Gingrich tangles with Pelosi over ethics info

NEW YORK -- Newt Gingrich shot back at House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi today, after Pelosi threatened to reveal details of the ethics investigation into the former House Speaker almost 13 years ago.

“I want to thank Speaker Pelosi for what I regard as an early Christmas gift,” Gingrich said during a press conference at Manhattan’s Union League Club Monday afternoon.

“If she’s saying that she’s going to use material that she developed while she was on the ethics committee,” Gingrich added, “that is a fundamental violation of the rules of the House, and I would hope that members would immediately file charges against her the second she does it.”

The remark brought a quick response over Twitter from Nancy Pelosi’s staff.

“[Pelosi] was clearly referring to the extensive amount of information that is in the public record,” wrote her spokesman, Drew Hammill.

The back-and-forth began earlier today when the left-leaning website Talking Points Memo published an interview with Pelosi, in which she said, “One of these days we’ll have a conversation about Newt Gingrich.”

The blog post was headlined, “Democrats Gleeful At Prospect of Running Against Gingrich.”

“I know a lot about him,” Pelosi told TPM.  “I served on the investigative committee that investigated him, four of us locked in a room in an undisclosed location for a year. A thousand pages of his stuff.”

The ethics investigation resulted in sanctions against Gingrich, and a fine.

Gingrich resigned as Speaker of the House in 1999. Pelosi later served as House Speaker, from 2007 until January, 2011.

The two appeared in a 2008 video encouraging action on global warming –- a move that has invited attacks from Gingrich’s opponents in the GOP field.

“We don’t always see eye-to-eye, do we Newt?” Pelosi said in the video.

“No,” Gingrich replied.

Thanks, Nancy Pelosi. You will do a great service to the smart electorates to reveal details of the ethics investigation into the former House Speaker Newt almost 13 years ago.

It's a public record that we the people ought to know. Coming from you, as the Minority Leader bear more credibility. I admire you being truthful.

Locked in a room with Pelosi for a year composing an investigation! I would of slit my wrists seeing that face for a year. Ugh! From what I know about investigations, you don't do it behind closed doors, unless you have something to hide. She did say this info. was on "public record". Well! That's that. If John Doe citizen wants to read her "stuff", he or she can do so. Now, she needs to be investigated. Tit for tat.

Is there anyone who has been involved in politics, including politicians and their backers or that have been elected to public office or running for public office that has been or would be able to pass any sort of ethical scrutiny/test or could be trusted to do the " Right or Honest " thing or agree to make a decision that would be of benefit to everyone, especially since the " Lobbying/Lobbyist, Special Interest era of politics and government ?

My own personal opinion would be " Absolutely, Unequivocally NO "

We, those of us who consider ourselves as ordinary citizens, need to realize that there is and has been a " Corrupting, Paid " influence entrenched in government and government/congressional decision making for as long as there has been a government .

I love it. Newt doesn't bother denying that he is among the most corrupt politicians ever. Just threatens what will happen if his corruption is more clearly revealed. Classic Newt. Our country is screwed.

I'm sure, Newtie, that you are thinking twice about defending anything you did ethically just to clarify your innocence.Your whining about what Pelosi knows and threatens to say has riled you up worse than Dick Cheeeney and the secret Energy deal.

If you really think your past is off limits, then that should go for all candidates and incumbents. But you see,Newtie, you are in the public eye, just like Bill Clinton was, when you had a woody for him.Front runners have to take the heat, about their past as well as what their goals are for the future of our country.

If you don't want to explain what is so private, that you got reprimanded and caused you to resign, what makes you so sure we want another coverup if you are elected?

We are waiting for your explanation from God's point of view. You're in the oven now.How do you like it? Roasted, broiled or fried?

Hopefully you will deflect the answer during your next debate so it will continue to haunt you throughout the campaign.

