WEST DES MOINES, IA-- On his maiden trip to Iowa as a surrogate for Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was knocked off message tonight by a group of protestors who briefly hijacked his rally here.
The protestors, who represented a group called Occupy Iowa Caucus, chanted anti-Wall Street slogans as they were led outside by Romney staffers, then escorted off the property by police. "We're used to dealing with jokers like this all the time," Christie joked as the protestors were removed, "Don't worry about it."
The New Jersey governor quickly recovered, saying that any appearance of his without a "YouTube moment" would be incomplete, and that the protestors would likely be performing at a local hotel after the event. He also said their anger was misdirected, and that they should have been more upset with the White House, not him.
"Their anger is rooted in the fact that they believed this hope and change garbage."
Quickly back on message, Christie looked to make his case for Romney here in Iowa, a state where the latest polls show the former Massachusetts governor trailing Newt Gingrich by double digits.
Christie was asked by an undecided voter to tell her a story about Romney he hadn't told anyone yet -- one that might earn her support. Christie answered by launching into a story about Romney visiting Christie's New Jersey home in the wake of the governor's decision not to run for president. He said Romney's connection with his children helped seal the deal and earn his support.
"Every time they came in, he would call them over and would be having side conversations with them. The reason I tell you that is because you can’t fake that. You know, politicians can be taught to fake a lot of things, you can’t fake that," Christie said. "This is someone who I know has an extraordinary heart. He loves his wife. He loves his children. And he has absolutely no hesitation in showing that affection over them. Now, that’s not what you see on TV all the time, but I sat in my backyard for 2.5 hours and watched him talk to my children."
Christie wrapped up his story by saying he knew Romney was "somebody who I’d be proud to represent my country."
"First and foremost, when you look at candidates, say, 'Is this the kind of person who's always going to make me proud in the Oval Office and never have to worry will embarrass America? That I'll never have to worry will do something that will just make me ashamed? [Romney] won't."
Twice, Christie was asked about serving as Romney's vice president. The New Jersey governor tried on several different denials -- saying he loved the job he was in, that others would be better suited, and that he made a promise to his state.
"You saw me deal with those Occupy people," Christie joked. "Do I look like somebody's VP?"
But he did not discount the possibility outright, saying it would be "impolite."
"I wouldn't bet on Romney-Christie at the moment," Christie said, wrapping up the topic. "But one never knows."

Are we suppose to care what this lard-ass has to say? Holy mackerel, what a blowhard!
Yes, lets talk about something else...I've wondered why msnbc has downplayed the fact that obama's former buddy Blago is off to the slammer! Talk about fair and balanced journalism... you won't get it from the old liberal media!
Back to Blago, hope he keeps his mouth shut he's already pissed off Barry once, do it again and sleepy joe will be sent to visit him under the guise of paid jobs bill mission, lol! The former partnership of Rezko, Blago, Obama, and Emanuel is now down to two.... half the gang is in prison and the other half has their hands in the pockets of Chicago and DC..... who got the better end of that deal?
I wonder if Rezko and Blago will share their Lincoln Bedroom stories with the other inmates.... hell there's probably a lot more democratic politicians in the same Chicago prison. Our problem is one democrat goes to prison, another crooked democrat takes his place.... but not anymore....
Newt, Romney, Christie, Rubio, Santorum, Huntsman, et al ..... all light years better for the country than the Chicago community organizer we have now. God speed boys (and gals) the country needs you desperately! End the blatant corruption stop Soros and Goldman Sachs. Redact Obamacare and the good ole boy 'solyndra type' deals. Protect our borders, downsize the Fed..... there's a lot of work to be done and damage to fix!
I like Christie a lot! What a shame he didn't run this time! He makes Obama, the teleprompter politician look like a neophte neighborhood organizer by comparison! Opps, that's what he is! Sorry!
Christie would make a good Santa with a wig and beard but his role as Republican tough guy gets lost with the krispy creme visual.
obama would look good on a cover of Mad magazine, not in the Rose Garden. lol, it seems the anal banana's and Tom, jerka's have turned FR into a teenage tit for tat insult blog.... Libtard's r Us!
Tom, Are you kidding! It is Obama that no one listens to anymore.....he has no respect left on the Hill or across the country! But I will say he is still adored by the many small minded libbies at FR..... :0)))))
Well, Gov Christie, the 99ers are used to dealing "with jokers" like you, too--that's why they are out there protesting against the "jokers". While conservatives claim Christie's a straight talker, there's an equally large group of people who think he's a rude, loud-mouthed bully. Had a robo-call from Christie espousing the wonders of Mitt Romney and guess what, he's as loud and obnoxious on the phone as he appears on TV.
"He makes Obama, the teleprompter politician look like a neophte neighborhood organizer by comparison!"
