WEST DES MOINES, IA-- On his maiden trip to Iowa as a surrogate for Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was knocked off message tonight by a group of protestors who briefly hijacked his rally here.
The protestors, who represented a group called Occupy Iowa Caucus, chanted anti-Wall Street slogans as they were led outside by Romney staffers, then escorted off the property by police. "We're used to dealing with jokers like this all the time," Christie joked as the protestors were removed, "Don't worry about it."
The New Jersey governor quickly recovered, saying that any appearance of his without a "YouTube moment" would be incomplete, and that the protestors would likely be performing at a local hotel after the event. He also said their anger was misdirected, and that they should have been more upset with the White House, not him.
"Their anger is rooted in the fact that they believed this hope and change garbage."
Quickly back on message, Christie looked to make his case for Romney here in Iowa, a state where the latest polls show the former Massachusetts governor trailing Newt Gingrich by double digits.
Christie was asked by an undecided voter to tell her a story about Romney he hadn't told anyone yet -- one that might earn her support. Christie answered by launching into a story about Romney visiting Christie's New Jersey home in the wake of the governor's decision not to run for president. He said Romney's connection with his children helped seal the deal and earn his support.
"Every time they came in, he would call them over and would be having side conversations with them. The reason I tell you that is because you can’t fake that. You know, politicians can be taught to fake a lot of things, you can’t fake that," Christie said. "This is someone who I know has an extraordinary heart. He loves his wife. He loves his children. And he has absolutely no hesitation in showing that affection over them. Now, that’s not what you see on TV all the time, but I sat in my backyard for 2.5 hours and watched him talk to my children."
Christie wrapped up his story by saying he knew Romney was "somebody who I’d be proud to represent my country."
"First and foremost, when you look at candidates, say, 'Is this the kind of person who's always going to make me proud in the Oval Office and never have to worry will embarrass America? That I'll never have to worry will do something that will just make me ashamed? [Romney] won't."
Twice, Christie was asked about serving as Romney's vice president. The New Jersey governor tried on several different denials -- saying he loved the job he was in, that others would be better suited, and that he made a promise to his state.
"You saw me deal with those Occupy people," Christie joked. "Do I look like somebody's VP?"
But he did not discount the possibility outright, saying it would be "impolite."
"I wouldn't bet on Romney-Christie at the moment," Christie said, wrapping up the topic. "But one never knows."

The protesters were lucky Christie didn't eat them alive! He's got some appetitte!
The protesters should be out in front of the home of Corzine ( ex Govenor of NJ) .....you remember, he's that criminal who stole multi- millions from his clients and gave some of the money to the Obama campaign !!
".....you remember, he's that criminal who stole multi- millions from his clients and gave some of the money to the Obama campaign"
Some credible proof for those allegations you're slinging around so freely, please.
DrDrGimme,
I guess you're one of those lefties who accepts Corzine's statement "I have no idea what happened to close to a billion dollars."
LOL
"I guess you're one of those lefties who accepts Corzine's statement "I have no idea what happened to close to a billion dollars.""
I guess you wouldn't have a clue what I think about that, but I also guess that won't stop you from making assumptions. It never has before.
LOL
LEONA,
Do you mean by protesters the OWS movement? Where are your Tea Party people. They seem to like to disrupt other politicians during their rallies. Like Elizabeth Warren running for the Senate in Mass. At least she handled it with dignity and reserve. Same with this President when the OWS protested his rally, listened to their views, gave his thoughts, and didn't spout off rude remarks.
Those are traits that the conservatives seem to lack when someone disagrees with their views.
There are a lot easier ways to throw christie off his game when making his speeches. Just throw glazed donuts near his podium and he would be diving left and right trying to catch them to stuff them in to his blow hole. Please note that all precautions must be made that the pastries be thrown clear of the crowd or you run the risk of having folks in the audience being crushed to death.
I would just like to hear about 1 great thing this man Christie has done.I'm not so sure his resume is much longer than being rude to teachers, reporters, occupiers and just about anybody else he doesn't agree with.He is the quintesential example for what's wrong with our country at this moment. He's a confrontational blowhard who could care less about anyone elses opinion or hardship. It's his way or the highway and that's no way to run a state let alone a country.