Its funny how perception is all perspective. The conservatives actually believe in their small but still beating hearts that Newt never did anything wrong. Its weird. And they think that he tells them he is smart so he must be. He is a dumb ass. He can't remember what his positions are from day to day so he constantly contradicts himself. But he does it in such a convoluted fashion that people can't recognize it. I truly have no idea what he stands for other than NEWT. He has no convictions, he has no principles, he has no scruples, and he has no ideas. He is like Barney Frank so aptly labled him, the Wizard of Oz. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

So what does that say about both of them? Neither want taxes raised on 'themselves.' So why in the world would anyone vote for people who don't represent the lifestyle of 90% of the country? Why would somebody vote for a Trust Fund Baby for president? Huntsman/Paul would be a reasonable run but they just don't have those PAC bucks and backing from the 1%. Why? Because they aren't rubbing elbows with the puppetmasters. These two get NO representation from MSM, and that's across the board. So Repods, who's your daddy that you can't even get who YOU, the 90% want for a candidate? Because these two aren't warmongers, it's that simple. The Newt has a price, they will meet it and he will do as he's told.

I stand and salute you Gunny262, those of us who fought for the rights of Democracy and then to have the "Pelosis" in Washington use those rights for their own purpose and gain. I'm sick of what we have for a president and what we have to select from. Anyone could beat Obama but that "anyone" isn't what America needs. If people would get their heads out of their arses and quite voting party, race, class or anything BUT what is best for America we could turn this around. Start by keeping the unions out of Washington, they are obsolete anyway.

Ron Paul can't win the nomination - they conservative right won't allow it. Huntsman is too smart, Perry, Cain and Bachmann are to dumb. Santorum is too boring. Gingrich know he can't win because of all his baggages so he is taking advantage of the GOP nomination process to sell some books and fatten his speaking fees. So Mitt wins by default. Bob,

please read and learn before posting. You see, tedcrawford's post is actually rather correct, because if you ever chose to actually look into this...You would find that Bill Clinton was elected for his second term by a LARGER percentage of women than he recieved when he ran for his first term. So, AFTER Bill Clinton used the most powerful office in the world to partake in cigar shoving and dress staining with an impressionable young intern, AFTER HE LIED about it to millions of Americans on national TV, AFTER he then tried to debate on what the meaning of "is" is...AFTER he embarrassed and humiliated his wife in front of the world, MORE WOMEN voted for him. LOL!!! So, using deductive logic, it must not have effected women that much, afterall, a larger portion of women voted for him AFTER his scandal than before. Study up, parrot.

You do not take into account the population or voter roles, the political climate during both elections, but "suppose" you are right. You have no educatiuon.

Newt did the same thing with his recent answer to children from lower income. Stop belittling groups and you may find some justice in your life.

Again, notice how you never actually debate ANY of the points I brought up, from earlier posts on the black panthers to the recent post in which I used factual unarguable statements regarding Bill Clinton and the percentage of women voters that re-elected him. See Bob, THAT is a fact. A FACT that is not argued by dems or repubs, because it is a hardcore quantitative statistical FACT. MORE women voted for Clinton AFTER the Lewinsky scandal. FACT. That is not spin, as you call it, simply trying to deflect from the issue because you don't know what you are talking about. And then you act crazy and irrational by accusing me of being chauvinistic, because I used a statistic that involved female voters in my argument??? You Bob, are devoid of the ability to comprehend, which is typical of most dems. It is YOU who obviously has no education, and it is said. It makes me wonder what all of my taxdollars funding public education all these years really went to. So, being uninformed, you lash out and call names and blame Fox news. Don't you see? You are just a mouthpiece for something you don't even understand?

Roanoke1, Head Parrot, read it and weep, your facts stink, and you know it. This refutes your comment you have posted numerous times, and it has been refuted many times. Evidently you can't handle the truth.

              How long did the democrats
              hold a supermajority?

I was under the impression it
was for about 6 months. From when Franken was sworn in until Brown was sworn in.
If anyone'd care to enlighten me.

              Additional
              Details

              http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Franken

              In 2008, Franken
narrowly defeated incumbent Republican Senator Norm Coleman, by 312 votes, after
a mandatory statewide manual recount. Coleman contested the outcome in court,[2]
but the Minnesota Supreme Court unanimously upheld Franken's victory on June 30,
2009.[3] Franken was sworn in to the Senate on July 7, 2009.[4][5]

              http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Brown

              Brown was sworn
in to office on February 4, 2010, by Vice President Joe Biden, in his capacity
as President of the Senate, on the floor of the Senate.[53] As a Class I
Senator, his term will last until January 3, 2013.

              http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supermajori…

But you will continue fabricating and falsely accusing, that is your nature, and the nature of your political view.