Wow, two talking points in one sentence. FYI, every president since the invention of the teleprompter has used one, and Obama's resume is a lot longer than 'neighborhood organizer'.
Amazing to me how the 'occupiers' complain about others trying to restrict their 'freedom of speech' for anything they do, yet they have no problem screaming in other people's face when those folks are trying to speak.
A bunch of twits and loudmouths. Pretty hard to have any respect for them after the past couple of months.
Dr....
Mr. Obama's prior resume might be a bit longer that 'neighborhood (ie: community) organizer...but it's still quite a bit shorter than any other president 's resume that I can remember.
And after being told how smart he is by the media and on sites like this one, I still don't know anyone who has ever discussed the man's grades in school or college. How smart was he ? The press was digging up the school history on George Bush seemingly all the way back to kindergarten...and couldn't wait to show us all everything they found.
Mr. Obama can surely add another item to his 'resume'...that of "Wide Receiver"...because he's always catches a pass.
"Amazing to me how the 'occupiers' complain about others trying to restrict their 'freedom of speech' for anything they do, yet they have no problem screaming in other people's face when those folks are trying to speak."
Kind of like the Tea Partiers at the town halls across the country just a couple of years ago.
"Mr. Obama's prior resume might be a bit longer that 'neighborhood (ie: community) organizer...but it's still quite a bit shorter than any other president 's resume that I can remember."
Really? Here is Bush's resume: worked in Texas oil industry, worked for his dad's campaign, owned a baseball team, was governor of Texas for 1 1/2 terms. That's it. Reagan was an actor, president of a union, and governor of California. So Obama's resume of community organizer, civil rights attorney, professor of constitutional law, state senator and US senator is somehow 'quite a bit shorter' than these? Really? You realize he's younger than most of the immediately past presidents, right?
"And after being told how smart he is by the media and on sites like this one, I still don't know anyone who has ever discussed the man's grades in school or college. How smart was he ?"
Smart enough to graduate magna cum laude from Harvard.
"The press was digging up the school history on George Bush seemingly all the way back to kindergarten...and couldn't wait to show us all everything they found."
As well as John Kerry's. Until the release of college and high school transcripts are required to run for the office of president, it's nobody's business. And yet folks like you are still clamoring.
"because he's always catches a pass."
Right, like that birth certificate non-issue. /sarc/
Why is Christie in Iowa? Why is New Jersey paying this guy?
Dr...
I'm not clamoring...just tired of hearing how smart this guy is supposed to be when the evidence of performance in this job, in his one year in the US Senate, and his stint as state senator doee not indicate any superior wisdom.
As to resumes...yes...his resume is a short one filled with short term stints. You blow off being "Governor of Texas" and "Governor of California" like it's nothing. Well what it shows is that those two gents had actually run something...actually were in charge of things as "managers"...large organizations, to boot. "Governors" are more prepared to be presidents because of that. Bill Clinton showed that too. Being governors of two of the largest states in the country might seem puny in your eyes...when compared to being one of buckets of law professors across the country and then two short and accomplishment-lite stints as state and US senator.
And please don't confuse me with a tea partier just because I and millions of others look at the 'occupiers' as a bunch of nitwits. Nor should the behaviors of the folks at these messy OWS rallies be compared in any way to the behaviors of the people we saw in the news at the tea party events. Sorry...not even close in terms of simple civilized behavior.
And I personally could not care less where the president was born, so don't try to pin the birth certificate issue on my chest.
If you love the guy, fine. You're entitled to whatever opinion you'd like. And so am I. I think he is divisive and petulant...he is vindictive...and four years will have been far more than enough for this never-off-the -campaign-trail, tin-eared politician.
Why isn't he out there campaigning on his health care reform accomplishment...one would think he'd be so proud of all the wonderful things the bill will accomplish. But instead, he barely even mentions one of the largest reforms that's ever been done in...I mean 'to'...this country. And I believe that after the furtive and secretive way this plan was pushed thru, they then began to do the math and are seeing that the reform plan is not going to turn out to be what they said it would...and will cost oodles of dollars more than they ever anticipated. Despite the president's Harvard degree, it's not that he did the math wrong on health care reform, he simply didn't bother to do the math at all. Another 'shovel ready' financial mess in the making.
And if he can get enough voters into the voting booth who either do not pay federal income taxes and/or are unable to correctly spell his name...he will be re-elected. Can't wait for four more years of this crap ! He probably won't know what to do with himself without bleating the same tired lines at campaign rallies.
Bill...
"Why is Christie in Iowa ?"
I'll answre that if you can tell me "when" exactly...is Mr. Obama in Washington DC ?
So you're bummed about Obama's vacation? Let's see what CBS News said about vacation days taken by a few of our recent presidents, shall we?
"So far, President Obama has taken 61 vacation days after 31 months in office. At this point in their presidencies, George W. Bush had spent 180 days at his ranch where his staff often joined him for meetings. And Ronald Reagan had taken 112 vacation days at his ranch. Among recent presidents, Bill Clinton took the least time off -- 28 days."