The compassionate polotician would've ammicably addresses the protesters and intelligently shot down their grievances.I mean if occupiers are idiots and Christy is a governmental genius then I'm sure with a few short intelligent sentences he could persuade them to reevaluate their positions, but instead he makes fun of them and they get kicked out and he doesn't even have to actually discuss any of the problems we are facing. As I'm sure that's what he wants.
We are all Americans and all our opinions matter even if I don't agree with you I would still listen.
I think most Americans are just totally fed-up with of all the political correctness BS that permeates our society today and has for decades. It is very refreshing to see a politician like Christie who does not subscribe to that. He tells it like it is and doesn't care if some minority group or individual might be offended by his speaking the truth. That is the key to his immense popularity with conservatives. He is simply an honest man who speaks the truth regardless of any negative consequences he may suffer. We need more people like him in Washington DC!
Yes, we need more people to be rude to minority groups. And more people who are rude regardless of the consequences. Or not.
sorta like what Newt does also........
If you all want to see The Occuoy Movement explained, check out Adam Carollo defining it on YOUTUBE. Its dead solid perfect.
Adam Carolla - About the Occupy Mentality
Oh Lord! The right wing BULLIES are out here all at once. Loud and obnoxious of course. All riled up after a long day at church puffing up their self righteousness, passing judgement, ravaging the reputations of and scorning and shunning those people in the congregation who are not afraid to say they aren't of the Republican or right wing clan? Nothing like a good crowd of holier-than-thou haters to chase God's children out of HIS church and really piss off the God they were supposed to be worshiping. Fine example you're all setting for you young ones. Me and mine don't go to church anymore. Not welcome. I'm just not good enough because I don't agree with right wing politics. Somethings really wrong with that. Somethings really wrong with you nut jobs on here tonight too.
Right wing bullies??????.....LMAO........OWS west coast annouces they are gonna try to shut down every major port between Anchorage and San Diego and people like you call the police defending the public and enforcing our country's laws.....and people that support those laws and the police .........the "BULLIES"........too funny
Hope and change garbage, Is that what they are calling the destruction of millions of families and the country, now there are 1/3 living in or near the poverty level and half of everyone else having trouble making ends meet. The top 1% and the GOP on the hill, GOP Governors and the GOP candidates are trying to keep what has happened to this country in the last 50 years, they want their deregulations back, the regulations that had been taken away starting in the Carter era, the regulations that was placed in to law after the crash of 1932 from then till the 60’s this country was for the majority and monetary value was equally distributed. The top 1% will not be happy till 1/2 is living in poverty and 3/4 of everyone else is having trouble making ends meet.
They are against anything and everything that will help the country, the poor and middle class.
Everything in this country that is now being spend on the people, the states, jobs, welfare, health care, the military and education can be taken away every program, every bill, and guess what we will still be in debt and borrowing money way because the top 1% are still receiving trillions of dollars from refunds, subsides, loopholes and any other means of siphoning every dime from this country, why because the larger percent of these corporations and businesses are not paying a dime into the government though taxes or any other means, the largest part of them are considered to be a small company and are getting all the benefits that a small mom and pop business would get and they have their accountants making such their bottom line is 0 and below so they can get large refunds.
Watch this it is an old show but it is still true today, if not more so.
Small in name only
A look at the reality behind the Republicans argument that classifies small business and the tax cut they receive.

Here is what happened to this country
After the 1932 crash all types of regulations were put into effect for the banks and Wall Street The Glass–Steagall Act of 1932 and for the next 50 years this country was for the majority and monetary value was equally distributed, but after all the deregulation started to be enacted (50 years ago) the biggest one of all was the Repeal of the The Glass-Steagall Act by the; Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act of 1999 after this all the wealth went to the top 1%.
But, put back into law with the Frank-Dodd Act 2010. But it lacks one important issue the banks can still be “to big to fail”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodd%E2%80%93Frank_Wall_Street_Reform_and_Consumer_Protection_Act
So you are saying when Bill Clinton repealed Glass-Steigall in 1999......that gave the 1% it's wealth???
