Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney (L) speaks as former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) looks on during the Republican Party presidential candidates debate at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
Last updated at 11:32 p.m. ET.
The emerging political rivalry between Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney simmered during Saturday night's GOP presidential debate, but at no point boiled over during the two-hour gathering.
The former House speaker and the former Massachusetts governor sniped at each other throughout the debate, seeking to draw contrasts with each other at a debate at Drake University just 24 days before Iowans participate in the state's Jan. 3 caucuses.
The other four presidential hopefuls, meanwhile, took turns piling on Gingrich, the newly-minted frontrunner according to polls, and Romney, the candidate who's been consistently toward the top of the field throughout the campaign, but hasn't been able to seal the deal with conservatives.
The Gingrich-Romney spat was most stark during the first half hour of the debate, when Romney and Gingrich went at each other over their own political backgrounds. Romney stressed his private sector experience versus GIngrich's time in Congress.
RELATED: Gingrich in spotlight in pivotal debate
"Let's be candid: the only reason you didn't become a career politician is because you lost to Teddy Kennedy in 1994," Gingrich said in response, delivering a zinger in Romney's direction. "It's a bit much; you'd have been a 17-year career politician if you'd won."
Romney also lampooned some of Gingrich's more unconventional policy proposals.
"Speaker Gingrich and I have a lot of areas where we disagree," Romney said. "We can start with his idea to have a lunar colony that would mine minerals from the moon."
The two candidates sparred lightly throughout the rest of the debate, all while weathering criticism from the rest of the field.
Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann linked Gingrich and Romney together on the issue of a health insurance mandate, coining a new moniker to tie Romney and Gingrich together. She said the answer for GOP voters "is Michele Bachmann, not 'Newt Romney.'"
Romney faced criticism, too, from Perry — his main opponent in past debates this fall — over the health reform plan he installed as governor. Perry renewed criticism based on a line in an edition of a book written by Romney, prompting the former Massachusetts governor to offer a $10,000 bet with Perry. It was an eyebrow-raising moment, given the optics of a multimillionaire offering to make a hefty bet, considering the Romney campaign's intent focus on the economy and the middle class.
The Democratic National Committee (DNC), which has been dogged in its criticism of Romney during the primary, picked up on the moment, emailing reporters a list of items the average American family could buy with $10,000.
"Mitt Romney is going to rue the day he offered a $10,000 bet in this debate," said a senior Democratic Party strategist. "Talk about a window in to his out-of-touch soul. And he did it in the same debate where he again called the payroll tax cut for the middle class a temporary band-aid."
The debate had been expected to feature sparring between Gingrich and Romney, each of whom are jockeying for the top spot in the polls. Romney's campaign previewed tonight's showdown by unleashing a wave of criticism of Gingrich the second half of this week.
But the other candidates also sought to use the debate as an opportunity to make a move in the polls, with precious days separating tonight's debate and the beginning of the voting process.
That meant more criticism of Gingrich, who's leapfrogged the pack and to the lead in a variety of state and national polls released this week.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry, for instance, made a thinly-veiled reference to Gingrich's three marriages and past infidelity. Perry said that the candidates' personal lives should be an element for consideration by primary voters.
"if you cheat on your wife, you'll cheat on your business partner," said Perry, who's been making a play of late for social conservative voters in Iowa. "I think that issue of fidelity is important."
And the moderators added new scrutiny of Gingrich, too. The former Speaker found himself under newfound scrutiny at this debate associated with his ascendancy in the polls. He was pressed, for instance, by moderators about his statement this week calling Palestinians an "invented" people.
Gingrich stood by that characterization, and even went further in his characterization of some Palestinian groups: "These people are terrorists."
But the emerging Romney-Gingrich feud was the most closely-watched plot line of the debate, the 12th among Republicans during this primary cycle. While their exchanges weren't always the most fiery, another debate in Iowa scheduled for Thursday could further the divide between the two of them.
Romney perhaps best summed up his criticism of Gingrich in a later exchange between the two over Israel: "I'm not a bomb-thrower, rhetorically or literally."
The debate setting has been where Gingrich, whose debt-saddled campaign was left for dead this summer after suffering a mass resignation by senior staff, has thrived. His resurgence has been driven by strong debate showings.
These gatherings have been of unusual influence in the primary, in part due to the fluidity in the polls. A majority of Republicans in key primary states said in a poll this week that they still may change their mind.
The debate was broadcast on ABC and co-sponsored by the Des Moines Register.
Newt Gingrich leads the polls, but he's facing direct attacks from Mitt Romney's allies about a life marred by ethical and personal controversy. NBC's Mike Viqueira reports.

"Newt Romney" - Bachman, run with it!!!
Just run AWAY, Bachmann, and take the rest of the GOP clown crew with you, thank you.
Take Obama with you to he can be your waterboy!!
Romney evidently didn't like the private sector. He ran for the Senate. He ran and won as governor. Now he's running for the presidency, his second attempt.
I just realized that Michele Bachmann is 55 years old. She looks like she's in her 30's. I always thought she was pretty and dresses really well. She's way more attractive than Sarah P that's for sure. And I love the red hair. It's just too bad she's insane. And that voice. ugh
The men on that stage are all ugly and clueless and completely out of touch with normal fair minded thinking Americans.
Mr. President will tear either Mitt or Newt to shreds because he won't be about talking points or making things up. He'll be the man with the only experience that counts. He'll be the man who has first hand knowledge of everything. He'll be the man who continues to clean up their mess.
Americans will see that. Clearly.
And to think - he's younger than Newt and Mitt. And better looking. And smarter. Newt is a big mouthed jerk. Mitt is empty. As people on the internets are saying, he's vacant.
How many years in total is it for Newt and Mitt since both had a normal job? I'd like to see that figure. It seems to me all they do is run for the presidency every 4 years now.
President Obama will shine against either of them. On accomplishments alone. And he won't brag about himself, like Mitt & Gingrich keep doing about themselves.
Has Obama ever had a normal job? haha
*yawn*
We are no where near re-run season, which begs the question WHY I have seen this dog & pony show... over & over & over & over & over AGAIN?
Pat..Boston.....Newt would wipe the floor with Obama......without his teleprompter he is a blabbering idiot....
Followed the tweets and am watching a "B" movie on Syfy. By the way, Newt is insane. Just thought I would bring that up.
Ahh, Saturday night and RWNJ's are flying high!
dixie girl, here we go with the teleprompter thing. That's a made up GOP talking point. From who? Luntz?
Newtie is full of crap. He always was.
And speaking of Christmas and Winter Wonderland ...
Marshmallows roasting on an open fire - that's what I think whenever I see Mr. & the Mrs. Gingrich's heads of hair.
And speaking of Christmas, I don't believe Jesus was born on December 25th. I don't believe he was born in December. Things just don't add up.
But that's for another time. Perhaps when we revisit the war on Christmas which the GOP love to push - it should be any day now.
Pat:
Poor dixie girl is too ignorant to know that the right wing leadership nutjobs don't want Newtoid as their candidate.
dixie girl. i beg to differ. first obama has not used a teleprompter plenty of times. and second newt will stick his foot in his mouth plenty against a real debater like obama. don't forget obama is a lawyer and was head of the harvard law review. so i really think ya need to quit watching fox and pay attention to REAL news. newt would be the best thing that could happen to obama and the dems. not only would he get crushed but the GOP will lose more senate seats then they will anyway and the house will be a lopsided victory for the dems. i suggest youwake up and smell the tea. BTW it's black tea.
The one thing the gop candidatesall agree on is that we need to get rid of that pee-pants Obama so we can scale down on all the entitlement programs that only spawn fraud !
dji, people in the GOP don't recognize intelligence. They only recognize talking points.
Hasn't Michele Bachmann made a mint off of entitlement programs?
Dixie girl or ditzy girl seems to fit better... whats with you guys and teleprompters? As if no one has ever used one. I swear some wind-bag says it on t.v then you morons run with it. I would rather have a President with the foresight to use one than end up looking like, Perry, Bush, Palin, Bachman, Cain, man my hand is cramping, how about any Repub. I mean you guys really do celebrate the ignorant then pat yourselves on the back for "zingers" .
And as far as a debate between the two, Newt and President Obama, Newt doesn't need a prompter cause everything he says like all Republicans is usually false and made up on the fly so idiots such as yourself can applaud and high five each other while sane people are left wondering what the heck your talking about in the first place.
Hard to Debate a 11yo about serious issues.... Newt is the 11yo, I figured I would have to spell that one out for you.
Peace
@Pat
If it is more than a bumper sticker, the GOP base can't get it.
Re: Has President Obama ever had a job: I always get a kick out of people who contemptuously dismiss him has a "community organizer". Funny how that is what the spin machine likes to focus on as opposed to being a law professor. I do like watching the mostly unlikable people in the primary turn into cannibals on stage. The only ones i have any respect for are Paul and Huntsman, so we're down to one. It will come down to a choice between the most fake individual I have ever seen (Romney) versus the most known corrupt man to be considered in a national election since Johnson (Newt), no small feat.
why would anyone take any of these republicans seriously,maybe Bill Clinton will will direct newt the kook to the back back of the bus or air plane once again so we the people don't have to listen to his rubbish any more.this guy is a danger to the public for sure and should be examined by a psychologist.he could be a star in the show natural born loser for sure.
After reading all the comments above and below I find that I was right for the 2nd time tonight. First on who would win the Heisman Trophy and the fact that the GOP has gone insane.
@Rick-1103809
Newt more than likely doesn't have small feet (or feats) I'm sure they both match his big mouth and head!
I can not believe that with this mans history and baggage, any one sane person, would consider him as the leader of this country. The "invention of the Palistian" comment earlier today was a typical off the top of his head remark that shows this man is out of touch with 99% of the American people.
