Romney highlights long-lasting marriage in new TV ad

Mitt Romney highlighted his 42-year marriage and family life in a new ad released Wednesday.

The 30-second spot, which will air in both Iowa and New Hampshire, highlights the former Massachusetts governor's answer at a Nov. 9 debate, where he described himself as "a man of steadiness and constancy." His words play over a montage of Romney home videos and images of Ann Romney.

If I'm President of the United States, I will be true to my family, my faith and our country and I will never apologize for the United States of America.

Having fallen behind recently in the polls, Romney's campaign is highlighting his marriage and family background in contrast to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who has been married three times.

Bush also did have a long marriage but left with a crashed economy and bailout and 1.8m less jobs with 600,000 being lost every month (Jan 2009, in contrast the economy added 120,000 jobs last month). Clinton had his personal foibles but left with a strong economy and decreasing deficits and 23 million jobs later. The biggest problem is Romney will saw or do anything that he believes will get him votes and nobody really knows what his true ideology is, if any!

Gingrich at least speaker did balance the budget and turn our economy into surplus. And yes Congress controls spending. Unlike the flip flopper that actually practiced liberal policies he at least has the scars and lived some of the ideals folks are all paying lip service to on the campaign trail right now.

This post hasn't seemed to generate a lot of excitement. I wonder if it says anything about the interest in Mittens?

The male Republican candidates seem to have Stepford Wives as their partners--women who are used to wealth and an exalted position in society; they hang in the background, staring vacantly and serving tea. Give me Michelle Obama any day--there's a real live, breathing woman who possesses integrity and a mind of her own, not to mention experience in the "real" world!

Good point Jack. Michelle and the president both are WAY better than any GOP/TP candidate.

The First Lady is a factor along with the eventual VP pick. The only one worse than Calista is Marcus Bachmann, and I'd prefer Ann or even Anita over Calista. Calista makes me think of Cruella Deville with a Jane Jetson hair style.

Republicans who served during Gingrich's speakership are the first to remind voters how his bad mistakes far outweighed any good he might claim -- This douche-bag is a train wreck waiting to happen.

But Romney likewise lacks the correct temperament or record or consistency and convictions to be POTUS. What CEO do you know that can be trusted to do the right thing for the general good versus profit and personal gain? His "outsider" claims are not true, nor is his so-called business experience of any advantage.

Americans like to elect the opposite of the previous President. Considering President Obama is happily married, I don't think this is Romney's strongest argument for nominating him over Gingrich. That and the whole mandate for health insurance thing.

Amy, you remind me of the Steely Dan tune, "Pretzel Logic".

You will laughably twist, contort and turn around any fact to the benefit of your hero Obama.

So you are saying the fact Romney has a successful marriage is a problem, because Obama has a successful marriage?

And the American people prefer "the opposite"?

Given that Mitt claims not to have a political career even though he has been running for office since the 90s, I'm guessing his marital fidelity has far more to do with the fact that he is no good at cheating on his wife than his being, "A man of steadiness and constancy."

In other words, chances are he has been shot down by women at least as often as he has been shot down by voters.

Even the Romulians have families, and their life on Romulius is just full of "flip-flopping" moments. Now "Romulian Romney has no concept of what truely earning a paycheck means, and he has no understanding of what it means to be poor. "Romulian Romney" has no clue of how difficult it is to be truely disabled, and have no chance of getting a good paying job. It is time to wave good bye to "Romulian Romney," and "Nutty Newt."

Relevant issues no longer matter to the GOP, it seems. If all Romney has in his bag of tricks is that he is married, then he has lost the election already.