You're going to need a new stick to beat Obama, tony: yours is broken.
Bill, I am a resident and taxpayer of N.J. and I have no problem with Gov. Christie being in Iowa. Do you think that we would be better off with our former Gov. John Corzine?
I say that before any Obama health care is repealed if Romney-Christie come into office, he must drop 100 pounds to set an example of leadership to us Americans who are doing everything we can just to have healthcare.
lisa s-1749992- Are you sure he's not using it as a partial vacation instead of back in New Jersey manning his desk? I think he should be back in New Jersey trying to create jobs for the unemployed, and finding a way to get gangster thugs off the streets. Isn't there enough pollution in Trenton to occupy him? Oh that's right the Republicans believe in deregulation, oh just let Trenton keep looking like a dung Heep. Oh that's right, Republicans don't believe in policy, that would mean a law, which would mean government, which would mean everything the GOP doesn't believe in.
Gov. Chris Christie is just as bad as the gov of Florida. He as well wants to end programs for the poor, you know, the one's that actually need the help, and instead, he wants to make sure the rich keep all their tax dollars and incomes. I wish at times he would choke on that tongue he looks like he's always eating when he speaks. This man is a political disease to our economy and country. He needs to go. Someone please, just toss his fat azz of a whale back into the ocean and send him back out to sea.
sail...
It's called "reading with comprehension"....I never said a word about Mr. Obama going on vacation and indeed wish he would vacation ever more so I do not have to see him giving the same horrid speech at campaign stops day after day after day.
It's the continuous campaign speeches...those I am sick of.
Arieus...
I take it that you are one of those compassionate, open-minded, bias-free, and caring liberal Democrats who I am continually reading about.
What nice words and thoughts you have for a fellow human being who just happens to see things differently than you do. Despite that, I am sure Governor Christie would wish the best to you and would never hope for even a second that you would "choke on your tongue" or wish any other harm would come to you. He'd likely recommend that ou have your bile level checked since the fluid spews out of you so profoundly.
lots of folks on here down on Obama..but so far I have not heard anything from any republican running for his office that even refers to the middle class with anything other than a way of talking down to them all..puting down the folks who have lost their jobs with the help of trade deals that do wonders for big business and international corporations..but not one job for those in the USA..as our congressional reps claimed we would get. If everyone is so sure that trickle down economics is going to work this time..though it has not ever worked before....then I guess some republican want to be is your guy.....granted, I am not happy with everything Obama has done..but he has at least tried to do something...what have any republicans done for the middle class at any time ? NAme a bill they have passed that helped the middle class..? All I have seen so far from them is the idea that all they want is to beat Obama..no matter what the cost to this country.
Horse hockey! POTUS is the first and only job he has ever had! When I was a hiring manager, his resume wouldn't have even made the "call back for an interview" list. Absolutely the most unqualified person we've ever had run for president...or vice president for that matter. He wouldn't even be able to get a security clearance if he wasn't POTUS, his background is so questionable.
Regards,
Mike
"POTUS is the first and only job he has ever had!"
Um, no. He's been a civil rights attorney in a private firm, see here: http://articles.latimes.com/2008/apr/06/nation/na-obamalegal6 and served 12 years as a professor of constitutional law at the University of Chicago law school, see here: http://www.law.uchicago.edu/media
And he was also a state and US senator, all real jobs even if YOU don't think so.
"When I was a hiring manager, his resume wouldn't have even made the "call back for an interview" list."
I'm guessing you weren't hiring lawyers or professors, were you?
"He wouldn't even be able to get a security clearance"
More right-wing claptrap. Obama was a member of the Senate committees for Foreign Relations as well as Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. How would that even be possible if he weren't eligible for a security clearance? Provide some credible evidence.
Is Mike telling fibs again? Shame!
Mike-1499840,
I have seen people in mental institutions that are allowed to be Presidents and hiring managers. Keeps their spirit up. I am sure a million hiring managers would hire Obama over you.
Definition of insanity is repubs living in a delusional world as usual, that's all i hear people are tired of Obama and his failed policies! Really repubs/conservatives! What failed policies are you talking are you talking about the policies that have been blocked by the obstructionist teabagger traitors in the house and senate! This is what i mean you people are delusional clowns!!
I love the way Christie says it like he sees it. So refreshing.
Getalifevirginia - Too bad Christie doesn't see correctly.
LOL this guy is a total " BLOW HARD"... Challenge him and back's down in two seconds !..He is like that clown Donald Frump ...and Humpty Diumpty Gingrich !
s.i.i.s (ie), #5
You are a bald faced liar! And you obviously don't live in N.J! Holy Sh!t, you libtards are so blinded by hatred you don't even know when you've stepped in crap and you do it everday with bonehead posts like that! Christie hasn't backed down to anyone and if you saw that meeting he had with Obama at the airport last summer it way Obama who left with a wet spot on his pants! And I would bet money, you've done the same thing when harrassed by bullies, which from your posts, I bet has happened frequently... put on some diapers and grow up boy!
