The Week Ahead: In the spotlight

Two more debates, Can Newt Gingrich handle the spotlight? President Obama welcomes back soldiers from Iraq, a new NBC-WSJ poll, and Mitt Romney raises money.

Wow!

Slow day at the First Read ranch around here today!

Did the Christmas Party start early or something? ;o)

All kidding aside, it's been a hell of a week in the world of politics, and I want to say thanks to our hosts who keep us on our toes!

It's been decided here in IL that dead beat daddy Joe Walsh (R) IL will run against Tammy Duckworth here in my district.

It is also being reported the Weeper of the House has already pledged 3.1 MILLION in funding Joe's race.

If I were Boenher, I would want a FULL accounting of the funds to make sure dead beat Joe doesn't use any of it to pay off the $117,000 he owed in BACK child support!

Bring it on Joe - you will go down in flames!

See you all over @ the Dew Drop Inn - we have snow on the ground so I think something warm & spicy is in order!

Well it’s coming up on that time of the week. I don’t know about you’ll folks but I’m about wore out. But as usual we’ve all had a good time. Giggled a little at each other. Tweaked each other a mite. Had to rub on a bruise or two. Don’t look like no permanent harm has befallen anybody. So before I slide on out the door down to the Dew Drop Inn to make sure the Juke Box has gotten refilled with all the latest requests and we’ve got that extra bartender to make sure that everybody gets their favorites just right I want to pass on a thought or two.

Johnny and Johnette come marching home. I like the sound of that. In your travels we hope that you’ll stop by the Dew Drop Inn. Your money’s no good there and a bunch of folks are just standing around waiting to prove it. Merry Christmas, Feliz Navidad, Happy Kwanza and Peaceful Hanukah on you and yours. If you have the time and inclination please take advantage of a complimentary evenings stay at the Comeback Inn. We’ve got specially reinforced Chandeliers and many activities and babysitting services for the Munchkins. Just the ticket for working some of the stress off after a long deployment.

As always my thanks and appreciation to our hosts for their time, giving me a little place to stand, a subject to comment on, a forum to put it in, and their indulgence when I don’t quite get it right or get a little off subject. I purely do appreciate it. Hope you’ll have a fine weekend and good fun among folks that you know and love. To my fellow participants keep well, keep safe, and keep the faith. We’ll make it. See you’ll next week

Drive-By in honor of Mr. Trumps hosting a debate and Mr. Gingrich taking him up on it hit C-3 “Goodbye Cruel World” by Bobby Darin. I think Old Newt and The Republican/T.P. party has finally gone off the deep end.

Hey, Uncle Redneck -

I'm not on the babysitting roster, am I? I promise I'll do anything else, up to and including shoveling snow in the parking lot. Of course I'm weird - I actually LIKE shoveling snow. Just not good with kids.

I know we've got a bunch of other versions of this on the Juke Box, but here's one for the folks who are still deployed. Hopefully someday soon it won't be "if only in my dreams" for anyone.

PS. Will be making 'the caramels' this weekend, order early, folks - they go FAST!

Buzz, please play B17 - Crazy by Patsy Cline courtesy of the Trump three ring circus on 12-27.

I gotta' scat; but Benchwarmers are on me and I will send up some Fowl Play chili, seems appropriate (ground turkey and shredded chicken with all the fixens). See you all on the flip side!

There are a string of GOP idiots chasing our President with their tongues hanging out. They really think the manufactured "Fast & Furious" is going be the scandal of the century. In fact, they are so delusional they think it could harm his presidency.

What a bunch of morons they are. All the business they haven't taken care namely J-O-B-S makes them think that garbage is gonna stick. The Tea Pary Nuts have an albatross around their neck. No matter how much those little puppies run in behind our President they'll never catch him

IR, another terrific wind down for the week.

Time to head to the Dew Drop for some pre-Christmas cheer to celebrate our troops homecoming. Have a safe and fun weekend.

Sign me up to read stories and play some games with the little ones. I'm thinking "Fools Rush In" should be on tap for those scampering to the Newster as their latest knight in shining armor.

Feisty, that's great news about Tammy Duckworth. She's terrific. I'm thinking Boehner and friends can send all the cash they want to Joe Walsh and all Tammy needs to do is run two ads: one pointing out the $117,000 in child support owed by the family values guy and the other of Walsh screaming at constituents. That'll about put the dirt over him.