Careful what you wish for Republicans!
On character and family: "I'm an old man, it wasn't my fault........." ........ lol
Wow! Just WOW! Romney got his arse handed to him by Newt. The $10000 bet doomed his already unlikable campaign. Paul is the only option really and truly but he is invisible. Gingrich is stringing the GOP/TP right along like the Devil with a fiddle. God really does have a GREAT since of humor!
Feisty,
your just a glutton for punishment girl....;-)
ron paul was the clear winner.even with the control press giving the most air time to the devil himself girginch
Pat,
Conservatives are nothing more than closet Socialists.
Unfortunatly on this site I see no intelligent adult thinking at all. Name calling like a 5 yr old doesn't make you right I fear for America with this as the electorate
Pig Man,
Not to get off subject but, Clinton lying on camera about the BJ broke that fantasy. I don't think the dems can compete with anyone else with moral values. That is what Left means isn't it.
soundbite, absolutely.
Who the heck makes $10,000 bets?
Only two kinds of people: Rich people. And people with a gambling problem.
Mitt is so out of touch. You can see it in his body language. We all see it.
$10,000.
Pat, good point. I am a 99er so I did not catch it. Maybe I'm a 1%, hell I can't remember. I gotta job, which one is that?
These continuous debates are interesting, but until somebody steps into that office you will never know how they will behave. After about 1 mo in office, Obama made a revealing comment about the job. He said he was surprised how quickly things come up. That is shocking to me. I can't imagine there is 1 second of any day that there isn't some sort of emergency.
Candidate Obama had jump in his step, sneered at his predecessor, and floated out all sorts of ideas that would bring about huge changes he and the democrats believe will make a better America.
Today we have a president that unless the words are written for him, cannot spontaneously talk on any issue without literally getting stuck in thought. It could be he is afraid to say the wrong thing, or it could be he really isn't a very good communicator because he doesn't know the issues in detail. What I am saying is that I have never learned anything from listening to him. That is really sad. He looks good, but says nothing of substance - ever.
It must be obvious now that finding a strong leader is very hard to do. They just don't pop up often and unfortunately the world, and most especially the US really needs one now. Unfortunately neither party has a strong candidate. It doesn't mean they aren't all good men and 1 woman, but we need the entire package now. The next decade isn't going to be pretty.
lonereb
This is hardly a cross section of the electorate,
First off if you have ever looked at a FR poll you would understand that FR is mostly liberal,
Mostly democrat,
There are a few independents sprinkled about but most of them lean liberal also,
There are a few BRAVE conservatives around, some of them are even liked,
But most are ridiculed as looney....
Me, I fall somewhere way far below the last one above....
Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich are role cast as the establishment politicians. Gingrich WAS a career politician but couldn't succeed at it. Mitt Romney wanted to be a career politician but couldn't get in. Listening to Newt is like being stuck in Groundhog Day. Bill Murray would be a better president.
Rick Perry seems lost - he cannot think on his feet and only tries to deliver scripted talking points. Perry grew up 'poor' (yes, it shows - nothing wrong with that either). If Perry would stop trying to act 'sophisticated' and just speak from the heart, he would do much better. Perry won't be able to overcome a lifetime of pretending he is something he is not.
Michele Bachmann is still the only candidate running for the primary contest. She does not yet sound presidential but she is not yet running for president, either. Bachmann is focused on winning primaries which is the task at hand. She probably helped her campaign quite a bit tonight.
Rick Santorum comes across as an aggressive Tim Pawlenty. Santorum is probably a nice guy - he just is not ready for big league politics.
Ron Paul presented his view of the Confederacy again. Not too surprising since Paul likely grew up among people that had experienced the Civil War and Paul certainly grew up among people that experienced reconstruction. Paul may be a good Confederate but I doubt he is anywhere near a Jeff Davis. 19th century politics simply will not work in the 21st century.
Overall this ABC debate sounded like the debates in the 1970's and 1980's. All retread talking points and policies that never worked the first time. What a wasted two hours ...
alright Nerm_L I'll bite,,,,,
If Ron Paul is a confederate from the 19th century spouting (ahem)18th century politics, why is it the country is still ran under those 18th century political rules? Why don't we have some 21st century rules to live by?
Why don't you give us an example of 21st century rules that would be better?
Giving the many lies, mistakes, Solyndra, Fast and Furious, criminal cronies and blatant cronyism, inexperience, false accusations, inability to keep promises (i.e. where's the "transparency"), fueling racism and class warfare, ties with radical anti-Americans, a flaccid voting record as Senator, a bystander approach as President, and countless other failings and shortcomings of this administration, I cannot understand how the blind followers are still so eager to keep the Big O in office. Likewise, I'm questioning the Republicans ability to find a qualified candidate. Pathetic politics as usual.
Obama has no experience he has amply demonstrated that. Just sitting behind a desk, letting a country go down the tubes is not experience. Experience is by definition is active participation in events or activities, leading to the accumulation of knowledge or skill: a lesson taught by experience.
We can all agree that Obama did not accumulate knowledge or skill to be a president. Not ending quickly two wars, getting the U.S. involved in a third war, wasting trillions of dollars and choosing Biden as a running mate who just gave away $529 million dollars to Finnish car company, assures Obama's place in the history books as an inept politician. If he couldn't work with his own party how could he get a consensus with a split congress? Being a politician means sitting down and giving some and getting some. Doing some arm twisting and kissing some ass. Going along to get along. Ronald Reagan was a master at that. Obama is just an incompetent who was at the right place at the right time and the republican party owed old McCain and let him have the nomination which he promptly screwed up by naming Palin. Same thing happened with Carter. People were angry at Nixon/Ford and gave it to that incompetent Carter. And if you look at Clinton's first election he lost the popular vote by 14 million votes to Bush/Perot both conservatives.
So if you go back in history you really don't find a competent democratic president until Truman. Remember Kennedy lead the U.S. down the road to VietNam and couldn't take out a young dictator Castro and almost lead us into a nuclear holocaust. And of course he had the morals of an tomcat just like Clinton.
Somebody tell us all again something good Newt has done in the past besides all the bad stuff?? And why is he qualified again?? Besides debatin skills...
I sure hope my liberal friends are right that there's no chance Blingrich will be elected President and is the preferred choice to run against Obama. If Romney wasn't already sunk, that frickin $10,000 bet sunk him but good- totally idiotic....
Hey Pig man logo, Can you relate anything wonderful that Obama has accomplished?
How long before Donna is collapsed because of her exaggerations and outright lies??
Now stop your blabbering and hope that the anti-woman misogynistic Blingrich train doesn't run over you!!!!! (if you're really a woman that is ..... we have many posers and transvestites here)
Don't you just love conservative spin? How about, he AVOIDED a nuclear holocaust by strategically positioning the US against the USSR aggression? Or would you prefer that nuclear missiles have been based on Cuba?
You know, we might just need a strong willed experienced person to run this country regardless of party affiliation. We certainly don't have it with Obama. 2 years as senator and 3 years as president hasn't taught him much. But then he may be a slow learner and I don't want to give him 4 more years of on the job experience.
----Now let's hear your idiotic Teabagging response!!!! OBAMA 2012
What's the deal here? How come all you lefty liberals are home on a Saturday night? Again.
Hardly a single mention of Ron Paul in the whole article.
Most of the Independent voters I know prefer Paul to any of the others. He seems to be the only one with real conviction and opinions, unlike Romney who appears to be just a stuffed suit and speaks in vague terms about pretty much everything.
@Egilman -- Yes, Ron Paul is promoting the same ideas used to 'justify' secession and creation of the Confederacy. Ron Paul's arguments are based on the Articles of Confederation more than they are based on the Constitution. The secessionists used the same arguments ...
Rules and regulations are exactly what the country needs. You do realize that those regulations were not just created by a bunch of bureaucrats to punish business. Those regulations came about because of almost 200 years of unregulated business practices. In the 18th century, an unregulated business could harm a few acres of land. Technology has advanced to the point that now an unregulated business could kill a coastline or an entire state. An unregulated industry can kill the entire economy.
The only way to return to those 18th century non-regulatory practices is to eliminate any business capable of engaging in interstate commerce. The only way to return to that 'Constitutional' purity is to destroy the big corporations, big banks, and Wall Street.
Pat Boston MA.
"here we go with the teleprompter thing. That's a made up GOP talking point."
Made up?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDJSVPAx8xc
So I guess Nerm that you support unregulated corporate commercialism then?
Ron Paul supports going back to responsible regulation like reimplementing Glass-Stegall to prevent unbridled corporate banking greed that caused ALL of our economic crashes.
Like reimplementing Real Money policies and getting private banking interests out of the treasury, like the Constitution mandates it should be.
I asked for you to suggest some 21st century rules that would be better than those antiquated ideals.... CAN YOU?
Ron Paul is not advocating anything like successionism, what he is talking about is the constitutionally mandated ideal that whatever is not mandated to the government or prohibited specifically by the constitution is the RESPONSIBILITY of the states. Not the rights of the states. and NOT the responsibility of the Federal government.
What is wrong with the federal government being responsible for only what the constitution mandates that it is?
Hey PIG, Vote to collapse me if you don't like my comment. However, you don't have to be such a wuss and try to get others to follow. If they're as intelligent as you seem to be, I'm sure they'll make the right decision.
Three years of dishonor to our country and now these ignorant debates by unhonorable people. Shameful bunch the republicans have become. Pityful.
Ron Paul 2012. "The PEOPLES President, NOT the MEDIAS"
HEY phin
You will probably have to wait for them to put their glasses on first.
dji
ROTFLMAO!!!!