Every few weeks across this country we hear about bullied kids committing suicide, and you think bullying is an admirable trait!?!
I hope we'll be seeing even less of you than we Seldom See(n) now.
you missed the point again Jack.... Sam was correctly pointing out that Say..... has a habit of popping off with the insults, but cowardly in not ever bringing up a relevant point. What's the purpose of FR anyway... just an outlet for libbie hatred and venom? It is say it ain't who's the cowardly bully, just like the other libbies at FR
Seldom Seen Sam Colorado All if have to say is. Talk about hate, your post is full of it. Does that make you proud?
" if you saw that meeting he had with Obama at the airport last summer it way Obama who left with a wet spot on his pants!"
Really? That's not what this picture looks like. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/chris-christie-too-fat-president-172219453.html
FOX news doesn't fill you full of hatred, huh?, Gee for some reason I want to hate everyone after listening to Hannity for 15 minutes.
Talk about out of touch Republican response....
and typical Republican reaction: denial of existence.
These were NOT "jokers" but American citizen VOTERS with a message to deliver pursuant to their constitutional rights to petition the government for redress of grievances, but the Republicans just pretend they don't exist, that they are an inconsequential "joke" etc.
WE DO NOT WANT NOR NEED THIS TYPE OF LEADERSHIP IN WASHINGTON D.C.!
OWS!
Well Romney brought out the big guy from NJ. Christie's testimonial about Romney liking little children and loves his family is a meant to be a contrast with... the other guy. The one who wants to put poor children to work and has a problem with keeping his family intact.
The garbage is you Christie. You are one of the most mean spirited politicans we have ever seen. You and Romney have nothing to complain about. Yet it's all you two do. Neither one of you is going hungry. Obviously. Neither one of you has to worry about their bank account. Neither one of you work.
Christie takes a helicopter to his son's baseball game and then leaves in the 5th inning to meet with wealthy Iowa fundraisers. A freakin' helicopter. To a baseball game. And then leaves to meet with wealthy fundraisers.
He's nothing but an ignorant loud mouthed jackass. And overweight. He can't control himself with either his words, his state's money or his eating habits. While teachers are fighting for their jobs, he takes a helicopter to a baseball game.
This is a guy who wants his kids to have a religious education. LoL.
However Christie acts in public you can be sure he acts in private. It's who he is. And it ain't pretty. He doesn't know the meaning of "religion". Watch how he treats people. Watch how all of these religious white guys treat people. With scorn and hate and disrespect.
Christie thinks he's smarter than everyone in the room. When in actuality, he's the dumbest person in the room.
Please don't assume that the big mouths have all the answers. They rarely have any answers. Hence the big mouths. Why is he so overweight? Is he sick?
If not, then not only does he abuse us, he abuses himself as well.
The GOP - party of white, rich, fake religious mean spirited jackasses who we all laugh at. Constantly.

Men like Thurgood Marshall came to be because of men like Christie and Romney and Rove and Limbaugh. They aren't interested in the problems of the working or poor classes.
Thurgood Marshall. What a great country we could be if more men followed in his footsteps to ensure social and equal justice for all.
As someone said this evening on Ed's show, the white rich men in this country are the ones who whine oh woe is me! WTH do they have to whine about?
Nothing. They've had it all for 30 years+.
I'm just sorry so many Americans buy this crap, including the media. I really am.
Christie is pure garbage, with any luck he will do a "Mama Cass" and choke on a chicken sandwich feeding his face!
Think Progress:
To gauge how much Fortune 500 companies are paying in corporate income taxes, the study looked at the 265 of them that are both profitable and disclose their state tax payments. It found that 68 reported paying no state corporate taxes in at least one year between 2008 and 2010. All together, the study found that the companies reported $1.33 trillion in domestic profits from 2008 to 2010, but paid states only about half of what they would have if they had paid at the average corporate income tax rate of all states — reducing their state taxes by some $42.7 billion.
Meanwhile, the lost tax revenue would have gone a long way toward plugging budget holes that were instead filled by cutting education, social services, and programs that helped states’ most vulnerable and needy residents.
*************************
Lost tax revenue. Again, what are the rich white guys complaining about?
They have destroyed this country for the working and middle classes.
Guess they're not done raping us all.
Trump. Gringrich. Romney.
How many times has Trump filed for bankruptcy? How many times has Newt cheated on his family? How many jobs did Romney cost hard working Americans? How many millions did Newt make off of exploiting our most vulnerable citizens?