Bev, it's darn cold here, too; and woke up to snow!

W-T-F is wrong with Chris Matthews? In his “Let me Finish ” segment tonight he is rooting for Newt. And likening our President to Carter. Is this what they pay him for? I can’t believe MSNBC continues to let him do this. I know it’s owned by the gazillion dollar Comcast; but Pleaeezzzeee, MSNBC is supposed to be leaning forward; not backwards.

Chris has been bashing our President ever since he started pimping his book. I'm too through with Chris. I will not watch him anymore. I am asking all my friends to turn him off.

The week ahead - it doesn't matter what happens in the Iowa debate or the Caucus for that matter. It doesn't matter if the Payroll tax cuts are extended/increased again, it doesn't matter if snippets of Obama's AJA legislation are implemented, it doesn't matter if unemployment squeaks down, the big and only story that will affect us all is what happens in Europe. Don't be fooled or believe the sharks on Wall Street, they know it is coming and their wild speculation and profits the last couple weeks will disappear soon enough.

____________

Stocks end higher for 2nd straight week

Money.msn.com- Charley Blaine

Disaster didn't strike the euro zone -- not yet, anyway -- and stocks are strongly higher today, with the major averages recovering all of Thursday's losses.

The big driver was the apparent agreement among most European countries to negotiate a new treaty that would strengthen their fiscal ties in hopes of preventing the currency's collapse. But Britain pointedly would not join the party, and many skeptics said the deal won't work.

Despite all that, there was a big rally in European stocks and a rally in the United States that's just about as large. Given the skepticism about Europe, how long the cheer will last is a big question….

So, what's wrong with the euro deal?
Lots, if you listen to American and British commentators. Britain may leave the European Union altogether; it's been a member for 40 years. It's unknown how that will affect business between the United Kingdom and the Continent. If Britain's leaving disrupts business in Europe, it could affect U.S. business as well.

______

We should all hope that the eurozone doesn't collapse and European countries fail and drag us down with them.

Not to get off topic here, but I think the recent SCOTUS gaffe by Perry officially puts him into the "dead as a candidate" category.

Even among republicans that fool is a moron, and believe you me that is a low bar to get under. Maybe he should enter a "limbo" contest. I will miss his reliably stupid remarks, and vacuous manner. People like Perry make it easy to be anti-Republican, and are a walking, breathing commercial for the Democratic Party.

That having been said Feisty, IR, Dear Jody and Clara please order me a slice of pizza with crab meat and pineapple from Gino's East and a Kahlua and cream. Gonna chill at the DDI and drink in the elixir of my new-found friends moppin' the floor with the righties. Best way to clean up Feisty's Diet Coke I can think of. You go sweetie! :o)

There is a of material of "Mental Madness" of "Nutty Newt" that can be put under the circus spotlight. Now playing under the GOP Lobbyist Circus Big Top!! Yes America! It is"Nutty Newt" the Confederate States Of America Politician that loves to puke. He loves to "Super Spew" on all and any topics setting off the GOP "Barf Meter." The "Spotlight" should be put on his many sexual affairs, his ethical violations, and his continued views of voting YES for voter suppression. The GOP Circus Spotlight will come beaming down from the ceiling of the GOP Circus Big Top on "Nutty Newt." Yes America! This Confederate States Of America Politician does not believe in Child Labor Laws, the Civi Rights Act Of 1964, the US Constitution, or even the Bill Of Rights. Is the GOP Spotlight going to be shining on these facts??? I hope so! How about the facts that "Nutty Newt" is a "Closet Birther," who loves to drink rotten "Tea." "Nutty Newt" is going to make the economic plight of poor children into a Reality Show. It will be called. "The Confederate Apprentice!" "Trampy Trump" will be hosting the show from one of his favorite Dice Tables. The poor children will come up one at a time, and roll the dice. If they roll wrong?? They are gone! How about the fact that "Nutty Newt" has no clue about Foreign Policy issues, and would be politically crushed in any debate with the President. That is fact! Will the GOP Spotlight be pointed at "Nutty Newt's" huge EGO??? How about his severe "Behavioral" issues?? I hope so! Getting sick of the GOP Clown Show yet America??? I hope so!

    hey Progressive,

I'd tell you to listen to the Repub debate tonight but you'd probably get confused.