Dodd-Frank also did nothing to the Mortgage industry, Fannie/ Freddie, or the derivatives market either.....all helped cause our current crisis.
Yes and Clinton has regretted this since, but the new regulations will get stronger if we could have more bipartisanship maybe in a few years if we are lucky, if not we will all be at the mercy of the top 1% forever.
New law is crap.....does not stop ...to big ti fail. did not regulate derivatives, and did nothing.....not even mentioned....to Fannie/Freddie..........was political showboating
Be vigilant: What ever you may think of President Obama Good, bad or indifferent! Any elected GOP POTUS will be a carbon copy/clone of all GOP Governors elected in 2010, and want to complete the state of affairs they started. There is no recall for a POTUS.
At least President Obama has moral and ethical values in his private, personal, public and political life. And he is for the 99% and jobs
Not one of the GOP candidates or any GOP member on the hill has come up with a good jobs plan.
You can not deregulate everything in this country without having really bad repercussions from it, which caused the crash in 2008, then
Start two wars not paid for, then
Have a drug bill not paid for
Then have a tax bill passed that benefited the top 5% the most
Then have a law that gives big tax breaks for large corporations to dismantle and move businesses, factories, manufacturing plant and jobs oversea.
Which caused the unemployment rate to be 9+
Which caused over 1/3 of this countries populous to be living in poverty or near the poverty level
And 48 percent of the populous to having a hard time making ends meet.
People want to work, they are not lazy, they do not want anyone giving them anything, but the GOP will not pass any jobs bills.
Receiving without working for it, where do you suppose the biggest part of what we borrow is going to, the refunds to corporations that are listed as small businesses because of one line on the tax code, no matter how much money they make still get all the benefits of a small business, one example is Bechtel), that with the help of their accountants gets their bottom line on their tax forms to 0+ below, then receives billions in bailouts, refunds, subsides and loopholes.
For this nation to prosper again, everyone most pay their fair share including the top 1%.
You are wrong.
All the GOP "jobs plans" are sitting on Harry Reid's desk. He won't bring them to a vote.
Ask Sen Manchin (D) what he thinks of Obama.
He's a Democrat Senator and he can't believe Obama does not work with both Parties to find solutions. He said it's because Obama's in campaign mode and is using rhetoric to attack the other side.
"All the GOP "jobs plans" are sitting on Harry Reid's desk. He won't bring them to a vote."
Because they all involve gutting regulatory policies on business and/or repealing healthcare reform.
And this would be the same Manchin who voted for HCR, and then stated he was against it? And that would make him an authority on what, exactly?
We could pay off the entire national debt
Just by stopping this, giving all these companies bailouts, subsides, tax refunds, and rebate from the IRS
With the GOP refusing to even cut subsides, loopholes and refunds
Nearly two-thirds of U.S. companies and 68% of foreign corporations do not pay federal income taxes, according to a congressional report released Tuesday. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) examined samples of corporate tax returns filed between 1998 and 2005. In that time period, an annual average of 1.3 million U.S. companies and 39,000 foreign companies doing business in the United States paid no income taxes – despite having a combined $2.5 trillion in revenue.
The following ten companies received trillions in tax refunds after making billions profit. With a “0” on their bottom line of the income tax form
The following ten companies received a total of $4,517,288,000,000 bailouts, tax refunds, and rebate from the IRS.
If this number was divided equally between the ten here is what it would be. $451,728,800,000
1. Now multiply this figure just by the 39,000 foreign companies that paid no taxes.
2. Now multiply by the 1.3 million U. S. companies that paid no taxes and got refunds
3. Now multiply 1 & 2 by 10 for the ten years of the Bush tax cuts
Bank of America received a $1.9 billion tax refund from the IRS last year, although it made $4.4 billion in profits and received a bailout from the Federal Reserve and the Treasury Department of nearly $1 trillion.