So was Eliot Spitzer. What's your point?
Yesterdays racist thinking: Now nixon ended the vietnam war ? Before or after he resigned ? And when did Reagan rescue the hostages in Iran ? I mean if that is your line of thinking then you would have to agree that Bush let us get attacked and Obama killed Bin Laden right ? Or All that only goes one way ? You Old Angry White Racists need to move to The Outback with Murdoch when the president wins again...That is home base for your Kool-Aid drinking cult y'know.....And I will bet you $10,000 on that....
;
SO predictable. Liberals start and end negative.
I was happy to see some good natured ribbing tonight between the candidates. It looks like they all understand one of them is going to be our next President, and they are all pretty happy about that.
I think it is down to Newt, Mitt and Dr Paul. Any of these men would be head and shoulders above the inexperienced community organizer currently in office.
I look forward to seeing this all play out in 2012. I believe that 2010 was only a hint of just how disappointed the Democrats will be with the outcome. Dems have nothing to run on, so their campaigns will be negative, and in my opinion, that is a losing strategy.
The Hope is gone, the Change is coming.

The CIA obtained the initial intelligence it needed to find bin Laden from Khalid Sheikh Mohammed — the so-called mastermind of 9/11 — and his successor, Abu Faraj al-Libi at CIA black sites in Poland and Romania. There, the detainees identified a courier who would years later be located by American intelligence officials, and lead them to bin Laden’s compound. Thank you President Bush.
The timetable for withdrawing U.S. troops in Iraq was decided during the Bush administration with the signing of the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) by U.S. and Iraq officials on Nov. 16, 2008. The Iraqi parliament signed SOFA on Nov. 27, 2008. The agreement, which had been in negotiations since 2007, set a timetable calling for most U.S. troops to leave Iraqi towns and cities by June 30, 2009, with about 50,000 troops left in place until the final withdrawal of all U.S. military forces by Dec. 31, 2011. Thank you President Bush.
Armed Predators were first used in late 2001 from bases in Pakistan and Uzbekistan, mostly for hitting high profile individual’s terrorist leaders, etc. inside Afghanistan. None were ever lost to Iran prior to recently. Thank you President Bush.
You mean like these proposals ALL presented IN WRITING?
Rand Paul Plan – Tabled by Democrats.
Republican Study Committee Plan – Tabled by Democrats.
Paul Ryan Plan – Dead on Arrival by Hairy Reed.
Cut, Cap and balance – Tabled by Democrats. (BTW, these are exactly the proposals the European Union nations are being forced to use in their austerity measures).
Mack Penny Plan – Tabled by Democrats.
20 other Jobs Plans that Democrats have tabled in the Senate, sit on Hairy Reed’s desk.
Show us any of the Democraps proposals, IN WRITING! Don't waste your time, there are none.
Which will be found unconstitutional now that the Supreme Court has finally agreed to review it? Not to mention its funding continues to collapse. The CLASS Act, a long term disability insurance plan, has collapsed. Since the Obama administration was depending on premiums for CLASS to help balance the books, the program's demise has blown an $80 billion hole in the deficit. CLASS was widely regarded as a gimmick to try to mask the true cost of Obamacare. I guess Obama will just print some more money to fund this little deficit, as usual.
ROTFLMAO!!!!!
Of course. As the EU has laughed Obama off the stage at each of the G-20 meetings for the last 3 years. Maybe if our Imposter in Chief knew to shut up during the playing of Britain’s National Anthem the world would take us more seriously?
And lets never forget Barrack sitting submissively through a 50-minute tongue-lashing of the US from Nicaragua's socialist President Daniel Ortega.
Yeah, ole Barrack is a feather in the USA cap, isn’t he?
You Liberal teabaggee's need to wake up from your Kool-Aid induced stupor.
Hypocrites!
(By the way, a “teabaggee” is the one who accepts the bag from the teabaggers. You can find a more descriptive definition here, urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=teabaggee)
Although I have already foretold the already made decision that President Obama will again be president allow me to say this of Mr. Gingrich. He is a racist and a bigot. Not only does he continue to use the term "THESE people" , referring to the Palestinians while he called them ALL terrorists, listen to how he speaks of children. Minority children as "janitors" thereby breaking child labor laws. In turn MAKING them, forcing them to be slaves. With a "MASTER janitor" in there charge. HIS words and his alone.
It is clear to see he assumes hi,self and his ilk to be superior to all especially those whom he sees as an "invented people". This man is quite self absorbed, narcissistic and willing to violate all ethics, promises to his wives plural and say anything to dupe people into believing he is intelligent in any manner which he is not. And making fools of them while doing it. 84 ethics violations and THEE only speaker of the house to be ousted lays quite a claim to that truth indeed. ; ]
Cheers
Romney is a BAD MORMON!
The Church of Latter Day Saints on it's website:
Bad Mormon Mitt!
Just another hypocrite I guess
He was against betting, now he is for it!
Well, Romney has publicly choked his cat at the debates and Gingrich is standing tall right now. Who wants to get in on a pool that predicts when Newt has a few of his old scandals, dirty deals, and underhanded tricks exposed by one of his GOP colleagues?
This has been the most entertaining primary race in my lifetime and these losers haven't even made it through their first ballot. Is this low comedy or high drama? I deep forgetting...
Pat Boston, what you said about obama's ability to kill Romney or Gingrich in a debate is wishful thinking at best. You said obama is going to tout his accomplishment? WHAT ACCOMPLISHMENT, MAY I ASK? He doesn't have any. Everything he touched resulted in disaster. So what accomplishment are you talking about? Is he going to wave a magic wand in front of the audience and pronounce the magic words "show them anything beneficial I caused?" What will probably happen is a bag of cement powder falling on his head. And that is beneficial because he will never recover from the mishap. He will spend the rest of his WH time at the hospital waiting to go back to his hometown Chicago in the company of his crooked friends.
Egilman: ..."what is wrong with the federal government being responsible for only what the constitution madates?"...
Black people = 3/5 ths of a human being...THAT'S in the constitution.
Go back to the Conservative talking points store and get a refund.
Have a nice day.
Bullets....two for a dollar.
The Three-Fifths Compromise is found in Article 1, Section 2, Paragraph 3 of the United States Constitution:
“
Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons.
No need to paraphrase when the factual information is available!
I have put this site on the bottom of my politico read list some time ago. It became clear to me that the agenda supported division of the nation.
I can see by the amount of bantering above and below that the mission continues to be the main interest.
It is a good thing that the limited number of those who continue to use this ridiculously slanted site on a regular basis still think its the best thing since Beavis an Butthead. It keeps them occupied and gives them a sense of worth.
The rest of us realize after reading news elsewhere that it matters not which great candidate the republicans put forward...a large number of Independents and dissatisfied Dems will not vote for OBAMA again.
By the way did anyone even notice how frustrated Georgie S. was last night? It was like he was uncomfortable being surounded by a room ful of Americans.
Shut yer yap and Wilberta-
You clearly have paid attention only to liberal professors trying to distort the meaning and reasoning of the three-fifths clause. This had nothing to do with saying that blacks are only 3/5 of a person. Article 1, Section 2 as Wilberta posted above deals specifically with the "apportionment of representatives and direct taxes." If during the constitutional convention, the slave-owning states would have been allowed to count their slaves (who could not vote) in the full numbers, the representation of those states would have been greater, meaning that slavery would stand no chance of being abolished.
The key part that you're missing is, " the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons. There were many blacks that were "free persons" mostly in the north, but also parts of the south. This gives full "credit" to free persons, regardless of ethnicity.
Your argument is flawed and misinformed at best.
I encourage you to read the writings of Frederick Douglass.
AtlasWillShrug
Thank you very much, I was going to post the correct response but you beat me to it, WELL DONE!
(I'm glad that there are others out here that know what was written in the constitution and what it actually meant.)
Mr Douglas was a patriot in the highest sense, it would do a lot of people good to read and study his writings. You cannot really appreciate what was accomplished in the Civil War without understanding Frederick Douglas. and he sheds a whole new understanding of what the times were like and the human equation especially for the slaves and freemen.
Again, thank you very much
Ditto Paul F.....

Hey Carrot Top,
News Flash:: You can change the channel can't you ??
This seems to be the newest distorted form of hero worship by the Big O sycophants. I ask for a link so I may witness this supposedly genius level orator in action without his trusty teleprompter and the words of others spewing from his mouth. Alas, none have been forthcoming and Google doesn't seem to know. I can only find a bunch of ummmms, errrrrrs, and "can I just eat my other waffle".
"This had nothing to do with saying that blacks are only 3/5 of a person. Article 1, Section 2 as Wilberta posted above deals specifically with the "apportionment of representatives and direct taxes." If during the constitutional convention, the slave-owning states would have been allowed to count their slaves (who could not vote) in the full numbers, the representation of those states would have been greater, meaning that slavery would stand no chance of being abolished."
What part of being able to count indentured servants or slaves (who were all black, btw) as 3/5 of a person for representation purposes, doesn't mean they were considered 3/5 of a person? It doesn't take a "liberal college professor" to figure that one out. It's too bad that in this day and age there are still people who are apologists for this language in our constitution.
@tomorrowsnews: Again, conservative spin running rampant. You have so many "IFs" going on.
Did Clinton attempt to take out bin Landen? Yes, but he missed him. http://www.snopes.com/rumors/clinton.asp
You would have us believe Holy St. Reagan skillfully negotiated and arranged the release of the Iranian hostages. Really, he did all that after being in office for just a few minutes. Did he have some phone connected to the podium? Carter negotiated and arranged the release. Try educating yourself. Tell you what, here is a link that might help you with your twisted view.