Yet the biggest thing the GOP is working on is voter suppression. It's always the way with rich white guys. Blame everything on immigrants, legal or illegal. Or just minorities in general. And the poor. And of course, our senior citizens.
They are attacking our democracy and yet look at how they have lived their lives.
It's true. America never had a democracy until the Voting Rights legislation was passed in the 1960's. Think about it. How is it possible to deny our fellow Americans the right to vote? We did it.
And we're still doing it. Here in the 21st Century.
Meanwhile the GOP looks the other way on the lack of integrity so blatantly visible in Trump, Gringrich and Romney.
Michael Moore talks about Obama and Wall Street. You would think Moore would talk about Romney and Wall Street. Or the fact that he didn't hire union workers for his own movie.
Another in a long long line of phonies.
The only positive thing I can say about Christie is that he was shrewd enough to decline the GOP's rather desperate offer to campaign in the Republican primaries. He is not so dumb that he couldn't see that it is a lost cause. Beyond that, Christie is just a wind bag.
Pat,
A much as I appreciate your eloquent and passionate writing (whether I agree or not) I must take exception to your repeated use of "rich white guys." Have not recent events demonstrated the "rich guys" paradigm you attack might just transcend skin color?
Are we that helpless that the quality of life depends so heavily upon how "rich white guys" live? Really, it is just not that bad out here.
Mark...
The "rich white guy" tag is to enter race into the political conversation as a needed tool for 2012. Just like the president cannot stop pointing a skinny finger at "greedy" Americans who aren't paying "their fair share"...we should expect skin color to slowly be worked into the political process so that "non-white" people feel compelled to vote for anyone else who happens to also be "non-white".
It's all about finding and filling those voting blocs and they will be constructed one by one.
Hey tony, cut the conservative crap. Obama ain't perfect, but he's been doing good considering the impenetrable wall that is the GOP in the Senate and the crisis that was fixed. And he's a hell of a lot better than the idiots that the GOP is throwing against him, especially tough talking Romney and Naughty Newt. Why does the GOP want to limit regulatory oversight over Wall Street, where this whole mess started, along with the housing bubble and the deregulation over the past 40 years. I can buy the reforming of the consumer bureau, but to give those idiots in Wall Street a break after what they did to this nation is pure treason. I hope the GOP dies in 2012, and then we can get some REAL change.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GOP/TEA PARTY/CONSERVATISM EXTINCT 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AMERICA 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. If George W. Bush destroyed our country and got two terms to do it, than we should at least give Obama seeing that he's better than old 'Dubya.
Fresh...
Yeah....Mr. Obama is doing a wonderful job...thanks for the reminder. We should make him president for life because all other politicians on this planet or any other planet are all "idiots".
"Wall Street" plays by the rules and laws that our government gives them...if you want to point a finger of blame at anyone, point it at government bureaucrats who make the rules and laws without thinking ahead to the outcome those rules and laws could create.
The GOP was "dead", just like you now want...in 2009 and 2010...and Mr. Obama and his majorities spent that time NOT working to fix the economy...but rather to come up with a thousand pound health care reform plan that the president never even mentions in the daily speeches he bleets out at daily campaign rallies. Why isn't he constantly boasting about reforming health care and reminding America what a great thing he did for the health of every American ???
Maybe it's because his people have told him that his 'reform' is going to turn into a complete disaster ! There is no other reason why he does not campaign on his number one accomplishment. He brings it up so little, it must be because he wants everyone to forget he was even involved in the whole mess in the first place.
But I'm sure Mr. Obama isn't too worried...because even if his 'reform' does turn into a complete disaster, there will still be plenty of folks out there blaming the entire mess on good ol' George Bush.
I will lay 80% of this economic disaster on non existent Bush domestic policy for 8 years ( 2 years short of a decade) any day, any freakin day!! 2006, A treasury check sent to us for $1425 with instructions to go out and spend it. A Republican giving me money and told to go out and spend, any red flags yet???? Final analysis, 60% of Americans paid off credit cards with it and/or saved it, any red flags yet???? Then in late 2008, the McCain & Obama teams are summoned to the White House concerning the Auto Industry collapse, any red flags yet??? Oh by the way, there is a looming mortgage/home foreclosure that appears to be accelerating, we think one of the two administrations will have to deal with that also, any red flags yet??? Oh by the way we are now going on 8 years of conflict in Iraq & Afg. that I (Bush) insisted, no demanded we get into, by the way we have no exit strategy and uh, the war is now costing us close to 2 trillion dollars, any red flags yet??? Oh by the way I (Bush) am leaving with a national debt at about 10.5 trillion as of 2008 none of my Republican counterparts (Rep.Paul Ryan) are on FOX news screaming debt ceiling yet, but when one of the two of you have to throw govt. money at these cataclysmic clusterF— — — _s, when there seems to be no other solutions, in about 2010 they will need to campaign on something so then all of a sudden hugh debt will be an issue. Good luck, I'm going to Midland,Texas to chop wood, there's no where else to go, the entire nation hates my guts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The GOP candidates who manage to win their respective elections -- who when taking the oath of office -- will ALSO be asked to recite a new Pledge of allegience -- it reads:
" I pledge allegience to Grover Norquist, and to the corporations for which he stands. One Nation, under God, totally divisible by rich and poor, with liberty and justice for those who can afford it."