In 2009 Exxon made $19 billion in profits, PAID NO FEDERAL INCOME taxes and was given a $156 million rebate from the IRS. This does not even count for their subsidies, money for research and development, tax breaks for sending jobs overseas, loopholes,
Bank of America received a $1.9 billion tax refund from the IRS last year, although it made $4.4 billion in profits and received a bailout from the Federal Reserve and the Treasury Department of nearly $1 trillion.
Over the past five years, while General Electric made $26 billion in profits in the United States, it received a $4.1 billion refund from the IRS.
Chevron received a $19 million refund from the IRS last year after it made $10 billion in profits in 2009.
Boeing, which received a $30 billion contract from the Pentagon to build 179 airborne tankers, got a $124 million refund from the IRS last year.
Valero Energy, the 25th largest company in America with $68 billion in sales last year received a $157 million tax refund check from the IRS and, over the past three years, it received a $134 million tax break from the oil and gas manufacturing tax deduction.
Goldman Sachs in 2008 only paid 1.1 percent of its income in taxes even though it earned a profit of $2.3 billion and received an almost $800 billion from the Federal Reserve and U.S. Treasury Department.
Citigroup last year made more than $4 billion in profits but paid no federal income taxes. It received a $2.5 trillion bailout from the Federal Reserve and U.S. Treasury.
ConocoPhillips, the fifth largest oil company in the United States, made $16 billion in profits from 2007 through 2009, but received $451 million in tax breaks through the oil and gas manufacturing deduction.

The Repubs want to reform the tax system and do away with loopholes.
Obama is putting any reforms off until after the election so that he can call the Repubs the "party of no."
To bad more people are not really with the 99%, this is what they are fighting for all of us, The top 1% is wrecking havoc on our country and causing all this chaos for one reason and one reason only and that is to bring the president down. One week after the president was sworn in Senator Mitch McConnell said “our one and only mission is to bring President Obama down and make him a one term president, now what I would like to know, how did they know in one week if the president would or would not do a good or bad job, or was it something else entirely.

Really?

Perhaps Govcernor Christie should throw his hat in the ring for the next season.........

Let's see Bob Harper get hold of the Jersey Lard-ass.
Leona is a typical narrow viewed repug who forgets it is the repukes blocking progress.
dembarb,
When are you propaganda spewing Liberals going to tell the truth?
Harry Reid controls the Senate and he won't bring Repub bills to the floor.
Did you hear Sen. Manchin(D) say that he can't believe his own party (the Dems) won't work to find compromise with the Repubs and that they are playing politics in order to get Obama re elected?
Sen.Manchin said that if he acted the way the Dems are now, when he was Govenor, he would have been impeached.
Leona... all we heard from Eric Cantor, Mich McConnel and John Boener was JObs, jobs jobs, jobs, jobs... like some Gregorian Chant .... ..now that they're in .. all they have voted on are abortions, gay rites and dis-enfranchising Voters and Union Workers. . . Please Name one ,,,, JUST ONE , piece of Jobs Legislation that your scum-bags in COngress have brought to the floor.. ??? please ... just ONE !!!!
You sound like the typical silly republican ... you're not sure who you're gonna vote for ... because Fox New hasn't quite told you who you have to pull the lever for ... but to be sure... you will be given your Marching orders.. you will be told what 2 and 3 word sound bites you will regurgitate on this blog .. and then, like the Obedient and Faithful , albeit, Mindless Automiton, you will pulll the lever for .... Williard Mitt Romney .... but not until you're told of course...
Sorry to tell you this but where ever you got your information from it was wrong. Here are the jobs bills that your precious GOP in the house is talking about and why Senator Reid won't do anything with them:
Boehner keeps saying that the Senate is ignoring his 15 bills he passed and sent to the Senate that he claims will create jobs; 8 of those bills deal with de-regulating Wall Street, big banks, credit card companies, oil companies and health insurance companies, five deals with more oil drilling on and off shore and in/on federal land and parks
And if you go here you will see how your GOP in the house and senate voted including Speaker Boehner
http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/members/b000589/
Democrats in the House placed 10 job Bills on the floor since Jan. 2011 and they were all voted down or were not allowed to even come to the floor for discussion by the Republicans