 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran_hostage_crisis
Now since you want to play the spin game, riddle me this .. Clinton told Bush to keep his eye on bin Laden. If Bush knew he was such a threat, why didn't he take him out? If he had, 9/11 would not have happened. I guess that means we get to throw the blame for 9/11 on Bush, not Clinton.
ROTFLMAO!!!!!!
NewtISaPIG in Post #1.41 asks,,,
So, I answer the little, limp-wristed, Teabaggee with Post #1.55.
How do the knuckle dragging, mouth breathing, racist Liberals respond?
COLLAPSE THE POST!
Such are the miscreants that inhabit the Left of normalcy.
ABO (Anybody But Obama) 2012
Watching the Candidate's Debate is like watching a a bunch of adolencents acting petty, evasive on giving specific answers to questions, finger pointing, and generally uninformed. Not one of them have said or done anything that would indicate, they will put the best interest of the Public before their own personal agenda's.
It would be more fitting if Comedy Central Network hosted the debates.
It's sad to see the choices available. And I don't see why anyone would vote in a Republican, just to have one. (Unless I was wealthy, of course)...
Sailcat, perhaps you were a little to busy choking your………cat to realize, but Gov. Perry did mention: “"if you cheat on your wife, you'll cheat on your business partner,"”, so you lost the pool before it started, LMAO. Loser…thank you for playing.
Speaking of entertaining, please explain what it is that you “deep forgetting”?
AtlasWillShrug
Unfortunately my good friend, you're asking the Libbies to do something very alien to them.
READ!
They proudly announced that they didn't read the 2,743 page Health Care Redistribution of Wealth hoax. As Nanny Piglosi proudly exalted:
And as we have seen, as the fog lifts, it is collapsing on itself.
This is not unusual for the limp little Liberals as they even more proudly admitted to not reading Arizona's SB 1070. But Obama, Holder and Neapolitano certainly had opinions without reading it.
Hypocrisy knows no bounds for Liberals.
Ah, Arkius! Your rant is irrelevant to my assertion that Romney put his foot in his mouth in last night's debate and Gingrich was the clear winner. You, like Romney, are choking your cat in a public forum.
Being a failure is a trait both of you share, it would seem.
Sailcat, it now becomes clear to me why you avoid taking on others in academic arguments; you don’t know how, so you engage in misdirection and diatribe.
In your post of Sun Dec 11, 2011 4:48 am est, you wrote: “Who wants to get in on a pool that predicts when Newt has a few of his old scandals, dirty deals, and underhanded tricks exposed by one of his GOP colleagues?”
In my post of Sun Dec 11, 2011 12:50 pm est, I replied that: “Gov. Perry […] mention(ed) “if you cheat on your wife, you'll cheat on your business partner”, so you lost the pool before it started”.
As anyone can plainly see, my reply to your 4:48 am post is more than relevant, it is spot on. And by-the-way girlfriend, why do always resort to exaggeration? As in calling my accurate observation a rant.
You’re such a drama queen……Lmao
Arkius, you are trying to restart agurments you lost previously on other threads, or never happened to begin with. I think that would brand you as the drama queen, not me.
If you are going to stalk me simply to be humiliated over and over again, I am going to do you a big favor and put you on my ignore list. Think of it as a humane way of putting you out of your misery.
You're welcome, Arkius.
Sailcat, don’t flatter yourself. You’ve done nothing but make yourself look like a total jerk in front of the “community” that you so desperately need to impress. You need to be part of this community, because in real life…you don’t have any friends.
You wrote: “If you are going to stalk me simply to be humiliated over and over again, I am going to do you a big favor and put you on my ignore list.”
Again, don’t flatter yourself, I’m not stalking you, it’s just that I’m able to make you look like an abject failure on different threads. It’s easy actually because you do all the work; I challenge your intelligence, and you accommodate me by falling on your face. Piece-o-cake.
And now you’ve managed to accommodate me one last time; you’ve decided to tuck your tail between your legs and run away. Oh boo hoo hoo…poor little misfit Sailcat can’t take the heat and has thrown in the towel. You were so intimidated by the prospect of being compelled by public opinion to put up or shut up, that you conceded defeat.
By doing so you are admitting that:
1)…You don’t know how to properly argue a point.
2)…Your posts are nothing but shrill diatribes.
3)…You are a left wing nut job, loser.
I think the “community” understands that I’m running YOU off. So who’s being humiliated here? Duh….it’s you LOSER. You took the pipe; get used to it.
Please do me a favor, eat your humble pie with your mouth closed; your slobbering is disgusting. Ahahahaha
DrDr-
Again, that was for determining the number of representatives. Would you have preferred that slave owner were able to count each of their slaves as a whole? You do understand that that would have left slave-owning states mass representation in the federal government, essentially making the abolition of slavery nearly impossible? The slave-owning states would have had a super majority.
Finally, there were white slaves in the US. Again, read. I recommend you start with the writings of Frederick Douglass; a former slave, a black man, and one who agreed with the three-fifths clause as a medium for ending slavery.
Sailcat: Twelve-year old children should not be on the computer at 4 a.m. Just saying.
dont understand why no one can understand that out of all the candidates Ron Paul is the only real deal. the rest are just slick willy frontmen for corporate america, the fed, and wall street/banks. there will not be any spending cuts with them, you will just continue seeing our tax dollars going from the middle class and being given to the rich if newt or romney gets elected. i wish people would wake up and look at their past actions and voting records. If you want real change for the average citizen then Ron Paul is really the only way to go.
I believe that is what Neutered and Reagan had in mind with their Voodoo theory of "trickle down" economics. The trickle down is the 1% urinating on the 99% while the money flowed uphill to the wealthy. The proof is in the results we have seen over the past 20 years. The gap in the middle class and the wealthy has only widened since the introduction of trickle down economics.
What is this trash calling this blah blah talk talk nonsense a debate? BORING!!
Even the Dementedrats master debaters couldn't liven it up!
To various assorted and sundry-
The Republicans need to get a grip. No matter how much they hate Romney, right now he is the only electable candidate they have.
As sad as it may sound, you will never get the people in the middle to vote for Gingrich or Paul because they are both odd looking little men who give the appearance of being less than serious about anything. No ding on Newts intelligence but he presents himself as a clown. He always has and he looks like a tiny little televangelist with about the same moral compass. Paul sounds like a squawking chicken every time he opens his mouth. I actually think he has some good ideas(though his ties to big business make me nervous) but the package is... unsellable and that's being kind.
Michele Bachman is this month's Sarah Palin. It's all about the money. She hasn't got a clue what she's talking about most of the time. Perry is the poor man's Geo W and we all know how that turned out. We're still living the fallout of that stupid choice.
And the rest just fade to looney obscurity.
If the Republicans want any sort of chance to beat Obama they need to get behind Romney and start pushing. No one on the fence will vote for any of these other weirdos.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Newt said - Use it or lose it " ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Grinch would turn the WH into a Red House.
Fine collapse me, I'll just post it again.
Pat Boston MA.
"here we go with the teleprompter thing. That's a made up GOP talking point."
Made up?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDJSVPAx8xc
And here's another one,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omHUsRTYFAU
What's the matter, can't handle the truth?
"What's the matter, can't handle the truth?"
The truth is that every president since the invention of the teleprompter has used one. There are pictures of EVERY president since then using one, including Reagan and both Bushes. For some reason, it's a big deal to Republicans now.
It's a non-issue that serves only to identify just how desperate teabaggers are to pin something...anything...on Obama to make him look bad. Teleprompter, 57 states, birth certificate...it says more about these sad specimens than it does about anything else.
DrDrGimmetheNews
"The truth is that every president since the invention of the teleprompter has used one. There are pictures of EVERY president since then using one, including Reagan and both Bushes. For some reason, it's a big deal to Republicans now."
Yes every president in recent history has used a teleprompter, and every one of them has had it fail at least once. But apparently Obama is the only one to not rehearse his speech before hand, because when his teleprompter dies he becomes completely lost.
Opinion. Your irrational fixation on teleprompters and other irrelevant issues marks you and your ilk and disinterested with a genuine presidential campaign. You are only interested in trying to discredit Obama for pointless and senseless reasons.
Shame.
Actually I just found the teleprompter incidents to be quite amusing. If I want to discredit Obama there are plenty of other issues I could bring up, but then again I could say the same about most presidents.
"But apparently Obama is the only one to not rehearse his speech before hand, because when his teleprompter dies he becomes completely lost."
Right. Generally, the president writes the majority of his own speeches. Unlike our last president who had to have his teleprompter written phonetically.
"If I want to discredit Obama there are plenty of other issues I could bring up, but then again I could say the same about most presidents."
And yet you come back to the teleprompter jibe again and again.
As do you.
Come now, eric. The non-issue of the teleprompter would fade away if it weren't for the shrill, irrational bleating of teabaggers and intellectual midgets who can't come up with anything better. Stop raising the topic and we will stop embarrassing you.
Not embarrassed yet, would you like me to bring up something else instead? How about his 57 states, or maybe the "Marine Corpse", or "There is no pork in my stimulus bill", should I go on?
You seem to be beating that dead horse to death. Can we move onto another subject that is relevant instead of a teleprompter, misspoken statement(s) and other minute rhetoric? It is one thing to misspeak once or twice but to continue to have memory lapses, getting your basic high school facts wrong and what your platform stands for is a different animal all together and might be worthy of discussing in this forum.
Possibly some of these will meet your criteria,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJEa6pP0xzw
Here's a fun game. Let's see which Batman villain most resembles each of the Republican candidates.
Mitt Romney: Two-Face. Obviously, because he's of two minds on every issue and can switch between them on the flip of a coin. (Clayface would be an acceptable alternative.)