Bob, the driveling liberal bleeding heart Obama-zombie,

Yeah, again, you skirt the issue by deflecting. Name me ONE republican that voted FOR Obamacare???? You cannot, because no one did. This is how Obamacare was passed, by STRICT party-lines WITHOUT needing any support from the opposition party. LOL!!!! The issue is not the mere length of time that Democrats had a supermajority, it is the damage they were able to do while they had this supermajority. So, continue to spin and play semantics. My point was, that they had plenty of time to pass Obamacare, but THEY NEVER ONCE implemented a budget. Supermajority or not, until the 2010 midterms, Democrats CONTROLLED THE HOUSE, THE SENATE, AND THE PRESIDENCY. AND THEY NEVER PASSED A BUDGET. Please stop playing sematics and silly games, you are waaaay too transparent. Your party is failing, as shown by Obama's horrible approval ratings, the lowest of any incumbent EVER that hopes to be re-elected. Your pseudo-intellectualism is showing, sorry...

Bob, the ignorant mindless Obama-zombie no-nothing,

From wikipedia (I guess you will just claim that Fox and Wiki are now in cahoots, and made this entire thing up, right??? WOW, Bob, stop drinking that Kool-Aid, its affecting your brain):

"The conduct for which members of the New Black Panther Party were accused of voter intimidation took place on Election Day in November 2008, at a polling station in a predominantly African-American, Democratic voting district of Philadelphia.[1] Two members of the New Black Panther party, Minister King Samir Shabazz, and Jerry Jackson, stood in front of the entrance to the polling station in uniforms that have been described as military or paramilitary.[2][3][4] Minister King Shabazz carried a billy club, and is reported to have pointed it at voters while both men shouted racial slurs,[5] including phrases such as "white devil" and "you're about to be ruled by the black man, cracker."[6] The incident drew the attention of police, who around 10:00 am, sent King Samir away in part because of his billy club. Jackson was allowed to stay, in part because he was a certified poll watcher.[7] Stephen Morse, a journalist and videographer, who upon arriving at the scene, pulled out a video camera and focused on Samir Shabazz. Morse turned over the video of the incident to ElectionJournal.org.[8] The incident gained national attention after being uploaded to YouTube.[2]

No complaints were filed by voters about the incident, although poll watchers witnessed some voters approach the polls and then turn away, apparently in response to the New Black Panther Party members.[9]

The Department of Justice became aware of the incident on Election Day and started an inquiry. Under the Bush administration, a criminal investigation into the incident was started, but later dropped.[10][11] Instead, in January 2009, less than two weeks before the Bush administration left office, the civil rights division of the Department of Justice filed a civil suit under the voting rights act against four defendants, namely, Minister King Samir Shabazz, Jerry Jackson, NBPP chairman Malik Zulu Shabazz, and the NBPP itself. The lawsuit accused them of using uniforms, racial insults and a weapon to intimidate voters and those who were there to assist them.[2] Four career attorneys, Spencer Fisher, Christian Adams, Robert Popper and Christopher Coates signed the memo that supported the case against the four defendants.[12][10] The case remained open when the Obama administration took office a few weeks later."

Bob, do you see how you are nothing but a liar??? You see you are just a liberal parrot? No mention of Fox anywhere. Notice how the videographer sent this to Electionjournal.org, NOT FOX, you idiot.

Either way, its nice to see that you are OK with two white KKK members standing in front of a voter polling station, in FULL GARB, carrying weapons, and using racial slurs against blacks while they are attempting to VOTE. YOU ARE A FAILURE BOB, and YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY A RACIST. You represent what is wrong with this country. Good stuff Bob, carry on...

