even more amenable than our present banker-loving President.
But no matter who gets elected, they'll know which side their bread is buttered on, and it won't be ours. OWS is right. Democracy is a money-sham, and your vote is a joke.
People shouldn't be party loyal. They should be candidate loyal. I'm not democrat or republican because at the end of the day we are all Americans. I see Newt as the type of guy to go rape and pillage places with no remorse. I see Newt letting Iran become the next Iraq and spreading more bloodshed. I see Newt talking about how the Palestinians are an invented people when they are all over the Bible......hahahahaha
And Newt is supposed to be a Bible follower??????? Maybe he needs to go read it first?????
Newt is pathetic and the GOP is very pathetic and desparate if they make him their guy. But they are kinda lost now, their other savior Herman Cain, Mr. Electrified, just quit so they can't figure out who is their man now. To show you how lost the GOP is, they don't even care who wins as long as its not Obama, its just ABO (Anybody but Obama) at this point. Talk about Chickens with their Heads cut off......
As a left winger I am delighted with the Newt ascendency. It really is beginning to look a lot like Christmas. I mean jobs for the under 14 year old population working in iron ore mines on the Moon....how could you not be delighted?
"If I am elected, I promise to kick our cancer-ridden country to the curb so I can dork a young chickie. Oops, sorry, I was thinking about my marriage. My mistake." --Newt Gingrich
omg Newt..bwahahahahah
You may not be laughing when President Newt puts his hands on that bible ;')
Since I think every President since Kennedy has been a disaster, I'm all for the Clown President. Could he be Worse than make-war George Bush? destroy-social-services Clinton? help-the-bankers Obama? clueless Bush-senior? dithering Carter? (who started that Southern I-hate-the-nation thing, which has been a disaster ever since.)
Actually, Eisenhower was good - he was moderate, not a nutcase, and built the interstate, which enriched us all.
Nixon was even preferable. He was more liberal than the current Deadocratic Party. He actually proposed a guaranteed annual wage, which every dem on congress and the President would shudder at now. He was the Last middle-class President. The rest have privilege and noblesse-oblige written all over them. Yes, that includes GW, the old beer-buddy. Do you think his family was poor or without influence? Gimmee a break.
So Eisenhower was good. Kennedy was good. Nixon was good for the middle class, but a tossup due to Watergate. Everyone after that was a boner, IMHO.
In your opinion? LOL The bunch the Repubnuts have running for the Presidency are crazy.. to say the least. Newt is a HUGE JOKE, as well as all of the others. Is this the best the Repubnuts have to offer??? .... sad situation!!!
It amazes me that people still stick to their party. Is their really a going to be a change from Obama with Gingrich or Romney? No. We'll still be policing the world and running up our debt all the while destroying our dollar. Look at whats going on with the euro. The dollar will be next if real change isn't brought to D.C.
Did we get to vote in 2004, or is George W. Obama still President?
Ron Paul is the only one who stands a chance to win against Obama. The GOP and media better start realizing this and stop trying to stuff Newt down everyone's throat. Newt is the one who is unelectable. We all know he's a crook
Newt paid to have his a$$hole bleached with taxpayers money!!! Yup, go vote for that!! Bunch of idiots!!!
The media loves a show. It sells papers. They'll push this clown as far as they can. Ron Paul is Boring - he simply states facts, ma'am. (that's from Sergeant Friday on Dragnet, so I'm dating myself ;')
So the South supports a moral and ethical train-wreck like Gingrich. Big deal. When haven't they supported the most abysmal candidate possible? Let me know when they decide to get educated, use their heads for something other than a hat rack, and actually learn about something that isn't specific to their region. THAT will be a newsworthy event.
I say Lincoln made a mistake. We should have dropped the rubes South of the Mason-Dixon like hot potatoes, and we'd have a Civilized nation.
And give Texas back to Mexico - since they send the most maroonic types to Washington.
After Sanford, SC is probably just used to that sort of thing.
Lincoln should have let them go. The slaves would have made a beeline for the North, and the South would have fallen further into poverty and begged to come back into the Union. But if they did not, oh well, win-win.
I'm not sure how the South was like back then, but these days if they decide to leave, most of us would be happy to see them go.