Newt Gingrich: The Penguin. Aside from physical appearance, he shares Oswald Cobblepot's love of revising his own history to feed his delusions of grandeur and cast himself as a victim to sustain his grudges.
Michelle Bachmann: Harley Quinn. Like Harley, Bachmann is crazy, but also like Harley who has an abusive love-hate relationshp with The Joker, Bachmann has an abusive love-hate relationship with the federal government, publically complaining about how bad it treats her, but always coming back to it in the end.
Ron Paul: The Vulture. I know, he's actually a Spiderman villain, but I couldn't resist. Actually, Monty Burns is even better (he counts as a Bartman villain, right?)
Rick Perry: Solomon Grundy. Because neither of them can complete a coherent sentence.
Rick Santorum: Calendar Man. Never heard of him? Google it. Oh, wait.
I wouldn't say Ron Paul is a villain, but the rest is pretty accurate.
+1 for you my friend.
Let's not forget Obama...aka...the joker....
Do I detect someone with a comic book mentality?
You do realize that those characters are not real, right?
James Lee, I keep hoping that I'll wake up and discover that Bachmann, Perry, Gingrich, and the Tea Party were all just a bad dream. It does seem unbelievable that these people are being taken at all seriously in our political process. The extremism that has taken over the Republican party is indeed absurd.
Actually Nathan, I was just poking fun at you. What I really thought was that your comparisons were quite creative and I enjoyed them.
Don't agree with them, but enjoyed them.
Very creative,& yet our country is mess because the 'community organizer' is so far over his head!
Nathan..
Actually it's pretty good if you were looking for humor, except, you missed wildly on one.
The Man for Truth, Justice and the American Way!!! ;-) oh that right, you were looking for villains...
Bob, if the community organizer had ran in 2000 we wouldn't be in this mess today. And we would be out of this mess if we didn't have this group of "hate at all cost republicans in office."
Bob, Ah, just a quick question; How so? How is the President over his head? Could you be more specific. Which of the candidates this evening can you truly imagine sitting in the Oval Office? Which one explained a viable foreign policy? Which one fits the suit? Are you a fan of our healthcare system or do you believe we have reached the stage where it is no longer affordable? Do you believe it needs to change? Do you believe that DADT needs to be re-instated? Do you believe that our corporate structure is such that jobs are right around the corner? If not, should corporations continue to receive tax welfare? So many questions; Whicih of the candidates tonight do you feel are heads about the President? I eagerly await hearing from you. Now be careful, no slogans or Obummer retorts please. Just your thoughts on the issues.
Nathan, at least you realize you have been asleep. Which ever party you are.
Skip, just go get a book. This ani't no Government Class.
@Skip Murray -- Michele Bachmann came closest to meeting your criteria. She remained focused on task, provided concise non-theoretical answers, and spoke directly to voters in Iowa. Bachmann did not waffle and did not apologize. Bachmann made a strong presentation tonight.
Personally, I disagree with her views and could not support her for president. But, still, I believe she came closest to meeting your criteria.
One look at Occupy Wall St and the Tea Party become the clear serious change-agents.
The biggest mistake the lunatic left makes is that they honestly think everyone agrees with them. I guess 2010 wasn't enough of a wake up call.
Americans vote their pocket book. The left has failed miserably in this category, and worse, they have exhibited the worst of DC with Fast & Furious, Solyndra, and a host of other disasters.
Sorry to give you the bad news during the holidays, but Obama & Co are toast.
Nerm she is Bat @!$%# Crazy
'nuff said!
You don't suppose every single candidate is going to be publicly humiliated and discredited, and we will find the teabaggers returning to Michelle "Bat@!$%#" Bachmann because she will be all that's left, do you?
I sure hope so! Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
Hey Earl, I didn't think you'd asnwer the quesitons. You guys never do. I don't a book, I have plenty. What I don't need are slogans and flag waving. You always fall apart at specifics. As far Mchele Bachmann, her total focus is that she's not fond of President Obama. That's not a policy or a platform. Her views on healthcare are the good old status quo ones. Matter of fact, the whole debate last night apart from character assasination was "let's keep it the way its been". Status quo has not worked and does not work. We are in the midst of great change, like it or not. So, Earl, thanks for confirming what I already knew.
Tommorowsnews........you are weak on your world events, go read them again and I suggest you steer clear of using Wikpedia as your source as it can be modified by any fool reading it!!
BTW: The 1993 WTC Van bombing happened just a few weeks after Clinton was sworn in, I assure you it was planned far in advance of that.............oh and the perpetraitor resonsible Ramsey Yousef, Clinton put him in the US Super Max Prison and he is still there.
For your Nixon and Vietnam statement, I would question whether Kennedy actually started that war I think the French had something to do with that...........but for your so ever masterful conservative Right Wing Intelligence: Nixon was winning the reelection by a HUGE landslide because he pulled the US out of Vietnam......WHY THEN WATERGATE? Next his Impeachment??
After Nixon was Impeached his Veep Ford was inserted, Ford lost miserably to Carter and the economy was already in a tailspin, Regan did very little or nothing to free the 52 hostages, Regan however did invade Grenada and Regan did ignore the bombing of the Marine Barracks in Beruit..........his response was to pull the US Troops out of Beruit and today Hezbollah is happy for that.
So now that the Republican Party has no contender for the election this year coming Obama will enjoy his second term as President...........too bad McCain picked Palin as his running partner, just think John could have had Lieberman and WON!!
Tommorowsnews......one last Info Posting just for your education as you found it applicable to insult Kennedy and Johnson concerning Vietnam..........
Debate on Gulf of Tonkin Resolution: The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution is approved by Congress on August 7 and authorizes President Lyndon Johnson to "take all necessary measures to repel any armed attack against forces of the United States and to prevent further aggression." The resolution passes unanimously in the House, and by a margin of 82-2 in the Senate. The Resolution allows Johnson to wage all out war against North Vietnam without ever securing a formal Declaration of War from Congress.
I wonder if the 2 that voted NO were Dems??
Ah Nathan, you are nothing like the Nathan of 2 Samuel! He was a wise man and prophet. You are neither!
Newt's sister says the family name is really pronounced "GingricK" with a hard "K" sound, not "GingRICH." Guess Newt prefers the ring of the "rich" ending..
mynameisearlene, Northern Germans would pronounce it with a hard "K" sound, i.e., ick.
Southern Germans pronounce it like Newt does, with no "K", i.e., itch.
I hope this helps some.
I will pronounce it with inch—give them an inch and they will take a mile. So you can pronounce it as the old Grinch of Doctor Seuse.
But anything is better than the worse maker with the ears that don't hear the people and looks like a chump chimp—Obamonkey. Like Bubba Clinton, he lies so much, you can't believe a word out of his mouth, speaking out of both sides of his split tongue.
"But anything is better than the worse maker with the ears that don't hear the people and looks like a chump chimp—Obamonkey"
Wow. Could you get any more offensive?
I suppose Bob could have farted, but even that would be preferable to the hateful bull@!$%# he is posting.
There's no one to root for.
Except Ron Paul.
I am a cat lover too but you are wrong! Romney would run this country like a much needed business
@ Bob Sasser
That's just brilliant. Maybe he can run it like the companies Bain Industries ran and ship ALL the jobs overseas so he can sell the country off.
noooo, he has to chop it up into pieces first! He never sells the whole just the leftover pieces.
Hey there's a career move for ya Mitt, go meet up with Cain and you can sell his left over pieces..
The jobs are going overseas because because we have the highest taxes in the world for business! You dumbocrats seem to think it's a good thing!
Yeah the jobs started going overseas when Blacky McBlackman became president, how "dumbocrat" of me to forget that.
Dude you can come in here and bring your FOX SPEWS bullcrap with you all day long and twice on Sundays but you're still an idiot.
Buh bye clown.
Bob Sasser I didn't know that ZERO was the highest tax rate for corporations in the world. That is only in the United States.
The jobs are going overseas because they have THE CHEAPEST LABOR!!! Get in the game. I am so sick of our local idiots!
Japan is the only country in the world that has a higher corporate tax rate than the united states,look it up misinformed liberals!
Not to mention the life sucking unions who have driven labor costs so high it's cheaper to outsource. Look at Detroit and the car industry. Tell me which one of you would call a union trades person to do contract work on your home? Just as I thought.
boob,
Although many have already pointed this out I think it bears repeating.
Statutory Corporate tax rate in US= 35%
Average Effective Corporate tax rate in US = approx. 18- 21%
Average Corporate tax rate worldwide = 26%
Highest Corporate tax rate= Japan 39.4%
Put a Republican in office so they can eliminate the minimum wage. End all regulations, pensions, overtime and safety standards so companies can pollute to their hearts content and work people till they pass out. And if someone gets injured on the job..fire 'em. Then those jobs will come back to the good old USA as the gap between the top 1% and everyone else continues to grow. A perfect world for the ultra rich, and a Republican dream.
Bob Sasser
Bob, Bob, Bob, Bob,.....
Jobs are going overseas specifically because labor and administrative costs connected to labor are much less that here in the states. It is more profitable to have your widget made over there and shipped here than have it made here.
Although what you cite is also an issue it IS NOT the cause.
There was a nice crazy gentleman from Texas about 30 some odd years ago that tried his heart out trying to get politicians to understand what they were doing to American jobs. That man was Ross Perot. Unfortunately, his description of what was about to happen was.. This "LOUD SUCKING SOUND" and all that did was aid the opposition in ridiculing what he was warning about.
Eventually, Clinton signed it into law calling it a Job creator, That was NAFTA, it certainly was a job creator, in Mexico, Canada, Korea, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Indonesia, and a hoist more countries.