Oh yeah, and by the way, a message and warning to those bible-thumping -- holier-then-thou --hypocritical GOP/ Tp'ers -- If you REALLY believe in the bible ?
Jesus was a progressive !
And since Christmas is only a few weeks away, think along the lines of what Ebenezzer Scrooge had to endure in: "A Christmas Carol" And come your judgement day, WHAT will be your answer to God when he asks you WHY you treated your fellow man the way you did?
Do you REALLY want to risk there AREN'T any "ponderous chains" waiting for you?
Indie in E-CT,
Couldn't have said it better myself. Jesus was a carpenter and very much a liberal that believed in feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, and healing the sick. Why, then, are the religious right ok with letting over 45,000 people die each year due to lack of affordable healthcare? Their "family values" track record speaks for itself.
Well I guess the "45,000" dying every year will soon be rapidly declining once Mr. Obama's "affordable" health care overhaul kicks in.
Of course, it's pretty easy to forget that there even is a new health care law, since Mr. Obama himself rarely ever mentions it as one of his accomplishments. Maybe that's because he has finally found out that his new plan isn't quite as "affordable" as he had said it would be.
Just as he had to learn the hard way that all those "shovel ready" projects he promised to fund to "create jobs" were not, as he publicly stated, "as shovel ready as he had thought they were".
But that's OK...some of the money was needed elsewhere. Mr. Obama went on TV and told us how all these new "green jobs" were going to be created..so he was going to hand over a half-billion dollars to this wonderful company called "Solyndra"...."this is what the future looks like"...the president explained to us.
Sure are quite a few "ooopses" coming out of this White House !
Sadly, the real reason Solyndra failed was because we were to slow. China beat us and flooded the markets, they are also subsidizing their plants which caused prices to drop to less then half of there projected worth. This cause Solyndra to go under. If you really cared about this country and the outsourcing of jobs, you would be pissed that we did not support a Solyndra company 10-15 years ago. We would control that market if we had.
Now, China owns another market and we have ignorant people that believe that we shouldn't even try any more as a country. If we don't try to get into future markets, we will end up being a second rate country. That my friend is the surest way to losing our standing in the world.
As you said...we were ten years too late on companies like 'Solyndra' ...but that doesn't make it OK that the president dumped a half-billion dollars into there hands while the company was financially flopping around on the sand like a beached porpoise.
The Occupy group is still trying hard, but still lacks a cohesive message, as I have said in my other posts. What they should be pushing for are systemic changes to correct the problems that have allowed our Congress to get to this point. As I have stated in my other posts, the American Overhaul Act (www.americanoverhaulact.org) proposes a set of amendments to do just that:
- Congressional Term Limits: A maximum of two four-year terms in either House or Senate, and 12 years total in Congress.
- Federal Campaign Finance Reform: The vast majority of funds any candidate spends on a federal election campaign must come from a federal election campaign fund. These federal election campaign funds will be doled out equally to all candidates running for a position (candidates must meet certain pre-determined minimum requirements), and at least three candidates for any seat must receive funds.
- Congressional Size Limits: Membership in the House of Representatives will be permanently fixed at 300 members.
- Congressional Compensation: Congressional salaries will be fixed at four times the median household income. Additionally, health insurance will only be provided to members while they are actually serving in Congress (no lifelong healthcare) and pensions for members of Congress will be eliminated.
- Eliminate Party Favoritism: This amendment will require the elimination of all laws, rules, or regulations that favor or disfavor, either by inclusion or exclusion, any elected official or candidate for an elected office, based upon affiliation with any political party, or lack of affiliation with a political party.
- Balanced Budget Requirement: The federal budget must be balanced, meaning the total amount of federal government spending must not exceed the amount of money collected by the federal government. There will be exceptions to allow for extra spending in times of national crisis, but the excess crisis spending will be limited in amount and duration, and must be corrected by an equal amount of underspending in the years that follow.
These changes will go a long way toward fixing of the problems in the current system, thereby allowing members of our Congress to begin to focus on the needs and desires of the majority of Americans as opposed to a few wealthy organizational contributors. I urge everyone to check out the full text of the Act at www.americanoverhaulact.org. And, if you like these proposals show your support on the site and share it with your friends, family, and state and federal representatives.