I am from the south and I have lived in non-southern states for many years as an adult. Ignorance is bliss throughout this country whether you have a southern accent or a yankee accent or no accent at all. You three have just proven your ignorance and you are part of the problem in this country. Hatred, ignorance, and prejudices are rampant and yes, I am white. You have just espoused all three of these evils in your posts. I thought the civil war was over a long time ago... if you are not an "American", then we really don't want to hear what you have to say. Go back into your holes...
(A) 2008 Obama voters who thought they were going to get 'Change'
(B) 2008 Obama voters who voted to end the wars.
(C) The VAST majority of the Independent vote,
(D) The entire GOP voting block who dislikes Obama enough to vote for Ron Paul instead.
(E) Ron Paul supporters coming out to vote in DROVES.
(F) Same-sex couples who want to be set free.
(G) Democratic, disillusioned Anti-Drug war voters.
(H) Libertarians.
Ron Paul and America wins!
In your dreams baby! Ron Paul will never win.
As a Democrat...I think you guys (GOP) dropped the ball by not backing Paul....the young kids LOVE him...why did he not get more support....there is NO WAY newt will win...1/2 his support will be dead by the election...and old GOPers like my mom hate him...she wont vote..(she sat out 2008 too)
CU4
love your entusiasm -but let me leave you with one word: D-E-L-U-S-I-O-N-A-L!
Ron Paul would dismantle social security and medicare.
American will never vote for that
Dismantle social security and medicare? You have no idea what your talking about. He's morally opposed to taking money from one individual and giving it to another, yes. But, he's always said as president he wouldn't touch these programs.
Ron Paul gets the vote from anyone who wants Goldman-Sachs Tim Geithner out of office. (He's the Real President.)
Timmy Geithner: "Jump Obama, jump! Jump for your Banker masters!"
Obama: "How high?"
C4LCNCPLS at last somebody whose post has some SANITY and CLARITY!You are 100% RIGHT!
As it stands now this country is in the hands of SOCIALIST Gangsters, starting with Obama right on down. These people cheer leading on here for this bunch better be careful what they wish for. They're in for a Rude Awakening with this, One, if he wins again!
The more I look at Ron Paul the better and better his Platform is beginning to sound.I see this man as the OLD MAN WITH A LOT OF COMMON SENSE.I wish the rest of the people in this country would get their heads out of there collective asses and see what this Man has to really offer.
However with the way these people are brow beaten and brainwashed, that won't happen.
My only wish right now is for Ron Paul to become President of the United States. As it stands now this once great country is in pathetic shape and I'll go so far as to say in danger. When that happens you get every kind of Riff Raff coming in claiming that they'll make this country great again. All that's going on right now with this Obama and the Gang is violating thee hell out of your civil rights, and running them into the ground using the Constitution as toilet paper, and ransacking this once great country.
That's what Gangsters do.So I'm going to vote this time, for Ron Paul and I'll Hope. What you said is Exactly Right, Ron Paul and America Wins!Because if Obama gets in again,KISS THIS COUNTRY GOOD BYE AS YOU KNOW IT.
Thanks for the Great Post,a breath of fresh air!
Dude you don't want Ron Paul. He was friends with Abe Lincoln, he's tooooo old.
UM Mr. Wonderful, have you ever heard of the saying OLD AND WISE!No No in this man's case the Older the Wiser!
You can't judge a book by it's cover Son!
since Paul will be older when Inaugurated then Reagan was when he left office...
I can judge his cover - it is worn!
Patriotism knows no age. Dr. Paul rides his bike 25+ miles several times per week, writes books, lectures, and has a whirl wind debate schedule.
Age is not an issue I am at all concerned with. Generally people who have lived longer tend to learn more than those who have lived less.
This whole 'ron is old' crap, is such a retarded way to think. The man is in tip top shape, and he once challenged any of them to a bike ride in 100 degree heat and none of them accepted. He has what it takes to repair this failing county and you know all it, yet you want to stand behind some vile snake who has done nothing but connive, steak, lobby and go against everything this country stands for. Newt has absolutely no morals at all and he tells people what they want to hear.