One smart savvy Texan who was called crazy we should have all listened to, there is another smart savvy Texan, they are also calling him crazy, do we need a repeat performance?
I like cats too, but I'll bet you $10,000 you are wrong about Mitt.
Not an iota of Presidential fortitude amongst the bunch, even if you took each one's best character flaw and tossed it out. Shills trying to be King of the Plutocrats. Not one of those jokers can even maintain direct eye contact throughout a point being vacuously made out of yet another talking point.
Paul is the only one that even remotely seems to believe what he's putting out there, but his running as Independent is the GOP's ONLY chance to even make it a close call possible in November 2012.
Hollow clicking noises is all they transmit. God Help Us.
Peace
The problem with running a country like a business is that it doesn't have something bigger to bail it out.
The problem with running a country like a business is that countries and businesses do not have a common purpose. Businesses are all about making a profit and countries are supposed to provide for the common welfare of their citizens.
But the government is being ran as a business. Every federal agency develops portfolios and use them as though they were investment strategies and then come off with a ROI. I agree countries are not to be ran as businesses but the good old US government is being handled like one and therefore losing at providing to its citizens and providing a boost for those in the government who think they have some power to catapult their careers through these portfolios along with the Government and Performance Reporting Act that was put in place by a GOP senator. I wonder who decided the government decided to be ran like a business? This has worked against a proper functioning government.
The REAL GOP candidate stand up, the rest of you get a LIFE and get a REAL job... Bachman, you lose....your lips move and your nose grows...Rick Perry, no comment, except you LOSE.. Ron Paul, we need doctors, stay at that... Newt, good luck... Romney... keep your fact straight PLEASE.... don't flip n flop.....
I like Salamander Man's idea of a space colony on Mars. I think the current crop of GOP Presidential contenders would be the perfect crew to man this colony. That can even take turn drawing straws to see who will be the first President of Mars.
Funny, I said that the debate was like watching the game show "To Tell The Truth". I see my mistake now- nobody stood up at the end.
You can DIE HARD as you suffer the incompetence of Obamonkey.
Didn't the revolutionary war happen because of Britains government control over the citizens and unfair taxes? Not sure, but sounds liberal to me.... RON PAUL 2012!!!!
I like Michelle Bachmann, too. She is a legitimate conservative.
Also a legitimate lunatic.
Her JOB #1 priority as president would be to eliminate Obama care. Wow, of all the priorities, that is the #1? Jobs isn't #1? Unemployment isn't #1? Wall Street reforms aren't #1? Interesting set of priorities there Ms. Bachmann. Tell me, is JOB #2 priority to "pray the gay away"?
She certainly is consistent. I think her ideas are consistently crazy, but consistent. She and Ron Paul at least know what they think. The others change their stance minute to minute.
I do think she did a brilliant job of tying Newt and Mitts together. She had them both stumbling to recover from that piece of tactical maneuvering.
The main reason I like her is that she tells the truth. Ron Paul does too! You fools, do you believe all the lies that come from the mouths of the other dancers? Are you serious??
Let me understand what Newt said, he wants to fire the union Janitors of our schools and hire the poor children of these schools instead. Fire head-of-households and hire children to support their families instead? Way to go Newt this is such an asinine statement.
That's not what Newt said...maybe you need to put your hearing aid back in...and why the hell are you even watching this debate anyway....liberal jerk...
Who are YOU calling a "jerk"? That is exactly what Newter said. He said poor kids should be put to work as janitors in schools. Lying teatard.
dixie girl,why the hell you on here anyway.Go back to Faux news.
Feedback not your thing dixie girl? In fact, the policy that Newtoid said he wanted to implement is exactly that. He wants to get rid of Union Janitors (the right wing HATE anyone who protect worker rights) and pay disadvantaged children to clean toilets.
It is the job of children to learn. Not to clean toilets for rich old crooks like Newtie.
Yes he did say fire the janitors. They are the head of many households.
He has made this same dumb statement before!
dixie girl,
As a Nation we all want to see what the prospective candidates have to say. Now have a nice warm glass of milk and go to bed. It seems it is past your bedtime.
dixie girl,this just in!!!! The Civil War? Your side lost. Now GTFO,go back to your home schoolin' and learn some comprehension skills.
I wonder if the fact that janitors make more then starting teachers in New York might be the problem.
Your absolutely right though. Giving the underclass kids jobs and responsibility and an opportunity to learn the work ethic is way to far to the right.
It works so much better to maintain the poor class on the government dole. That way we as Democrats can continue to assure ourself the vote of these folks and feel real good watching the family unit disintegrate in the minority areas of the country. I'm sure as a party we really did not want them to become productive citizens and lead a productive life. Much better we maintain this form of economic slavery. Besides we keep the vote.
I think Newt was trying to point out that many kids coming from poor families, most likely without 2 parents, do not have role models to learn how to work hard.
The X and Y generation most definitely do not understand hard work as evidenced by OWS. But then again, boomers didn't understand it as well as the greatest generation did. Those that first hand experienced the depression knew that in order to survive, since there was few safety nets, they had to work doing anything they could to help their families put food on the table. So there was no job that was so lowly that somebody wouldn't want it. Today that is not the case. The crappy jobs are going to illegals which puts downward pressure on wages which is bringing down our standard of living.
We have far too many unskilled workers because our public school system is a dismal failure. So those people stay on government subsidies their entire lifetime that are financed by everybody else including middle America that is shrinking.
Newt's agenda, first clear out the unionized, head of household janitors in schools. Second, clear Palestine of those 'fake' Palestinians.
Newt did seem a bit over the top. I believe him to be unelectable.
Aunt Anna- Have you or Newt, ever heard of the working poor? Some parents in those poor neighborhoods have jobs some two or three. The point is minimum wage jobs, and many work very hard and have great work ethics. Newts point was, poor kids have no role models, no one working in their families, that is so wrong, and one of the myths you GOP/ baggers like to promote. Also trying to tie it to black families, another way to separate us and further divide this country. I can only watch so much of these dog and pony debates, I to busy yelling liar at the TV. Ron Paul is the only one that speaks the truth, and the GOP will never let him be the candidate.
Anyone of them would be better than Obamarama.
these debates are just the warm up round, wait until the votes actually start coming in then watch them jump all over each other....
Ron Paul is clearly the best of this bunch and has been from the start.
Ron- Wow great come back! Turn off the faux noise!
I wasn't aware that the public school system was there to teach kids how to be skilled workers. I thought it was there to educate kids in those silly things like reading, writing and arithmetic. Generally, trade schools, colleges and universities are the institutions that prepare young adults for the labor force. Priceless bit of logic there .. public schools are dismal failure as measured by unskilled workers, resulting in all public school kids living on public welfare.
"The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so." ~Ronald Reagan, October 27, 1964
"There's an old saying in Tennessee - I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee - that says, fool me once, shame on - shame on you. Fool me - you can't get fooled again."
-George W. Bush, 2002
You don't want to risk converting any liberals...
I watched because I like to be informed. When the primaries are over there are a few possibilities. I want to be fully aware. Tonight I saw a few that I worry wouldn't have the aptitude to run the US, one who might but wont and only one that I wouldn't feel too terrified if he or she beat Obama.
I'll tell you right now. Newt has been censured for ethics violations and fined- what was it, $300,000? I know Fox News told you he was exonerated, but they were not correct. Tonight he exaggerated at best when saying emphatically that the Palestinians have shelled Israel every day. Then began using the name Hamas and Palestine interchangeably. Finally culminating the topic with a description of how buddy-buddy he is with Netanyahu. But I start to ramble, Newt just strikes me a guy who is all about Newt and to heck with everyone else.
Justified defiance, did you just quote the man who led the Invasion over the Empire of Panama and took the Fortress of Grenada from a couple of Cubans? R. Reagan's gift to the Ameircan people was a chance to Fly our Flag Proudly. Other than that, he came up with the envy of the world economic system known as Trickle Down. I'd be very careful quoting Mr. Reagan as a kind of Gospel. You might as well quote Ms. Bachmann or Ms. Palin or any of the other characters under the big tent. He's one for you; We have nothing to fear but fear itself. FDR
"When 50% of high school graduates are functional illiterates and can't fill out a simple application for a job, then they are unskilled to enter society."
Not sure where you're getting this statistic, but the CIA world factbook cites the literacy rates for the US as 99%. See here:
https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/fields/2103.html#us
And Trickle Down Voodoo Economics has been the downfall of this country. Good old Ronbo was the beginning of the end of this country including his Star Wars Defense Initiative that proved to be a total failure at the expense of this country. Oh yes, he single handed brought down the USSR too since it was not the economic theory of "guns or butter" but the powerful words of Ronbo. A B class actor delivering a B class leadership.
Another media controlled story that is to scared to say RON PAUL didn't see that coming. How scared of him could they be huh?
They are actually terrified of him.....
I`m really bored with all the goings-on with these GOP folks. Can`t we find something else to talk about? They haven`t anything else to say and neither do we.
If you want something else to talk about....go to another blog....you idiot...
You must be proud of your ability to name-call, since that's all you have going for you.....
@dixie girl
Sweetie, it's time to take some midol. Then find your way back to Faux News. Your little tantrums are becoming a bore.
Maybe we can talk about all of Obamas great jobs that do not exist. And his spring time in Egypt. Or perhaps we can look at sending troops to Uganda.
I wouldn't want you to look at the crony capitalism this man has been involved with. It's so much better for you to stay a sheep. That way you can be lead to your slaughter easily.
Dixie girl you go girl all the liberal lonely idiots that sit by their computer to watch for a new story to make their miserable ignorant lives a bit exciting then run their mouths like diarrhoea...all night long!
Has Dixie Girl managed to post such a pathetic collection of ignorant comments that all of her posts have been collapsed to spare the tender sensibilities of the community?
