Hey Feisty- You mention hard work on the re-election campaign. Remember last year when Schultz and Olberman and them were facilitating those free clinics? Somehow, money was raised and things were coordinated to make it all happen.

Why, I wonder, can't the same thing be done for the next 11 months to assist older folks and others get themselves the (soon-to-be) required ID, and get them registered to vote? It would be a huge undertaking, but they somehow managed to get doctors and nurses together with poor and uninsured people. AND it did not involve tax dollars, either.

This is the note he was trying to hit when he gave the "Jobs Bill" speech. I wish he had said this at that time. It would have been difficult for conservatives to turn down the middle class on that bill. His words do come in time to let the republicans know that we will not tolerate conservatives letting our tax break fall by the wayside. This message may well light the way to a complete rout of conservatives in November.

This list is only in Republican imaginations. They've never balanced a budget, they've wiped them out. Bush's "balanced budget" still has a burn-rate of of $500Billion a year and will be with us for decades. smaller less intrusive government must be defined as a larger government that just does less by being dysfunctional and constantly underfunded. Debt reduction is impossible with the $500Billion deficit added to another $500Billion in lost annual revenues due to the economy... you can't cut your way to debt reduction. Yes, we can talk entitlement reform after we get financial reform and equity in regulation and taxation, but to tell you the truth, GOP reform usually means leaving us hung out to dry (Ryan's Medicare plan).

Obama is wise to speak of TR. He was the last president to face the robber barons, and we have a new crop a century later. Obama talks about the plight of the middle class yet he has done more to destroy it with his policy failures and leadership failures than any republican. His failure to take action against China for their currency manipulation that ha artificially depressed the value of the yuan so that Chinese goods are cheaper in export markets has helped to destroy our economy. He has allowed this unfair trade practice on the part of the Chinese to continue to destroy what is left of manufacturing in the US, which is the heart of a middle class economy. Obama's push for wider free trade agreements with Asian nations has also contributed to the flight of manufacturing from the US. Obama does not have a clue what eh is doing and I sincerely hope that we are rid of him come January 2013. I am not thrilled with the choices the republicans have put forward, but we simply can not afford another four years of Obama, particularly an Obama who does not have to worry about reelection.

Did you ever wonder why we have a problem with health care. It's because a 2ml tube of antibiotics cost $110 to pay for the greed of the CEOs of pharmaceutical companies. It's not the doctors who are contributing to jobs and making what they deserve after going through everything they endured going to medical school and through residency. It's not the supervisors who lead day-to-day operations in companies. It's the greedy 1% who have bought politicians. It's GE who brought in $600 billion plus in revenue last year and got a $3.3 billion tax return. President Obama is about leveling the playing field, plain and simple and till some of you realize all that, PLEASE don't vote in the country I helped to defend for 21 years. Congress is nothing but a bunch of corrupt people as proven by their using insider information to make moves in the stock market. They are the ones who allow people and corporations to hide money in off shore accounts to keep it from being taxed. They are the ones that speak on condition of "anonymity" to the press so they can get special treatment. All this isn't about Republican and Democrat right now; it's about the survival of our nation. It's about 11 million people being out of work, it's about jobs being outsourced to other nations, and it's about trade agreements that allow our jobs to go to other countries and the goods brought here to be sold. Our nation is messed up and as I seen in a previous post, if the Republican Party could come up with a candidate who has a plan and is looking out for the interests of the nation as a whole, I'm open to listen to him/her. Obama has no crediblility in supporting Main Street. But, he loves Wall Street. As a Senator, he supported TARP that bailed out the too big to fail banks. As POTUS, he signed the stimulus into law and bailed out GM among others. Their Chinese plants can't keep up with demand. To support growing the green jobs that were promised on the campaign trail, he loaned $500 million to Solyndra and it's since gone belly up. Never mind that a donor was heading up the company. Another $500 million for green jobs went to Fisker Electric. They built an electric car factory in Poland with that. Remember, too, that it was Obama and a lame duck Democratic Congress that extended the loathed Bush tax cuts.

I can't say that the Republicans have done much better but to state that Obama and the Democrats are any different is pure folly.

I frankly don't know what "class" I'm in these days, but I do know one thing, my family is far worse off than we were 3 years ago (and I mean substantially) and we don't see any light in the future. Not a party or political statement, but a blunt statement of the truth from a person based on his situation. The only change my household has seen in recent years is a drastic one to the negative. We need something different. We need actions not words and we need it now. We can all sit in these rooms and BS our heads off, but the bottom line is (whatever side you are on), what's there is not working. If you believe a "riveting" (opinion) speech will change things, you are misguided. Change will happen when folks that have worked hard for 30+ years to build a future for their families and a retirement and watch the majority of it dwindle away over a 36 month time frame to simply augment basic living expenses get some of it back. It's not going to happen. Hence, no change in the immediate future.

I am absolutely baffled here. We were told that republicans wouldn't raise taxes, per the pledge to Norquest. Now, they did argue that letting tax cuts expire is the same as raising taxes.

All of a sudden, when the middle class tax cuts are set to expire, they are more than willing to "raise taxes" on them.

Even more baffling to me here, we actually have people no where near the 1% in income wanting to re-elect the same party that drug this country to Hades while taking the rest of the global market with it.

The process is that the President proposes a budget early in the year. That budget was voted down 97-0 in the Senate. Obama said he'd come up with a new one, but instead just gave a speech in April that talked about the budget in broad terms, but with no specifics. The CBO, when asked what they thought said "We can't score a speech".