Read this if you care about your country and where your vote is going:
I guarantee you after reading it all, you'll be mortified as to exactly what Gingrich is, and change your mind quite quickly. Enough with the 'he is the only one who can beat Obama in a debate' crap. Is that your main reason to vote for someone? All because of a stupid debate? Ron Paul would destroy Obama in a debate. Why? Because he would speak THE TRUTH, and that cuts through anything. How could Gingrich speak the truth when all he has ever done is lie about his positions, demagogue, flip fop, switch back and forth on so many policies, and be a flat out hypocrite for much of his career? He would be handing the election to Obama on a silver platter if you think he and dems aren't aware of his past garbage. He is going to make Newt and whole party look utterly embarrassed and we will have him for four more years. Gingrich's poll numbers were being over inflated by the horrendous media, because they fear Ron Paul so badly, because he will end all of their corruption and truth distortion, which is all stemming from the big banks and corps who own them. He is their last hope since the rest all fell on their face and they have no one left to prop up anymore. Are you going to allow them to keep pushing this rotter politician down our throats and buy into their warped game? Gingrich was nowhere 2 months ago. His campaign is still in debt, he has no ground game, barely any offices in the early states, then suddenly sky rockets? The media (and the GOP) is hyping him and putting out distored polls to stop Ron Paul and you people are allowing it to happen and letting the media tell you who to vote for all because of fabricated polls showing him in 1st place. You have another thing coming if you think the main stream media doesnt do all it can to control the elections. WAKE UP, BECAUSE THERE ISNT MUCH TIME LEFT.
John McCain did horrible for most all of 2007. He was in the low single digits, and his campaign was in debt and had no money. Similar to Newt Gingrich! Then what happens? Late November/Early December 2007 rolls around, right before the Iowa caucuses, John McCains poll numbers suddenly shoot up out of nowhere and he becomes the media darling, despite a failed and debt ridden campaign up until then. Just like Newt Gingrich! But remarkably, McCain got the nomination. Despite a horrible year of campaigning. They dont want Romney (just like last time) and they fear Ron Paul more than anything. Like McCain,
Newt is the 'establishment republican' (basically, a big governemt, pro-war neo-con) who will drive this country into the ground worse than Bush did. It is obvious they are being privately funded (most likely illegaly too, from their globalist CFR friends).
People dont know enough about Newt and that is why they sheepishly support him. If they knew about how horrendous his voting record is and WHAT he has voted for, and that he is basically a closet communist with all these lunatic ideas he wants to implement and that everything he has attained has been through backroom dealing, conniving and lobbying, they wouldn't be supporting his vile self. The guy is a psychopath and very dangerous and you people need to preach that to anyone supporting him. Here are two wonderful sites to spread around that show just what he is about, one being a great detailed breakdown, the other more of a consolidated list. If you truly care about your country's future, you will take the time to look this over and you will be mortified about what the media wishes to keep hiding from you, and youll see that he is anything but a constitutionalist or conservative.
He is a socialist nutcase, is what he is, and always has been.
Who will Newtie pick for his running mate? Pull a McCain and add Palin's intelligent-yet-odd sister, Bachmann? Ugh.
Ron Paul is looking to be another Ross Perot, he'll split the vote, Obama will be a shoo-in.
be dune. This guys cover isn't worn. It's what's underneath that counts. He maybe pushing 80, but in this day age it is by no means saying he's washed up.
He can run rings around both of us.
Let me enlighten you on one more thing b dune. With the way the economy is people will be working well into their 80's.Don't let this old age crap fool you.A lot of it is bull sh it and it's not cracked up to what it's suppose to be.
Being old today isn't like it was 30 years ago.Things have changed in this country. You can't AFFORD TO GET OLD!
Nice lectures from all of you on Pauls age....
Don't let "reality" enter into the picture - that would cloud the issue...the demands of this office aren't condusive to someone in their 80's......
But you all keep on keepin on....
It is getting pretty scary when Michelle Bachman is starting to sound like the one with brains at the debates. Except for her Obamacare chanting. Noone has told her about the billion or so it has already saved. And they whine about cutting Medicare when Ryan doesn't want to reduce it he wants to end it along with all social programs. I think in his life some poetic justice will eventually head his way. Apparently he has never wanted for anything. He will someday. That is the way it works. And wouldn't it be funny it is wasn't there when he needs it. Kinda makes you change your way of thinking. Poor little rich guy, Paul Ryan. Who votes for people like him?