Yeah, I think that's about the size of it.
Fail, Dixie.
Sailcat, or better yet, Spastic Nancy, if you're so concerned with the "tender sensibilities of the community", why don't you go back to "deep forgetting" or chocking your cat (chicken) instead of imposing your "shrill invectives" on us.
You're a hypocrite, Dixie is making reasonable, straight forward arguments that you refuse to answer. Clearly, it's your replies that are ignorant here. Why don't you answer her arguments point for point, in an academic fashion? What are you afraid of Spastic Nancy? I think you're afraid that she'll embarrass you in front of the "community", and expose you for the socialist bag of hot air that you truly are.
Until you accept the challenge Spastic Nancy…….YOU have failed.
Oh, Arkius, you make me laugh out loud! If Dixie's comments are reasonable then why, pray, does the community collapse them? And if her ravings are bitter and pointless, as the community has decided, what is there that is contained within them that can justify challenging "in an academic fashion"? Let's look at Dixie's comment at the top of this thread (#8.1), shall we?
"If you want something else to talk about....go to another blog....you idiot..."
Dixie's posts are no more valid or sensible than yours, in fact, which automatically brands both of you as unworthy of serious consideration, Arkius.
Goodbye, loser.
There you go again comrade, ducking the issue as usual. But I’m not surprised; I really didn’t expect you to address it head on. I think we both know your ability to reason is limited to tirade and evasion.
After reading many of the community’s posts, I am convinced that the majority are close minded, left wing nut jobs, just like you. There are, however, a few contributors who think differently, and are chastised by the lunatic left because they do stand out. I will mention just a few: Aunt Anna, goodytwoshoes, Justified Difiance, theboys, Egilman, plumberone, Bob Sasser, SPARTAN-501, Paul F, et. al..
My goal here isn’t to change the political ideology or worldview of the sensible dyed-in-the-wool Democrats, or even a misguided socialist goon like Sailcat, my goal is to expose how weak their subjective opinions are when confronted with strong objective arguments.
And comrade Sailcat, your opinions are the weakest of everyone’s, because you really don’t have any; you’re just bluster, shrill diatribe and hot air.
Why in the world would the republicans agree to have a debate with Diane Sawyer & George Stephanopoulos...the two most liberal so called journalists in the country....this is a got ya debate....and frankly I don't give a damn how many times Newt has been married or what is religion is....I want Obama to go away.....I want someone that can get this country out of the mess its in...I would take anyone of the republican candidates over the potus....it's the encomony stupid...
Lets all remember who got us in this mess! It wasn't Obama.
Yeah! Instead of them darn liberal journalists, let's have a debate with a real TV person .... like the Donald!!
If it's the economy, the economy has grown for 21 straight months. Unemployment is declining. Just because they tell you it's bad on Fox news does not make it so. It is much better than the freefall we were in when he took office. So why would you want to go back? By the way it's spelled economy stupid.
spoken like a true fox head redneck southern good ol fool
@dixiegirl
Yeah, but they all showed up didn't they. As opposed to some other clown, like Trump, throwing a debate and nobody coming. It's all about credibility. There just isn't a lot of it in the GOP/tp camp.
Dear, even Obama with all his many talents could not have effed up this country as completely and thoroughy in the year and one half of his Presidency that it took for the right wing to start bleating that he had driven our country into ruin. It would have given the trinity a run for their money to do what George Bush did to the U.S. in eight years. It took a while to turn around and get going in the right direction when we were headed into the flaming pits of hades at top speed , thanks to Bush's shenanigans and the tender care that Cheney lavished upon us.
Oh I wish I was in the land of cotton...
where readin' and 'rithmetic ain't learned so can't be forgotten...
Secede away,secede away,secede away...
Dixieland...
(Don't let the door hit ya in the ass next time either.)
dixie girl-
Fox News viewers less informed than those who don’t watch news at all: study
A poll released by Fairleigh Dickinson University on Monday found that people who get their news from Fox News know significantly less about news both in the U.S. and the world than people who watch no news at all.
http://articles.nydailynews.com/2011-11-22/news/30431182_1_fox-news-results-show-viewers
Dixegril when they were issuing brains you thought they said rain. No wonder you think Newt Barabbas Gingrich is a genius. He has lowered the bar for genius. The fact that he is up there on stage is indeed a lowering of the bar for the office. It's not ideas that he is full of. You think he and others who got all of us in this mess with tinkle down economics, can get us out. Insanity redefined Repoohblican style.
The only part about the staging of the debate I didn't like was the clowns that came on at the end telling me who they thought did the best job like I was too stupid to understand what had happened. Frankly I thought Romney was a clear winner in my book. He had strong content and a dignified manner. I don't believe he'd embarrass me by flying around the country hugging other rulers and apologizing for America. I think the liberals would love for us to run Gingrich as they can tear him apart during the election. I thought the fact he caused issues in the Middle East for things he said made him look like a loose cannon.
I totally agree even Bachman!
It may be just me, but using terms like "POTUS" in everyday speech just sounds profoundly pretentious. The solution is simple. When you feel the urge to say "POTUS" use the word "president" instead. As long as you are in context, everyone will realize you are talking about the President of the United States and not the President of the Elks Women's Auxiliary.
Just took a moment to review the comments about the debate.
And I am sorry to say folks, your insults just don't match up well with the First Read regulars.
Why, by now, ol' Feisty would have derided every single republican candidate with top shelf zingers that would have me curled over with laughter.
Your feeble efforts pale in comparison even to Bev in Chicago or to the old decrepit vet.
Please try harder. You are not very entertaining.
I'm sure Feisty would come up with some real good ones...I can hear them now,
"Bush bad"
"Obama is a God" (even though he continues some of Bush's most questionable policies)
"Bush bad"
"Obama is a God"
etc.
etc.
Feisty is good with zingers, but not much else.
Rebaggers can't read more than a bumper sticker.
Oh, you do know that watching Fox is bad for your intelligence level? No? You didn't know? Tsk Tsk
Go back to your Fox talking points children.
goodytwoshoes
Dixie girl you go girl all the liberal lonely idiots that sit by their computer to watch for a new story to make their miserable ignorant lives a bit exciting then run their mouths like diarrhoea...all night long!
And this fool feels compelled to badmouth anyone? Really?
Really, boys, you are terribly confused although I can easily see why. People like you can't understand people like Feisty. People like you celebrate ignorance, intolerance, and hatred while people like Feisty embrace concepts with which you are completely unfamiliar: integrity, honesty, and moral courage. That is what sets her apart from your kind and that is why you can't match her wit or intelligence leaving you with only juvenile insults to strike back at her.
Your blithering comments, therefore, say more about you than they do about anything else.
Shame.
I find it interesting that Feisty Redhead from Illinois does not respond on weekends. Could it be that she really is a paid for shill by MSNBC, and has the weekends off? BTW her avatar on FOX news totally negates any serious cognitive thought she may have. Cursing in any form is nothing more than "lazy" language.
If you have a salient point to make then make it. The name calling on either side does nothing to further the conversation.
DockPete,did it ever occur that she may have a life, unlike you the reason she's not on here on weekends.
Rich, Feisty posts more than anyone else on this board! I can tell that and I only stop by occasionally. This board is her life!
Which should tell you something. She needs to get a life!!!
Two simple possibilities: She's on vacation, or her internet connection is down. Don't worry, I'm sure she'll make up for it later.
Feisty does comment on weekends. Quite often actually. And her name is "Feisty" for a reason. She has tons of spirit which every website needs. I don't think it should matter to anyone how often she posts here. People like her a great deal. She's fun to have here. Just as there are some on the other side who are fun.
and she also commented in this post, you must have missed it...
Guess I'm putting in some over time little buddy! ;o)
Have I mentioned how flattered I am?
This thread is about the a career politician & a serial adulterer yet, somehow you all want to discuss little old me instead...
Deflect much? lol
PS: Thanks for the kind words Pat!
PPS: Man oh Man - the residuals, around here, from the full moon last night are downright hysterical!
Hey Feisty, Good to See Ya!
You too Egilman - we may not agree on much but I do love the fact you don't resort to bull@!$%# to make your point! *hugs*
I will debate you on merits anyday!
This "calvacade of clowns" is just too much..As a former Republican I am embarrassed by the GOP's love affair with money and property first-people and prosperity for all last...Sad ! This Independent is forcasting a victory for Obama over Romney in 2012 ! Sorry, Mitch McConnell-Anywhere but in the South you'd be a loser, but the Jim Crow crowd still loves you.
tomorrownews. you seem to have as much of a grasp on the electorial process as Mr. Perry. Primaries are open to all. Get your signatures, submit them and you are on the ballot.The only way to subvert the process is to try and disenfranchise entire segments of the population (see WI,SC,OH,MI,AZ,GA,etc).
Another episode of GOP reality show!
sugar monkey.
Romney looks very Constipated......
Whoa Ken!
Best zinger to date. You are a winner!
I chuckled at that one.
"Romney looks constipated." OMG--I said those exact words to my husband last night. He just has this very frozen look/fake smile on his face. A little scary.
The Republican Party will have no way to offer a qualified presidential nominee from the selection up on stage in Iowa, and certainly not from among Newt and Romney, the two awful frontrunners. The GOP is offering a failed vision of a conservative America to be led by political and corporate elitists that think nothing of cheating on two wives and challenging people to $10,000 bets. The level that Newt and Mitt are out of touch with common Americans is truly mind boggling. The Republican Party is no longer a viable option for most American voters. http://www.sunstateactivist.org
Mattpfl....it dosen't matter whom the candidate is...your a liberal....so what's your point....Obama will be going back to Chicago come January 2013...