The House GOP passed a budget and sent it to the Senate. Harry Reid promptly tabled it and did nothing to either amend that budget, or come up with his own. Harry hasn't had a budget pass in his chamber in over a 1000 days. If Harry had bothered to come up with a budget, and have it pass the Senate, it would have went to a conference committee of House and Senate members and the differences would have been worked out with a final bill going to Obama. That didn't happen.

Obama has shown no leadership on the budget, even though he committed to halving the deficit during his first term. Harry Reid has passed no budgets in 3 years. The GOP House passed their budget, so please explain why the Democrats can't come up with one of their own.

The democrats just voted 51-49 to extend and further cut the payroll taxes and pay for it with very slightly more taxes on the top 0.05%. As to where would I cut question in 16.5, I'd start with 50% from Defense. This will require reworking some international agreements so we can pull troops out of Germany, S. Korea, Japan and some other places - but I'd only keep those troops there if those countries cover our costs.

Also, where did you get your numbers? The numbers I see for Defense are around $700 Billion.

Going forward, my understanding is paying for entitlements becomes extremely difficult without significant tax increases. For example, the last budget I heard from Obama called for about a $7 Trillion deficit in medicare/medicaid over the next 10 years - and increasing after 10 years. This deficit level will mandate changes (tax increases for everyone, reducing benefits, or some combination thereof).

To support growing the green jobs that were promised on the campaign trail, he loaned $500 million to Solyndra and it's since gone belly up. Never mind that a donor was heading up the company. Another $500 million for green jobs went to Fisker Electric. They built an electric car factory in Poland with that. Remember, too, that it was Obama and a lame duck Democratic Congress that extended the loathed Bush tax cuts.

I can't say that the Republicans have done much better to their corporate puppet masters but to state that Obama and the Democrats are any different is pure folly.

He now is using the payroll tax cuts that are due to expire politically to be able to use it in his campaign for re-election, but he wants it passed without a way to make up the Tax loss and it will cause Social Security to go bankrupt if it is passed without cutting something else to pay for the tax loss. This President is the worst we have ever had and he has beaten Jimmy Carter who held the title of worst President. All of his decisions in office have been political maneuvers and he refuses to make decisions that might hurt him politically and refuses to take responsibility for any decision, hence the committees and czars this administration appointed that have done nothing but cost us all jobs and money.

With the amount of gridlock, obstruction, and amazing abuse of the filibuster , it's a wonder that Washington has worked at all the past 2 years, dysfunction included. Obama has been doing his best to try to help things get better, and has offered to compromise. I haven't forgotten about the debt debate fiasco, where Obama came up with the only plan ($4 trillion in cuts, $1 trillion in tax revenues on upper class) that was going to keep our credit rating with S&P (although they suck too) the same. Republicans picked apart the plan to minutia over the tax revenues and what cuts and blah blah until we had a craptastic deal. When that plan was then blasted and scrutinized the world over, suddenly "I got 98%" John Boehner and the GOP want to say it was Obama's fault? Please don't reward the GOP for this type of the behavior this upcoming election season; this is just one of many examples of how they intend to hold the country hostage for votes.

I despise members of both parties, they are all in cahoots. As to the republicans, they don't have a clue, unlike the democrats who have a very definite agenda, namely, bancrupting the country to pander for special interest votes. The reality is our country, and all the small, medium and large corporate entities are now in a GLOBAL ECONOMY and we are competing against less expensive labor costs in China and Indonesia. The auto industry is a prime example of unchecked union greed and power, pushing for higher pay, more and more benefits to the point the import market has now overshadowed U.S. production in many ways.

It's all about FREE MARKET competition in a global economy and the loss of jobs can be at least partially blamed on the demands of those who demanded more and more and more. Even within our own country, most of the new vehicle manufacturing plants in recent years have been built in the right-to-work states where unions are less likely to wreak havoc.

Button, I agree. In just 3 years my life style has drastically reduced. I used to live pretty well, now I have to live on a budget and watch what I am spending. For the first time in my life I am in tier 5 electricity. Has never happened before, have not increased my electricity, if any, I am using less and less. For crying out loud, I have only one little light and one small tv on per night and my electricity bill was $240 for the 29 day billing cycle.

Just imagine where we would be if the mid-term elections did not go the way they did? Imagine, if Obama and Pelosi and Reid was allowed to run ruff-shod in their second half as they did in his first half? hope and change? Yes, he brought about plenty of hope and change.

But he has to be removed so we can get some sensibility back into the powerful cabinet positions.

Prior to 2005 when the democrats took control of congress the Republicans had a record 55 months of economic growth. Since the democrats took over congress it has been nothing but down hill and it's gained speed since Obama moved into the White House.

Oddly liberals will not acknowledge where the Mortgage Meltdown began. It was set in motion in 1994 with the CRA Lawsuit against Citi Bank. The CRA Lawsuit forced banks into making home loans to unqualified borrowers. Bill Clinton added to the mess by changing the rules at Fannie and Freddie. He made it to where they had to buy these toxic loans from the banks. Lax regulations did not cause the mortgage Meltdown a lawsuit caused it. Fannie and Freddie not wanting to be stuck with these loans 'bundled' them and sold them to AIG and other investors.

You see it wasn't greedy bankers that caused this mess it was some do gooder that upset tried and true business practices.