Spent four trillion, but Obamacare has saved one billion, ktlin? You really believe that bs?
Eighty-four ethics charges were filed against Speaker Gingrich during his term, including claiming tax-exempt status for a college course run for political purposes. Following an investigation by the House Ethics Committee Gingrich was sanctioned. Gingrich acknowledged in January 1997 that "In my name and over my signature, inaccurate, incomplete and unreliable statements were given to the committee". The House Ethics Committee concluded that inaccurate information supplied to investigators represented "intentional or ... reckless" disregard of House rules. The special Counsel concluded that Gingrich violated federal tax law and had lied to the ethics panel in an effort to force the committee to dismiss the complaint against him. He has always been about the money. All the charges did not prove true, but he is always up to something.
Yeah I don't want him in the White House having a "reckless" disregard of the Presidency and rule of law! Do we really need another Nixon????
Every President lies and breaks law. Nixon just got caught, and he looked so villianous with that unshaved face, he was an easy target ;')
But Nixon was the last middle class President, and proposed a guaranteed annual wage, something present Deadocrats, and our patrician banker-loving PresidOnt would laugh at.
Clinton was a meritocrat, and that's great if you have his IQ, but don't forget he skewered welfare, not thinking the economy might crash and we might need it.
Nixon had a terrible flaw, but frankly, I think he was more on the side of the middle class than anyone since.
I am at a quandry because the left thinks Obama favors the bankers and the bankers think Obama doesn't cater to them at all. Actually I think he is in the middle of the road where a president should be. I think the biggest problem is that the lobbyists are mad at him because they couldn't buy him and they are still pouting and doing everything they can to make him fail. But honestly I think Obama has God on his side. that is what happens when you do what is right and you live with values. Good Job Obama no matter what propaganda or smear job some do. We could be in a lot worse mess couldn't we? But noone thinks of that. I wonder how many times McCain would have had to suspend his presidency by now to deal with something? And just think Palin would still be poor and not have a job at Fox News, the Australian news network.
Pathetic... all of the GOP/Tea party candidates.
The left thanks you so very very much.
What a hoot it will be watching President Obama eat alive any of them. LOL
Have a GREAT day! :-)))))))
I'd love watching Ron Paul debate Obama on civil liberties and executive power. That would be a great day.
Boy what a Sight to Behold!I'd love to see it to.
If it's Newtie in the end, while I think it's likely President Obama will win re-election, Newt is the one slick debater that Obama will need to watch his back on.
Newt has been a jerk for 30-some years, never liked him, right up with John Bonehead Boehner of Ohio. But he's got to be taken seriously as a threat, and methodically discredited.
Actually Obama will do fine IF he prepares for the dirty underhanded attacks Newt will launch. I learned finally that you have to go prepared for battle but you don't have to use the weapons. That is what President Obama needs to do. Newt Gingrich is a big hypocrite. While working to impeach Clinton he was having an affair with Callista, a congressional staffer AT THE VERY SAME TIME. While exposing the check kiting scandal, he wrote 22 checks AT THE VERY SAME TIME. While the Freddie and Fannie fiasco was going on he was making 1.6 million from them AT THE VERY SAME TIME. While he was complaining about universal healthcare he was collecting multimillions from the doctors for the Center for Health Transformation AT THE VERY SAME TIME. And Cain was criticized for adulterous scandals. Newt has had several. Plus more, more, more. How many ignorant people do we have in America who can't read or check things out. We will see if the ignorant prevail and does he think CAllista is pretty enough to be First Lady? He said his first wife wasn't. Classy fellow right?. I think Newt needs glasses too Anyone seen her nose?. Who in America would hire anyone who wrote 22 bad checks including one to the IRS for over 9,000? Nobody. So why would they even consider nominating him for president let alone electing him. Has America lost its senses. At least the radical right?
They have been fed so much propaganda they need a good shake up don't they. I would bet on Obama hands down. Some people like Newt have the ability to mouth off but some people like Barack Obama have the ability to think and to accomplish what he sets out to do. I don't want America to have even the slightest chance of having Newt in office and I doubt he wants the job either cause it doesn't pay enough but it would be fun to watch the brain engage the mouth. Newt isn't known for his smarts after all.
He will, he'll absolutely destroy any that's in this grouping of GOP hopefuls