Here is the guy that was wearing a military uniform standing outside a voter polling booth wielding a billy club: " We didn’t come out here to play. There is too much serious business going on in your black community to be sliding through south street with white, dirty cracker whores on your arms. What’s a matter with you black man, you got a doomsday with a white woman on your arm. We keep begging white people for freedom. No wonder we’re not free. Your enemy can not make you free fool. Yes I did read the entire article. All the way to the very end, finishing with the last sentence in which the head of the Black Panther Party refers to Fox News as "Fox Jews." LOL!!! So, yep, he sounds like the typical racist liberal to me, which explains your racism as well, I guess. LOL!!

You believe that a man that is an admitted racist who has espoused the killing of white babies and is a member of a solidified anti-white movement should be standing and pacing outside of a voter polling station with a billy-club using racial slurs??? LOL!!! Yep, sounds like the typical racist liberal to me...

                              Please Bob, try harder...

So why do you use bits and pieces of info, about something that you know nothing about, to prove your right?

Parrot, this site has a informative statement and actual reports by the civil rights commission, it is apparent to me after reading the testimony, that this case was blown way out of proportion, at least in the eyes of the civil rights commission, and the proper action was taken by authority's from the cops' to the Justice Department. If the Parrot has a problem with that, the parrot should take their case on personally with the proper authority's. http://mediamatters.org/research/201007070020

"You believe that a man that is an admitted racist who has espoused the killing of white babies and is a member of a solidified anti-white movement should be standing and pacing outside of a voter polling station with a billy-club using racial slurs??? Thats right Bob, I saw all that I needed to on the video. I saw all that I needed to when I saw King Samir advocating the killing of white babies, and then hes standing in front of a voter station with a billy-club, and voters actually walk away. Nice try on deflecting from the issue to defend your racism... Your right, I did say it, because it's true. Later bigot. LOL!

Parrot, only likes sunflower seeds. Of course you would not want to comment on the actual testimony before the civil rights commision, the one that is non- partisan, and noted in the wikipedia article that you brought up.

By all means, let us review the dozens of trumped-up charges that were thrown at the Speaker, and by whom. And the fact that only one paperwork violation stuck. And what became of the Democratic activists who tailed his car to eavesdrop on his cell phone calls - as I recall someone went to jail over that. If Ms. Pelosi wants to talk about Congressional ethics, then let's do so, especially the practices that prevailed during the forty years that the Democrats ran Congress before the Contract with America, such as routinely exempting itself from the laws it inflicted on the public.

True! If memory serves I think it was 42 of 43 charges were found without merrit and the last was even reduced!

He should compare budgets with her! He had four that were balanced she didn't even have one for the last two years!

Seems to me he admitted lying to the ethics commitee, and was found guilty on one count. So he was like bad news to the Republicans, and was the first Speaker of the House to ever step down. Nice spin there, parrot.

He would have not had to step down, if he did not lie to the ethics commitee.

She is just the next in line that Obama wants to use to cause issues with anyone who will beat him (that is anyone). They got rid of the one who might take black votes away from "BO" and now the one with the inside info and intelligence to embarras "BO" in a debate. Perry did himself in so Mit Romney is next with an underhanded attack on him regarding his religion. No one wants to talk about "BO" in NY while in his 20s and what he was doing. I have mentioned that a couple of times but the "BO" lovers avoid that like a bad smell on the sole of their shoe as they try and walk across the lily white carpet of their democratic party.

The look on her face was the same that Grace had on her face when she farted on DWTS when asked about inside trader information and if she and her husband had been taking advantage of the information prior to its release. Pelosi needs to go home to a retirement center and Reid needs to go home to the whore houses his mother cleaned at. In fact all the poloticians in Washington need to go home and retire or get a job (good luck with that one since they ruined it for everyone else). "The credit card fees bill, by then-House Judiciary Committee chairman John Conyers, D-Mich., passed his committee on Oct. 3, 2008, but did not reach the full House. Pelosi was speaker at the time and controlled which legislation came to the floor."

Pelosi is a fine one to be discussing ethics. She's the political equivelant to a crack whore.

The findings ARE in the public record! The deliberation records of that, or any other, ethics committee are not for public consumption by law!