You'd hear, for the first time, things about REAL JOBS, supporting our friends and isolating our enemies, REAL ENERGY independence and bringing about a transformation in the Education system.

The focus tonight will be on solutions, not how to throw more govt. money after bad govt. money at the same old problems...........the problems which Democrats have no clue how to solve.

Despite the nay sayers on the left in a generic pollObama still LOSES his bid for re-election, to whom, anyone else. Didn't all you all see the resnt poll on msnbc? 54% of Americans do not want Obama re-elected. 54% of Americans do not believe Obama shares their policy ideas, and an even more significant number, 75% of Americans believe country headed in WRONG direction. Even worse news for the left, Obamas above approval numbers are LOWER than 4 previous Presidents, including.............George W. Bush. That number is significant because unlike Bush, the media is trying its best to still cheerlead and prop up poor Barry. So progressively downwards, chew on those numbers and tell yourself that the mantra(lies) you liberals will save your precious POTUS's job. And the coupe-de-gracey, no President since FDR has ever been re-elected with unemployment numbers above 8%. And neither the Republicans or the American public want to pass a TEMPORARY "jobs bill", that will TEMPORARILY hire enough public service workers(by using private sector tax dollars) to ARTIFICIALLY elevate unemployment numbers(above 8%), to save Obama's job. By spending private sector tax dollars(the evil rich) to temporarily hire public service workers for one year, would only raise the deficit because the tax money will be gone, the pulbic service workers would again be laid-off due to lack of funding. And that would again be taking America in the WRONG direction. Americans know Obama was given plenty of money to fix the problem with the stimulus and debt ceiling increase he was already given. And when Obama has to start campaigning against his OWN RECORD, no smoke and mirrors mantra about, "its Bush's fault and Congresses fault" is going to explain away the ECONOMY. Because whom ever wins the Republican nomination, will have plenty of "gaffs" to rub Barry's nose in. Solyndra, fast and furious, where did all the stimulus go and so on and so on and so forth............have a great weekend

And by the even Democrat stratagist admit that Obama's only hope of winning re-elction is to try to convince the Nation to IGNORE si first 4 years, and that the next 4 years will be better. But no Mr.President we are not going to IGNORE the past. And with the aid of debates and the NEW media, this time around you will get the VETTING you should have gotten in the first place. Bill Ayers and Rev.Wright will be drug out from their skeleton closets, along with the rest of your czars and "green " and union buddies, and it WILL be put on parade for all of America to see. SO HOPE all you want to BARRY and liberals, you are not going to CHANGE the subject this time. So hold on Dems, "its going to be a bumpy ride"..............;0)

I'm sure the Chicago "mafia style" Mayor Rahm Emanuel will happily find another job for Obama, if he has to return home after losing the Presidential election.

Heck, I bet Andy Stern and Trumpka would even give Obama a "strong arm" position in the Unions.

Only problem if Obama loses....... Michelle won't be able to fly in Airforce One all over the globe and it send it back on solo trips for the dog Bo.

Poor Leona still has no clue that the GOP Lobbyists in the House voted to destroy Social Security. Leona stil does not comprehend that the GOP "Hoodlum's On The Hill" voted to give even larger Oil Subsidies to big oil paid for by the American People. Now the confusion for Leona just continues to spew on. Like the rambling thoughts running around in "Nutty Newt's" disturbed mind. Yes America! President Obama is very Presidential, and he is able to read on his own. Now this is very confusing to Leona, because the concept of an intellectual President is just too scary. Now the GOP Lobbyists like "Mickey Mouse Mitch McConnell" made it very clear Leona. To destroy an American President at all costs. Yes Leona! This is "Political TREASON!" Now the GOP Lobbyists have not mentioned anything about repealing the "Brainless Bush" for the rich only tax cuts. This equals no revenuw coming in to pay for expenses, which means huge budget deficits. Remember to THINK before you speak. Then RESEARCH before you write. Lastly, Read over everything that is researched carefully to seperate fact from the recent GOP "Myths." That is Fact!