Overhaul,
Some good ideas there. The only one I (somewhat) disagree with is term limits. On the one hand, it takes a long time for someone new to Washington to get up to speed on how the process works. That would be mitigated by your proposal for 4-year terms in the House, but on the other hand I really like the idea that some of these clowns are only in there for 2 years before getting the boot.
Also, what does it say about representational democracy that we have to place term limits on Congress--that the voters don't educate themselves to the degree necessary that they quit simply walking in and pulling the same old lever for the same old tired faces? (On the other hand, I know what your answer is going to be, and you're right--so don't answer!).
The rest I like--great ideas!
I think congresscritters should be paid by the people they represent in their state. Same with pensions and healthcare. If a state wants to pay healthcare for their lifetime, or provide a generaous pension after serving only 4 years, or invoke term limits, that's up to the state and their electorate. It should come from their coffers - not paid by fed tax dollars.
The president should be elected to a single 6 year term to avoid having to campaign towards the end of the first term, and to avoid the necessity of doing things in office that get you re-elected but may not be in the best interests of the country.
Jack, I totally agree on the term limits issue. I always ask those who continue to insist that we "throw all the bums out" what they think it would be like to have all freshmen senators and representatives. Sounds like chaos to me.
bleary...
I kind of like that 6 year term idea. It seems like Mr. Obama has been campaigning for four years already...he surely did not wait until "the end of the first term".
Your idea does attempt to end that garbage.
Overhaul
I like that your concerned. people are starting to realize the government is not responsive to the people.
you miss the message of the OWS movement.
None of your points address it. The message is that corporate America runs America.
We have ex CEO running the federal reserve
We have ex CEO appointed and running offices for their business benefit
Maybe you could add a point to address this.
Christie, you just lost an indy vote today.
make that two.
(well actually he lost mine a long time ago but it did sound good)
Well, of course he's going to be Romney's running mate. What a bunch of misfits, at opposite ends of the spectrum. One who looks so polished and poised, the other a big mouth twit. They think they compliment each other's personality, but in the end it will be another McCain/Palin debacle. The right wingnuts have nowhere to turn, so they just keep going in circles. President Obama will win in a landslide next year--guaranteed.
Governor Christie,
Maybe you should spend more time doing your job instead of campaigning. Since you became Governor, New Jersey has routinely been late providing data to the Federal government. On top of that, Governor Christie's staff ends up revising the numbers months later.
One more case where a DNC/Obama group has stolen the Occupy name. These are the same people who where "Code Pink" in 2008 or any other Moveon.org group. You will see them throughout the election and they will have nothing to do with Occupy and the DNC media knows it.
yeah the code pink hypocrits went away when a Democrat was electected......LOL
Why is it that so many conservatives, many of whom want mandatory English-only curriculums in our schools, can barely grasp the basics of the language themselves? You can't even spell with spell check, how sad.
You gotta go watch the video of this..........Christy made these peolple look like the idiots they are.......His "This ended the entertainment segment of tonights gathering " was classic.
Nice spelling and grammar, speaking of idiots.
Ridicule of spelling.......LMAO.....is that all you have???.........get a life......and a clue
"The OWS freaks get taste of Christy"...... is what the title should have said
What are you talking about?? First of all New Jersey is a corrupt cesspool of a State and your Fatty Arbuckle is a joke! The highest property taxes in the land and chubo See's fit to fly a state helicopter to his little monsters little league game and only paid the for the use of it after being called on it from the press!
OK.....I'll shut up and let Urkel ruin the country
Gov. Christie is rude, elitist, definitely not a role model for health and a loud mouth. What a joke! 1Hiram, don't embarrass yourself!
1Hiram, you sound like a child. But resorting to childish name calling, usually racial is just a typical Republican response when they do not have an argument.
responding to childish name calling........good luck
It's almost like he knew they were there..........His response was so well scripted!
Seems like whenever Christie gets a taste of anything he gains another ten pounds.
Christie is just another lousy governor in a long line of lousy governors in N.J. I live in Mt Laurel, NJ and between our bum governor and the republican town council there, they haven't been able to keep their hands out of my pockets. A few more huge tax increases like they did in the last couple years and I won't be able to afford to live in this state any more. Plus this guy is never in his own state tackling problems here.....like highest property taxes in the country, highest auto insurance rates in the country, etc., etc., etc.
It seems every time you turn on the news the police are constantly chasing the Occupy protesters out of parks etc. So if the people in power don't want the protesters camping out in parks etc. maybe the Occupy protesters should say "Hey no problem, we will leave" and then head for the front lawns belonging to the personal homes of the CEO's of the big corporations that keep moving jobs out of the country for the cheap labor while collecting millions in wages and bonuses! And while we are at it, maybe the Occupy protesters should start camping out on the front lawns of the republicans that seem to care only about the rich in this country! Maybe then these people will get the message.
.....or just sign a form and go straight to jail..........it' is called trespassing and destruction of private property........how about 501C tax status, a PO Box, lawful peaceful assemblies........if one has a real message .....that is how it is legally done.