I still support Newt, he looks the most like dough stuffed in to a suit.
I think Newt looks more like the Michelin Man.
The only GOP candidate I'd like to hear more from is Huntsman. He seems like the sane one, but he never talks.
hey dixy girl your looser of a pack of fools make obummer look like a genious
Newt and Perry looks like "Pinky and the Brain" two idiot rats trying to dominate the world.
And just think,anyone of them is better than Obama.And by the time the elections come around if were not in martial law anyone of them well beat the dimwit we have now.
As a socially liberal fiscal conservative gun rights advocate and generic democrat-voting libertarian, I find Ron Paul the most interesting because he actually THINKS. You can't be a doctor and just regurgitate the crap other people tell you to say and call everyone names and smile for cameras. Romney really IS an empty suit. He's tall, imposing and pretty handsome but if you put his background and his speaking record into someone else he wouldn't even be in the primary, he'd be a nobody. Don't even get me started on Newt. That guy's got more baggage than American Airlines, and everybody knows it. Newt in the general election will be Herman Cain all over again and the GOP shotcallers know it. He'll never get the nomination. Mitt is the safe choice from their perspective but he hasn't got a prayer in a country that's hungry for something new. IMO, someone like Ron Paul probably would have the best shot at winning in a General because he's liberal enough on some issues to steal Obama voters who are disillusioned with his first term but the fact of the matter is he's an old white guy and he'll be sitting under the GOP ticket so you can be damn sure he'll get the GOP base. That's why he's the smart choice, but philosophically GOP shotcallers can't identify with him, so he won't get it.
JohnUSMC: WTF IS A " a socially liberal fiscal conservative gun rights advocate and generic democrat-voting libertarian"
someone who has a brain.... (and knows how to use it)
The reason you find Ron Paul so interesting is because he's not actually a Republican. I'm the same way, out of all of the potential "GOP" candidates, he's the only one I'd vote for.
Bernie-548913,
JohnUSMC is just what he said he is - a true middle-of-the-road independent, who is socially liberal (that means open-minded), fiscally conservative (that probably means he disagrees with some of the excessive government spending that has been been going on for more than 10 years) and democrat-voting (because the GOP/TPers have gone over the edge of a cliff) libertarian. John said what he meant and meant what he said. Simple.
Ron Paul has served his country well by shaping the debate. I don't think he could win however. But I like him.
Ron Paul is right about the Federal Reserve. To some extent he is right about policing the world. He is extremely naive how easy it would be to pull back aid and mind our own business. He said tonight he doesn't understand all the fighting. That is really a ridiculous notion. True he doesn't waver in his POV, but actually that isn't a good thing. Being president requires compromise not just here in the US, but across the world. Obama from Day 1 decided not to compromise since he believes everything the republicans believe in is inherently wrong. So how can he compromise? Equally how can the republicans work with Obama and many democrats believing they are doing so much harm.
Today if a candidate has changed his/her mind they are ridiculed or it is suggested they are just pandering. Throughout a person's lifetime they may change a lot. That is the process. We are suppose to work through issues and evolve. What we should be listening to is why that person changed their mind.
Ron Paul said it best. If you want to worry about honoring something, try your oath of office! Can someone tell me why we need 900 foreign military bases. Ron Paul 2012.
theboys
In today's political environment, someone who doesn't change his views faster than a clock ticking is a breath of fresh air. I assure you that given a cogent persuasive argument backed up with facts Ron Paul will change his positions.
Everybody has done two things in relation the Dr Paul;
1. ridiculed his positions by calling him crazy, well I like his brand of crazy since it originated with the Founding Fathers, I love their brand of crazy.
2. Attempt to steal his positions, Perry with the shutting down, I dunno some departments of the government, Mittney with his pulling all the troops back and cutting defense spending, Santy on immigration, the grinch did one of them but I can't find the reference this second.
One thing everyone has to see, Ron Paul HAS moved the debate, I think most people know this and are withholding their real opinions until voting day....
He is clearly the only principled thinking man on the stage....
He Could win if you support him, Don't pick the person who you think will win, pick the person that you want. This is not sports that your betting on. This is the future of your Children. I'm Ind. and like sane people running things. The GOP and Dems are always attacking each other rather than telling you what they would do for the People. Don't get sucked in their petty bull.
John, good post
It's just not the same without Cain. Nine ass clowns were better than eight.
Bereft of Cain, now get ready for Newtity.
There were only six candidates on stage, genius. You must've gone to school the same place Obobo learned there were 57 states...
Bars a racist squid?
To: Pa tBoston Ma You go boy. Vote for the best looking. That seems to be your what motivates you to vote. Are you a faggot or just mentally challenged or maybe both. No wonder our country is in such deep @!$%#! Are you old enough to vote? I hope not. Go take a civics course!
c'mon Fred. You know you can't say faggot on First Read.
They will come after you and ban you for thirty-seven years after they have pulled out every fingernail and toenail you have (one by one!).
I shudder to think of what pain is about to befall you.
So sad Herman Cain didn't attend. He is still liking his Ginger wound. Hypocrite!
Newt or Mitt will make mincemeat out of Obama once they starta debating about Obama's accomplishment as Presiident. The direction he has taken the country and how much poorer everyone is even those who are lucky to hold a job. Sick of all Obama negative bashing and blame game. Obama is the problem and America deserves "hope" which Obama has not delivered. Just watching Obama speak these days, the sparkle is all gone ..... he's not shining bright anymore.
Good for you, can I help you make the country even safer for the uber=rich?
I like the no mention of Ron Paul,the only smart person who would do whats needed,and get us out of wars.
How about shovel-ready jobs and then laughing that it was all a lie to get the stimulus bill passed? That's what the voters will remember, not Bin Laden. Remember Bush had a 91% job approval rating after Desert Storm and went on to lose re-election a year later. It's the economy stupid, and on that Obama has failed miserably.
It's not Obama that supposedly "failed"....Look at the repubs in congress going against everything, EVERYTHING even when it's good for us. Blame them....not Mr. Obama !
Obama is the President. He is THE leader. He said he is the one to bring the nation together. His anti-business, anti-wealthy, pro-tax and pro-regulation rhetoric stalled economic recovery in his first three years. He is just now talking about tax cuts and putting the brakes on the EPA two months ago on regulations. Liberals and conservatives alike agree Steve Jobs was a genius, and he was an Obama supporter from day one. But he said in his biography that he was tired of Obama’s blame game for his inability to be an effective leader. He is not alone. Independents voted for Obama by 67%. Only 34% of the same independents now give Obama a positive job approval rating.
"He is just now talking about tax cuts"
You, like so many others, have forgotten about the tax cuts that occurred in the first year of the Obama presidency. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/19/us/politics/19taxes.html?hp
Dr,
And you chose to ignore the other half of my statement which is more regulations restricting economic recovery. I recall the speech where Obama threatened to drive the electric industry out of business if they build any more coal-fired power plants. I recall the so-called financial reform making it more difficult for businesses as well as regular working people to get loans because banks reacted by tightening their lending rules. I recall Obama kept reminding the “fat cats on Wall Street” that he was out to get them. In summary, it was three years of Obama versus the private sector job creators, either by deed or by threats. You don’t expect businesses to start hiring during a recession if you tell them “I give you a little tax break but I will make it more difficult than ever for you to start a new or expand an existing business”.
And lets not forget Pelosi telling the Republicans that they were not needed and to take a hike.....
Well, she's got a point, there, Egilman...
" In summary, it was three years of Obama versus the private sector job creators, either by deed or by threats."
Really? Wonder why there's been positive private sector job growth for the last 20 months straight, then? http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/political-animal/2011_12/private_sector_jobs_picture_al033849.php
Once the freefall of job losses that began in 2006 was staunched, those big bad regulations haven't seem to stifle private sector job growth like you are asserting.
Yeah, she's got a point there, and if she wears a hat, no one will see it.
Gimmethenews, there seems to be something wrong your post of Sun Dec 11, 2011 10:12 pm est; I think it’s the lack of information.
For example, you tell us: “Once the freefall of job losses that began in 2006 was staunched”; but you don’t tell us how many jobs were lost starting in 2006, and you don’t tell us when the job loss was “staunched”.
Next, you tell us: “those big bad regulations haven't seem (sic) to stifle private sector job growth like you are asserting.”; but you fail to tell us what that or those assertions are, and who’s asserting them.
Can you please fill in the blanks?
Arkius -
Read the post I was replying to, read my post and the attached link. All will become clear.
If any of them had a brain, they'd take it out and play with it
talking from experience?
It's pretty intense dumb & dumber.
I'm thinking Huntsman is looking better and better. Maybe he is the real answer to the rest of these jokers. I want to hear more from him because the rest are completely out of touch with reality.
Chad, most conservatives likely believe Huntsman would make a good Democrat.
That is probably why he has done poorly in polls to date.
I was one conservative that was truly looking forward to Huntsman. I really thought he would bring a lot to the debates. Frankly, I have never been so disappointed. It isn't so much for his policies, but his scorn for others in the debate. It is almost like he believes he is so far above them. Really, I wanted to like him. He is just not very nice.
Here we go - do I hear Huntsman? Hurry up you only have a short time to make him the front runner...............and his daddy needs some money to help.
Huntsman is the new John Anderson. Like Anderson, Huntsman will be a non-factor if he runs as an independent because there are just as many RINOs as there are blue dog Democrats who are fed up with Obama.
These debates have taken on the Moe/Larry & Curley show atmosphere. Now all we have to do is figure out which one is Moe, which one is Larry and which one id Curley!!! Lets have a vote and see which one gets the honors.
I think dixie girl is Moe!!!!!
Iowa???? Them people pissed or sump-um?