Mad...
Maybe "these people" aren't getting the "message" from the OWS folks because they are near bored to death by the juvenile way the message has been delivered.
Damn, I love Christie. He would be great as the President. We need someone in there with some nuts to get something done. This mouse we have not is a joke.
Really Steve ?????
The White House's Resident in Chief is already beginning to get a taste of heckling protesters getting on his behind with much more to come and well deserved. No one likes being used as pawns for re-election while he dances to the tune of $corptocracy funded campaign fund raisers.
You're right that Christie is nuts.
OWS.....evicted in Boston.
So Christie and, thus, Romney say "hope is garbage". Well, they have a right to be anti-hope, but I'm certainly anti-change involving either of them.
Hacking the Christie Maxtrix
"Their anger is rooted in the fact that they believed this hope and change garbage."
The hope and change that the GOP can bring to America is in the form of De JaVue. Bachmann has gone back on the trail of the Religion Vs. Evolution in the classroom. Why? To invoke emotions and thoughts in the peoples mind when the earlier discussions on the same subject were brought up. Such De JaVue is meant to erase your current thoughts and replace it with the memories of emotions that you had during the earlier subject.
This is just one method of the GOP. Watch out for them.
The reason that hope and change is garbage according to Christies is because he has lived around the same crap heap his whole life and regardless where he goes everytime that he smells garbage he is reminded of where he grew up at. Christie is projecting his own emotions on hope and change because like I mentioned everywhere he goes hoping for change or never being reminded of coming from New Jersey or growing up the way he did will never escape his mind....a sense of no hope and no change being drought on by the simplest of senses....smell.
Everytime something disgusts Christie he invokes the sense of New Jersey not only in those from New Jersey but those who have merely passed through and have been left with a residual...smell...in their mind that when associated with Christie's being from New Jersey you are supposed to move as far away from what Christie has labeled as "garbage" thus coming to the garden or special political place that is garbage free which thus completes the trap laid out by Christie.
I am quite certain that the rest of America is not New Jersey and the fact that Christies can never get away from the smell of his own state is reason for his hate of hope and change.
Hope and change is not covered in the smell of garbage as Christie wants it to be. The smell of hope and change as garbage is Christies inability to get away from the side effects of having to smell garbage his whole life.
This is not a put-down on the people of New Jersey either.
dwighthuth: "Christie is projecting his own emotions on hope and change because like I mentioned everywhere he goes hoping for change or never being reminded of coming from New Jersey..."
Two Points to counter your very twisted logic......
1. N.J. has been run by the most vile crooked Democrat politicians, just one example of which is Corzine! That's why a Republican was elected in that very Democratic state. He's there to clean up the destruction and criminality exercised by their govt . officials who are in cahoots with the UNIONS.
2. Obama promised "Hope and Change" and did NOT deliver. Christie finds that Obama is a partisan politician who cares about his leftist agenda to the detriment of the rest of the country. It has nothing to do with Christie's past or where he's from. Ask the people of N.J. why they elected him ! They are sick of the Crooked Democrats.
Stop the lies and the imbecile rhetoric.
Leona, we will pray for you.
"Do I look like somebody's VP"? asked Christie. No. or Governor for that matter.
i suppose you liked Corzine better.......
So some of you are worried about President Obama's resume being short and you don't how he did in school and you aren't quite sure he was born in the good ol' US of A and to you it seems that he isn't getting any respect. Looking from my vantage point we've got a thoughtful, intelligent, compassionate capable gentleman in charge and he's leaps and bounds better than the last guy we had and judging from the field the Republicans have vying for their party's wanna be. I don't see anyone that could come close to doing nearly as much or as well as Mr. Obama. My hope is that the Democrats can win back the House and get their act together so Mr. Obama can have a chance at making the changes this country sorely needs.
but....no one want those kinds of changes obama and other ultra left democrats want. americans, if you havent noticed, are not happy with obama and liberal democrats. the prospect of more of the progressive agenda is quite frightening to americans.
you guys had it all for the first two years of obamas rule, and all you did was make things worse. next year after election day when you are asking yourselves "what went wrong ?" who are you going to blame ? i just hope things dont get so bad in america where folks are desperate, having to depend on food stamps and unemployment just to survive....but in some cases people are already doing this now.
keck-
I just loooove how you speak for all Americans. Or not.
Keck,
According to the polls, Americans are fed up with the Republicans/Tea Party people being obstructionist. Well over 60%. Democrats have their share of blame but nowhere near the opposite party. Just image if the word "compromise" was used in Congress what good things might have come of it.
It's not so much what the President didn't do, but what Congress didn't do. But conservatives always lay the blame on the president because of their desire to limit him to one term only. Meanwhile, it is we Americans that pay for their political agenda.
